The TIPM has failed. It causes the fuel pump to randomly engage and drain the battery. It drained so low the key fob would not work and I needed a locksmith to get inside the vehicle to pop the hood. Our van has been at Lynwood Dodge since February 2022. it took over a month to diagnose and now they can not get the part. The estimate they have given me is around $2,300. That does not count two tows, a locksmith and replacing the fuel pump and a fuel related module around a month prior. The inspection was by the Dodge dealership. To my knowledge no manufacturer representative has checked this vehicle.

The contact stated that the customer informed him that there were issues starting the vehicle in which on some occasions the vehicle would not start without warning. The contact diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump integrated into the TIPM and the contacts on the fuel pump are not making good contact. As a result, the fuel pump fails intermittently, and the engine could stall. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V115000 (electrical system) as the same TIPM system installed in the customer's vehicle however the vehicle information was not a part of this recall. The contact stated that he contacted the manufacturer and was advised that the vehicle was not in any recalls. The failure mileage was 107,920.
After many tries, the van wouldn't start. Finally started. Brought it to the mechanic. They said the pressure in the fuel pump would drop 15-20 psi and then raise back to spec. They replaced the fuel pump. Van still wouldn't start. Mechanic tested and found the fuel pump was not getting power from the TIPM control module, due to a faulty fuel pump relay. Mechanic said Dodge had issued an external fuel pump relay part due to the issue occurring in many vehicles, however a safety recall had not been issued. Mechanic installed the part and the van starts now. Seems like the fuel pump issue was known by Dodge and should be covered in a safety recall as the TIPM control module used is faulty. Instead of a safety recall, Dodge issued an external relay part to fix the faulty part, but then didn't cover the cost of it for its customers.

The contact self-diagnosed the vehicle with a faulty fuel pump relay for the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
VEHICLE WOULD START AND RUN THEN COUPLE MINUTES LATER IT WOULD JUST CRANK AND CRANK WITH A NO START. THE AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WILL, WITH A LONG CRANK, IT WILL START.. ONCE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, IT RUNS GOOD UNTIL YOU SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THEN IT JUST CRANKS AND CRANKS. SOMETIME BATTERY WOULD DIE FROM ALL THE CRANKING.. LET IT SET THEN CRANK AND IT STARTS AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT WON'T START FOR A DAY OR TWO. ALL TIME IT IS PARKED.
I WAS DRIVING FINE WITH THE KIDS AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN I FEEL LIKE MY VAN WANTS TO SHUT DOWN ON ME WHILE DRIVING. WENT TO THE PARK ONE DAY AND WHEN CAME BACK WITH THE KIDS THE CAR WOULD NOT START... I FINALLY( AFTER SEVERAL TRIES) GET IT TO START AND GOT HOME SAFE, THANKFULLY. THE NEXT DAY I GO GROCERY SHOPPING AND CAME BACK, THE VAN WOULD NOT START! NOW, I'M FRUSTRATED WITH THE KIDS AND GROCERIES OUT IN THE HOT WEATHER. FINALLY GET IT TO START AND DROVE HOME HOPING TO GET THERE SAFE. FRUSTRATED THINKING CANNOT AFFORD A MECHANIC AT THIS TIME AS I RECENTLY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND THAT WASN'T CHEAP. GOT HOME! AND THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD NOT START CALLED ASSISTANCE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG AND EXPLAINED THAT IT WASN'T THE BATTERY NOR THE ALTERNATOR, THERE'S NO CODE AND THAT IT WAS POSSIBLY THE TIPM AND THAT WAS GOING TO BE ABOUT A $1,200 IF NOT MORE TO REPLACE. EXPLAINED THAT GRAND CHEROKEE AND OTHER DODGE CAR HAD RECALLED IT BUT NOT THE DODGE GRAN CARAVAN

THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED THE COST OF $1273 FOR THE PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TROUBLE STARTING VAN. HAVE A $1200 TIPM ON ORDER. STRONGLY FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AS VAN COULD STALL WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A CRASH
I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE DODGE VEHICLES BUT MY VIN WAS NOT AMONG THE LIST. WHAT STEPS SHOULD I TAKE TO FIX THE PROBLEM?
I RECENTLY HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BATTERY DRAINAGE TO THE POINT OF NEEDING 2 BATTERY REPLACEMENTS. I THEN REALIZED THAT AFTER I TURN OFF MY VEHICLE THE FUEL PUMP IS STILL ON. I REPLACED THE FUSE AND RELAY ONLY TO STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. THIS VEHICLE STALLED ON MY THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVING TO EITHER WORK OR ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I HAVE RAN OUT OF OPTION TO FIX IT. DODGE NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE AND FIX IT.

THE FAILURE WOULD DRAIN THE BATTERY AS THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL WHEN DRIVING AT 60-65 MPH WITHOUT WARNING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUBURBAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP OF ANN ARBOR ( 3900 JACKSON RD, ANN ARBOR, MI 48103) WHOM ADVISED NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TAMARA RECALL CAR WAS WORKING FINE ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WOULDN'T CRANK JUST MAKING CONSTANT CLICKING NOISE THE NOISE STOP WHEN I TURN THE KEY BACK SO I WENT TO GET IT CHECKED THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP SO I CHECKED ON YOUTUBE FOR THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF THE PROBLEM THE CLICKING NOISE SO COMES TO FIND OUT THE MAN ON YOUTUBE SET THAT A LOT OF GOOD CARS THE CARAVANS ACT LIKE THAT BUT PEOPLE ALWAYS THINK IT'S THE FUEL PUMP BUT IT DON'T BE THE FUEL PUMP IT IS THE RELAY AND IT SHOWED ME HOW TO DO A RELAY BYPASS WITH A WIRE SOON AS I PERFORM THE RELAY BYPASS MY CAR CRANK RIGHT UP BUT I KNOW THAT'S NOT GOING TO LAST AND TO ME THAT IS AN EXPENSIVE PART TO TRY TO FIX ON MY OWN

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE RELAY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO START AND WOULD HESITATE IN THE PROCESS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.

THE FUEL PUMP STAYS ON AFTER THE VAN IS TURNED OFF AND THE KEYS ARE REMOVED, SOMETIMES IT WILL KICK OFF IF YOU REINSERT THE KEYS AND TURN IT OFF OTHER TIMES WE HAVE TO PULL THE FUSE TO MAKE IT KICK OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OTHER THAN TODAY. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND OUT IT'S A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE IN DODGE CARAVAN AND ALSO THE TOWN AND COUNTRY.

WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW SPEED THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING AND COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED, UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE LANE OR OFF TO THE SHOULDER. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF CYCLING THE KEY FOB OFF AND ON THE VAN STARTED AGAIN. IT IS FORTUNATE THAT THIS OCCURRED IN A VERY RURAL AREA WITH NO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A 2012 GRAND CARAVAN WITH APPROX. 90K MILES. MY HUSBAND RESEARCHED SIMILAR FAILURES OTHER DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THE GRAND CARAVAN, HE BELIEVES IT IS LIKELY A FAILING FUEL PUMP RELAY. HE READ THAT MANY OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES HAVING THE SAME RELAY SYSTEM HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT APPARENTLY NOT THE GRAND CARAVAN AS WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL.
THE VEHICLE DIDN'T START IN THE MORNING WHEN SWITCH ON I HAVE TO CALL TO THE BODY SHOP AND THEY FOUND OUT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP THEY HAD TO CHANGE IT. I THING THAT FOR A CAR THAT IS ONLY 5 YEARS AND 71963 MILES IT IS TO SOON TO HAVE THAT KIND OF PROBLEMS .THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A DRIVEWAY I DO HAVE A REPAIR INVOICE
