MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE XLT'S ENGINE HAS NOW FAILED THREE TIMES WHILE I'VE BEEN DRIVING. I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER, LOSS OF SPEED, AND LOSS OF POWER-STEERING. THE LAST DRIVING CONDITION WAS ON I-95 SOUTH AT 55 MPH ON A CONJESTED HIGHWAY. WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING EACH TIME MY ESCAPE'S ENGINE FAILED, AND ONLY BRIEFLY (A FEW SECONDS) AFTERWARDS. I THOUGHT FIRST TWO TIMES WERE A FLUKE, BUT AM NOW CONCERNED FOR MY AND OTHER'S SAFETY. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER SAID, WHEN ASKED, HE REALLY HASN'T HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I'VE JUST TODAY RESEARCHED TH NHTSA'S WEBSITE AND HAVE FOUND, SO FAR, 55 OTHER SHOCKINGLY SIMILAR REPORTS. WHO HAS TO DIE?*AK
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JUNE 2001. IN AUGUST 2001 VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. CONSUMER HAS TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER 4 TIMES FOR REPAIR, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR AND VEHICLE STALLS.*AK
THERE IS A ROARING SOUND AND A GRINDING IN FRONT LEFT SIDE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING MOTOR WOULD STALL WITHOUT ANY WARNING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR STALLING, BUT THE MECHANIC WASN'T ABLE TO DUPLICATE AND REPAIR FAILURE. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
CONSUMER STATED ON JULY 2, 2002 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A BROKEN HEADLIGHT AND MISSING EQUIPMENT FROM THE VEHICLE, ON JULY 23, 2002 THE VEHICLE BEGAN EXPERIENCING STALLING, BRAKE AND ODOMETER PROBLEMS, THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED DUE TO A FLAW, THE STALLING AND THE ODOMETER PROBLEMS COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED, ALSO THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE SPEAKERS AND THE CLUTCH STICKING, CONSUMER STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE PARKING BRAKE DISENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED INTO A HOTEL.*JB
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2002 FORD ESCAPE THE ENGINE STALLS GO DOWN HILL 30-40MPH NO POWER STEERING--ENGINE LIGHT & OIL LIGHT COMES ON. ESCAPE TOWED BACK TO DEALER . DEALER UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, DEALER DID NOT KNOW OF ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH THE 2002 ESCAPES, I TOLD HIM TO LOOK IT UP ON THE NHTSA CONSUMER COMPLAINTS DATABASE.LOTS OF THEM LIKE THIS ONE . CALLED FORD MOTOR ON THERE 1-800 LINE TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT.
PURCHASED 2002 FORD ESCAPE FROM HINDER FORD OF ABERDEEN, MD IN JUNE 02 AND FROM THE START THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS CRACKED AND THE VEHICLE PULLS (NOT DRIFTS) TO THE LEFT SO BAD THAT THE VEHICLE LEFT FRONT TIRE WILL CROSS THE LINE IN 5 SECONDS IF STEERING WHEEL IS RELEASED WHILE IN THE RIGHT LANE OF A TWO LANE AND WITHIN 3 SECONDS IF IN THE LEFT LANE. HINDER FORD GAVE ME THE FORD 800 NUMBER TO CALL BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO EVEN AFTER I PROVIDED THEM EXCERPTS FROM MARYLAND LAW THAT STATES A VEHICLE WITH A STEERING OR BRAKING PROBLEM THAT CAN NOT BE FIXED THE FIRST TIME IS TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE REFUSED. I COMPLAINED TO THE ON-LINE CUSTOMER SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THEY FINALLY SENT THE AREA FORD TECH TO INVESTIGATE. HE REPLIED THAT THERE WAS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM (HE STATED HE HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE), ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HINDER RETURNED THE VEHICLE AND AGAIN STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I SENT CERTIFIED/RETURN RECEIPT LETTERS TWICE TO FORD MOTOR CO. AND LATEST RESULT WAS A CALL LAST WEEK FROM MR. DUNCAN ALBERSON WHO AGREED THAT A CRACKED WHEEL AND THIS VEHICLE LEAVING THE ROAD WITHIN THREE SECONDS WAS NOT SAFE, BUT THAT HE WAS GOING WITH A REPORT THAT HE HAD FROM THE AREA FORD TECH WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WITHIN SPECIFICATION AND THAT I SHOULD DRIVE WITH MY HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL! I STATED I RELEASE THE WHEEL ONLY TO EMPHASIZE THE DRASTIC PULL OF THIS STEERING AND OF COURSE I DRIVE WITH MY HAND ON THE WHEEL AT ALL TIMES! I TOLD MR. DUNCAN TO SIMPLY SEND ANOTHER TECH TO TEST DRIVE MY VEHICLE ANY TIME AND ANY PLACE AND HIS RESPONSE ... HE HUNG UP! POSSIBLY BECAUSE I ALSO TOLD HIM HINDER FORD HAS SOLD TWO OTHER VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IF YOU KNOW OF A GOOD LAW FIRM IN MY AREA PLEASE GIVE ME THEIR NUMBER. TS
AT 30MPH VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
PURCHASED 1ST ESCAPE 6-7-02. DEALER HAD CAR 7 OUT OF 11 DAYS FOR STALLING ISSUES AND HATCH LOCK REPAIRS. DEALER REPLACED VEHICLE WITH NEW VEHICLE 6-25-02. ON 6-26-02 NEW CAR STALLED ON DECELERATION BETWEEN 6-6:30 PM GOING DOWN AN INCLINE ON PEARL DRIVE. ON 6-28-02 CAR STALLED ON DECELERATION AROUND 5 PM ON DOWNHILL SLOPE OF MUEGGE ROAD. THE CAR WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REQUEST ALL TSB TESTS BE PERFORMED BY DEALER AT ONE TIME TO REMEDY ISSUES. AM CURRENTLY WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM FORD TO SEE IF THAT IS GOING TO BE POSSIBLE.
AS I WAS DESCENDING DOWN A HILL, TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH, AND TURNING A BEND, I NOTICED THAT MY POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING AND THEN THAT MY BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING AND THAT ONE OF MY INDICATOR LIGHTS WAS LIT ON MY DASHBOARD. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND TURNED THE KEY BACK ON AND IT STARTED. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS AROUND BECAUSE MY BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALER WHO DID NOT EVEN WRITE MY CONCERN DOWN. I HAVE SINCE SENT THEM A FORMAL LETTER. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE, BUT IT COULD BE DANGEROUS WHILE TRAVELING ON BUSY ROADS.*AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING AS SHE TURNED AROUND A BEND, AND HER BRAKES WERE NOT EITHER.(VEHICLE HAD TURNED OFF WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE) CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF VEHICLE TURNS OFF AND SHE IS NOT ABLE TO RESTART IT IN TIME TO USE THE BRAKES. *SCC MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED. *TT
I OWN A 2002 FORD ESCAPE AND ONLY ONE MONTH OF HAVING IT ALL OF THE LIGHTS LIGHTED UP ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE ENGINE STOP WHILE GOING DOWN AN INTERSTATE RAMP. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS IN TRAFFIC GOING AT ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN IT SHUT OFF CAUSING TO REAR-END THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT'S A PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED, I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY CLAIM THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. THE DEALER CHECKED IT AND SAID IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER CARS, BUT THAT THE PROBLEMS HAD BEEN FIXED THAT IT WAS ONLY ON THE ONES FROM 2001. THE DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T AWARD THE WARRANTY THAT THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT SINCE APRIL 2002 IT HAS HAPPEN AT LEAST 5 TIMES WITH 1 ACCIDENT . *LA
VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. OCCURS GOING UPHILL OR DOWNHILL. (3 OUT OF 4 TIMES ON SAME BLOCK OF A MAIN STREET). HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES THIS YEAR ALREADY. RESULTS IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, AND POWER BRAKES. TO DATE NO ACCIDENTS, BUT PROBABILITY FOR A FATAL INCIDENT TO OCCUR IS VERY HIGH! HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE ALREADY. THE SUV VIBRATES AT 50 PLUS MPH. DEALER ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT, UNABLE TO PIN POINT PROBLEM. CONSIDERING THE LEMON LAW AT THIS TIME. DT
ENGINED STALL WHILE COASTING DOWN A HILL AT 35 MPH. LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKING.*AK
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AND THIS TIME I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. ALL FUNCTIONS SUDDENLY LOCKED UP. I HAD NO FUNCTIONALITY IN STEERING, BRAKES, AND ACCELERATION. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AND CAR SLOWLY DIED. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. DRIVER SIDE VIEW MIRROR GLASS SHAKES AND FLUTTERS WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS. DRIVER CANNOT SAFELY TRUST MIRROR FOR REAR AND SIDE VIEWS OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ON DRIVER SIDE OF AUTO DUE TO THE CONSTANT SHAKING OF THE MIRROR. DEALER REPLACED ENTIRE DRIVER SIDE VIEW MIRROR, HOWEVER, THE SAFETY DEFECT CONTINUES TO PERSIST AND DRIVER STILL CANNOT BE ASSURED OF REAR AND SIDE VIEWS OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ON DRIVER SIDE. THE DEALER SAYS THAT FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND STATES "NORMAL" BODY VIBRATION MAY CAUSE THIS EXCITING THE MIRROR GLASS. THIS IS NOT A "NORMAL" BODY VIBRATION. FORD STATES THAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED DURING THE 3RD QUARTER OF 2002.*AK
THIS CAR HAS HAD VARIOUS DEFECTS IN THE 8 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE HAD THE REAR WIPER ARM AND WINDSHIELD FLUID RECEPTACLE REPLACED. NEXT THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THIS RESULTED IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. NEXT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AT 40 MPH RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC NOT ONCE, BUT THREE TIMES. I FEEL THIS SUV IS NOT DEPENDABLE OR SAFE TO DRIVE. I AM SCHEDULED TO TAKE A VACATION AND DRIVE FROM WISCONSIN TO ARKANSAS IN THE AUGUST HEAT, BUT I AM HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS. I WOULD LIKE TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE. IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

FORD TOLD THE DEALER TO INSTALL A NEW ENGINE (ON MY BRAND NEW CAR). THEY GAVE ME A CHEAP RENTAL CAR TO DRIVE WHILE MY NEW ONE IS BEING REPAIRED. I PAID CASH FOR THE CAR. AFTER 1ST INCIDENT, FORD REPLACED AIR IDLE CONTROL VALVE EEC RELAY; AFTER 2ND INCIDENT, FORD REPLACED FUEL PUMP RELAY AND EEC RELAY AGAIN. THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN VEHICLE STALLS, IT OCCURS WHEN DRIVING AND IMMEDIATELY STEERING AND BRAKES FAIL.
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS FROM FIRST DAY I BOUGHT THE TRUCK STARTING WITH ALL MY CD'S GETTING JAMMED ONE AT A TIME EJECTING FROM MY 6XCD INDASH CHANGER I ALSO THEN PROCEEDED TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH STARTING THE TRUCK IN COLD OR HOT WEATHER OR EVEN HUMID WEATHER PROCEEDING WITH CONSTANT BREAK NOISES FROM FIRST WEEK WHICK MULTIPLE TIMES ITS BEEN WORKED ON BUT NO LUCK FIXING ALSO NOW LEFT DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT CASING STARTED PRESENTING A BAD SEAL IN HEADLIGHT WHICH IN RETURN CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO REPLACE SET OF HEADLIGHTS WITH INSTALLATION FOR 90 DOLLARS ALSO MY SUNROOF IS STICKING WHEN YOU GO TO SHUT IT AND HODING DOWN BUTTON AND OUT OF ALL THESE DEFECTS YOU THINK IT WOULDNT BE ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH TRYING TO GET FIXED WHEN YOU WORK TWO FULL TIME JOBS AND HAD NO TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK AND YET FORD DEALERSHIP DID NOT WANT TO ASSIST ME IN ANY WAY WITH RENTAL FOR THEIR DEFECTS OF VEHICLE LEAVING ME STUCK WITH NO TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK DUE TO RELOCATING TO DALLAS THEN ATLANTA AND NOT KNOWING ANYONE WHOM COULD HELP ME WITH GETTING TO EMPLOYMENT AND HOME LOCATIONS BUT TO TOP IT OFF MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE XLT IS ALSO HAVING A PROBLEM WITH LEATHER SEATS WEARING EXTREMLY BAD YET I TRY TO KEEP THEM AS CLEAN AND REPLIISHED AS POSSIBLE BUT YET SEATS ARE OF POOR QUALITY WHICH ALSO THE LEATHER STEARING WHEEL IS FADING WITH SPOTS OF DARKER AND LIGHTER LEATHER WRAPPING AND SAME FOR THE DASH AND RADIO CONTROLS, ALL ARE FADING WITH DARK AND LIGHTER BLACK SPOTS ALL OVER YET I KEEP MY TRUCK SPOTLESS AND I TAKE EXTREME CARE OF IT FOR MY VEHICLE IS MY BABY BUT SEEMS TO BE WITH FORD IM GOING TO BE FORCED TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE WITH ALL THE SAFETY ISSUES OF THE ENGINE STALLING NOT STARTING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SHIFT IN GEAR AND FORCING THE VEHICLE IGNITION TO BE SWUTCHED OFF AND THEN BACK ON TO START BACK UP (IF IT WILL START THE NEXT TIME)

I WAS DRIVING IN AFTERNOON TRAFFIC YESTERDAY WHEN MY CAR WENT FROM 40 MPH TO 20 MPH. OIL LIGHT AND EMISSIONS LIGHT CAME ON, AND THEN THE CAR STALLED AND ROLLED TO A STOP. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND IT RESTARTED AFTER FIVE MINUTES. I MADE IT HOME. IT WAS QUITE SCARY AS I WAS SITTING IN TRAFFIC. I HAD HEARD FROM SOMEONE IN A SHOPPING CENTER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2001 MODEL. UPON RESEARCH ON YOUR SITE TODAY, I AM ALARMED AT THE NUMBER OF OCCURRENCES AND THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I WILL BE TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY FOR REPAIR. I AM CONCERNED THAT FORD HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS AFTER READING HOW WIDE-SPREAD THIS IS. AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I ACCELERATED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. DURING THE TURN THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND THE BREAKS DID NOT WORK, THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND I FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT THE ENGINE HAD STALLED. I COASTED DOWN THE DOWNHILL SLOPE AND FINALLY RESTARTED THE ESCAPE AFTER PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL. LUCKILY, THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. WHEN I CALLED MARSHALL FORD EAST IN CLEVELAND, OHIO THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND SINCE IT HAD NOT HAPPENED AGAIN IT WAS NOT FURTHER INVESTIGATED.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLS LOSING ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING, THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK *NLM
ALL FUNCTIONS SUDDENLY LOCKED UP. I HAD NO FUNCTIONALITY IN STEERING, BRAKES, AND ACCELERATION. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AND CAR SLOWLY DIED. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. BUT THIS COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT IF ENVIRONMENT, SPEED, ETC., WERE JUST SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT.
WITH NO WARNING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON OUR ESCAPE FAILED COMPLETELY AT 44,130 MILES. SO FAR, NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE HAS BEEN OFFERED BY FORD OR THE REPAIRING DEALER DISPITE ATTEMPTS BY ME TO GET RELIEF FOR THE $2700 REPAIR BILL! WE HAVE HAD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVETRAIN SINCE ABOUT 18,000 MILES AND HAD IT CHECKED AT 25,000 BY OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT IT WAS ONLY TIRE NOISE...WHICH WHILE VERY SCEPTICAL, WE ACCEPTED WITH THE CAVEAT THAT WHEN WE EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE TIRES, THE NOISE WOULD BE GONE OUR WE EXPECTED THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED AT NO CHARGE. SINCE THE TRANSMISSION'S VERY PREMATURE FAILURE, WE HAVE REVISITED THE POWERTRAIN NOISE AS WE NOW SUSPECT ITS SOURCE MAY HAVE CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED, THE WHEELS AND TIRES HAVE BEEN SUBSTITUTED AND THE VERY LOUD NOISE CONTINUES. TWO FORD DEALERS HAVE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NO ONE YET HAS AN IDEA OF WHAT THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE IS NOW! THIS TRUCK IS A TRUE LEMON AND I THINK FORD SHOULD BE STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE TO FIX AND PAY FOR THIS PROBLEM AS WELL AS ALL OR MOST OF THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR!!!!
WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS, I LOSE ALL STEERING CAPABILITIES. I HAVE NO BRAKES OR GAS. THIS HAPENS WITHOUT RESON OR ADVANCE NOTICE. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED.
MUSTY/FOUL SMELL COMING FROM THE HEATING/AIR CONDITIONER VENTS.*AK
ON TWO OCCASIONS, WHILE COASTING DOWN A HILL NEAR MY HOME, THE ENGINE OF MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE XLT HAS QUIT. I DISCOVERED THIS WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AT THE BOTTOM ON THE HILL, ONLY TO FIND THAT THE GAS PEDAL DIDNT RESPOND. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTARTED IT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, I PUT THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO NEUTRAL AND QUICKLY RESTARTED WHILE COASTING ALONG. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, CARS IN BACK OF ME HAD TO BRAKE SHARPLY TO AVOID COLLISION. BOTH INSTANCES WERE IN APRIL 2002, ABOUT THREE WEEKS APART. AT THE TIME, THE CAR WAS ABOUT 5 MONTHS OLD AND HAD BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT 5500 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 5/23/02. THE INVOICE SAYS THAT THEY PERFORMED A WDS TEST, REBURNED AND UPDATED THE PROCESSOR. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT NEW PARTS WERE USED. HANDWRITTEN NOTES ON THE PAPERWORK INDICATE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS USED TO GUIDE THE REPAIR, BUT THE NUMBER WASNT GIVEN. *AK
PE 01 043/ENGINE STALLING: VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK *JG
PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED MANUALLY. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE STALLED TWICE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. AT DEALERSHIP AT THIS TIME.*AK. WHILE IN MOTION VEHICLE CUT OFF. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AND PROCEED. A WEEK LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS EXPLAINED THE VEHICLE DEPROGRAMED ITSELF AND HAD TO BE PROGRAMMED BACK. *JG
ON 4/15/02 AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY A 1/2 HOUR ON A CLEAR DAY AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH ON SLIGHT DOWNGRADE WITHOUT ANY INDICATION CAR STALLED. LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING THE STEERING AND BRAKES AND ALMOST WRAPPED MYSELF AROUND A TREE. BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE PCM. TWO DAYS LATER MY FIANCE WAS DOING 60 MPH ON LI EXPRESSWAY WHEN AGAIN WITHOUT ANY INDICATION THE CAR STALLED ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. CALLED MCDANIEL FORD AND WAS TOLD TO CALL AAA TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALER BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A LONER BECAUSE IT WASN'T FIGURED INTO THE COST OF THE CAR AND THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY SUCH PROBLEMS WITH THE ESCAPE. CALLED AAA THREE TIMES THE FIRST CALL AT 2 PM ON 04/18/02 AND THEY COULD NOT GET A TOW UNTIL 04/19/02. CONTACTED FORD ON 04/18/02 AND REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT THERE WERE NO SIMILIAR COMPLAINTS AND NO RECALLS BUT TO CONTACT THE DEALER.*AK
