AFTER CLOSING MY CAR DOOR IT STILL SAYS THAT THE DOOR IS OPEN AND THE LIGHTS STAY ON, EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR IS CLOSED. I ALSO CAN NOT LOCK MY CAR DOOR AND I HAVE TO CLOSE OR SLAM IT REPEATEDLY BEFORE IT FINALLY SAYS IT'S CLOSED AND THE LIGHTS GO OUT. THIS HAS SOMETIMES TAKEN UP TO 20 MINUTES. GOT IT FIXED ONCE AND IT STARTED DOING THIS AGAIN WITHIN 6 MONTHS. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND BEING THAT THE DOOR WON'T LOCK EVEN WHEN DRIVING THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!
THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON, IT WON'T SHUT OFF. SAME WITH INTERIOR LIGHTS BECAUSE OF THIS. IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
THE DRIVER'S DOOR AJAR ALERT AND CHIME SHOWS UP WHEN THE DOOR IS CLEARLY CLOSED TIGHTLY. THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AJAR LIGHT ON. INTERIOR LIGHTING WILL NOT TURN OFF. USER CAN'T LOCK DOORS WHILE DRIVING. DOME LIGHT STAYS ON DRAINING BATTERY.
THE FIRST TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STREET AND HAD SLOWED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO A RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT. JUST AS I MADE THE TURN THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY AND IMMEDIATELY LOST FORWARD MOMENTUM - IT WAS LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL - I HAD NO ACCELERATION. A WRENCH APPEARED ON MY DRIVER'S DISPLAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO A STOP AND I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. IT TOOK SEVERAL SECONDS LONGER THAN NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO START BUT IT DID. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. I HAD BACKED MY VEHICLE OUT OF MY PARKING PLACE AND JUST AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY AND I AGAIN LOST ANY ACCELERATION. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. AGAIN, IT LOOK SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THE THIRD TIME I WAS DRIVING 55 DOWN A ROAD WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST MOMENTUM. SAME DEAL WITH LIMPING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PRAYING THIS TIME THAT NOTHING WAS COMING AS THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY HALF OFF THE ROAD. IT STARTED WITH EFFORT. IN EACH OCCURRENCE THE WRENCH APPEARED. THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED OVER A PERIOD OF 13 DAYS. I CONTACTED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SATURDAY AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE. THE MECHANIC SAID HE WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM - THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I DECIDED TO DO SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD FOR NOT MAKING THIS PROBLEM MORE OF A PRIORITY. DOES THERE NEED TO BE A LOSS OF LIFE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE? WE WILL BE DRIVING SEVERAL STATES AWAY IN JUST A FEW WEEKS AND I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONFIDENCE IN MY VEHICLE. I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO BE TRAVELING 75 MILES AN HOUR ON A FREEWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECIDES IT DOESN'T WANT TO COOPERATE. VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 95 IN VIRGINIA, A WARNING POPPED UP ON MY DASHBOARD, AS THE WARNING POPPED UP MY VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION, AND I WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE HIGHWAY SPEED. THE ONLY THING I COULD DO WAS STOP MY VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND STARTED IT BACK UP, TO TRY AND MOVE IT TO A SAFER LOCATION, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE ALL POWER. I FINALLY MADE IT TO A SAFE LOCATION OFF OF THE INTERSTATE. I HAD A TOW TRUCK BRING ME TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH CAUSED THE ISSUE IN THE CAR. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING IN FORD VEHICLES. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE IF MY MOTHER AND FATHER IN LAW WERE NOT TRAVELING BEHIND MY VEHICLE. MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTIONING PART. FORD HAS NO REPORTS OF THIS WITH THEIR NEWER MODEL VEHICLES NOR DO THEY WARN THEIR CUSTOMERS ON WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONS. FORD HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO THEIR CUSTOMERS TO WARN THEM ABOUT THIS PART.
THE PASSENGER DOOR AJAR SENSOR REMAINS ON EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS RESULTS IN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINING ON AND DRAINING THE BATTERY.
MY DOOR LATCH ON MY 2011 FORD EDGE WONT SECURE PROPERLY. SINCE IT WONT SECURE, MY DOORS WONT LOCK. MY 5 YEAR OLD OPENED DOOR WHILE VEHICLE MOVING TO GET BAG UNSTUCK. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE A HISSING NOISE BEGUN TO COME FORM THE BRAKES AS I PUSHED ON THE PEDAL. THE CAR STOPPED, BUT THE PEDAL FELT SPONGY AND I HAVE TO PUSH ON IT HARDER THAN NORMAL TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE WHERE I COULD NOT STOP, BUT I AM AFRAID I MIGHT LOSE MY BRAKES EVENTUALLY.
THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR WILL NOT ALLOW THE DOOR TO BE LOCKED WHILE IN MOTION. ADDITIONALLY, IT WILL FORCE THE INTERIOR LIGHT TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED AFTER REMOVING THE KEY WHICH THEN DRAINS THE BATTERY REQUIRING CONSTANT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE.
EDGE DRIVERS DOOR AJAR, AND ITS NOT. DOORS DON'T LOCK, THEY THINK THE DOOR IS OPEN, INSIDE LIGHTS STAY ON.
DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON! HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CLEANED. COST $200.00, LESS THAN 6 MONTHS LATER SAME PROBLEM. SAFETY ISSUES BECAUSE OF THIS; DOME LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL A CERTAIN SPEED IS REACHED, DOORS DO NOT STAY LOCKED WHILE IN MOTION. MANY OF THESE SUVS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. VERY MUCH A SAFETY ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ADDRESSING THIS SAFETY CONCERN!
OUR FAMILY WAS DRIVING ON A HEAVILY TRAVELED BRIDGE AT 40MPH AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL POWER AND IDLED ROUGHLY, FORCING US TO TRAVEL ON THE BRIDGE AT JUST A FEW MILES AN HOUR WITH OUR FOUR-WAY FLASHERS ON UNTIL WE REACHED THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A WRENCH APPEARED ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN WITH THE MESSAGE AWD OFF. MY HUSBAND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT RAN FINE UNTIL WE DROVE IT AGAIN AND SAME THING HAPPENED. WE ARE FEARFUL FOR OUR SAFETY AND BEG FORD TO RECALL. I VISITED SEVERAL WEBSITES AND SAW WAY TOO MANY CONSUMERS WITH THIS SAME SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE ARE GOING TO GET IT EVALUATED BY A MECHANIC TOMORROW AND PRAY THAT WE ARE ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE IT TO THE GARAGE.
DRIVER DOOR AJAR COMES ON WHEN DOOR HAS NOT BEEN USED. THIS PREVENTS THE DOOR FROM BEING LOCKED AND IS THEREFORE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES. THERE ARE MULTIPLE INTERNET REPORTS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN MONTGOMERY AL AT 60MPH. IT WAS NOT RAINING, ROUGHLY 78 DEGREES. I HEARD A LOUD POP & THEN GLASS SHOWERED DOWN ON ME. THE SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THERE WAS NO PRIOR DAMAGE & IT WAS NOT HIT BY ANYTHING. THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND ME NOR DID ANYTHING FALL DOWN ON THE CAR. A HOLE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUN ROOF PROTRUDING OUTWARD AND IT WAS SHATTERED EVERY WHERE ELSE. I DO HAVE PICTURES. THE FORD DEALERSHIP STATED THEY HAVE HAD NO ISSUES WITH THIS HOWEVER, I HAVE FOUND OTHER REPORTED CASES. MY INSURANCE WILL BE TAKING CARE OF THIS SINCE FORD BRUSHED IT OFF.
DOOR AJAR SENSOR MALFUNCTION. SENSOR WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN DOOR IS ACTUALLY CLOSED. THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE. ALSO CAUSES A STRAIN ON BATTERY WHEN EXITING VEHICLE BECAUSE LIGHTS STAY ON FOR A WHILE. THIS IS OCCURRING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR.
WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES THE PEDAL FELT HARD AS IF THE POWER SYSTEM HAD FAILED AND I WAS TRYING TO BRAKE WITH THE ENGINE OFF. I HAD TO PRESS EXTREMELY HARD TO GET THE CAR TO STOP BEFORE HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF EDGE OWNERS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTERS SHOULD BE RECALLED.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF EVEN WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED PROPERTY, I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR.
CAR STALLED THREE TIMES. POWER WENT OFF AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. TOLD IT'S THE THROTTLE ACCUATOR STUCK OPEN. ERROR 2111, PICTURE OF WRENCH AND NOW ENGINE LIGHT ON. EVEN THOUGH I FOUND THIS ON YOUR WEBSITE FIRD REFUSED TO COVER. MAY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON ALL SOCIAL MEDIA SITES. FORD GAVE ME CASE NUMBER [XXX]. CAR STALLED TWICE. PREVIOUS COMPLAINT FILED BUT I CALLED AFTER FINDING RECALL NUMBER 10S14. CLALED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME NOT COVERING MY VIN EVEN THOUGH SITUATION IS THE EXACT SAME HAPPENINGS. YOUR REP TOLD ME TO FILE A NEW COMPLAINT BECASUE HE COUD NOT UPDATE THE ONE PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED; ODI NUMBER 10715241. HE STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIAGE AND PSOSSIBLE ADD MY VIN TO BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. ENTERING HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND ACCELLERATING WHEN CAR DE-ACCLERATED ON ITS OWN TO A CRIPPLING 2 MPH. MOVED OVER TO THE FAR RIGHT SIDE WITH CAR MOVING AT 2 MPH UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF HIGHWAY AND PART CAR. LET SIT 15 MINUTES AND CAR STARTED AND ACCLERATED APPROPRIATELY. 2 WEEKS LATER SAME THING. ACCLERATING FROM A STOP AT A STOP LIGH AND CAR DE-ACCLERATED ON ITS ON AND LIMPED TO 2 MPH UNTILL I COULD PULL OFF ROAD AND LET SIT. STARTED BADK UP AND DROVE OK. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER HAPPENED AGAIN. ON AUGUST 30, 2015 THE CAR BEGAN DOING THIS DAILY AND TOOK 9 TIMES OF LETTING CAR SIT AFTER IT DE-ACCLERATED TO GET HOME FROM WORK. CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY CLAIM NO RECALLS FOR THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM THAT FORD EDGES ARE HAVING. RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND SEE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS ISSUE. DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ON FORD EDGES INCLUDING THE 2011. CALLED FORD AND LODGED A COMPLAINT. TOOK CAR TO SKILLMAN FORD IN GREENWOOD INDIANA AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY AND NEEDED REPLACED. WAS INFORMED IT WOULD COST ME $664.71 FOR ME TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. WAS ALSO INFORMED THERE WERE NO FORD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS TO HELP ME PAY FOR REPAIRS ON THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS A FORD PROBLEM. I DID AUTHORIZE THE REPAIR AS I NEED MY CAR. I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH FORD AS THEY WILL NOT COVER THERE DEFECT AND IT IS A KNOWN FORD DEFECTIVE PART-THROTTLE BODY. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR FORD TO STEP UP AND COVER THEIR DEFECTS? AS MUCH AS I LOVE MY EDGE I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT BECAUSE THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAMS AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY (NOT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I GOT MY CAR REPAIRED) WHEN THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS AND GETTING THEM REPLACED BY FORD. SHAME ON YOU FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH SENSOR (DRIVER DOOR AJAR) WILL NOT GO OUT AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON AND THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK BECAUSE OF IT.
WHILE DRIVING, CAR LOST ALL POWER ON HIGHWAY, GAS PEDAL UNRESPONSIVE, PULLED OVER, RESTARTED CAR, RAN AS NORMAL. HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE, SOME WITH ENGINE WARNING, SOME WITHOUT. SUSPECTED THROTTLE BODY. CONTACTED FORD, WAS STATED NO RECALLS FOR THE EDGE ON THIS ISSUE. PURCHASED A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND INSTALLED. NO MORE PROBLEMS.
DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER CLOSING THE DRIVERS DOOR. (IN MY CASE, RIGHT NOW THE DRIVERS DOOR IS THE ONLY DOOR EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER I IMAGINE ANY DOOR WITH A FAULTY SENSOR WILL GENERATE THE SAME CONDITION) THIS PREVENTS THE DOORS FROM AUTOMATICALLY LOCKING, OR FOR THAT MATTER THEY CANNOT BE LOCKED AT ALL. ALSO THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON. THERE IS NO WAY TO OVERRIDE THIS. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BOTH BECAUSE THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK AND THE INSIDE LIGHTING MAY INTERFERE WITH VISIBILITY. FROM RESEARCH, THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT FORD NEED TO ADDRESS.

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND POWER TO THE ENGINE. YELLOW WRENCH SHOWED THERE WAS A WARNING, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED, BUT UPON TURNING OFF THE CAR (THE MAIN ELECTRONICS IE:RADIO/AC STILL WORKED) AND RESTARTING IT RESUMED "NORMAL" FUNCTIONS AND DRIVING. WE HAD SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAPPENED TO US. ALL OF THE OCCURRENCES HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF ACCELERATING AND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. TWO WERE ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS, ONE WAS IN A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND ONE (THE WORST) WAS ON THE FREEWAY 3 LANES OVER FROM THE RIGHT SHOULDER GOING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AT 70MPH. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNSUCCESSFUL N ASSISTING WITH THE PROBLEM BECAUSE WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. BUT OUR LATEST INCIDENT, ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2015 (THIS TIME THE WRENCH AND AWD OFF FLASHED), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS MORE THAN DANGEROUS IT IS A RUSSIAN ROULETTE OF WHETHER THE CAR WILL WORK OR NOT. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING 35 MILES PER HOUR AND TRIED TO BRAKE AND FOUND IT NON RESPONSIVE SO I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES FOR IT TO STOP. SLOWLY DROVE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2011 EDGE BRAKE BOOSTER. THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL AND SAID THEY WOULD FIX MY CAR AS IT WAS NON DRIVABLE. I JUST HAD THIS CAR SERVICED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WITH NO MENTION OF THE POSSIBLE LIFE THREATENING FAULT IN THE BRAKES. I ALMOST WRECKED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM HIDDEN FROM US THE OWNERS OF THESE CARS. I TOLD THEM THERE WAS AN AIR NOISE WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND THE DEALERSHIP NEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG. *TR
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY DRIVER DOOR SAYING IT IS AJAR WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY CLOSED. IT WON'T LOCK AND THE LIGHTS STAY ON, ALLOWING FOR THE BATTERY TO DRAIN IF LEFT FOR TOO LONG. THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WILL NOT SHUT OFF UNLESS I REPEATEDLY SLAM THE DOOR UNTIL IT REGISTERS THAT IT IS CLOSED. BESIDES, BEING A SAFETY ISSUE, IT IS HURTING MY SHOULDER BECAUSE I HAVE TO KEEP SHUTTING IT OVER AND OVER UNTIL IT REGISTERS. TWICE I HAVE GONE OUT IN OUR GARAGE AND NIGHT AND FOUND THE ENTIRE CAR LIT UP BECAUSE THE CAR THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN. AND IT WON'T LOCK AS LONG AS THE CAR THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN, WHICH CAN ALSO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE AS MANY, MANY PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET ARE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE. THE DRIVER DOOR IS NOT LOCKING WITH THE DOOR AJAR ALERT ON. FEEL UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING. LEFT THE VEHICLE ON AN AIRPORT PARKING LOT. THE RIVER DOOR AJAR WAS ON EVEN ALL THE DOORS WERE LOCKED. DOME LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON WHILE I WAS GONE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED WHEN HAD TO CALL SOMEONE FOR HELP. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED AT A SECURE PLACE. *TR
FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THE DOOR LATCH & AJAR SWITCH ASSEMBLY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS ASSEMBLY HAS FAILED AND I KNOW NUMEROUS OTHERS WITH FORDS WITH SAME ASSEMBLY THAT HAS FAILED IN OTHER MODELS. WHEN THEY GO BAD YOU DON'T KNOW IF THE DOOR IS SHUT OR OPEN, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WON'T GO OUT (THUS DRAWING ON THE BATTERY), AND YOU CAN'T TRUST THE SENSOR TO KNOW IF THE DOOR IS SHUT AND LOCKED OR NOT. IT IS A BAD DESIGN FROM THE START WITH THIS PART. IF THEY DON'T WANT TO RECALL EVERY CAR AND REPLACE, THEN THEY NEED TO OFFER AN UNLIMITED WARRANTY THAT THEY WILL FIX FOR FREE IF/WHEN IT DOES FAIL (AND NEED TO REIMBURSE PEOPLE THAT HAVE ALREADY HAD IT FIXED). *TR
WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 5 MPH IN MY DRIVEWAY AND TURNING TO PARK, I NOTICED A THIN STREAM OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, ABOUT 3/4 WAY UP THE HOOD TOWARD THE WINDSHIELD . I STOPPED, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND GOT OUT. WITHIN SECONDS THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH WHITE SMOKE AND THE SAME WHITE SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT ALL SIDES OF THE HOOD AND THE FRONT GRILL, FIRE WAS DROPPING FROM THE ENGINE ONTO THE GROUND, AND WITHIN ABOUT 30 SECONDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR WENT UP IN FLAMES THAT WERE SHOOTING 10-20 FEET INTO THE AIR. 2 MINUTES OF EXITING THE CAR IT WAS FULLY ENGULFED WITH 20-30 FT FLAMES AND THICK SMOKE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I NOTIFIED FORD OF THE INCIDENT AND THEY ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH OTHER EDGES. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE DESTROYED CAR THE DAY AFTER AND ALSO STILL HAVE THE CAR IF THERE'S ANY REASON TO INSPECT IT. *TR
LAST WEEK I REPORTED A FIRE THAT DESTROYED MY CAR ONLY SECONDS AFTER I SAW SMOKE AND GOT OUT. AFTER READING ALL THE 'DOOR AJAR' COMPLAINTS I WANTED TO ADD THAT I TOO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING HAPPENING OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO. IT WASN'T CONTINUOUS, SOMETIMES WHEN I SLAMMED THE DOOR REALLY HARD IT WOULD GO OFF, BUT WHEN LEAVING THE CAR AT NIGHT IN THE DRIVEWAY SOMETIMES I'D HAVE TO SLAM THE DOOR MANY TIMES FOR THE LIGHTS ON THE CAR TO GO OFF. I FOUND THAT IF THE DOOR AJAR WARNING WOULD NOT GO ON WHEN I STARTED IT UP TO DRIVE, IF I PUSHED THE "OK" CONTROL ON THE STEERING WHEEL THE CEILING LIGHT WOULD GO OFF, BUT THE DOOR AJAR RED LIGHTED SYMBOL ON THE DASH WOULD STAY ON. SINCE THE FIRE IN MY CAR WAS DEEMED CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL SOURCE BY THE FIRE CHIEF, I WONDER IF THIS ELECTRICAL/SENSOR ISSUE COULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. I'M SHOPPING FOR A NEW CAR NOW, AND I JUST FOUND THE SAME "DOOR AJAR" PROBLEMS ON THE 2012 - 2014 MODELS OF THE EDGE. HAS ANYONE LOOKED INTO THE RISK OF FIRE FROM THIS ISSUE? IT SEEMS A PROBLEM LIKE THIS GOING ON FOR YEARS IN THE FORD EDGE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN DOES THE GOVERNMENT ENFORCE A RECALL ON A PART THAT CONTINUES TO FAIL? PLEASE RECALL FORD EDGE 2011 DOOR LATCH. WORKS IMPROPERLY LEAVING DOOR AJAR AND DOME LIGHT ON. THIS HAS BURNED UP ONE BATTERY. OTHER FORD DOOR LATCHES HAVE BEEN RECALLED.
THE LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON AND DOES NOT GO OFF EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS SHUT. ALSO, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON FOR UP TO AN HOUR AFTER PARKING THE CAR, AND FOR 3-5 MINUTES AFTER STARTING THE CAR. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. IT HAS ALSO KILLED A BATTERY ALREADY.

THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH NOT WORKING PROPERLY INDICATES THE DOOR IS OPENED WHEN IT IS CLOSED. THERE FOR THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON TILL THE CAR REACHES 20 MILES PER HOUR OR ABOUT A CITY BLOCK WITCH MAKES IT HARD TO DRIVE AND COVER THE DOME LIGHT AT NIGHT SO U CAN SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD SO NOT TO BE BLINDED BY THE LIGHT .

DURING THE FAILURE, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ON APRIL 11, 2015, THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY ON THE ENGINE OF MY 2011 FORD EDGE FAILED WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON A 6-LANE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE INSIDE LANE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE ENGINE, AND I COASTED QUICKLY ACROSS 2 LANES TO A RIGHT TURN LANE. FORTUNATELY, EVERYONE REACTED POSITIVELY TO MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS AS I DECELERATED. ON MONDAY, APRIL 13, THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE CAR. AFTER RETURNING HOME, I CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION ON THIS FAILURE MODE AND WAS SURPRISED TO READ THAT FORD HAD A COUPLE YEARS EARLIER SETTLED A NHTSA COMPLAINT FOR SEVERAL FORD MODELS THAT EXHIBITED THE PROBLEM MY CAR EXPERIENCED. THE FORD EDGE WAS NOT PART OF THE SETTLEMENT. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED OTHER FORD EDGES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE. APPARENTLY, FORD WON A PARTIAL SETTLEMENT ON THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE FAILURE MODE IS AS DANGEROUS AS THE GENERAL MOTORS IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE. BOTH THE GM AND FORD FAILURE MODES RESULT IN THE SAME MANNER ' COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AND A HOPE TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO STOP. RECOGNIZING THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO ME, SHOULDN'T THE NHTSA REEXAMINE THIS FORD PROBLEM. IN MY CASE I'M JUST THANKFUL MY WIFE WASN'T DRIVING THE CAR. SHE WAS WITH ME WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED AND CLAIMED SHE WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN HOW TO REACT. I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 FORD EDGE ON A BUSY ROAD AND LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE JERKED, THEN STARTED SHAKING, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD. I WOULD PUSH THE PEDAL AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. HAD TO ROLL ALONG WITH FLASHERS ON UNTIL I REACHED A PARKING LOT ENTRY TO PULL INTO, AS THERE WAS NO SHOULDER ON THE ROAD I WAS ON. MEANWHILE, CARS WERE SPEEDING UP BEHIND ME AND PASSING MY CAR INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH ME. ONCE IN THE PARKING LOT, I TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT BACK ON (LESS THAN TWO SECONDS LATER), AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. TOOK THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD BY THEIR SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (VEHICLE HAD 57,000 MILES). *TR
FOR 2 YEARS I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN MY FORD EDGE. I'VE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES AND THEY'VE MISS DIAGNOSED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. NO ACCELERATION, NOTHING. AFTER GETTING TO THE DEALERSHIP THE REVERSE, GEAR 5 & 6 AND CLUTCH WERE DESTROYED WITH ONLY 60,128 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. FORD WILL ONLY ALLOW THE DEALER TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, INSTEAD OF REPLACING IT. MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS AT THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILES WITH ESCAPES, SPITFIRES, EXPLORERS AND OTHER EDGES. I AM ASKING FOR YOU TO LOOK INTO THIS FURTHER AND POSSIBLE ISSUE A RECALL.
