I WAS PERFORMING PREVENTATIVE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE ON MY 2010 FORD EDGE. I HAD JUST COMPLETED A BASIC OIL CHANGE, TO INCLUDE BOTH OIL FILTER AND AIR FILTER CHANGE ALONG WITH TOPPING OFF OF ALL VEHICLE FLUIDS. I LASTLY ATTEMPTED TO ROTATE THE VEHICLE TIRES WHEN I NOTICED THAT TWO OF THE VEHICLES LUG NUTS WHERE JUST FREE SPINNING ALONG THE WHEEL STUD OR BOLT. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE LUG NUTS HAD JUST STRIPPED AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THEM WHEN THE ENTIRE LUG NUT AND WHEEL STUDS (BOLT) CAME COMPLETELY OFF THE WHEEL HUB. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE IS ONLY TWO (2) YEARS OLD AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, NOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLES WHEEL STUDS. THE WHEEL STUDS ALONG WITH THE LUG NUTS ARE THE COMPONENTS THAT HOLD THE TIRES SECURELY TO THE VEHICLES. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO LOCATE THE VEHICLE AT THE LOCAL PARTS STORES, I SPENT SEVERAL HOURS ON THE WEB TRYING TO FIND THE REPLACEMENT WHEEL STUDS TO NO AVAIL. HOWEVER, I DID FIND WHERE FORD MOTOR VEHICLE COMPANY HAS RECALLED SEVERAL 2010 FORD FOCUS AND 2010 FORD FUSION FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TO QUOTE "LUG NUT, BOLT OR STUD WERE FOUND DEFECTIVE, (SHEARED COMPLETELY OFF) ON SEVERAL 2010 FORD FUSION MODELS." WHEN I APPROACHED THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO ORDER REPLACEMENT WHEEL STUDS THEY ACTED SUPRISED AND NON-CHALANT CONCERNING THE PROBLEMS AND SIMPLY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. IS THIS RELATED? *TR
ON 05/01/2013 I ENTERED INTO A PARKING LOT IN A SHOPPING MALL, WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE BRAKING TO STOP AT A 15 OR 20 MILES PER HOUR, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED, THE RPMS JUMPED ABOUT 2000 MORE (1500 TO 3500 APROX.) AND I LEFT THE TIRES PRINTS OVER THE PAVEMENT BECAUSE I PUT THE BRAKE FULLY PRESSED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS ACCELERATING WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO CRASH NOR INJURIES TO PASSENGERS OR PEDESTRIANS, BUT I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO SEVERAL PERSONS AROUND THE COUNTRY, SO I ASK IF THIS GOVERNMENT AGENCY WOULD ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY AND A HIGH RISK SITUATION. THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE/BLINKER LIGHT SOCKET IS BURNED BLACK WHERE THE LIGHT BULB CONNECTS TO THE SOCKET. I'VE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON LINE. THIS IS ACTUALLY THE 2ND TIME I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE BULB, BUT I DID NOT RECORD THE MILEAGE (ESTIMATE ABOUT 40,000 MILES) THE FIRST TIME. WHEN I REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME, I NOTICED THE SOCKET WAS BURNED THEN TOO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR FAILED TO CLOSE AND THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOWNSEND FORD (340 MAIN ST, TOWNSEND, MA 01469, 888-708-7319) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ACTON FORD (76 POWDER MILL RD, ACTON, MA 01720, 978-897-7000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH ASSEMBLY AND HOUSING SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
BOTH TAIL LIGHT SOCKETS FAILED AND MELTED. *TR
WE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A TIRE BLOWOUT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE ON OUR 2010 FORD EDGE WHILE TRAVELING SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 81 SOUTH JUST OUTSIDE OF SCRANTON PA. AT THE TIME OF THE BLOWOUT WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 60MPH. WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE THE TIRE I OBSERVED THAT THE WHEEL (RIM) HAD STARTED TO COLLAPSE AND THE OUTER RIM HAD SEPARATED FROM THE HUB ABOUT 75% OF THE WAY. WE DID NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING THAT WE CAN REMEMBER. THERE WAS NO NOISE THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE EXPECTED IF SOMETHING WAS IN THE ROAD AND NEITHER OF US HEARD ANYTHING BUT THE NOISE OF THE TIRE BLOWOUT. (IF THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE ROAD, HOW DID THE FRONT TIRE NOT CONTACT IT AS WELL??) THE ROAD WAS CLEAR AHEAD OF US. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, BUT HAD TO "INCH" ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 200YDS TO GET TO A SAFE POINT TO CHANGE THE TIRE. AFTER THAT, WE WENT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE, AS WE WERE NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING ANOTHER 500 MILES ON A "MINI" SPARE TIRE. THE DEALER SHARED WITH US THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. AFTER SOME EXAMINATION WE DID NOTICE A TINY PUNCTURE OF THE TIRE ON THE INSIDE SURFACE OF THE TIRE. THERE IS A CORRESPONDING "PUSHED IN" SURFACE OF THE ALUMINUM WHEEL. (I HAVE PHOTOS AVAILABLE, AS WELL AS THE WHEEL AND TIRE). I REPORT THIS AS A CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT HAD THE WHEEL SEPARATED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY DID NOTHING TO ASSIST WITH THIS DEFECTIVE WHEEL. WE ARE ALSO NOT FEELING COMFORTABLE THAT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN IF WE GET ANOTHER BLOWOUT. SO FAR THIS HAS COST US ABOUT $1,000 FOR REPLACEMENT WHEEL & TIRE. *TR
HEADLAMP LENS, ESPECIALLY DRIVERS SIDE HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE LENS. THESE ARE NUMEROUS AND AFFECT THE MAJORITY OF THE LENS SURFACE. THESE CRACKS ARE SO NUMEROUS THAT I AM AFRAID THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE LENS IS IN QUESTION. *TR
WHILE MERGING ON TO I95, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO STUTTER AND WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO GEAR. I MANAGED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT BUT THE SAME ISSUE HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN CONSTANTLY AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT A LATCH IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG NEEDS REPLACEMENT.
SERIOUS ISSUE WITH DAILY LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE RANGING FROM 3 TO 18 LBS, IN 2010 FORD EDGE SPORT WITH 22' WHEELS. TSB FROM FORD INDICATES THEY ARE AWARE BUT WILL NOT RECALL/REPLACE WHEELS. TSB INDICATES PROBLEM CAUSED BY CORROSION/DIRT ON TIRE BEAD SEAT AREA, PREVENTING PROPER SEAL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED TO DEALER 8 TIMES, RIMS/TIRES CLEANED, BEAD SEALER ADDED EVERY TIME, VALVE STEMS CHANGED, TIRE SLIME ADDED EVERY TIME, MOUNT, REBALANCE & ROTATE EVERY TIME, YET STILL NO RESOLUTION. TIRE PRESSURE LOSS OCCURS WITHIN 4 DAYS EVERY TIME RETURNED FROM DEALER. CURRENTLY ESCALATED, THROUGH NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO FORD MOTOR CO, AND AWAITING RESPONSE. *TR
WHEN USING BRAKES THE DRIVERS SEAT WILL ROCK FORWARD. WHEN ACCELERATING THE DRIVERS SEAT WILL ROCK BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH AND CRASHED INTO TWO VEHICLES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEST AND NECK INJURIES AS A RESULT. THE DRIVERS OF THE OTHER TWO VEHICLES WERE ALSO REPORTED INJURED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 15,000.
ON TWO OCCASIONS - ONE IN AN EMPTY PARKING LOT AND ANOTHER AT A STOP LIGHT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC - WHILE BRAKING TO STOP, THE VEHICLE UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED AND WANTED TO LURCH. HAD BRAKE FULLY PRESSED AND THE RPM'S JUMPED FROM 1500 TO 3500. ONLY WAY, ON SECOND OCCASION, TO STOP COMPLETELY WAS TO IMMEDIATELY PUT VEHICLE INTO PARK. RPM'S THEN RETURNED TO 1500. THESE INSTANCES HAPPENED TO ME AS THE DRIVER AND I HAD OTHERS IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME AS WITNESSES. I WON'T LET MY 16 YEAR OLD SON DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS HANCOOK DYNAPRO A/S TIRES, SIZE 235/65/R17, WHICH WERE EQUIPPED ON 2010 FORD EDGE. WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. THE TIRE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED AND THE TIRE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 18,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
CAR JERKS AND ANTI LOCK/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM TRIES TO ENGAGE DURING TURNS TO LEFT PULLED CODES FROM CAR THEY WERE P1650 POWER STEERING ,DEALER SAID THIS WAS TIED TO ANTI ROLL AND ALSO CONTROL TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE SYSTEM AND WOULD COST ME 930.00 TO REPAIR, NEXT CODE WAS P1703 BRAKE SWITCH,THEN CODE P1780 TRANSMISSION CONTROL. ITS OBVIOUS FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS THEIRS A PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF AUTO..RESEARCH ON INTERNET SHOW THIS SAME PROBLEM SINCE 2007 OR SO TO PRESENT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS RELEASED AND THE VEHICLE INCREASED SPEED WITH OUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNTIL CRASHING INTO A BUSH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED. THE CRASH CAUSED NO INJURIES AND THE POLICE WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,912 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,500.
THE RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHT BULB #4157 HAS BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE SOCKET AND THE PLASTIC ON THE BULB IS MELTED AND DISCOLORED. FORD SAYS THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS BUT THERE ARE A GREAT NUMBER OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. WITH THIS MUCH HEAT THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF A FIRE AND NO FUSE OR CIRCUIT BREAKER HAS BEEN TRIPPED.
REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILURE.
ON 1/21/12, I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, THE ENGINE MADE A FUNNY NOISE AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD CRASHING INTO A FORD MUSTANG. THIS CRASH SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED SINCE MY FOOT HAD THE BRAKE DEPRESSED. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A HALT AFTER HITTING THE MUSTANG, I HAD TO PULL THE GEAR SHIFT OUT OF "PARK" TO BACK UP OFF THE DAMAGED VEHICLE. AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO RANDALL FORD TO BE CHECKED OUT, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. THEY TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THAT MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH PEDALS. THIS IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IN MY CAR UNLESS MY FOOT WAS TURNED AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE FROM IT'S NORMAL POSITION. IF MY FOOT HAD SLIPPED OFF THE BRAKE AND HIT THE GAS I WOULD HAVE SAID THAT AND NEVER TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN TO BE INSPECTED. I KNOW FORD NEVER WANTS TO ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES BUT I URGE THE "POWERS THAT BE" TO GO BACK INTO THEIR ISSUE HISTORY AND CHECK OUT THE ISSUES YOU HAD WITH THE FORD FREESPIRIT SURGING FORWARD ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. I WOULD LIKE FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUS WHILE MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I CANNOT AFFORD AN $8000. REPAIR. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO STATE THAT IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE MUSTANG IT HIT, THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY HURT OR KILLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT TIRES WOULD LOSE PRESSURE CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ROTATED THE TIRES, REPLACED THE TIRES VALVES AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED AND THE TIRES CONTINUED LOSE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
STARTED NOTICING A VIBRATION IN STEERING AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN PULLING INTO OR OUT OF PARKING SPACES. TOOK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AT 34,000 MILES A FEW WEEKS LATER AND DEALER AT FIRST COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, THEN WITH MY HELP IDENTIFIED IT AS A POWER STEERING PUMP AND REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, SAY ISSUE AND THEY THEN STATED IT WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF CAR MODEL. WARRANTY HAS SINCE EXPIRED AND HAS GOTTEN SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE AND MILEAGE IS CURRENTLY 49K AS I AM A SALES REP AND LOG A LOT OF MILES. I ALSO BEGAN GETTING A LOUD POPPING NOISE IN THE FRONT FROM BOTH SIDES AT ABOUT 38K MILES, PREDOMINANTLY LEFT SIDE, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING LOW SPEED TURNS AND/OR GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS, LIKE WHEN ENTERING OR LEAVING A PARKING LOT. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT HAVE HAD A LOCAL MIDAS CHECK FOR AN ISSUE TWICE WITH NOTHING FOUND, BUT ISSUE IS ALSO GETTING MUCH WORSE. *TR
MY FORD EDGE 2010 HAS ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR NOW HAS 76,000 MILES BUT ABOUT EVERY 20,000 MILES I HAVE A VIOLENT TRANSMISSION SHIFT. IT IS EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE CONTROLS. THE CAR WILL BE GOING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE IS A LOUD NOISE AND JERKING BACK AND FORTH FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANNY IS FALLING OUT OR HAS ROCKS IN IT. I TOOK IT TO FORD MANY TIMES AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT ALL THEY DO IS UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ( AND CHARGE ME). THEY KEEP SAYING THERE IS A FIX FOR THE ISSUE IN THE SOFTWARE BUT IT DOESN'T FIX THE ISSUE. THEY GAVE ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I ASKED WHY THEY DON'T PULL THE TRANNY PAN IN LOOK FOR LOOSE METAL OR ISSUES AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO CHARGE ME. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO PAY THERE OWN GUYS TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM AND THEY DON'T GET REIMBURSED BY FORD FOR THIS SO THEY AREN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING EXCEPT PUT A RECORDER ON MY CAR FOR 30 DAYS AGAIN. I TOLD THEM IT IS INTERMITTENT. THEY OFFERED TO SELL ME A NEW CAR OR FIND ANOTHER EDGE WITH 76,000 AND PUT ME IN THAT. I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND MONEY ON ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE I JUST SPENT 34,000 ON THIS ONE AND GIVING ME ANOTHER EDGE THE SAME AGE I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT PROBLEMS I COULD HAVE WITH THAT. IN OTHER WORDS FORD ISN'T WORRIED ABOUT MY ISSUE UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT. THE WARRANTY DOESN'T MEAN A THING TO THEM. IF IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT I WILL SUE THEM FOR EVERYTHING FOR SELLING ME A DEFECTIVE CAR AND NOT STANDING BEHIND IT. *TR
HIGH PITCH NOISE COMING FROM INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. HIGHLY AUDIBLE OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. MOST PROMINENT AROUND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL. SOURCE SEEMS TO BE FROM FUEL PUMP. THE DEALERSHIP IN BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS HAS REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP TWICE TO NO AVAIL. HAVE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS WITHOUT MUCH SUCCESS. THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME TYPE OF SYSTEMIC DENIAL THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTS. COMMENTS RECEIVED WERE "IT'S NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE OR IT'S A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE." IF TRUE THEN WE NO LONGER TO ISSUE RECALLS ON VEHICLE. WE CAN SIMPLY SAY THE ABOVE. PLEASE GOOGLE "FUEL PUMP IN FORD EDGE OR HIGH PITCH NOISE IN FORD EDGE". THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT A CHATTER GOING BACK A NUMBER OF YEARS. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. SUSTAINED INTERIOR EXPOSURE TO THIS NOISE RINGING IN MY EARS AND HEAD HAS CAUSED MILD HEADACHES. THIS IS QUITE DANGEROUS TO MYSELF AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC AS IT COULD LEAD TO DISTRACTED DRIVING. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ENCOURAGE FORD TO RESOLVE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 15 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD TO APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE POST. THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED DURING THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT SUFFERED ELEVEN BROKEN RIBS AND A BROKEN KNEE CAP. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 31,000. I HAD TO PUT IT BACK INTO DRIVE. THEN WHEN PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY UPON ACCELERATION AT 11000 MILES. WE PURCHASED A 2010 FORD EDGE BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY TESTS OF THESE VEHICLES. IT HAS SINCE DEVELOPED A DELAY IN TAKE OFF ABOUT TWICE PER MONTH. IT IS ALMOST LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGED, THEN VIOLENTLY ENGAGES AND LURCHES THE VEHICLE FORWARD. LAST MONTH A CAR HAD TO SLAM IT'S BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING MY WIFE AND CHILDREN AS THE CAR DELAYED, AND BEFORE MY WIFE COULD GET ON THE BRAKE, IT ENGAGED AND LURCHED THE CAR INTO TRAFFIC. THEY DENIED THAT THE GASH HAPPENED AT THEIR SERVICE DEPT. WHEN I PULLED AWAY FROM THE SERVICE DEPT. THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME SURGING FORWARD AND THE RPM'S JUMPED AGAIN. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. ASAP! THEY HAD ME RETURN IMMEDIATELY, AND I WENT THROUGH HELL TO GET A LOANER CAR WHILE MY VEHICLE SAT IN THE SERVICE DEPT THROUGH THE WEEKEND. ON MONDAY OF THE FOLLOWING WEEK, THE SERVICE DEPT MGR CALLED ME TO LET ME KNOW THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. WHEN I PICKED UP THE EDGE THAT EVENING, I HAD THE SERVICEMAN RIDE WITH ME. MY EDGE DID IT AGAIN, AND I DEMONSTRATED HOW IT ALSO DID IT WHILE SET ON CRUISE. THIS WAS NOT A SLIP OF MY FOOT AS ASSUMED BY THE SERVICE MGR. THEY DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE, BUT ONLY STATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WHEN I'M SUBJECTED TO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A SURGING VEHICLE. THE REAR TAIL LIGHT BULBS HAVE A VERY SHORT LIFE SPAN, EVERY TIME I REPLACE ONE, THE BASE OF THE BULB IS ALWAYS MELTED. THE SOCKETS THEMSELVES ARE BURNT, WHY ARE THESE TAIL LIGHTS GETTING SO EXCESSIVELY HOT?
SUDDEN, UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OF MY 2010 FORD EDGE VEHICLE: I TURNED INTO MY HOUSE DRIVEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 MILES/HOUR SPEED. AS SOON AS I TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY AND UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATED. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. I SWERVED TO AVOID MY GARAGE, BUT ENDED UP DAMAGING BADLY ONE GARAGE DOOR AND THE OUTER CORNER OF MY GARAGE WALL. THE CAR THEN CRASHED AGAINST A TREE IN MY LAWN AND CAME TO A STOP. THERE WAS BAD DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR. I WAS NOT HURT. THERE WAS NO INJURY TO ANYONE ELSE. I CALLED IN THE POLICE. WHEN THE OFFICER ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED, I TOLD HIM THAT I MIGHT HAVE ACCELERATED THE CAR IN ERROR, BUT I WAS NOT SURE IF THERE WAS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. IN THE MONTH PRECEDING THE ACCIDENT, ON 2 OR 3 OCCASIONS, THE RPM GAUGE IN THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JUMP FROM APPROXIMATELY 1500 RPM TO APPROXIMATELY 3500 RPM FOR NO OBVIOUS REASON, THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT JERK IN THE CAR BUT NO ACCELERATION OF THE CAR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE RPM WILL GO BACK DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 1500 RPM BY ITSELF. I DID NOT REMEMBER THESE INCIDENTS WHEN I SPOKE TO THE INVESTIGATING POLICE OFFICER. THESE 2 TO 3 EPISODES IN THE MONTH PRECEDING THE ACCIDENT MAKES ME SUSPECT THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT DUE TO HUMAN ERROR, BUT DUE TO AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS EVALUATED THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND MY HOME AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF SETTLING THE CLAIMS. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE INVOICE, THE POWER TRAIN ICON ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER FOUND THE THROTTLE STUCK CLOSED. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HEIGHT OF THE FRONT HEAD RESTS. THE TOP OF THE HEAD RESTS WERE HIGHER THAN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER HEADS AND AT A SHARP ANGLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RAISE OR LOWER THE HEAD REST TO THE HEIGHT OF DRIVER AND PASSENGER EARS. *JB

THERE IS A RECALL FROM THE MFG FOR THE IDLE CONTROLLER. HOWEVER, THERE IS A BACKORDER FOR THE PART UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER.
