APPROACHING A STOP SIGN ON A HILL, I HIT A ROUGH PATCH IN THE STREET AND MY BRAKES FAILED TO THE POINT I HAD TO FRANTICALLY PUMP THEM TO NOT ROLL STRAIGHT INTO THE INTERSECTION. FOR THE NEXT THREE OR FOUR DAYS, ANY TIME I BRAKED, THE PEDAL WOULD DEPRESS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR WHILE VERY SLOWLY DECELERATING THE CAR, I OFTEN HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO BUILD SOME PRESSURE IN ORDER TO STOP. CLEARLY AN ABS FAILURE, IT SEEMED TO "FIX ITSELF" AFTER THOSE FEW DAYS. NOW AGAIN, 10/23/2014, HIT A POTHOLE PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKES ARE DOING THE SAME THING. GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND READ ABOUT BROKEN TONE RINGS (SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT LOSS OF ABS), BUT NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WHEN IT HAPPENS. I NEED TO TAKE IT IN, BUT I KNOW THE DEALERSHIP WILL GIVE ME THE RUN-AROUND AND TRY TO CHARGE ME AN ARM AND A LEG FOR SOMETHING THAT'S CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
IN PARKING LOT, POWER STEERING WENT AWAY. RECENTLY HAD DEAD BATTERY, REPLACED BATTERY AND SEEMED TO FIX ISSUE. WEEK LATER, STOPPED AT STOP LIGHT, HEARD CLICK, THEN WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM STOP LIGHT NO POWERING STEERING. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, CALLED SPOUSE, CAME TO PARKING LOT, STARTED CAR AND POWERING STEERING WORKING AGAIN. DROVE CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. I SEE THERE IS A RECALL FOR CERTAIN 2008 ESCAPES, BUT NOT FOR THE ONE WITH THIS VIN. ISSUE SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE RECALL FOR CERTAIN 2008 ESCAPES. WHY NOT HIS ONE? *TR
I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING ABOUT 50,000 MILES. THE POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND THEN "SNAP" BACK AND WORK. I CALLED THE DEALER 4 TIMES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND YOU COULD TELL THEY WANTED NO PART OF IT. BUT, SAID I COULD BRING IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY COULD RECOMMEND REPAIRS. AFTER A YEAR OF PROBLEMS, FORD FINALLY "RE-CALLED" FOR THIS PROBLEM. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL "FIX". THEY SAID IT WAS JUST A SOFTWARE UPDATE. WELL, ABOUT A MONTH OR SO LATER, I STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, EXCEPT WOULD MAKE A LOUD SCREECH NOISE BEFORE IT HAPPENED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NEED FORD CORPORATION TO APPROVE ANY REPAIRS, SO I CALLED FORD CORPORATION AND WAS TALKED TO LIKE A "DOG" BY A VERY CONDESCENDING CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON. SHE WAS DOWN RIGHT RUDE. WELL, NOW I JUST WENT FOR A SHORT RIDE TO THE GROCERY STORE AND MY POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT COMPLETELY - "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE". CAN ANYBODY HELP ME OUT THERE? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AT THIS TIME AND THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. IT'S PRETTY BAD WHEN YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR VEHICLE AND STILL HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
AS I WAS EXITING A RAMP, THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING COMPLETELY. .FORCING ME TO PULL OVER, AS I CONTINUE ON IT DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN GAS IS PUSHED COMPLETELY DOWN. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON BUT LEAVES WHEN CAR IS OFF. DRIVING APROX. 3 BLOCKS BEFORE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN... *TR

THE TRANSMISSION JERKED WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND THE WRENCH WARNING DISPLAY ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WHEN BRAKING THE VEHICLE LOSES REGENERATIVE BRAKING AND REVERTS TO FAIL SAFE MODE. MOST NOTABLY THIS OCCURS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN/LIGHT. BRAKES APPEAR TO FUNCTION NORMALLY, HOWEVER AT THE END OF A BRAKING CYCLE THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER TO THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE STABILITY CONTROL DASH LIGHT QUICKLY FLASHES ON AND THEN OFF. ALSO, THE GAUGE THAT SHOWS POWER BEING TRANSFERRED TO THE BATTERY STOPS CHARGING THE BATTERY AND RETURNS TO THE NORMAL POSITION POINTING STRAIGHT UP. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE AFTER THIS OCCURRENCE AND NO WARNING LIGHTS OR AFTER EFFECTS ARE KNOWN. IT MAY HAPPEN AT ONE STOP LIGHT AND NOT THE NEXT. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. SOMETIMES IT MAY DO THIS 2 OR 3 TIMES WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC FOR 30 MINUTES OR IT MAY NOT HAPPEN AT ALL. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS DUE TO A FAULTY HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THIS IS A COMPONENT FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN, NOT DUE TO DRIVER-INDUCED DAMAGE OR WEAR. *TR
THE CONDENSER IS COMBINED WITH POWER STEERING AND TRANSMISSION. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT OF HAD A LEAK AS IT ONLY HAS 28311 MILES ON IT. THIS IS BAD FOR GROUND WATER AS FLUID LEAKS GOES ON STREET AND INTO STORM DRAINS. COST TO FIX IS ABOUT $700.00. *TR
ENGINE DIED MULTIPLE TIMES IN A PARKING LOT. CAR HAD BEEN IDLING AND HAD RECENTLY BEEN DRIVEN OVER THIRTY MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS OVER 90 DEG F. HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME BECAUSE THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND NO DTC FOUND IN ECM. PAID THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TIME AND PICKED UP UP THE CAR. ONE WEEK LATER, THE CAR DIED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 10-20 MPH. DASHBOARD DISPLAY SAID TO PULL OVER AND PARK SAFELY. AFTER WAITING FOR 30 MINUTES FOR THE ENGINE TO COOL, WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE THE THREE MILES HOME. THE NEXT DAY AT THE DEALER, NO DTC FOUND IN THE ECM, BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT THE SYMPTOMS POINTED TO A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECALIBRATE THE THROTTLE BODY, SO THEY ASKED US TO APPROVE PAYING FOR A THROTTLE BODY CLEANING, WHICH WE DID. THIS SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT THE HYBRID SYSTEM DIRECTS THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF WHENEVER IT DETECTS A SENSOR PROBLEM THAT IT CAN NOT RESOLVE. MOST CARS WOULD PRODUCE A CEL ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AND SET A LIMP HOME MODE. THE ESCAPE HYBRID SEEMS TO JUST SHUT OFF AND LET YOU HOPE FOR THE BEST. THIS MAY SEEM LIKE AN IRRATIONAL RESPONSE TO A MODEST PROBLEM, BUT THESE WERE THE SAME THINGS THAT HAPPENED BEFORE WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A PUMP PROBLEM FOR THE ELECTRONICS, WHICH IS NOW A SAFETY RECALL FOR 2005-2008 ESCAPE HYBRIDS. TO COMPOUND THE PROBLEM, THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER TO REFUND OUR PREVIOUS PAYMENT FOR THE PUMP REPLACEMENT. I HAD TO ASK FOR IT AND AM NOW WAITING FOR THEM TO GIVE ME A REFUND, EVEN THOUGH THE FORD WEBSITE CLEARLY STATES THAT THEY SHOULD EXPEDITE REFUNDS FOR PRIOR WORK DONE ONCE A RECALL IS STARTED. UNHAPPY ON MULTIPLE LEVELS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, AFTER THE REPAIRS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING ASSIST PROGRAM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AS I WOULD TAKE OFF THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO JERK REALLY HARD WHEN SWITCHING GEARS AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON.I HAD SOMEONE RUN A TEST AND IT SAID IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION AND AFTER RESEARCHING MY FRIEND FOUND A RECALL ON THIS AND READ SEVERAL OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
THE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. LATEST WAS 2 DAYS AGO. WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR ACCELERATION ALL OF A SUDDEN DROPS TO ZERO AND THE CAR WILL NOT GO. IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF BUT IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN. AFTER ABOUT 2 OR 3 MINUTES A MESSAGE COMES ON THE DASH THAT SAYS "IT IS SAFE TO SHUT OFF YOUR VEHICLE NOW." ONCE THE VEHICLE IS SHUT OFF AND I WAIT ABOUT 5 MINUTES I CAN START IT AGAIN. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THERE IS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT BECAUSE THERE ISN'T A YELLOW TRIANGLE WARNING ON MY DASH FORD AND THE DEALER WILL NOT DO THE RECALL BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS. SO I HAVE TO DRIVE AN UNSAFE CAR UNTIL THERE ARE PARTS AVAILABLE ALL BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A CODE. DEALER CLAIMS THERE IS A GROUND FAULT WIRE PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO DO THE RECALL. THIS IS REALLY UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP ON ME. THEY KNOW IT'S A PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE BUT WON'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS EVEN THOUGH RECALL LETTERS CAME OUT IN OCTOBER. IT'S NOW JANUARY. *TR
THE GAS PEDDLE STICKING AND AFFECTING BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND THEREFORE TO DRIVE SAFE. TOOK IT IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND IT IS A $500 + REPAIR TO FIX THE THROTTLE BODY. LOTS OF OTHER FORD ESCAPES ARE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM PER RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD FOR NOT HAVING A RECALL TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. I CAN CONTINUE TO DRIVE WITH THIS ISSUE BUT DECIDED TO PAY THE $500 TO MAKE IT WORK CORRECTLY AND NOT PUT MYSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
MY WIFE LEFT OUR HOUSE TO RUN ERRANDS IN OUR 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. SHE DIDN'T EVEN GET OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD BEFORE SHE GOT THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING, AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP HOME MODE". SHE TURNED AROUND IN A NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY AND CAME BACK HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY THINKING THAT IT MIGHT BE THE MECS PUMP FOR WHICH THERE IS A RECENT RECALL. IT TURNS OUT THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY CAUSING THE WARNING. EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A NHTSA INVESTIGATION ON THE THROTTLE BODIES OF THESE VEHICLES (DP12006), THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN FORD CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM #13N03, WHICH EXTENDS THE WARRANTY OF THE THROTTLE BODY ON SOME ESCAPE MODELS (AMONG OTHER VEHICLES). SO, I NOW HAVE TO SPEND $775.00 TO REPLACE A PART THAT WAS KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES. LUCKILY, MY WIFE WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH OUR 2-MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I DON'T QUITE UNDERSTAND HOW ESCAPES FROM 2005 TO 2012 WERE PART OF THE INVESTIGATION, BUT THE PRELIMINARY EVALUATION PE13-003 ONLY APPLIES TO 2009 - 2012 MODELS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AND FELT THAT THE RECALL REMEDY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW DROPPED SUDDENLY AND WOULD NOT COME BACK UP. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED TO A BACK WINDOW, THEN NEXT THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW. THIS HAS ALSO OCCURRED TO TWO OTHER FORD VEHICLES - MY BROTHER'S TRUCK, AND A FRIENDS TRUCK. THESE ARE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS, VERY INCONVENIENT, ESPECIALLY IF RAINING --- AND CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN LIVING IN A LARGE CITY WITH HIGH CRIME.

IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS 3 OF THE 4 ELECTRIC WINDOWS IN MY WIFE'S FORD ESCAPE HAVE FALLEN INTO THE DOOR DUE TO THE REGULATORS FAILING. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A RECALL FOR THIS EQUIPMENT PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CALLED. IN 2 OF THE INCIDENTS, THE WINDOWS FELL WHILE BEING PARKED IN A BUSINESS PARKING LOT WHICH COULD'VE MADE THE VEHICLE OPEN TO THEFT. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY RECALIBRATED THE TORQUE SENSOR, BUT DID NOT REPLACE IT BECAUSE NO FAULT CODE WAS FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOUR DAYS LATER BECAUSE A FAULT CODE APPEARED. THE POWER STEERING SENSOR ILLUMINATED, BUT THE DEALER FAILED TO REMEDY THE RECALL ONCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,068.

THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD ONLY UPDATE THE SOFTWARE AND COULD NOT REPLACE THE PSCM. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THEY STATED THAT THE PSCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE PART COULD NOT BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WHEN A LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. IT STATED POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT. MY STEERING WAS OK AT THE TIME. THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY STREET. I STRUGGLED TO TURN THE WHEEL ONTO MY STREET AND INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I TOOK MY CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE TORQUE SENSOR. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS WAS A RECALL IN MAY, 2014. THE RECALL WAS STOPPED. I DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE ABOUT THIS. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT AROUND 100,000 MILES AND THE TORQUE SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY OR GOING VERY FAST WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. *TR
THE ABS BRAKING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES LOCKED. WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME, HOWEVER, AFTER INSPECTION BY THE GARAGE WE FOUND THE HCU WAS DEFECTIVE AS WELL AS THE MASTER CYLINDER. TOTAL EXPENSE TO REPLACE WAS $7,000, THE CAR IS ONLY WORTH 6,000

I WAS ALSO RECEIVING A MESSAGE ADVISING THE REGEN BRAKES WERE INACTIVE & TO CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC AND FOLLOWING HIS CHECK HE ADVISED THE HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM & DUE TO THE HYBRID NATURE OF THE VEHICLE, HE WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I THEN CAREFULLY DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY. I WAS JUST INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE HCU ON THE VEHICLE HAD GONE BAD AND REPAIRS WERE GOING TO BE $5,000. AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE, THIS IS AN EXTRAVAGANT AMOUNT OF MONEY TO HAVE TO PUT INTO A SEVEN YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT ONLY COST $34,000 BRAND NEW. THE PART ALONE IS $4,000 ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. I AM NOW FORCED TO EITHER HAVE THIS REPAIR DONE OR TRADE THE VEHICLE IN ON ANOTHER FORD. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CURRENT VEHICLE, I AM NOT OVERJOYED AT THE PROSPECT OF OWNING ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT. I RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF CASES WHERE THIS PART HAS GONE BAD AND I FEEL IT IS TIME THESE VEHICLES GET RECALLED BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED. "WHEN THE HYBRID ELECTRONICS SYSTEM GETS TOO HOT IT WILL SHUT DOWN THE POWERTRAIN, RESULTING IN A STALL-LIKE CONDITION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH," ACCORDING TO FORD'S FILING WITH NHTSA. THERE WERE MULTIPLE FAILURES BETWEEN MAY 2014 TO DECEMBER 2014. THIS PROMPTED ME TO DO SOME RESEARCH INTO THE ISSUE. I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A FACTORY RECALL (14S05) THAT DEALT WITH THE FAULTY SOFTWARE/HARDWARE. ON FRIDAY 12/05/2014, IN THE AM, BROUGHT 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLS, TO THE KEN GARFF FORD IN AMERICAN FORK FOR THEM TO PERFORM THE NECESSARY ACTION TO RESOLVE FORD ESCAPE RECALL 14S05. I DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE AND ASSUMING THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD TAKE ALL THE NECESSARY ACTIONS TO FULLY COMPLETE THE WORK CALLED FOR IN THE RECALL. MY WIFE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE THAT EVENING AND WE ASSUMED THAT ALL STEPS IN THE RECALL WERE COMPLETED. ON THURSDAY 12/11/2014, IN THE AM, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE TWICE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WE RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THAT DATE (12/11/2014). THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY, FRIDAY 12/12/2014. ON THAT DATE, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE STEERING COLUMN PARTS WERE NOT REPLACED AND THAT ALL THE DID WAS PERFORM A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I ASKED THEM WHY THEY HAD NOT REPLACED PART THAT WAS CALLED FOR IN THE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THEY CHECKED THAT THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES RECORDED. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT HAD JUST FAILED THE PREVIOUS WEEK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN PER THE RECALL AS THEY HAD FULFILLED THEIR OBLIGATION THE PREVIOUS WEEK AND THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAD DEEMED THE RECALL AS COMPLETED. I AM WRITING THIS LETTER AS IT IS MY BELIEF THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND KEN GARFF FORD IN AMERICAN FORK DID NOT PROPERLY EXECUTE THIS RECALL AND THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR TO MAKE MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

I WAS STOPPED AT A SIGNAL. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE AS NORMAL. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND A RECALL FOR THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY, BUT WAS TOLD BY ANDY MOHR, THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY TO MY SPECIFIC BUILD. I THEN CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE AND OPENED A CLAIM WITH THEM, I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT ( BECAUSE IT'S A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND A SAFETY ISSUE )AND WAS REFERRED BACK TO ANDY MOHR THIS TIME I SPOKE WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER AND TOLD THE SANE THING, THAT BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A WARRANTY,, THE REPAIR ISN'T COVETED AND I'M THEREFORE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. A WARNING CAME ON LETTING US KNOW THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AS THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HAD TO BE PULLED UP AND DEPRESSED AGAIN TO FULLY STOP VEHICLE. WE WERE FORTUNATELY ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM THE DEALER AND WERE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR IN. WE ARE WAITING FOR THE FULL DIAGNOSIS. THE INITIAL REPORT WAS THAT THE HCU FAILED AND THE DEALER IS TRYING TO DETERMINE IF ANOTHER PART IS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ISSUE. THEY WANT TO BE SURE THAT THE HCU IS IN FACT THE ISSUE BEFORE THEY REPLACE A $5,000 PART UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 FORD ESCAPE WHICH WAS PAID OFF LAST JANUARY WILL RIGHT AFTER IT GOT PAID OFF MY TRANSMISSION WENT WHICH COST ME 3320 NOW A YEAR LATER I AM HAVING STEERING PROBLEMS STARTED WITH A CLUNKING NOISE WILL TURNING GREASED JOINTS PROBLEM WAS FINE FOR A WHILE NOW AGAIN TODAY I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO A BRIDGE AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT FOR A SECOND BUT CAME BACK THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS RECEIVED THE FORD RECALL FOR THE TORQUE SENSOR WHICH I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER THEY DID NOT REPLACE ANY PART AND AT THE TIME I TOLD THE DEALER SHIP I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE STEERING HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE SAID HE WOULD LOOK AT IT BUT I WAS ONLY THERE ABOUT 20 MINUTES WHICH WASN'T LONG ENOUGH TO CHANGE ANY PART OR DO ANY TYPE OF REPAIR PLEASE I AM NOT STUPID I READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE THIS IS VERY UPSETTING IS FORD GOING TO WAIT TILL SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED AND WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE THE CASE ARE OUR LIVES NOT AS VALUABLE TO YOU AS THE ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR. MECS COOLANT PUMP DEFECT CAUSES LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS RESULTING IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION. FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT IN THIS "HYBRID UNIQUE" COMPONENT BUT REFUSES TO COVER IT UNDER THEIR HYBRID COMPONENT WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY WOULDN'T DRIVE. I PRESSED THE GAS, BUT IT WOULDN'T GO. I LIMPED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS SEEMS LIKE AN INCREDIBLE HAZARD - ONE THAT FORD SHOULD FIX! I CAN TELL YOU THIS, I WILL GET THE CAR FIXED TO WHERE IT CAN BE DRIVEN, BUT I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN.
