MY CAR STARTED TO DRIVE "ROUGH" AND LATER THAT DAY I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT SERVICED. WHILE THERE WERE NO LIGHT INDICATORS OFF ON THE DASH THEY SAID TO GO AHEAD AND BRING IT IN ON MONDAY TO BE LOOKED AT. SUNDAY NIGHT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT JUST DIED. AGAIN, NO LIGHTS INDICATING SOMETHING WAS WRONG, IT HAD JUST NOT BEEN DRIVING SMOOTHLY. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE NEXT DAY WE WERE CONTACTED TO LET US KNOW THAT THE VEHICLE'S PCM HAD SHORTED AND MELTED THE PLUGS, INTAKE VALUES, COILS, BATTERY AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD THIS VEHICLE SERVICED BY THIS DEALER AND HAD ALL OF OUR RECOMMENDED AND / OR REQUIRED SERVICE / MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. WHICH IS WHY IT IS SO VEXING THAT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT A SERVICEABLE ITEM AND HAS NO NOTIFICATION CAN NOT ONLY GO OUT BUT TAKE SO MANY COMPONENTS WITH THEM. I OF COURSE CONTACTED FORD WHO SAID THAT IT IS NOT ON A RECALL LIST AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I AM CONTACTING THE NHTSA FOR THEIR CONSIDERATION OF THIS ITEM. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF A FUEL LEAK UNDER THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THE FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK, WHERE THE FUEL TANK WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V682000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

FUEL TANK HAS SMALL RUST HOLES IN THE TOP WHICH CAUSES A STRONG FUEL SMELL. WE CAN ONLY FILL TANK HALF FULL TO TRY TO KEEP THE SMELL FROM BEING SO OVER WHELMING. FORD WANTS UP TO $2700.00 TO REPLACE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL TANK IS LOCATED VERY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST PIPE. THAT CONCERNS ME A LOT. *TR
I HAVE HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE WRENCH LOOKING LIGHT COMING ON THEN THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER. WHEN I PUSH THE GAS YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO GET IT TO CREEP TO GO TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF WHEN IT RESTARTS THEN THE VEHICLE WILL GO. THIS LAST TIME THE VEHICLE GOT ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 2.5 HOURS UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK GOT THERE AND TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER STARTED IT TWO DAYS LATE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I HAD IT TO THE SHOP PREVIOUSLY TO TRY AND GET THIS DIAGNOSED AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS INVOLVING THE SAME THING. FORD SHOULD LOOK AT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM AND OPEN A CLAIM TO TAKE CARE OF THESE ISSUES. *TR
AT A STOP, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE,LOUD CLUNKING SOUND, AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON. WOULD NOT MOVE, HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF CAR FOR A FEW SECONDS, ONLY MOVED A FEW FEET BEFORE IT DID AGAIN. NEXT DAY SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE 2007 FORD EDGE AWD 93,000 MILES DEVELOPED A SLIGHT HUMMING IN THE FRONT END, IT ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE A CUPPED TIRE OR A WHEEL BEARING. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED OUR MECHANIC AND HAD IT INSPECTED. UPON INSPECTION HE INFORMED US THAT THE PTU WAS RUINED, WE HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FROM NEW AND SERVICED IT AS REQUIRED AND ONLY DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY APPROX 45 MILES PER DAY. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE PTU (TRANSFER CASE) OVERALL HAS A ISSUE WITH THE SEALS THAT HOLD THE FLUID (OUTER SEAL=GEAR OIL, INNER SEAL= TRANNY FLUID) INSIDE THE UNIT, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE'S DONE SO MANY OF THE SEAL REPLACEMENTS THAT AT ONE POINT THAT WAS ALL HE WAS DOING IN A DAY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT WHEN THE SEAL GOES YOU CAN'T TELL BECAUSE IT LEAKS DIRECTLY ONTO THE EXHAUST AND BURNS OFF AS YOUR DRIVING. IF WE WERE INFORMED OF THE LEAKY SEAL WE COULD HAVE HAD THE SEALS REPLACED FOR ABOUT $200, BUT UNFORTUNATELY WE FOUND OUT THE HARD (EXPENSIVE) WAY $2000. IM A PERSON THAT TAKES CAR MAINTENANCE VERY SERIOUSLY, WE HAVE A CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AND HAVE HAD ABOUT 14 DIFFERENT FORD MODELS OVER THE YEARS, AND ITS BECOMING MORE APPARENT ANY FORD BUILT AFTER 2004 IS FILLED WITH ISSUES (TO ME FACTORY DEFECTS) THAT THEY AREN'T TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I WISH I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE WITH THE SEAL AS I WOULD HAVE ABOUT $ 1800 DOLLARS MORE IN MY BANK ACCOUNT. *TR
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY EDGE. I WAS TBONED IN MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR BY A CHEVY 1500 PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER THE TRUCK WAS TRAVELING APROX 50 MPH WHEN IT HIT ME. NONE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER SIDE OF HER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,319.
FORD RECALL 14S22 ON 2007 FORD EDGE MY CAR IS LEAKING GAS AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE I HAVE SPOKEN TO LANGWAY FORD WHO REFERRED ME TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REGARDING WHEN THE CAR COULD BE FIXED BUT AM UNABLE TO GET ANY INFO; THEY SAID THE RECALL IS TOO NEW AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY INFO ON PARTS OR WHEN THE PARTS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE. I NEED A RENTAL CAR OR LOANER AND THINK FORD SHOULD PROVIDE ONE UNTIL MY CAR CAN BE REPAIRED. WHAT CAN I DO? *TR
CAR SAT UN-DRIVEN IN GARAGE FOR 9 DAYS. WHEN CAR WAS TAKEN OUT AND DRIVEN, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. SPEED SHOWN CAR GOING 55 MILES AND HOUR BUT IT WAS NOT MOVING. PUT CAR IN REVERSE AND IT WOULD MOVE. PUT CAR IN DRIVE AND LOW GEARS AND CAR WOULD MOVE FORWARD VERY SLOWLY. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP STATED ONLY FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. MEANING A LOT OF MONEY HAD TO BE SPENT TO FIX THE CAR. THIS IS A VERY CLEAN CAR AND TAKEN IN FOR REGULAR TURN-UPS, WITH LOW MILES FOR THE AGE OF THE CAR. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, FORD HAS HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE THE STAND AND TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BEFORE THERE AREA ANY FATALITIES. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V682000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) BUT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
GENERALLY, SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES I WOULD COME TO A STOP, AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO GO THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, AND THERE IS AN ORANGE WRENCH THAT LIGHTS UP ON MY DASHBOARD. WHEN PLACING THE CAR BACK INTO PARK THERE WOULD BE A HARD SHIFT ON THE ENGINE. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND RESTARTING, IT WOULD WORK LIKE NORMAL. IT DOES IT VERY SPORADICALLY, SOMETIMES ONCE EVERY COUPLE MONTHS SOMETIMES A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK. IT SEEMS VERY RANDOM. TODAY IT DID IT TO ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40MPH. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAD DONE THIS WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WHEN IT HAPPENED THERE WAS A SPUTTER FROM THE ENGINE, LIKE A HARD SHIFT, AND THEN I NOTICED THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO GET CHECKED BUT THE MECHANICS CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES THAT COME UP. MY RESEARCH ONLINE SAYS THAT IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE POWER TRANSFER UNITS SEALS LEAKING, BUT I WOULD THINK THAT PROBLEM WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO NOT WORK WHEN RESTARTED. NOT TO MENTION THE OTHER SYMPTOMS OF A LEAK, INCLUDING SMELL, ARE NOT PRESENT. THE OTHER SOLUTION COMMONLY MENTIONED IS REPLACING SENSORS, BUT THEN A LOT OF THOSE REVIEWS SAY THEY END UP REPLACING SO MANY SENSORS AND THEN IT STILL HAPPENS.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I HAVE NOTICED NUMEROUS 2007 FORD EDGE OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE I HAD RECENTLY, LEAKING TRANSFER CASE PTU UNIT. I ALSO NOTICED THIS SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING WITH LINCOLN'S AND MAZDA'S OF SAME MODEL TYPE. I BELIEVE MAZDA HAS OFFERED OWNERS SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION/RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS MANUFACTURED DEFECT. MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS FORD GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT OWNERS HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT? 2007 EDGE SEL, ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AN "ODO DATA ERROR" APPEARED. THE "WRENCH AND AIRBAG" LIGHTS WERE LIT UP AS WELL. HARD CLUNK SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, CAR HAD NO POWER RAN RPM HIGHER STARTED TO SLOWLY ROLL. TURNED OFF CAR, UNCONNECTED BATTERY CABLE, CONNECTED BACK AND STARTED UP INSTRUMENT PANEL READ OUT WAS NOW CORRECT AND PUT INTO DRIVE AND IT DID A FEW HARD SHIFTS AS WE DROVE OUT, BUT RAN FINE ALL THE WAY HOME. I SEE MANY OTHERS STATING THIS SAME THING! I WILL TAKE THIS IN AGAIN AS I HAD ALREADY TAKEN FOR HARD SHIFTS, BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING. THIS TIME LOOKS LIKE OSS AND TSS FROM ALL THE READING I HAVE DONE ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
PERSISTENT SMELL AND LEAKING TRANSFER CASE THAT SPREAD THROUGHOUT UNDER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ALL OVER MY DRIVEWAY. VERIFIED THROUGH FORD DEALERSHIP: PTU FLUID LEAKING FROM THE INPUT SHAFT SEAL AND FROM UPPER VENT PORT. FLUID SAMPLE DIRTY/GRITTY WITH METAL. COSTLY REPAIR/REPLACEMENT CHARGE OF PTU ASSEMBLY, CLOSE TO $1500. I'M PUTTING IN THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I HEARD A LOT OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. NOTICED A GAS SMELL. FOUND A LEAKING GAS TANK WITH A PUDDLE UNDER MY CAR. *TR
I STARTED OFF TO WORK, GOING ABOUT 10MPH PUSHED THE BRAKE FOR A STOP SIGN AND MY CAR JERKED FORWARD. WHEN TRYING TO LEAVE THE STOP SIGN MY CAR WAS SLUGGISH TO TAKE OFF AND THEN SHIFTED HARD, WOULDN'T GO OVER 30MPH, ENGINE REVVING HIGH AND LOUD. I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED.. I MADE IT TO WORK WITH A SLUGGISH CAR AND NO SPEED OVER 32MPH. TOOK TO THREE PLACES TO HAVE SCANNED AND EVERYWHERE SAYS THERE'S NOTHING WRONG/NO CODES SHOWING. LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAYS A MONTH BEFORE I CAN GET IN TO BE SCANNED THERE. AFTER SEARCHING I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR 2007 FORD EDGE CONCERNING THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID OR SENSORS?! THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SEEM THAT IT COULD BE RATHER PRICEY SINCE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIG AROUND THE TRANSMISSION TO FIND THE ISSUE BECAUSE NO CODES ARE SHOWING.. I NEED THIS FIXED :( *TR
I WAS TURNING A CORNER SLOWLY WHEN THE CAR HALTED ABRUPTLY AND SLID SLIGHTLY ON THE GRAVEL ROAD. I WAS SURPRISED AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND OBSERVED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WAS ASKEW AND NOT MOUNTED ONTO THE CAR. THE BALL JOINT WAS BROKEN TOTALLY APART. THE AXLE WAS BROKEN, I HAD NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD. THE ROADWAY WAS CLEAR. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BALL JOINT AND AXLE HAD BROKEN APART. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A GARAGE. THE FORD GARAGE SAID THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER RECALL ON THE BALL JOINT. THIS EVENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I FEEL FORTUNATE TO BE UNINJURED BUT I WANT THIS EVENT NOTED BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN THAT YOU INVESTIGATED THE FORD EDGE 2007 FOR THIS FAILURE IN 2009. PLEASE REOPEN THIS INVESTIGATION *TR
FUEL LEAKING FROM GAS TANK ON MY AWD 2007 FORD EDGE. STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FUMES COMING FROM THE CAR. GOT IT CHECKED OUT, AND THE GAS TANK IS LEAKING WHERE THE TOP HALF OF THE TANK IS WELDED TO THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE TANK. SERVICE CENTER SAID TO KEEP THE TANK LESS THAN HALF FULL TO MINIMIZE GAS LEAKING FROM THE TANK. THE STRONG FUMES STILL CAUSE AN EXTREME HAZARD TO MY FAMILY. NO REPLACEMENT GAS TANK IS AVAILABLE IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES. NOW THIS CAR SITS MOTIONLESS IN MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
I KEPT HEARING A STRANGE NOISE WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT A PIN WAS BREAKING ON THE FRONT CALIPER ON THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. THEY REPLACED THE PIN, RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY, AND HUB. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. HUB ASSEMBLY WAS "WOBBLING" CAUSING THE PINS TO BREAK AND CAUSED MY BRAKE PADS TO RUIN. *TR
WILL BE DRIVING ALONG AT ANY SPEED AND CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE, IT DOES NOT STALL BUT WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND HASN'T CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT MOST CERTAINLY WILL EVENTUALLY. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN, BUT IS PHRASED AS STALLING WHEN IT TRULY DOESN'T STALL, ACCELERATOR JUST DOESN'T WORK AND CAR SLOWS DOWN QUICKLY IN TRAFFIC. *TR
GAS TANK IS RUSTING OUT ON TOP OF TANK AND ON SEAM. CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD TO REPLACE TANK AT A COST OF 2800.00 DOLLARS JUST FOR TANK. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE EXHAUST IS RIGHT BELOW THE TANK. HOW CAN A VEHICLE THAT IS 7 YEARS OLD BE RUSTING OUT A GAS TANK. I THINK FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN'T EVEN LOCATE A USED TANK TO REPLACE IT WITH. HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY A NEW TANK AT 2800.00. THEY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED TO REPLACE THESE TANKS, 07,08,09 AND SOME 2010 FORD EDGES ARE AFFECTED WITH THIS PROBLEM AND NOT JUST A COUPLE BUT PRACTICALLY EVERYONE SOLD! I REALLY LIKE MY EDGE BUT IF THEY WON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE OVER A SAFETY ISSUE THIS WILL BE THE LAST FORD I OWN. THANKS! *TR

LEAKING FUEL TANK. ADVISED BY TECHNICIAN NOT TO PARK INSIDE ENCLOSED GARAGE DUE TO FIRE HAZARD. FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE OF LEAKING FUEL TANKS ON THESE MODEL VEHICLES AND IS NOT ASSISTING OWNERS IN REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT. REPLACEMENT COST $2,018 AND TANKS ARE ON BACK ORDER. THE ENTIRE TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $2,200.00 ROUGHLY. THE IRONIC THING HERE THE FUEL TANK IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER AND HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THIS PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED!!!! THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS RUSTED, CAUSING THE FUEL TO LEAK ON THE EXHAUST. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. I HAVE AN 2007 FORD EDGE, FILLED THE TANK, THE NEXT DAY SMELLED A FUEL ODOR, 1 WEEK LATER SEEN THAT THERE IS A GAS LEAK. I BEGAN TO SMELL A STRONG GAS SMELL, THEN I SAW DROPS OF GAS ON MY DRIVEWAY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED ME THE FUEL TANK WAS RUSTED WITH A HOLE, THUS THE LEAK. THE REPAIR WAS VERY COSTLY, I ASKED THEM TO PURSUE A USED FUEL TANK. AFTER RESEARCHING EXTENSIVELY, THE DEALER AND I FOUND THAT ALL OF THE USED FUEL TANKS ALSO HAVE HOLES AND ARE RUSTED. THE DEALER WENT FORWARD WITH REQUESTING A NEW FUEL TANK, ONLY TO FIND THAT FORD HAS THEM ON BACKORDER WITH AN ETA OF NEVER. THE DEALERSHIP REP CALLED FORD TO FIND THEY ARE NO LONGER MAKING THE FUEL TANK, THERE IS NO SUPPLIER FOR THE FUEL TANK. I AM LEFT WITH A CAR THAT CANNOT BE REPAIRED PROPERLY. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2007 FORD EDGE SE. WE RECENTLY SMELLED GAS COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. THE FORD DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK DUE TO CORROSION AND WOULD NEED A NEW GAS TANK AND FUEL PUMP THAT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1,800 TO $2,500 TO FIX. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO COMPLETE THE WORK WITHOUT PAYMENT SINCE NO RECALL HAS BEEN GIVEN FOR THE 2007 EDGE. WE WERE LEFT WITH THE OPTIONS OF PAYING FOR A NEW GAS TANK AND FUEL PUMP OR CALLING FORD TO COMPLAIN. ANOTHER MECHANIC EXPLAINED TO US THAT THE GAS TANK IS A DESIGN DEFAULT BY FORD AND NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE TANK BY US. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RUN VERY ROUGH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STALLED. I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED, RAN VERY ROUGHLY AND HAD ALMOST NO POWER. I WAS IN TOWN SO I DROVE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER PULLED A ERROR CODES INDICATING A FAILED POWER CONTROL MODULE WHICH LED TO THE FAILURE OF THREE OF THE SIX COIL ON PISTONS. THIS IS AN IDENTIFIED PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL YEAR WITH A TSB IN PLACE. FORD WAS COVERING THE COST OF FAILURES FOR VEHICLES UNDER 80,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE, WITH 97,000 MILES DID NOT QUALIFY. FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE UNITS. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND COULD LEAD TO ENGINE SHUTDOWN AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IT COST $2,097 FOR REPAIR. TO BE FAIR, THE PRICE INCLUDED REPLACING THE SPARK PLUGS SINCE THEY WERE COMING DUE SO THE TRUE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS ABOUT $1,950. THE PCM WAS A BAD DESIGN PRONE TO FAILURE AND FORD SHOULD ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT RIGHT WITH CUSTOMERS. I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AND THEY OFFERED NO RELIEF, EXCEPT TO DOCUMENT BY DISPLEASURE. *TR

I DETECTED A FAINT ODOR OF GASOLINE. A WEEK LATER AFTER VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT THERE WAS AN OVERWHELMING ODOR OF GAS AROUND THE VEHICLE. TRANSMISSION SPORADICALLY SHIFTS HARD AND CHUGS. AS YET THERE ARE NO WARNING INDICATIONS ON DASH OR COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH MANY FORD EDGE OWNERS. BECAUSE PROBLEM IS SPORADIC THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH DIAGNOSIS AND OF COURSE FORD DOESN'T ADMIT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SAFETY CONCERN IF THE VEHICLE WERE TO MALFUNCTION UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. THERE IS SOME BELIEF THAT THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY SENSORS OR SOLENOIDS ON THE TRANSMISSION BUT AGAIN THE PROBLEM IS VERY HARD TO DIAGNOSE. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2007 FORD EDGE SEL AWD. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS PAST THURSDAY (09/11/2014) WHEN I PUT $40.00 WORTH OF GAS IN IT WHEN IT WAS CLOSE TO EMPTY. AFTER PUTTING IN $40.00 WORTH OF GAS, IT GAVE ME A APPROXIMATELY 3/4 TANK OF GAS. I THEN PARKED IT AT MY PLACE OF WORK (NO INCLINE OF ANY SORT) AND STARTED TO SMELL GAS. THE TANK IS LEAKING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE UNDERNEATH. AFTER WORK, I DROVE HOME (MAYBE 10 MILES) AND HAVE NOT EVEN MOVED THE VEHICLE UNTIL TODAY (09/13/2014) AND ONLY HAVE 1/4 TANK OF GAS LEFT. NOT ONLY IS IT LEAKING GAS BUT THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WREAKS. I HAVE A 2 MONTH OLD CHILD WHO I AM AFRAID TO TAKE IN THE VEHICLE NOW BECAUSE THE SMELL IS SO STRONG. MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL. SHE WAS IN A 45 MILE PER HOUR ZONE. A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HER SO SHE LET OFF OF THE GAS. WHEN SHE PUSHED ON THE GAS AGAIN HER CAR WOULD NOT GO. THE RPMS WENT WAY UP BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T GO. THE WRENCH (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) CAME ON. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT MADE ONE LOUD POP/PUFF NOISE. THE SMELL OF GASOLINE VAPORS WERE DETECTED WHEN EVER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER SHIP AND IT WAS DETERMINED BY A FORD TECHNICIAN THAT THE FUEL TANK IS LEAKING. THE FUEL TANK IS A TWO PIECE STEEL DESIGN THAT IS WELDED TOGETHER AT THE SEEM. THE WELDED JOINT IS CORRODING AND CAUSED THE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A ACCIDENT NOR HAS THE FUEL TANK HAD ANY MAINTENANCE CONDUCTED ON IT. THIS FUEL TANK WAS AN OEM PART AND INSTALLED BY THE OEM ONLY. FORD HAS INDICATED THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE, AND DO NOT HAVE A SUPPLIER TO MANUFACTURE REPLACEMENT FUEL TANKS. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH NEITHER THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON DRIVER DOOR NOR THE PUSH BUTTON ON MY KEY FOB. ALL OTHER DOORS WILL LOCK. WHEN MY SON HAS A SEIZURE NEXT TO ME AND I PULL OVER TO ASSIST, I CANNOT GET HIM OUT OF THE DOOR. HE IS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR HIMSELF OF COURSE. DEALERSHIP NOTED THAT THE GAS TANK HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AND WAS LEAKING AT THE SEAM. (ALTHOUGH I DO LIVE IN A NORTHERN STATE, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN GARAGED DURING WINTER, WASHED APPROPRIATELY, WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE). THE DEALERSHIP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WERE EXTREMELY POOR. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL, THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT- THIS WILL NOT BE THE FIRST REVIEW THAT YOU WILL READ ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH, THE 2007-2009 MODELS HAVE THE SAME FUEL TANK AND THE 2008 MODEL HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. A 7 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE GAS TANK REPLACED, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS NOTED AT THE SEAM. THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT IS A SAFETY LIABILITY THAT FORD DOES NOT WANT TO CLAIM AND REFUSES TO PUT THE SAFETY OF IT'S CUSTOMERS ABOVE THE FINANCIAL BURDEN THIS WOULD CAUSE THEM.
