I BOUGHT MY NITRO BRAND NEW IN 2009 2 YEARS LATER MY RADIO WOULD NOT TURN OFF AFTER CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND DOOR WAS OPEN. I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE SO MY BATTERY WOULD NOT DIE. IT ALSO WOULD SHIFT OFF AND ON WHEN EVER IT FELT LIKE WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY FLASHED IT BUT IT ONLY MAD IT WORSE. NOW IF THE FUSE WAS IN I WOULD BE DRIVING AND I'LL OF A SUDDEN MY WHOLE DASH WOULD LIGHT UP AND MY GAUGES WOULD START GOING BACK AND FORTH OUT OF CONTROL AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD TURN ON. I TOOK THE FUSE OUT IN 2010 AND STILL HAVE NOT HAD A RADIO IN MY NITRO SINCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKES ENGAGED WITHOUT ASSISTANCE FROM THE DRIVER. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BUT THE FAILED RECURRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 47,600.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AT DIFFERENT TIMES WHEN THE DRIVER WAS OPERATING IT. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT BUT IT WOULD STALL AGAIN. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO USE THE ALTERNATE KEY FOB AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE BATTERY IN THE KEY FOB NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AND WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CHANGED THE BATTERY AND HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,605. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000.
INTERMITENT PROBLEM ONLY CORRECTED BY REMOVING THE BATTERY CABLE AND RECONNECTING, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL START WORKING AT START UP OF ENGINE, NO LIGHTS WILL RESPOND, SIGNAL LIGHTS, HORN, HEADLIGTHS AND WIPERS CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. CAR IS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN DURING THIS MALFUNCTIONS MAKING IT UNSAFE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. ALSO DURING NORMAL DRIVING DOOR LOCKS UNLOCK AND LOCK ON INTERVALS OF ONE SECOND OR TWO, RADIO CHANGES STATIONS ON ITS OWN CONTINUOUSLY. PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE OFTEN NOW, ALMOST DAILY. *TR
ON 5/11/10 MY 2008 DODGE NITRO CRASHED INTO A LIGHT POLE IN A PARKING LOT SERVICE LANE. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO SHUT OFF. IT CONTINUED INTERMITTENTLY AND WHEN I TURNED TO GET OUT OF THE SERVICE LANE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE. AS A RESULT OF MY NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE IT CRASHED CAUSING SEVERE INJURIES TO ME . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, A LOUD WHINING SOUND WAS PRESENT NEAR THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT END BECAME EXTREMELY UNSTABLE AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS LATER. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
WHEN FILLING THE TANK, FUEL SPLASHES OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AFTER THE PUMP STOPS. I WOULD ESTIMATE AT LEAST A CUPFULL COMES OUT. IT RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ALSO ONTO THE PUMP HANDLE. IT DOES THIS EVEN WHEN FILLING AT A SLOW PUMPING RATE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FIRE RISK AND A HEALTH RISK. IT SEEMS LIKE FUEL WOULD ALSO SPILL IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE VEHICLE OVERTURNS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING THE 2008 DODGE NITRO AT ABOUT 68 MPH ON A SAN JOSE 101 FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC OUT OF NO WHERE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT EVEN HIT ANY BRAKES, I SAW THE LIGHT ON THE ENGINE ALMOST GOT INTO HORRIBLE ACCIDENT ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, THE RADIO AND ENGINE STOPPED. ABOUT 5 SECONDS LATER THE RADIO AND A/C CAME BACK ON, AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WENT BACK TO NORMAL. O CALLED CHRYSLER THEY SAID THEY CANT REALLY DO ANYTHING TILL THIS HAPPEN AT SERVICE SHOP. MY 2008 DODGE NITRO OVERFLOWS OUT OF THE GAS INTAKE AFTER THE PUMP NOZZLE CLICKS OFF AND THE TANK IS FULL. THIS HAPPENED OCCASIONALLY AT FIRST BUT NOW HAPPENS AT EVERY FILL UP AND SPILLS GASOLINE ALL OVER MY CAR AND THE GROUND. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MANY DODGE AND JEEP OWNERS. THIS NEEDS TO BE A FACTORY RECALL AND BE ADDRESSED. IT HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH DODGE VEHICLES AS FAR BACK AS 2005 FROM INFORMATION I HAVE READ ON THE WEB. *JS

GAS OVERFLOWS UPON FILL UP. HAS HAPPENED EACH FILL FOR 3 WEEKS SINCE I BOUGHT A USED 2008 DODGE NITRO STX. *TR
WHEN PUTTING GAS IN MY 2008 DODGE NITRO AT THE END OF THE FILL GASOLINE WILL ERUPT FROM THE FILL SPOUT AND SPILL OVER THE CAR AND THE GROUND. *TR
MY 2008 DODGE NITRO 4.0 LOSES ELECTRICAL POWER. AS I SEARCHED THE INTERNET TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS PROBLEM, I DISCOVERED THERE ARE QUITE A FEW DODGE NITRO DRIVERS WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO BLOGS AND SELF HELP SITES MANY PEOPLE ARE BEING SENT AWAY FROM DEALERSHIPS WITHOUT ASSURANCES BECAUSE THE CONDITION CANNOT BE REPLICATED. YOU SEE, AFTER THE POWER GOES OUT INEXPLICABLY IT WILL COME BACK ON. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN STALLED AT INTERSECTIONS WITH OTHERS LOSING ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD SEVERAL OUTAGES. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THE BATTERY WAS DEFECTIVE ON THIS TWO YEAR OLD CAR. I HAVE NOT LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING BUT I HAVE LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER WHILE MOVING FROM A PARKED POSITION. AS WELL, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE ENTERED MY CAR TO FIND THAT THE CLOCK NEEDS TO BE RESET AS THOUGH THE BATTERY HAD DIED. I WOULD SAY I HAVE HAD FIVE INCIDENTS OF POWER LOSS SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO. *LN
LAST EVENING MY WIFE DROVE OUR 2008 DODGE NITRO TO TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO HER HIGH SCHOOL (5 MILES FROM OUR HOME). AFTER DROPPING MY DAUGHTER OFF AND STARTING BACK HOME THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING UNDER THE HOOD WHILE STILL MOVING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT OF THE HIGH SCHOOL. I QUICKLY TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND GOT OUT. VERY QUICKLY THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS. ALL SERVICE FOR THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN ANY KIND OF CRASH NOR DID IT HAVE ANY MAJOR MECHANICAL WORK PERFORMED ON IT PRIOR TO IT BURSTING INTO FLAMES. I BELIEVE THE HIGH SCHOOL MAY HAVE VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT AS THE PARKING LOT IS MONITORED VIA CCTV CAMERAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO LIMP MODE AND THE REAR WHEELS SEIZED. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY; HOWEVER, WHEN HE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED VARIOUS ELECTRICAL FAILURES WHICH CAUSED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO INVOLUNTARILY TURN ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT END OF HER VEHICLE. THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT SECURE THE OCCUPANTS AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ONE OF THE OCCUPANTS SPINE WAS KNOCKED OUT OF THE ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY, AND THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT DEFECTIVE. TWO ENGINEERS WERE SENT TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THEY CONCLUDED THAT ALL COMPONENTS WERE FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 31000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD FLASH, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD COME ON, AND THE HORN BEGAN BLOWING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ON OR OFF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER CHANGED THE FUSE IN THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE FUSE CONNECTED TO THE HORN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE SINCE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
AFTER OWNING MY BRAND NEW 2008 DODGE NITRO FOR 14 MONTHS, EVERY TIME I FUELED IT, THE GAS WOULD SPEW OUT, WAY AFTER THE PUMP CLICKS OFF. I HAVE BEEN COVERED IN GASOLINE 3 TIMES AND 2 SERVCIE MEN HAVE BEEN AS WELL. I HAVE A 2 Y/O ASTHMATIC DAUGHTER. THE ODOR OF GAS ENGULFS THE INTERIOR COMPARTMENT AS WELL WHEN THE OVERFLOW OCCURS. I HAVE BEEN REFUSED LOANERS EACH TIME THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! BUT I HAD BEEN TOLD TIME AND TIME AGAIN, DODGE DID NOT FEEL IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. LAST WEEK MY WHOLE TANK WAS FINALLY REPLACED AFTER THE 1ST REPAIR DIDNT WORK. GASED UP TODAY AND GAS BACK OUT ALL OVER MY TRUCK. AS WELL AS THE GAS SPEWING OUT COVERING ANYONE OR ANYTHING IN ITS WAY, MY TRUCKS PAINT IS BECOMING DAMAGED AS WELL. *CN
WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 NITRO ON THE FREEWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON - SOLID, NOT FLASHING. I MADE A COMMENT TO MY WIFE ABOUT TAKING IT IN THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER, THE CAR STALLED AND I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER GOT OUT AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. BY THE TIME TRAFFIC CLEARED ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, THERE WERE FLAMES COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR BECAME FULLY ENGULFED WITHIN MINUTES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE FRONT TIRES EXPLODED, THE RIMS MELTED, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY BURNT. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO CHRYSLER WHO INVESTIGATED AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE ONLY MAINTENANCE I HAD PERFORMED WAS TO GET THE OIL CHANGED 3 WEEK PRIOR AT A QUICK-CHANGE TYPE COMPANY. THE CAR HAD 31,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE NITRO. HE STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING OVER 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD DOWN-SHIFT AND THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD LOCK. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY RESUME NORMAL OPERATION WHEN THE BATTERY WAS ADJUSTED OR RECONNECTED. THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 23,068.
MY 2008 DODGE NITRO, WHILE DRIVING ON HWY, 60-65 MPH, OUT OF NOWHERE THE VEHICLE POWERS DOWN. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS SPRAY OUT FLUID AND MOVES BACK AND FORWARD. THE HORN CONTINUES TO MAKE NOISE. MY SATELLITE RADIO HAS NO SIGNAL. MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW BUTTON HAS SOME KIND OF SHORT WHEN TRYING TO ROLL IT UP.THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE TRUCK. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. AT FIRST DODGE CHAPMAN IN VEGAS, THEY THOUGHT REPROGRAMMING THE REMOTE KEY. THEN I PAID OVER $600,TO LITHIA DODGE IN RENTON, WA BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING WITH THE FUEL TANK. BUT NO THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO GO. IT IS BEGINNING TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE SHUTTING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS AND ME IN THE CAR. SO I GOOGLE IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND YES IT APPEARS PROBLEM HAS ARISED AND IT LIES WITH THE TIPM. THIS PRODUCT WAS RECALL ON THE 2007 DODGE NITRO. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP 7/18/12. TOLD THEM WHAT TO CHECK, BECAUSE I BROUGHT THE TRUCK THERE BEFORE AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE TIPM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED ME TODAY 7/20/12 AND TELLS ME YES, IT IS THE TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). PLEASE HELP. I CALLED DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THIS, BUT STATES THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE WITH THE YEAR OF MY VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE IN 2009. THE CONTACT RECENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CARSON DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (3059 S CARSON ST, CARSON CITY, NV 89701) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT SHE HAD TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SHE DECLINED TO PAY THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.
THE CHROME ACCENT PIECE ON THE REAR HATCH OF THE DODGE NITRO (JUST UNDER THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER) IS A LARGE HIGHLY REFLECTIVE SURFACE AREA THAT IS LOCATED AT EYE LEVEL FOR MOST DRIVES FOLLOWING THESE VEHICLES. THE SURFACE REFLECTION FROM THIS 'MIRROR LIKE' PIECE BLINDS THE DRIVES FOLLOWING THESE VEHICLES CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS STUCK IN TRAFFIC FOLLOWING THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND DESPITE MY BEST EFFORTS TO SHIELD MY EYES FROM THE REFLECTION WAS BLINDED TO THE POINT THAT I HAD TO PULL OVER TO ALLOW MY EYES TIME RECOVER (THE EFFECT WAS SIMILAR TO THAT OF STARRING AT A WELDING ARC). A SIMPLE DESIGN CHANGE BY THE MANUFACTURE COULD ELIMINATE THIS HAZARD. *TR
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK, THE HOSE CLICKS TO SAY IT IS FULL, EVERTIME I PULL OUT GAS HOSE, GAS SPILLS EVERYWHERE, OVER VEHICLE AND WHEELS AND GAS STATION FLOOR. THIS HAPPENS WITH NO 'TOPPING OFF' OF GAS. *JS
SUNROOF OF 2008 DODGE NITRO SXT LEAKS AFTER IT RAINS. THE PROBLEM STARTED ONE MONTH AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (MARCH 2009). DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND SOURCE OF THE LEAK ON FIRST OCCURENCE SO SUNROOF GLASS WAS ADJUSTED. SECOND OCCURENCE WAS IN APRIL OF 2009. LEAK WAS FINALLY DISCOVERED BY DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ALL COMPONENTS DEALING WITH THE SUNROOF WAS "REPLACED". THIRD OCCURENCE OF SAME PROBLEM OCCURED IN EARLY JANUARY 2010. WATER THAT LEAKS INTO THE VEHICLE NOT ONLY WILL EVENTUALLY RUIN THE INTERIOR BUT THE WATER LEAKS IN AROUND A SET OF MAP LIGHTS LOCATED JUST ABOVE THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THIS COMBINATION OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY COULD RESULT IN SOMEONE BEING ELECTROCUTED OR THE VEHICLE CATCHING ON FIRE AS A RESULT OF A SHORTAGE. *CN
INADEQUATE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS. WHEN THE HIGH BEAMS ARE SELECTED, THE ROADWAY ACTUALLY BECOMES DARKER. THIS VEHICLE UTILIZES A SINGLE HEADLIGHT ASSY ON EACH SIDE CONSISTING OF AN H13 HIGH/LOW BEAM LAMP. SINGLE BEAM HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS HAVE TRADITIONALLY POWERED BOTH THE HIGH AND LOW BEAM FILAMENTS WHEN THE HIGH BEAM MODE IS SELECTED AND WHEN LOW BEAM MODE IS SELECTED ONLY THE LOW BEAM FILAMENT IS POWERED. WHEN HIGH BEAM IS SELECTED IN THIS VEHICLE, BOTH FILAMENTS ARE ENABLE BRIEFLY DURING THE TRANSITION FROM LOW TO HIGH. DURING THIS TRANSITION PERIOD THE LIGHT INTENSITY IS AT THE LEVEL ONE WOULD EXPECT TO SEE WHEN HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ARE SELECTED. HOWEVER THIS IDEAL ILLUMINATION IS SHORT LIVED BECAUSE IMMEDIATELY THE LOW BEAM FILAMENT IS EXTINGUISHED LEAVING ONLY THE HIGH BEAM FILAMENT TO LIGHT THE WAY AND IT SIMPLY IS NOT SUFFICIENT. ON A DARK ROAD ACCEPTABLE LIGHTING CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED WITH THE COMBINATION OF LOW BEAM LIGHTING AND FOG LAMPS. I CARRIED MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE LIGHTS WERE OPERATING PROPERLY AND THAT THIS IS THE WAY THAT CHRYSLER VEHICLE LIGHTING SYSTEMS OPERATE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN JUNE 2008 AND AFTER A ROAD TRIP IN JAN 2009, I REALIZED THAT THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM ON THIS VEHICLE IS WOEFULLY INADEQUATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V525000 (PARKING BRAKE) REPAIRS WERE MADE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AS A RESULT OF THE PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE AND THE SECOND TIME, THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER HIM AND CRASHED INTO A DOOR. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AS A RESULT. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LEVER WAS NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DECIDED TO SEND AN INVESTIGATOR TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE BUT DID NOT OFFERED ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,882.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CHARCOAL AND FUEL CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE FUEL REACHED EMPTY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCEPT FUEL AND IT HAD TO BE FORCED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
I PURCHASED THE NITRO IN OCT. 08, EVER SINCE THEN, WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK IT WOULD EXPLODE OUT OF THE TANK, AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE GAS PUMPS, BUT JUST DECIDED IT WAS THE CAR AT FAULT, BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN TO GET GAS, SO I CALLED DODGE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS AND THERE WERE NOT ANY RECALLS ,SO THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. SO MY POINT IS, DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE FOR A DEFECTIVE GAS TANK. ALSO I FOUND PAGES OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET.. SO PLEASE I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX THE ISSUE MYSELF.

THIS WOULD HAPPEN ALL THE TIME UNTIL I HAD ENOUGH OF IT AND ON FEB. 2014 I TOOK IT TO D DODGE DEALER WHO TOLD ME IT WAS A WRONG PART NUMBER AND REPLACED MY FUEL TANK NO CHARGE EVEN THOUGH MY WARRANTY WAS USED UP. AFTER I GOT IT HOME AND A FEW DAYS LATTER IT WAS TIME TO FILL IT UP AND I DID SO. NOW GAS IS FLOWING FROM THE TANK FROM AN UNKNOWN PLACE TO ME WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY EITHER SLOWED WITH FRONT OF VEHICLE HIGH OR REAR OF VEHICLE SLOWED HIGH OR ON LEVEL GROUND WITH VEHICLES RIGHT SIDE HIGHER THAT THE LEFT BY EVEN THE SMALLEST AMOUNT. NOW I MUST BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE UNTIL THEY FIX A PROBLEM THAT IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS THAT IT WAS BEFORE I TOOK IT TO THEM TO BE FIXED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND COULD PUT MY FAMILY AT RISK. DRIVING THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK, AND NEXT THING I KNOW MY VEHICLE'S FRONT PASSENGER SIDE HAS DROPPED DOWN CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL COLLIDING INTO A PARKED CAR. CHRYSLER DENIES RESPONSIBILITY AND NO LAWYER WANTS TO FIGHT CHRYSLER. I AM NOT PUTTING MY FAMILY'S LIFE IN JEOPARDY WITH THAT CAR. ON 2/18/08 I LEASED A 2008 DODGE NITRO AT CRESTWOOD DODGE. ON 3/31/08 MY WIFE ROUTINELY STARTED THE NITRO, PUT HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE (AND NOT THE GAS) AND ENGAGED THE GEAR FROM PARK TO REVERSE. WITHIN A SPLIT SECOND, THE CAR MADE AN UNUSUALLY LOUD NOISE AND THE CAR BURSTED BACKWARD TAKING OUT THE RIGHT SIDE OF OUR GATE AND A PORTION OF THE FENCE ADJACENT TO THE GATE. THIS TOOK HER BY SURPRISE. SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE BUT THE BRAKE WAS NOT ABLE TO ENGAGE AS THE TRANSMISSION HAD TORQUED THE ENGINE SO HARD THAT IT FORCED HER INTO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND THE REAR BUMPER RAMMED INTO A BRICK PILLAR SUPPORTING THE ROOF OF THE FRONT PORCH AND DAMAGED THE CAR. THE IMPACT OF HITTING THE HOUSE AND THE PILLAR EVENTUALLY STOPPED THE MOMENTUM OF THE NITRO. I CALLED THE SERVICE MGR AT CRESTWOOD TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY KNOWN RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONING ON THE NITRO. HE TOLD ME NO. I ASKED HIM FOR ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO. HE REFERRED ME TO THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CLAIMS RESOLUTION GROUP. (CCCRG) I FILED A CLAIM WITH THIS CCCRG. THEN WE RECEIVED A FORM LETTER FROM THEM STATING THAT THEY WILL SEND AN INVESTIGATOR TO SEE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE NITRO. CCCRG INFORMED US THAT AN INVESTIGATION WAS PERFORMED AT DEARBORN COLLISION AND THAT WE WILL RECEIVE AN ANSWER. THEY REFERRED ME TO THE CASE MGR. ON 4/9/08 WE RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THE INSPECTOR FOUND NO INDICATION OF A MALFUNCTIONING DEFECT. I SPOKE BRIEFLY WITH DEARBORN COLLISION AND ASKED ABOUT THIS INVESTIGATION. THEY STATED THAT THE INVESTIGATOR HARDLY LOOKED AT ANYTHING. NEVER EVEN STARTED THE CAR AND THAT HE WERE IN AND OUT WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. ON 4/10/08 I SPOKE TO THE CASE MANAGER AND DISCUSSED HOW WE CAN JUST GET A NEW LEASE. HE ADVISED ME THAT IF I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ARRANGE A MEETING WITH THE DISTRICT MGR THAT GOVERNS CRESTWOOD DODGE. *TR
