POWER STEERING MODULE SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE WARNING INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND EVENTUALLY TURNED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DOOR AUTO LOCK MALFUNCTIONED AND BURNED OUT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
OPEN DOOR WARNINGS ARE CONSTANT WHEN DOORS ARE NOT AJAR AND CAR IS IN MOTION. DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THIS CONSTANT ANNOYANCE. THIS HAPPENS WITHIN MINUTES OF THE CAR BEING STARTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE FRONT WHEELS FAILED TO TURN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,820.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NORTH BAY FORD LOCATED AT 1999 SOQUEL AVE, SANTA CRUZ, CA 95062, PHONE NUMBER: (831) 457-5858 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR SENSOR FAILED BUT THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DOOR AJAR ACTIVATES CONSTANTLY SETTING OFF THE CAR ALARM AND KILLING THE CAR BATTERY. THIS HAPPENS WHILE CAR IS SITTING STATIONARY, AND OR MOVING (WHILE DRIVING) THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE DAY THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN 4-2007, AND IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN, AND IS HAPPENING UP TO THE DAY THIS WAS SUBMITTED (8-25-2016. THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND FORD...YET NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. YOU SAY IT ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IF YOU GO TO FORD OR A DEALER TO HAVE THE ALARM AND DOOR SWITCH DISCONNECTED THEY SAY THEY CANT DUE TO A SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 35-45 MPH, THERE WAS AN AUDIBLE WARNING SOUND WHICH NOTIFIED THE DRIVER OF AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND A FAULT CODE COULD NOT BE PRODUCED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT HAVE BOTH COME ON. I HAVE HALF THE BRAKING POWER IN MY VEHICLE.
NO WARNING FOR HYBRID BATTERY MALFUNCTION. ON 07082016 THE FORD DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE HYBRID BATTERY IN MY FORD ESCAPE HAS A MALFUNCTION CODE P0A81 AND THE BATTERY PACK COOLING FAN WAS NOT WORKING. THERE ARE NO WARNING MESSAGES OR ICON LIGHTS TO INFORM ME (THE OWNER) THAT THE BATTERY IS MALFUNCTIONING. DOCUMENTATION: #1 AUTOZONE MYZONE HEALTH REPORT POWERED BY INNOVA PERFORM ON 07052016 AND #2 JOHNSON BROTHERS FORD-LINCOLN INVOICE 192231, 07072016. INCIDENT - 07032016, THE WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED "SERVICE THE EMISSION" AND THE ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. THE FORD ESCAPE WAS STILL DRIVE-ABLE AND OTHERWISE WAS OPERATING NORMAL WITH THE MESSAGE AND ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE HYBRID BATTERY WAS WORKING AS EXPECTED. 07052016, THE FORD ESCAPE WAS TAKEN TO AUTOZONE TO GET A READING FOR THE MESSAGE WHICH WAS P0128. FORD DEALERSHIP ESTIMATED $600 TO REPAIR THE TIMER. 07062016, AT ABOUT 7:00 A.M. I TOOK THE ESCAPE IN FOR THE TIMER REPAIR. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT THEY WILL VERIFY/VALIDATE THE ISSUE AND WILL CONTACT ME BEFORE REPAIRS ARE PERFORMED. 07072016, AT ABOUT 4 P.M. FORD DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVE CONTACTED ME TO PICK UP THE ESCAPE AND THAT THEY HAD VERIFIED/VALIDATED THAT IT WAS THE TIMER AND HAS REPAIRED THE TIMER. AT ABOUT 5:40 P.M. I PAID $554.30 FOR THE TIMER REPAIR AND PICKED UP MY VEHICLE. BECAUSE IT WAS CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP CLOSING TIME NO ONE REVIEWED THE CHARGES WITH ME. WHILE DRIVING HOME THE VEHICLE DIDN'T PICK UP SPEED AND THE GAS PEDAL WAS STIFF. THE HYBRID BATTERY DID NOT KICK IN AS EXPECTED. 07082016: AT ABOUT 7:15 A.M. I RETURNED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP COMPLAINING THAT THE ESCAPE HAD NO POWER. ALSO, NOW THE HYBRID BATTERY WASN'T WORKING. AT ABOUT 9:00 A.M. FORD DEALERSHIP RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME. ALSO, THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS WAITING FOR FORD CORPORATE TO RESPOND ON THE HYBRID NOT WORKING ISSUE.
THE POWER TAKEOFF UNIT, ALSO KNOWN AS THE POWER TAKEOFF ASSEMBLY, AND OR THE TRANSFER CASE HAS GONE BAD . FORD SAYS THAT THE PART COST $3700.. WHILE TALKING WITH SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS IN MY AREA, THEY STATE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TVEHICLE. IF IT IS TRUE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ,WHY HASN'T IT BEEN RECALLED RECALLED. IT SOUNDS LIKE A BUNCH OF MARBLES ARE ROLLING AROUND IN MY TRANSMISSION WHILE COASTING.

THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V526000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE'S HYBRID COOLANT PUMP AND FAN FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. ...UPDATED 07/13/16 *BF
THE CAR WAS STATIONARY ON MAY 7TH 2016 ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND FLASHED AFTER STARTING VEHICLE. MY DAUGHTER TOOK TO FORD DEALER IN MARYVILLE TN THEY SAID NEEDS COMPLETE BRAKING SYSTEM REPLACED AT A COST OF $4,349.08. CONSIDERING I HAD THE FORD DEALER IN MADISON, OH CHECK VEHICLE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM (SAFETY CHECK) IN JAN. 2016 THEY REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS & BRAKE SHOES AND DEEMED EVERYTHING ELSE IN PERFECT CONDITION. ANYWAY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER IN CAREY NC THEY SAID NEEDS COMPLETE BRAKING SYSTEM REPLACED AT A COST OF $4,800. AFTER RESEARCHING I HAVE FOUND (HUNDREDS) OF PEOPLE IN MY SITUATION DESCRIBING EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUES! SHAME ON FORD FOR NOT ALLOWING A RECALL! I CANT AFFORD THE PRICEY REPAIRS AND CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER CAR! SO SORRY I REPLACED A HONDA CIVIC WITH 239,000 MILES WITH THIS HUNK OF JUNK ESCAPE HYBRID!!!! THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAN HAVE A TERRIBLE OUTCOME.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE OVERDRIVE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
POWER STEERING FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING NEARLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR 2007 FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES AND THERE IS A RECALL - BUT FOR SOME REASON IT ONLY COVERS 2008-2011 EVEN THOUGH THE MESSAGE BOARDS SHOW DOZENS OF 2007S WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IN FACT, MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE SAME KANSAS CITY PLANT DURING THE COVERED PERIOD (AFTER AUGUST 18, 2006), YET IT IS INEXPLICABLY NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. AFTER HAVING THE POWER STEERING MODULE REPLACED WITH A USED ONE. THE STEERING FAILED AGAIN AFTER BARELY A DAY. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE FORD 14S05 RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL LOUD CLUNKING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SHOCKS FAILED AND PUSHED THROUGH CORRODED METAL IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
SHOCK TOWER COMPLETELY RUSTED AND HITTING WHEEL MAKING CLUNKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO SHOP AND COST WILL BE UPWARDS FROM $1200
THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED THIS MORNING. WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY SO IT WASN'T DUE TO ANY OUTSIDE DISTURBANCE.
WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE WITHOUT ANY ISSUES AS I WAS EXITING INTERSTATE AND STATIONARY AT RED LIGHT VEHICLE BEGAIN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE MAKING A GRINDING NOSE AND VEHICLE STALLED. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND IN MOTION WAS FINE AS I BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP TO MAKE LEFT TURN ON TO MY ROAD VEHICLE AGAIN BEGAIN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE AND ALMOST STALLED AGAIN. PROBLEM AS BEEN BE DIAGNOSED AS BAD TRANSMISSION.
GAS PEDAL IS STUCK
WENT TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES TO NOT HIT AN ANIMAL AND YELLOW ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATES,RED BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES, AND "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE APPEARED AND THE CAR JUST SLID. ONCE DRIVING YOUR ABS SYSTEM IS DEACTIVATED CAUSING THE CAR TO JUST SLIDE WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES. AN OBDI CODE READER INDICATES C1478, C1479, AND C1480. FORD RECOMMENDS CHANGING HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT COSTING OVER 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. WHEN UNLOCKING THE CAR OR TURNING THE KEY IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION YOU HEAR THE BRAKES TRYING TO BUILD UP PRESSURE AND THEN YOU HEAR A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND THAT IS WHEN ALL THE MESSAGES APPEAR ON THE DASH. THIS SEEMS TO BE A REOCCURRING ISSUE WITH FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS MADE FROM 2005 THROUGH 2008 ACCORDING TO MANY CUSTOMERS. NO RECALL YET.
STARTED WITH OCCASIONAL CLUNKING WHEN IN REVERSE. SLOWLY DEVELOPED A SORT OF THUMPING LIKE WHEN DRIVING. LIKE FROM A BAD TIRE OR WHEEL BEARING. AS MY WIFE HAD A MEDICAL PROBLEM, I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE CHECKING OUT. I ROTATED AND INSPECTED THE TIRES AND BREAKS. I MANUALLY ROTATED EACH WHEEL BY HAND TO CHECK FOR SIGNS OF A WHEEL BEARING PROBLEM. NOTHING FOUND. THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS THE NOISE BECAME WORSE. I TOOK IT TO A REPUTABLE TRANSMISSION SHOP. WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT, THEY WOULD NOT EVEN TAKE IT OFF THEIR LOT. THEIR COMMENT TO ME IS THAT THEY HOPE I HAD NOT BEEN DRIVING IT LONG LIKE THIS. THEY WERE SURE THAT SOMETHING IN THE TRANS AXLE WAS ABOUT TO LOCK UP. I AM SURE THEY WERE RIGHT. BY THIS TIME IT WAS QUITE BAD. THEY FOUND THAT MY TRANSFER CASE HAD FAILED AT 40,245 MILES. A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH AWD ESCAPES. I NOTICE THAT 2 WERE REPORTED TO THE NHTSA, ONE RESULTING IN INJURY. IF THIS UNIT LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING, LOSS OF LIFE IS POSSIBLE. ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF ESCAPES ARE AWD AND HAVE TRANSFER CASES. IT APPEARS THAT A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF EARLY AWD ESCAPES ARE SUFFERING FROM THIS PROBLEM. ANY DRIVE TRAIN ISSUE IN ANY VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE LOCKING UP WHILE UNDER WAY SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. FORD HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT WHEN I DROVE THE CAR TO THE SHOP THAT MORNING IT SOUNDED SO BAD THAT I WAS A LITTLE SCARED TO DRIVE IT FASTER THAN AROUND 30 MPH. IT WOULD HAVE COMPLETELY FAILED WITHIN DAYS. I FEEL I WAS LUCKY TO GET IT REPAIRED WHEN I DID. IT COST ME $4,353.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE. NOW I AM NOT SURE I WANT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE. NOT SURE I SHOULD TRUST THEIR CVT EITHER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS JAMMED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE BLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE BLED PROPERLY AND TUBING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED AGAIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUAFACTUER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 78,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
THE GAS PEDAL WOULD STICK INTERMITTENTLY, AND MORE PRESSURE NEEDED TO BE APPLIED TO THE PEDAL IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. AT ONE POINT THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY STUCK, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR AT ALL ON THE HIGHWAY, FORCING ME TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN IT OFF TO BE TOWED. A MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM THIS ISSUE IS CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTION IN THE THROTTLE BODY. FORD PREVIOUSLY RECALLED THROTTLE BODY'S IN ESCAPES FROM 2009-2012, BUT MY CAR IS 2007 AND DOES NOT APPLY. HOWEVER, BECAUSE IT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME MALFUNCTION, AND HAS SERIOUS SAFETY IMPLICATION, I BELIEVE THE 2007 FORD ESCAPE MODEL SHOULD BE ADDED TO FORDS CURRENT CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03.

THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGN AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 68 MPH, THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SEIZED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
BROKEN TONE RING RIGHT FRONT
2007 FORD ESCAPE THROTTLE STICKS INTERMITTENTLY. DRIVING AND SUDDENLY THE PETAL WILL STICK AND NOT RESPOND. PUSH DOWN ON GAS PETAL AND WILL NOT MOVE OR RESPOND. FLUTTER THE PETAL AND IN WILL RETURN TO OPERATIONAL FORM.PETAL STICKS AND NOT ALLOW YOU TO GIVE ENGINE AND GAS. THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PETAL THEN TRY TO REAPPLY THE GAS TO ACCELERATE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE I BOUGHT IT BUT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT AS THE VEHICLE AGES. I HAVE TOLD DEALER REPS.ABOUT THIS ONGOING ISSUE AND EACH TIME I'M TOLD IT HAS NO RECALLS AND I WILL NEED TO PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS MYSELF.
A B S BRAKES QUIT WORKING AFTER A HARD STOP IN A PARKING LOT TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE, AFTER THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAD THE ESCAPE FOR4 MONTHS AND IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH THE MANUFACTOR WITH A RESULT OF REPLACING THEMASTER CYLINDER, TRAVEL SENSORAND NUMEROUS CONTAINERS OF BRAKE FLUID THEY WERE STILL UNABLE TO GET ANY BRAKES. AT THIS POINT THE MANUFACTOR DECIDED IT NEEDED A A B S MODULE, TOTAL PARTS ONLY WERE TOTALLING OVER $6000.00. IT IS A 2007 YEAR MODEL WITH ONLY 115000 MILES RAN AND LOOK GREAT. AFTER RESERCH ON LINE I SAW I WAS NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. I THINK FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V2840000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
POWER STEERING QUIT WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT. DISPLAY SHOWED A YELLOW WRENCH AND "SERVICE PWR STEERING" MESSAGE APPEARED. DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME THEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MANUAL STEERING. VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN VEHICLE ON MANUAL STEERING. DEALERSHIP DETECTED A BAD STEERING MODULE AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN RESOLVED.
I WAS TOLD BY LOCAL DEALER THE THE DRIVERS DOOR AND PASSENGER REAR DOOR HAD FAULTY DOOR LOCK/ DOOR SENOR ISSUES. I NOTICED ON LINE OTHER YEAR ESCAPE HAD SAME ISSUES BUT SEE NO RECALL.
WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, HAD TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT WAS GREEN MY CAR DID NOT GO. WAS ABLE TO GET IT TOWED AND FOUND OUT THE THE TRANSMISSION WAS OUT. ONLY HAD 80,000 MILES ON IT. DOES FORD KNOW ABOUT THE TRANSMISSIONS?
PURCHASED VEHICLE WITH ABS LIGHT ON, BRAKE LIGHT ON, SERVICE BRAKES SOON MESSAGE, REGEN DISABLED MESSAGE. BRAKE PEDAL GOES NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND NO BRAKING ASSISTANCE IS GIVEN. EXTREME PRESSURE IS REQUIRED TO STOP. ALL BRAKING COMPONENTS APPEAR TO BE SOUND BY VISUAL INSPECTION. ABS FAILURE SHOULD NOT CAUSE ALL BRAKING ASSISTANCE TO SHUT DOWN. FAILSAFE MODE IS NOT SAFE. INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS RAMPANT ON THESE VEHICLES.
THE PASSENGER REAR RIGHT BRAKE/TAIL BULB WENT OUT, WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE THE BULB I FOUND THAT THE SOCKET WAS BURNED, VERY DARK BROWN SPLOTCHY AREAS, AND HAD A DISTINCTIVE ODOR. I CHECKED THE LEFT, DRIVER SIDE AND FOUND THAT THE SOCKET ON THAT BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT WAS ALSO TURNING BROWN AT THE PIN SITE. IT CONCERNS ME THAT I AM FINDING THIS ISSUE TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM AROUND THE INTERNET.
APPLYING BRAKES COMING INTO INTERSECTION AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO APPLY AT THE WHEELS HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COMPLETE THE MANEUVER THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT COLLIDING WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AND RETURN TO JOB SITE.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DOOR AJAR WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD EVEN THOUGH ALL DOORS WERE LOCKED AND SECURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE FORD ESCAPE,4 CYLINDER FRONT DRIVERS DOOR LATCH AND PASSENGER REAR DOOR LATCH FAULTY CAUSING DOOR LOCK ALARM TO SOUND THE HORN VARIOUS TIMES OF THE DAY WITH VEHICLE PARKED AND LOCKED BY KEY. HAS OCCURRED IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS (JUNE,JULY AUG, SEPT 2015) SOME DAYS MULTIPLE ALARMS THEN A DRY SPELL THEN AT 10 AM AND THEN AT 3 PM SAME DAY OR DIFFERENT DAY. ALL WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE AT 35 MPH. THE FAILURE WAS SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS STILL NON FUNCTIONAL AND IS DUE TO BE EVALUATED NEXT WEEK. I AM GLAD THAT THE INCIDENT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING INSTEAD OF MY WIFE OR CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY MAY HAVE HAD A HARDER TIME CONTROLING THE CAR SINCE THEY HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN CARS WITH POWER STEERING
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 30 MPH THE AMBER ABS AND RED BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. POWER ASSIST FOR BRAKING FAILED. UNLIKE VACUUM ASSIST IN A NON-HYBRID VEHICLE (WHEN IN THE CASE OF FAILURE YOU CAN STILL STILL STOP FAIRLY QUICKLY WITH EXTREME FOOT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL) WITH THE ESCAPE HYBRID, NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, YOU ARE LIMITED TO ABOUT 10% OF NORMAL BRAKING FORCE. DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODE WAS C1477. FORD DOCUMENTED FIX IS TO TRY BLEEDING THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND SEE IF THAT WORKS. IF NOT REPLACE ABS MODULE AND HCU. DEALER SAID BLEEDING SYSTEM WOULD BE $900. IF THAT DID NOT WORK REPLACE ABS MODULE/HCU FOR AN ADDITIONAL $4500. SO, TRY BLEEDING THE BRAKES, RIDE AROUND FOR A MONTH OR TWO TO SEE IF PROBLEM RETURNS. IF PROBLEM RETURNS REPLACE ABS MODULE/HCU AND HOPE THAT FIXES IT. THERE MAY BE 2 OR 3 OR 4 VISITS TO THE SHOP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED. THATS AN EXTRA 1-3 TIMES FOR A FATAL ACCIDENT TO OCCUR. A NOTE TO NHTSA INVESTIGATORS....JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE NO DOCUMENTED DEATHS FROM THESE FAILURES (AS FAR AS I CAN TELL) IT DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS NO REASON FOR A RECALL. A SUDDEN FAILURE OF BRAKES WITH NO WARNING ON DOZENS (IF NOT HUNDREDS) OF THESE ESCAPE HYBRID VEHICLES IS CAUSE FOR ALARM.
I HAD BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITH OUT WARNING. I PULLER OVER USING FORCE INTO A STRIP MALL. TURNED THE CAR OFF, SAT THERE FOR 10 MIN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND A SERVICE POWER STEERING READ ACROSS THE DASH. CALLED FORD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.
I WAS DRIVING HOME IN ROUTE 94 VERNON NJ THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHT WENT ON, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HIGH BUT NO BRAKES, THE REGENERATIVE BRAKES WERE DISABLED, THE ENGINE TURN OFF AND I FOUND MYSELF DRIVING ONLY WITH THE ELECTRICAL MOTOR AND NO BRAKES AFTER I PULL OVER TURN OFF THE CAR. SINCE THIS MOMENT MY CAR IS RUNNING ONLY FOR PERIODS OFF 10 TO 15 MINUTES BEFORE IT TURN OFF, STILL NO BRAKES AT ALL.
SENSOR LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON NEAR THE GAS CAP
THREE LIGHTS TURNED ON SIMULTANEOUSLY, BRAKE, ABS, AND THE "WRENCH" ICON INDICATING A MAJOR FAILURE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I EXPERIENCED AN 80% LOSS OF BRAKING POWER NARROWLY AVOIDING A COLLISION WITH CARS STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. LIGHTS REMAINED ON AND BRAKES WERE SEVERELY COMPROMISED WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY. TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR ALL SYSTEMS WERE OPERATIONAL AND ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF. DROVE THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR EVALUATION. DEALER DIAGNOSED AND TOLD ME THEY RAN A COMPUTER TEST AND NO REPORTS. I ASKED THEM IF THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR, THEY SAID NO. A WEEK LATTER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND I ALMOST T-BONED A CAR. A VERY LOUD SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THE SYSTEM "RESET". I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I CAN NOT GET A ANY FORD DEALER TO TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON.

THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT TO INITIATE BACK INTO FUEL MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VENT DOOR THAT COOLS THE MAIN BATTERY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE DETAILS OF THE REPAIRS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO STOP AND CLEAN THE WINDOWS AND WHEN HE PUT IT BACK INTO GEAR IT WOULD NOT GO, ENGINE JUST REVVED. MY EX DROVE IT BACK TO MY HOUSE IN 1ST GEAR AND MY SON TRIED TAKING IT TO SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY. NO POWER. STALLED TWICE ON HIM IN A MILE. EX TOWED IT BACK TO MY HOUSE. FROM EVERYTHING I'VE READ AND HEARD, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE FORD ESCAPES. I HAD TO BORROW $3400 FROM MY BOSS TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FIXED SO MY KIDS HAVE A CAR TO GET TO SCHOOL. I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN ANY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAIN FORD. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS, YET THEY DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR COVER THE COST OF REPAIRING THEM. *TR
PICKED UP MY CAR FROM DEALERSHIP, (RECALLED) ELECTRONIC COOLANT PUMP REPLACED. HAVING DEALT WITH THE "STALL-LIKE CONDITION" DESCRIBED IN THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 14S19 / NHTSA RECALL 14V-526, I WAS EXPECTING THE NEWLY INSTALLED WATER PUMP TO AFFECT MY CAR'S RECENT PERFORMANCE. FIFTEEN MINUTES FROM THE DEALERSHIP, GOING 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, THE PULL OVER SAFELY NOW MESSAGE FLASHED. AND THEN MY CAR STALLED.
