I WAS DRIVING AND THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING ON 9/25/2017
WHEN TURNING THE KEY TO START THE CAR, IT WILL NOT ENGAGE. HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING THE KEY IN HARDER AND HARDER TO GET THE KEY TO START. TAKES 20-30 TRIES TO GET THE CAR TO START. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE BATTERY AND IT APPEARS TO BE AN IGNITION PROBLEM. HAVE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. STEERING WHEEL TURNS AND ONCE CAR DOES START IT'S FINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, BUT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO LONGHORN FORD (1311 S PACIFIC ST, MINEOLA, TX 75773), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,715.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES FAILED TO WORK WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC A MILE AWAY (ARNOLDS OIL COMPANY, 466 OLD US RTE 52, NEW RICHMOND, OH 45157) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-392-3673 AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. A CASE NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. LOSS OF PRESSURE IN THE TOP END RESULTING IN FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION. WAS COASTING INTO TOWN (TOOK FOOT OFF GAS FOR LOWER SPEED LIMIT) ENGINE SHIFTED HARD AND REVS TO HIGH RPM AND HAS NO POWER.
EXTREME UNDERCARRIAGE / WHEEL WELL EROSION. THE SHOCKS HAVE PUSHED UP INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AS THEY ARE NOT MOUNTED TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE BODY. TRUNK MATT IS EXPOSED THROUGH WHEEL WELL. SUSPENSION IS DISENGAGING FROM THE BODY.
I WAS DROPPING MY CHILD OFF AT SCHOOL. I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK AND WHEN I PULLED OUT AND WENT TO USE MY BRAKE THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE PEDAL VIBRATED LIKE ABS WAS ENGAGED. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BUT IT WAS VERY SLOWLY. I WAS GOING UNDER 10 MPH.WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE AGAIN MY ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND YOU COULD HEAR THE SOUND OF THE TRACTION CONTROL BEING ENGAGED. I HAD TO STOP TWO MORE TIMES ON MY WAY HOME AND WAS ABLE TO DO SO BY DRIVING ONLY 5 MPH WITH MY FOUR WAYS ON. THE TRACTION CONTROL SOUND WAS INTERMITTENT AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUED TO GO TO THE FLOOR AND VIBRATE. THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO NOT WORK PROPERLY AND MAKE SOUNDS. I WAS ONLY 1 MILE FROM HOME AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA WHILE I WAS MAKING A SHORT TRIP UNDER 3 MILES BOTH WAYS. IT HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND PULLED OUT. AFTER DOING SOME REASEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEM. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT AND THAT I WAS DRIVING SLOW AT THE TIME. I JUST DROPPED MY CHILD OFF AT SCHOOL. HAD THIS OCCURRED AT ANOTHER TIME WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS WELL AS ANYONE ELSE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED. I HAVE CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP TODAY TO HAVE MY VEHICLE LOOKED AT AND AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. SINCE THIS IS A COMMON AND SERIOUS PROBLEM I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.

THE DEALER (L & L FORD, 314 HARRISBURG ST, EAST BERLIN, PA 17316, (717) 259-6334) WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE EPS WARNING INDICATOR WAS FLASHING. THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN VIBRATING AND VEERING TO THE LEFT, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO APPLY FORCE TO CORRECT THE DIRECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL EACH TIME THE FAILURE HAPPENED. THE DEALER FAILED TO PROVIDE A REMEDY AND CLEARED THE CODE AS IF THEY HAD PROVIDED A SOLUTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THAT THE DEALER CLEARED THE CODE WITHOUT REMEDYING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS VEHICLE STARTED MINOR STEERING PROBLEMS JAN 23, 2014 AND HAS SHOWN MINOR TO NOW MAJOR POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. THE POWER STEERING SEEMS TO GO OUT, THEN REVIVE WHEN RESTARTED. NOW THE INCIDENTS ARE BECOMING MORE FREQUENT AND FOR THIS FEMALE, NOW NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS UPON STARTING THE CAR.

IN THE DASH AND THE STEERING WHEEL, THE COVERS FOR THE AIR BAGS HAVE BECOME SUPER STICKY. I AM WONDERING IF, BECAUSE OF WHERE THE AIR BAGS ARE, THAT SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED BEHIND THE COVERS THAT IS EFFECTING THE CONSISTENCY OF THE COVERS. I HAVE TRIED ALL KINDS OF CLEANERS, GOO BE GONE, ALCOHOL TO REMOVE OR REDUCE THE STICKYNESS BUT NOTHING HAS WORKED. I AM WORRIED THAT IF THE AIR BAGS ARE DEPLOYED THAT THEY WILL EITHER NOT WORK OR THAT SOME CHEMICAL REACTION HAS OCCURRED THAT WOULD BE WORSE THAN THEN NOT DEPLOYING.

THE LOCAL DEALER (RIVER VIEW FORD, 2200 US-30, OSWEGO, IL) WAS CONTACTED AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VIN WAS INVALID. FRONTIER FORD IN SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE SOURCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,500. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE "WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED AND SUDDENLY THE CAR JOLTED FORWARD ALMOST CREATING AN ACCIDENT BY RAPIDLY SLOWING THE VEHICLE, ONCE CONTROL WAS REGAINED I MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME ON "LIMP" MODE, WHERE THE VEHICLE IS RESTRICTED TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. UPON LOOKING AT THIS SITE, I FOUND THE INVESTIGATION FOR THE 09-13 FORD ESCAPE THROTTLE BODY WARRANTY, WHICH THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIAGNOSED BY A CERTIFIED FORD GARAGE ON MY VEHICLE, THE PART IS THE SAME FROM 05-13 ON THE 3L ENGINE ESCAPE MODELS AND SERIOUSLY POSED A THREAT TO ME WHILE DRIVING HOWEVER SINCE IT IS A 2008, NOT A 2009, FORD WILL NOT GRANT THE DEALERSHIP PERMISSION TO REPLACE THE PART FREE OF CHARGE, ALTHOUGH THE SAME PART AND SAME MALFUNCTION IS ACKNOWLEDGED IN THE 09-13 MODELS AND IS UNDER AND EXTENDED MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, LISTED UNDER CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM CODE "13N03"
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY GOING ON VACATION THE SUNROOF JUST SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. NO ACCIDENT, NO DAMAGE, NO ANYTHING HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND AND I, WHO OWN THE CAR WERE JUST DRIVING ALONG AND IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT WENT OFF AND THE NEXT THING WE KNEW, WE OPENED THE COVER AND IT WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED. WE WERE IN MOTION ON INTERSTATE I75 NORTH HEADED TOWARD CHATTANOOGA. JUST SAW THE ADD IN THE CONSUMER REPORT MAGAZINE ON 1/2/2018 FOR SUNROOF SAFETY.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD AND 4 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 45 MIN AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS, THEN SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 5-10 MILES PER HOUR DUE TO TRAFFIC. ALL OF A SUDDEN, WHILE SLOWLY MOVING IN TRAFFIC, A TONE SOUNDED, A RED TRIANGLE APPEARED ON THE DASH AND THE MESSAGE CENTER SHOWED 'STOP SAFELY NOW'. THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, SO THE CAR STALLED AND STOPPED ITSELF FOR ME WITH NO TIME TO REACT. I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A 3 LANE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. IT JUST KEPT THE SAME MESSAGE 'STOP SAFELY NOW', WITH THE RED TRIANGLE DISPLAYED. EVENTUALLY A ROAD RANGER ASSISTED ME TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY PUSHING MY DEAD CAR WHILE IN NEUTRAL. I LET THE CAR SIT AND COOL OFF OVER NIGHT AND THEN WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT IN THE MORNING WITH NO ISSUES AT ALL. AFTER READING ONLINE, THE FAILURE SOUNDS IDENTICAL TO OTHER FORD ESCAPE HYBRID PROBLEMS WITH THE FAILURE OF THE MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT (MEC) PUMP. THERE WAS A RECALL THAT COVERED MY VEHICLE MODEL PRODUCTION YEAR MODEL AND LOCATION OF PRODUCTION, NHTSA RECALL NO. : 14V-526 MANUFACTURER RECALL NO. : 14S19. HOWEVER, AFTER INQUIRIES WITH NHSTA AND FORD, BOTH HAVE TOLD ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THERE IS NO EXPLANATION THAT EITHER ENTITY WILL PROVIDE AS TO WHY MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE, WITH THE SAME PRODUCTION DATE, LOCATION, AND MODEL AS THIS RECALL, DOES NOT FALL UNDER THIS RECALL. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS WHEN THE RECALL WAS INITIATED EITHER, IF THIS HAD OCCURRED LESS THAN A MINUTE EARLIER, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND ONLY BY CHANCE IT OCCURRED WHEN TRAFFIC WAS MOVING SLOWER, LEAVING TIME FOR OTHER DRIVERS TO REACT TO MY STALLED VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE.
WHILE APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT 45MPH WITH A STOP SIGNAL BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE TO NO BRAKING EFFECT. GOT STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING OR BEING HIT. YELLOW ABS AND RED BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. FORD DEALERSHIP REPORTS THAT VEHICLE NEEDS NEW HBCU @ $5000. MULTIPLE CAR FORUMS WITH SAME EXACT ISSUE. SO FAR NO ONE KILLED AND FORD WILL NOT ADMIT ANY PROBLEMS OR TRY TO SATISFY CUSTOMERS WITH A FIX. I HAVE NOW REACHED OUT TO YOU FOR HELP AND MAKE THIS ISSUE A MATTER OF DOCUMENTATION WITH THE NHSTB. PLEASE GET INVOLVED BEFORE THIS GETS UGLY.
THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE BRAKE REGENERATION DISABLED IS DISPLAYED ON DASH. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THERE IS A LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT CALLS FOR THE ECU TO BE REPLACED AND THE REPAIR IS $5,000. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPLACE THIS PART AS IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE.
. IN 2012 AND 2013, I HAD POWER STEERING FAILURES WHILE DRIVING, LUCKILY RESULTING IN NO COLLISIONS. BOTH TIMES I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO A FORD DEALER. BOTH TIMES, I WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. IN 2014, FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE POWER STEERING. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT MY FORD TO MY DEALER FOR SERVICE. INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE STEERING COLUMN, THEY CHOOSE A 2ND OPTION (CHEAPER) AND SIMPLY REPROGRAMMED/ REBOOTED THE SENSOR. ON JULY 21ST, 2017, I PARKED MY CAR AND WHEN I CAME OUT A STARTED THE CAR, I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL SERVICE CENTER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT ACCORDING TO THE COMPUTER THE SAME PART FAILED AGAIN. THEY RE-SET THE SENSOR AND WE TOOK THE CAR INTO OUR FORD DEALER TO HAVE IT SERVICED FOR THE RECALL. BOTH THE FORD DEALER AND FORD NA TOLL FREE SERVICE CENTER (I SPOKE TO DARREN IN AUGUST 8TH) TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE FORD HAD ALREADY PERFORMED THE RECALL SERVICE THAT THEY WILL NOT HONOR THIS ISSUE AS PART OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER, SINCE THE FORD DEALER TOOK THE 'CHEAPER' OPTION AND REPROGRAMMED THE SENSOR, FORD SHOULD HONOR THE RECALL AND REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS IS THE SERVICE THAT OUR FORD DEALER STATED IS NOW REQUIRED TO FIX THE ISSUE. WE ARE FACED WITH SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OR DRIVING ESSENTIALLY AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BECAUSE FORD WAS ALLOWED TO OFFER THIS 'CHEAPER' RECALL SERVICE TO FORD OWNERS. IT'S A DISGRACE.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ACROSS COUNTRY FROM VIRGINIA TO CALIFORNIA AND BACK THROUGH TEXAS ON HIGHWAYS AND BACK ROADS. SHE STOPPED FOR GAS IN TEXAS AND WHEN SHE BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN SHE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING,POWER STEERING WAS OUT. SHE HAD TO DRIVE BACK TO VIRGINIA WITH NO POWER STEERING WHICH CAUSED A SAFETY ISSUE. UPON RETURNING TO VIRGINIA THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WYNNE FORD WHICH DETERMINED AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAULT AND THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE LOCK MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE DISCOVERED THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. SAFETY RECALL 14S05- ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. WE WERE THEN TOLD HER VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL BECAUSE ONLY VEHICLES FROM THE KANSAS PLANT WOULD BE COVERED. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM JUST A DIFFERENT PLANT AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL.
LOSS OF BRAKE FUNCTION WHILE DRIVING. ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES DURING DRIVING. WARNING MESSAGE "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" WARNING MESSAGE "REGEN BRAKING DISABLED" AT TIMES NEED TO PRESS BRAKE VERY HARD JUST TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SLOWLY ROLL TO A STOP. OCCASIONALLY, THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AND ALMOST FEELS LIKE IT IS PARTIALLY ENGAGED, EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT DEPRESS THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL. I'VE RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM - MANY ON THE 2008 ESCAPE HYBRID ITSELF, BUT MANY ON OTHER ESCAPE YEARS AS WELL. FORD DENIES THIS AS A PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO BOTH MY DEALER AND FORD CORPORATION - THEY SAY THEY HAVEN'T HEARD ABOUT ANY BRAKING PROBLEMS ON THE ESCAPE HYBRIDS -THEY LIE THROUGH THEIR TEETH. MAYBE NHTSA CAN MAKE THEM OWN UP TO THEIR PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE REALLY GETS HURT - OR WORSE.

THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (POWER STEERING); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL REPAIR REMEDY WAS PERFORMED AT WESTLIE MOTOR COMPANY (LOCATED ON 500 S BROADWAY ST, MINOT, ND, 58701). DUE TO THE CONTACT BEING OUT OF TOWN DURING THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER (HAVRE FORD LOCATED AT 1991 2ND AVE, HAVRE, MT, 59501) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN HAD BEGUN TO FAIL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO ACTIVE RECALLS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE IT UP WITH HER LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,000.

DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWED THAT HUNDREDS OF CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD OR ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. BUT AS THE DEALERSHIP STATED, SORRY THERE'S NO RECALL. CONTROL MODULE POWER RELAY CONTROL, AND U0418 INVALID DATA RCVD FROM CONTROL MODULE. MY COUSIN WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE CODES TO SEE IF WE RESTARTED THE CAR AND DEOVE AROUND IF THE SAME ERRORS WOULD POP BACK UP AND THEY DID. I HAVE READ ONLINE WHERE THOUSANDS, IF NOT MORE, WERE HAVING THE SAME HYDRAULIC/BRAKING PROBLEMS THAT COULD COST UPWARDS OF $5000 TO FIX. SOME EVEN REPORTED THAT REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER DIDNT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD TWO OCCASSIONS WHERE MY CAR WOULD BARELY STOP NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALSO, WHEN MY VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, WITH THE KEY TAKEN OUT, THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE MODULE OR CENSOR IS EMITTING A HIGH-PITCHED HUM FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHEN NOTHING IS TURNED ON. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE FURTHER AS IT SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH SIMILAR YEAR MODEL HYBRIDS.
THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AND WHEN TAKEN TO A DEALER IN DECEMBER OF 2016 WE WERE TOLD THAT THE STEERING SENSOR THAT WAS RECALLED WAS NOT REPORTING AN ERROR CODE AND THUS WAS NOT REPLACED. THIS MONTH THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND WE WERE TOLD BY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP THAT THE RECALLED PART HAD FAILED BUT BECAUSE WE HAD ALREADY TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL, AND EVEN THOUGH THE PART HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED WE WERE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND IT IS COSTING US AROUND $600.00 FOR THE REPAIR. I CALLED FORD DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS RECALLED WE WERE NOT ELIGIBLE SINCE WE HAD ALREADY TAKEN IT IN. I BELIEVE IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR FORD TO NOT REPLACE THIS RECALLED PART. JUST BECAUSE WE WANTED TO BE CAREFUL AND SAFE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN RIGHT AWAY WE ARE BEING PENALIZED NOW THAT THE PART HAS FAILED. SAID OVER 368 COMPLAINTS JUST ON THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM, SPECIFICALLY ON THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE. I TRIED RESETTING THE PCM. DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. REPLACED THE THROTTLE CONTROL SENSOR. DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. NOW THAT LEAVES THE 2ND & 4TH GEAR BAND ASSEMBLY. I CALLED AND GOT 3 ESTIMATES, THEY RANGED FROM$1900-$3000. PART COST $89 AND A NEW TRANSMISSION COST $1700. REPLACING THIS PART CAN BE DONE WITHOUT HAVING TO REMOVE TRANSMISSION AND SAID TO ABOUT 2HOURS. MY COMPLAINT IN IF THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WHY AREN'T YOU REPLACING PART OR FIXING THIS? I AM QUITE STRONG AND IT IS LIKELY ANYONE W/LESS BODY STRENGTH WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COMMAND THE VEHICLE. THAT IS WHEN I REVIEWED THE VOLUMINOUS COMPLAINTS FILED AND DETERMINED FORD IS COMPLETELY UNWILLING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT WAS A FAULTY PART SUBJECTING TO OWNERS TO GREAT RISK OF INJURY. IT APPEARS BASED ON MY RESEARCH THAT THE RECALL SERVICE DONE WAS A FARCE AND WASTE OF TIME FOR CONSUMERS W/NO REAL REDUCTION OF SAFETY RISK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 148,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THURSDAY 3/23/17 THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED CLICKING AND SHAKING BACK AND FORTH BY ITSELF DURING DRIVING AND AT A STOP. I INVESTIGATED RIGHT AWAY AND DISCOVERED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TORQUE SENSOR BUT ALL THEY DID WAS A COMPUTER UPDATE RATHER THEN REPLACE THE PART. NOW THEY WON'T HONOR THE RECALL AND THE COST IS $1700-$1900 TO FIX.
