MY 2007 DODGE NITRO HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES, SURGING ETC. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW, STOPPED AT A SLIGHT INCLINE WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE IT ROLLS BACKWARDS. DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THIS IS NORMAL. UPDATED 09/18/07 *TR
WHILE DRIVING ESP/BAS LIGHTS COME ON AND STAYED ON. AFTER 3-4 KEY CYCLES IT MAY GO OUT. DEALER REPLACED SENSOR ONCE BEFORE, BUT CONTINUED TO COME ON, IT DID NOT STORE ANY CODES. THIS PART WAS REPLACED ON 3/15/07. DEALER STATED THAT NOT WAS FOUND. *AK
CAR DIES WHILE DRIVING, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH BOARD CAME ON, LOST ALL POWER, AND THE WITHIN ABOUT 10 SECONDS IT STARTS BACK ON ITS OWN. . DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE STALLING ISSUE, THIS WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, WHEN KIDS WERE E IN AN AUTOMOBILE THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WAS GOING TO LOSE POWER, IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. TWICE IT STALLED, AND LUCKILY MY KIDS WEREN'T WITH ME. PLEASE ADVISE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. BEFORE SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY HURT. *AK
AS YOU ARE PUTTING GAS INTO THE FUEL TANK IT WILL OVERFLOW FROM FILLER SPOUT AND SPILL OUT CAUSING A HAZARDOUS CONDITION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THIS WILL HAPPEN NOT MATTER THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE HOLE INTO THE GAS TANK IS SMALLER THAN THE FILL LINE AND CAUSES BACK UP. IF YOU TRY TO FILL VERY SLOW THE SENSOR IN THE PUMP DOES NOT DETECT AND IT OVERFLOWS. DEALER HAS REPLACED GAS TANK BUT DID NOT HELP THE PROBLEM. *TR
IN FEBRUARY 2007 I BOUGHT A NEW DODGE NITRO 4X2. ON JUNE 13, 2007 AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED AND THEN LOST ALL POWER. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, THE RADIO AND FANS SHUT OFF ALL THE WHILE STILL COASTING, THEN, IN ABOUT 3 SECONDS THE CAR THEN SUDDENLY CAME BACK ON, THE DASH BOARD LIT UP AND THE CAR ACTED LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD, WHEN I COULD STEER AGAIN, AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. IT HAS BEEN AT THE SHOP EVER SINCE. THE MECHANIC AT THE DODOGE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THE CAR WAS RUNNING PERFECT FOR HIM, AND THEY CAN'T LOCATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THIS WA S BECOMING A COMMON OCCURENCE WITH NITRO OWNERS. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO DO A RECALL ON THE CAR OR REMEDY THE SITUATION IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ANY MORE INJURIES OR WORSE YET, DEATHS OCCUR. *AK
2007 DODGE NITRO SLT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE SECOND INCIDENT JUST YESTERDAY, IT MOMENTARILY STALLED, BUT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTED BACK UP. ALL DASH LIGHTS AND RADIO SHUT OFF, THEN CAME BACK ON WHEN VEHICLE STARTED BACK UP. MANY PEOPLE WERE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM, AND GIVEN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS, COULD HAVE DEADLY CONSEQUENCES. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY CLOSE CALLS) WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I DIDN'T TO WAIT AROUND TO FIND OUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN. DODGE/CHRYSLER NEEDED DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE DIED. *AK
BROUGHT TRUCK TO THE DEALER DUE TO AIR CONDITIONER (A?C) NOT COOLING OFF THE TRUCK. THEY STATED THEY TESTED AND IT WAS WORKING NORMALLY. AFTER PICKING UP THE TRUCK ON / 7/19/07 WENT HOME WITH AC ON, IT WAS 84 DEGREES OUTSIDE. PUT THE THERMOMETER IN TRUCK AND DROVE WITH WINDOWS UP AND A/C ON HIGH FOR 1 HOUR. TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS STILL 84 DEGREES, BUT TEMPERATURE INSIDE TRUCK WAS 80 DEGREES. DROVE BACK TO DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, LEFT TRUCK RUNNING, SHOWED THEM, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL, BECAUSE THE COLD AIR AT THE VENT WAS 45 DEGREES, BUT AT THE DRIVER'S SEAT IT WAS 80 DEGREES. THIS HAS TO BE A PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1-2 GEAR AT TIMES THERE WA SK, WHEN SHIFTING THROUGH ALL GEARS THERE WAS A SURGE IN POWER OR LACK OF GAS POWER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, COULD NOT FIND,ANYTHING WRONG OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I HAVE A 2007 DODGE NITRO R/T WITH THE 4.0. MY NITRO IS STALLING AND NOT IN GOOD PLACES, ON THE FREEWAY, IN TRAFFIC. I FEEL THIS IS NOT SAFE. I WANT DAIMLER CHRYSLER TO FIX THIS BEFORE I OR SOMEONE HAS A ACCADENT.
HAD MY CAR INTO DEALER 2 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SHUTS DOWN WHILE IN MOTION. HAVE HAD 5 INCIDENTS OF STALLING. THE 5TH TIME WAS THE SAME THING, IT COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. UNABLE TO STEER AND BRAKE. I RAN OFF THE ROAD, THROUGH A CHAIN LINK FENCE, DOWN AN IMBANKMENT INTO SOMEBODY'S BACK YARD, THE ONLY THING STOPPING MY VEHICLE WAS A LARGE CAR TRAILER. I WAS SLIGHTLY INJURED (BRUISING). IT IS MY OPINION THAT DODGE HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE HERE, THAT THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING. THE DEALER HAS MADE FAILED ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE TORQUE CONVERTOR AND THE CLK SPRING. I NOW HAVE A BRAND NEW CRASHED CAR. I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR MYSELF. SEARCHING THE YOUR NHTSA SITE, I HAVE FOUND 32 COMPLAINTS FOR THIS STALLING PROBLEM ON ALL DODGE NITRO MODELS LISTED ON THIS SITE. WHY HASN'T NHTSA INSISTED ON A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES OR AT LEAST A WARNING TO THE DRIVERS, THIS APPEARS TO BE NEGLIGENCE ON YOUR PART. PLEASE CONTACT ME AS TO WHY NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN.

THE CONTACT HAS BEEN ON A WAITING LIST FOR THE PART SINCE JUNE OF 2007. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,746.

I HAVE HAD MY NEW 07 DODGE NITRO COMPLETELY DIE ON ME TWICE NOW FOR NO REASON AT ALL. ONCE WHILE IN A PARKING LOT AND ONCE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE. ALL LIGHTS AND POWER CEASED AND ALL GAUGES WENT TO 0. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR ME. I TRAVEL WITH MY CHILD AND HIS AND MY SAFETY SEEM TO BE IN SERIOUS DANGER WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH 3 DODGE DEALERS AND WENT IN TO HAVE MY CAR CHECKED OVER ALREADY AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? I FELL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME MAKING A $450 A MONTH PAYMENT FOR A VEHICLE THAT I CANT DEPEND ON.
IN INTERSTATE RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON MAY 23 WHILE GOING ABOUT 70 MPH THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. ALL LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASHBOARD, AND THE CAR WAS OUT FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS, THEN ,IT CAME BACK ON. THE CARS BEHIND ME HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON JUNE 12 AND IT STALLED GOING ABOUT 10 MPH. THIS TIME HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THE DEALER CHECKED THE CAR AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. BY READING ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG AND NEEDED TO BE FIXED BEFORE THERE WAS A DEATH. *AK
COMPLAINT CONCERNS ENGINE STALLS. DODGE NITRO (07) PURCHASED IN JANUARY 1. 2007. UNDER 5000 MILES ON CAR: IN MARCH WHILE DRIVING A T 65 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. DASH LIGHTS TURNED ON, CAR COASTED, THEN RESTARTED ON ITS OWN AFTER 2-3 SECONDS. SCARED THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME. DRIVING CONDITIONS, WET, MID-40S, NIGHT. NOTIFIED DEALER, BUT UNABLE TO SCHEDULE DUE TO UPCOMING 3-WEEK VACATION. SECOND INSTANCE MAY 21, DRIVING 65, FELT A 'CLUNG' CAR STALLED, COASTED TO COUNT OF 3-4 SECONDS, THEN CAR RE-STARTED. DEALER NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY, ALSO THAT CAR WAS SHIFTING ROUGH AND CLUNKY. MAY 24, DEALER CHECKED FOR TECH BULLETINS, WIPED OUT TRANSMISSION MODULE PROGRAMMING AND RE-PROGRAMMED. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS FIXED...SOMETIMES STILL SHIFTS HARD, AND THERE WAS SOME TIME BETWEEN FIRST TWO ENGINE FAILURES. HAVE HAD OTHER LITTLE GLITCHES LIKE ONE CAR DOOR LOCK DOES NOT WORK WITH KEY FOB. I AM WEARY OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN AND ME BEING IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT...GOD HELP EVERYONE AT THAT POINT. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE AND GET THIS DONE IMMEDIATELY. OR RECALL CAR. *AK
I HAVE OWNED MY NITRO FOR 3 MONTHS AND HAVE EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE ON 2 OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT 6 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE. I HAD JUST LEFT MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS GOING LESS THAN 15 MPH. I HAD TO COAST TO THE CURB AND TURN THE KEY TO RESTART IT. IT HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY. I HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 75 MPH AROUND 9 PM. MY HEADLIGHTS, AC AND RADIO WERE ALSO IN USE AT THE TIME. THE CAR LOST ALL POWER...ALL LIGHTS WENT OFF, THE ENGINE STOPPED. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND US OR MY FAMILY AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. WITHIN 5 SECONDS IT RESTARTED AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED AS IF I HAD JUST STARTED IT. THE ONLY THING THAT DID NOT COME BACK ON WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL. I WILL ADVISE THE DEALER FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING, BUT FROM READING THE OTHER OWNERS POSTS, IT DOESN'T APPEAR THEY WILL KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. *TR

THE TRANSMISSION IS TAKING LONGER TO ENGAGE AFTER EACH FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 7,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS SIGNALED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE ABS. NINE MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THAT COMPONENT, BUT SHE COULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,792.

THE CONSUMER PROVIDED REPAIR INVOICES FOR THE VEHICLE AND A VEHICLE INSPECTION REPORT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CLAMP ON THE OIL COOLER WAS MISSING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY THE FOLLOWING THREE DAYS AND ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SIX DIFFERENT TIMES AND THEY REPLACED THE TIPM; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL OCCURS. THE VEHICLE IS NOT BEING DRIVEN. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE LEMON LAW OFFICE. THE DEALER DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THREE WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 3,880 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500.

SERIOUS TRANSMISSION SHIFTING PROBLEMS CAUSED BOG DOWN IN GEAR CHANGING, THEN SURGING . ALSO, JUST SHUT DOWN VEHICLE, LEAVING DRIVER POWERLESS TO PREVENT A REAR END COLLISION. TERRIBLE PROBLEM, THAT WAS NOT CORRECTED BY CURRENT CHRYSLER'S TSB. I HAD COMPUTER UPDATE AND NEW TORQUE CONVERTER, AND STILL SHIFTING PROBLEMS. LOUD CLANKING NOISES, BUMPS WHILE SHIFTING. STRANGE SOUNDS AND VIBRATIONS FROM UNDER FLOORBOARDS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GOT SERIOUSLY HURT. CRYSLER NEEDED TO TAKE ACTION ON THIS AND QUIT MAKING EXCUSES VERY DANGEROUS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THE 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4 STALLED AS I WAS ENTERING A RIGHT HAND CURVE. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND POWER TO THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO AVOID AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST ON ITS LEFT SIDE AS IT ROLLED OFF THE EMBANKMENT. THIS RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL COSMETIC AND UNDERCARRIAGE DAMAGE. BOTH CEILING/ CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. POLICE AND AMBULANCE ARRIVED ON SCENE , AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST SHOP. THE NITRO STALLED A COUPLE OF INSTANCES BEFORE THIS CRASH AND WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION AND SERVICED BY THE LOCAL DEALER THAT IT WAS PURCHASED FROM.*AK
THE CAR WILL DIE WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS ON INTERSTATE. ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, AND THEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND THEN COME BACK ON. THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE WHILE THIS HAPPENED. *AK
NITRO VIBRATES BETWEEN 38- 42 MPH AS THOUGH IT WAS IN OVER DRIVE. NOT ENOUGH POWER AT THAT SPEED IN OVER DRIVE. V-6 ENGINE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET 18-24 MPG, WE GOT 14 CITY ,18 HIGHWAY. VERY HARD SHIFTING. BEEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES SO FAR WITH NO CORRECT RESULTS. ALSO, DIED AT STOP SIGNS AT TIMES. *AK

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY REPAIRED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
GOT VEHICLE 12/06 - IT STALLED A COUPLE TIMES WHEN DRIVING/BACKING AT SLOW SPEEDS. 4/19/07 - WHILE DRIVING 50+ MPH, ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND RADIO WENT OFF. WITHIN A SECOND, ALL LIGHTS AND THE RADIO CAME BACK ON AND VEHICLE SEEMED TO RUN OK. WE ARE CALLING DEALERSHIP TO DISCUSS/TAKE IN FOR SERVICE. WITH ONLY 4,500 MILES ON MY 2007 DODGE NITRO, THE ENTIRE ENGINE STALLED, DIED, WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, GOING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR. POWER LOSS WAS COMPLETE, NO RADIO, NO ENGINE, ALL LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAME ON. THE OUTAGE LASTED ABOUT , I GUESS 30 SECS TO 1 MINUTE, THEN THE ENGINE CAME BACK ON AS DID THE RADIO. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, ON THE INSIDE LANE AND HAD IT NOT RESTARTED, I WAS IN A WRECK FOR SURE AS A BIG TRUCK WAS BEHIND ME, ANOTHER CAR NEXT TO ME IN THE OUTSIDE LANE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WHICH SAYS IT COULD BE THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT AFTER READING FOR HOURS ON THE DODGE NITRO FORUM, I FIND THAT MANY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE AND NOT ONE DEALER HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND A FIX. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP 7 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT. ALL OF THE PROBLEMS ARE A PROBLEM FOR ME AS THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND BEING SINGLE, I HAVE NO OTHER TRANSPORTATION TO MY TEACHING JOB. BUT THIS STALLING ISSUE, IF NOT FIXED, WILL LEAD TO A MAJOR ACCIDENT ANY DAY. CHRYSLER NEED TO BE ACTIVELY PURSUING A FIX OR A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2007 DODGE NITRO SLT 4X2 ON FEBRUARY 23RD, 2007 FROM SAN MARCOS AUTO OUTLET. SINCE BUYING IT HAS STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING 4 TIMES. IT HAS STALLED OUT AT LIGHTS, PARKING LOTS, ETC. WHILE DRIVING. HOWEVER, IT GOT MUCH WORSE AS ON THE FOURTH TIME IT STALLED OUT AT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND THAN CAME BACK ON. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE VERY FORTUNATE TO NOT GET SERIOUSLY INJURED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER 4 TIMES AND THEY CAN NOT GET IT TO FAULT THE SAME WAY. WE REFUSE TO PUT OURSELVES AT RISK IN THIS VEHICLE AND WE TOLD THE DEALER WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK. IT IS STILL SITTING ON HIS LOT WITH NO RESOLUTION AT THIS TIME. WE ARE WORKING ON THIS SITUATION STILL WITH THE OWNER. WE HAVE NO PLANS OF TAKING THE CAR BACK. *JB

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AS IT SHIFTS THROUGH THE GEARS IT MAY SHIFT FLAWLESSLY OR VERY ERRATICALLY. WHEN SHIFTING ERRATICALLY IT GOES FROM GEAR TO GEAR WITH A HARD BANGING NOISE FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE, OR IT SHIFTS THROUGH THE GEARS AND BOGS DOWN WITH A VIBRATION FROM UNDER THE FLOOR BOARDS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TWICE SO FAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE POWER CONTROL MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED BUT THIS DID NOT HELP. THE SECOND TIME A PART WAS REPROGRAMMED THAT WAS ON A RECALL BUT THIS DIDN'T HELP EITHER. *TR
OVER THE LAST MONTH I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY DODGE NITRO SLT. THE MOST SERIOUS WAS IT SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. TWO LESS SERIOUS ISSUES WAS THE DRIVER'S WINDOW OFTEN STALLING AND A TSM ALERT SOUNDS. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME ISSUES.*AK
WELL I BOUGHT MY 2007 DODGE NITRO IN JAN.07 AND AFTER 1 MONTH I ENCOUNTERED STALLING PROBLEMS, ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU WILL BE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH OR LESS AND THE ENGINE WOULD STALE OUT AND ALL LIGHTS COME ON THEN THE CAR MIGHT CONTINUE ON OR YOU HAVE TO RESTART IT. THE PROBLEM IS I ALMOST GOT T-BONED IN AN INTERSECTION WHICH COULD OF KILLED ME SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *JB
WHEN MOVING VEHICLE AT SPEEDS UNDER 5 MILES AN HOUR AND TURNING THE STEERING COLUMN EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT YOU WILL HEAR A KNOCKING TYPE SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN LIKE IT IS HITTING SOMETHING WHILE TURNING. IT ONLY HAPPENS DURING SLOW SPEED LIKE TURNING IN A PARKING LOT. *JS

SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY IN THE 2007 DODGE NITRO DURING A PASSENGER-SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT. MY WIFE SUSTAINED FACIAL LACERATION, NUMEROUS BROKEN RIBS, AND INTERNAL ORGAN DAMAGE. THE IMPACT POINT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND PART OF THE REAR QUARTER PANEL.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP) LIGHT REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IN DRY CONDITIONS, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED, BLINKED, AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER ON MARCH 14, 2007 AND THEY REPLACED THE PDC SENSOR. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON APRIL 6, 2007 AND THEY CLEARED ALL OF THE ERROR CODES. ON MAY 4, 2007, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH IN NORMAL CONDITIONS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,700 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,801.
I HAVE HAD FIVE INSTANCES WHERE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 45MPH TO 70 MPH AND THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY SHUTS OFF. ALL LIGHTS, RADIO AND POWER TURN OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN TURNS BACK ON WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION. AFTER THE CAR RESETS, IT TAKES ANOTHER SECOND OR TWO BEFORE YOU CAN PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL AND ACCELERATE. IF YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE TOO SOON THE ENGINE JUST REVVS. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE CAR TURNING OFF ONCE AND HAVING TO RESTART IT WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. AFTER THE THIRD INCIDENT, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE SINCE THEN AND IS GOING BACK THIS WEEK TO BE LOOKED AT. FROM LOOKING AT THE COMPLAINT LISTING, I HAVE BEEN LUCKY/BLESSED NOT TO HAVE EXPERIENCED AN ACCIDENT AND SOMETHING MUST BE DONE BEFORE CATASTROPHES START TO HAPPEN. AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE OF OCCURRENCES THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP. THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP FOR FAILURE AGAIN THE CONTACT TOLD THE MECHANICS TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR A DAY IN HOPES THAT THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC OBEYED , AND CALLED THE CONTACT THE NEXT DAY. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS DETERMINED, ADJUSTED, AND REPAIRED. TWO TO THREE DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND STALLED, AND FINALLY SHUT OFF. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 40 SECONDS SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO THE SHOP TWO DAYS LATER WHERE IT CURRENTLY REMAINED. THE CONTACT MET WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALER AND MADE HIM AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,200, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 560. *AK
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35 TO 50 MPH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM JUST CEASED GENERATING POWER FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS AND THEN ALL INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS WOULD ILLUMINATE SIMULTANEOUSLY,ONLY FOR VEHICLE TO GAIN ELECTRICALLY POWER AND CONTINUE AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. *JB
