ENGINE SURGE - FORD ESCAPE 2001 - TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 54,000MILES. IN RELATION TO INTERMIT PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, THE VEHICLES (OFTEN WHEN PLACED IN PARK SETTING) ENGINE WOULD SURGE CAUSING THAT TACHOMETER TO RACE TO ABOUT 5 TO 6 THOUSAND REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE. ON DECEMBER, 8, 2004 WHILE IN A PARKING LOT AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION SET IN D, THE VEHICLE ENGINE SURGED IS THE SAME MANOR AS DESCRIBED ABOVE, AND CAUSED THE DRIVER TO HOLD THE BRAKE WITH FULL FORCE IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM HITTING A PARKED CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (FREEDOM FORD, HAMPTON VA) WHEN THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ENGINE SURGE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40-50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO IDLE. THE BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL FELT SLUGGISH. THE CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE MECHANIC CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM. RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V165000 REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED IN MAY FOR THE ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING. *AK *SC
MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION.THE DEALER EXPLAINED IT AS A" ANTI- THEFT SYSTEM" GONE BAD.SO MY IGNITION HAD TO BE RE-KEYED.(HAD TO BUY NEW KEYS). OF COURSE THAT TOOK 3 DAYS. I CALLED FORDS AND THEY SAID EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A CODE IN THERE COMPUTER FOR THIS.NO RECALL HAS BEEN ORDERED ON THIS PROBLEM. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPER QUITS. FORD WILL NOT HONOR THEIR RECALL (NHTSA RECALL NO. 00V387002/FORD RECALL NO. 00S49). *AK
2001 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION SHUDDER DURING SHIFTING AT APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES. AT 30,000 MILES, DEALER PERFORMED TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH WHICH RESULTED IN THE SHUDDER GOING AWAY. RECENTLY THE SHUDDER HAS RETURNED. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS RESULTING IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE RPMS SUDDENLY JUMPED UP TO BETWEEN 5000 AND 6000. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER DRIVEABLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. A RECALL WAS ISSUED. HOWEVER, THE RECALL HAD BEEN CLOSED. *AK
ABS HARNESS CAUGHT ON FIRE ON MY WAY BACK FROM L.A. *AK
SUDDEN FAILURE OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT WITH COMPLETE NEW TRANSMISSION AND COOLER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS MENTIONED IN RECALL 04V165000. CONTACTED THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
I NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN DRIVING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, BUMPY ROADS. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE SHOCK AND STRUT ON DRIVERS SIDE AND SWAY BAR LINKS NEEDED TO REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE IS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE WITH 50,000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT NEED THESE REPAIRS THIS EARLY. THE SHOCK AND STRUT ON DRIVERS SIDE AS WELL AS SWAY BAR LINKS REPLACED.
WHEN DRIVING ANY SPEED, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO GET THE PEDAL UNSTUCK. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *NM
JUST DRIVING, CAME TO A SLOW ARE AND WHEN ACCELERATING IT FEELS AND SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS OR IT WOULD STALL IN THE GEAR. TOOK IT TO THE DON KOTT FORD FOR SERVICE AND THEY CHARGED ME FOR A TRANSMISSION SERVICE.*AK I TOOK IT BACK AND AFTER ONE DAY IT HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCURRING SEVERAL TIMES. I'M JUST WAITING FOR IT TO FULLY BREAK DOWN BECAUSE I NEED THIS VEHICLE FOR TRANSPORTATION AND I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR MONEY TO GET IT REPAIRED. I FEEL LIKE I GOT RIPPED OFF FOR A USELESS TRANSMISSION SERVICE. TO THIS DAY THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO FEEL LIKE IT HAS A PROBLEM. WHAT I'M DOING TO GET IT TO WORK IS STARTING THE ENGINE AND PUTTING IT IN DRIVE. I PRESS ON THE OVERDRIVE BUTTON THAT IS LOCATED AT THE END OF THE GEAR SHIFTER. THIS WILL GET ME GOING AS I START TO ACCELERATE. HOWEVER, IF I DIDN'T PRESS ON THE OVERDRIVE BUTTON TO GET GOING, THE ACCELERATION WOULD BE POOR AND SOMETIME NOT GO. THERE WERE SEVERAL SITUATIONS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN REVERSE TO BACK UP AND IF IT NEED SOME ACCELERATION TO GET GOING NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. YOU COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REVING UP BUT NO ACCELERATION. ANOTHER TIME WAS WHEN I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND UPON ACCELERATION THE GEARS DIDNT' SEEM TO KICK IN. THE VEHICLE MADE THE ONCOMING CARS EITHER STOP OR SLOW DOWN OR SWERVE. LUCKILY I'M USE TO KNOWING HOW THE VEHICLE OPERATES AND I MAKE SURE THAT I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME BEFORE TURNING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FLAW IN DESIGN AND WORKMANSHIP AND THAT FORD SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO THIS AND EVEN COMPENSATING THOSE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT AND A LAWSUIT ENSUES.
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 83,000 WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT SPEED OF 60MPH. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THIS WAS A LACK OF MAINTENANCE AND WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $3,800 TO FIX. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED TRANS. FOR $3,000. WHILE TAKING APART OLD TRANS FOUND THAT AN INTERNAL COMPONENT FELL APART CAUSING THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. SAID THIS WAS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND NOT FAULT OF 'LACK OF MAINTENANCE'. HAVE CONTACTED FORD SINCE AND THEY REFUSE TO REIMBURSE FOR EXPENSES.*AK
I'VE NOTICED AN AIR-LEAKING/HISSING NOISE THAT HAS GRADUALLY, OVER A FEW WEEKS, GOTTEN LOUDER. THE NOISE GETS QUIETER WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, BUT RETURNS AS SOON AS YOU LET UP ON THE BRAKES. I'VE HAD THE NOISE CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER WAS LEAKING. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A 2001 FORD ESCAPE WITH LESS THAN 51,000 MILES ON IT. THE INTERESTING THING IS, MY MOTHER HAS A 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE, AND SHE JUST HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH HER CAR. HER MILEAGE, TOO, IS AROUND 50,000. WE FIND IT ODD THAT THE VEHICLES ARE MADE BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER AND BOTH HAVE RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. HAVE OTHER DRIVERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THESE VEHICLES?
THE DISPLAY ON MY FORD ESCAPE RADIO HAS STOPPED FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY; THE RADIO ITSELF IS FUNCTIONING. AFTER CALLING SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS, THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER, AND SEARCHING THE INTERNET IT IS VERY APPARENT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN SEVERAL OF THE OEM RADIOS AND THE RESULT OF A DESIGN FLAW. MULTIPLE WEBSITES AND DISCUSSION PAGES REFER TO THIS ISSUE AS BEING THE RESULT OF AN OVERHEAT CONDITION ON THE DISPLAY BOARD DUE TO PROXIMITY OF THE POWER SUPPLY AND IMPROPER HEAT DISSIPATION. *NM
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. BRAKES DECREASED IN BRAKING POWER. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT POWER BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM WAS LEAKING, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO THE PARKING GARAGE VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT COMPUTER SENSOR CRANK, AND IDLER ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE, AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK
EARLY FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION. FORD ESCAPE 2001 CD4E TRANSMISSION FAILED SHORTLY AFTER FORD RECALLED IT AND REPROGAMMED PCM. THIS HAD BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND THE PRODUCT FAILED EARLY. FORD SHOULD BEAR THE BURDEN TO REPAIR THIS AND THEY REFUSED.*AK POOR PRODUCT AND NUMEROUS DESIGN FLAWS ARE DOCUMENTED ON LINE.
THE FRONT SEAT BELTS WILL NOT RESTRAIN THE CONSUMER WHEN THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD VIOLENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER STATED TWO WEEKS LATER WHILE PARKED THE SAME THING OCCURRED AND THE VEHICLE COLLIDED INTO A STORE WINDOW. *JB THE VEHICLE COLLIDED INTO A STORE WINDOW. *SC
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE, WENT OUT I HAD 58,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. HAD TO PUT IN A NEW TRANSMISSION. NOW 4 MONTHS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THE ENGINE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON EVEN THOUGH IT IS FULL. ALL OF THE LIGHTERS/SUN ROOF HAVE NO POWER TO THEM THEY ALL QUIT. I HAVE REPLACED ALL FUSES, WITH NO LUCK. NOW THE ALL LIGHTS ON THE RADIO ARE GONE, BUT THE RADIO STILL WORKS. *AK
ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATING INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER REPLACED VARIOUS PARTS ON ALL OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. *JB
I HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT TIRES EXCHANGED ON MY VEHICLE SINCE THE PURCHASE DATE OF FEB. 7 2001. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN EVERY 5000 MILES FOR SERVICE AND EVERYTIME I HAVE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR PULLS IMMEDIATELY TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE GONE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP EVEYTIME AND VOICED MY COMPLAINT. AT 15000 MILES THE TIRE MANAGER EXPLAINED IT WAS MY TIRES AND HAD ME PURCHASE A SET OF 4. AT 35000 MILES THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TIRES AGAIN THIS TIME AT NO CHARGE. I AM NOW AT 64000 AND THIRD SET OF TIRES. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING APPROX 55 MPH WHEN THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE TREAD FELL OFF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE AND WILL BE VISITING THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY. I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE EXACT NUMBER OF THE TIRES IS BUT IT IS THE GRABBER TIRE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION.. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AS A RESULT DRIVER SUSTAINED CERVICAL SPINE STRAIN. *AK
OVERDRIVE ON/OFF LIGHT FLASHING COINCIDENTALLY WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH FOR 5 TO 10 MILES. WHILE OFF THE HIGHWAY THE TRANSMISSION SHUTTERED WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. DRIVER TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD AN INTERNAL BUSHING ON THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. DEALER SAID THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST $3,000. VEHICLE IS 3.5 YEARS OLD WITH 63,000 MILES.*AK
I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. I WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE STALLING RECALL; SO I HAD IT SERVICED (REPROGRAMMED COMPUTER). AFTER IT WAS WORKED ON, ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER IT BEGAN TO STALL WHEN STARTING. IT WOULDN'T IDLE. NOW IT JUST DIES WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED TO US ABOUT 30 TIMES TODAY. I REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER HOPING THAT WAS IT; IT DIDN'T HELP. IT ONLY HAS 39,000 MILES ON IT. THE THING IS, I DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT UNTIL WE TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL. *JB
TWICE IN LAST YEAR (EXCLUDING TODAY) I HAD UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE. BOTH TIMES I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND SUV HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. I STEPPED ON BRAKES - IT DID NOTHING. I TRIED TO PULL UP ON GAS PEDAL - NOTHING HAPPENED. FINALLY STOPPED WITH NEUTRAL AND EMERGENCY BRAKE...TOOK SUV TO FORD - THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ON 6/18/04. TODAY (7/23/04) WHILE ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING TO WORK (IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFICE), I ACCELERATED TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A TRUCK THAT WAS GOING TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY. ACCELERATOR STUCK; BRAKES DID NOT WORK; I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL; ENGINE MADE REALLY LOUD "REVVING" TYPE NOICES; I PUT CAR BACK IN DRIVE AND BRADES STILL DID NOT WORK.. I HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. WHAT SAVED ME FROM A POSSIBLY FATAL ACCIDENT WAS THAT THERE WAS NO ONE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME ON FREEWAY. I CALLED FORD AND AM DROPPING VEHICLE BACK OFF.. THEY THINK IT MIGHT BE THE CABLE NOW. I AM AFR AID TO DRIVE IT. I WAS DOING ABOUT 62 MPH THIS AM AND WHEN IT ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN - I WENT UP TO ABOUT 78 MPH.*AK
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON I-75 NEAR GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA LAST WEEK. I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE WHEN I HEARD AND FELT THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD BEATING ON MY CAR. IT HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE WITHOUT WARNING. IT ALL HAPPENED SO FAST, I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO GET ONTO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. MY CAR BEGAN TO PULL TO THE LEFT UNCONTROLLABLY, CRASHED INTO THE GUARD RAIL AT OVER 60 MPH, BOUNCED OFF AND SENT ME SLIDING SIDEWAYS FOR ABOUT 100 FEET. BY THE GRACE OF GOD, MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF WERE NOT PHYSICALLY INJURED. THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR IS ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND $6,000.00. THE TIRES WERE THE ORIGINAL FACTORY TIRES ON MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE AND HAVE ONLY 26,000 MILES ON THEM. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE BUT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE MANUFACTURERS ARE AWARE OF THE TREAD SEPARATION BUT CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I AM WONDERING IF YOU CAN ADVISE ME TO WHAT RECOURSE I HAVE IN ORDER TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING TO OTHER UNSUSPECTING MOTORISTS. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD ONLY CAR DAMAGE, I FEAR OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO FORTUNATE AND THIS MATTER NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *AK

TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP FAILED WITHOUT EXPLANATION, CAUSING TROQUE CONVERTER TO FAIL, CAUSING BURNOUT OF LOW GEAR. VEHICILE IS INOPERATIVE. NEEDS TRANS. REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT $3,000. - $3,500. SERVICE DEPT AT DEALER CAN'T OFFER AN EXPLANATION FOR PUMP FAILURE. VEHICLE HAS 60000 MILES. TO SOON FOR THIS KIND OF PROBLEM! *LA
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. WHILE THE CONSUMER SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO PARK, THE VEHICLES RPMS WENT UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THE MECHANIC CLEANED THE AIR IDLE CONTROL. *AK WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE RPM'S ACCELERATED BETWEEN 4000 AND 5000. *SC *JB
IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WOULD NOT TURN. ITHAD TO BE REPLACED BY A MECHANIC. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, IT IS SAID TO BE A REOCCURING PROBLEM PER BRADY, TX FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES THE OCCUPANT TO BECOME STRANDED; MAKING THEM A HAZARD ON THE ROAD. PLEASE RECALL OTHERS TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. *AK
VEHICLE HAD A RECALL TO REPROGRAM POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE WHICH WAS CORRECTED (?) ON 6/9/04. ON 7/2/04 VEHICLE WOULD NOT IDLE AND SUBSEQUENTLY WOULD QUIT RUNNING. TAKEN TO DEALER AND DEALER REPLACED IGNITION CONTROL VALVE. DEALER STATES IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAM. CAR WAS OUT OF MANUFACTURER WARRANTY, WITH 36,568 MILES AT TIME OF FAILURE. OTHER ITEMS OF CONCERN ON THIS VEHICLE INCLUDE THE LEFT HEADLIGHT AS DEFECTIVE ASSEMBLY AND ALLOWS MOISTURE BUILDUP. DEALER AGAIN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE A DEFECT AND REFUSES TO REPAIR AT THEIR COST (ESTIMATE COST APPX. $200 TO REPAIR THEIR DEFECT). OTHER ISSUES INCLUDE THE REPLACEMENT OF A COOLANT SENSOR, AND REPLACED A DPFE (ENVIRONMENT PROBLEM THAT WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY). *NM

WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONSUMER RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER. THE CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTO SERVICE FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *AK THERE WAS GRINDING AND A ROUND METAL OBJECT SNAPPED AND BROKE OFF OF THE AC COMPRESSOR. THERE WERE ALSO PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG AND THE STEERING. *SC *JB
THE SUV SAT PARKED FOR A 3 DAY PERIOD. HEAVY RAIN STORMS MOVED THROUGH AREA FOR 1 AND 1/2 DAYS OF THAT TIME HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN. AFTER THE 3RD DAY, THE SUV WAS STARTED AT WHICH TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK AND WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED FOR POWER, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED. PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A 'BAD COIL PACK". IT WAS REPLACED AND GIVEN BACK. AFTER 3 DAYS OF DRIVING, THE SAME FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE "COIL PACK" AND THE WIRING HARNESS. JUST OVER 6 MONTHS LATER, THE SAME SITUATION OCCURED WITH THE VEHICLE. IT SAT FOR 4 DAYS IN WHICH TIME A SEVERE RAIN STORM CAME THROUGH HOWEVER VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN NOR STANDING IN WATER. STARTED THE VEHICLE ON THE 4TH DAY WITH THE EXACT SAME RESULT. VEHICLE IS IN FORD GARAGE AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE COIL PACK WAS DAMAGED DUE TO MOISTURE. THESE FAILURES ARE NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND SHOULD BE HAPPENING.
WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, BUT DEALERSHIP DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH TRANSMISSION FAILED, AND VEHICLE POPPED OUT OF GEAR. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
PURCHASED ESCAPE NEW IN 2001. IN 2002, WITH 30,000 MILES, TRANSMISSION HAD A SEVERE SHUDDER, SO I TOOK INTO THE DEALER AND WAS CHARGES OVER $100 FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. SHUDDER CAME BACK ABOUT 3 MONTHS LATER, WENT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT ANOTHER $100 TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS NEEDED. I DID NOT AGREE AND LEFT. IN JUNE OF 2004, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, TRANSMISSION STARTED WHINNING AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY AT SLOW SPEEDS. MANAGED TO GET IT HOME(20 MILES IN ABOUT AN HOUR!) AND PARKED IT. AFTER THAT, IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. HAD IT TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP(DEALER WANTED $120 JUST TO RUN A CHECK ON IT) AND THEY SAID IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $2600. DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY, SO IT HAS BEEN PARKED NOW FOR ALMOST SIX MONTHS. TRANSMISSION IS THE CD4E, A PROBLEM CHILD FOR FORD. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY ACTED AS IF THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM, AND SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. NOW, STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON IT AND WITH ONLY 84,000 MILES ON IT, I HAVE NO RECOURSE BUT TO LET IT SIT UNTIL I CAN SAVE THE MONEY TO HAVE IT FIXED. *JB
THE LIFTGATE DOOR WOULD OPEN WHEN THE REMOTE IS USED. POSSIBLE RECALL 04V602000. *AK THE LIFTGATE WOULD NOT LOCK AT TIMES. THEN SOMETIMES WHEN THE REMOTE WAS USED TO OPEN THE LIFTGATE, IT WOULD NOT OPEN. *SC
