I was in a major high speed frontal crash on April 4th. I hydroplaned on 204 and I almost died and none of my airbags deployed. I have several videos from the tow yard showing that they were still intact and didn't deploy, but this firm won'tlet me upload them. This car has never been in a wreck before, and my airbags were never recalled like other Takota ones around that time period. The wreck so serious that none of the first responders knew how I survived or on crawled out of the car to get help. The only savageable things for parts in that entire car were two floorboards and my airbags didn't deploy at all. I have suffered many lacerations and bruising all over my body.
Sunroof on the vehicle just shattered. No impact related cause. Maybe heat.
The rear shock tower has rusted out and broken away from the frame which was conformed at a local body shop. The passenger side went first then the driver side went about a year later. There was no warning that this was happening until it broke while driving which made us lose control of the car. When we took it to a repair shop and said it was 2006 escape they responded what side did the shock tower break on this was before we told them it was a shock tower they said it's always that part on a escape I personally know 2 other people who have had the same problem all different years of escapes.
Both rear shocks, mounts, wheel wells, entire length of body door panels passenger seats are just absolutely rusted beyond repair. I've gone to a couple different shops and each one said that there is nothing they can do to fix the issue. Now the vehicle when ridden in just bounces horribly wearing out bearing springs and tires are being worn out. There is only 110759 miles on it and bought this for my wife/ kids cause I've had 3 other escapes in the past so since I work on the road this is prefect sized for then not to big or too small. I've had so many issues this last year with repairs parts and now worried about safety issues.
Like so many others, I was making a sharp right turn when the vehicle stopped without warning causing cars behind me to slam on their brakes to avoid a chain rear end collision event on a busy intersection. Another driver offered help and got it restarted but the power steering stopped functioning. He pulled it off the road and I then had to drive it home. The light came on after saying "power steering service" and a wrench light. There were no codes to be read and I have been unable to get a straight answer from mechanics. The last said I need the power steering module and the rack and pinion. I finally got him to give me the specific part numbers, both of which are DISCONTINUED. Last week, I told another mechanic the problems and parts I needed and he gave me a total guestimate under $2000, so I decided to go with them and they ordered the parts. When I looked at the estimate, they did not match the part numbers I had been given, and I just found out they didnt include the module because it's discontinued. I cancelled the work. I have no options left that I can afford. THIS PROBLEM IS PERVASIVE IN THESE FORD ESCAPE MODELS AND YEARS, yet they haven't recalled any before 2008. This needs to be addressed because Ive also had the intermittent engine shutdown on the road saying "STOP NOW". Luckily, no accidents or injuries yet, but I wouldn't trust this to travel beyond my area. Shame on Ford!

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently merged into the right lane without warning. As a result, the contact decelerated to approximately 10 MPH, when the CV axle detached from the vehicle. The contact was able to navigate the vehicle off the roadway. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front passenger’s side subframe had rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
The idler pulley on the subject vehicle has failed numerous times, with the mounting bolt shearing at the connection to the timing cover. Upon failure of the pulley the serpentine belt will either fail or become dislodged; when this occurs the steering, alternator, and water pump all stop operating. The vehicle becomes difficult to handle due to the loss of power steering, and is subject to shutting off due to the lack of an alternator and water pump. This particular issue has happened to me on four separate occasions in the last two years; the first time occurred while operating in traffic; the subsequent occasions were noted during startup and were detected before driving. New replacement pulleys will only last approximately 4000-5000 miles before they fail. The power steering pump and air conditioning compressor have been replaced due to concerns that they could be placing extra strain on the serpentine belt, however the issue has occurred even after replacing these components. Internet research notes that this is a common problem of the 2.3L engine in the Escape and other Ford/Mercury models of the same time frame. Nobody has reported a permanent solution; later model vehicles using the same or similar issue came equipped with electric power steering, which likely reduced the load on the pulley and its undersized mounting bolt. The idler pulley on this vehicle has proven to be an Achilles heel and should have been addressed by Ford via a recall and redesigned pulley.
I was driving on the highway, when the car steering started to pull to the left, and an alarm chime was heard from the dash, and a wrench light on the dash came on, as well as a service steering system soon message appeared on the message display. This happened multiple times. I contacted the local Midland Ford Dealer about this issue, as they had replaced the Electronic Rack & Pinion Assembly previously. The same dealer diagnosed the problem as a corroded electrical connection in the harness connector, to the Electronic Rack & Pinion Assembly. I was hoping that they would have covered this issue under a warranty, seeing as they replaced the Rack & Pinion, and that did not fix the original problem. I was charged $624.00 to have the problem diagnosed and the Electronic Rack & Pinion electrical harness connector replaced. The problem has not reoccurred since this repair was done. I am wondering if other 2006 or after Ford Escape vehicles have experienced this same dangerous condition?.
My steering started locking up and now my vehicle will stall and shut completely down while doing 65 miles an hour and now it won't run at all
This 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid, and all first and second generation (2001-2012) Escape models, were designed and built with a significant, known defect in the mating area and materials used for the rear floor pan, rear sub-assembly/rails, and rear inner fender liners/upper shock absorber mounts, all made of pressed steel. The design of the components renders them subject to trapping road debris/salt/contaminants, and the inferior steel used oxidizes quickly, resulting in perforated areas of substantial rust. In our 2006 model, the right rear inner fender liner was completely replaced, and the rear subassembly/rails were welded, in 2013 with new Ford parts. By May, 2018, it had to be repaired and welded again. As of May, 2013, five years almost to the day, it has again rusted and separated. As this hybrid Escape carries a 600 pound battery between the rails in the rear of the vehicle, this is a substantial, dangerous defect affecting potentially millions of cars manufactured over a decade. The current status of the oxidation, corrosion, rot and decay affecting our Ford Escape has rendered it incapable of being repaired per the auto mechanic shop we visited first, followed by the body shop we visited next. Both indicated that the poor design combined with the steel used contributed to the dangerous vehicle it has become.

Well to put it lightly my rear axial the whole rear end is a mess this did not happen from normal were there is not that many miles I am very confident that if I was mot train on how to control a car if it were to go out of control at a high speed this would be a whole different story just thank how many are still on the road this year 2006 escape is a ticking time
About a week after i bought this car and i bought it used but the abs light came on i took it to have it check out and was told the complete suspendtion system front and back was shot and that it all had to be fix i don't have the money for that i am a disabled veteran and i am scraping by as it is
THE REAR SHOCK MOUNT RUSTS OUT NOT LONG AFTER MANUFACTURE AND WE THE CONSUMER ARE LEFT WITH THE PILE OF POOP. FORD IS HIGHLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, AND AS I TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN DAILY I WONDER IF THIS WILL BE THE DAY WE DIE. UPON THE SHOCK MOUNT RUSTING OUT, HOPE YOURE RELIGIOUS AND GOD IS YOUR CO PILOT BECAUSE AS THAT POINT THE SPRING IS WHAT YOU'RE LEFT WITH! ITS SO HORSE [XXX] FORD LEAVES THIS TO THE LITTLE GUY (THE CONSUMERS) TO RECTIFY THEIR PROBLEM DUE TO THEIR INFERIOR MANUFACTURING. I WAS GOING OVER THE I280 BRIDGE IN OREGON OHIO WHEN IT DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO FAIL. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
06 Ford Escape , 4 cylinder, front wheel drive. The gas pedal sticks and won’t accelerate when the vehicle is colder. Today I was on the road in traffic and went to hit the gas and gain some speed as I was still under the speed limit after slowing down behind a car that was turning and the pedal was stuck, couldn’t go! People driving behind and at me and I’m just stuck! It took a good 15-20 pumps of the foot to get the thing unstuck and moving again. It’s happened and was easier to get going a couple other cold mornings seems to stop once car is warmer and has been moving for a while. Looked online and there are numerous complaints about the same problem all the way back to 2009 with this cars make and model for both 05 and 06. Seems Ford never recalled it and some ppl online are even saying they ended up in accidents and stranded.

DASH LIGHTS GO OUT AT A FILL TANK OF GAS AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS WARMED UP AND SOME TIMES. STAY OFF FOR A LONG TIME VEHICLE STAY RUNNING AND GOES DOWN THE ROAD .
KNOCKING, KNOCKING WHEN ACCELERATING, HESITATION.
ABS FAILURE. THE CAR BRAKES MAY AT TIMES LOCK-UP WITHOUT NOTICE. TRANSMISSION FAILURE: THE TRANSMISSION ACTS AS IF IT'S IN NEUTRAL WHEN IN BOTH FORWARD GEAR OR REVERSE. TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD REPAIR BUT THIS ISSUE PERSIST. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO OCCUR FROM A BEGINNING ACCELERATION SUCH AS PUTTING CAR IN REVERSE AND ACCELERATING OR PUTTING CAR IN DRIVE AND ACCELERATING. THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAY BE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ATTEMPT TO PROCEED ONLY TO HAVE THE CAR ACT AS IF IT'S IN NEUTRAL. THIS SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEAR ISSUE SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN FROM A TAKE OFF SPEED.
WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS AND CITY SPEEDS, ABS LIGHT COME ON WITH SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM MESSAGE APPEARS WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING. BRAKING IS TOUGH AND BARELY STOPS EVEN WITH HARD FOOT PRESSURE ON PEDAL. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT INTERMITTENTLY HAPPENS. ONCE YOU LET THE CAR SIT FOR AWHILE (SINCE YOU ARE SCARED OF DRIVING IT), THE BRAKING SYSTEM RESETS AND PROBLEM IS NOT SEEN FOR MONTHS...UNTIL IT OCCURS AGAIN. INQUIRIES TO FORD ABOUT PROBLEM ESTIMATE THE COST OF REPLACING CYLINDER, HCU, AND BLEEDING BRAKES FAR EXCEEDS THE VALUE OF VEHICLE. ANNOYING AS THIS BRAKE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A WEAKNESS OF THIS CAR'S BRAKING SYSTEM AS FAR BACK AS 2005! WHY DOES FORD NOT RECALL AND FIX A KNOWN PROBLEM IN A TIMELY MANNER? MAY HAVE TO SCRAP AN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT WORKING VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND UNSAFE TO FELLOW DRIVERS SINCE IT MAY NOT RELIABLY STOP.
WHEN DRIVING,THE STEERING, WILL SWAY TO EITHER THE RIGHT OR LEFT.ONLY SLIGHTLY.I BOUGHT NEW TIRES ALIGNMENT. NEW TIE RODS.AND .STILL ISSUES
OCCASIONALLY WHEN APPLYING SMOOTH PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT BECOMES VERY FIRM AND LOOSES BRAKING POWER. IF THE PEDAL IS RELEASED AND REAPPLIED THEN THE BRAKES WORK AGAIN (FOR NOW). THIS SOMETIMES CAUSES THE "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" WARNING LIGHT TO APPEAR. THIS LIGHT MAY OR MAY NOT REMAIN ON AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR A WHILE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OTHERS, AND SHOULD BE HANDLED BY FORD AS A RECALL AS A PROPERLY WORKING BRAKING SYSTEM IS VITAL TO THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE ON THE ROAD. DATE INDICATED IS OF THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE (ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP).
AFTER ABOUT 2 YEARS, 2008, CAR WAS DRAGGING TOOK IT TO FORD, WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, IT WAS SOME TIME LATER, 2016 /2017 THAT THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, HAD IT REPLACED, LESS THAN 1 YEAR IT WENT OUT AGAIN, WHICH FORD REPLACED, WHEN THE SERVICE PERSON ASKED WHO DID IT, HE JUST ROLLED HIS EYES. 3 YEARS AND 2 MONTHS LATER, MORE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, NOW THEYARE TELING IT THE PTU UNIT WHICH IS CAUSING OIL TO LEAK THROUGH THE ENGINE AND NOW THEY WANT 5,000.00 TO REPLACE IT. A TRANSMISSION SHOP WAS QUESTION AND THEY SAID THAT YEAR HAD LOTS OF ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS AND WHEN FORD REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION THE PTRU UNIT WAS PUT IN WRONG, THAT THEY WERE CONSTANTLY FIXING IT, ALSO THAT THE HILLTOP FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS THE WORSE ANYONE COULD GO TO, ALSO WHEN I TOOK MY CARE TO FORD, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON, AND WHEN I PICKED IT UP AND TOLD WHAT WAS WRONG, THEY HAD ON IT THE I WANTED TO FIND OUT WHY MY ENGINE WAS, I DID NOT, IT WAS NOT ON, I WAS TOLD THAT HE HAD TO PUT THAT OR THE CHARGES WOULD BE MORE, I WAS ALREADY BEING CHANGED OVER $200 WHEN I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT THE CHARGE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT WAS FIRM. THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RON DUPRATT FORD LOCATED AT 1320 NORTH FIRST ST, DIXON, CA 95620, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT FLICKERS ON AND OFF AND THEN IT WILL STAY ON AND A LOUD INDICATION NOISE WILL TURN ON AND OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH WHEN THEY ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE DUE TO NEEDING TO COME TO AN ABRUPT STOP, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO IMMEDIATELY BRAKE. INSTEAD, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT TOWARDS THE CONCRETE BARRIER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE CONTACT THEN ATTEMPTED TO COUNTER STEER THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE STOPPED JUST BEFORE HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL THAT RELATED TO THEIR FAILURE WAS NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V165000 (STRUCTURE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 139,000. *LN *JB*JB
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was sticking while being depressed. The contact had to continually depress the pedal to release the accelerator pedal. The failure occurred mostly during cold temperatures. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
WHEN YOU FIRST START DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE STEERING IS VERY TIGHT WHEN TURNING LIKE IT'S IN 4WD BUT AFTER YOU DRIVE IT SOME IT LOOSENS UP AND DRIVES FINE. ONLY WHEN IT FIRST STARTS. THERE IS ISSUES WITH THE STEERING BEING TIGHT
HAD A WINTER SPELL THAT BROUGHT ABOUT 6 INCHES OF SNOW. WHEN I LEFT FOR WORK I GOT STUCK AT A STOP SIGN AND FOUND MYSELF UNABLE TO GO FORWARD OR BACKWARDS. I THEREFORE EMPLOYED STANDARD WINTER DRIVING TACTICS SLOWLY CHANGING BACK AND FORTH FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IN A ROCKING MOTION TO GET THE VEHICLE UNSTUCK. AFTER FREEING THE VEHICLE I THEN PROCEEDED TO DRIVE TOWARDS MY WORK BUT THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STAY IN GEAR. NOW THE VEHICLE WON'T GO INTO A MOVING GEAR EXCEPT FOR EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT SLIPS BACK OUT OF GEAR AND WON'T MOVE. CAN ALSO HEAR A LOUD GRINDING / CLACKING NOISE COMING FROM UP FRONT AROUND THE TRANSMISSION.
PURCHASED A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID IN OCT. OF 2018. TODAY (NOV 2019) THE BRAKE SYSTEM DECIDED TO GO OUT (A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FEH) WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON A CURVY ROAD WHILE MY TWO KIDS WERE IN THE CAR. WE TRIED SLOWING DOWN BEFORE ENTERING THE CURVE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. LUCKILY WE ARE FINE BUT THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT. I'VE ONLY PUT 10K MILES ON THE CAR AND NOW FORD OF OCALA IS SAYING EVEN THOUGH IT'S A KNOW ISSUE THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WE SPOKE WITH DONNA WHO WAS UNDERSTANDING BUT STILL GAVE US NO SOLUTION. SHE FORWARDED THE ISSUE TO THE SALES MANAGER AND WE ARE WAITING ON HIS CALL.THEY BASICALLY STOLE 7 GRAND FROM OUR FAMILY. WE'LL BE PURSUING THIS LEGALLY UNTIL THE ISSUE GETS RESOLVED.
SUDDEN REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY WHILE DRIVING. CHECK ABS LIGHT COMES ON. ONE HAS TO PUSH COMPLETELY DOWN ON BRAKES TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP. WAIT FOR 5-10 MINUTES, SYSTEM RESETS AND YOU CAN CONTINUE TO DRIVE UNTIL AT SOME DAY AND TIME THE SAME CONDITIONS REOCCUR. RESEARCH ON ISSUE INDICATES THE HCU MAYBE FAILING BUT PRICE TO REPLACE EXCEEDS THE WORTH OF THE VEHICLE. USE OF VEHICLE IS NOW LIMITED DUE TO UNPREDICTABLE ABILITY TO STOP CAR WHILE IN MOTION.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY BRAKES EVEN AFTER ALL REPAIRS AND SPENDING ABOUT $1000 DOLLARS MY CAR BRAKE DASHBOARD LIGHT IS STILL ON AND VERY LESS BRAKES ARE APPLIED .I HAVE TO PRESS BRAKES WITH LOTS OF THRUST BUT EVEN AFTER THAT VEHICLE MOVES LITTLE AHEAD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, A BANGING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR WHEEL WELL WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AROUND THE SHOCK MOUNT. ALSO, A RUSTED HOLE EXPOSING THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WAS PRESENT. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
PARKING / EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED. CABLE ROUTED FROM HAND LEVER TO REAR BRAKES GOES THROUGH A BRACKET MOUNTED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BODY. BRACKET SEPARATED FROM UNDER-BODY OF VEHICLE RENDERING HAND BRAKE INOPERABLE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A SLOPE WITH REGULAR BRAKES APPLIED. PARKING BRAKE WAS BEING APPLIED TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OF VEHICLE ON AN INCLINE OFF OFF TRANSMISSION PARK LOCK.
RIGHT REAR SHOCK MOUNT BROKE LOOSE AND STARTED TO ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.
MY 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID IS STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THIS SEEMS TO BE DUE TO A FAULT IN THE EXTERNAL HYBRID INVERTER COOLING PUMP. THIS HAS OCCURRED 5+ TIMES,USUALLY DURING 70 DEGREE (F) + TEMPS. I'VE CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP & FORD MOTOR CORP RAN THE VIN,WITH NO RECALL. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
THIS THE SECOND FORD FOCUS HYBRID 2006 WE HAVE HAD A BRAKE PEDAL ISSUE WITH. ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE MASTER AND HCU WITH THE 1ST ONE 2YRS AGO AND HAVE NOT HAD THE ISSUE AGAIN. HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH THE SAME MODEL DIFFERENT CAR AND WE RE VISIT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HARD TO STOP OR WONT STOP DURING NORMAL DRIVING AND ONLY PERIODIC. WAY TOO MUCH MONEY 7000.00 WITH 83K MILES.
THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND IDLE.AFTER WARMED UP.THE RED SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES ON THE DASH. IT HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
THE HYBRID ELECTRONICS SYSTEM OVERHEATED, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT ON AND THE ALERT SYSTEM SAID TO "STOP CAR SLOWLY" AND THEN "CHECK EMISSIONS SYSTEM". THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND LOST ALMOST ALL POWER. AFTER TURNING IT ON AGAIN, THE CAR HAD NO POWER AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WAS LIKE THIS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES (THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE BUT THE CAR SEEMED NORMAL AFTER THE INITIAL STALL). THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY MECHANIC'S GARAGE AND THEY TOLD US THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE MECS PUMP WHICH WAS CAUSING THE HYBRID SYSTEM TO OVERHEAT. THIS SEEMS REMARKABLY SIMILAR TO RECALL #14S19 AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY CAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER IT. I ALSO CHATTED WITH A REP FROM FORD WHO COULDN'T TELL ME WHY MY CAR WASN'T COVERED. WHILE I UNDERSTAND THAT RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ERROR ON FORD'S END. THE REP TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS BUILT ON JULY 29, 2005 AND THE RECALL INCLUDES VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM 2005 TO JUNE 20, 2008. SHE SAID SHE COULDN'T FIND AN EXACT DATE FOR THE START OF THE "BUILD DATE" RANGE, BUT SHE THOUGHT IT INCLUDED ALL OF 2005. SO I SAID "SHOULDN'T MINE BE COVERED?" SIMILARLY, THE 14S19 RECALL NOTICE STATES: "MODEL YEAR 2005-2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLES MANUFACTURED OCTOBER 13, 2003, TO JUNE 20, 2008". I BOUGHT THE CAR IN LATE 2015, AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL DATE WAS ISSUED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING RECALL MATTERS WITH THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE CAR ONLY HAD 60,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS LIGHTLY USED SO I WONDER IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS EVEN AWARE OF THE MECS ISSUES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. I AM CURRENTLY FACING $1,300 IN REPAIR COSTS AND THIS LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE RECALL PROBLEMS MENTIONED IN 14S19. I HOPE SOMEONE AT NHTSA CAN HELP BECAUSE I THINK FORD SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE DAMAGES. THANKS AGAIN. PLEASE CONTACT ME AT [XXX] IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WAS HEADING WEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON ALAMEDA CROSSING WAGSWORTH BOULEVARD WHICH THE STATE OF COLORADO SAYS THAT THOSE ARE BOTH HIGHWAYS THEY'RE MORE LIKE CITY STREETS BUT HIGHWAYS WHAT IS DOING A REPAVING PROJECT I PERSONALLY DID NOT SEE ANY NOTIFICATION OF WORK GOING ON AS THEY HAD STRIP THE ASPHALT FROM WADSWORTH AND WAS REPAVING LEFT A 6IN HIGH DROP INTO THE PAVEMENT AND BACK UP TO THE OLD PAVEMENT. WHAT IS A MASSIVE JOLT THAT SURE BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES OFF HAS NO BRAKES TO STOP HOW DO YOU USE HANDBRAKE. GOT AHOLD OF CDOT AND WAS TOLD MARTIN MARIETTA WAS THE COMPANY IN CHARGE OF THE REPAVING PROJECT WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AS THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS WARNING SIGNS POSTED.
AS I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND RED LIGHT, MY BRAKES SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I LITERALLY HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKE AND IT FINALLY STOPPED MOVING. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME AT LESS THAN 10 MPH AND HAD TO LET OFF THE GAS IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN TO ATTEMPT TO USE THE BRAKES AND CAR WOULD SHAKE WHEN BRAKE WAS APPLIED. TOOK TO MECHANIC WHO CHECKED THE CODE AND IT WAS THE TRAVEL SENSOR.
