TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) BUT THE RECALL REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. SINCE OWNING VEHICLE PROBLEMS WITH STEERING WOULD HAPPEN ONCE IN A WHILE ( ONCE A MONTH ) ON 10/09/14 TOOK CAR IN FOR RE-CALL. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR WARRANTY REPAIR AT VILLAGE FORD, DEARBORN (313-565-3900). INVOICE READS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, CAUSE 14S05; CHECK FOR DTCS AND REPROGRAM THE PSCM AND THE IC MODULE; 997595 WORK WAS STARTED/FINISHED ON 2 DEC 2014. A COUPLE DAYS LATER, AFTER THE WARRANTY REPAIR, STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND UNLESS WHEEL IS HELD TIGHTLY AT ALL TIMES THE VEHICLE VEERS TO THE RIGHT. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE WITH STEERING WHEEL PROBLEMS SEEMINGLY DUE TO THE WARRANTY REPAIR. UPDATED 4/12/2016*JS

I OWN A 2008 FORD ESCAPE A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO COMING OFF THE THRUWAY I STARTED TO APPLY MY BREAKS TO SLOW DOWN,INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN MY VEHICLE SPED FORWARD ON ITS OWN,I HAD TO FIRMLY APPLY THE BREAKS TO MAKE IT STOP JUST BARELY AVOIDING HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME,RIGHT AFTER THAT A YELLOW WRENCH CAME ON THE DASH.THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO HIGHER THAN 20 MILES,THE CAR WAS BASICALLY COASTING.WHEN I TRY TO GIVE IT MORE POWER IT WOULD JUST STALL.I HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO PAY $100 TO SEE WHAT'S WRONG,THEY TELL ME MY 2ND AND 4TH GEAR IS GONE AND I HAVE TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED. A FORD REBUILD TRANSMISSION WOULD COST ME OVER $4200,A JUNK YARD TRANSMISSION $3800,CALLED AAMCO THEY SAID $2200 I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2011 WITH A LITTLE OVER 34,000 MILES,IT CURRENTLY HAS 58,300 MILES ON IT,NOW IN 3 YRS I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE LESS THEN 25,000 MILES.MEANING AROUND 8,000 MILES IF THAT A YEAR.SO WHY IN THE WORLD DO I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSIONS? I LEARNED THERE WAS A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE FORD ESCAPES 2005-2013 MODELS ALL WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, INSTEAD OF FORD DOING A RECALL AND FIXING THE PROBLEM,THEY SETTLE ON A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM,BUT INSTEAD OF THEM INCLUDING ALL THE VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE,THEY ONLY DO IT FOR THE 2009-2013 MODELS. I TALKED TO SOMEONE FROM THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY SAID MY CAR WASN'T ELIGIBLE FOR THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM CAUSE ITS A 08 ,WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE ON THE YEAR ITS THE SAME ISSUE AS ALL THE OTHER ESCAPES .NOW IS THAT FAIR IF THERE'S OTHER YEAR MODELS OUT THERE NOW EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE.THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE IN FIXING THE PROBLEM.NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I CANT DRIVE AND HAVE TO WAIT TO GET UP THE MONEY TO FIX. WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER CLASS LET OUT, WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STALLED AND I HAD TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL. I LOOKED INTO IT, TURN OUT MY SECOND & FOURTH GEAR WENT OUT ON MY TRANSMISSION. TURNS OUT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS & NOT EVEN AT 100,000 MILES! FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS MODEL, BECAUSE IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN THIS FREQUENTLY TO ALL THE 08' MODELS.

VEHICLE RE-EXHIBITED STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY SYMPTOMS 20 NOVEMBER 2014, AND COMPLETELY FAILED 21 NOVEMBER 2014, WITHOUT ANY ACCOMPANYING VISIBLE/AUDIBLE WARNINGS, I.E. CHIME OR LIGHTED DASH INDICATOR. DEALER APPOINTMENT IS SCHEDULED FOR 26 NOVEMBER 2014. *TR

CAR STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING AND CAR BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. ALMOST HAD ACCIDENT. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER SHIP AND THEY WILL CHARGE OVER $900.00 TO REPAIR AND TAKE 2 DAYS. STEERING COLUMN MUST BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO FORD DEALER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE POWER STEERING FAILED 2 MONTH AFTER THE RECALL WAS DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE (14S05) FROM FORD ADVISING ME TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO FIX THE SENSOR THAT CAUSES LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE ONLY THING THEY DID WAS A SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO ALERT YOU WHEN THE SENSOR FAILS. THIS IS NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED ADDITIONAL DETAILS. *TR
WHEN I PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR WOULD SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND GIVE ME A RED TRIANGLE SYMBOL AND TELL ME TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I WOULD THEN TURN THE CAR IGNITION OFF AND RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD BE FINE AGAIN. I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH 2008-2011 FORD ESCAPES AND THE ISSUE WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY WHICH FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPLACED, BUT THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED ONLY APPLIED TO FORD ESCAPE NON HYBRIDS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE. THIS ISSUE HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR 1 YEAR BEFORE I HAD IT REPLACED IN NOV OF 2014.
PURSUANT TO THE 2014 RECALL ON MY VEHICLE, I TOOK MY 2008 ESCAPE TO BE SERVICED. UPON INFORMATION AND BELIEF, THE TORQUE SENSOR MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED TO PREVENT THE LOSS OF STEERING. SAID SERVICE WAS PERFORMED ON OCTOBER 1, 2014. ON NOVEMBER 14, 2014, THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF STEERING WHILE DRIVING WITH MY YOUNG CHILD, THREE HOURS FROM HOME. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED THE WORK UNDER THE RECALL, I WAS TOLD WE WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS, DESPITE THE MECHANIC ADMITTING AND AGREEING WITH US THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MECHANIC'S HANDS WERE TIED AS FORD WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED ON THE COMPANY'S EXPENSE. THE ESTIMATED PRICE OF REPAIRS IS $1600. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD US HAD WE NOT BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AS INSTRUCTED BY THE WELL PUBLICIZED RECALL AND THE STEERING FAILED, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE RECALL STATES, "ALTERNATIVELY, THE DEALER MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR OR THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE (PARTS AND LABOR)". FORD INDICATED BY PHONE THAT THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE FIRST VISIT. ANY SUBSEQUENT VISIT FOR A RECALL ISSUE IS THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. FORD'S MISREPRESENTATIONS IN ITS RECALL NOTICE AND SUBSEQUENT ACTIONS ARE UNFAIR AND DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES, NOT TO MENTION AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE AND DANGER TO CONSUMERS WHO BELIEVE NOT THAT THEIR VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE AFTER BEING SERVICED BY THE RECALL. *TR
THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR SYSTEM FAILURE. SURGING, UNNECESSARY REVVING AT LOW SPEEDS. INCONSISTENT ACCELERATION AND GEAR CHANGE. TROUBLE CODE "P2112 THROTTLE ACTUATOR SYSTEM STUCK". *TR
THE IGNITION SWITCH MOVES IN IT'S HOUSING. MAKING THE DRIVER HAVE TO CRACK THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH AND/ OR TURN THE KEY VERY HARD TO GET IT TO START. SOMETIMES GETTING IT STARTED IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. THIS PART IS FAULTY. THERE SHOULD BE RECALL ON THIS IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO ENCOUNTER THIS ISSUE WITH THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE. IT IS NOT A PART THAT SHOULD FAIL AFTER ONLY 6 YEARS ON THE ROAD. *TR

GAS PEDAL STICKS WHEN AIR TEMP IS BELOW 20 DEGREES. CAN'T PRESS PEDAL TO GET GAS TO ENGINE. *TR
TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL FOR THE TORQUE SENOR TOLD THE GENTLEMEN SEVERAL TIMES MY STEERING LOCKED UP WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND MADE A KLUCKING NOISE, HE SAID WE WILL CHECK IT OUT WILL 10 MINUTES LATER MY CAR WAS DONE ANOTHER GENTLEMEN SAID WE RESET YOUR TORQUE SENSOR THIS DID NOTHING FOR MY PROBLEM I HAVE READ THE INVESTAGATION ABOUT THE PRIOR RECALL ON MY FORD ESCAPE AND I DO BELIEVE IF THEY WOULD OF FIXED THE PROBLEM PROPERLY AND CHANGE THE TORQUE SENOR OR DROVE MY CAR TO SEE EXCATLY HOW THE STEERING WAS ACTING NOW THEY WANT 100:S OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE MY STEERING COLUM THS IS NOT RIGHT AT ALL .PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE POWER CUT OUT TO THE VEHICLE, AND THE THROTTLE STOPPED RESPONDING, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT VERY LABORED. AT THE SAME TIME THE WRENCH LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASH. USING THE FORWARD MOMENTUM I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER, WHERE IT STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO RE-TART THE ENGINE WHERE IT RAN LABORED AGAIN, AND STALLED OUT, THE THROTTLE WAS NOT RESPONSIVE DURING THIS TIME AT ALL. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 RE-STARTS WITH THE LAST COMING AFTER THE VEHICLE SAT AWHILE, I WAS ABLE TO RE-START IT AND DRIVE IT NORMAL. THROTTLE RESPONSE RETURNED, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED FOR MY WIFE AGAIN ON 11/12 WITH A SIMILAR RESULT. *TR

HOWEVER, THE SECOND DAY AFTER THE SOFTWARE WAS REPROGRAMMED THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,540.
MY CAR DOESN'T TAKE 2ND OR 4TH GEAR. IT'S A FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET WITH FORD ESCAPE OWNERS ONCE THIS CAR PASSES 100, 000 MILES. FORD HAS NOT DONE A RECALL ON THIS. I THINK IT IS UNFAIR THAT CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION WHEN FORD KNOW THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO PROVIDE A REMEDY AND THEY DID NOT STATE FOR THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN ONCE THE FAILURE HAD BEEN EXPERIENCED. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE AND CLEARED THE RECALL OUT AS A COMPLETED REPAIR. THE CONTACT LATER EXPERIENCED THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZING WITH NO WARNING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TWICE (11/11 AND 11/13) WHO SAID THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER FROM KOERNER ADVISED THAT HIS RECALL NOTICE STATES THAT IF HE UPDATES THE SOFTWARE AND THERE IS NO OTHER CODES COMING UP WHEN THE CAR IS BROUGHT IN FOR THE RECALL SERVICE, THEY DO NOT NEED TO FIX IT. PER MY RECALL NOTICE, THAT IS NOT DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY STATED. ALSO LEARNED FROM FORD REP ON 11/13 THAT THE KOERNER SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THIS HAPPENED TO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT UNDER THE RECALL. MY 2008 ESCAPE (BUILT NOV '07) HAD RCL 14S05 PERFORMED NOV 2014 WHEN THERE WERE NO STEERING SYMPTOMS. HAD CAR IN FOR NEW TIRES ON MY OWN DIME, DEALER WANTED TO DO OPEN RECALL. I LET THEM. IN 2007 AND EVER SINCE, MY STEERING WENT BAD. INTERMITTENTLY THE WHEEL ROCKS IDLING IN PARK. ALWAYS LACK OF ASSIST PARKING MANUEVERS, DEPENDING ON AMBIENT TEMP. I SEEK FORD TO RE-OPEN RECALL 14S05 TO FIX THIS STEERING LACK OF ASSIST DESIGN PROBLEM. IT IS BAIT AND SWITCH FOR FORD TO CALL THE RECALL CLOSED IF YOU HAD REFLASH DONE AT EARLY POINT IN TIME WHEN STEERING DESIGN FLAW EXISTS THAT RIDES WITH VEHICLE FOR ITS LIFETIME. WHEN I WOULD TRY TO ACCELERATE WHETHER FROM A STOPPED POSITION OR ALREADY IN MOTION MY GAS PEDAL STICKS. I'M UNABLE TO PRESS IT DOWN AND I LOSE SPEED. EACH TIME I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL OR BRAKE PEDAL I HEAR A POP. I WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND IT SUDDENLY WOULDN'T LET ME ACCELERATE FOR A FEW MINUTES. I WAS TRAVELING AT THE POSTED SPEED ON NORTH BOUND IH 35 JUST NORTH OF GEORGETOWN. I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO SLOW BRIEFLY TO EVADE AND PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE - INSTEAD OF SLOWING, THE ENGINE REVVED. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR SLOWED, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV. I NOTICED A WRENCH WARNING LIGHT IN THE DASH AND CALLED MY DAUGHTER TO HELP ME WITH IT. MY SON-IN-LAW SAID IT WAS A POWERTRAIN FAULT WARNING. I PULLED OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED 10 MINUTES. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF; SO, I CONTINUED MY TRIP HOME RESUMING AND MAINTAINING HIGHWAY SPEED; BUT THE RPMS STAYED @ 3000. AT THE IH-35 EAST-WEST SPLIT, I DECELERATED TO MAKE THE TURN TOWARD DALLAS AND THE ENGINE REVVED TO 5000 RPMS AND STAYED BETWEEN 3K-4K FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. THE GEARS CHANGE REALLY HARD AND THE ENGINE REVS REALLY HIGH UNTIL IT DROPS INTO O/D; BUT RPMS STAY BETWEEN 3-4K. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD IT IS A GEAR-RATIO ISSUE AND I NEED A REBUILT OR NEW TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL. *TR

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FAILURES. THE FAILURES INCLUDED THE LOSS OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM, STABILITY CONTROL, AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE WILL NOT START ,HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER TO BE FIXED COSTING OVER $300.00 AND ON 12/01/2014 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND WAS TOWED IN TO BE FIXED AGAIN COSTING OVER $700.00 AND THE SERVICE MANAGER JUST LAUGHED AND SAID THAT HAPPENS ALOT AND AT LEASED THE FORDS WON'T SHUT OFF LIKE GM ,THEY JUST DON'T START. THE LIFTGATE WINDOW LATCH ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLT HAS SEPARATED FROM THE REAR WINDOW GLASS. THE GLUE JOINT HAS FAILED AND ALLOWED THE LATCH TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE WINDOW. NOW THE WINDOW CANNOT BE CLOSED TIGHTLY AND LOCKED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE EXHAUST GASES MAY BE DRAWN INTO THE CABIN THROUGH THE GAP BETWEEN THE WINDOW AND THE WINDOW SEAL ON THE LIFTGATE. IT IS ALSO A SECURITY ISSUE, SINCE SOMEONE COULD EASILY PRY THE WINDOW OPEN AND ENTER THE VEHICLE CABIN. ORIGINALLY, THE LATCH WAS APPARENTLY GLUED TO THE GLASS AND ALSO IS ATTACHED LOOSELY WITH A SINGLE BOLT TO THE REAR WINDOW WIPER ASSEMBLY. RIGHT NOW, THE SEPARATED LATCH IS FLOPPING AROUND IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE WINDOW CAN BE PULLED OPEN BY ABOUT 1/2 TO 1 INCH. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THIS LATCH ON THIS VEHICLE. THE LATCH IS ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL TO THE SECURITY AND SAFETY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THAT THE NHTSA SHOULD FORCE FORD TO RECALL THEIR VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME INSECURE DEFECTIVE LATCH DESIGN AND REPLACE IT WITH A SECURE DESIGN THAT WILL REMAIN ATTACHED TO THE WINDOW GLASS. *TR
AFTER YEARS (SINCE EARLY ON IN THE OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER) OF INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH MY GAS PEDAL STICKING (MOSTLY IN COLDER WEATHER), THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS BY FAR THE WORST AND, LIKE MANY OTHER 2008 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, I AM VERY LUCKY THAT IT OCCURRED IN AN AREA WHERE I WAS NOT IN IMMEDIATE DANGER FROM OTHER CARS. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO MOVE FORWARD THE PEDAL STARTED TO RESPOND THEN FELL TO THE FLOOR WITH NO FURTHER RESPONSE. THERE WAS NO POWER TO MOVE FORWARD AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. I LIFTED THE PEDAL TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS NOT STUCK ON ANYTHING AND IT JUST FELL LIMPLY BACK TO THE FLOOR. I MANIPULATED THE ARM UNDER THE PEDAL WITH MY HAND UNTIL IT LOOSENED UP AND THE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE AGAIN. I THEN DROVE TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IF MY CAR DOES NOT BECOME PART OF THE "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM," I AM SURE THAT IT WILL NOT BE THE LAST. THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION OF ALLEGED THROTTLE BODY FAILURES IN 2005-2012 FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES SHARING THE SAME OR SUBSTANTIALLY SIMILAR PART, DID NOT RESULT IN ENOUGH VEHICLES BEING INCLUDED IN THE RESULTING FORD "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM," WHICH ONLY INCLUDED CARS FROM 2009-2012, WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED MANY MORE CARS. THE COMPLAINT FORUMS ARE FILLED WITH MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE FROM AT LEAST 2008 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS. TO NOT INCLUDE EVERYONE FROM THE INITIAL INVESTIGATION IS DOING A DISSERVICE AND IT WILL BE SAD DAY WHEN THE REST OF THE CAR OWNERS ARE INCLUDED ONLY BECAUSE SOMEBODY HAS DIED! *TR

IN AUGUST 2014 WITH 99K MILES VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REGULAR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY STEERING PROBLEMS HOWEVER, DURING MAINTENANCE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED SOFTWARE UPDATES TO PSCM AND IC MODULES PER NHTSA RECALL 14-V284000. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS THE VEHICLE BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY LOSING THE POWER STEERING DURING LOWER SPEED TURNING, THE EXACT THING THE RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX. IN AUGUST 2015 AT THE NEXT REGULAR SERVICE APPT I INFORMED DEALERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM AND COPIES OF ON-LINE RESEARCH THAT SHOWED IT AS AN ONGOING PROBLEM RELATED TO THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD DONE THE RECALL "FIXES" AND COULD NOT SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM BUT IF I WANTED THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED THEY WOULD DO IT, FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS, OF WHICH I DECLINED. I HAVE HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS WHEN WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING BECOMES ALMOST LOCKED UP BUT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SO FAR MUSCLE IT AROUND THE TURNS.

"STUCK GAS PEDAL": AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC ON US 127 IN MICHIGAN AT APPROXIMATELY 8 A.M., ON 10 OCTOBER 2014, THE GAS PEDAL FROZE ON MY (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) 2008 FORD ESCAPE AND I BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED QUICKLY FROM THE 70 MPH I HAD BEEN TRAVELING. THE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUSHED OR PULLED AT IT. I TRIED KICKING IT AS BEST AS I COULD BUT IT WOULD NOT BUDGE, AND THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT NEAR THE PEDAL AT ALL. I HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND CONTINUED 'COASTING' WHILE I TRIED TO GET THE PEDAL TO MOVE. THE AREA I WAS AT WAS NOT CONDUCIVE TO A FULL STOP UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY DUE TO THE CLEARANCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CURVE I WAS ON. MY SPEED HAD DROPPED TO LESS THAN 55 MPH WHEN THE GAS PEDAL FINALLY RELEASED AND I WAS ABLE TO PUSH IT DOWN TO INCREASE MY SPEED AGAIN AND EVENTUALLY WORK BACK INTO TRAFFIC, THOUGH WITH CAUTION IN CASE IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS STILL NOT IN AN AREA SAFE FOR A FULL STOP. THE TEMPERATURE AT THAT TIME WAS AROUND FREEZING. I TOOK THE ESCAPE TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID NO CODES APPEARED WHEN SCANNED SO THERE WAS NOTHING TO INDICATE IT HAD HAPPENED. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT NEITHER MY VEHICLE, NOR THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY IN IT ARE LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL FOR "STICKY ACCELERATOR PEDAL" FOR FORD ESCAPES. THIS IS A 2008 MANUAL TRANSMISSION, 4 CY., 4-DOOR, 2WD ESCAPE. WHY WAS IT NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS PEDAL 'CATCHING' AND THEN IMMEDIATELY RELEASING SINCE WE BOUGHT IT (AT ABOUT 16000 MILES), BUT THE DEALER COULD NEVER DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THUS DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE DIAGNOSIS REVEALED CODES P0732 & P0734 - CD4E TRANSMISSION. THE SHOP MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS TRANSMISSION ISSUES IN BOTH GEARS 2 & 4 AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED/RE-BUILT. AN "IDENTIFIX - DIRECT HIT" DOCUMENT WAS PROVIDED SHOWING 60 CONFIRMED FIXES REGARDING TRANSMISSION REPLACE/REBUILDS ON 2008 FORD ESCAPES UNDER THE SAME ISSUE. UPON REVIEW OF THE NHTSA WEBSITE, I AM SEEING MULTIPLE INVESTIGATIONS AND COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME/IDENTICAL ISSUE.
