TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FIAT 500L. WHILE DRIVING 8 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED ON ITS OWN. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE POWERED DOWN AND MADE AN ABNORMAL REVVING SOUND. THE ENGINE POWERED DOWN IN REVERSE AS WELL AND THE POWER TRAIN WANING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HENDRICKS CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP FIAT OF CONCORD (7630 HENDRICK AUTO PLAZA NW, CONCORD, NC 28027, (704) 467-8270) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT NEW GEARS NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY OUT OF PARK. WOULD NEED TO WAIT AND SHIFT THROUGH GEARS AND WAIT TO HEAR GEAR ENGAGE. SOMETIMES I HAD TO DO THIS MANY TIMES BEFORE IT FOUND THE GEAR. THIS HAPPENED BOTH FOR REVERSE AND DRIVE. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT TIMES WHEN NEEDED. IT WOULD REV REALLY HIGH BUT NOT CHANGE GEARS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON FREEWAY. EVENTUALLY THIS WOULD ALSO OCCUR ON REGULAR STREET DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FIAT 500L. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS ALERTED TO SMOKE AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CALLED AAA AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOTEL. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO FIAT OF SAN DIEGO (858-492-9200, LOCATED AT 5135 CONVOY ST, SAN DIEGO, CA 92111) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH AND THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION PRIOR TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V192000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,229.
TRANSMISSION FAULT, FREQUENTLY WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD OR REVERSE, HAVE TO JOGLE THE GEAR LEVER AND THEN IT DOES MOVE, TOOK IT TO PALMETTO FIAT, THEY SIAD THEY TRIED A NEW CONTROL MODULE, BUT DID THE SAME FAULT, WAS ALSO TOLD BY THEM THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT FAULT ON THIS MODEL THAT WAS MADE IN VIETNAM OR SOMEWHERE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT IF THE CAR GOES INTO LESS POWER MODE ON THE HIGHWAY . I WOULD LIKE TO REMEDY THIS AS MY WIFE LOVES THE CAR, IT HAS 51,000 MILES UNFORTUNATELY AND TO BE CHARGES NEARLY $6,000 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION IS NOT CORRECT, PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW YOU CAN HELP US, AS THIS CAR HAS HAS VARIOUS RECALLS FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS.
RAKATA RECALL,I HAVE PROBLEMS WHIT MY CAR WHEN I LOST MY BATTERY OUT OF CHARGE WHEN I WAS RUNNING ,SO I PUT CHARGE WHIT A SMART CHARGER AND BY MY SURPRISE THE CAR DON'T START I GO TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER SAYS THAT I BURNED THE COMPUTER BUT IT'S NOT TRUE I DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING SO ANYWAYS I HAVE 28000 MILES IN 3 YEARS OLD CAR AND THE COMPANY DON'T WANT TO REPAIR BECAUSE THEY DON'T SO I NEED TO PAY + 1200 TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE CAR THAT I KNOW HAVE WARRANTY.
CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE PROBLEMS 3/2/15 CAR STALLED MONTHS FOLLOWING PURCHASE OF THE CAR NEW TOLD IT WAS A ISSUE WITH THE COLD TEMPS AND BATTERY WAS NOT SWAPPED UPON ARRIVAL IN US. MONTHS LATER 11/17/15 THE CALL BEGAN TO STALL AGAIN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND TOLD A RECALL WAS ISSUED AND HE CAR NEEDED TO BE UPDATED AND IT WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE. CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO STALL 12/17/15 AND BACK IN THE SHOP DID NOT IDENTIFY ISSUE UNTIL 12/26/15 AND TOLD THE ISSUE WAS CONTROL MODULE 9/9/17 CAR STARTED TO STALL AGAIN DID NOT IDENTIFY ISSUE. 10/26/17 STALLING AGAIN DID NOT IDENTIFY ISSUE BE BELIEVE DEALER HAD RECALL. DECEMBER 2018 CALL STALLING ISSUES OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY AND IN JANUARY CODE STATED CONTROL MODULE WAS FAILING AGAIN. 6/1/2018 COMPLAINED TO FIAT ABOUT INEXPERIENCED SERVICE TECHS. 11/2/18 CAR BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR SERVICE, ROTATION AND INSPECTION CHECKS. 12/7/18 CAR IS NOT DRIVING PROPERLY LEARNED TODAY ONE BRAKE PAD OF ALL INSTALLED WORN DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE OTHERS ARE AT 10. VERY CONCERN WITH ONLY 26K MILES ON CAR FIAT LACK OF RESPONSE TO CONSUMER TO RESOLVE THE CAR CONCERNS. SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME THE TECH DECIDED THE TIRES DID NOT ROTATE TIRES WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE INSPECTION TO BE OVERLOOKED. VERY CONCERN CONSUMERS PAY FOR ADDITIONAL SERVICE FIAT DOES NOT PERFORM AND BRAKE ISSUE COULD HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AND NOW 6 DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY. CONSUMER FOOT THE BILL.
CLUTCH PEDAL STICKING IN DEPRESSED POSITION, PREVENTING ENGAGEMENT OF GEARS.
The contact owns a 2014 Fiat 500L. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was making an abnormal clunking sound. The contact smelled a burning odor and saw black smoke inside the vehicle. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a gear was damaged. The part was replaced; however, while driving at 70 MPH, the transmission warning light illuminated and a message indicating to shift into neutral(N), then drive(D) was displayed. The vehicle started decelerating independently. The contact stated that as she shifted into neutral(N) and then into drive(D), the vehicle responded as needed. However, the failure had been reoccurring while driving and coming to a stop. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys where it was diagnosed that the oil temperature sensors had failed. The vehicle was then taken to the Chrysler dealer who informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure and they could not service the vehicle as they did not have equipment for Fiat vehicles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON A CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY, GOING A NORMAL MPH (USUALLY AROUND 40), WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE THE CAR LITERALLY WILL JERK TWO OR THREE TIMES BEFORE IT GETS TO ACCELERATING. THE JERKING INVOLVES GOING FORWARD AND BACKWARDS AT LEAST TWO OR THREE TIMES.
TRANSMISSION SEIZED, CLUTCH SMELLED BURNT AND BEGAN TO SMOKE WHICH STALLED THE ENGINE. THE GEARS DISABLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED WHEN THIS HAPPENED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE CAR'S RESPONSE WAS "NORMAL" I TOOK MY CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE CAR AND READ THE COMPUTER CODES. THE CODES THAT DISPLAYED ARE C415H-50197. DEALER CLAIMS THAT CODE IS NON-EXISTENT.
FRUSTRATION IS THE ONLY WORD CAN DESCRIBE THIS HORRIBLE CAR FIAT 500L SINCE I BOUGHT THAT CAR IS BEEN TOLL SO MANY TIMES TO FIAT DEALER SERVICE. WHEN WAS UNDER GUARANTEE, FIAT SERVICE ALWAYS SAID "IT IS NOTHING", "NOT PROBLEM", "NOW IS WORKING FINE". EVEN WHEN THE CAR STOPPED ON THE STREET WITH SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE. NOW WHEN THE GUARANTEE EXPIRED 4 MONTHS AGO: THE CAR NEEDS "NEW MOTOR STARTER", THEY CHANGED ($1600 PLUS $300 RENTAL CAR FOR 21 DAYS). BUT ONCE THE CAR HAS THE NEW MOTOR STARTER. SURPRISE!!! THE PROBLEM IS ALSO THE ENGINE!!! NOT POWER AT ALL. NOTHING!!!! NEEDS A NEW MOTOR FOR CAR THAT NOW HIS PRICE IS ONLY $6,000!!! SO BASICALLY FIAT JUST RIPPED ME SELLING A DEFECTIVE CAR!!!! THE ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE!!! NOW I'M GOING TO MOVE THE CAR TO MY HOUSE AND TRY TO SELL IT AS JUNK!
THE CAR HAS NO SUSPENSION AT ALL, THE STEERING IS NOT GOOD AT ALL AND THIS VEHICLE IS REGULARLY SERVICED AND MAINTAINED.

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND LATER TOOK IT TO CHAMPION FIAT (9715 FIRESTONE BLVD, DOWNEY, CA 90247, (562) 231-7579). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: FIAT 34917750. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,486.
ESC COMES ON AFTER STARTING AUTO, I BACK UP AND THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT TURN, IT IS LOCKED. NOT SAFE! DEALER SAYS MAY BE SHORT IN MODULE IN STEERING WHEEL. I LIVE IN DESERT, DRY AREA WHY A SHORT? THEY WANT $900 TO FIX A SAFETY ISSUE. I FEEL THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PAY. MY WARRANTY WILL NOT PAY. TURN ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON ESC GOES OUT AND I CAN DRIVE. SO FAR THIS HAS NOT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD.

IM GETTING A TURBO UNDERBOOST CODE FROM THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT'S A SOLID LIGHT NOT FLASHING. I DO NOT HAVE A GAS CAP & IVE ALREADY HAD A SMOKE REST WHICH REVEALED NO LEAKS. I STARTED PUTTING PREMIUM GAS & THE LIGHT WENT OFF & WAS BACK TO PEAK DRIVING PERFORMANCE BUT RECENTLY IT CAME ON AGAIN WITH SAME CODE & IT'S DRIVING LIKE AN OLD LADY NOW
WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE SUNROOF. AS THE SUNSCREEN CLOSED THERE WAS A TERRIBLE RIPPING SOUND AS THE SUNCLSCREEN PULLED LOOSE FROM THE BACK AND DRAPED INTO MY VIEW.
WHILE AT STOP LIGHT WAITING FOR GREEN LIGHT TO PROCEED, THE CAR AT 1ST YEAR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT SHIFT FAST ENOUGH CAUSING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME TO HUNK, I PULLED OVER TURN CAR OFF TURNED CAR BACK ON SAYING A SHOE CONTINUED ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WARNING LIGHT FOR TRANSMISSION, MADE IT HOME. NEXT MORNING CAR SEEMED TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. SOMETIME LATER ENGINE LIGHT TURNED BACK ON TRANSMISSION LIGHT AS WELL AND PROCEEDED TO HAVE SAME ISSUE I WAS TAKING NOTES AND TOOK PICTURES WHEN THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON AND OFF. ALSO AIRBAG LIGHT SUDDENLY CAME ON A WEEKS PRIOR. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 46000 MILES ON IT IT SEEMS TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION I HAD JUST PURCHASED IT FROM A DEALER FOR MONTHS AGO. I STARTED GOOGLE LEAN THE ISSUE AND FOUND OUT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE POWER TRANS AND AIRBAG AS WELL. CALL FIAHED DEALER AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $175 JUST TO LOOK AT THE CAR. THIS ISSUE IS SOMETHING THAT WAS A RECALL THEREFORE I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY SAID WAS COMPLETED IT IS HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I NEED HELP THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME I DON'T THINK IT'S RIGHT BECAUSE THE LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF AT DIFFERENT TIMES WHEN THE LIGHT IS OFF THE CAR RUNS NORMAL WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS ON THE CAR HAS AN ISSUE HOW CAN I DETECT WHEN THE LIGHT WILL TURN ON OR OFF AND GET CHARGED IN THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TELL IF THERE'S A PROBLEM OR NOT UNLESS THAT LIGHT IS ON I NEED HELP, THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I CAN GET INTO AN AUTO ACCIDENT IF THE GEAR SLOWS DOWN AND I CANNOT SHIFT AND GET BACK TO SPEED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED WITH ABOUT 24K MILES ON IT. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER I BOUGHT IT, I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE WAY IT DROVE. I KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL ON THIS MODEL BUT THE SERVICE DEPT. ALWAYS SAID THAT MY CAR WASN'T AFFECTED. SINCE 2015, I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT DRIVES. IT SHIFTS SLOW AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS "SLIPPING". FOR TWO YEARS I ENDURED THIS AND FINALLY TOOK IT IN LAST YEAR BECAUSE IT WAS BYPASSING GEARS ON THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT (STALLING IN FOURTH GEAR AND SKIPPING TO THE SIXTH GEAR). ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AGO, THE TRANSMISSION HAD FINALLY GONE BAD...NOT JUST SLOW SHIFTING, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE AND WAS STALLING OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, HIGHLY UNSAFE AND FRIGHTENING FOR MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF. THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED A TRANSMISSION "RE-LEARN" AND THE CAR RAN OK BUT THE ISSUES RETURNED AND THE CAR WON'T GO IN REVERSE. BEFORE THIS ISSUE, IT WOUDN'T ENGAGE IN 1ST GEAR. THIS CAUSED ANOTHER ISSUE BECAUSE THOUGH THE CAR WOULD START, IT WAS STALLED AND WOULDN'T TURN ON ONCE I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. THE MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAYS: "GEAR UNAVAILABLE" AND I CAN'T EVEN USE THE MANUAL SHIFTER. SINCE 2015, I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR IN FOR MAINTENANCE AND THEY HAVE CONTINUALLY TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THIS CAR. I HAVE ARGUED BACK AND FORTH WITH THEM AND I AM FINALLY TIRED OF BEING EITHER LIED TO OR MISTREATED. I HAVE RECORD OF ALL THE TIMES I CAME IN TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR. I TOOK THE CAR IN BECAUSE OF THE RECALL ON THE POWERTRAIN LAST MONTH AND THAT WORKED TO SOME RESOLUTION BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND I AGREED TO THE TRANSMISSION RE-LEARN. FIAT AGREES THAT SOME PARTS ON THIS CAR ARE INFERIOR, BUT NOT TO THE POINT THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE CAR OR TRANSMISSION.
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
MY CAR STARTED BEING SLOW TO CHANGE GEARS. TODAY, WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY I WANTED TO RUN AN ERRAND. I STARTED MY CAR BUT COULD NOT MOVE IT. IT IS STUCK IN PARK. I AM UNABLE TO SHIFT TO ANOTHER GEAR. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I AM DISABLED WITH A MOBILITY IMPAIRMENT, DIABETIC AND UNABLE TO GET TO HELP IF I NEED IT.
SITTING IDLE IN A LINE PUT THE CAR IN PARK WHILE IDLEING. LINE STARTED TO MOVE I TRIED TO SHIFT IT BACK INTO DRIVE AND STEPPED ON PEDAL TO MOVE FORWARD AND IT WOULDNT MOVE. IT WAS TOWED AND NOW IS SITTING AT A FIAT DEALER.THREE WEEKS AGO WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO A HIGHWAY THE CAR HESITATED AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN TOOK OFF.
I LIVE IN A MAJOR CITY WHERE TRAFFIC IS ALWAYS STOP AND GO. WHEN I AM DRIVING DURING A TIME OF HEAVY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC SMOKE STARTS TO COME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND SOMETIMES THAT SMOKE COMES FROM TURN LEFT AND THEN TURN RIGHT THE AIR VENTS IN THE CAR AND THERE IS A DISTINCT TOXIC AND PERVASIVE BURNING SMELL BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. THAT SMELL CONTINUES TO LINGER FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AT ALL. SEPARATELY WHEN THERE IS NO TRAFFIC AND I AM DRIVING AT A SET SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY OR A LONG STRETCH OF ROAD MY CAR WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE AND THE SPEED WILL NOT GO PAST 20 OR 30 MILES PER HOUR. THIS ONE'S HAPPENED ON A BRIDGE AND A FEW TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY.

THEN ANOTHER INCIDENT DRIVING IN TOWN ANOTHER WAS FLAT AFTER VISITING A FRIEND, HAD TO REPLACE $200 TO REPLACE . 3RD IN TOWN GOING 35. FLAT. MIDNIGHT A CALL TO EMERGENCY TIRE REPLACEMENT $200. THEN FOURTH WAS ON THE STREET GOING 25-30. BUMP CURB TURNING. THIS WAS NOT A HIGH SPEED OR HARD BUMP. TWO FLAT TIRES PASSENGER SIDE, AGAIN CALLED EMERGENCY TIRE SERVICE, CALLED AT NIGHT REPLACED TIRES $200.00-BUT THEN THE STEERING SEEMED WEIRD-$3,495.00 + $200 THE LAST 3 HAPPENED WITH IN A MONTH AND A HALF. THE STEERING HANGS OR STICKS. IT STARTED A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. I WAS TOLD IT DOES THAT. IT STARTED DOING THIS AROUND 50 TO 70 WHEN FIRST NOTICED AND NOW DOES IT AT ALL SPEEDS. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED IT WOULD COME AND GO AWAY SLIGHTLY BUT NEVER COMPLETELY. NOW IT IS ALL THE TIME AND ANY SPEED. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT MAKES THE VEHICLE STEER SLIGHTLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN THE LANE SINCE YOU CAN'T MAKE SLIGHT STEERING CORRECTIONS. WHEN TRYING TO MAKE STEERING CORRECTIONS THE STEERING WILL STICK OR HANG AND THEN RELEASE ABRUPTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE SLIGHTLY BACK AND FORTH IN THE LANE. AT TIMES IT IS BAD ENOUGH TO RESEMBLE A VERY DRUNK DRIVER OVER CORRECTING. IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT WE DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND IT ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT. IT'S A SHAME FIAT/CHRYSLER WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD A FEW CLOSE CALLS BUT NO ACCIDENT YET DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. ALSO THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR ANYWHERE AT ANY SPEED EXCEPT TURNING. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOSTLY WHEN GOING STRAIGHT. WHEN IN A TURN AS LONG AS THE STEERING WHEEL IS IN MOTION IT DOESN'T HANG BUT IF IT STOPS AND YOU START TO TURN FURTHER OR GO BACK IT WILL HANG AGAIN. MY FIAT 500L IS A 2014 MODEL THAT ONLY HAS 60,000 MILES ON THE CAR. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS VISIBLE AND NO APPARENT ISSUE WITH THE CAR. FEB 9 2017 WHILE IN A PARKING LOT THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO REVERSE HOWEVER THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD CAUSING MY WIFE TO CRASH INTO A CONCRETE POLE IN THE PARKING LOT DAMAGING THE FRONT END. I CONTACTED FIAT CUSTOMER CARE ABOUT THE INCIDENT AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND AFTER ALOT OF TALKS THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX THE TRANSMISSION ERROR BUT NOT THE DAMAGE IT DID I FIXED OTHER REPAIRS SO THE VEHICLE COULD STILL BE DRIVEN. SEPT 15 2017 WHILE DRIVING IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC VEHICLE WAS SMOKING AND SHIFTING ROUGH WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS IF GAS PEDAL WAS NOT FULLY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE MOVEMENT IS NOT LIKE WHAT HAPPENS IN A MANUAL SHIFT CAR. IT FEELS AS IF IT IS ACCELERATING IN THE DIRECTION OPPOSITE TO THE INTENDED. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS IN THE STEERING. WE WERE ON A VERY TIGHT WINDING ROAD HWY20. DRIVING FROM WILLETS TO FT. BRAGG AND BACK AND THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFENED AND RESISTED TURNING IN THESE TIGHT CURVES. IT FELT AS IF THE POWER STEERING WAS FAILING OR THE STEERING WHEEL WAS IN DANGER OF LOCKING. I JUST TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND WAS GIVEN A WARNING FROM CHRYSLER THAT THE '(HSA) MAY NOT ACTIVATE AND SLIGHT ROLLING MAY OCCUR'. THE ROLLING IS NOT SLIGHT AND IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR ON MOUNTAIN SIDES JUST PLAIN DANGEROUS. THE STEERING PROBLEM DID NOT MANIFEST ITSELF TO THE TECH. THIS CAR HAS HAD A NUMBER OF POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEMS. THESE BEING THE MOST RECENT. IT TOOK THE RECALL, AFTER TWO YEARS AND FOUR TRIPS TO THE DEALER, TO ADDRESS THE THROTTLE PROBLEM WHICH WAS TERRIFYING. LOSING CONTROL OF THE THROTTLE ON A 8 LANE HWY IN HEAVY 75 MPH TRAFFIC IS HEART STOPPING.THIS CAR HAS SERIOUSLY FLAWED ENGINEERING. FURTHERMORE, FIAT IS DOING A RECALL FOR AN IDENTICALLY DESCRIBED ISSUE FOR "CHRYSLER (FCA US LLC) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2014 FIAT 500L VEHICLES. THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) SOFTWARE CALIBRATION MAYBE INCORRECT, LIMITING THE ENGINE TO IDLE SPEED AND TORQUE EVEN WHEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS FULLY PRESSED." FOLLOW UP ON THE FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES US LLC RECALL T19/NHTSA 17V-192. *LD THE CONSUMER WAS FOLLOWING UP ON RECALL T19/NHTSA 17V-192. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT NOTICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED 3 TIMES EACH TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED. *JS

IN THREE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT DIFFERENT TIMES DURING MILD TRAFFIC, THE CAR STARTS TO SMOKE, A BAD SMELL STARTS ENTERING THE CABIN AND THE CAR AND ENGINE HAVE DIED, I COULD ALSO NOT PUT IT IN REVERSE IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE ONCE. AT ANOTHER INSTANCE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED (SMOKE/SHUT OFF) AND I GOT STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE A FAMILY MEMBER HAD TO COME AND GET ME. THE CAR HAS SHUT OFF WITH NO AVAILABILITY TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THE TRANSMISSION EURO CLUTCH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN THE CULPRIT AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS FIXED IT TWICE ALREADY BUT WITH NO LONG TERM SOLUTION. THIS IS EXPECTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN, AND THEY HAVE WARNED ME THAT I SHOULD DRIVE IT LIKE A MANUAL IN MANUAL MODE TO AVOID ANY FUTURE ISSUES, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW THAT FIAT OVERLOOKED, THEY EVEN CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION THE FOLLOWING YEAR TO A CONVENTIONAL AISIN AUTOMATIC AND GOT RID OF THE EURO CLUTCH AUTOMATIC. SOMETIMES NEEDS TO BE DONE AS I PLANNED ON KEEPING THIS VEHICLE FOR A LONG TIME AND I AM NOW VERY DISSATISFIED WITH MY PURCHASE.
MY 2014 FIAT 500L TREKKING BEGAN TO PRODUCE A HORRIBLE SMELL WHILE AND CUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING MAKING STEERING OUT OF WAY OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME VERY DIFFICULT. THE CAR WENT FROM GOING ABOUT 45-50 MILES PER HOUR TO ABOUT 5 MPH IN A MATTER OF A FEW SECOND, EVERYTHING LOCKED UP MAKING STEERING VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE AND THEN FINALLY COASTED TO A FINAL STOP. UPON ME DE RANKING THE CAR I WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT IT TO DRIVE AT ALL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER WHICH I PURCHASED IT FROM ONLY 3 MONTHS EARLIER. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE MID DECEMBER AND THIS HAPPENED IN MARCH. THE DEALER HAD CAR TOWED TO A FIAT (CLEARLAKE DODGE/JEEP/FIAT). THEY INITIALLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND OTHER COMPLIMENTARY COMPONENTS. I WAS CALLED TO PICK UP MY CAR AFTER BEING IN THEIR POSSESSION FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND TOLD IT WAS FIXED, HOWEVER WITHIN THE 10 MILES OF LEAVING THE LOT THE CAR DID THE SAME THING BUT THIS TIME ON AN OVERPASS OF A MAJOR FREEWAY WITH AN 18 WHEELER TRUCK BEHIND ME. I RETURNED THE CAR TO CLEARLAKE FIAT. THEY KEPT IT FOR SEVERAL MORE DAYS AND HAD ME TO PICK IT UP A SECOND TIME; SAME RESULT! IN ALL I HAVE RETURNED MY CAR OVER 4 TIMES AND HAVE ONLY HAD USE OF IT FOR 3 MONTHS OR LESS OF THE 11 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED IT. I CAN NO LONGER PAY A CAR NOTE FOR A CAR THAT SEEMINGLY CAN NOT BE REPAIRED IT IS DESTROYING MY FINANCES AND PUTTING THE LITTLE LIFE OF MYSELF AND FAMILY IN GRAVE DANGER EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO PICK IT UP AFTER BEING TOLD THAT IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED. I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM CARMAX. HOWEVER, I HAVE BEEN BEGGING CARMAX, CLEARLAKE FIAT, THE WARRANTY COMPANY AND MY FINANCE COMPANY FOR SOME ASSISTANCE IN REMEDYING THIS CRISIS AND HAVE ONLY GOTTEN A RUN AROUND AND NO ANSWERS, HELP, REMEDIES OR PROPER REPAIR OF MY VEHICLE AND AS OF TODAY 11/16/2017 THEY STILL HAVE MY VEHICLE AND NO ONE RETURNS MY CALLS.
A MISALIGNMENT OF THE LEFT FRONT CORNER PANEL AND THE SIDE PANEL, AS WELL AS A MISALIGNMENT OF THE LEFT REAR CORNER PANEL AND THE SIDE PANEL HAVE TAKEN PLACE (SEE PICTURES). THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF AN "IMPACT." I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE "CLIPS" THAT HOLD THE PANELS TOGETHER. UNDER THE REAR BUMPER, THERE IS A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC BY THE MUFFLER (SEE PICTURE). THAT WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY BACKING INTO A SNOWBANK. THERE ARE NO OTHER "SCRATCH" MARKS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE REAR BUMPER, AND THERE ARE NO SCRATCH MARKS (CAUSED BY HITTING SOMETHING) UNDER THE FRONT BUMPER. THERE ARE NO ISSUES ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. I WILL ACCEPT THE FACT THAT I MAY HAVE BACKED INTO A SNOWBANK. HOWEVER, IF THAT CAUSED THE PANEL SEPARATION, THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE WAY THE PANELS ARE CONNECTED. WITH THE FRONT PANELS, I AM AMAZED THAT AN "IMPACT" THAT SHOWS NO VISIBLE MARKS WOULD BE SUFFICIENT TO CAUSE THE PANELS TO SEPARATE/MISALIGN. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF THE "CLIPS" THAT CONNECT THE PANELS ARE THAT WEAK, THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THERE WAS ANY ACTUAL IMPACT. I INDICATED A DATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BUT I AM NOT SURE IF THAT WAS WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT.
