THE ROTORS ON MY ESCAPE HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 45,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE BRAKES HAD WORN DOWN (NO SQUEALER WARNING). UPON INSPECTION IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE ROTORS HAD BEEN WORN DOWN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH NEW BRAKE PADS. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS SURPRISED AT THE ROTORS BEING IN SUCH BAD SHAPE ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS NOT DUE TO GRINDING (THE BRAKE PADS WEREN'T COMPLETELY WORN OUT). HE WAS SHOCKED AT SUCH INFERIOR PARTS BEING ON THE CAR. I HAVE KEPT THE ORIGINAL ROTORS THAT CAME ON THE CAR FROM FORD SHOULD ANYONE WANT PICTURES OR WANT TO INSPECT THEM. *AK
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle loss motive power. The contact pulls the vehicle over to the side of the road. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not able to restart. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact was concerned that the failure was related to the alternator. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
THE VEHICLE IS STALLING MORE SINCE THE DEALERSHIP REPROGRAMMED THE POWER CONTROL MODULE AS STATED IN THE ENGINE STALLING RECALL 04V165000. DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE VEHICLE 3 MORE TIMES, BUT IT WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*AK
I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE AND IT WAS RECENTLY RECALLED FOR FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THE DAY BEFORE I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS ROUGH IDLING. THE FORD DEALER REPLACED IGNITION COIL AND SAID THAT WAS PROBLEM FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ROUGH IDLE AND SAID THEY DID THE RECALL. LESS THAN A MONTH LATER MY CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER STOPPING FOR A FEW BRIEF MINUTES. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED BY FORD'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER THE CAR STARTED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID IT MAY HAVE JUST BEEN A FLUKE. I DROVE THE CAR HOME WITHOUT IT BEING TOWED. 2 WEEKS WENT BY WITH NOTHING HAPPENING AND THEN ONE DAY AFTER ANOTHER BRIEF STOP THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THIS TIME THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AND IT WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER AND WAS KEPT BY THEM FOR 2 DAYS TO NO AVAIL. THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME AND 2 DAYS LATER THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AGAIN. MY HUSBAND PUSHED ON THE CAR BACKWARDS A FEW FEET WHILE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL AND TO MUCH SURPRISE, THE CAR STARTED AGAIN WHEN PUT TRIED AGAIN. THIS WAS VERY GOOD NEWS AS IT WAS LATE EVENING ON A SAT AND THE FORD DEALER WAS NOT OPEN. TODAY, 3 DAYS LATER, MY HUSBAND STOPPED FOR GAS AND AFTER PAYING FOR THE GAS THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART. THE TRUCK IS ONCE AGAIN BEING TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER THIS TIME FOR GOOD UNTIL IT IS FIXED PROPERLY. LUCKILY THESE ALL HAPPENED CLOSE TO HOME, WHAT IF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A TRIP OR SOMETHING ? IF THEY CANNOT FIX THIS PROBLEM I WOULD LIKE TO BE GIVEN A NEW/COMPARABLE VEHICLE. I AM ALMOST SCARED TO DRIVE IT FROM FEAR OF IT FAILING ME AGAIN.*AK
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASSIONS (04/23/04 & 04/30/04) MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE JUST STOPPED RUNNING WITH NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER. AFTER THE 1ST INCIDENT A RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED (DRIVETRAIN MODULE) AND THOUGHT TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. EXACTLY A WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED RUNNING AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T BE CERTAIN, BUT THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. THE REPAIR WAS MADE, COSTING NEARLY $500, AND SO FAR NO PROBLEMS. HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON A BUSY INTERSTATE, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DISASTROUS. *AK
I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE THAT THE FUEL NIDDLE DROPS VERRY FAST. THEY HAVE DONE THE REPAIR ON IT AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT AGAIN I HAVE CONTACTED AN ATTORNEY FOR THE MATTER. *AK
STALLS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP REPEATEDLY. PROBLEM CAN NOT BE FOUND, TAKE CAR HOME STILL STALLS! *AK
THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL ON THE 2002-2004 FORD ESCAPE SUV'S DUE TO ACCELERATOR CABLE PROBLEMS. WE HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE 4X4 SUV AND THE ACCELERATOR CABLE IS ALSO STICKING. WHY NOT RECALL ALL THE MODEL YEARS? WHY WAIT TILL THERE IS AN ACCIDENT OR MAJOR FAILURE?*AK
SMELL OF GAOLINE COMING THROUGH HEATER VENTS. ENGINE STALLS OR HESTTATES AT AROUND 35-40 MPH. DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX EITHER PROBLEM.
2001 FORD ESCAPE PROPERLY MAINTAINED, SECOND TIME REPORTING DRIVE TRAIN NOISE. FIRST TIME DEALER REPLACED STABALIZER BAR, NOW @ 41000 MILES BOTH TIE ROD ENDS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I BOUGHT A RELIABLE CAR TO SAVE MONEY, AND NOW PUTTING MONEY INTO A 3 YEAR OLD CAR. PART ON BACK ORDER, WONDER IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SEALS CRACKED , CAUSING WATER TO LEAK INTO THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
ON MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE THE PAINT IS COMING OFF THE ROOF RACKS IN SEVERAL PLACES. ALSO THE PAINT IS BUBBLING ON THE HOOD IN SEVERAL PLACES. THE WIPER ARMS DON'T SEEM TO BE HOLDING THE PAINT AND IT'S STARTING TO LOOK FADED AND RUSTY. THE CAR IS KEPT IN A GARAGE EXCEPT AT WORK. *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE ODOMETER LIGHT BLINKED ON AND OFF. DRIVER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND SHUT OFF ENGINE. THEN, ATTEMPTED TO START VEHICLE, BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. TRANSMISSION WOULD WORK ONLY WHEN COLD, ONCE THE SYSTEM WARMED UP ALL GEAR SELECTIONS WERE LOST. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, WHO EXPLAINED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REBUILT. CONSUMER STATED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS NOT BURNING, CLUTCHES WERE OKAY, BUT A COUPLE OF THE BUSHINGS WERE SEIZED TO THE DRUMS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH TWO DAYS OF SLOW CITY DRIVING. *AK
ON APRIL 1, 2004, A 1995 FORD TAURUS TURNED IN FRONT OF MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE. I WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED AROUND 40MPH AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE HIT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT OF HER VEHICLE. MY AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND MY CAR WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. I SUFFERED A STRAINED NECK, STRAINED BACK MUSCLES, MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS FROM THE SEATBELT ,AS WELL AS A PULMONARY CONTUSION. I FEEL THAT MY INJURIES WERE ENHANCED DUE TO AIRBAG FAILURE.*AK
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCEING ALOT OF STALLING WITH MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN ON A DOWNGRADE OR SLOWING TO STOP. THE IDLE DROPS VERY LOW AND THE CAR STALLS. IT OFTEN STALLS WHEN SITTING AT AN IDLE ALSO. I HAVE HAD IT STALL MANY TIMES WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. WHEN THE ESCAPE STALLS, YOU LOSE STEERING. I AM AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I FIRST STARTING STALLING IN MARCH OF 2003 AND HAVE HAD HUNDREDS OF STALLS. YESTERDAY(3/31/04) THE ESCAPE STALLED 5 TIMES IN A 2 MILE STRETCH. I AM VERY WORRIED THAT ONE DAY IT WILL STALL TURNING AT A BUSY INTERSECTION AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO RESTART FAST ENOUGH TO STOP FROM GETTING HIT OR HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING ELSE. BECAUSE I AM OUT OF WARRENTY FORD WILL DO NOTHING. I KNOW THERE IS A TSB ON THIS PROBLEM, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT DONE, AND I FEEL THIS IS SOMETHING FORD SHOULD DO WHETHER YOU'RE UNDER WARRENTY OR NOT.*AK
PREMATURE BRAKE ROTOR WEAR. ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED TWICE; ONCE AT 30K MILES AND AGAIN AT 60K MILES. BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 60K MILES. NUMEROUS FRONT-END PROBLEMS AFTER LIGHT CONVENTIONAL "ON-ROAD" DRIVING (I.E. LOOSE END LINKS, BALL JOINTS, MISALIGNMENT), WHICH IN TURN RESULTED IN PREMATURE DESTRUCTION OF TWO SETS OF TIRES. BURNING OIL SMELL IN CABIN SUPPOSEDLY UNIDENTIFIABLE AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS BY DEALER. NONE OF THE ABOVE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. OVER $2500 IN REPAIRS AND VEHICLE IS ONLY AT 63K MILES! *JB

2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT, MILEAGE OF < 42,000, IN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CONDITION, PURCHASED USED, IN NOV 2003 WITH JUST OVER 36,000 MILES, NOW REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF WORN TIE ROD ENDS. THIS IS PREMATURE FOR THE USAGE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS. *AK
I EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE AS I WAS ABOUT TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE AT THE LOCAL LIBRARY.*AK
NO CRASH - NO INJURIES YET! THINK THERE MAY BE A POSSIBLE PRODUCT LIABITY SAFETY ISSUE: FORD ESCAPE, 2001, W/ POWER DOOR LOCKS, SERIAL# [XXX]. *AK REAR DOORS ON BOTH SIDES DO NOT LATCH, PROPERLY. THEY DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. ONCE OPENED THEY WILL NOT CLOSE AND LATCH SECURELY. ONE DOOR FAILED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF THE OTHERS FAILURE. FOUND OUT THE PARTS ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND HAVE BEEN REVISED 3 TIMES BY MANUFACTUROR. IN 50 YEARS I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN AUTOMOBILE WITH THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. I'VE SOLD HUNDREDS OF CARS IN MY LIFE TIME AND HAVE OWNED PLENTY. MY QUESTION IS IS THERE ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SIMIILAR TYPE ON THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE? ANY INJUIES? VEHICLE STALLS WHILE GOING DOWNHILL AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES AN HOUR WITH FOOT OFF GAS. THIS IS THE THIRD OR FORTH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. BECAUSE OF THE STALLING CONDITION, USE OF BRAKE AND STEERING IS DIFFICULT.*AK
WHEN INSERTED KEY INTO IGNITION IT WOULD NOT TURN NOR START THE VEHICLE. THEREFORE, HAVING TO HAVE SUV TOWED FOR SERVICE AND HAVING THE PART REPLACED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER MENTIONED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS HAPPEN ALOT IN FORD CARS/TRUCKS. *AK
AT 50,000, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SHUDDER. I FOUND OUT WHY ON ESCAPE-CENTRAL, AND THEN PROCEEDED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE MACHINE TO PERFORM THE FLUSHING, AND TO TRY SOMEWHERE ELSE. WASTED DAY ONE. I WENT TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP, AND WASTED A MORNING THERE BEFORE THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE EITHER, AND THAT I SHOULD TRY A LINCOLN MERCURY DEALER. I FINALLY GOT FED UP AND CONTACTED THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER, WHO HAD THE MACHINE AND WAS MORE THAN WILL TO TAKE MY $150.00. HE DID NOT PERFORM THE OASIS CHANGE THOUGH. ALL WAS GOOD, AND THE ESCAPE RAN GREAT. AT 58000, THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDER REAPPEARS. I TAKE IT BACK TO DEALER ONE, WHO INFORMS ME THEY CANT SEE ANY PROBLEM. ONE WEEK LATER, I BRING IT BACK IN SAYING THAT IT IS MOST CERTAINLY THERE. I GET TO TAKE OUT THE TRANSMISSION EXPERT FOR A TEST DRIVE, AND RECREATE THE PROBLEM. HE SAYS YUP, THATS THE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM. ALL THE CARS WE MAKE WITH THAT TRANSMISSION HAVE THAT PROBLEM AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER. AS HE EXPLAINED IT BASICALLY WATER IS ATTRACTED TO THE PLATE IN THE TORQUE CONVERTER, AND ANY MOISTURE IN THE SYSTEM CAUSES IT TO SHUDDER. I ASK THE LOGICAL QUESTION OF WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT IT. HIS RESPONSE IS THAT HE WOULD RATHER CUT OFF HIS TWO ARMS THAN REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER. 12 HOURS OF LABOR ON TOP OF THE ~$300 PART. HE SUGGESTS I GET IT FLUSHED AGAIN AND SEE IF THAT HELPS. BACK TO MAZDA&. I HAVE THE FLUSH DONE AT MAZDA LAST WEEK AND THEY ASK ABOUT THE TSB OASIS UPDATE. I SAID THAT IT WASNT DONE, AND THEY PERFORM THE UPDATE AND FLUSH THE ESCAPE. MY ESCAPE NOW RUNS WORSE THAN IT DID BEFORE, AND THE SHUDDER HAPPENS WHEN BOTH LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE TORQUE CONVERTER. IT ACTUALLY SHAKES THE CHANGE IN MY CUPHOLDERS.*AK
BRAKE PEDAL HISSES AND SQUEAKS WHEN RELEASED. TO STOP HIGH-PITCHED HISSING SOUND, THE PEDAL MUST BE LIGHTLY TAPPED. RESULTS IN EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO BRAKE SYSTEM. BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND POWER BRAKE BOOSTER NEED REPLACING. POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE!
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT A SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MECHANIC REPLACED THE SENSOR, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
THE FRONT ROTORS ON MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE XLS 4-WD HAVE WORN DOWN VERY QUICKLY. THE ROTORS MUST BE MADE OUT OF SOME SORT OF SOFT METAL BECAUSE I HAVEN'T REPLACED MY BRAKE PADS YET AND MY ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ALREADY. *AK

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER TRIED TO RESTART VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE REPLACEMENT PART TO PERFORM SEAT BELT BUCKLE RECALL 03V507000 REPAIRS HAD NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR OVER A MONTH. *AK
I OWN A 2001 ESCAPE XLS WITH V6, AUTO AND 4 WD. HAVE 29K MILES ON IT. MY TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY RUINED BECAUSE OF AN INTERNAL FAILURE WHICH BURNT OFF ALL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS TRANSMISSION (CD-4E) SEEMS TO HAVE A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS IN VARIOUS FORD AND MAZDA VEHICLES. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY. I WOULD LIKE SOMEBODY TO LOOK INTO THIS TRANSMISSION AND THE VARIOUS PROBLEMS IT HAS CREATED. *JB
O/D LIGHT FLASHES, TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE IN D, SOMETIMES IN 2 OR 1. REVERSE WORKS FINE. IF CAR MOVES STARTING IN 2ND GEAR, THEN IT CAN BE SHIFTED TO D AND ALL GEARS WORK NORMALLY, EVEN IF RESTARTING FROM A FULL STOP. *JB
2001 FORD ESCAPE STALLED AT ABOUT 30 MPH. CAR RESTARTED AND CONTINUED. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE CAR STALLED. *CB
THE GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK, WHICH EFFECTED THE SPEED CONTROL CABLE . THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JB THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. *NM
MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE HAS A CD4E TRANSMISSION WHICH HAS A LONG HISTORY OF PROBLEMS. IT BURNED UP AT 60,000 MILES WHICH IS CONSISTENT WITH MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE SEEN WITH REGARDS TO THAT MODEL. ONE WEB SITE REGISTERS 25,000 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE CONSISTENT ACROSS THE BOARD, THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE NOT KEPT COOL ENOUGH AND THE MAIN SHAFT RUPTURES. THE TIME TABLE IS ALSO CONSISTENT. FORD TALKS TO ME AS IF THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE. HOW CAN THEY REPLACE 25,000 OF THE SAME THING AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT UNTIL I MENTION IT TO THEM? THE COST TO ME IS $3,031.00. THIS IS FAR LESS THAN THE IMPLIED LIFE OF THE PART, IN MY OPINION, AND THOSE OF EVERY TRANSMISSION PERSON I HAVE TALKED TO. *JB
2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT 4WD STALLED WHILE DRIVING. HAS DONE THIS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. ALSO, OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT START. USUALLY WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE FOR SEVERAL HOURS IN RAIN. REQUIRES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START.*AK
ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. A FOUL SMELL SEEPED THROUGH THE VENTILATION. AS A RESULT CONSUMER VOMITED, AND FELT LIGHT HEADED. *AK
THE TIRE JACK WAS ONLY USED 1 TIME TO CHANGE A FLAT ON THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE,WHEN I USED IT TO JACK UP THE VEHICLE THE SCISSOR JACK CRACKED AT THE THREADS WHERE THE TUBE HOLDS THE SCREW MECHANISM. THE MATERIAL USED TO MAKE THE TIRE JACKS IS DEFECTIVE AND CAN CAUSE THE JACK TO FAIL AND FALL ON A PERSON CHANGING THE TIRE. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER. IT COSTS $55.00. THIS IS UNFAIR SINCE THE JACK WAS ONLY USED 1 TIME AND IT WAS USED IN ACCORDANCE TO THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE TIRE WELL COVER. THE MATERIAL IS CHEAP "POT METAL" AND WILL NOT WITHSTAND THE WEIGHT OF THE ESCAPE DURING JACKING UP THE VEHICLE,BEFORE THE TUBE THAT HOLDS THE SCREW MECHANISM CRACKS,THUS CAUSING THE SCREW TO STRIP OUT AND THE JACK TO COLLAPSE UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. *JB

WHILE DRIVING 2001 FORD ESCAPE AT AVERAGE 50-60 MPH SPEED OK. UPON DECELERATION, CAR DIES. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP NEXT DAY (DIED 3 MORE TIMES). DEALER IS SAYING 2 CYLINDER HEADS NEED TO BE REPLACED; 2 CAMSHAFTS AND BASICALLY NEED NEW ENGINE INSTALLED AT MY EXPENSE. DEALER HAS REQUESTED MAINTENANCE RECEIPTS (I HAVE SUPPLIED ALL). NOW WAITING TO SEE IF FORD WILL ASSIST IN REPAIRS. HAVE CALLED FORD 6 TIMES TO FILE COMPLAINT STATING SINCE PURCHASING VEHICLE NEW IN DEC 2000, HAVE HAD NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED (WARRANTY COVERED); NEW FUEL PUMP (WARRANTY COVERED); AND NEW MASTER CYLINDER (PAID OUT OF POCKET). AUTO STALLED WHILE GOING 30 MPH ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. AUTO LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND ELECTRICAL. IT WAS LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS AROUND (EARLY MORNING). WE HAD TO COAST TO SIDE, AND BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE POWER STEERING I HIT THE CURB PRETTY HARD. ON THE WAY HOME IT DID THE SAME THING AT ABOUT 40 MPH. WILL TAKE THIS TO MARKEL FORD IN OMAHA, NE FOR FIX. WE HAVE 44,000 MILES, AND IF FORD CANNOT GET THIS FIXED IT WILL BE TIME TO SELL. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE CABLE FOR THE AIR BAG UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS CUT WHEN THE SEAT WAS ADJUSTED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DETERMINED THE PROBLEM AFTER IT WAS MISDIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO FREE REMEDY. A REPAIR WAS MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. ABS SENSORES GOT MUD IN THEM FAILED AND BURNT OUT. I HAVE REPLACED 4 ABS SENSORSE IN 5 MONTH PERIOD. I WAS TOLD BECAUSE OF MUD GETTING IN THEM. DEALER SHIP AND FORD CUSTOMOER SERVICE TELL ME TO WASH SENSORS OFF WHEN EVER I DRIVE THROUGH THE MUD. I LIVE ON A DIRT ROAD. SO I WOULD HALF TO CRAWL UNDER THE CAR AND WASH ALL SENSORSE EVERY DAY. I GET IN MY CAR IN THE MORNING TO TAKE THE KIDS TO THE SCHOOL BUS HALF WAY THERE THE ABS WARNING LIGHT GOES ON. WHEN I GET HOME IF I CRAWL UNDER THE CAR AND WASH OUT SENSORES THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF. THEN LATER IN THE DAY WHEN I GO TO PICK UP THE KIDS THE SAME THING HAPPENS. IF I WASH THE SENSORES EVERYTIME I GO THROUGH THE MUD ABS BREAKS WILL WORK UNTILL I GET MUD IN THEM. IF I DONT WASH MUD OUT OF SENSORES EVENTUALLY THEY WILL BURN OUT. THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THIS IS NORMAL MAINTANACE. I CANT BELIEVE THEY WOULD CONSIDER THAT NORMAL. I HAVE SPENT MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS SUV DRIVING IT WITH OUT ABS BREAKS. I THINK THEY SHOULD FIX THIS DESIGN PROBLEM, BEFORE I GET INTO AN ACIDENT WITH OUT THE USE OF MY ABS BRAKES. I WANT PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE I HAVE AN ACCIDENT WITH NO ABS BRAKES. THEY BLAME THE PROBLEM ON ME FOR NOT KEEPING IT CLEAN. OVER THE YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR THAT I BOUGHT NEW FOR MY DAUGHTER WE HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES FOR A STICKING THROTTLE AND CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS. I HAVE RECORDS OF 6 DIFFERENT TIMES WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THROTTLE PROBLEMS. THE LAST TIME THE THROTTLE STUCK IT CAUSED OUR VEHICLE TO HIT THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER COMPLAINING OF THE MOTOR REVVING UP CAUSING THE ACCIDENT. TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS AND SHAKES WHEN ACCELERATING ON HIGHWAY, WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE WHEN IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HALF OF THE TIME. FORD SERVICE NEVER FINDS ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AND SAYS SINCE THERE ARE NO CODES ONTO THE COMPUTER IT MUST BE OK. *LA
