MY DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND LEFT ME WITHOUT BRAKES. LUCKILY, IT HAPPENED IN MY GARAGE, SO THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. I INSPECTED THE OTHER 3 BRAKE LINES AND THEY WERE ON THE VERGE OF RUPTURING. I REPLACED ALL 4 LINES. I REALIZE THE PARTS ARE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY ANYMORE, BUT REPLACING BRAKE LINES AFTER 7 YEARS IS MUCH SOONER THAN I WOULD EXPECT. BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT BE A NORMAL SERVICE ITEM LIKE SPARK PLUGS. I LIKE MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE. I DON'T WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT, BUT I NEED TO REPORT THIS DANGEROUS INCIDENT. IT APPEARS TO ME THERE IS A QUALITY DEFECT WITH THE BRAKE LINES. OTHER ESCAPE OWNERS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS. THEY NEED TO CHECK THEIR BRAKE LINES AND REPLACE THEM IF NECESSARY. I'M AFRAID SOMEONE'S BRAKE LINE WILL RUPTURE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
2005 FORD ESCAPE HAS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY LOCKING UP. SOMETIMES TAPPING PEDAL WILL FREE IT. AS OF 3/5/2013 I AM NOT ALLOWING MY DAUGHTER TO USE THIS VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED ONLY TO HAVE THE MECHANIC UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON THE WEB,THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE. FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING THE CAUSE AND ISSUE A RECALL ASAP,BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE PASSENGER REAR SHOCK MOUNT HAD ROTTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED THAT A NEW VEHICLE BE PURCHASED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,028.
RIGHT REAR WHEEL HOUSING THAT ALSO IS THE TOP RIGHT REAR SHOCK MOUNT IS COMPLETELY RUSTED LOOSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE ATTEMPTED TO DECELERATE BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT STOPPING DISTANCE ALSO INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL CORRODED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE METAL AND ENCOMPASSES THE ENTIRE UPPER SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNTING POINT. NOTHING IS HOLDING THE UPPER SHOCK ABSORBER ATTACHMENT IN PLACE. *TR
OUR 2005 FORD ESCAPE HAS A SURGING PROBLEM.WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT,EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE ENGINE WILL SUDDENLY SPEED UP.TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING FORWARD YOU HAVE TO PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL.A FORD DEALERSHIP WANTED $85.00 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED THEN STALLED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE COILS AND COMPUTER WERE DEFECTIVE. AS A RESULT, THE COILS, COMPUTER, AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 131,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT 45 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND CAME TO VERY QUICK HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL GARAGE, IT WAS HOOKED UP TO A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC TOOL. THE TROUBLE CODES CAME UP P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354 WHICH I'M BEING TOLD IT WILL COST ME $ 750.00 TO REPLACE ALL 6 COILS, $1100.00 TO REPLACE THE PCM MODULE AND I WILL NEED 6 NEW SPARK PLUGS. THESE PRICES DON'T INCLUDE LABOR OR DIAGNOSTIC COSTS EITHER. IN DOING SOME INVESTIGATION THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE EMISSION WARRANTY ONLY COVERS YOU FOR 8 YEARS/80,000 MILES. NOT SURE WHAT A PCM MODULE IS OR WHAT COILS DO. THANK YOU FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR INSTALLING FAULTY PARTS IN MY MOTOR WHEN THEY BUILT IT IN 2005. NOW THIS IS MY PROBLEM AND AT MY EXPENSE...... FORD SENT OUT A TBS REGARDING THE WRONG PLUGS WERE INSTALLED WHICH LEADS TO THIS ISSUE. TSB 09-2-6 AND TSB 10-18-10 IS EVIDENCE ENOUGH THEY NEW THERE WAS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH THE FACTORY INSTALLED SPARK PLUGS CAUSING RFI DAMAGE TO THE COP'S AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE ECM. IT APPEARS THEY WERE BETTING THAT MOST VEHICLES WOULD HAVE ISSUES OUTSIDE THE 80,000 MILE FEDERAL WARRANTY. *TR
I RETURNED HOME FROM A LOCAL TRIP. PARKED MY FORD ESCAPE IN THE GARAGE. WHEN MY SON ATTEMPTED TO LEAVE WITH THE CAR ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, THERE WAS LITTLE BRAKING POWER. HE RETURNED THE CAR TO THE GARAGE AND WE NOTICED A LEAK AROUND THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. WHEN I INSPECTED THE LEAK UNDERNEATH THE CAR, AND HAD MY WIFE PUMP THE BRAKES, I SAW THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKE LINE CONNECTION OF RUBBER TO METAL UNDER THE WHEEL WELL. I LOOKED ONLINE AND READ SEVERAL ACCOUNTS OF THE SAME ISSUE, WITH THE BRAKE LINE FAILING ON THE 2005 FORD ESCAPE. I WILL BE HAVING MY ESCAPE BRAKE LINE ISSUE REPAIRED THIS WEEK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT THEN ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE ENTIRE TIRE WELL REAR PASSENGER SIDE HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT IN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. WHILE IT IS NORMAL FOR SOME RUST OVER TIME THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NO OTHER PARTS HAVE ANYWHERE NEAR THIS MUCH IF ANY. I HAVE CONTACTED A REPAIR SHOP ONLY TO FIND OUT THE PART IS OVER 4 WEEKS BACKORDER. APPARENTLY THE MANUFACTURER CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND AS THIS IS A VERY COMMON REPAIR NATIONWIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING 40 MPH OVER A ROAD BUMP WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED AND THE TIRE PENETRATED THROUGH THE FRAME AND INTO THE INTERIOR CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,447.
I REMOVED SEVERAL BAGS FROM THE BACK OF MY ESCAPE (BY OPENING THE DOOR), NOT OPENING THE GLASS. AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR, I WAS GATHERING THE ITEMS WHEN THE GLASS SUDDENLY SHATTERED. IT WAS A COOL MORNING (LOW 30'S, THE REAR DEFROSTER HAD BEEN ON DURING A ~5 MINUTE DRIVE TO WORK), BUT THE GLASS HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED, OPENED OR OTHERWISE IMPACTED. MY HAND WAS CUT BY THE GLASS. I LATER LEARNED THAT SEVERAL OTHER YEARS OF THIS MODEL HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER ABOUT 30 MIN ENGINE STALL AND RED TRIANGLE LIT UP ON DASH. MESSAGE ON LCD SAID TO STOP SAFELY NOW. PULLED OVER AND SHUT CAR OFF, RESTARTED A COUPLE OF MINUTES LATER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER TO DETERMINE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 165,319.
AFTER LUCKILY JUST EXITING INTERSTATE 70, BUT ENTERING HIGHWAY 40 MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY DIED WITH ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS INOPERATIVE (OBVIOUSLY INCLUDING POWER BRAKES, STEERING, ETC). THIS OCCURRED ON AN UPGRADE WITH A CITY BUS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME WHICH WAS FORCED TO SWERVE INTO THE ADJACENT LANE. AUTO WOULD NOT RESTART AND IT WAS TOWED TO A NEIGHBORING FORD DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING OF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ETC. AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS INFORMED THAT AN "ELECTRICAL ENGINE MODULE" HAD BURNED OUT WHICH ALSO COMPLETELY FRIED ALL THE ENGINE COILS. (A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL TUNE-UP,ETC. HAD BEEN PERFORMED ABOUT A YEAR EARLIER). I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS WAS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF A FORD INTERNAL MEMO INDICATING WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THE MODULE MALFUNCTIONED. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT I HAD JUST EXITED AN INTERSTATE, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS AND IT SEEMS THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS PROBLEM. THE COST NOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS $2600 AND I HAVE NO ASSURANCE THAT THIS COULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN WITH MORE SEVERE SQUEALED. *TR
THIS IS BEING RESUBMITTED, SINCE I BELIEVE THE REEVALUATION OF THE 09 AND NEWER FORD ESCAPES IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN OCCURRING WITH THE EARLIER YEAR FORD ESCAPES, BUT HAS NOT RECEIVED REVIEW. A DEFECTIVE PCM WHICH CAUSES COMPLETE AUTO SHUTDOWN, BURNING OUT THE COILS, ETC. HAS DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET IN CAR COMPLAINT AND BUYING SITES FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE PCM IS DEFECTIVE ON THE ESCAPE AND WHEN IT STOPS FUNCTIONING ALL POWER IS LOST, AND THIS OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING LEAVING ONE WITHOUT BRAKES, POWER STEERING, ETC. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD AND YET FORD REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THE BILL IS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $2500-3000 TO BE SHOULDERED BY THE CUSTOMER. MALFUNCTION, HOWEVER, HAS MORE OMINOUS SEQUELAE THAN MONETARY COST, IN THAT IT MAY COST LIVES FROM CRASHES. FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO REPAIR THE CAUSATION, BUT OBVIOUSLY FORD NEEDS PRESSURE FROM THE PUBLIC AND IN PARTICULAR THE NHTSA ! *TR
THE GAS PEDAL IS "STICKING." IT WON'T DEPRESS. THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. *TR
MY GAS PEDDLE STICKS, IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THE OTHER DAY, IT IS STICKING ON A DAILY BASIS NOW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UP TO A STOP LIGHT SO I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS AND TO THE BRAKE, BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE RED LIGHT IT CHANGED TO GREEN, I WENT TO PRESS ON THE GAS AND THE PEDAL WAS STUCK. IT WOULD NOT GO DOWN NOTHING. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE BUSY HIGHWAY KEPT TRYING TO PRESS IT AND IT WOULDN'T GO DOWN. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINS OF JUST SITTING THERE I TRIED IT AGAIN AND IT WENT DOWN WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE WAS RECALLED IN THE PRIOR YEARS FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE 2004 AND BELOW. HOWEVER MY 2005 IS NOT RECALLED. IT IS NOW AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND I AM WAITING ON A COST ESTIMATE. THE VEHCILE DID TEND TO DO THIS FROM TIME TO TIME ONLY WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE. I TOOK IT IN SEVERAL YEARS AGO TO BE REPAIRD AND WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT, IT WOUDN'T STICK FOR THEM SO NO ISSUE WAS FOUND FOR THEM TO REPAIR. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER CONTROL MODULE, THE CONNECTING COILS, AND SPARK PLUGS WOULD ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
WHILE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 476 CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WOULD REFUSE TO ACCELERATE OVER 10 MPH. LUCKILY IT WAS EARLY ON A SUNDAY MORNING, AND NOT HIGH-TRAFFIC TIME, WE SUCCESSFULLY PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER. OUR MECHANIC HAS BEEN WORKING ON AND RESEARCHING THE ISSUE. TURNS OUT FORD IS AWARE AND HAS ISSUED A "SERVICE BULLETIN" THAT THE COMPUTER IS FAULTY, AND AFFECTS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, SPARK PLUGS, AND COILS. A QUICK SEARCH ON CAR COMPLAINTS TOLD US WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES, AND IT APPEARS TO BE A TIME RATHER THAN MILEAGE FAILURE. WHILE MOST ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE MINIMUM $2,000 FIX, WE ARE THANKFUL IT DID NOT CAUSE HARM TO US OR ANYONE ELSE. HOW MANY 2005 FORD ESCAPES ARE ON THE ROADS THESE DAYS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEIZED AND FAILED TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
SEVERAL TIMES, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK TO THE POINT THAT I COULD STAND ON IT AND IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. IT HAPPENS MOST FREQUENTLY IN COLDER WEATHER BUT THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CAR HAS NO EFFECT. THERE IS NO REAL PATTERN TO WHEN IT WON'T WORK. FORD RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY, HOWEVER AFTER RESEARCHING, THE THROTTLE BODY IS NOT SOMETHING THAT IS NORMALLY REPLACED AT THIS MILEAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD IDLE ROUGHLY AND DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE COIL WAS DEFECTIVE, CAUSING THE COMPUTER TO FAIL. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE COIL WAS REPLACED. A SECOND COIL WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AFTER THE REPAIR. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT ALL OF THE ENGINE COILS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE COILS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
MY CAR'S GAS PEDAL FELT LIKE IT BECAME STUCK, ALMOST FEELING LIKE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN DRIVE. I WAS ON A HILL. THEN SUDDENLY IT SPED OFF FAST WITH A JOLT. OUR MECHANIC SAID IT NEEDS A NEW THROTTLE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON MY CAR'S MAKE & MODEL, IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING CONCERN. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
TOOK ESCAPE TO MECHANIC AFTER LOUD BANGING HEARD. RIGHT WHEEL WELL HAS LARGE HOLE IN IT AND THE SHOCK MOUNT HAS RUSTED THROUGH, SOURCE OF THE BANGING. MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS PROBLEM MOST LIKELY BEGAN PRIOR TO PURCHASE OF CAR. FORD FAILED TO INFORM US OF THIS PROBLEM AFTER MULTI-POINT INSPECTION 5 MONTHS AGO. CAR HAS HAD TWO OWNERS WITHIN SAME FAMILY. FORD QUOTED $2500 REPAIR WILL NOT REIMBURSE AND STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD NOT EVEN BE COVERED BY FACTORY WARRANTY, BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE "BODY" OF THE CAR. *TR
AFTER TOTALING A 2004 ESCAPE, I PURCHASED ANOTHER 2005 ESCAPE BECAUSE I LOVED IT. WELL NOT SO MUCH ANYMORE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2012. ONLY THREE SHORT MONTHS LATER I STARTED HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I AM READING IN ALL COMPLAINTS. I TRIED TO PUSH ON THE GAS AND NOTHING. IT WAS MISFIRING BAD. I THEN TOOK IT TOO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME COILS 1, 3, AND 5 WERE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED CLOSE TOO $2,000 TO REPAIR IT. RECURRENT PROBLEM: THE SUDDEN INABILITY TO ACCELERATE BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL WON'T BUDGE. THE THROTTLE CABLE IS BINDING SOMEWHERE. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THE THROTTLE CABLE SNAPPED ON OUR 2005 FORD ESCAPE, BREAKING OFF BEHIND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSIDE THE CABIN. (WE HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR THIS HARD-TO-PRESS-GAS-PEDAL PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS VERY NEW, AND AT THE TIME THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DISCOVER THE CAUSE AND COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM.) AFTER IT SNAPPED, THE CABLE WAS REPLACED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP AT OUR (CONSIDERABLE) EXPENSE. NOW THE GAS PEDAL IS ONCE AGAIN REFUSING TO BUDGE SEVERAL TIMES ON EACH DRIVE, AND WE HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN FOR INSPECTION. THE SUDDEN INABILITY TO ACCELERATE INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF REAR-END COLLISIONS. IF THE THROTTLE CABLE BINDS AS YOU'RE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY, A HIGH SPEED REAR-END COLLISION COULD OCCUR. REPLACED PART 5M6Z*9E926*CA THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY. PART $376.70 LABOR $262.50 SHOP FEE $2.50 SALES TAX $48.13 TOTAL $ 689.83 VERY EXPENSIVE BUT LUCKY TO NOT HAVE BEEN HURT. *TR
INNER AND OUTER WHEEL HOUSES, AND QUARTER PANELS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE WERE RUSTED/CORRODED TO THE EXTENT THAT THE SHOCK WAS PUSHING THROUGH THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. LOUD BANGING NOISES AND WATER INSIDE THE VEHICLE LED TO INSPECTION BY PROFESSIONALS. VISIBLE HOLES IN THE WHEEL HOUSE AREA WERE DISCOVERED AT THIS TIME. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS REALIZED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WAS JUST AS BADLY RUSTED/CORRODED. ALL PARTS LISTED ABOVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS BOTH SHOCKS, WHICH WERE ALSO DAMAGED DUE TO THEIR DETACHMENT FROM THE RUSTED AREAS. ALL WERE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE, IMMEDIATELY, DUE TO THE DANGER OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE ANY FURTHER, THUS AVOIDING A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE EXPENSES WERE $3402.08. FORD WILL NOT COVER THESE EXPENSES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CAR ONLY HAS 69,000 MILES, AND IS OTHERWISE IN TOP CONDITION. THE DAMAGES SEEM EXCESSIVE AT THIS MILEAGE AND AGE. MY DAUGHTERS 2005 ESCAPE STARTED MAKING A POUNDING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. NOT BEING A MECHANIC I THOUGHT IT WAS A SHOCK ABSORBER. AFTER A CLOSER INSPECTION I SAW THE TOP SHOCK MOUNT WAS RUSTING AWAY FROM THE FRAME. I COULD ACTUALLY MOVE IT SLIGHTLY BY HAND. THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IS A HOLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE STORAGE AREA INSIDE THE VEHICLE. AFTER CHECKING THE DRIVER SIDE UPPER SHOCK MOUNT THERE IS ALSO A HOLE IN THE BODY IN THE REAR STORAGE COMPARTMENT RIGHT NEXT TO THE GASOLINE FILLER NECK TUBE. AFTER STARTING THE CAR, THE GAS PEDAL FELT LIKE IT HAD A BRICK UNDER IT. IT WOULD NOT MOVE. AFTER THE CAR WARMED UP, IT WORKED AGAIN. DURING THE LAST MONTH, THIS HAS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC, FORCING ME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SINCE I COULD NOT ACCELERATE, SEVERAL TIMES IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHILE DRIVING RECENTLY, ON THE HIGHWAY, HOURS AFTER BEGINNING MY TRIP, THE ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK, FOR 2 OR 3 SECONDS, CAUSING ME GREAT CONCERN. NOW, EVERY MORNING I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 15 MINUTES FOR THE PEDAL TO FREE ITSELF IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IT STICKS OFF AND ON AT LEAST TWICE DURING THE WARM UP PERIOD. I DON'T HAVE EXACT DATES, BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE LAST FEW MONTHS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BEEN VERY FRIGHTENING WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC. THIS HAPPENED TO ME A FEW YEARS AGO, A TIME OR TWO, BUT THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. NOW IT IS A DAILY OCCURRENCE. THE COOLER TEMPERATURE SEEMS TO BE A FACTOR. DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT APROX. 55 MPH. THEFT LIGHT CAME ON IN VEHICLE AND VEHICLE QUICKLY DECELERATED. FROM THE RESEARCH THAT I GATHERED, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO FORD. FAULTY SPARK PLUGS WERE INSTALLED IN SOME 2005 ESCAPES. THE SPARK PLUGS EMIT A RADIO FREQUENCY THAT CAUSE THE COILS TO BASICALLY FRY YOUR COMPUTER. FORD HAS RELEASED A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS (TSB 09-2-6) BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AS DECELERATING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. CONTACTED FORD'S CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY SPARK PLUGS AT LEAST CHECKED AT NO CHARGE. THE COST, FOR ONLY CHECKING THE SPARK PLUGS TO SEE IF THEY ARE THE ONES AFFECTED IS $90. I BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. RESEARCHED LEGITIMATE WEBSITES AND FOUND MANY OWNERS WITH SAME PROBLEM THAT HAD FIXED MORE THAN ONCE AT $2500. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT NHTSA ONLY RECALLS FOR SAFETY & EMISSIONS.
