MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID WOULD NOT STOP WITH BOTH FEET PUSHING TO THE FLOOR. CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM AND REGEN BRAKE DISABLED AS MY CAR HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE FOR BOTH ME AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I'M ALSO A BIKER AND I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE ON A BIKE OR A PEDESTRIAN. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND THE FACT THAT I WAS UNAWARE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT JUST HAPPENED AND WHY. I HAVE FOUR FORDS AND NOW I'M CONCERNED TO DRIVE THEM.

WHILE THE CONTACT'S GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO ENGAGE AS THE BRAKE AND ABS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ONLY AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUMPED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GRIECO FORD (1651 NEW STATE HWY, RAYNHAM, MA 02767, 1- 888-680-8818) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS PUMP WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 111,449.

A SHUT DOWN WARNING LIGHT PULL OVER TO SAFETY NOW INDICATOR TURNS ON . THANK FULLY ON A STREET IN MOTION ,MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. BUT IS SCARY YOU NEVER KNOW IS WHY OR WHEN IT WILL CLICK ON AND IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH KIDS IN THE CAR . TURN CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES
VEHICLE HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION. THERE IS DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE DUE TO A FAULTY IGNITION CYLINDER REQUIRING THE OPERATOR TO HAVE TO PUSH THE KEY IN, OFTEN WITH GREAT PRESSURE, THEN TWIST THE KEY TO GET THE CAR TO START. EVENTUALLY THE IGNITION MECHANISM WILL FAIL COMPLETELY REQUIRING THE ENTIRE IGNITION HOUSING WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN TO BE REPLACED AND AT GREAT EXPENSE. I WAS LEFT STRANDED WHEN THE CAR FAILED TO START AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. REPAIRS COST OVER $500. THE PROBLEM NEVER AFFECTED ME DURING NORMAL DRIVING, ONLY WHEN THE CAR NEEDED TO BE STARTED. A SIMPLE SEARCH REVEALED MANY OTHER ESCAPE OWNERS REPORT THE EXACT SAME ISSUE SO IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THIS IS A RANDOM PROBLEM OR THE RESULT OF NORMAL WEAR. INDEED, THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT THAT WAS NEVER ADDRESSED BY FORD. HOWEVER, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE SINCE, AS HAPPENED TO ME, THE CAR CAN AND WILL LEAVE THE DRIVER STRANDED WHICH, IT SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING, IS NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE BUT ALSO A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND THE PROBLEM REMEDIED BY FORD. SINCE I ALREADY PAID FOR THE REPAIR I THINK IT ONLY FAIR THAT FORD REIMBURSE ME THE COSTS.
MY CAR'S ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE COME WITH MESSAGES READING "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" AND "REGEN BRAKE DISABLED." AT TIMES THE BRAKES WILL APPEEAR TO FAIL AND I HAVE TO SLAM THEM VERY HARD TO STOP.
ABS LIGHTS CAME ON WENT AND GOT IT CHECKED AND ITS THE BREAK SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE OVER $5,000 AND THAT EVEN IF THEY FIXED IT I DONT GET A WARRANTY FOR THE FIXED SYSTEM AND THAT IT COULD REOCCUR. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR A LOT. CAN WE PLEASE GET THIS ISSUE CHECKED INTO. $5,000 IS A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX A CAR AND IT NOT BE 100 PERCENT FIXED
TRANSMISSION WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON INTERNET SAID THE BAND IN TRANSMISSION WAS AT FAULT. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE LIGHT CAME THE CAR WAS SHIFTING OUT OF FIRST INTO SECOND. IT HAS BEEN SHIFTING HARD FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. I HAD THE UNIT WORKED ON LAST YEAR TO REPLACE A BAND THAT HAS BROKEN. IT WORKED FINE FOR AWHILE THEN STARTED THIS HARD SHIFTING. I SPENT OVER 700$ TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE CAR HAS 180000 MILES ON IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CROWN FORD INC (420 MERRICK RD, LYNBROOK, NY 11563, 516-599-0600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING AT 50+ MPH ON AN POPULATED ROAD. HAD TO STOP USING EMERGENCY BRAKE AND DRIVING ON THE DIVIDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA HOTLINE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,370.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE, WHEN THE VEHICAL JUST STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE RPM WOULD CLIMB, BUT THE VEHICAL WOULD NOT MOVE. THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICAL OFF THE HIGHWAY. I NOTICED IF I TURNED THE VEHICAL OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON, IT WOULD MOVE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO 3RD GEAR AFTER THAT IT WOULD JUST REV UP AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I LIMPED IT THE 5 MILES TO HOME AND PARKED IT. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICAL. SOMETHING REALLY SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS. IT IS SAD THAT SO MANY OF THESE HAVE LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND ARE HAVING MAJOR POWER TRAIN ISSUES. MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DOAN FORD, INC. (LOCATED AT 66870 BELMONT MORRISTOWN RD, BELMONT, OH 43718, (740) 782-1965) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
POWER STEERING NOT WORKING.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON A TOWN ROAD AND WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN THE CAR LOST POWER. ON THE DASHBOARD CAME A MESSAGE "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND AN RED ALERT TRIANGLE CAME ON AS WELL. I HAD TO LET THE CAR ROLL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. THE CAR TURNED ON OKAY, BUT SOON AFTER A YELLOW ICON OF AN ENGINE CAME UP ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS EVENT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS LITERALLY DRIVING THE CAR HOME FROM A CHECK UP AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. IT'S DANGEROUS TO HAVE THE CAR'S POWER DIE ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
VEHICLE LOST ALL BRAKES WAS TOLD IT IS A ISSUE WITH A VALVE IN THE HYBRID BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH COST OVER 5 GRAND TO FIX THROUGH FORD.

OK AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY I FELT MY STEERING WHEEL TIGHING UP TO POINT I HAVE TO A MAKE SUDDEN STOP BECAUSE OF THE LOSS STEERING.LOOK IT THE MESSAGE CENTER LOST MESSAGE SHOWING PASSAGES AIR BAG OFF. SHOWING CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM.SHOWING BATTERY LIGHT ON LOST THING GOING MESSAGE CENTER.
-VEHICLE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) LIGHT CAME ON AND DASH SAID 'CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM' AND 'REGEN BRAKES DISABLED'. THANK GOODNESS I WAS PARKED WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURRED AND WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE AWAY, I WAS ABLE TO TEST THE BRAKING ABILITY AND QUICKLY TURNED THE CAR BACK OFF. -GRINDING NOISE WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. SOUND CAME FROM FRONT OF CAR AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF -WAS ABLE TO START CAR PROPERLY AFTER 4+ ATTEMPTS AND WAITING 15-20 MINUTES -THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE REOCCURRED AT ANY TIME (EXTREMELY DANGEROUS) -CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER (FORD) TO EXPLAIN THE ISSUE AND HOW (AT THE TIME) THERE WERE 80+ SIMILAR ISSUES REPORTED TO NHTSA. -COST QUOTES RANGED FROM $4,800-$7,000 TO REPLACE HCU (HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT), MASTER CYLINDER, ABS MODULE REPLACEMENT -THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM (DTC C1478) AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED -WHEN CONTACTED, FORD DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND SEEMED TO NOT CARE ABOUT THE ISSUE -- I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD AGAIN -FORD WAS AWARE OF ISSUE (SSM 45870) AND CHOSE TO DO NOTHING ("SOME 2005-2008 ESCAPE/MARINER HYBRID VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITH THE FOLLOWING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) C1478, C1479, C1480 OR C1481. REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL (WSM), SECTION 206-09 INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION PROCEDURE UNDER DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING. IF NO FAULTS ARE IDENTIFIED WHILE PERFORMING THE INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION PROCEDURE AND BEFORE REPLACING THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) VERIFY THE CALIPER FLEX HOSES ARE THOROUGHLY INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE, INTERNAL RESTRICTIONS OR SWELLING. DAMAGED CALIPER FLEX HOSES CAN GENERATE THESE PRESSURE CONTROL PLAUSIBILITY DTCS.")
CAME OUT FROM COFFEE SHOP TO MY PARKED CAR AND STARTED CAR AND STEERING WAS EXTREMELY STIFF. HARD TO STEER LIKE POWER STEERING NOT WORKING. DIFFICULT TO STEER AT LOW SPEEDS. DROVE TO NEARBY MECHANIC WITH HAZARDS ON.
WE BOUGHT OUR CAR USED IN 2008/2009. WE TOOK OUR CAR INTO A DEALERSHIP WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF EXHAUST FUMES. WE OFTEN ARE SMELLING EXHAUST BUT SINCE THE DEALERSHIP DISMISSED OUR PROBLEM WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH IT ALL THESE YEARS AS 'NORMAL'. I RECENTLY WAS HEARING OF POLICE OFFICERS WITH FORD VEHICLES PASSING OUT OR HAVING DAMAGE BECAUSE OF THE FUMES IN THEIR FORD SUV. I TOOK MY DAUGHTER TO THE DOCTOR A FEW YEARS AGO AFTER BEING ON A TRIP IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE SHE WAS THROWING UP ON THE WAY THERE AND BACK. THE DOCTORS GAVE HER BACK X-RAYS AND SAID THAT IT WAS JUST MOTION SICKNESS.. SHE OFTEN COMPLAINS OF BEING SICK IN THE CAR. I ALSO DON'T LIKE THE FUMES, BUT JUST DRIVE IT. NOW I REALIZE IT MAY BE A PROBLEM THAT WAS IGNORED BY FORD TO BEGIN WITH. THE MORE I DRIVE IT THE MORE DIZZY SPELLS I HAVE DURING THE DAY. THE FUMES ARE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WHEN WE RUN THE VEHICLE AND WHEN DRIVING. THIS IS BEEN RE-ACCURING SINCE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH AROUND 50K, NOW IT HAS 212K MILES.
MY FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2008 BRAKES FAILED ON MAY 14, 2018 NEARLY CAUSING A HEAD-ON COLLISION. THE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AFTER MY ABS LIGHT & PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, IT ALSO DISPLAYED "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" AS WELL AS "REGEN BRAKES DISENGAGED". I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER OF 2017 FROM A USED CAR DEALER. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT TO THEM WHERE THEY ATTEMPTED TO SCAN FOR ANY CODES BUT INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE TO FORD WHERE IT COULD BE PROPERLY SCANNED. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT ON 5/17 FOR THE ABS CODES TO BE SCANNED WHERE THEY FOUND TWO CODES: LEFT FRONT BRAKE PRESSURE & A FAULTY HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THEY STATED THAT THIS PART HAS BEEN FAILING AMONG THE HYBRID VEHICLES AND FORD HAS ISSUED A 'SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE' REGARDING THESE PARTS AS IT IS NEARLY $6,000 TO REPLACE WITH NO GUARANTEE OF IT WORKING. THE FACT THAT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS DANGEROUS FAULTY PART WITH EVIDENCE ALL ACROSS THE INTERNET AND VARIOUS OTHER SOURCES I HAVE RESEARCHED. I HAVE MADE MY STATE'S ATTORNEY GENERAL (CT),THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY, LOCAL NEWS STATIONS, BBB ALL AWARE OF THE ISSUE IN HOPES THAT SOMETHING WILL CHANGE FORD MOTOR COMPANIES MIND IN AVOIDING ANY OTHER NEAR ACCIDENTS OR EVEN DEATHS TO OCCUR. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL MOTOR-LIKE SOUND FOR A SECOND-OR-SO COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE ABS LIGHT AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON EVEN THOUGH THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD A SPONGY FEEL AND THE BRAKES WERE VERY INEFFECTIVE. APPLYING THE BRAKES CAUSED THE RIGHT-FRONT CORNER OF THE VEHICLE TO DIVE. HEAVY APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES CAUSED THE RIGHT-FRONT TIRE TO SKID. IT APPEARED THAT ONLY THE RIGHT-FRONT BRAKES WERE WORKING. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, A HIGH-PITCHED NOISE CONTINUED TO COME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES, THE HIGH-PITCHED SOUND HAD CEASED. AFTER THAT, A DRIVING TEST SHOWED THAT THE BRAKES HAD RETURNED TO WORKING NORMALLY. THIS ENTIRE SCENARIO HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES.

CAR BRAKES VERY HESITANTLY WHICH I CONSIDER TO BE EXTREMLY DANGEROUS. TOOK IT TO LOCAL FORD DEALER. HE READ CODES 1478, 1480 AND U2023. QUOTED ME THAT I NEED THE ABS MODULE REPLACED AT USD 5,537.00 PLUS TAX. THIS IS ABOVE THE KBB VALUE OF THE CAR. INVESTIGATING ON THE NET THERE IS EASILY HUNDREDS OF THE SAMECOMPLAINT OF PEOPLE LOOSING THEIR CAR AS IT IS BEYOND ECONOMICAL REPAIR. ON TOP, I THINK I ONLY GOT LUCKY THAT THE FAILURE DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AND NEEDING BRAKES IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THANKS.
CAR WILL ACCELERATE AFTER COMING TO COMPLETE STOP. TRANSMISSION SHIFT BANDS BROKE. FORD IS CHARGING 1537 TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE COMMON WITH THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE. FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PART.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID WITH 112K MILES FROM A LARGE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAD AN INSPECTION DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND ONE DONE BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. NO CODES OR SIGNS OF BRAKE FAILURE WERE APPARENT. WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK, WITH LESS THAN 25 ADDITIONAL MILES ON THE VEHICLE, WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE 'BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE' LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE "REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE" LIGHT CAME ON, THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND NO COLLISIONS, WE WERE ABLE TO SLOWLY GET THE CAR TO OUR HOME. THE NEXT DAY THE BRAKES THEN FUNCTIONED PROPERLY AND NO LIGHT WAS BEING DISPLAYED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING PAPERWORK AND INFORMED THE SALESMAN OF THE SITUATION AND TOLD HIM IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN I WOULD TAKE IT IN AND HAVE IT CHECKED. WELL ' IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON APRIL 26TH, WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET. THIS TIME WE WERE BARELY ABLE TO COME TO A STOP BEFORE RUNNING THROUGH A STOP SIGN. NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED. I BROUGHT IT INTO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FULL HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE (THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT) ' FOR AN ESTIMATED REPAIR COST OF $5800.00. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF THE BRAKES RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE A LOSS OF LIFE AND LAWSUIT BEFORE THE NHTSA WILL DO SOMETHING. BY THE NHTSA'S OWN WORDS : A RECALL IS ISSUED WHEN A MANUFACTURER OR NHTSA DETERMINES THAT A VEHICLE, EQUIPMENT, CAR SEAT, OR TIRE CREATES AN UNREASONABLE SAFETY RISK OR FAILS TO MEET MINIMUM SAFETY STANDARDS. MOST DECISIONS TO CONDUCT A RECALL AND REMEDY A SAFETY DEFECT ARE MADE VOLUNTARILY BY MANUFACTURERS PRIOR TO ANY INVOLVEMENT BY NHTSA.". THE VEHICLE'S BRAKING ABILITY WAS ERATIC AND DID NOT STOP AT MULTIPLE INTERSECTIONS. THE PART THAT FAILED ACCORDING TO CODES WAS A HYDRAULIC BRAKE CONTROL UNIT THAT COST ABOUT $5000 IF USING A NEW OEM PART. HAD CAR REPAIRED AT DEALERSHIP USING A PART WITH ALL MATCHING NUMBERS THAT WAS REBUILT, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE REPAIR. PROCEEDED ANYWAY, BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY FOR ABOUT ONE WEEK. THIS ISSUE HAS RETURNED AND THE CODES INDICATE IT NEEDS A NEW HCU, AGAIN. THE CAR FAILED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT BUT AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR CAN NOT BE DRIVEN AT THIS TIME. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL.

RECEIVED DASH NOTIFICATION "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND STEERING NOW OPERATING MANUALLY. REPROGRAMMED POWER STEERING COMPONENT 10/2014 AND ISSUE RESURFACED 4/2018. REPROGRAMMING OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED PRIOR TO ME HAVING POSSESSION OF VEHICLE AND VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCE FAULT ISSUES THAT ARE PART OF A 2014 SAFETY RECALL. FORD DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO FIX THE ISSUE UNDER THE RECALL, BUT DID OFFER THE OPTION OF SPEAKING WITH A SALES PERSON TO BUY A NEW CAR...FORD DEALER ALSO ASKED CURRENT MILEAGE OF VEHICLE AND EXPLAINED THAT THERE WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY BE A COST TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. NOTE: I HAVE ONLY ADDED APPROXIMATELY 18000 MILES TO THE CAR SINCE THE RECALL HAD ORIGINALLY BEEN REPAIRED. THE ISSUE OCCURRED WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE: I HEARD A CHIME AND THE NOTIFICATION CAME UP. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER WORKING. AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE CAR AND RESTARTING IN THE HOPES OF THE ISSUE CORRECTION, THE POWER STEERING DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY.

I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY AND ONTO THE TOWN ROAD, DRIVING SLOWLY AND THE POWER STEERING WEN OUT. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO TURN THE WHEELS USING MANUAL STEERING FOR THE NEXT HALF HOUR AS I DROVE HOME. WHEN I PARKED THE CAR AND LET IT SIT AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE POWER STEERING CAME ON.
RECALL 14S05. DEALERSHIP UPDATED MODULE 8/19/14. TORQUE SENSOR FAILED MAY 2018 CAUSING AN UNSAFE INCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT FORD WOULD NOT REPLACE THE PART WITHOUT CHARGE. HAD TO REPLACE THE PART AT A COST OF ABOUT $800. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEIR REFUSAL TO REPLACE PART AT THEIR COST WE HAD ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP REPLACE THE PART. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS POINT BUT A RECALL ITEM SHOULD BE HONORED AT WHATEVER POINT SAID PART FAILS FOR CONSUMER. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN RECALLED. IF THE PART WASN'T BAD IT WOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. PLEASE CONSIDER REQUIRING THAT FORD SHOULD EXTEND THE REPLACEMENT AND/OR REIMBURSEMENT PERIOD OF THESE PARTS AT NO CHARGE TO CONSUMERS.
CAR LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING
WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH AND THE CAR ACTED LIKE IT WAS SLIDING ON ICE AND THE ABS SYSTEM WAS WORKING ON CLEAR ROADWAY. WHEN TRYING TO TAKE BACK OFF AFTER STOPPING THE CAR IT FELT LIKE THE CAR LOST POWER. SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND IT STARTED WORKING CORRECTLY, BUT IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, AND HAS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES SINCE IT FIRST HAPPENED THE DAY BEFORE. JUST TEST DRIVING THE CAR IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THE ABS SYSTEM FEELS LIKE IT IS ENGAGING ON CLEAR ROADS.
WARNING ICON APPEARS ON DASH FOR ABS. MESSAGE SAYS "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM", THEN "REGEN BRAKING DISABLED". BRAKES ARE VERY INEFFECTIVE, REQUIRES LOTS OF PRESSURE TO STOP. INCREASE IN ELECTRONICS CLICKS FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHEN STARTING THE CAR. THERE IS ALSO A CONTINUOUS HIGH PITCHED NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, LIKE AN ELECTRONIC ALARM AT VERY LOW VOLUME. AFTER TOPPING OFF BRAKE FLUID, PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW WEEKS, BUT IT SHOWED UP AGAIN WHEN I STARTED THE CAR TONIGHT.

VIBRATING STEERING COLUMN WHILE STILL AND DRIVING AND DASHBOARD ALERT STATING "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" HAD A RECALL REPAIR REPAIR #14S05: ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BY BOB MOORE FORD ON JULY 30, 2014. THEY PERFORMED AN ELECTRONIC UPDATE AND NOW MY POWER STEERING AND STEERING COLUMN ARE HAVING FURTHER ISSUES. FORD WILL NOT HONOR AN ADDITIONAL RECALL REPAIR.
THE POWER STEERING WOULD INTERMITTENTLY GO IN AND OUT WHILE DRIVING CAUSING NEAR ACCIDENTS AND IT COULD'VE BEEN A LOT WORSE IF I HAD NOT BEEN CAUTIOUS OR STRONG ENOUGH TO TURN THE VEHICLE MANUALLY. IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT AND MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN AT TIMES.

VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING BACK AND FORTH WHILE STOPPED. THEN STARTED WHILE DRIVING AT CITY AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SEVERAL TIMES THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN. WHEN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT NOT FOR MY VIN. WHEN I CALLED FORD THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALLBUT IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED AND IS NO LONGER COVERED EVEN THOUGH THE PART THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED WAS NOT REPLACED. DUE TO THE ISSUES THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE SAFELY DRIVEN ON THE ROAD. IT SEEMS THAT FORD IS ATTEMPTING TO SIDESTEP A SAFETY RECALL BY TELLING CUSTOMERS THAT THEY FIXED A FAULTY TORQUE SENSOR BY SIMPLY UPDATING THE SOFTWARE WHICH COSTS THEM NOTHING. THEN WHEN THE PART FAILS THEY TELL CUSTOMERS THE RECALL NO LONGER APPLIES BECAUSE THEY 'FIXED' THE PROBLEM. IM ATTEMPTING TO GET PAPERWORK FROM FORD BECAUSE I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER IT GOING IN FOR A RECALL IN THE FIRST PLACE. HOW DOES FORD NOT HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO REPLACE PARTS THAT THEY KNOW ARE FAULTY WHEN THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL? THE WHOLE POINT IS TO REMOVE THE PARTS FROM THE VEHICLE BEFORE THEY FAIL AFTER IT IS DETERMINED THAT THEY WILL FAIL. THE RECALL IS 14S05.
