The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the dealer informed the contact that the part for the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Outside temp 51*F, car auto start enabled and used. Rear glass exploded after a 7 min warm up. Rear defrost was on. Rear wiper used once to clear morning dew.
2017 FORD EDGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POTENTIAL LEAK OF FRONT BRAKE HOSES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME COMPLETING THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR.
My car started rough idling, about a week after that the check engine light came on. We took it to get checked out, the code was for a misfire on cylinder 2. The technician performed an inspection and informed us that we needed new spark plugs and ignition coil. After installing the new parts, the technician noticed coolant inside the cylinders and the engine, there was also white smoke coming out of the tailpipe when starting the vehicle. Our technician did some more research and came across a service bulletin from Ford (19-2346) regarding 2.0 L Ecoboost engines. Our Ford Edge falls under the service bulletin. The technician informed us that the only fix would be a completely new engine which we had to pay for. We have submitted this to our warranty company and have received partial coverage for the repair and parts. We were without the car for almost a month while waiting for diagnostics, parts, and repair. When we brought it in originally and were under the impression we would get the car back the same day and were planning on a 6 hour road trip to attend my son's hockey tournament. I am so thankful that we had a thorough and diligent technician who noticed the coolant, otherwise I would have taken the car on the road and I'm sure the engine would have given out on me somewhere along the way, leaving me stranded in a remote area of Alaska in freezing temperatures.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact then took the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that the engine had misfired. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that coolant had leaked into the engine cylinder which resulted in engine failure. The contact had the engine replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The rear differential completely blew apart while driving. According to our mechanic, this was a complete malfunction of the vehicle which only has 69,000 miles on it.
My car initially gave me a check engine light. My coolant was found to be low and coolant was replaced which resolved the check engine light immediately. There were no more issues for approximately 1 week, at that time my car started to emit a white smoke from its exhaust, my check engine light turned on again at about the same time. My car was taken to the dealership where there was found to be coolant intrusion on cylinder #2. My entire engine needed to be replaced. It also took approximately 3-4 weeks for Ford to ship the engine to the dealership due to there being a shortage on engines. Ford was contacted by the dealership on my behalf and I was told there was no recall and nothing they could do for me.
Engine is the 2 liter turbo version, when started the engine missed fired and ran rough which caused the check engine light to come on at ~58,000 miles. Took car to Roush Ford (Columbus Ohio) and dealer confirmed the misfire was caused by coolant leaking into engine. Dealer said a long block and related parts would be ordered to fix the problem. Now waiting for call from dealer to repair, no time frame given but they stated repair time would be long. Continue to drive car with engine light coming on and misfires at startup, hope car does not fail on freeway. Repairs may be covered by Ford but no info about rental car at Ford expense. Also have a 2015 Edge with same turbo engine which could fail the same way at any time as it has 80,000 miles.
My 3 ½ year old Ford Edge needs a new engine. It is a known problem with Ford Motor company and I believe there should be, if not a class action lawsuit against the company. My car is past the standard powertrain warranty and I declined extended warranty when I purchased the car. The check engine light came in. I took it to car dealer to figure out what was wrong and Kenny Ross Ford in Adamsburg, PA said I need a new engine. It is a 2017 Ford Edge with 73,000 miles. The local service center said it would be about 8-9k to fix it. There was not an issue with the vehicle reported under warranty. It sputtered a bit over the past three years, but I thought nothing of it. Normally I would just say it’s my bad luck, however this is a known problem with Ford Motor company. When my wife dropped the car off the dealership, the gentlemen at the dealer said he hopes it isn’t an engine replacement because it is common for that car. He didn’t even look at the car before saying that and he knew exactly what was going on. My wife told me about it so I immediately looked online. (See link at the end of this message with similar complaints about this car) One owner said they contacted the Kentucky attorney general’s office as well. Some of them said they had to replace the engine a second time after two years. Hundreds of people are reporting the SAME EXACT PROBLEM and it appears like the new motor they put eventually fails again. I feel that Ford Motor is purposefully hiding a design flaw and don’t want to issue a recall because of the cost. I feel cheated and I want them to replace my motor at no cost or buy my car back from me at full KBB trade in value at excellent condition. I contacted them directly on Friday and informed them that I was contacting the attorney generals office. I told them I want an engine replacement and I should not be responsible for it. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t69477_ds1054339
Bought a used 2017 Ford Edge in June of 2021 75K miles. Approx. three weeks later the check engine light came on. Diagnostic code was misfire in the number 2 cylinder. Spark plugs and coil packs were replaced. Check engine light remained on. Several days later check engine light went off. Brought the car in for a recall fix on brake hose and spoke with Ford technician that I was getting ready to travel to TN and wanted to make sure that it was safe to do so. Assured that it would be fine. During the course of our trip to TN the check engine light came on and off several times. On our way home noticed the heat wasn't working very well. Before we left the hotel in the morning checked coolant level and it was low. Filled it up and continued on our way home. Since then every three days coolant level is low. Starting up in the morning puff of white smoke comes out the pipe. Out of Fords warranty and a loan on a car I have had three months with a major problem. Did some research only to find this is a common problem that could potentially cause a fire. Dealer says I need a new engine...and I have to pay for it.
2.0 Ecoboost engine failure. Driving car, started smoking, check engine light came on, lost power, pulled to the side of the road to avoid being hit by traffic, vehicle stalled and stopped. Engine had to be replaced.
vehicle is misfiring and coolant leaking into cylinders causing engine coolant over temperature and vehicle stalls out my vehicle is available for inspection this is unsafe because of stalls and overheats a ford dealership has confirmed the misfiring - this is second time at ford dealership check engine light started going on and off when problem first started
Glass roof cracks... They appear to be stress fractures. Both on the front moon roof panel and the rear panoramic glass panel. Pictures attached. The care is garaged. The cracks on the rear panoramic occurred 1st. The cracks on the front moonroof panel occurred several months afterwards.
RECALL IS STILL INCOMPLETE BY THE MIDWAY DEALER IN MIAMI SINCE MAY 2021
On Monday August 30th 2021 while driving the warning light stating that the engine was overheating came on. The engine was stopped and coolant level was checked and shown to be low within the engine. Coolant was refilled and the engine seemed to stabilize. On September 3rd 2021 the same overheating censor came on again and the car was taken to a licensed Ford dealer for emergency maintenance. On September 7th 2021 the repair shop called and reported that the issue was a leak in the cylinder for the coolant in the engine and that the entire engine would have to be replaced. The cost of the repair was quoted as $7636 plus tax. The car is only just over 62,000 miles with the warranty period having ended at 60,000 miles.
Car was mysteriously losing coolant which would lead to overheating. We would have to fill the coolant tank two times a month. When brought to the mechanic to find the leak, none could be found. Check engine light would go on and off periodically. One day, the car randomly wouldn't start. Being told by the mechanic that there is a catastrophic engine failure and the whole motor and turbo would need to be replaced. He said he had the same year and model come in not 2 months prior with the exact same issues. Coolant was leaking within the engine, hence why it couldn't be found during normal tests. a 2017 motor with less than 100,000 miles should not be experiencing engine failure.
Engine overheating due to a KNOWN issue with coolant leaking into the cylinders of the 2017 Ford Edge. Ford knows about this issue as I have seen it reported on several different sites. This should be recalled as my vehicle began to overheat while I was driving. This puts my wife and my family at danger. I had my car serviced at the Ford dealership since it was purchased and this issue was never brought up. So this is not a servicing issue it is an issue with the engine itself.
The check engine light came on summer 2021. Message P0302. It was diagnosed by the Ford dealer as coolant leaking into the engine which could lead to engine failure when driving. Entire engine needed to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was engaged, and the brake pedal went to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 35,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while at a drive through, the brake pedal was depressed and went all the way to the floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact then pumped the brake pedal until the brake pedal retracted. The contact was able to continue to drive for half a mile however, the failure reoccurred. The contact veered to the side of the road and noticed that the brake line was gushing onto the front driver's side tire. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed and went all the way to the floorboard and remained on the floorboard. The contact pumped the brake pedal until the brake pedal retracted. The contact was able to drive to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic test drove the vehicle and noticed that the brake line was gushing onto the passenger's side rear tire. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the rear brake line hose had failed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the failure was not covered under the previous recall. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
In the Ford Edge Titanium model (I own a 2017), the 2.0L engine developed a crack in the long block between cylinders. This causes coolant to leak in the cylinders and the spark plug to seize. The engine will miss-fire and could stop running. This has happened to a multitude of Ford Edges and Escapes with the 2.0L engine. Ford is very aware of this issue.
2017 Ford Edge - we were driving along at approximately 50 mph when all of a sudden the vehicle lost power and it slowed down very fast. The car in back of us almost hit us! We limped along until we could shut the car off. It cleared up temporarily but happened twice on way to local mechanic. His engine analyzer did not show anything and the car ran fine for a couple of weeks so I thought maybe there had been some bad gasoline. Then it happened again several times. It was this second series of incidents when we almost had a crash. In driving 10 miles to return to the local mechanic it decelerated 5 times and stalled each time. Now both the check engine light and the wrench warning lights come on. The mechanic's engine analyzer now shows the throttle body is defective. Since he does not have the part in stock we are still waiting to have it repaired. A Ford service dealer has not yet looked at the car. I may now take it to a Ford dealer but getting there is risky.
Driving Edge with 62,000 miles on it and had a Check Engine Light later determined to be P303 (cylinder 3 misfire). I replaced coolant after finding the reservoir low. I noticed white smoke and misfiring engine at first start. The engine stuttered on the freeway and was unsafe. Ford Dealership determined a coolant leak caused this issue and will replace the engine minus my deductible on my extended service plan. As I understand it, this ecoboost engine is prone to this defect. I am only getting a rental car for 5 days on a job that will be much longer.
While driving on August 8, 2021, I heard a pop on my 2071 Ford Edge panoramic tempered glass roof. I subsequently found a crack/break when I was cleaning the glass roof. I notified the Ford Dealership (FD) (Lithia Ford of Fresno California) on my next oil change on December 15, 2021. Based on my ocular inspection the crack/break appears to emanate from a bubble in the tempered glass roof as opposed to FD’s opinion that object impact caused the cracking. In my online research, cracking, popping and even exploding without impact have happened to tempered automotive glasses have occurred across different vehicle models across different vehicle manufacturers. The presence of bubbles in the manufacturing process have caused weak points across the surfaces of many tempered automotive glass resulting in cracking, breaking, popping and exploding. When this occurs, vehicle occupants as well as other moving motorists could be injured. The tempered automotive glass that exhibit bubbles should not be installed by vehicle manufacturers like Ford. Intensified quality control of tempered automotive glass should be done by vehicle manufacturers before these are installed. Tempered panoramic glass roofing ( sunroof & moonroof) found with bubbles that are installed in all vehicles should be inspected and replaced if necessary to prevent injury to vehicle occupants and moving motorists.
On way to beach on 6/6/2021 the check engine light came on and warning that car may be overheating came on, pulled to side of road until car cooled down. It ran hot but was full of coolant and not leaking. Took to to Moyer Ford in Foley, Al on 6/7/2021 with 65243 miles on car and was told would need new engine for this 2017 Ford Edge with less than 70,000 miles in it. Spent $5,500 for a new engine on a vehicle with less than $70,000 and 4 years old.
The engine in the 2017 Ford Explorer has a history of seizing, catching fire and failure without notice. This could cause serious injury or death. This is a very well known problem at Ford Motor Company and they are doing nothing to fix it. In fact they are hiding from it. The internet is loaded with information on this. The coolant leaks into the engine and destroys it. This has happened so much there are no more engines available in the country. It's not a matter if, it's a matter of when it will happen. 40,000 miles? 60,000 miles? My car has 77,000 miles. Ford is asking customers replace the engine at $7700 to the customer. There should be a recall and replacement process from Ford Motor Company fully funded by Ford. They engineered a bad engine. Sold it to the public. And they are ignoring the safety of the public for money. I have dealt with Morrie's Minnetonka Ford in Minnetonka Minnesota and they say Ford will not recall the engine despite the danger to the public. As usual it's all about the money. Happy to assist you with any details. Engine rebuilt at 40k miles in 12/2018. Engine started burning the engine coolant at 90k miles 08/2021. The car while driving goes into a low power mode which stops the car from accelerating. Car is currently at the dealership awaiting parts for another engine rebuild replacing the same parts.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at 50-60 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact veered to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, and the warning lights were no longer illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not replicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred twice while driving and the vehicle was taken to the dealer at each occasion. The dealer informed the contact that they could not replicate the failure; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,500. THE CONSUMER STATED 4 OF THE INCIDENTS OCCURED WHILE MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY. THE CONSUMER STATED ALL TROUBLESHOOTING EFFORTS FAILED. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT, BUT CONSISTENT.
2017 ford Edge Rear panoramic glass randomly cracked while parked. Took to dealer they said it was stress cracks that it would cost approximately $1800.00 to replace. Car has 37,000 miles and is out of warranty. Poor quality and craftsmanship should not be on the consumer's nor should car insurance have to pay for these repairs.
After received a recall notice for 20S42 in May 2021 I have contacted local dealerships weekly and they have continued to tell me that they can't get the parts from Ford. I called Ford today and they tell me that the parts that they originally sent out still have a defect so they are going to be issuing new parts and a NEW recall notice at the end of July. It is ridiculous for it to take this long to resolve something that has been deemed a safety issue. Also, the dealerships do not seem to have this information because all they know is "they can't get the parts". The backorder/issue with parts should have been communicated to the dealerships and vehicle owners.
I have a ecoboost engine on my Ford Edge that has known issues from Ford. Currently after driving past the 60k mile warranty cylinder 4 on my engine started leaking coolant into the engine block. I took my car to Ford to get it checked because I started to get notifications that the engine was overheating while in the car with my toddler. The mechanic informed me later that there was a TSB 19-2346 on my car and many others like it. I was told Ford would no help in anyway with replacing the engine. There was supposed to be a sensor inside my car to let me know about the coolant levelling dropping the way they have been but there wasn’t even that. The car only let me know of the issue at the end when it started overheating to dangerous levels
mechanic told me that radiator fluid was leaking into the number 2 cylinder which could cause the car to lose power. motor is a 2.0 eco boost. car has 62000 miles. i believe this is a very dangerous situation going down a busy highway or actually anytime. ford has known about this problem for a long time but has failed to do anything. mechanic told me many 2.0 motors has this problem of anti-freeze leaking into motor and ford issued a message about the problem to ford dealerships and how to fix it. their should be a recall to fix the problem before something bad happens. thank you
Coolant leaking into engine. Check engine light came on 07/11/2021. Took vehicle to local auto store for diagnostic test. Was told a mid ire in cylinder 2. Took vehicle to neighborhood auto shop on 07/12. Mechanic said it was the same issue to take it to the dealership due to the warranty. Brought my vehicle to dealership on 07/13. On the way to the dealership my vehicle died out on the expressway. After 6 hours of waiting, was told did not know what was causing the problem but needed to keep it. Was not provided another vehicle. I had to come out of pocket for a rental. Called on 7/20 and was told it might be my transmission and low engine coolant. Called again on 07/23, was told it was the battery. I called on 7/26 was told I need a new engine. There are complaints about this issue. Ford motor company knows about the issue. This issue with the vehicle could has caused serious injury or death to me or my family. The lack of communication is horrible.
The engine block is cracked and fluid is leaking into the cylinders.
Vehicle began exhibiting a loud rattle from the engine at idle. Took vehicle to dealer and they identified it as a cracked flex plate (flexplate). While vehicle was still drivable at the time, the flex plate had the potential to fully fail at any time, which would cause power loss to the wheels. Vehicle has 62000 miles, just outside of power train warranty, and expected to cost $5000 to $10000 to repair.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact's husband owned a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact had initially received a recall notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000(SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that while her son was driving and had approached a stop sign, the brake pedal failed upon depression and collided with another vehicle. The contact was uncertain if any warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. The airbags deployed upon impact. The contact nor any other individuals involved in the accident were injured. A police report was filed. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it had been deemed a total loss. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been destroyed. The failure mileage was unknown. * (RECALL RELATED INCIDENT) TS
automatic door latches and inside lights and flashers switch on and off randomly. It does not matter if the car is being driven or sitting overnight in the driveway. This may cause the battery to drain and require jumping off. It also allows for theft if the doors are unlocked. The problem was checked out by my local ford dealership. A representative went for a test drive and said he only heard the door latches click one time so it was not bad enough to worry about. I was told by the ford service rep. that it could be a low voltage problem so I replaced the car battery and the electronic key batteries but the problem continues.
In 2019 I had the same issue as prior report. Coolant made it's way into the engine and my engine had to be replaced. Actually occurred within warranty so Ford replaced it. On then new engine there is no warranty once I reach the original warranty in mileage / time. Now in 2021 I am replacing a transmission that is not covered under warranty. There is a recall for transmission on 2017 and 2018, mine is a 2017, and my vin does not indicate it is subject to that recall (Recall no. 19V285000). Cost is $4,600.
The engine of my 2017 Ford Edge began to misfire intermittently in 2019. When it was finally able to be diagnosed in 2020, it was determined fuel had escaped around a spark plug. The spark plugs were replaced. Approximately one year later, the issue began again. Upon further inspection, it was found that a head gasket had gone bad. While there is not definite evidence of a coolant leak, it is suspected a leak may have initiated the issue. Research has also indicated the engine block is most likely cracked. While driving, the engine would often lull and stop accelerating. This happened several times as I attempted to drive down the interstate, being forced to exit the highway due to not being able to move with the speed of traffic. After the first repair of the spark plugs, the car seemed to drive fine, however, they shouldn't have gone bad within a year of install indicating a much larger issue. The car is unable to be driven. Even with replacing the head gasket, I do not feel the car would be safe with a cracked engine block. Nor should the motor have gone bad this soon.
Transmission, coolant infusion to engine Emissions, long block torqu converter failed even though i had multiple appointments to have this and the other recalls done they always canceled the appointments due to lack of parts or they were backed up in the service department. I had the majority of all (the works) oil changes done at the dealership unless they were weeks out, I complained of engine running hot and knocking sounds back in 2021, needed to be jumped every few months 2022 I was always told this was normal for a edge ecoboost with the cold weather package, they did check the battery which was fine, when the engine light came on I took it right in only to be told to make a appointment, soon after I started to lose power going up sm hills, I was told I needed new tires after this oil change and I even ended up with a nail in my time from their repair shop, 3 weeks later no engine light denied my appointment, tried to show codes from local repair shop i waa told its normal make a appointment, i questioned if its safe to drive i was told yes absolutely engine light back on the next day took it back in again told to make a appointment 2.5 weeks later no engine light on but I showed them the codes I was pulling for miss firing that I pulled multiple times at different intervals when I felt something was wrong but they didn't have a appointment to check themselves i was then told my computer reader was not accepted due to inaccurate readings made yet another attempt for a appointment, the next day I get in my car and start driving and I get a warning the car was reducing power due to over heating.it took 2 different tow trucks to get it to the dealership i have been complaining about these issues for well over 2 years only to be told I don't know what I am talking about or that it was perfectly normal if its so "normal" then why do they have a customer satisfaction program 22n12 that list my car yet denied me any assistance besides paying for the recall issues
I was backing up into a driveway (very slight incline) when my power steering went out. Lights came on stating, "Steering assist fault, service required" and "service advanced trac." I could barely turn my wheel. There was no earlier warning of this issue and I had just driven 3 hours on the highway so was fortunate that it didn't fail while on the road. I tried restarting my car a few times and then I called a Ford dealer. The car was towed in for a diagnostic. This revealed that the EPAS rack failed and needed to be replaced with an estimate of over $3000. The purpose of EPAS is to enhance the steering ability for the driver, but the car is not steerable without its proper functioning which is a huge safety hazard to the driver and anyone else near them on the road.
THE 3RD CYLINDER MANUFACTURE MALFUNCTION CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE ENGINE AND REQUIRING A REPLACEMENT OF THE LONG BLOCK ENGINE. THERE IS CURRENTLY A TSB BUT NO RECALL. PLEASE SEE FORD TSB 19-2208. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CODE IS TO REPLACE THE 3 COIL CYLINDER WHICH HAS BEEN DONE THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN AT FORD AND NO DIAGNOSTIC DONE AS SOON AS I TOLD THEM I WAS ADDING COOLANT DAILY THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND NEEDED REPAIRS.
Engine defect - Coolant leaking into cyclinder- requires whole new engine
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he noticed that there was water in the rear tail light assembly. The dealer recommended that the rear tail light assembly be replaced prior to the brake recall repair. The contact stated that he should not be responsible to pay for the defect of the rear tail light assembly filling up with water. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,910.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received a notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part for the repair was unavailable. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part was not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Coolant leak into cylinder. Manufacture defect. Known issue by Ford but will not cover any replacement as vehicle is out of warranty by 7000 miles. A 2017 with 67000 driven by a grandma 5 mph under the speed limit should not need a new engine. Engine light comes on. Misfires. Puffs of white smoke. Didn’t take to dealer as closest if 1/2 hour away. Took to local repair shop. They ran codes and said it is a known problem from Ford. NHTSA ID Number: 10162071 Manufacturer Communication Number: TSB 19-2208 Summary Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may include P0300, P0301-P0304, P0316, P0217, P1285 and/or P1299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the long block engine assembly. This needs to be a recall or at least Ford needs to cover the replacement costs for those with issues.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The contact also took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was also informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer and the engine was replaced. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000. The consumer stated she was told not to drive the vehicle anymore due to the fact the engine might freeze up and spent $5400 to have the engine repaired.
In February we had a knocking noise when driving 2017 Ford edge. We took into dealership and had a cracked flywheel. Currently, our 2017 edge is back in the shop with another crackes flywheel. This vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership 1 week after we purchased to replace the whole engine for 3 months. Then we are dealing with 2 cracked flywheels and have had the brake lines fail twice, which is also a recall. This vehicle is a lemon!
Service light came on then overheat light - took to dealer to check. Told by service guy that the tech has performed a long pressure test on the coolant system to find a leak. There are no external leaks so we checked and found coolant intrusion inside the cylinder head. The fix for that is a complete engine assembly.
