500X TREKKING IS HAVING ISSUES SHIFTING RANDOMLY. COMING TO STOP IT FEELS LIKE I AM GETTING REAR ENDED WHEN IT SHIFTS DOWN. PUSHING THE GAS HESITATES AND I FEEL LIKE I AM GETTING WHIPLASH FROM THE SHIFT.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR SECOND HAND. 33200 MILES STILL ON THE WARRANTY. AFTER FEW MONTHS, 650 MILES OF USAGE, A WARNING LIGHT FOR FOR THE ENGINE AND "DRIVING MODE UNAVAILABLE" STARTED POPPING UP, SO THIS A PLATE LIGHT WARNING POP UP AS WELL. BROUGHT TO FIAT, THEY SAID IT WAS THE THERMOSTAT WHICH IT WAS THEN CHANGED AND SUPPOSEDLY WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. GOT THE CAR BACK. AFTER FEW DAYS AND 125 MILES MORE AGAIN THE "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE" WARNING POP UP... THEN THE FOUR WHEAL DRIVE UNAVAILABLE POP UP..THERE WAS ALSO A WHEAL WARNING POPPING UP. THEN OUT OF A SUDDEN, ON A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE CAR DIDN'T WANT TO START. I HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND TURN BACK ON. ONCE I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK, ALL KINDS OF WARNING SIGNS CAME UP. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT WARNING KEPT ON. SO DID THE "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE". BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO FIAT RIGHT AWAY. THEY SAID THE BATTERY WAS NOT TIED CORRECTLY. WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW IT DID HAPPEN AND WHY THEY DID NOT SEE THAT THE FIRST TIME THEY LOOK AT THE CAR. GOING TO PICK UP THE CAR TOMORROW AND HOPE WILL NOT GOING TO HAVE TO REPORT FURTHER ISSUES.
ON 3/30/2019, AFTER A SHORT DRIVE (APPROX. 0.5 MILES), THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD: 'DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE' AND 'SERVICE ENGINE'. THIS WAS ALSO ACCOMPANIED BY WHAT SEEMED TO BE MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE VIBRATION FROM THE WORKING ENGINE AND A SUBTLE SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. TOTAL MILEAGE DRIVEN AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT IS 17,284.
DAYTIMERUNNING LIGHT. BRAKE LIGHT. PARKING LIGHT ALL OUT SAME TIME VEHICLE ONLY HAS 12,000 MILES ON IT.
VEHICLE HAS DIFFICULTY SHIFTING IN LOWER GEARS. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTS, THE CAR JERKS YOU FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED INCREASINGLY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, BUT HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FEB '19. VEHICLE ALSO TENDS TO SHAKE WHEN IN IDLE AT RED LIGHTS, SHAKING STOPS AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL.
IN DECEMBER 2018, THE VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN. THE LOCAL FIAT DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THAT THE COOLING FAN NEEDED REPLACING BECAUSE IT HAD BLOWN A FUSE. IN JANUARY 2018, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WITH OUR CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SUDDENLY TURNED OFF. WE TRIED TURNING THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT WOULD NOT COME ON. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE FINALLY TURNED ON BUT NO WARNING MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY AND MANY TIMES WITH OUR CHILDREN AND WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE CAR STALLED ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND NOT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. WE IMMEDIATELY REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO FIAT (CASE # 57913062) AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FIAT DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS HAVING A LOW LEVEL OF ENGINE OIL EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN THERE A FEW WEEKS BEFORE AND WENT THROUGH THEIR "MULTI-POINT" INSPECTION. THEY RECOMMENDED AN OIL CHANGE WITH AN ADDITIVE AND A FUEL INJECTION CLEANING WHICH COST US $600. TWO WEEKS LATER, WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AS IF IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL, WOULD NOT SPEED PAST 60MPH, AND SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN. WE TOOK THE FIRST HIGHWAY EXIT AVAILABLE AND PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND CALLED FOR TOWING. WE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO FIAT ONCE AGAIN (CASE # 58008152) AND REQUESTED FOR IT TO BE ESCALATED DUE THE FREQUENT INCIDENTS AND OUR CONCERN FOR SAFETY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SAME FIAT DEALERSHIP AS BEFORE WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS BEING A BAD IGNITION COIL THAT CAUSED A MISFIRE. WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE FROM FIAT.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON CITY STREET AND VEHICLE TURNED OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE
MY TIE ROD HAS BENT 2 TIMES NOW. I HAVE DONE NOTHING TO IT. THE FIRST TIME IS THAT MY WHOLE TIRE FELL OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THE NEXT IT JUST BARELY NOT EVEN A YEAR AFTER MY TIRE FELL OFF I WAS DRIVING IN THE SNOW AND MY DRIVE MODE STOP WORKING. ONCE I PARKED I LOOK AT MY TIRE AND SAW IT WAS COCKEYED. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. I WAS ONLY GOING MAX 5 MILES AN HOUR. IT HAS BEEN A YEAR FROM HELL WITH MY CAR.
WHEN DRIVING ON ANY KIND OF TRAIN, STRAIGHT GROUND OR HILLS, ESPECIALLY WHEN ACCELERATING, THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL MODE AND SUDDENLY KICKS BACK INTO DRIVE MODE. THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD AND IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. THIS STARTED ABOUT TWO TO THREE MONTHS AGO (NOVEMBER 2018) BUT HAS BECOME SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. THE CAR HAS 35K MILES, AUTOMATIC 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT IT NEW IN JUNE OF 2015. I NOTICED THAT THE IS A RECALL FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON SIMILAR FIATS SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2016, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY KIND OF NOTICE FROM FCA ABOUT THIS.
FIAT 500X 2016 TURNS OFF. NO WARNING, WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. MULTIPLE TIMES, LOW SPEED (20 MPH) AND HIGHER SPEED (45 MPH). DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I NEEDED TO CHANGE MY OIL.
WHILE DRIVING AND SLOWING TO A STOP THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT INTO 1ST EARLY CREATING A JUMP OR SURGE WHILE SLOWING. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS FROM OCCURRING IS TO SWITCH TO MANUAL SHIFTING AND DOWN SHIFT MANUALLY WHEN ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP.
AROUND OCTOBER 9, I TRIED TO TURN ON THE IGNITION AS USUAL WITH THE KEY FOB. THE ENGINE WOULD'T TURN, SO I RECHARGED THE BATTERY. AFTER 10 MINUTES, IT FINALLY CRANKED. THE BATTERY IS GOOD, HOWEVER, SO I REPLACED THE BATTERY IN THE FOB. ON OCTOBER 19, I USED THE KEY FOB AND ALL KINDS OF INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. WHEN I PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE, SEVERAL LIGHT INDICATORS (SERVICE ENGINE, CHECK TRANSMISSION, ETC.) AND IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING INSIDE THE ENGINE DROPPED AS IF THE CAR SHIFTED INTO ANOTHER GEAR. THE 'R' AND THE 'D' BLINKED STEADILY. I CALLED AND ALERTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT BREWBAKER DEALERSHIP, BUT THE ONLY AVAILABILITY WAS THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. BY FATE, THE CAR BEGAN TO OPERATE BETTER. FOR NEARLY A WEEK, THE IGNITION STARTED TO IMPROVE ALTHOUGH IT WOULD TAKE TWO TRIES. ON THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 29, THE SAME PROBLEMS REOCCURED FROM OCTOBER 19. INSTEAD OF GOING TO WORK, I DROVE THE CAR STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT FOR SERVICE PERSONNEL TO ANALYZE THE PROBLEM. IN RESEARCH OF RECALLS, I NOTICED THAT MY CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST ALTHOUGH THE DESCRIPTIONS OF DEFECTS FIT WHAT MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING.
MY WIFE TOLD ME OF THIS HAPPENING TO HER AND I DIDN'T BELIEVE HER UNTIL IT HAPPENED TO ME. SO, I'M DRIVING DOWN NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS AT ABOUT 45 MPH, THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT, AND I GO TO CROSS AN INTERSECTION AND THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER WITH TRAFFIC HEADED TOWARDS ME. LUCKILY, IT REGAINED POWER A FEW SECONDS LATER, BUT I FEEL WE'VE JUST BEEN LUCKY SO FAR. MY WIFE HAS EXPERIENCED THIS SEVERAL TIMES, ON HIGHWAYS, NEIGHBORHOOD ROADS, ETC. AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT TWICE NOW. THE NEXT DAY, THE DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE MESSAGE CAME ON WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT GO. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED IT AND WAS TOLD THE OLD UPDATE STORY. TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND THEY KEPT IT A WHOLE WEEK THE NEXT TIME AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG THEY SAID. IT KEEPS HAPPENING, THE COMPUTER KEEPS TURNING OFF OUR DISPLAY, AND I BELIEVE THE ENGINE FAN MAY BE GOING OUT NOW. NOT A GOOD/QUALITY VEHICLE AT ALL AND I FEEL LIKE FIAT DOESN'T HAVE ANY ANSWERS FOR THE PROBLEMS AS WE KEEP BEING TOLD "UPDATES," YET IT CONTINUES HAPPENING.
AT 47.000 MILES THE VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SAYING "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE." THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO STOP DRIVING AND HAVE THE CAR TOWED IN FOR SERVICE.
DRIVERS SEAT BELT WILL NOT LATCH ANYMORE
HAPPENED AGAIN -- THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOV 2016. ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. FIAT DEALER APPARENTLY CLUELESS ABOUT THE ISSUE AND HOW TO REPAIR. TOOK CAR TO SAME DEALER ALL THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED - EACH TIME THEY'VE GIVEN ME A RIDICULOUS REASON THE CAR IS LITERALLY SHUTTING OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE STREET!! FIRST TIME THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE THE COMPUTER NEEDED UPDATING?!?! SECOND TIME (POSTED ON NHTSA WHEN 2ND TIME HAPPENED) THEY SAID IT WAS A LOOSE CABLE CONNECTION TO THE BATTERY - NEVER ONCE EXPLAINED WHY CAR WAS GIVING THE ALERT "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE), AND NOW THIS THIRD TIME THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T GET CAR TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. MAKES ZERO SENSE - CAR ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND IN MOTION 3+ TIMES A DAY!!! FIAT DEALER KEPT CAR FOR 8 DAYS - AT ONE POINT TOLD ME IT NEEDED ALMOST $2000 OF WORK AND THAT THE REASON ENGINE WAS SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING WAS LOW OIL PRESSURE?!?! AFTER I QUESTIONED THEM EXTENSIVELY ABOUT THE CHARGES AND THE SUPPOSED LOW OIL PRESSURE - THEY CHANGED THEIR STORY AND SAID OIL PRESSURE WAS JUST SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL AND APOLOGIZED ABOUT THE $2000 CHARGES - SAID I DIDN'T OWE ANYTHING?? AGAIN, THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A REASON WHY CAR WAS SHUTTING OFF AND SUPPOSEDLY THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. SO I PICKED UP THE CAR AND IT HASN'T DIED ON ME ONCE - SO THEY MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING TO IT. WHY THE COVER UP!?! WHY DOES MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING?!?! EVERYTHING GOES OUT WHEN IT DOES -- BECOMES DIFFICULT TO STEER AND BRAKE. SERIOUSLY SCARY!!!
VEHICLE FOG LIGHTS HAVE AN ISSUE WHERE ONE LIGHT GETS TOO MUCH VOLTAGE, CAUSING IT TO BURN OUT THE BULB AND THE HOLDING UNIT. SOMETIMES THE BULBS WILL RANDOMLY SWITCH (FOR EXAMPLE ONE DAY THE DRIVER'S SIDE WILL BE OUT, THEN THE NEXT DAY THE PASSENGER SIDE). I HAVE TAKEN IT TO GET REPAIRED: THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BULB AND THE HOLDING UNIT AND ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER. I THEN TOOK IT BACK, THE MECHANIC CHECKED MY ALTERNATOR WHICH WAS FINE AND PUTTING OUT CORRECT AC AND DC VOLTAGE. HE TOLD ME HE CALLED FIAT AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE BUT DON'T KNOW WHY. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ON BACK ROADS (SO GOING UNDER AND UP TO 45MPH) THE VERY FIRST TIME THE LIGHT WENT OUT. AFTER THE FIRST TIME, I WOULD TURN THE CAR ON AND IT WOULD BE OUT, OTHER DAYS IT WOULD BE ON AND WOULDN'T GO OUT AT ALL, OR IT WOULD GO OUT LATER WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THERE WAS REALLY NO CONSISTENCY TO THE ISSUE.
MY FIAT 500X SHIFTED ITSELF TO NEUTRAL FROM DRIVE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. GEAR NOIZES HEARD FROM ENGINE FOR THREE MONTHS. IT ALSO STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING BY ITSELF WHILE MY SON WAS IN CAR WITH ME. VERY SCARY. I CALLED CHRYSLER/FIAT, CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID "NO RECALL" OF MY CAR, IT'S BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. I GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT RECALL STARTED AUG. 29, 2016 AND I BOUGHT THE CAR IN JULY, 2016. SO WHO TOOK CARE OF THE RECALL IF THERE WAS ONE???!!! NO RECALL FOR THIS KINDA OF PROBLEM IS UNBELIEVABLE!! PUTTING OUR LIVES IN EXTREME DANGER. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE ANY LIFE LOSS!! THIS IS A VERY DISHONET ACTION OF FIAT AND THE PERSON WHO SOLD THIS CAR TO ME, KNOWING THIS PROBLEM COULD PUT MY FAMILY'S LIVES IN CRASH. RIDICULOUS REALLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 FIAT 500X. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE AND EXPLODED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FIRE CAUSED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE HOME. THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FIRE, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND SAW NO SIGNS OF A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO A REPAIR FACILITY FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: [XXX]. MY FIAT 500X 2016, HAS BEEN CHANGING FROM SPORT MODE, TO THE TRACTION MODE, THEN OUT OF NO WHERE IT SAYS DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE.
MY 2016 FIAT 500X STARTED OVERHEATING WITH APPROXIMATELY 32,900 MILES ON IT. I HAD THE FAN ASSEMBLY AND 50 AMP FUSE REPLACED. IT IS STARTING TO MAKE THE SAME NOISE I HAD NOTICED WEEKS BEFORE IT OVERHEATED AGAIN.
THE CAR IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND NO MORE THAN 5000 MILES. I NOW HAVE A WARNING MESSAGE "SERVICE ENGINE - DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE". NOW REMOTE START WON'T WORK NOR WILL THE TRACTION CONTROL (I.E. THE VARIOUS DRIVE MODES). FIAT DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE PROBLEM.
CAR HAS APPROX 26K MILES. DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS THIS MORNING AND WARNING CAME ON "SERVICE ENGINE. DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE". I HAD THE SUN ROOF OPEN AS I WAS DRIVING AND I KEPT THINKING I WAS SMELLING A HOT OR BURNING SMELL, BUT COULDN'T BE SURE. I POPPED THE HOOD WHEN I GOT HOME AND DIDN'T SMELL ANYTHING OBVIOUS. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT JUST HAD IT IN FOR OIL CHANGE A WEEK AGO - THEY NEVER RESET THE OIL CHANGE LIGHT (WHICH WASN'T COMING ON BEFORE OIL CHANGE - THOUGH LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT WAS COMING ON -- NOW LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT IS OFF, BUT OIL CHANGE LIGHT IS ON!). AGAIN, DON'T KNOW IF IT IS RELATED BUT WANT TO GIVE ALL PIECES OF THE PUZZLE. ALSO MY ENGINE SHUTS OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING OCCASIONALLY. VERY SCARY! TOOK IT IN TO FIAT AND THEY GAVE ME A LAME EXCUSE -- IT JUST NEEDED SOME UPDATES! TO ME THAT IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE -- WHAT IF I HAD BEEN GOING 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE AND THIS HAPPENED!? I ASKED THEM THAT EXACT QUESTION AT FIAT AND THEY JUST SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IT IS SHOCKING TO ME THAT FIAT IS NOT TAKING IT MORE SERIOUSLY! AFTER THE "UPDATE" THAT THEY PERFORMED ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO -- ALL SEEMED FINE UNTIL ABOUT A MONTH AGO. CAR STALLED AS I WAS DRIVING -- SEEMED TO HAPPEN ONLY WHEN I WAS GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP OR A ROUGH ROAD. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE THE FIRST TIME -- FIRST TIME I WAS ON A SMOOTH, FLAT ROAD. I REALLY FEEL LIKE A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE DONE ON THESE CARS BECAUSE AFTER READING ABOUT SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THESE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS -- THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE!
I HAVE HAD AT LEAST 5 INCIDENTS SO FAR WITH MY FIAT TURNING COMPLETELY OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN NUMEROUS OF TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH NO LUCK. I HAVE DOCUMENTED EACH AND EVERY TIME MY CAR DECIDES TO SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I FIND MY CAR TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME AND MY FAMILY AS WELL AS OTHERS. THE DEALERSHIPS SEEM TO NOT KNOW WHY MY FIAT TENDS TO SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. FIRST I HAD ONLY ABOUT 25000 MILES AND IT SHUTS OFF WHILE TURNING IN A 4 WAY INTERSECTION, FIAT PLACE HAD ME TAKE IT IN JUST TO SAY IT NEEDED AN UPDATE. SECOND TIME I STALLED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WITH MY CHILDREN INSIDE. CALLED THE DEALER, SAID IT NEEDED AN UPDATE. 3RD TIME HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME DAY. DEALER HAD IT FOR TWO WEEKS AND SAID IT WAS A NEW UPDATE THAT CAUSED MY FIAT TO TURN OFF COMPLETELY. 4TH TIME HAPPENED WHILE I DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 45MPH AND DEALER HAD ME BRING IT IN AND SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY MY KEY FOB BATTERY ( LITERALLY JUST CHANGED THE BATTERIES THE DAY BEFORE). ALL BS FROM THE DEALERS MECHANICS. SO I CALLED FIAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ALL, I SHOULD RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM RUN TEST. THEY HAD IT FOR A MONTH AND SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY MY DRIVING HABITS AND THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SO NOW MY FIAT DECIDES TO SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING 70MPH 49000 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE, THANKFULLY I WAS IN THE SLOW LANE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A SAFE POSITION TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE 3RD MONTH OF OWNERSHIP JUNE 2017.
WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY, THE A/C ABRUPTLY STOPPED WORKING AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY OVERHEATED. THE FAN ASSEMBLY HAD FAULTED, THE ISSUE WAS CORRECTED IN OCTOBER 2017 AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS HELD FOR 30 DAYS BECAUSE THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE NEW ISSUE CAME UP ON START UP, THE A/C WAS NOT COOLING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A SENSOR IN THE RIGHT REAR VIEW MIIRROR THAT IS CAUSING THE A/C MALFUNCTION, THEY INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE FAN ASSEMBLY THAT HAD FAULTED AGAIN. THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR (3) WEEKS. THEY SAID IT WAS A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE ON THE PART (AGAIN). MY QUESTION IS SHOULD THIS BE CAUSE FOR CONCERN? WHY WOULD THERE BE A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE ON A SINGLE PART? AND IS THIS CONNECTED IN ANYWAY TO THE FAN ASSEMBLY FAILURE. I LOVE MY FIAT, BUT I DONT NEED THE ISSUES, THIS VEHICLE IS BARELY (2) YEARS OLD.
SERVICE ENGINE DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE SOME TIME TRANSMISSION NOT ENGAGING WHEN YOU START ENGINE AND GO. SCREECHING NOISE FROM PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN A MIDDLE LANE GOING ABOUT 50MPH WHEN I NOTICED THE CAR WAS NO LONGER RESPONSIVE TO GAS OR STEERING. BRAKES WERE HARDER TO PRESS THAN USUAL & I REALIZED THE CAR HAD TURNED ITSELF OFF. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET IT STARTED AGAIN WAS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP & PUT IT IN PARK, RE-START, DISENGAGE THE AUTO-EMERGENCY BRAKE, THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE. ALL WHILE CARS WERE FLYING AROUND THE BEND OF THE HIGHWAY ALMOST HITTING ME AND ALMOST HITTING EACH OTHER TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ME.
MY CAR HAS 6641 MILES ON IT. IT IS NOT DRIVING CORRECTLY MY CAR SAIDS NO DRIVE MODE AVAILABLE . THE CAR IS HESITATING WHEN IN DRIVE.
I SLIGHTLY OVERSHOT A STOP SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF A STEEP HILL. I SAW THAT A CAR WITH THE RIGHT OF WAY WAS RAPIDLY APPROACH THE INTERSECTION SO I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE WITH THE INTENT TO BACK UP THE CAR A COUPLE OF FEET. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND INSTEAD OF ENGAGING THE GEAR IN REVERSE, THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD IN NEUTRAL FARTHER INTO THE INTERSECTION BEFORE THE GEAR WAS ENGAGED BY THE COMPUTER. LUCKILY, THE CAR JERKED BACKWARD IN TIME WHEN THE COMPUTER FINALLY ENGAGED THE GEAR. THE DELAY IN THE COMPUTER RECOGNIZING THE GEAR IS COMMON. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALL SOFTWARE UPDATES FOR THE TRANSMISSION, THE COMPUTER FREQUENTLY LAGS IN SHIFTING TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR. WHEN IT DOES SHIFT, THERE IS NOTICEABLE JERK.
TRANSMISSION HESITATES TO ENGAGE AFTER PRESSING ACCELERATOR AND ALSO SHIFTS ROUGHLY WHEN IT DOES CHANGE GEARS. ALL AVAILABLE SOFTWARE PATCHES HAVE BEEN APPLIED BY DEALER, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WHEN MERGING OR TURNING INTO TRAFFIC, SINCE ACCELERATION CAN LAG RANDOMLY WHEN IT IS NEEDED THE MOST. BECAUSE OF THE ACCELERATION BURSTS AND LAGS WHEN SHIFTING, THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND PROVIDES A HERKY-JERKY DRIVING EXPERIENCE.
I RECEIVED THE ERROR MESSAGE "DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE" WITH A SERVICE ENGINE MESSAGE AFTER MY LAST REGULAR SERVICE APPOINTMENT AND OIL CHANGE. MY CAR IS AT 27,400 MILES AND AFTER THROWING THAT CODE BARELY COULD MAKE IT UP A RESIDENTIAL HILL. AFTER THE LOCAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT, 3 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE MESSAGE POPPED UP AGAIN AND DRIVING WAS DIFFICULT. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS HAD MY FIAT 500X NOW THE SECOND TIME SINCE DECEMBER 1ST WITH NO UPDATES FOR ME.
CAR STATES 'DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE' AND A DAY AFTER CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING TURNED BACK ON AND DRIVE AS NORMAL ALSO RADIO SCREEN TURNS OFF AND ON BY ITSELF
MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. THERE ARE CONSTANT DELAYS IN SHIFTING. UPON ANY ACCELERATION, MY VEHICLE WILL FAIL TO SHIFT FOR UP TO SEVERAL MINUTES. DURING THAT TIME THE ENGINE WILL REV UP TO 600 RPMS BEFORE FINALLY SHIFTING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE QUICKLY WITH EVERY GEAR. ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS OTHER CARS OR SPEED UP QUICKLY. ALL SHIFTING IS CLUNKY AND VEHICLE OFTEN SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTS WHILE DRIVING ON AN OPEN HIGHWAY AND MAINTAINING A SPEED OF 55MPH TO 60MPH. ALSO DOWNSHIFTS SUDDENLY DURING NORMAL STREE DRIVING. VEHICLE WILL NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN 75MPH-EVEN ON A STEEP DOWNSLOPE. I CAN FLOOR THE GAS PEDAL AND CAR SIMPLY WILL NOT GO FASTER THAN 75MPH. I MUST SWITCH TO SPORT MODE TO GO ANY FASTER, BUT THEN AVERAGE RPMS ARE 300-350 AND VEHICLE USES TOO MUCH GAS. I HAVE OWNED IT ONLY 30 DAYS. PURCHASED FROM A DEALER. ONE PREVIOUS OWNER. ONLY 28000 MILES ODO. IDLES SOMEWHAT ROUGH AND SLIGHT KNOCKING HEARD FROM ENGINE WHILE OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. HAVE HAD IT BACK TO DEALER WHO DENIED ANY PROBLEM, BUT GAVE ME NO PAPERWORK TO TELL ME WHAT WAS CHECKED. TAKING IT BACK TOMORROW. PROBLEMS ARE A SERIOUS DANGER WHILE DRIVING.

ENGINE IS VERY SHAKY WHEN STALLED AT STOP LIGHTS, ETC. SERVICE LIGHT RECENTLY CAME ON AND CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION AS IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE COOLING FAN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER WITH NO ETA. CAR CAN NO LONGER BE DRIVEN IN TRAFFIC AS IT QUICKLY OVERHEATS.
CAR WAS GETTING OIL CHANGE AT ANOTHER FACILITY. THE WORKERS NOTICED THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR WAS MELTED AND DEFORMED. THERE WAS MAJOR OIL OR OTHER FLUIDS LEAKING. CAR WAS BROUGHT IN AND FIXED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. IT WAS FIXED INCORRECTLY AND HAD TO BE TOWED IN AFTER BEING FIXED. THE CAR STOPPED DRIVING. NO ONE WAS ABLE TO TELL ME WHY THE CAR WAS LIKE THAT AND WHY IT WAS FIXED INCORRECTLY AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THEN SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, THE CAR HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT AND HAD TO BE TOWED IN. THE DRIVESHAFT WAS BROKEN AND REPLACED. THESE TWO MAJOR COMPONENTS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN A CAR LESS THAN 2 YEARS OR 20,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT OFFERED ANY CONCESSION OR EXPLANATION. THE MANAGER EVENTUALLY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS "DEFORMED". I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS NOT SHOWING SYMPTOMS WITH THE FIRST INCIDENT ONLY LEAKED FLUID. THE SECOND TIME WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT IT WAS IN MOTION.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID IT JUST NEEDED SOME UPDATES, GAVE IT THE UPDATES, AND SENT ME HOME. ABOUT 50 MILES LATER THE DRIVE MODE AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. ABOUT 50 MILES LATER THEY TURNED OFF ON THEIR OWN, AND ANOTHER 20 MILES LATER THEY CAME BACK ON AGAIN. THE CAR SEEMS TO DRIVE NORMALLY BUT THE DIFFERENT DRIVE MODES SUCH AS "TRACTION +" AREN'T ACCESSIBLE. IT'S BEEN BETWEEN 60-80 DEGREES OUTSIDE & CLEAR ON EACH OCCASION. IT HASN'T TURNED ITSELF OFF AGAIN SINCE THE FIRST TIME.

I PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC, WHEEL SLIPPED AND WENT INTO LIMP IN MIDDLE OF LANES UNTILL IT CLEARED AND TOOK OFF AT HALF THROTTLE AND ALMOST GOT SMEARED BY TRAFFIC. DEALER SAYS ALL FIATS HAVE SAME PROBLEM AND ONLY SOLUTION IS TO GIVE A LOT OF LEAD TIME BEFORE ENTERING TRAFFIC AND TRY NOT TO ACCELERATE AS TO MAKE WHEELS SLIP WHEN ROAD CONDITIONS MAY CAUSE SLIPPING. THIS HAS HAPPEND PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND WHILE ON RAMPS, HILLS. IF ON CURVE OR HILL VEHICLE WILL GO INT "LIMP MODE" AND WILL JUST SLIDE DOWN HILLS AND THROUGH CURVES!!!
