DOOR AJAR LIGHT WON'T GO OUT.
IN VIEW OF ALL THE CARS BEING RECALLED FOR FAILURE OF WHAT WOULD APPEAR TO BE RELATIVELY SIMPLE DEVICES, IT OCCURS TO ME THAT I SHOULD REPORT THIS INCIDENT, IN CASE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING IN LIGHT TRAFFIC ON A FOUR-LANE DIVIDED CITY STREET IN ATLANTA, GA, ON 3/17/13, A SUNDAY AFTERNOON, WITHOUT WARNING OF ANY KIND, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED. OF COURSE, I HAD NO POWER OR POWER STEERING, BUT FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY (FORTUNATELY THERE WAS A SHOULDER). THE FORD EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE SENT A TOW TRUCK, WHICH TOWED THE CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT. FOUND THAT THE FUEL SENDER HAD BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FUEL PUMP. OF COURSE, WITHOUT FUEL, THE ENGINE STOPPED. THEY RE-ATTACHED THE SENDER, AND I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEM. EVERYTHING WAS HANDLED PROMPTLY AND PROPERLY BY FORD. THERE WAS NO CHARGE, OF COURSE, AS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED JUST FIVE MINUTES EARLIER, I WAS IN THE INSIDE LANE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY (I-285) GOING 70 MPH. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE CAR TO SAFETY ACROSS FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER - OR ELSE STOP IN THE INSIDE LANE I WAS IN AND PRAY I DIDN'T GET HIT BEFORE THE TOW TRUCK CAME. A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO A POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM. I DOUBT THAT ANY ROUTINE TESTING OR MAINTENANCE WOULD HAVE REVEALED THIS POTENTIAL DETACHMENT. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL FLAW IN THE WAY THESE VITALLY IMPORTANT PARTS ARE ATTACHED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS POTENTIAL BEARS INVESTIGATION BY THE FHTSA. DRIVER'S DOOR AJAR SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD INDICATE THE DOOR WAS OPEN AT VARIOUS RANDOM TIMES, EVEN WHEN IT WAS CLOSED. TOOK CAR TO DEALER 3/2013 WHERE THEY SERVICED THE LATCH AND THE ISSUE RESOLVED FOR ABOUT A YEAR. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER AND THEY WOULDN'T REPAIR IT UNLESS I PAID FOR A NEW LATCH. CLEANING AND LUBRICATING THE LATCH SOMETIMES HELPED FOR A FEW HOURS OR DAYS BUT THE PROBLEM ALWAYS RETURNED. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING OR NOT, AND BOTH STATIONARY AND MOVING. REPLACED THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY 8/2016 (WHICH CONTAINS THE DOOR SWITCH) AND THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THE REPLACEMENT LATCH ASSEMBLY PART NO. 8T4Z-7821813-B HAS BEEN UPDATED TWICE PER FORD PARTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, EXHAUST FUMES EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100. UPDATED 09/21/15*LJ.
ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASING THE NEW FORD EDGE I PARKED ON A HILL. APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR AFTER EATING LUNCH, I LEFT A RESTAURANT WITH MY FAMILY. I PRESSED THE BRAKE BEFORE TURNING THE KEY AND THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I DROVE THE CAR HOME NOT KNOWING IF THE BRAKES WOULD GO OUT COMPLETELY. I HAD NO SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES AS I DROVE HOME. I CALLED FORD AND TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A CHECKUP. FORD STATED THAT THE FORD EDGE IS ENGINEERED TO ALLOW FOR THIS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WITH THE BAKES GOING TO FLOOR WHILE STARTING THE CAR AND WHILE STOPPED ON A HILL. FORD INSISTS THIS IS NOT A CONCERN. I AM CONCERNED AND TOLD THEM I DO NOT WANT THE CAR. THE REFUSED TO DISCUSS THIS ANY FURTHER. *TR
A CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD (COULD HAVE BEEN STARTED BY A ROCK STRIKE). EVERY TIME THE DEFROSTERS WERE RUN (IT WAS VERY COLD WEATHER), THE CRACK WOULD SPREAD. IT SPREAD ALL THE WAY TO THE OPPOSITE RIGHT CORNER IN LESS THAN A WEEK. *TR
WE WERE INVOLVED IN A FOUR CAR CRASH. WE WERE THE THIRD CAR. THE TRAFFIC WAS A LITTLE HEAVY AND STOP AND GO. THE TWO CARS IN FRONT OF US STOPPED FAST AND WE DID TOO. THEN WE LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW A HONDA ODYSSEY COMING AT US AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH. THE DRIVER SLAMMED INTO THE REAR OF OUR CAR. THE CAR STARTED ON FIRE AS SOON AS WE WERE HIT. I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND I COULD SEE THE FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE CAR. MY HUSBAND JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND I COULDN'T OPEN MY DOOR. MY HUSBAND THEN HIT THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON HIS SIDE AND THEN CAME AROUND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND GOT ME OUT OF THE CAR. I WAS CRYING AND TERRIFIED. A BUSINESS MAN CAME FROM ACROSS THE STREET AND TRIED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. HE HAD TO RETURN BACK TO HIS BUSINESS AND OUR NEW CAR WAS STILL ON FIRE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED AWAY. I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL. I WAS SORE FROM WHERE THE SEATBELT WAS AND FROM BEING SO BADLY JERKED BACK AND FORTH. I AM STILL RECEIVING SOME MEDICAL CARE. THE DRIVER OF THE HONDA ODYSSEY WAS FOUND AT FAULT AND ISSUED A TICKET. WE HAVE YET TO FIND OUT WHY THIS CAR STARTED ON FIRE. NO ONE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP COULD OR WOULD ANSWER THAT QUESTION. CAN YOU FIND THE ANSWER THIS QUESTION? IS THERE A DEFECT IN THIS CAR? THREE OLDER VEHICLES IN THIS ACCIDENT AND THE ONLY CAR THAT STARTS ON FIRE IS OUR BRAND NEW 2013 FORD EDGE WITH 5,000 MILES ON IT. FORD SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM WHEN A BRAND NEW CAR STARTS ON FIRE. *TR
I DID BUY A BRAND NEW 2013 FORD EDGE AND TODAY IT HAS REACH 16,000KM I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM AND THE DEALER DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHEN I GO LIKE 80KM PER HOUR I GET AN EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN. I BOUGHT MY EDGE IN EL SALVADOR FROM A DEALER AND IT'S BEEN LIKE 6 TIMES THEY HAVE CHECKED IT AND NO SOLUTION FOR THE BAD SMELL. I HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS BECAUSE I GET DIZZY AFTER A WHILE. I HAVE SPEND $40,000 FOR THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE A SOLUTION, PLEASEEEE. *JS
HEADLINER - THE HEAD LINER IN THE FORD EDGE LIMITED HAS ABOUT AN INCH GAP BETWEEN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND THE CEILING. THE MATERIAL IS ROUGHLY CUT AND WORKMANSHIP IS EXTREMELY POOR. I TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT I USE AND THEY TOOK PICTURES AND ORDERED A NEW HEADLINER, AFTER 6 MONTHS OF BEING BACKORDERED, THE NEW HEADLINER CAME IN AND WAS REPLACED AND HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. MY FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO MAKE IT RIGHT AND I WOULD HAVE TO SAY IT LOOKS BETTER BUT THE MATERIAL EDGES ARE STILL FRAYED ALL ALONG THE WINDSHIELD AND FOR THE COST OF THE CAR I'D EXPECT MORE. AN EXTRA 2" IN MATERIAL AND A PIECE OF FOAM RUBBER WOULD ALLOW THE MATERIAL TO HAVE A FINISHED LOOK AND FILL THE GAP AT LITTLE EXTRA COST AND WOULD MAKE ANYONE NOTICING THIS MUCH HAPPIER. I WAS GIVEN A LOANER AND NOTICED THE SAME ISSUE ON THE FUSION TITANIUM AND WHEN I SPOKE TO MY SERVICE REP HE STATED THAT IT'S PRETTY MUCH LIKE THIS ON ALL CARS AND THAT THEY ONLY ADDRESS THOSE THAT COMPLAIN - HE SAID NOT MANY PEOPLE NOTICE SINCE THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD IS BLACK. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAS TO LOOK SO CHEAP AND TACKY. EMAILS TO FORD HAVE SO FAR GONE UNANSWERED. *TR
I ve been having to pump my brakes and push real hard to make them work. I ve been told by local mechanic that it is the POWER BRAKES BOOSTER I ve called my local Ford dealer where I bought my car, Oxmoor Ford I was told the brake repair warranty was for 10 years and no longer applied to my car. I only have 45,00 miles. Please help extend the warranty on my car since I am still in the 10th year. They said it ended April 25, 2013 I did have a wreck earlier this year- I rear ended someone- could have been the brakes. Don t know
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS EXTREMELY LOW CAUSING CONCERN THAT IF THE AIR BAG WAS TO DEPLOY, IT WOULD STRIKE HER IN THE FACE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A SEAT ADJUSTMENT SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THEY COULD NOT ALTER THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. 2 WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT MY EDGE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARALLEL PARK AND WHEN MY ENGINE FAILURE LIGHT FLASHED AND MY CAR JUST TURNED OFF. I HAVE A PUSH BUTTON START SO I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND ATTEMPT TO TURN THE CAR ON AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. SO AGAIN IN APRIL AND AGAIN A WEEK AGO ONCE WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A NORMAL STREET (45 MPH) AND WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY (75 MPH) MY CAR JUST TURNED OFF AND STATED ENGINE FAILURE LOW OIL. THE 2ND TIME IT HAPPENED MY CAR HAD 4,000 MILES ON IT AND 5,000 MILES THE 3RD TIME. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP MY ISSUES AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR JUST 24 HOURS. YOUR RIGHT, IT'S AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE SO IT'S NOT JUST GOING TO HAPPEN WHILE YOU TOOK MY CAR AND DROVE IT 100 MILES. NONE THE LESS I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE DEALING WITH THIS IN A VEHICLE I PAID OVER 40K FOR. THE OWNER OF AVIS FORD, [XXX] TOLD ME IT WASN'T THAT BIG OF A DEAL BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN 5 MONTHS. MY CAR TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING IS A HUGE DEAL AND I COULD HAVE DIED ANY OF THOSE TIMES. ENGINE FAILURES IN A VEHICLE THAT IS BRAND NEW IS A HUGE DEAL. PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR IS OFF WHEN MY 100# WIFE SETS IN VEHICLE. *TR
THE VEHICLE HESITATES AT THE TIME OF ACCELERATION AND THEN WILL SURGE. THE SURGING OCCURS AT LO SPEEDS AND IS ,UNFORTUNATELY, INTERMITTENT. A REAL PROBLEM IN TIGHT PARKING LOTS/PARKING STRUCTURES. ALMOST HIT A FAMILY IN A PARKING LOT WITH A SURGE OF SPEED. THE HESITATIONS CAN OCCUR AT LO OR HIGH SPEEDS WHEN YOU ACCELERATE. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. PURCHASED 2013 FORD EDGE WITH 27600 MILES ON IT, WHEN TAKEN IN FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 30600 MILES I NOTED POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL 1/2 INCH BELOW MINIMUM MARK AND MARKED RESERVOIR TANK AT THIS LOW LEVEL TO TRACK IT, WITH OIL CHANGE MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION FILLED IT UP TO1/2 WAY BETWEEN MAX AND MIN LINE IN AUGUST 2012. AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE ANOTHER 5000 MILES NOTED FLUID LEVEL AGAIN AT MINIMUM LINE, SET UP APPT AT LOCAL FORD GARAGE 2-3-14 AND VOICED MY CONCERN ABOUT A LEAK, AND SHOWED SERVICE MANAGER LEVEL AT MIN MARK AND EXPLAINED I PRIOR NOTED LOW LEVEL AS INDICATED BY PREVIOUS LINE I MARKED TO SHOW HOW LOW FLUID ACTUALLY WAS AND THAT I HAD IT FILLED AS MENTIONED ABOVE. ON 2-3-14 APPOINTMENT THEY CHECKED VEHICLE FOR LEAK AND SAID THERE WAS NONE. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO MY LOCAL SERVICE GARAGE (NOT MY LOCAL FORD GARAGE) ON 2-12-14 WITH 35750 MILES IN IT AND THEY FOUND LEAK OF HIGH PRESSURE HOSE AND POSSIBLE LEAK OF BANJO FITTING. WILL TAKE IN TO FORD GARAGE AGAIN SATURDAY 2-15-14 AS HAD ALREADY SET UP APPOINTMENT LAST WEEK BECAUSE HAVE HEARD HIGH PITCH SQUEAL ON OCCASION WHEN TURN STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT AND WANTED POWER STEERING CHECKED AGAIN, WITH BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY ABOUT TO EXPIRE IN 250 MILES, WONDER IF I'LL GET THE RUN AROUND AGAIN OR IF THEY WILL SEE THE LEAK NOW AND SERVICE THIS VEHICLE RIGHT. *TR
PURCHASED 2013 FORD EDGE SPORT ON JULY 14TH. I'VE HAD POSSESSION OF THE CAR FOR THREE WEEKS AS OF THIS COMPLAINT. THE CAR REQUIRED SERVICE EVERY SINGLE WEEK SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS ON AUGUST 8TH. I STARTED THE CAR, AND MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. AS THE LIGHTS APPEARED, THE CAR VIOLENTLY SHUDDERED, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO PRESS DOWN. THE STEERING COLUMN ALSO SHUDDERED, AND THE WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THIS OCCURRED AT A SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT LESS THAN THREE BLOCKS AWAY FROM MY HOME. I CALLED MY HUSBAND, WHO REMAINED ON THE PHONE LINE VIA SPEAKERPHONE AS I SLOWLY COASTED THE CAR HOME. I DROVE THE CAR, COASTING THE WAY BACK HOME WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON, SO AS NOT TO HAVE TO USE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY REPLACED MAJOR SECTIONS OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED US OF THIS REPAIR, SAYING THAT HE'S NEVER SEEN SUCH A MAJOR MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN A BRAND NEW CAR. THEY MADE THE REPAIR, BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY NOT BE A UNIQUE SITUATION. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT BECAUSE THIS MAKE OF CAR IS SO NEW, THAT OTHER PROBLEMS MAY BE OCCURRING THAT HAVEN'T BEEN LOGGED YET... *TR
THE AUTOMATIC TRUNK HAS NO SENSOR FOR ITEMS OR PEOPLE IN THE WAY. WHEN YOU HIT THE CLOSE BUTTON, IT CONTINUES TO CLOSE DESPITE SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IN ITS PATH. IT HAS NO SENSOR TO RETRACT OR STOP CLOSING. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONSIDERING THE SPEED AND WEIGHT OF THE DOOR. I WORRY THAT MY CHILD WILL GET CAUGHT IN THE DOOR AS MY SPOUSE AND I HAVE BEEN HIT BY THE DOOR ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. *TR
INTERNAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN THE LEFT FRONT DOOR LATCH WITH INTEGRAL SWITCH THAT SENDS A FALSE DOOR AJAR SIGNAL TO THE DASHBOARD INSTRUMENTS AND AUDIBLE ALARM SYSTEM. BEGINS AS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE THEN IN A FEW DAYS BECOMES CONSTANT. ANNOYING AT THE LEAST. DISTRACTING AT THE WORST, ESPECIALLY FOR LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVERS. MY REPAIR WAS OUT OF ANY WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE. *TR
TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED AT 36463 MILES AFTER MY WIFE GOT HOME FROM A 6 MILE TRIP. CAR TRANSMISSION FAILED TO GO IN REVERSE AND START VIBRATING VIOLENTLY WHEN TRYING TO PUT IN A FORWARD GEAR. CAR WAS 6 YEARS AND A FEW MONTHS OLD. DEALER AND FORD WOULD NOT BACK THE TRANSMISSION UP BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY,
