2008 FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSION IS BAD ALREADY LOST 2ND GEAR WAS A RECALL BUT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT RECALL BECAUSE OF EXPIRATION WARRANTY I'VE ONLY HAD MY VEHICLE 1 YEAR AND 10 MONTHS I STILL OWE FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REOPEN THE RECALL MY FORD ESCAPE IS AT A DEALER SHIP IN G-VILLE OHIO I AM ON A FIXED INCOME DISABILITY MY MOM IS ALSO DISABLED I HAVE A DAUGHTER WITH BRAIN CANCER I HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO TAKE HER APPOINTMENTS I REALLY NEED MY VEHICLE AND I THINK FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD REOPEN THE RECALL AND REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION AND PAY FOR ME TO GET A RENTAL CAR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN, THE VEHICLE LOST STEERING ABILITY. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE AND A HALF YEARS AND THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN SIX MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON AROUND APPROXIMATELY 3PM (10/21/2018) I WAS DRIVING AND MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING, AND I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE IT. IN THE CAR WITH ME WAS MY FRIEND, AND MYSELF. ON THE FIRST INSTANCE THIS DAY, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT, AND WITHOUT WARNING MY CAR BEEPED TWICE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WENT COMPLETELY STIFF. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO JUST PARK WHERE I WAS, TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE GONE. ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, AS I WAS IN THE INTERSECTION COMING OUT OF THAT PARKING LOT, MY STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD, AND NO BEEPING OCCURRED. I COULD NOT MOVE THE WHEEL, AND I WAS TRAVELING IN THE DIRECTION OF OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE TURNING, AND I WAS VERY CLOSE TO HITTING THEM. AGAIN, THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SPOT STRAIGHT AHEAD TO PARK AND I ENDED UP LEAVING MY CAR THERE OVERNIGHT. MY FRIEND AND I ALMOST WRECKED IN A BUSY 4-WAY INTERSECTION DUE TO A MANUFACTURER MISTAKE, AS I HAVE RECOGNIZED ONLINE THROUGH MULTITUDES OF OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR SIMILAR SITUATIONS. THIS IS DANGEROUS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, AS THE VEHICLE (A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID), GAVE ME NO WARNING WHATSOEVER BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED UP.
STEERING SYSTEM FAULT APPEARS ON DASH...MAKING THE WHEEL LOCK UP IN DRIVE OR TURNING.WHEN I WAS PARKING STEERING WAS EXTREMELY HARD PLEASE RECALL THIS MATTER I SEEN IN 2006 A RECALL ON GOOGLE ON THE DATE OF 11/1/2018... FORD WILL SAY THERE ARE NO SUCH THING ITS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS WELL AS A DEFECT THAT CAME OUT OF BO WHERE
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND DISPLAY READ "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED." THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER EFFECTIVELY BRAKING AND ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION.
THE ABS BRAKES HAVE FAILED. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER AND WAS QUOTED OVER $5,000 TO REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. I HAVE READ MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RECALL ON A VEHICLE WITH A PROBLEM AS SERIOUS AS THIS?
THE AUTOMATIC STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY CITY STREET 30 MPH LAST NIGHT. AS SHE SLOWED AND TRIED TO CORRECT, SHE WAS UNABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION AS A RESULT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED TO A SECOND DAUGHTER. AFTER INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE FOLLOWING THE MOST RECENT ISS, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT FORD WAS NEGLIGENT DURING THE RECALL REPAIR. FORD RECALLED THIS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT ONLY UPDATED SOFTWARE RATHER THAN FIXED THE ISSUE. THIS WAS A DESIGN FAILURE BY FORD PUTTING PEOPLE, INCLUDING MY DAUGHTERS AT RISK. PEOPLE HAVE INDICATED THAT THIS REPAIR WILL COST BETWEEN $3,500 AND $5,000. AS THIS WAS IDENTIFIED AS A PREVIOUS POTENTIAL FAILURE DUE TO THE FORD ENGINEERING DEFICIENCY, HOW CAN THEY BE EXONERATED FROM RESPONSIBILITY.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, GETTING READY TO STOP AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE BRAKES BARELY BRAKED, AND I HAD TO PUSH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP. IT'S LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME NOW. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MECHANIC SAID IT'S THE ABS SYSTEM AND THAT HE SEES THAT PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF FORDS.
AFTER SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS, I STARTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. AS I STARTED TO, THE POWER STEERING IN MY SUV STOPPED WORKING, A DASHBOARD LIGHT TURNED ON (DIDN'T SEE WHICH ONE), AND AN AUDIBLE WARNING ALERT TURNED ON. I HAD TROUBLE TURNING THE VEHICLE, THINKING I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD, BUT EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL A FEW SECONDS AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN. IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER DRIVING THE CAR HOME (A FEW MILES). I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE THIS HAPPENED.
I PAID FOR MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE AND WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED IN JULY 2018. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR FOR SERVICE ROUTINELY WITH FORD DEALERSHIP AND JUST RECEIVED SERVICE THE WEEK PRIOR. I EXPLAINED I WAS GOING FOR A TRIP TO AZ (400 MILE ROUNDTRIP) AND NEEDED A FULL CHECK AND SERVICE. EVERYTHING PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS. ON MY RETURN TRIP UP A HILL, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER AND LIMPED HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND CODES WERE NOT COMING UP FOR THE WRENCH LIGHT AND AFTER KEEPING IT FOR ADDITIONAL DAY, THE 2ND AND 4TH GEARS ARE OUT AND IT WILL TAKE A WEEK TO FIX. NO WARRANTY COVERAGE AND I JUST HIT THE 90,000 MILE MARK. UNBELIEVABLE THAT A TRANSMISSION GOES OUT AT A 90,000 MILE. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED IN THE VEHICLE AFTER PAYING SO MUCH FOR IT AND MAINTAINING ALL SERVICES. NO DISCOUNTS WERE OFFERED.
MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE, AND AFTER COMPLETING REPAIRS MY MECHANIC TOOK THE CAR OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND MY MECHANIC CHECKED AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR THIS MODEL YEAR FOR THIS ISSUE BUT MY VIN DOES NOT FALL WITHIN THE PARAMETERS FOR THE RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANDERSON'S ROCK RIVER FORD (815-229-0510, LOCATED AT 224 N ALPINE RD, ROCKFORD, IL 61107) WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED A DISCOUNT TOWARD THE REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHOCK ABSORBER WAS RUSTED AND CAUSED THE CONNECTOR TO FRACTURE, WHICH CREATED A HOLE IN THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS COULD ALLOW CARBON MONOXIDE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING IN COLD WEATHER. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED STURMAN & LARKIN FORD, INC. AT 412-892-2300 (LOCATED AT 900 REGIS AVE, WEST MIFFLIN, PA 152360), BUT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
REAR PASSENGER STRUT MOUNT RUSTED THRU. STRUT ONLY FASTENED BY LOWER PORTION. CAN SEE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE IN HOLE FROM OUTSIDE WHEEL WELL.
THE BREAKS CONTINUE TO FAIL. HAS ALL NEW PADS, ROTORS AND THE MASTER CYLENDER REPLACED. WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE BREAKS VIBRATE AND THEN NEED TO PUSH THE PETAL TO THE FLOOR TO BE ABLE TO SLOWLY SLOW DOWN. I THEN NEED TO PUMP VISIOUSLY UP TO 5 TIMES TO GET THE BREAKS TO TEMPORARILY WORK AGAIN. WAS THEN TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THE ABS IS THE ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE WITH THE YR OF MY VEHICLE TO FIND THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH MANY 08 FORD ESCAPES AND HAVE YET TO FIND A RECAL FOR THIS DEADY MALFUNCTION. MY CAR ONLY HAS 135000 MILES AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO FIX WITH A RECALL ASAP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, AN ONCOMING VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE SIDE AIR BAGS IN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE DEPLOYED, BUT THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS, INCLUDING THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAGS, DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT LATER REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND TOWED TO A TOW YARD. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,820.
CONTACTED BARBER FORD AND DROPPED OFF VEHICLE FOR POWER STEERING RECALL NHTSA 14V284000 FORD NUMBER 14S05 AT 8 AM ON 9/11/18 WAS TOLD WILL BE DONE SAME DAY GOT CALL 11 AM WAS TOLD PART NOT THERE NEEDS TO BE ORDERED WILL BE DONE TOMORROW 9/12/18. NEVER GOT A CALL FROM BARBER FORD. CALLED AT 11 AM TODAY 9/12 WAS TOLD SHOULD BE DONE BY END OF DAY. NEVER GOT ANOTHER CALL. CALLED AFTER 4 AND GET VOICEMAIL SAYING NO ONE AVAILABLE LEAVE MESSAGE. NEVER GOT A CALLBACK.
THE REAR INNER FENDER RUSTED OUT AND THE REAR STRUT BROKE THROUGH ITS MOUNTING BRACKET WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE IS NOW UNSTABLE AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO KEEP RELATIVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND MAKE IT HOME SAFELY. UPON DOING A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH VEHICLES SOLD IN THE BOTHER UNITED STATES AND CANADA AS STATED ON NUMEROUS WEBSITES AND FORUMS. UNFORTUNATELY THIS IS MY PRIMARY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I TRAVEL 120-125 MILES PER DAY ROUND TRIP TO WORK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE HAD I NOT HEARD THE NOISE AND BRACES MYSELF PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE BECOMING UNSTABLE. MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THAT A FAMILY COULD BE RIDING IN A THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE AND NOT HAVE ADEQUATE REACTION AND BECOME A VEHICLE CASUALTY STATISTIC.
ABS LIGHT ON, REGEN BRAKES DISABLED, 5,000.00 TO FIX IT, BRAKES WORK POORLY AND ENGINE REVS TOO HIGH
WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY DISPLAY THE "PARKING BRAKE" WARNING-LIGHT, ABS WARNING-LIGHT, AND A MESSAGE STATING THAT "REGENERATIVE BRAKING HAS BEEN DISABLED". AT WHICH POINT THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL NO LONGER SLOW THE CAR DOWN UNLESS DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. BRAKING APPEARS TO BE ENTIRELY MANUAL -- THERE IS NO SUPPORT FROM THE REGENERATION OR HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. THIS CAN OCCUR SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, IN CONDITIONS AS VARIED AS HIGHWAY DRIVING (AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 65 MPH) OR IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC.
THE TONE RING ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE CRACKED, CAUSING TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS LIGHT TO GO ON, AND CAUSED INSTABILITY AND TRACTION ISSUES AT LOW SPEEDS.
BRAKE FAILURE. DURING NORMAL DRIVING I WAS COMING TO AN INTERSECTION TO STOP. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS WAS ALMOST NON EXISTENT. THE ABS LIGHT AND A MESSAGE INDICATING 'REGEN SYSTEM DISABLED' CAME ON. FORD HAS DESIGNED A BRAKING SYSTEM THAT CAN SIMPLY "DISABLE" ITSELF AND LEAVE A PERSON WITHOUT EFFECTIVE STOPPING POWER. I HAD TO VEER OFF THE ROADWAY TO AVOID HITTING CARS IN FRONT OF ME, RESULTING IN MINOR DAMAGE TO MY FRONT BUMPER AND UNDERCARRIAGE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.

SUPERVISIOR NAME MARIA (888)457-8442 SERVICE DEPT CLAIM TO HAVENT HEARD OF THE PROBLEM.ASLO I WAS THERE FOR A COOLANT PUMP RECALL AND ALL THEY DID WAS CHECK MY ANTIFREEZE AND NEVER CHANGE COOLANT PUMP.WASTE OF MY TIME.I CALLED THE FORD COMPANY PHONE NUMBER, DOES NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. FORD IS PLAYING PHONE TAG. FORD HYBRID BRAKES ARE THE WORST I EVER EXPERIENCE IN A VEHICLE.REGENERATING BRAKING MANUFACTURE DEFECT ! THEY DON"T WANT TO RECALLED BECAUSE ANTI LOCK BRAKES COST MONEY.FORD MOTOR COMPANY PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX RECALL ANTI LOCK BRAKES FOR 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE LOCAL DEALER (BROADWAY FORD, 1010 SOUTH MILITARY AVE, GREEN BAY, WI) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE OWNER WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000(STEERING), BUT THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES RANDOMLY WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE BEEN ON A FREEWAY, BRIDGE, REGULAR STREET, TRAFFIC. A RED WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON WITH "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND THE CAR WILL QUICKLY SLOW DOWN. IT WILL GO REALLY SLOW REGARDLESS OF STEPPING ON THE GAS. ONCE I PULL OVER I HAVE T STOP THE CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK THEN TURN IT BACK ON. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM ON THE FREEWAY OR ON THE BRIDGE (I WORK IN SAN FRANCISCO).
IN 2014 I TOOK MY ESCAPE INTO FORD FOR THE RECALL. WEEKS LATER, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE...THEN BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. FORD SAID I'D HAVE TO PAY $1600 TO GET THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR REPLACED, AND THEIR PART ON THE RECALL WAS DONE WITH HOOKING IT UP TO A COMPUTER. BUT I COULDN'T TURN IT. I DRIVE A 3 YEAR OLD, AND I AM NOT ABLE TO PAY TO FIX OR BUY SOMETHING NEW. I BOUGHT A FORD BC I THOUGHT THEY CARED ABOUT SAFETY. AND STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I PUT LIVES IN DANGER BC I NEED TO WORK. AND I HAVE TO DRIVE THERE. HELP!!!!
I WAS DRIVING WHEN I NOTICED A LOUD BUMPING NOISE... MY BACK PASSENGER WHEEL WELL IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY, WHICH HAS AFFECTED MY SHOCK MOUNTING BRACKET. EVERY LITTLE BUMP CAUSES IT TO SHAKE . THE BRACKET ACTUALLY WENT THROUGH THE PLASTIC AND THERE IS A HOLE INSIDE THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. I SEE SO MANY IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS AND ITS VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I KNOW THAT THE FORD ESCAPE 2001- 2004 WERE RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AND ITS DISCONCERTING THAT THEY ARE IGNORING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE 2005-2008 ESCAPE. HOW MANY MORE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR THEM TO AT LEAST INVESTIGATE THIS UNSAFE, REOCCURRING ISSUE?! HOPEFULLY , SOMETHING WILL BE DONE SOON BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED.
WHILE DRIVING THE ABS AND CHECK BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED. THE CAR STILL SLOWED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THE ABS CONTROL ASSEMBLY WAS FOUND TO BE INOPERABLE - THIS UNIT IS BOTH A HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT ON THE ESCAPE HYBRID. THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM IS CONTROLLED BY THE UNIT AND IT ALSO FAILED. THE FIX WAS OVER $6000 FROM FORD. THIS CAR HAD 221541 MILES ON IT, SO THIS IN EFFECT TOTALED THE CAR, WHICH WAS OTHERWISE IN DECENT SHAPE AND STILL RAN VERY WELL. CHECKING ON THE WEB - WE WERE LUCKY AS SEVERAL OTHER REPORTS OF THIS UNIT FAILING HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH MUCH WORSE RESULTS TO THE OWNERS WHILE DRIVING.

WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A BUSY STREET....THE BACK DRIVER-SIDE LIFT GATE HINGE CRACKED IN HALF AND MY GLASS WINDOW WAS HANGING BY A THREAD. SUPER DANGEROUS TO OTHER VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS. LUCKILY IT DID NOT FALL TO THE ROAD AND SHATTER, OR FLY OFF THE VEHICLE HITTING SOMEONE, OR THING, OR CAR. THIS IS NOT A MATTER OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR/ CORROSION. ABS & BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ON; CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM & REGEN BRAKES DISABLED MESSAGE CENTER. BRAKING IS HARDER, UNASSISTED. NO ABS, TIRES CAN LOCK UP ON BRAKING. FORD DEALER WANTS $4900 FOR THE HCU PART + LABOR. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS ONLINE OF THIS ISSUE; AND THAT IT CAN LEAVE A VEHICLE WITH NO BRAKES; A SAFETY HAZZARD.
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED YELLOW, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND THE RED BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED SIMULTANEOUSLY. A MESSAGE ON THE DASH SAID "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED". THE NORMAL BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED TO WORK. THE MANUAL (FAIL SAFE) BRAKING SYSTEM WAS INADEQUATE TO STOP PROPERLY. I HAD TO PUT THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AS HARD AS POSSIBLE AND THE CAR STILL DID NOT BRAKE PROPERLY. AFTER MUCH ROLLING, THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, BUT HIT A POLE IN THE PROCESS CAUSING A CRACK IN THE FRONT BUMPER. DUE TO THE LONG STOPPING PROCESS, THE POLE WAS UNAVOIDABLE. IT WAS THE POLE, THE DITCH, OR ANOTHER CAR, SO I HAD TO CHOOSE TO BUMP INTO THE POLE FOR THE LEAST AMOUNT OF DAMAGE AND TO BE SURE NOT TO HURT ANYONE ELSE. TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE FOR ME AND MY YOUNG GRANDCHILDREN!
THE VEHICLE'S HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HAS FAILED. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE ABS DOES NOT FUNCTION. MY KEY FOB UNLOCKED THE CAR, AS USUAL, PUT CHILD IN. GOT IN DRIVERS SIDE. PUT KEY IN IGNITION. ALL LOCKS LOCKED! CAR DID NOT START. I HIT KEY FOB AND THE PAD TO UNLOCK SEVERAL TIMES... UNLOCKED MY DOOR... I ASSUMED ALL DOORS. WOULD NOT OPEN DOOR WHERE DAUGHTER WAS IN CAR SEAT IN BACK (BACK PASSENGER SIDE). KEY FOB OR DOOR UNLOCK WOULD NOT WORK TO UNLOCK IT. KEY FOB DID NOT WORK AT ALL AFTER THAT FIRST TIME AND DID NOT UNLOCK HER SIDE. I GOT HER OUT ON DRIVER'S SIDE BACKSEAT. WE HAVE VIDEO SURVEILLENCE SO INCIDENT SHOULD BE ON THERE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. END OF 100' DRIVEWAY. NO NEIGHBORS IN SIGHT. TERRIFYING TO THINK IF THE KEY FOB HADNT OPENED MY DOOR THAT LAST AND APPARENTLY ONE AND ONLY TIME, IF ID BE STUCK IN HOT CAR WITH DAUGHTER IN BACK SEAT.

AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS GENERATION FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD CLOSE CALLS WITH SOME GETTING INTO ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE FAULTY ABS ISSUE.

LOST MY POWER STEERING AS I WAS DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ALMOST ROLLED AND CRASHED THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND FORD I S SIMPLY DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. PLEASE DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS BADLY HURT OR KILLED. THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL 14S05 ON JAN. 1ST 2018. THEY SIMPLY DID A COMPUTER UPDATE AND THIS DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. SOMEONE NEEDS TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE.
I WAS IN A BUSY SHOPPING PLAZA AND CAME UP TO A 4 WAY STOP. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES, THE CAR DIDN'T STOP! A MESSAGE READING "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED" CAME UP ON THE SCREEN, FOLLOWED BY "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM". BOTH THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON ON THE DASH. I TRIED TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN AS SOMETIMES WHEN IT HAS AN ELECTRICAL HICCUP THAT WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE SAME MESSAGE REAPPEARED AND I DROVE STRAIGHT TO A LOCAL GARAGE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DEFINITIVELY DETERMINE THE ISSUE AND REFERRED ME TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. A FEW DAYS LATER, FORD ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WHICH WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. ALL OF THE PIECES WITHIN THE BRAKE SYSTEM ARE IN TACT, EVERYTHING THAT CAN BE INSPECTED DURING ROUTINE TUNE UPS LOOKS FINE, BUT SUDDENLY WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE BRAIN OF THE CAR CAN'T REMEMBER HOW TO MAKE IT STOP.
WENT TO ACCELERATE AND GAS PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND STAYED THERE. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME. DEALER SAID IT WAS A BROKEN THROTTLE CABLE AND WANTS TO CHARGE ME $300.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED. I GOT IN TO START THE VEHICLE. UPON REVERSING IT IMMEDIATELY LOCKED THE STEERING WHEEL, SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AND I SAW THE LETTERS 'SAFELY STOP' APPEAR AS WELL AS THE RED TRIANGLE (PER AUTO MANUAL THE RED TRIANGLE IS DESCRIBED AS 'MASTER VEHICLE ELECTRICAL HAZARD WARNING LAMP' AND I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT AT ALL. I TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON SEVERAL TIMES. OFTEN IT WOULDN'T TURN ON AT ALL, BUT WHEN IT DID THEN THE RED TRIANGLE WOULD APPEAR AGAIN & CAR WOULDN'T BUDGE.
THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE GEAR SHIFTER. IT FEELS LIKE THE PARKING BRAKE IS ON AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PROCEED
ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY FORD 2008 THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP AND HAS BECOME DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HAVING AN ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING FAILURE, WHICH IS SIMILAR TO HAVING NO POWER STEERING FLUID. AS A RESULT, I CAN'T DRIVE ON HIGHWAYS AND IT'S INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR PERIOD. I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND IT'S A $1500.00 FIX TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN; WHICH IS WHAT'S NEEDED, WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR. WHEN RESEARCHING THIS ON YOUTUBE, I FOUND IT TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COMES UP OFTEN. FORD IS AWARE OF IT AND IT SEEMS WILL ONLY INCLUDE VIN'S THEY WANT TO. I THINK MINE AND ALL 2008 SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL, THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT THEY NEW ABOUT AND REFUSE TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT CAUSE TO MUCH? WHILE DRIVING, OR SOMETIMES WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, THE MESSAGE READS "BRAKE REGEN FAIL". THE BRAKES GET MUSHY AND BECOME MANUAL BRAKES. THE MECHANIC SAID I NEED A HYDRAULIC ABS BRAKE SYSTEM OVERHAUL. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN WHEN IT IS VERY HOT OUTSIDE.
