THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A SHARP TURN AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WENT AWAY ON ITS OWN AND NEXT DAY CAME IN AGAIN AND SINCE THEN MY CAR IS HARD TO STEER AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THERE WAS A RECALL OF 14S05 BUT IT DOESNT SHOW FOR MY VEHICLE. MINE IS THE SAME YEAR AFFECTED BUT DOES NOT APPLY FOR SOME REASON AND DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO TAKE ANY ACTION TO REMEDIATE.
RECALL STEERING -AFTER HAVING A "SOFTWARE" UPDATES ON A 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLT IN 2014 FOR FORD RECALL #14S05, NOW IN 2017 MY STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING WHILE AT A STOP BOTH IN AND OUT OF GEAR. RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM COULD BE A TORQUE STEERING SENSOR OR A FULL BLOWN STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT. BOTH MAY LEAD TO INOPERABLE POWER STEERING OR STEERING AS WELL. LOCAL FORD DEALER QUOTED $800 FOR TORQUE SENSOR REPLACEMENT OR $1800 FOR FULL STEERING COLUMN.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN JARRING AROUND AND HAS FAULTED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING, RESULTING IN AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. FORD DEALER STATES THAT THE RECALL HAS BEEN ADDRESSED WITH A "PROGRAMMING FIX," HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM IS MAKING MY VEHICLE UNSAFE TO MYSELF, AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM AMONG THE 2008-2011 FORD/MERCURY MODELS AND ONE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF, OR BE FORCED TO.
I NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN MY STEERING WHEEL ON 12/9/17 WHILE DRIVING AT VERY LOW SPEEDS DUE TO SNOWY CONDITIONS AND TODAY ON 12/10/17 POWER STEERING LOSS WAS FELT UPON LOWER SPEED TURNS ONLY FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE POWER STEERING LOSS BY END OF HOUR LONG ROUND TRIP ON MOSTLY HIGHWAY FOLLOWED BY BACK ROADS UNTIL HOME. IT IS STRANGE THAT NO RECALLS COME UP PAST OR PRESENT ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE IN 2014 FORD DID ISSUE A RECALL FOR "2008-2011 FORD ESCAPES, MERCURY MARINERS AND 2011-2013 FORD EXPLORERS FOR FAULTY TORQUE SENSORS IN STEERING COLUMNS THAT RESULT IN LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING...MAKING THE VEHICLE MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER, ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS...WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF CRASH". WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS? IS THIS RECALL EXPIRED OR SOMETHING? RECALLS SHOULD NOT EXPIRE IF THAT IS THE CASE! I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALLS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THAT I AM AWARE OF. WHEN DRIVING, STEERING LOCKS UP OR BECOMES DIFFICULT TO TURN STEERING WHEEL, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING RIGHT WHILE DRIVING.
WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE GAS STATION THE WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AND "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" CAME UP. I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS TONIGHT 12/9/2017
THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR HAS FAILED AND THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER. (RECALL 14S05) FOUND OUT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL, BUT WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF THAT! NOW WE FIND THAT THE RECALL IS CLOSED. WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR SHAKES AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) FOR WHICH IT RECEIVED THE UPDATE FOR THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM IN JUNE OF 2017. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, THE CONTACT HEARD A BEEPING SOUND AND NOTICED A WARNING INDICATOR THAT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED. THE CONTACT CALLED REINEKE FORD LINCOLN OF LIMA (1360 GREELY CHAPEL RD, LIMA, OH 45804; 419-223-3673) WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: CAS/13702203. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND SEPARATE FROM THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE NEW REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWNTOWN CITY STREET, HAD TO MAKE A TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. HAD TO STOP IMMEDIATELY ON SIDE OF THE STREET, WHICH WAS DIFFICULT SINCE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED THE FAULTY SENSOR CITED BY THE RECALL DID, IN FACT, FAIL CONTEMPORANEOUS TO THE STEERING SOFTWARE UPDATE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" MESSAGE APPEARED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME, BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE LEFT OR RIGHT. HOPKINS FORD IN ELGIN, ILLINOIS WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,917.
THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING MAKING THE CAR VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. WITH NO POWER STEERING YOU CAN STILL STEER THE CAR BUT THE EFFORT REQUIRED IS VERY VERY LARGE.
THE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR GOES OUT EVEN AFTER FORD DID A RECALL ON THE SOFTWARE AND CLOSED THE RECALL. I WENT TO A FORD GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THAT THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE AT MY EXPENSE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING COULD FAIL PERMANENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. LITHIA FORD OF KLAMATH FALLS (2833 WASHBURN WAY, KLAMATH FALLS, OR 97603 (541) 205-4501) WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT ASSIST SINCE THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,308.
THE CAR COMES TO A STALL ON THE INTERSTATE I-75 LOST TRACTION SHUTDOW THE COMBUSTION ENGINE AND A WARNING COMES UP (STOP SAFELY NOW) . THE SAME HAPPEN 8 TIMES IN A MONTH LOCALY IN WESTON. ALL THE TIMES I TURNED OFF THE KEY AND RESTARD. IT SEEMS THE SAME PROBLEM AS PER RECAL 14V-526 OR 14V526000, LOCAL DEALER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE ANY PROBLEM OR RECAL (SAWGRASS FORD)
I HAVE OWNED THIS ESCAPE FOR ONLY ABOUT 9 MONTHS. I HAVE HAD MANY SPORADIC ISSUES WITH THE GAS PEDAL. THE GAS PEDAL HAS STUCK A FEW TIMES AND I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PRESS DOWN ON THE PEDAL. IT SEEMS TO ACT UP WORSE WHEN THE WEATHER GETS COLDER. I HAVE HAD A FEW INSTANCES WHERE I WAS DRIVING AND WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND HAD TO PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK AND KEEP PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL UNTIL IT FINALLY ALLOWED ME TO ACCELERATE AND MOVE FORWARD. WHEN THE PEDAL LOCKS UP IT IS LIKE PRESSING AGAINST A WALL AND THERE IS NO GIVE IN THE PEDAL BUT WHEN IT DOES FINALLY PRESS DOWN IT CAUSES A HIGH ACCELERATION AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LAUNCH FORWARD. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCARY SITUATION WHEN YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN CAN'T DRIVE YOUR CAR. THANKFULLY I HAVE NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE BUT I FEEL IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNLESS THIS ISSUE IS FIXED. AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THIS MAKE. IT IS VERY UNSAFE AND I AM ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT BEING STRANDED OR HAVING THIS CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AS A MOTHER OF A 4 YEAR OLD THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCARY ISSUE TO HAVE! I LOVE MY ESCAPE AND WOULD LOVE TO KEEP IT BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT LIKE THIS. I HOPE THAT THIS ISSUE IS BEING LOOKED INTO AFTER SEEING OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND I HOPE THAT THIS ISSUE CAN BE RESOLVED!

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND NO SOUNDS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
I HAVE A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID THAT DISPLAYED A STOP SAFELY NOW SIGN AND THEN IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER, WHILE I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR BEGAN LOSING POWER AND WITHIN SECONDS WOULDN'T MOVE AT ALL. I AM THE NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO AND IT APPEARS THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE CAUSE. IT IS THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM PUMP, AND YET EVEN WITH THEIR KNOWLEDGE THEY HAVE FAILED TO ISSUE A RECALL. I BELIEVE THEY ARE WAITING FOR SOMETHING TERRIBLE TO HAPPEN TO SOMEONE BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS. HAVING A CAR LOSE COMPLETE POWER ON A HIGHWAY IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND THE ISSUE APPEARS TO ONLY BE WITH 2005-2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS. AGAIN INDICATING FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM SOMETHING THEY ORIGINALLY DID WRONG IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE CAR AND YET CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BEFORE SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENS.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND THIS IS THE THIRD TIME MY ABS BRAKES HAVE FAILED. I DON'T KNOW THE TECHNICAL REASON BUT MY CAR DOES NOT STOP PROPERLY IN NINE YEARS THE BRAKING SYSTEM SHOULD NOT FAIL THREE TIMES.
RECALL ITEM #14S05 IS NOT BEING REPAIRED UNDER THIS RECALL AND I'M LEFT WITH NO POWER STEERING. CAME IN TO DEALERSHIP ON AUG 29TH TO GET RECALL ITEM LOOKED AT - NO CODES AT THE TIME AND DEALER DID 'MODULE REPROGRAM' WITH NO REPAIRS. RECALL ITEM THEN BROKE AND I CAME IN FOR SERVICE ON NOV 17TH. CODE B2278 THEN CAME UP TO REPLACE STEERING COLUMN AND THE DEALER ALONG WITH FORD DENIES THE REPAIR SHOULD BE UNDER THE RECALL AND I WAS QUOTED $1,500. BOTH FORD AND NICK MAYER FORD LET ME LEAVE THE SERVICE DEPTH WITHOUT THE REPAIR. I'M FIGHTING TO GET THIS REPAIR DONE FOR FREE AS REQUIRED UNDER THE RECALL. I CAN SEND DOCUMENTATION UNDER SEPARATE COVER.
THERE IS A POWER STEERING PROBLEM WITH MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE POWER STEERING STARTED TO SHAKE AT FIRST AND GOT VERY STIFF TO TURN AROUND AND MOVE FROM MY GARAGE EVENTUALLY. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT MY SITUATION AND THEY SAID THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON RECALL. MY VEHICLE IS AT THE SHOP AT THE MOMENT. I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH IT WILL COST ME.
SOMETIMES WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL...IT JUST WON'T DEPRESS AND I AM PUSHING ON THE PEDAL WITH MY FOOT - BUT I CAN'T MAKE THE CAR GO, AND THE PEDAL SEEMS 'STUCK'...IT HAS LED TO A FEW DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE I TRIED TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY AND PULLED OUT - BUT THEN COULD NOT GET THE GAS PEDAL TO DEPRESS! EVENTUALLY AFTER 3-10 SECONDS THE PEDAL WILL DEPRESS AND I CAN GET THE CAR TO MOVE BUT I NEVER REALLY KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO BE 'STUCK' WORSE THAN OTHERS.... I CAN TELL IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN AS THE AIR GETS COLDER - IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND I USED TO THINK IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD A FLOOR MAT THAT I WAS CERTAIN WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND GETTING IN THE WAY- BUT WHEN I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTED. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS FAILED AS I WAS TURNING A CORNER WHICH ALMOST CAUSED ME TO RUN OVER A LITTLE GIRL AND HER MOTHER.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPIARED UNDER MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: 14S05, A SECOND REPAIR WOULD NOT BE FREE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 202,000.
WHILE DRIVING INTO PARKING LOT, SUDDENLY LOSS POWER STEERING. ABLE TO DRIVE BUT HARD TO STEER. MECHANIC STATED THERE IS A FAULT CODE AND PROBLEM IS ELECTRICAL. RECALL 14S05 SEEMS TO DESCRIBE EXACT ISSUE.

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000.

HAVE HAD ALL RECALLS APPLIED. CAR STARTED NORMALLY BUT HAD NO POWER STEERING. FORD'S FINE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. STOPPED CAR, TURNED OFF IGNITION, RESTARTED. EVERYTHING FINE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BELL FORD (2401 WEST BELL RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85013) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS REQUIRED. LATER, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED WHILE THE ENGINE IDLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK REPLACEMENT AND STEERING CALIBRATION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE PROGRESSED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS INOPERABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY STEERING BECAME REALLY HARD TO TURN STILL WAS ABLE TO GO DOWN THE ROAD BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. TOOK MY ESCAPE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD MY ELECTRONIC STEERING SENSOR IS BAD. I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME NOR THE MONEY TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE AND THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAKING THREE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN OFF CAUSING A HISSING NOISE. I CAN SMELL THE EXHAUST IN MY VEHICLE WHEN PARKED.
THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS CAR SHE GOT BOUGHT FOR HER 18 BIRTHDAY. NOT A YEAR LATER AND THE WHOLE ABS SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR 5 GRAND AND NOW THE TRADE IN VALUE IS WORTH 2200. MY PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLES BRAKES IS SIMILAR TO OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ON THIS FORUM. SOMETIMES I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES, BUT ABOUT HALF THE TIME AFTER STARING THE CAR THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON ALLONG WITH REGEN BRAKES NOT WORKING AND TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP REQUIRES STOMPING BREAK PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED IT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO ROLL PAST A STOP SIGN AND INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF THE BRAKES RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. THE REPAIR SHOP OF COURSE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AS THE BRAKES WERE WORKING FINE THEN. MOST LIKELY THOUGH, THE CULPRIT IS IN THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEM, HENCE THE 'REGEN BRAKING' NOTE THAT COMES ON.

THE COMPUTER CHECKS THE BRAKES UPON START AND THE COMPUTER IS FALSELY DETECTING AN ERROR WITH THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PUMP PERIODICALLY. IT CAN OCCUR 1 IN EVERY 50 STARTS TO SOMETIME 5 ATTEMPTS IN EVERY 1 GOOD START. THE COMPUTER IF IT SEES AN ERROR WILL DISABLE THE REGENERATIVE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE WILL BRAKE SIGNIFICANTLY SLOWER AND LESS EFFICIENTLY WHEN IN ERROR MODE. THE COMPUTER GLITCH REQUIRES A TOTAL REPLACEMENT AND MUST BE REPROGRAMMED AT THE DEALER AT A COST OF $4 TO $5 THOUSAND. BASED ON THE THOUSANDS I SEE ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND NATURE OF ISSUE (BRAKES AND SAFETY), I AM SURPRISED TO SEE A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MANDATED.
