NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Ford Edge. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The Hydraulic Control on the braking system went out. The total cost of repair is $1828. The garage I took it to says he has had several come in with the same problem. Ford Motor Company did a recall in 2019 on three of their models from 2006-2010 because of a defect in the same part. I believe the Ford Edge needs to be recalled for the same reason.
2014 Ford Edge was purchased in 5/2015 with 6k miles on it. It was a leftover from 2014. There have been constant brake pulsating issues (details below) from the day it was purchased. Rotors have been cut down or replaced every year since the car was purchased. New brake pads have also been required just about every year. The HCU was replaced in 6/2021, which the Ford Dealership admitted was an issue they were seeing with many models however there was no recall ever done. The most recent is an issue with the Brake Booster, which has been confirmed by the dealership. The car is currently at the Ford Dealership. When applying the brakes, the pedal is spongy, and a pulsating is felt in the pedal. This is felt at all speeds but becomes a safety issue at speeds over 30. Braking becomes very hard, and this causes the rotors to heat up and could potentially cause a fatality. Ford recalled 2010-2013 models back in 2014 but only for certain VIN numbers. However, there are customer complaints dating back to 2007. The braking systems on 2007-2014 Ford Edges need to be looked into or there could loss of life.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at 55 MPH with her husband in the front passenger seat, a deer crashed into the front end of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The contact sustained soreness in the neck and back the next day but did not seek medical assistance. The contact's husband sustained soreness in unknown parts of the body the next day but did not seek medical assistance. There was no police report filed. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
Upon stopping at intersection I began to accelerate to proceed through intersection and no warning light on dash came on as my vehicle wouldn’t go into drive. It barely rolled through and off to shoulder. When I tried to shift into park it wasn’t engaging or something, it just wouldn’t do anything so I lulled the engine and used emergency brake. This could have been a very big tragedy at this or any similar situation.
99800 miles on vehicle. Brake pedal went to the floor on 10/27/2022. Serviced at Dealership Sept. 2022. At dealership, confirmed that Hydraulic Control Unit was bad. Had another vehicle in repair with same problem. Recall issued on this issue but didn't cover my vehicle. No advance warning on screen. Internet list many complaints by Edge owners, especially 2011 and 2013. This should be a recall problem and not cost the $1759 that I will have to pay out of pocket.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that there was a puddle of water on the driver's and passenger's side floorboards. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the failure was related to Customer Satisfaction Program: 15B21 (Pillar Water Leak) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.
I had my oil changed last year upon seeing some suspicious activity during this oil change at Walmart, they were dishonest and lied to my face about my skid plate missing bolts underneath. I told them there's is no way my mobile mechanic put all four back on last night after it fell off while driving. So they lied to me. I filled a complaint. My car started driving weird. Then about two weeks later my car while in park, out of no where wouldn't reverse the steering wheel way locked it hard to turn. And sounded like a broken garbage disposal. It wasn't drivable.i have a2014 Ford edge sel. I ended up having it towed to Ford dealership in Tustin and I remembered that I had just saw online fright before the oil change that there was recalls three online pee my vin in a search . I dropped the keys off at Ford and put the the recall numbers on the envelope going they could look at it. I was told over the phone what the issue was she is be about 1900.00 to replace. I told him there's no way it is that expensive. The party was about 200.00 and the job should only take about 1-2 hours of even that.I told him I was homeless sleeping out of my car with my daughter 5, at the time what are my options. I told him I had mechanical breakdown coverage he called me back saying the claim for coverage was denied when I had talked to them they were waiting for the dealership to call over with necessary repairs information. So I already knew he was being deceptive she and dishonest. I asked him to email me a list of itemized by repairs that needed to be done to the office so i could see what i could afford. Hey emailed me a blank email no list of repairs. I emailed him back telling him there's was no estimate and if he could resend it . No response. ong story longer dealership refused service to my vehicle. my harmonic balancer remains an issue after I replaced it myself and local shop did the timing. Powersteering pump has air in it. Steering wheel locks when driving. Loud sounds.
Rear back up camera works intermittently making it difficult and dangerous when backing up.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that all four windows failed to operate as needed. Additionally, the front driver's side door warning light illuminated indicating that the front driver's side door was open however, the door was securely closed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
This has happened twice on my 2014 Ford Edge. Vehicle goes into limp mode without warning. Did not catch the message, was too busy trying not to get hit. No error codes found. Vehicle restarts and works fine after a short period of sitting. There are multiple reports of this going back 10+ years online. Ford says there is no problem. Computer chip failure? First failure was approximately 10 months ago -
The backup camera has stopped working. Sometimes it appears fuzzy when the car is put into reverse, other times the screen is black and says I need to contact my local dealership. The screen can also stay that way after I place the vehicle back into drive for several minutes before it goes back to the accessory screen. This issue started out as just sometimes a problem and sometimes the camera would work fine. It is at the point now that it never works anymore. I also have had issues with the rear cross traffic sensors "detecting" things when the car is in reverse that aren't there. It can be very dangerous because you think something is behind the car that is not there and can cause the driver to slam on the brakes. This issue does not happen on a regular basis, just sometimes. The vehicle is available for inspection for all problems. None of the problems have been inspected by anyone professionally yet. A Dealership has not confirmed the issues either.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving, the HVAC system would malfunction and change the temperature which caused the windows to fog. The contact stated that on one occasion while driving, the vehicle shut completely off. As a result, the contact would need to pull over to restart the vehicle and then reset the temperature. No warning lights illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to have the vehicle diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 171,296.
Driver power seat tilts backward suddenly when accelerating or backing causing driver to lose control of the vehicle.
I was driving my Ford Edge at approximately 35 mph. As I approached a stoplight, I depressed the brake pedal and it immediately went all the way to the floor with almost no braking action. I was able to get some braking by pumping the brakes continually, avoiding an accident at the light. As a local Pep Boys store had replaced the brake pads about 5 weeks earlier, I chose to slowly and carefully drive the car to their location. The brakes continued to require pumping for any braking action. At Pep Boys, I turned off the vehicle and went inside. They phoned me a few hours later to say that they found that the brakes worked fine. They found no fluid leaks, the master cylinder was full, and they could not duplicate any problem. I did a little research on the internet and found two reports of similar incidents at https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/ford-edge-master-cylinder-recalls-a-deeper-dive. The two excerpts read: "Brake Pedals Travel to the Floor "One Ford Edge owner reported that the vehicle suddenly lost braking power. The brake pedal pushed all the way to the floor, and they nearly were involved in a collision. After stopping the vehicle and turning it back on, the brakes began to work normally. "In another consumer complaint, the same issue happened. An independent repair shop reinstalled the master cylinder and manually bled the brake lines to fix the issue." I made an appointment with All American Ford in Old Bridge, NJ and dropped my car there on August 16, 2022. I was notified on August 20 that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. There was no warning nor prior symptoms of the brake failure. The brakes have continued to work since I turned the vehicle off at Pep Boys. No warning lamps or messages concerning the failure were displayed. I did come across similar failure reports for Edges that claimed the root cause was a combination of master cylinder, brake power booster and electronic brake control module, but my dealer was unaware.
1. Brakes failed, vehicle available upon request. 2. I avoided hitting the car in front of me and i was ok but I put myself and others at great risk driving my car as the brakes continue to fail intermittently. 3. Problem was reproduced. 4. I paid for 2 diagnosis and they are as follows; a) replace brake booster and master cylinder b) ABS module, this mechanic told me he replaced the booster and master in a 2013 Edge to no avail and has now been waiting 2 months on the ABS module, driver has no vehicle. He also has 1 other 2013 Edge with the same problem. 5. There was no warning indicators.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over safely and allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but no failure was found. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall, and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was 72,500.
Will not register in park, light says transmission not in park. Door does not register it is closed.
Rear backup camera has malfunctioned and an error message appears. The screen goes black.
Damaged antifreeze pump this can cause a very severe overheating on the road, transfer box and transmission make a very uncomfortable noise when turning to both sides I don't feel safe when handling rear differential the same problem (I've already replaced it)

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Pressing the brake while parking the car and later driving it on the road. Happened all of a sudden. Loss of break pressure when I put my foot on break peddle to stop. My foot went to the floor! No warning on dash, no idiot light, nothing.
The vehicle began emitting a strong smell intermittently, which was later determined to be gear oil from the transfer case dripping down. After the smell was originally noted the car was driven only at low speeds and short distance to get repaired. The car was not able to be put into reverse. Eventually, the car began to make a grinding sound while steering and stopping. Luckily after the strong smells started the car was never driven over 35mph and was only driven for a short distance. I could only imagine if the car was going at highway speeds. This is putting customer's safety at risk. This is a dangerous situation and needs to be resolved. No warning lights illuminated during this ordeal. I was told by the mechanic that the transfer case "blew up" and would need to be replaced. The car has less than 48,000 miles on it and has always been kept in a garage and up to date on service.
2014 ford edge backorder prevention, identical to the recall for 2021 & 2022 edge recall for distorted or camera not available NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V151000. This recall should be expanded to include other years including 2014 edge as these vehicles are having the same issue. This happens every day and as soon as you put the vehicle into reverse.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle delayed starting. The failure mileage was 58,338.
Brake pedal became very hard to press down, severely limiting the ability to stop the vehicle. The brake booster is available for inspection. It appears that there was a recall for 2009-2013 models but not for the 2014. My car was built and assembled in December of 2013 at the same plant installed the defective boosters. There were no warning lights or indication of a problem. The brake booster has been replaced by a reputable shop.
When the vehicle reaches up to 80,000 miles or so, you may hear a clicking or clunking in the rear when turning or ascending. Nowhere listed in the driver's manual is a power transfer unit mentioned. Obviously, the fluid in this part has to be changed every 30,000 miles. Resulting in a very expensive repair if not done so. I am being quoted 2500.00 for the part and installation by a ford dealer. The power transfer unit blew up, has black oil and metal fragments in it.
The contact's mother owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal was traveling to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was unaware if there was a diagnostic test performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon placing the vehicle in the reverse(R) position, the rear backup camera image would intermittently be displayed upside down. The contact initially took the vehicle to the dealer and was given an estimate for a diagnostic as well as for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed that the cost of the repair would not be covered under warranty. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I have had issues with this car since a few months from me getting it. My rear camera wouldn't work half the time and sometimes turns the images upside down. My heat and cooling system started malfunctioning and the driver's side doesn't blow or temp the same as the passenger side. It has been like that at least 2 of the 4 years I have had this car and have taken it in multiple times and spent thousands of dollars to get it fixed and it is still not fixed and no one can seem to tell me the problem. My car also restarts itself and it won't turn off. A couple of months into getting the car, my car literally shut off while I was on the freeway and I had to pull over. Restart it. I took it in to Ford and they said it was fine. Throughout the last 4 years, my car has restart itself without me autostarting it! It is not a push start car! The engine won't turn off half the time when I take the key out or it turns off then restarts itself and it won't turn off. My car won't lock when it restarts itself. I have also taken my car in multiple times for the electrical system. Reading that there has been multiple complaints about a lot of the issues I am having with my car, not only is it a major safety hazard, but Ford should have done recalls. It is quite ridiculous that they haven't when they are aware of multiple cars having these same issues. I have almost caused several car accidents because of the electrical issues and I don't feel safe driving my vehicle. I shouldn't have to keep spending thousands of dollars and the issues aren't resolved or they keep saying they don't know. There is clearly a lot of faulty issues with the 2014 Ford Edge model and there needs some recalls that need to be issued. My car should not start slowing down automatically on the freeway then shut down. I have had to replace my battery and alternator in less than a year of owning it with only 40,000 miles of it. There have been way too many issues to have had less than 100,000 miles on it.
Heat and defrost malfunction. Driver side blows cold defrost and hot on passenger side. Potentially a safety issue as there is no way to defrost driver side windshield in cold weather
While driving the wrench light will come on, vehicle will lose all power and vehicle becomes difficult to steer and brake. Once the vehicle stops vehicle needs to shut down, wait several minutes and then restarted. Once vehicle is on again the light goes out
door ajar warning dome lights stay on doors don't lock child opened door while moving
The following happens roughly a few times a month but cannot be reproduced intentionally…. I pull into my garage, or a parking space, etc and put the car in PARK, the dashboard shows a P for Park but it also shows a message that says car needs to be in park in order to shut off (something a long these lines…) so I have to jiggle it for a few seconds for it to register that it’s in park. It also starts paddle shifting by itself while I am driving!!! I believe what is happening is related to the existing recalls (20V692000 & 14V393000) on Edge’s, but does not include my VIN. Please HELP!
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the brake pedal was depressed however, the pedal was hard to depress to the floorboard. Additionally, while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal squealing sound detected. While driving up hill with the cruise control engaged, the brake pedal was hard to depress and the cruise control failed to disengage. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,000.
Door ajar light strays on although door is completely closer, not allowing for door to lock and causing a distracting dinging sound with trying to drive, this also causes the other doors not to lock, as well as kills the battery leaving people stranded.
Brake Booster issue. Brake pedal feels spongy/soft when trying to stop. Vehicle makes a whirring/hissing noise when letting off the brake pedal. The car feels like it won't stop in time for a stop sign or stop light while going as slow as 25 mph. There is an extended warranty on this make/model, but Ford refuses to honor it and fix it. I have a vehicle with less than 65,000 miles that is undriveable. No warning lights came on the dashboard at all. The brakes got spongy out of no where. No warning. Ford has confirmed the issue. No accidents in the vehicle because I refuse to drive it now.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and making a turn, the rear end of the vehicle made abnormal sounds. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed that the half-shaft of the vehicle had detached from the transaxle, and the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V393000 (Power Train). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that his vehicle could not be repaired under the recall for NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V393000 (Power Train) because the VIN was not included in the recall.
