TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN SHE NOTICED A VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIANS REPLACED THE BRAKES HOWEVER, AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. *TR
WHILE FUELING MY 2008 DODGE NITRO R/T AS THE FUEL REACHES FULL AND THE GAS PUMP CLICKS OFF, FUEL BURPS UP AND SPILLS TO GROUND/ON TO SIDE OF VEHICLE. THIS OCCURS EACH TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK. *TR
DURING MULTIPLE INCIDENTS, THE VEHICLE HAS "BURPED" GAS WHEN THE TANK FILLS.ABOUT A 1/2 GALLON OF GAS SPILLS OUT THE FUEL FILLER NECK AND ONTO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. I SEE INTERNET SITES CLAIMING THIS TO BE A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THERE IS NO INDICATION WHEN THE GAS WILL SPEW FROM THE TANK AND THIS OCCURS DURING MANUAL PUMP OPERATION AS WELL IS IF THE PUMP HANDLE IS ON AUTOMATIC FILL. *TR
FUEL WILL SPLASH OUT OF TANK EVERY TIME I FILL UP AND USE AUTO SHUT OFF. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER/DODGE VEHICLES IF YOU SEARCH FOR COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND 45,000 2005 DURANGOS WERE APPARENTLY RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE FIRE HAZARD AT GAS STATIONS AS WELL AS SOMETHING THAT CAN POTENTIALLY DAMAGE THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE. DODGE IS CLAIMING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL MY FUEL TANK IN MY 08 DODGE NITRO RT IT SPILLS OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND. THIS OCCURS WHEN IM SETTING THE PUMP TO STOP AUTOMATICALLY AND THE PUMP STOPS THEN THE TANK STARTS TO SPILL. IT SEEMS TO A CHECK VALVE ISSUE WITH THE TANK AN CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD AT THE FUEL STATIONS FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND. A SIMPLE SPARK DUE TO A FAULTY GROUND IN THE AREA COULD CAUSE THIS TO IGNITE AND BE POTENTIALLY FATAL. I FEEL CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND A SAFETY RECALL BE ISSUED. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT THE POWERS THAT BE ARE NOT ENFORCING CHRYSLER TO MAKE THIS A RECALL ISSUE. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE TO BECOME SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. CHRYSLER HAS A TSB (14-001-09) IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE SO THEY KNOW IT IS A PROBLEM AND THEY CONTINUE TO WANT TO CHARGE CUSTOMERS TO FIX THE ISSUE. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ASAP! *TR
WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH GAS, WHEN THE PUMP CLICKS OFF GAS SPEWS FROM THE FILLER TUBE. IT RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ALSO GETS ALL OVER WHOSOEVER IS FILLING THE VEHICLE. YOU CANNOT SAFELY FILL THIS VEHICLE WITH GAS, NO MATTER HOW SLOW YOU TRY. YOU MUST STOP BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS FULL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE AND WHEN THE BACK-UP ASSIST SYSTEM HAPHAZARDLY ALERTED THAT THERE WAS AN OBJECT BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OBJECTS OR PERSONS BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE BACK-UP SENSORS WAS PUSHED INWARD AND THE PLASTIC BETWEEN THE BUMPER WAS MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE EXHAUST PIPE WAS RUSTED AND FRACTURED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE EXHAUST PIPE, BUMPER AND BACK UP SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
TAKATA RECALL ON 9-6-2012 MY HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT NOT HIS FAULT. HE WAS THE 3RD CAR IN RIGHT HAND LANE HEADING EAST AT A STOPLIGHT WITH CARS IN THE NEXT LANE ALSO AT THE STOPLIGHT NEXT TO HIM, A TRUCK HIT HIM GOING ABOUT 55-65 MPH AND HIS HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING HIM TO HAVE INJURIES REQUIRING LIFEFLIGHT TO A TRAUMA CENTER IN HOUSTON, TX. HE HAD A BRAIN INJURY AND REQUIRED 124 STITCHES IN HIS MOUTH AND A SEVERED SPLEEN. HE HAD A BRAIN BLEED AND IT NEVER FULLY WENT AWAY. MANY VISITS TO THE NEUROSURGEON AND CAT SCANS FOLLOWED FOR A YEAR. HE WAS NEVER ABLE TO GO BACK TO WORK. HE WAS 65 AT THE TIME AND WAS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AT TEXAS DEPT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE. HIS PERSONALITY CHANGED DUE TO THE PAIN HE SUFFERED AND HE DIED 7-2-17 WITH HEADACHES AND A BRAIN BLEED GOING ON. HIS AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED IN THE ACCIDENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH, THE HORN, WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND DOOR LOCKS ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN ANY OF THE COMPONENTS OFF UNTIL THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS NO LONGER DRIVING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE HORN, LIGHTS AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WHEN I FILL UP THE VEHICLE WITH GAS IT OVERFLOWS. IT DOESN'T SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. GAS THEN POURS OUT OF THE CAR AND DOWN THE SIDE. MANY TIMES THE PERSON PUMPING THE GAS GETS IT ALL OVER THEMSELVES. IT IS NOT THE GAS PUMP, I'VE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT STATIONS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STALLED,HORN STARTED HONKING,LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON AND STARTED SPRAYING WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID. I WAS GOING 25 MPH THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED, VEHICLE SAT FOR A FEW HOURS THEN STARTED BACK UP. THE 2ND AND 3RD TIME IT DID THE SAME AS THE FIRST WHEN I PRESSED THE DOOR UNLOCK BUTTON ON MY KEY FOB, WHEN I HIT THE FUSEBOX IN BEHIND THE BATTERY UNDER THE HOOD IT CEASED. *TR
CRASHED THE VEHICLE INTO POLE. THE CAR IS TOTALED. PASSENGER AIRBAGS WENT OFF. DRIVERS AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF. WITH THE AMOUNT OF IMPACT THE CAR TOOK ON, THE DRIVERS AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. SIGNIFICANT INJURIES, HEAD HIT WINDSHIELD, FOUR BROKEN RIBS, 2 BROKEN TOES, ONE DISLOCATED. HAS BEEN HOSPITALIZED NOW FOR 6 DAYS. AND NOW GETTING TRANSFERRED TO A REHABILATION HOSPITAL. *TR
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS MALFUNCTIONED. LIGHTS GO ON AND OFF, WINSHIELD WIPERS COME ON, HORN HONKS CONSTANTLY, ENGINE STALLS, ETC. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO STOP IS UN-HOOKING THE BATTERY AND LETTING IT SET FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SO WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO GET IT LOOKED AT. THEY TOLD US IT WAS A SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO IT COST JUST OVER $800. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE CAR HAS SHOWN THE SAME PROBLEMS. MOST RECENTLY A FEW DAYS AGO. *JS
HAD A SPRING UNDER CYLINDER BREAK, $375 TO FIX. REPLACED THE TIPM $555.95 NOW THE SKIM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE 8/28/15 FOR THE PART TO COME IN. IT IS NOW 9/5/15 AND THE DEALERSHIPS TELLING ME THEY DON'T NOW WHERE THE PART IS AND WHY IT HASN'T CAME IN YET. ALSO SINCE IT IS A HOILDAY WEEKEND THEY CAN'T FIND OUT ANY THING UNTIL 9/8. I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. VERY FRUSTRATED! I WILL TELL EVERYBODY I SEE WITH A NITRO TO GO TRADE IT IN ASAP BUY ANYTHING BUT A DODGE!
A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK I WAS DRIVING HOME AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. THERE WAS A SLIGHT SHAKING FROM TIME TO TIME WHEN I WOULD GO AND STOP. IT DID NOT DO IT EVERY TIME I DROVE IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM I DID NOT WANT THE TRUCK. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO THAT THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM FOR FREE. I HAD TO FIGHT WITH THEM FOR 3 MONTHS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. THEY NEVER GAVE ME A DIRECT ANSWER, BUT SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM . THE FOLLOWING MONTH THE ABS LIGHT CAME BACK ON, AND I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK AGAIN. I DESCRIBED THE SHAKING THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. THEY MADE THE LIGHT GO OFF, AND TOLD ME IF THE SHAKE HAPPENED I SHOULD BRING IT WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T TELL OTHERWISE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, MY BACK BRAKE LOCKED UP AND STARTED SMOKING AFTER MY VACATION WHICH THE HEAT SHIELD WAS FLAPPING IN THE WIND OUT OF NO WHERE ON THE RIDE HOME AND FELL OFF WHEN I STOPPED(STILL YET TO BE FIXED). I REPLACED THE CALIPER, BRAKE, AND THE ROTORS. I HAD THE FRONT CHECKED AND THEY SAID THE BRAKES WERE FINE. 2 WEEKS LATER THE SHAKING STARTED AGAIN, AND THE FRONT BRAKE LOCKED UP AND STARTED SMOKING. I HAD TO REPEAT REPLACING ALL THE SAME PARTS. 2 WEEKS LATER AGAIN! THE FRONT BRAKE STARTED LOCKING UP SO HARD IT PULLED TO THE LEFT, AND WAS GLOWING RED WHEN I PULLED OVER. I TOOK IT TO DODGE THIS TIME, AND THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINE HAD COLLAPSED. WHEN WILL THIS END AND ARE ALL THESE THINGS RELATED TO THE RECALLS? IF NOT CONSIDERING I DRIVE MY 4 CHILDREN IN THIS CAR AND IT IS A DANGER WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT? WHY DID THEY NOT TELL ME THESE CARS HAVE THESE ISSUES, AND WHY ARE THEY SELLING THEM AND NOT NOTIFYING BUYERS OF POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING PROBLEMS.THE COILS, AND BRAKES AND ALL ARE RUSTY LIKE A OLD CAR I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A CAR AS NEW AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF COULD BE THIS WAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE GEAR SHIFT WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE GEAR SHIFT CABLES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,700. UPDATED 07/19/12*LJ
THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BUT IT HAS CAUSED THE GASOLINE TO SHOOT OUT OF MY GAS TANK AND DRENCH ME IN GAS SEVERAL TIMES. I BELIEVE IF THERE IS A SENSOR IN MY GAS TANK THAT IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY ENOUGH TO INDICATE THAT THE TANK IS FULL OR CLOSE TO FULL WHEN I'M PUMPING GAS. WHEN I PULL OUT THE NOZZLE THE GAS SHOOTS OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE ( THIS IS AFTER THE GAS HAS SHUT OFF AT THE PUMP). DON'T KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR INCIDENTS REPORTED BUT IT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR ME TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. THE DODGE DEALER THAT SOLD US THE VEHICLE WHEN NEW DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO INVESTIGATE MY COMPLAINT SO I'M LOOKING TO OTHER SOURCES TO SEE IF THIS IS JUST A RANDOM PROBLEM OR ONE THAT IS WORTH INVESTIGATING FURTHER FOR EVERYONE'S BENEFIT. *TR
I HAVE BEEN A POLICE OFFICER FOR OVER 21 PLUS YEARS OF MY LIFE WORSE DODGE VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. THIS VEHICLE IS A 2008 DODGE NITRO.I AM PRAYING THAT THIS WILL HELP BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED IN THIS VEHICLE. THE ROAD NOISE IN THIS VEHICLE IS SO LOUD U CANT HEAR YOURSELF TALK. THE VEHICLE STARTED SHOOTING WIPER FLUID DRIVING DOWN THE ROADWAY, TURNED WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON AND THEY DON'T WORK. STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WRECKING BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC THEY COME ON AND WONT TURN OFF. HORN GOES OFF ALL THE TIME GOING DOWN THE ROADWAY. THE HEADLIGHTS WILL TURN OFF WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. THE TRANSMISSION WILL STOP SHIFTING, STOPS U IN THE ROADWAY. THE BACK RUNNING LIGHTS GO OFF AND ON. THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS NOW STOPPED WORKING. THE WINDOW WILL ROLL DOWN AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN RAIN STORMS WHERE NOTHING WORKS VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF. I KNOW THE 2007 HAD A RECALL ON THE TIPM BUT NOTHING YET ON THE 2008. I HAD THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP SENSE MAY I HAD NO OTHER MEANS OF GETTING TO WORK SO I'M DRIVING THIS VEHICLE NOW AND LETTING MY WIFE DRIVE MY TRUCK. THE MECHANIC SAID I SHOULD SELL THIS DEATH TRAP. I CANT DO THAT I WILL TRUST THAT SOMEONE ON THIS SITE WILL HELP. DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT THEM TO DO UNTO YOU. PLEASE HELP WITH GETTING THESE PROBLEM PLACED ON AN ACTIVE RECALL. WHEN UNLOCKING CAR OR STARTING CAR, VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTS BLARING THE HORN, ALL THE WIPERS START RUNNING, LIGHTS BLINKING, IT LOOKS LIKE I AM STEALING MY OWN VEHICLE! THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE! *TR

THE STEERING WHEEL THEN SEIZED TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CONTACT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES ALSO ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AND THREW THE CONTACT FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,500.
I RECENTLY FILED A CLAIM WITH DODGE DUE TO RUST DEVELOPING UNDER CLEAR COAT OF MY 2008 SILVER DODGE NITRO R/T 4X4, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW FROM DEALERSHIP. I HAVE BEEN DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE REPAIR UNDER THE DODGE CASE NUMBER 22173077 ALONG WITH ONE OTHER PERSON WHO WAS DENIED UNDER CASE NUMBER 22212592, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS RAIL DUST FROM TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLE VIA TRAIN, AND THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE CLEANED THE CAR PRIOR TO HAVING THE OUTER PROTECTION BEING APPLIED. I PURCHASED MY NITRO IN 2011 AND SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF THE DOORLOCKS TURNING OFF AND ON,ALARM GOING OFF,WIND SHIELD WIPERS GOING OFF,LIGHTS BLINKING AND FLUID DISCHARGING,HORN BLOWING. ETC.... NUMEROUS OWNERS OF THE 2008 NITRO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND NO ONE FROM THE DODGE DEALERSHIP IS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THERE MALFUNCTIONED PARTS. I THINK THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT DODGE IN ITSELF IF YOU ARE NOT RECALLING THEIR NITROS AND HAVING THEM FIXED BEFORE THIS PROBLEM CAUSES A SERIOUS INJURY. HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, FLASHERS COME ON WHENEVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT. A/C STOPS WORKING, THEN WORKS AGAIN. ALL INTERIOR ELECTRONICS OCCASIONALLY FAIL. ENGINE SHUTS ITSELF OFF. DEALER STATES IT IS THE TIPM. COST TO REPAIR WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY - $410... NEW TIPM INSTALLED, OCCASIONALLY STILL HAVE MINOR ISSUES. *TR
AS I FILL THE TANK THE PUMP WILL SHUT OFF AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT THE GAS HAS A LARGE SPLASH BACK FROM INSIDE OF THE TANK I CONSULTED A MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT IT IS THE ROLL OVER/VENT VALVE INSIDE OF THE TANK AND THAT IT DOES NOT OPEN AND CLOSE CORRECTLY AND THAT THE ONLY FIX FOR IT IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK AT MY EXPENSE. THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD IN TWO WAYS WHEN FUELING THE CAR, GROUND AND THE OPERATOR SHOULD NOT BE COVERED WITH GASOLINE AT ANY TIME SECOND IF THE ROLL OVER VALVE FAILS THEN IT SHOULD BE A FAILURE OF THE MFG AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING, THE FUEL PUMP SHUT OFF AS GASOLINE BEGAN TO SPEW ALL OVER THE CONTACT AND THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE VENT VALVE MAY HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 3/13/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THIS FAILURE OCCURS AT EVERY FUELING. A SERVICE MANAGER WITH CHRYSLER ADVISED THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS OF THE DEFAULT WITH THE ROLLOVER CHECK VALVES. HE STATED REPLACING THE TANK IS POSSIBLY A TEMPORARY FIX. CHRYSLER OFFERED AN ASSISTANCE TO PAY LESS THAN HALF OF THE COST OF REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER DECLINED STATING THAT REPLACING THE TANK WAS NOT GUARANTEED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 03/28/2013 *JS
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE GAS WILL SPEW OUT AS THE TANK GETS FULL. THE GAS GETS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR AS WELL AS THE GROUND AROUND THAT AREA. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM ON NITRO FORUMS AND THE CAUSE IS KNOWN TO BE A FAULTY ROLL OVER VALVE IN THE TANK. THE ONLY FIX IS TO HAVE THE TANK COMPLETELY REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND SAFETY CONCERN AND THE OWNER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THIS IS NOT SANITARY OR GOOD FOR THE CAR. THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WAS RECALLED ON THE JEEP LIBERTIES BUT NOT FOR OUR NITRO'S, WHICH HAVE THE EXACT SAME TANK. THIS IS A SERIOUS HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK, PLEASE HELP US NITRO OWNERS OUT. *TR
STARTED DRIVING A 2008 NITRO THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. UPON REFUELING THE VEHICLE, EVERYTIME THE SOME PART OF THE FUEL TANK CAUSES GAS TO OVERFLOW ONTO THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. WHETHER THE HOSE IS BEING PUMPED MANUALLY OR TRIGGERED TO STAY ON DOES NOT CHANGE THIS OUTCOME. THIS IS AN EVIRONMENTAL AS WELL AS A SAFETY CONCERN. UPON SOME RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURED ON PREVIOUS MODELS. WHY HASNT A RECALL BEEN ISSUED? THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT INCUR A COST DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN THE COMPANY SHOULD HAVE FIXED. *TT
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO ABOUT 70-71 MILES PER HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A DING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CLOSEST EXIT WAS LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE AWAY SO I TOOK THAT EXIT. AS I BEGAN TO EXIT THE INTERSTATE THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ACT REALLY STRANGE. THE SPEED OF THE TRUCK WAS ACTING UP, SLOWING DOWN/SPEEDING UP UNPREDICTABLY, AND EVEN THE STEERING GOT REALLY HARD TO CONTROL. AT THIS POINT A FEW MORE WARNING LIGHTS DINGED ON. AS THIS HAPPENED, I QUICKLY PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FRONTAGE ROAD, PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK, AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. THE ENGINE HAD ALREADY SHUT ITSELF OFF. AT THIS POINT I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK WITH THE KEYS, OPENED THE DOOR AND NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE PREPARED TO INSPECT UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED A LOT MORE WHITE SMOKE THAN THE FEW MOMENTS BEFORE. HAVING WALKED OVER TO THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK, I WONDERED IF IT WAS SAFE TO PUT MY HAND UNDER THE HOOD TO RELEASE THE LOCKING MECHANISM DUE TO THE LARGE AMOUNTS OF WHITE SMOKE. I DECIDED NOT TO AND PROCEEDED TO WALK AROUND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEN I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED FIRE. UP UNTIL THIS POINT, THE TOTAL TIME ELAPSED FROM THE MOMENT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WAS NO MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES. BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING UP STATE TO MOVE INTO A DORM FOR MY LAST SEMESTER OF COLLEGE, MOST OF MY POSSESSIONS WERE LOST IN THE FIRE. *TR

IN ADDITION TO AGGRAVATION, ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE, PAINT DAMAGE, THERE ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES THAT COULD OCCUR IF SOME SORT OF AN IGNITION SOURCE OCCURRED AT THE TIME IT HAPPENED. *TR
AT ANY GIVEN TIME ALL OF THE ELECTRONICS ON MY 2008 DODGE NITRO WILL GO CRAZY WITHOUT CAUSE. WHILE YOUR DRIVING OR PARKED, ENGINE ON OR OFF, KEY IN OR OUT OF THE IGNITION THE HEADLIGHTS, WIPERS, HORN, WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID, BLINKERS, DOOR LOCKS, RADIO INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL JUST START GOING ON OR OFF. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR NOW. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS THE TIPM OR TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. THEY STATED THAT THE TIPM IS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY CAN NOT TELL ME WHEN MORE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. I CONTACT DODGE/CHRYSLER IN DETROIT AND THEY TOO COULD NOT GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ON GETTING THIS REPAIRED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF NITRO OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN LEFT WITHOUT ANSWERS. GASOLINE OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK. IT OCCURS WITHOUT "TOPPING OFF" AND WITHOUT WARNING. APPROX 0.5 GALLON SPRAYS OUT WITH MODERATE FORCE ON THE PERSON, CAR, AND GROUND. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN AND COMMON MALFUNCTION WITH DODGE AND JEEP VEHICLES. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHEN FILLING UP WITH GAS, INSTEAD OF THE PUMP SHUTTING OFF THE FLOW OF GAS, A GUSH OF GAS COMES FLOWING OUT AND OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ONTO THE GROUND. (I WOULD SAY AT LEAST A 2 CUPS OF GAS.) I BROUGHT UP THE FACT THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS AND I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT CHRYSLER HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. SO 'I TOOK THE KEY OUT' AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW - EVERYTHING CONTINUE TO DO THE SAME THING. ENDED UP DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. 12/02/11 I CONNECTED THE BATTERY FROM THE DISCONNECT THE NIGHT BEOFRE AND THE HORN SOUNDED FOR A FEW SECONDS BUT NOW MY HEATER IS NOT WORKING - ON THE WAY INTO THE OFFICE EVERYTHING HAPPENED AGAIN. PULLED OVER AND HAD TRUCK TOWED TO THE NEAREST DODGE DEALER. MY NITRO HAS 77,006 MILES ON IT. *TR

WHEN FILLING UP AT A SERVICE STATION, GAS WILL NOW FLOW BACK OUT CAUSING SIGNIFICANT SPILLAGE OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ON THE GROUND. THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE GAS TANK WHICH REGULATES OVERFLOW AND PREVENTS LEAKAGE IN AN OVERTURN ACCIDENT.
