The Gear Shift Module is failing. It does not change gears from park to reverse or drive saying "gear unavailable". Service engine lite comes on and the red transmission symbol appears. I feel unsafe driving when this happens. I took it to a friend who is a mechanics and his diagnostic tool showed "P1CB1 gear shift activator 1 engage failure". This problem occurs with other customers complaints with this Fiat 500L model. I have to go to dealer and get this problem corrected because it is not safe to drive with the gears shift unresponding. I can image the bill I will be face with after all this.
The contact owns a 2014 Fiat 500L. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously involved in a recall for the gear shifter module in 2014 that was completed. Since the repair was performed, the contact stated that while parked or are attempting to park the vehicle, the vehicle failed to shift from reverse to drive. A warning light displaying that the gear was unavailable was displayed. The contact stated while attempting to place the vehicle in drive, the vehicle was instead shifted to reverse. The failure occurred randomly and at various speeds. The contact contacted the dealer who stated that they may have an issue with the gear shifter module had yet to set an appointment for official diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Recalls T19/NHTSA 17V-192 and P06/NHTSA 14V-103 I have taken mt Fiat 500L to Crown Fiat Dublin ohio for the same things that the above recalls show. I have looked on line and it showes that the recalls have been done, but I am still having the same problem with the vehicle. What should I do now if they can not remedy this problem. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
FIRST, I HAVE LOVED THIS CAR - EXCEPT: RIGHT NOW I HAVE 22,315 MILES ON MY 2014 FIAT 500L. THERE IS A DEFINITE STEERING PROBLEM THAT IS INTERMITTENT BUT EVERY TIME IT REOCCURS IT'S WORSE. TODAY I HAD DIFFICULTY KEEPING THE CAR IN THE LANE AND WHEN I GOT HOME FELT AS THOUGH I'D BEEN DRIVING A TRUCK! THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN IT WAS NEW AND I COULD DRIVE FOR 5-6 HOURS ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO ISSUES. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ONCE AND WAS TOLD THAT'S THE WAY THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO DRIVE. THAT WAS ON 2/20/18 WITH 10,966 MILES. SPEED DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER. MY HUSBAND AND I THINK THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BECAUSE THEY DRIFT OUT OF THEIR LANE.
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM MANHATTAN ALFA ROMEO FIAT IN DEC 2017. IT HAD 17000 MILES AND I PURCHASED AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH ZURICH FOR POWER TAIN FROM MANHATTAN FIAT. THE CAR HAD 1 RECALLS FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES ON IN MARCH 2014 AND ONE IN MARCH 2017. THE CAR NOW NEEDS A COMPLETE NEW TRANSMISSION AND IT ONLY HAS 52457 MILES. THE REPAIR IS OVER $7000. THE WARRANTY IS CLAIMING THAT IT WILL NOT COVER THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT IS OUTSIDE PARTS OF THE TRANSMISSION -HYDRALLIC SUPPLY UNIT BUT THE PART CAN ONLY BE REPLACED AS A WHOLE UNIT. I CALLED CHRYSLER/FIAT HEADQUARTERS AND THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. THE CAR HAS HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES FROM WHEN IT WAS MADE. ALL THE RECALLS AND ISSUES WITH THE CAR THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP ME. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOT COVERING THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR BECAUSE THEY DEEM IT AN OUTSIDE PART WHEN IT IS PART OF THE TRANSMISSION. WHO CAN A CONSUMER TURN TO. THIS IS FRAUD.
WHILE DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STATE "CHECK TRANSMISSION" AND "MANUAL TRANSMISSION UNAVAILABLE" THEN THE AUTO SHIFTER FOR GEARS WILL START SHIFTING REALLY ROUGH OR NOT AT ALL. ONCE YOU TURN OFF THE VEHICLE IT WILL NOT START AGAIN UNLESS PUT ON A BATTERY CHARGER, AS IT'S STUCK IN 1ST GEAR (PER THE SHOP). TOOK IT TO A SHOP, THEY STATED IT APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO THE FIRST RECALL THAT I HAD COMPLETED AND THE DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING SINCE RECALL ALREADY DONE.

I WENT TO GO MOVE MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T GO INTO REVERSE AFTER SEVERAL TRIES THEN EVENTUALLY IT JUST WENT INTO REVERSE AND WAS OKAY. THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING BUT WOULDN'T GO INTO DRIVE.
I BROUGHT MY 2014 500L TO FIAT DEALER TO TAKE CARE OF THE RECALLS REGARDING THE SHIFTING AND ENGINE IDLE SPEED. BEFORE I BROUGHT THEIR IT WAS RUNNING FINE. I GOT IT BACK THE SAME DAY AND WHEN I RECEIVED IT GOT A REPORT THAT ALL WAS GOOD. NOW MY CAR IS ACTING UP. SOMETIMES I STEP ON ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENS THAT WAS AT MY HOME. ALSO WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE IT DOESN'T ENGAGE AND ON THE SCREEN IT TELLS ME TO PUT IN PARK THEN NEUTRAL AND THEN DRIVE THAT WAS AT MY SONS SCHOOL. SOME TIMES IT STILL DOESN'T WORK AND HAVE TO DO IT MULTIPLE TIMES. I BROUGHT IT BACK AND TOLD THEM THEIR SOFTWARE UPGRADE HAS MADE MY CAR WORSE THAN IT WAS. THEY EVALUATED IT AND THE SERVICE WRITER SAID HE WOULD NEED TO CHARGE ME 8HRS OF LABOR @ $185 AN HR. JUST TO EVALUATE THE PROBLEM. IT STILL THEIR AND WILL CALL FIAT DIRECTLY TO TRY TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE RECALL.

IN CERTAIN TEMPERATURES, MOVING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER MAY HAVE A DELAYED EFFECT OR NO EFFECT ON SELECTING A TRANSMISSION GEAR." HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM IS STILL UNRESOLVED. EVERY DAY WE FIRST START THE CAR, NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN WE PUT IT IN GEAR, AND WE GET AN ELECTRONIC STATEMENT THAT THE "GEAR IS UNAVAILABLE". VEHICLE SOMETIMES WILL NOT GO INTO DRIVE AFTER REVERSE. WILLMREVERSE OUT OF DRIVEWAY BUT CAR WON'T DRIVE FORWARD WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE GEAR. I THEN GE A MESSAGE TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TRY AGAIN. SOMETIMES THIS WORKS BUT SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T.
SPEED SLOW DOWN,
ON AUG 19TH MY CAR WENT IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO THE UNSAFE FAILURES OF ITEMS REPLACED DURING THE 2 RECALLS. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE GEAR SHIFT MODULE AND POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WERE BOTH RECALLED AND "FIXED". YET ON OCOTOBER 7TH 2020, I EXPERIENCED THE INABILITY TO SHIFT AND CONTROL THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTION. I HAD UNINTENDED DIRECTIONAL MOVEMENT. I EXPERIENCED A DIMINISHED ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND TO MAINTAIN VEHICLE SPEED AS EXPECTED. I WAS ONLY GOING 20MPH-40MPH ON STREETS. THE CAR WAS SWITCHING GEARS ON ITS ON AND STALLING IN TRAFFIC. WHEN I WOULD PUSH ON GAS PEDDLE IT WAS ROLLING BACK WHILE ON AN INCLINE. WHAT WAS MOST ALARMING WAS THAT AS I TRIED TO GET THE CAR HOME IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS I PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE TO GET IT INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. OBVIOUSLY THE RECALLS IN BOTH 2014 & 2017 FAILED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN PER AUG 19TH'S SERVICE RECOMMENDATIONS, AVOIDING AGGRESSIVE HIGH SPEEDS AND WHEN IDLE PUT IN PARK TO AVOID OVER HEATING. I HAVE DRIVEN IT AN AVERAGE OF 18MILES A DAY SINCE LAST SERVICED. EVERYTHING I AM EXPERIENCING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ADDRESSED IN THE TWO RECALLS. UNSAFE CAR.

ALSO, A BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT AND THE WARNING MESSAGE "DUAL CLUTCH OVER HEATING" HAD DISPLAYED AND ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SURGE FORWARD AND EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER IILDERTON DODGE LOCATED AT 701 S MAIN ST, HIGH POINT, NC 27260 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND AT A STOP LIGHT. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY FLASHED AND SAID NOT IN GEAR. IT WAS IN DRIVE. IT SAID SWITCH TO NUETRAL. I DID AND BACK TO DRIVE. THE CAR WOULD BARELY GO. LEFT ME MOVING AT 15 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF 55 MPH TRAFFIC. THEN IT SEEMED TO WANT TO LUNGE FORWARD AT THE NEXT RED LIGHT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AND THE FIAT DEALER SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS. HOWEVER I COULD HAVE LOST MY LIFE. I WAS ALMOST STRUCK TWICE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SMOKE WOULD APPEAR INTERMITTENTLY AND USUALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF HIS WIFE AND CHILD BECAUSE THE SMOKE WOULD MAKE WAY INTO THE CABIN WITH A BURNING ORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ORANGE COAST CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM FIAT, 2929 HARBOR BLVD, COSTA MESA, CA 92626, AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DUAL CLUTCH BURNING UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES AND WANTED ANOTHER OPINION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
FROM THE MOMENT I BOUGHT THIS CAR, IT HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH ACCELERATION. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR MOVE SO SLOW WHEN YOU PRESS THE PEDAL. MY CAR HAS 77000 MILES AND NOW I AM TOLD MY TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING FLUID AND THE REPAIR WILL BE $4400. IT HAS NOT BEEN DRIVING ANY WORSE THAN IT ALWAYS HAS. IT SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS. CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS? THE CLOSEST FIAT DEALERSHIP IS 30 MILES AWAY. SERVICE IS ONLY OPEN UNTIL 5 M-F WITH NO SERVICE ON WEEKENDS. THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE CUZ WHEN I PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN HIT SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE THE CAR WONT ACCELERATE. THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS HAD A BIG PROBLEM ACCELORATING
I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 75MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN TUCSON, ARIZONA. SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN. THE DASH DISPLAYED (! MANUAL UNAVAILABLE) THE CAR BEGAN TO JUMP FROM PARK, NEUTRAL, D2 AND D6 UNTIL THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT TOOK THREE OF US TO PUSH THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY. PRIOR TO THIS I HAVE NOTICED THAT OVER THE PAST MONTH WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. THEN IT SUDDENLY STARTS GOING. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WITH REGARDS TO MY CAR.

AT THE NEXT TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHILE IN D, THE COMPUTER SCREEN ADVISED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO R OR D. THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE DRIVING THE PANEL LIGHT WAS, INSTEAD OF SHOWING D, SHOWING EACH GEAR SUCH AS D1, D2 ETC.
UNABLE TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION CAUSING RAPID BATTERY DRAIN WHILE PARKED.
THIS MORNING I GOT INTO THE CAR EVEN TRIED TO PUT IT INTO DRIVE BUT IT SAID SHIFT BACK TO NEUTRAL THEN TO REVERSE OR FORWARD. I TRIED JUST LIKE IT SAID AND IT STILL CONTINUED THROW THE ERROR. AFTER LIKE THREE OR FOUR TIMES IT SKIPPED FIRST GEAR AND SHIFTED TO SECOND GEAR BUT THE CAR JERKED AS SOON AS I STEPPED ON THE PEDAL. I TURNED IT OFF FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND THEN TRY IT AGAIN AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME I PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND ACTUALLY WENT IN REVERSE, THEN IT ALLOWED ME TO GO INTO FIRST GEAR. I CHECKED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE AND IT THREW A P1CB1 CODE WHICH INDICATED IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I'M TRYING TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP BUT FOR SOME REASON THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE AT THE ONLY ONE NEAR ME. BUT EVERYWHERE I'M LOOKING AND READING IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BUT CANNOT VERIFY UNTIL I GET TO THE DEALERSHIP.
THE FIAT 500L HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT. FOR THE PAST YEAR, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A MULTITUDE OF ISSUES REGARDING THE DRIVING ABILITY OF THIS VEHICLE. IN COLD OR HOT TEMPERATURES, THE CAR JERKS WHEN IN DRIVE. LATELY, IT STALLS AT STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS WHILE IDLING. IT THEN, WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS ENGAGED. WE BROUGHT THIS TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THERE ARE MANY ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THEY WILL NEED TO PULL THE TRANSMISSION OUT (MIN. OF $1000) AND LOOK FURTHER TO SEE WHAT ISSUES THEY WILL NEED TO TAKE CARE OF. POSSIBLE WORST CASE SCENARIO WILL BE $6000 TO FIX A CAR THAT IS NOT FOR MORE THAN $5000. A YEAR AGO, WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR $10000. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, BUT OF COURSE THE WARRANTY ON THAT RECALL EXPIRED. I DON'T BELIEVE A VEHICLE THAT IS SIX YEARS OLD, LESS THAN 50,000 MILES SHOULD HAVE A TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR
I ALONG WITH MANY OTHER 2014 FIAT 500L HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. OUR OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS NOT READING CORRECTLY WHICH 100% AFFECTS THE HEATING AND COOLING. THE TEMPERATURE ALWAYS READS 30 DEGREES COLDER THEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE REALLY IS. SO MY AC WON'T RUN COLD ON A 90 DEGREE TEMPERATURE DAY (LIKE TODAY). BECAUSE THE CAR THINKS IT IS 60 DEGREES OUTSIDE. IT WILL ACTUALLY ONLY BLOW WARM AIR ON AN 80 DEGREE DAY BECAUSE THE TEMP SHOWS THAT IT IS 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE. HOW DOES THIS GET FIXED WHEN WE CAN NOT PURCHASE THE PART NEEDED. OTHERS BOUGHT THE WHOLE NEW DRIVERS SIDE MIRROR THAT HOUSES THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAT IT 'THE PROBLEM'. AND WITHIN MONTHS, THIS SENSOR DOES THE SAME THING AND STARTS READING THE WRONG TEMPERATURE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED. THE TEMPERATURE IS READING WRONG 100 PERCENT OF THE TIME. WEATHER MOVING OR STATIONARY. OR PARKED IN THE GARAGE OR OUTSIDE.
When pressing on accelerator, it would not accelerate properly. Therefore having to press accelerator more while not going at accurate speed. Furthermore as driving the vehicle one day fully pressing on accelerator vehicle would not accelerate. Therefore, having to stop in the middle of the road going uphill.
THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT STARED TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING . WHEN I WAS DRIVING I STOPED AT THE LIGHT AND THEN IT DIDN'T WANT TO MOVE AND THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT TURNED ON, AND I DROVE AWAY SLOWLY TILL I GOT HOME .
2014 FIAT 500 L: THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO THE PROPER GEAR. TURNING ON THE CAR AND PLACING IN D OR R THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND WOULD NOT MOVE. AFTER RETRYING MULTIPLE TIMES THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY GO INTO DRIVE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, "SWITCH TO NEUTRAL THEN TO DRIVE" APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WAITING TO GET APPOINTMENT AT DEALERSHIP.
POWERTRAIN. IT GET BLOCKED IN P, DOESN'T GO R, AND, JUST ON SOME SELECTIVE D... IT SAYS THAT YOU HAVE FIRST TO PUT TO N. IT SUDDENLY GOES FROM D2 TO D4 AND D6, NO D, NO D3, NO D5, NO REVERSE. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN, EVEN AFTER THE RECALLS MADE. IT STILL HAS ISSUES, FIXED ALREADY ONE TIME, AGAIN, IT GOT ISSUES. BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR PART OF RIGHT OUTSIDE MIRROR . MIRROR WITH SENSOR REPLACED, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. COST OF MIRROR AND LABOR TO REPLACE WAS $589. COULDN'T JUST REPLACE SENSO. COMPUTER MESSAGE APPEARS EACH TIME THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE GAGE GOES BLANK AND MANY TIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. SOMETIMES LIGHT WILL GO OFF WHEN AMBIENT TEMP SHOWS UP AGAIN. MANY TIMES THE AMBIENT TEMP GAGE WILL GO HAYWIRE AND SHOW WRONG TEMP, SUCH AS 32 WHEN IS 60 OUTSIDE.

LAST MONTH, THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION LIKE IT WAS NOT EVEN IN GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND A FAULTY TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WAS TO BLAME FOR THIS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND A RECALL ON THE TCM FROM 2014, STATING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND THAT THEY WERE REPROGRAMMED/REPLACED AT THE MANUFACTURER'S DISCRETION. I DO NOT BELIEVE A RECALLED PART SHOULD BE HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEM AS IT DID 5 YEARS LATER. MY WIFE AND I ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW CAR AND FIAT IS ON OUR LIST, BUT IF I CAN ONLY EXPECT A 5 YEAR SHELF-LIFE ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, WE MAY HAVE TO RECONSIDER. LAST WINTER IN COLD WEATHER, IT STARTED SLIPPING INTO "LIMP MODE" WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ON ROUTE 42 WHERE ALL I COULD DO WAS PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR (BUT NO ERROR MESSAGE THAT THE MECHANIC COULD ADDRESS). ON 9/30/19 I TOOK IT TO THE FIAT DEALER IN MAPLE SHADE, NJ, WHERE THEY TOLD ME AT 35,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE (P1CB1 GEAR SHIFT ACTUATOR FAILURE) AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. BUT WHEN THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER GOT THERE HE COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUES SO THEY WOULD NOT COVER A NEW TRANSMISSION. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MONTHS LATER (LAST WEEK), WHILE SITTING IN A TRAFFIC JAM FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES, I BEGAN SMELLING A BURNING SMELL. SHORTLY AFTER, WHILE INCHING FORWARD, THE CAR JUMPED; ALMOST FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. ABOUT FIVE - TEN MINUTES LATER, A MESSAGE DISPLAYED SAYING TO PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL THEN BACK INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. I DID THIS AND THEN ALARMS STARTED DINGING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON.
