TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE TURN INDICATOR AND HEADLAMP BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL CONTROLLER FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID WITH APPROX. 140,000 MILES. INITIALLY, HAD PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S GAS ENGINE STALLING OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 35 TO 55 MPH. MESSAGE IN DASH SAID TO PULL OVER SAFELY. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN ONE DAY AND EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART AND RUN FOR ONLY A FEW MINUTES. NEXT DAY IT RAN FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES BEFORE OCCURRING ONCE AGAIN. EVENTUALLY THE HYBRID BATTERY HAD NO MORE JUICE AND I HAVE TO BE TOWED. GARAGE, NOT DEALER DX STICKING THROTTLE LINKAGE ASSEMBLY. THEY CLEANED IT, RECHARGED THE HYBRID BATTERY AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. VEHICLE WORKED WELL FOR 6 WEEKS AND THEN PROBLEM RETURNED. ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THAT AFTER INITIALLY STALLING OUT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS WARM, ON 2 OCCASIONS OCCURRED WHEN ENGINE WAS COLD. RETURNED IT TO GARAGE WHERE IT STALLED WHEN COLD ONE OF THOSE TIMES. AFTER THAT IS DIDN'T STALL FOR THEM AGAIN. GARAGE LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW A NUMBER OF POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THE PROBLEM, BUT NO CONCLUSIVE DIAGNOSIS OR FIX. THEY SUGGESTED THAT CHANGING THE THROTTLE LINKAGE ASSEMBLY MIGHT FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WERE NOT CONFIDENT OF THIS. VEHICLE NOT REPAIRED.
MY SON AND I WERE LEAVING A PARKING LOT WHEN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I GOT A WARNING CHIME AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE MESSAGE "SERVICE PWR STEERING" ON THE DASH. LUCKILY (I THOUGHT) I WAS NEAR A AUTO PARTS PLACE SO I SLOWLY DROVE THERE. I PULLED IN, TOOK OUT THE MANUAL AND REALIZED THAT THERE IS NO POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR TO CHECK OR FILL (AS WOULD HAVE BEEN MY QUICK SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM). DRIVING WAS SLOW AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DUE TO INABILITY TO TURN (AT SPEED). THE VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY PURCHASED FOR MY MOM, WHO WAS 75 AT THE TIME. THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING FOR HER WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS.DRIVING WITH MANUAL STEERING IS DIFFICULT AND MUSCLE BUILDING. I HAD TO DRIVE 25 BACK HOME ON CURVY, MOUNTAIN BACK ROADS. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT/INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. I READ THROUGH MANY COMPLAINTS OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS AND REALIZED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I PLAN ON CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING, BUT AM NOT HOLDING MY BREATH FOR RESULTS. DURING A PAST ISSUE I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ONLY ONE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT WAS TRAINED ON THE HYBRID VEHICLES. THAT TIME, THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY! HAHA! THAT ISSUE WAS RESOLVED DUE TO A RECALL. SO MAYBE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FOR POWER STEERING ISSUES WILL FINALLY GET A RECALL TOO. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE.
VEHICLE STALLS WHILE RUNNING AND SHAKES WHILE STOPPED/IDLES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACTED STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO HERTRICH FORD LINCOLN (1427 BAY RD, MILFORD, DE 19963, (302) 725-0031) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,405.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE COOLING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED DAY FORD (LOCATED AT 2124, 3696 WILLIAM PENN HWY, MONROEVILLE, PA 15146, (412) 856-0600) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,621.
"TAKATA RECALL" OUR 2006 FORD ESCAPE HAS ALWAYS REVVED UP WEIRD WHEN PUSHING OR HOLDING THE GAS PEDAL,JERKS AND DRIVES DIFFERNT,RECENTLY THOUGH IT HAS DIED ON US FOUR TIMES IT USED TO HAVE A P122 CODE OR SOME CODE ON IT I WILL HAVE TO FIND RECEIPT WHEN AUTO PLACE FOUND IT,BUT WE WERE ALMOST HIT 2 TIMES FIRST TIMES AND LUCKILY 3RD TIME I WAS PARKED INFRONT OF STORE WITH CAR ON IT DIED THEN TRIED DIEING WHILE TRYING TO GET IT HOME,NOW I WOULD NOT BE SENDING THIS BUT I DO SEE YOU HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM!SO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS?PLEASE LET ME KNOW THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
POWER STEERING FAIL NO DASH CODES E S P FAILED NO POWER ASSIST TO TURN THE STEERING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 62 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, THE BRAKES SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE SKIDDED SIDEWAYS. THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE BARRIERS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND SPUN AROUND TWICE BEFORE STOPPING, FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND WINDOW WERE SMASHED IN AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FRIEND'S BUSINESS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
STOP SAFELY NOW & SERVICE SOON - WRENCH. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED DURING VERY COLD TEMPERATURE. COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL
AS MY SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD DAUGHTER WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY FOR SCHOOL SHE NOTICED THE STEERING WAS HARD TO TURN. SHE TOOK MY CAR TO SCHOOL. I WENT TO TRY AND MOVE THE CAR BACK UP THE DRIVEWAY AND COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL MYSELF. LUCKILY SHE WAS AT HOME AND NOT ON THE ROAD. THERE IS NO ASSISTED STEERING ANYMORE, IT JUST WENT OUT.
DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND THE BACK PASSENGER WINDOW SHATTERED COMPLETELY. NO OTHER CARS WERE AROUND ME AND THE CAR HAD BEEN WARMED UP FOR QUITE A WHILE AND THERE WAS NO WAY SOMEONE COULD HAVE SHOT OR THROWN SOMETHING TO HAVE REACHED ME AS WELL AS GOING 70MPH. ALSO THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF A BULLET OR ROCK.
WELL, MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND UP KEPT SINCE DAY ONE, AND BEFORE THAT MY MOTHER. THE SHIFTING SOLENOIDS ARE STARTING TO GO, WHICH MEANS THE TYRANNY WILL EVENTUALLY GO. IT SEARCHES TO FIND GEARS AND HAS NEVER BEEN BEAT ON. THIS IS QUITE A NUISANCE, CONSTANTLY PULLING OVER AND STARTING IT UP AGAIN JUST TO SHIFT. NEVER HAS BEEN LOW ON FLUIDS EITHER. THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPES IS THE TRANSMISSION AND ALTHOUGH MINE IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL, AS ALL OTHERS ARE, I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN OUTDONE BY FORD [XXX] ME OVER. HONESTLY THE WORST TRANSMISSION ISSUE I'VE SEEN WITH ANY MODEL FROM FORD, OR MUCH LESS CHEVY AND GMCR OR TOYOTA. MY COROLLA LASTED LONGER THAN THIS ONE, OVER 200000 IN FACT! THE FACT OF IT IS, THIS ONE DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT TO 200000. WTF THIS STARTED OUT OF NOWHERE, NO WARNING, NOTHING. TURNED THE VEHICLE ON ONE DAY AND IT JUST DIDN'T WANT TO SHIFT. JW I'M LOOKING AT A 4000 DOLLAR BILL TO FIX IT WHILE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AS WELL. I DIDN'T EVEN PAY OVER 2500 FOR THIS THING SO FOR IT TO BE ACTING THIS WAY WHEN IT'S ALWAYS BEEN TREATED W RESPECT IS NONSENSE. CAR SHUTS OFF WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING, 3 TIMES NOW, ONCE ON INTERSTATE 64. DEALER FIRST SAID HYBRID BATTERY BAD, 2ND OPINION FROM HYBRID BATTERY COMPANY SAID BATTERY GOOD. DEALER SAID, 2ND TIME WITH CAR, NEED A $600 REPAIR THAT WILL RESOLVE. NOW, DEALER SAYS NO, THE BATTERY IS STILL THE ISSUE. THEY STILL CANNOT STATE WHY THE CAR DOES IT, WHAT WILL MAKE THIS CAR SAFE TO DRIVE AND IF THEY TRULY KNOW IT IS THE BATTERY, WHY DID THEY DO THE $600 REPAIR AND TELL US THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ASKED WYNNE FORD IN HAMPTON VA, THE DEALER, FOR A POC AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO BE ABLE TO GET ANSWERS ON HOW TO MAKE/KNOW OUR12 YR OLD CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE, BEEN OVER A MONTH, BUT HAVE RECIEVED NO INFORMATION FROM WYNNE FORD. I GUESS I NEED TO DRIVE TO MICHIGAN TO SEE MR. WILLIAM CLAY FORD JR FOR ANSWERS. I DO NOT KNOW THE EXACT MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE, VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP. ALSO, THE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BUT THE LATEST WAS AROUND OCT 2018. EACH INCIDENT, WE HAD TO GET VEHICLE TOWED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND SUGGESTED THE CONTACT USE HOOD PINS WHEN HE REPLACED THE COVER. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER THAT HE WOULD REPLACE THE COVER WITH A PART FROM THE JUNK YARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT. NO WARNING UNTIL IT WAS OUT. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK DRIVING AND THE POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT COMPLETELY. ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN IT WENT OUT DO TO HOW HARD IT IS TO STEER! IT'S NOT HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. IT'S ALL ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING. THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. SOME MECHANICS COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. INCLUDING PEOPLE THAT HAVE TAKEN IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. SOME PEOPLE HAVE SPENT OVER $1,000 AND THE ISSUE HAS CAME BACK WITHIN A FEW MONTHS. ALSO THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED SOME ACCIDENTS. FORD NEEDS TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT ON ALL CARS!
MY 2006 FORD ESCAPE WAS PURCHASED IN AUGUST OF 2005. FOUR MONTHS LATER, NOVEMBER 2005, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SLOT IN FRONT OF A RESTAURANT, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN IT SURGED AHEAD, WENT OVER A CONCRETE BLOCK, TOOK DOWN TWO POLES, AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BRAKES, BUT NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. PEOPLE SAID I PROBABLY STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, BUT I WAS CONVINCED THAT I DID NOT. I COULD NOT PROVE ANYTHING. JULY 22, 2018, TWELVE YEARS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SLOT IN THE BACK OF MY CHURCH PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. I WENT OVER A CONCRETE BLOCK AND SMASHED INTO THE SANCTUARY WALL. I WAS INJURED AND HAD PROBLEMS FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF. I READ AN ARTICLE ON THE INTERNET FROM THE NHTSA ON TORQUE NEWS THAT THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMERS COUNCIL (NCCC) SAYS THAT THESE VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY SYSTEM THAT COULD FAIL - CAUSING THE ENGINE TO EITHER SURGE OR STALL. THIS IS ONLY UNDER INVESTIGATION NOW, NO RECALL. I AM SURE THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE, BUT I CANNOT PROVE OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY ESCAPE FOR 13 YEARS AND ONLY HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT, BUT I HAD IT TOTALED. IT COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED, BUT I COULD NOT TAKE THE CHANCE OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN. WHAT IF I HAD HURT SOMEONE OR WILL SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY HAVE A RECALL ON THE ESCAPES? IT IS TOO LATE FOR ME TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY 2006 ESCAPE, BUT PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR DIES. I DID PURCHASE ANOTHER ESCAPE, A 2011. I HOPE NOTHING HAPPENS TO THIS ONE. PLEASE HAVE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES.
PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL RUSTED OUT, IMPACTING SHOCK MOUNT ALSO.
I WAS DRIVING AT A NORMAL SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, ON A CITY STREET. AS TRAFFIC SLOWED I BEGAN TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SUDDENLY I GOT SEVERAL ALERTS ON MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (BRAKE, ABS, AND REGEN DISCONNECT). AT THE SAME TIME I LOST ALL OR MOST OF MY BRAKING POWER. I WAS FORCED TO USE THE PARK BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND BARELY AVOIDED A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE.THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. AFTER THE VEHICLE SAT FOR A SHORT TIME, WITH THE ENGINE OFF, THE SYSTEM APPARENTLY RESET ITSELF AND WHEN I RE-STARTED THE ENGINE ALL FUNCTIONS WERE OPERATIONAL ONCE AGAIN, AND ALL THE ALERTS WERE GONE. HOWEVER, THIS PERIOD WAS BRIEF. THINKING THIS MIGHT BE A SYSTEM GLITCH, I CAUTIOUSLY DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE NEXT DAY THIS FAILURE RETURNED AFTER ABOUT 20 MILES OF DRIVING. AT THIS TIME I REALIZED THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS FLAW IN THE HYBRID BRAKING SYSTEM OF THIS MODEL YEAR FORD ESCAPE, AND POSSIBLY OTHER MODEL YEARS. I CONTACTED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND I WAS SHOCKED WHEN THEY INFORMED ME THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR FAILURE. AS A MECHANIC I FIND THIS RIDICULOUS. AFTER A BRIEF SEARCH ONLINE I FOUND MANY HYBRID FORD ESCAPE OWNER'S THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DID. AT THIS POINT I DEEMED MY VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND DECIDED THE BEST THING TO DO WAS TO REPORT THIS FAILURE TO THE NHTSA WITH THE HOPES THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FAILURE BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. MY OPINION IS THE PROBLEM IS IN THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. (HCU). THIS IS A COMPLEX ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL UNIT THAT IS SPECIFIC TO THE FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. FOR THE RECORD MY VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 146,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
HEARD A BANGING NOISE AS I WAS DRIVING THAT SOUNDED FROM TRUNK. NOTHING IN TRUNK, REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL THE SHOCK TOWER HAD FALLEN THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL WHICH APPEARED TO HAVE RUSTED OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHEN THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER IN FENTON, MICHIGAN FOR MAINTENANCE, IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHOCK TOWER FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
ON MY 2006 FORD ESCAPE I ALMOST DIED ON HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE SUBFRAME ON PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FORD BROKE. UPON LOOKING UP INFORMATION I NOTICED THAT THEIR WAS A RECALL FOR FORD ESCAPES 00 _04 BUT THAT ESCAPE IS THE SAME FRAME AND STRUCTURE. I NEVER OWNED A CAR THAT THE FRAME WAS SUPPOSE TO BRAKE LIKE THAT. I HOPE NOBODY EVER GETS HURT BUT THIS.PROBLEM SHOULD BE ADDRESSES BECAUSE THAT CAR IS VERY POPULAR.
RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL TOTALLY RUSTED OUT, NO REPAIR SHOP WILL FIX. LOUD KNOCKING WHEN DRIVING, CAN NOT DRIVE AFRAID WHEEL WILL FALL OFF.

THE VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER COMING FROM A STOP, IT IS NOT TRANSMISSION, IT IS LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING FUEL. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING OR REASON SHUTS OFF ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE RED TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION LIGHT COMES ON WITH A WARNING TO STOP SAFELY NOW ON THE DASHBOARD AND YOU ARE STRANDED. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND WHILE DRIVING BOTH FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREET SPEEDS, SUDDENLY. I AM AFRAID NOT ONLY TO NOT ONLY DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT HAVING ANYONE IN THE CAR WITH ME, ESPECIALLY MAKING A LEFT TURN. IT IS NOT A SAFE VEHICLE. IT HAS LEFT ME STRANDED ON A DARK STREET AROUND 9PM, CUTTING OFF ON THE FREEWAY LEAVING ME NO CHOICE BUT TO COAST OFF THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. AGAIN IT JUST SHUT DOWN AGAIN WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT @ 40 MPH, WHILE DRIVING ON THE SURFACE STREETS, THIS TIME IT WAS EARLY EVENING BUT ONCE AGAIN LEFT ALONE STRANDED UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK COMES. THE DEALER CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND INDICATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS THAT WOULD ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. BUT I CAN SEE THROUGH THE COMPLAINTS THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED.

INTERMITTENT ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WITH ALMOST COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING.
ABS BREAK LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR FAILED TO STOP. WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD IN A SMALL TOWN AND WAS STOPPING TO TURN ON TO A ROAD. THE PROBLEM HAD ALSO HAPPEN WHEN SOMEONE HAS STOPPED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF ME AND I NEEDED TO BREAK SUDDENLY. HAD BREAK FLUID CHANGED AT FORD DEALERSHIP AND DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN YOU NEED TO STOP SUDDENLY AND HIT THE BREAKS HARD, THE PEDAL HARD IT STIFFENS UP AND WILL NOT STOP THE CAR. IF YOU TURN OFF THE CAR AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND TURN IT BACK ON, IT SEEMS TO RESET IT UNTIL YOU HIT THE BREAKS HARD AGAIN.
THE PROBLEM THAT WE ARE HAVING HAS TO DO WITH THE CAR JUST SHUTTING OFF AND LOSING POWER, MAINLY ON THE INTERSTATE. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT SAID SHE NEED A NEW BATTERY. FAST FORWARD TO MAY 6 2018, NOT QUITE 11 MONTHS SINCE THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. SAME THING, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, DASH CLUSTER SHUTS DOWN, NO RADIO OR A/C, THEN THE VEHICLE STARTS LOSING POWER AND SLOWING DOWN UNTIL THERE IS NO POWER AT ALL. EVERYTHING WE HAVE READ POINTS TO A PROBLEM THE ALTERNATOR. EVERY POST WE HAVE READ, AROUND 40, SAYS THE SAME THING. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL ALL FORD ESCAPES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED BECAUSE OF THEIR VEHICLES LOSING POWER AND GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND MY A TRACTOR TRAILER. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPENS. AGAIN, PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ASK THE PUBLIC WHO OWN ESCAPES FOR ANY ISSUES LIKE WE HAVE HAD AND FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE POSTED THE SAME ISSUES. THANK YOU YOUR HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,533.

DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, BEGAN TO HEAR THUMPING SOUND FROM RIGHT REAR. THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH THE TIRE. GOT PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER AND MORE FREQUENT UNTIL I STOPPED AND INSPECTED. FOUND THE RIGHT REAR STRUT TO BE NEARLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE ASSEMBLY.
THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON, AND AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY DO NOT WORK. AFTER BRINGING IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, THE PART ITSELF IS ABOUT $5,000 NOT INCLUDING LABOR. (HYDROCOLIC CONTROL UNIT). THEY DIDNT RECOMMEND FIXING IT BECAUSE OF HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS. I STILL OWE $5,000 SO IM STUCK PAYING FOR A PART THAT IS WORTH MORE THEN THE CAR ITSELF.

OUR 2006 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN MAKING A RATTLING NOISE IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHENEVER WE HIT A BUMP. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A LOOSE PANEL UNTIL I LOOKED UNDER THE REAR-PASSENGER WHEEL WELL AND NOTICED THE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF RUST AND CORROSION AROUND THE SHOCK ABSORBER. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY WIDESPREAD ISSUE THAT FORD HAS DONE LITTLE TO REMEDY. IT HAS SINCE BECOME A CONSISTENT ISSUE ANYTIME WE ARE DRIVING, THERE IS AT LEAST A RATTLE--EVEN ON SMOOTH ROADS. WHILE WE HAVE TRIED TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF DRIVING AS MUCH AS WE CAN, MAKING ONLY NECESSARY TRIPS AND COMPLETELY ELIMINATING ANY EXTRANEOUS USE OF THIS CAR, THE DAMAGE ONLY SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE, AND AT AN ALARMINGLY FAST PACE. THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE AND WE ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO BUY A NEW CAR RIGHT NOW. IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON A SIMILAR ISSUE FOR 2001-2004 MODELS, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ON LATER YEARS? DRIVING ALONG AND SUDDENLY THE CAR GOT LOUD IN THE BACK. SHOCK ABSORBER HAD COME THROUGH THE INTERIOR OF THE AUTOMOBILE. CAR HAS RUST ON BACK "TRUNK" DOOR AND A ON THE EDGE OF THE WHEEL WELL EXTERIOR ON THE SAME SIDE, BUT REMAINING PARTS OF THE CAR HAVE VERY LITTLE OR NO RUST. BUT WHEN YOU LOOK INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL YOU SEE ALL THE RUST AROUND THE SHOCK ABSORBER. GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS ISSUE - OTHERS REPORT SAME ISSUE WITH PASSENGER SIDE REAR AND PEOPLE ARE CONSIDERING SUEING FORD. 2001-2004 ESCAPES HAD A CORROSION RECALL ON THE FRONT SUSPENSION, BUT THERE IS NOTHING FOR YEARS 2005 AND NEWER. THIS IS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT.
THE LOWER CONTROL ARM HAS SEPARATED FROM THE SUBFRAME DUE TO CORROSION. THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT LED TO A RECALL OF 400,000 FORD ESCAPES (MODEL YEARS 2001-2004) JUST 3 YEARS AGO.

I WAS DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN MY CAR BASICALLY SHUT DOWN AND TOLD ME TO "PULL OVER SAFELY". A RED TRIANGLE (WITH THE EXCLAMATION POINT IN THE CENTER) APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE BOARD ALONG WITH THE "PULL OVER SAFELY" MESSAGE AND A CHIMING/ALERT SOUND. THIS WAS ON LABOR DAY, SO THE HIGHWAY WAS INCREDIBLY BUSY AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CROSS OVER LANES AND "PULL OVER SAFELY". ADDITIONALLY, WHEN THIS MESSAGE APPEARS, IT PRETTY MUCH SHUTS DOWN YOUR CAR, NOT ALLOWING YOU TO ACCELERATE AT ALL WHICH ALSO MADE IT MORE DIFFICULT TO GET OVER. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER, TURNED OFF MY CAR AND THEN RESTARTED IT. THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK. NO ADDITIONAL MESSAGES OR PROBLEMS...YET. I PROBABLY HAD TO DRIVE AN ADDITIONAL 30 MILES OR SO HOME WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL MESSAGES SHOWING UP. THIS SERIOUSLY FRUSTRATED ME AS I HAVE YET TO BE ABLE TO FIND MUCH MORE INFORMATION ON THE ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO BE CAUSED FOR A DIFFERENT REASON FOR EACH PERSON. I HONESTLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT GENIUS AT FORD THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO INCORPORATE THAT FEATURE INTO THE VEHICLE.
