WHEN START THE VEHICLE I HAD NO POWER STEERING. GOT TO A FRIEND HOUSE WHO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. AFTER TURN IT ON/OFF POWER STEERING CAME BACK. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. OIL CHANGE LIGHT AND LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON A WEEK LATER. HAD MAINTENANCE DONE A WEEK LATER. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT ANY RECALLS. NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REALLY LOOSE AFTER ROTATE AND BALANCE WAS DONE. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED ISSUE WITH STEERING. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT MAY NEED ALIGNMENT BUT COULD NOT DO SERVICE UNTIL NEXT WEEK. PUT GAS IN CAR AND VEHICLE STALLED. BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER A FEW MORE TIMES WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED. STALLED AGAIN STALLED AGAIN AT STOP LIGHT. MADE IT TO AUTO PARTS SHOP AND PUT FUEL INJECTION FLUID IN TANK. CAR STALLED. FINALLY STARTED AGAIN. MADE IT TO REPAIR SHOP. DID DIAGNOSTIC TESTS NO CODES REPORTED. THEY EXAMINED THE FUEL AND IT WAS GOOD. THEY GUESSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MAY NEED REPLACING. I RESEARCHED RECALLS ON MY VIN AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE 2 RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE THAT WERE NEVER PERFORMED. PURCHASED VEHICLE IN MAY. NEVER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICES. REPAIR SHOPS AND DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT CHECKING FOR RECALLS WHEN DIAGNOSING PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE LIFTGATE, THE DRIVER SIDE HINGE TO THE LIFTGATE WINDOW FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE LIFTGATE WINDOW WAS ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE BY ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE HINGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
I HAD THE RECENT STEERING RECALL DONE, NEVER HAD AN ISSUE. WAS OUT OF TOWN AND THEN STARTED THE CAR AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. IN LESS THAN A WEEK NOW WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN THE CAR HAS CUTOFF ONCE AND THE NEXT DAY HAD NO PICKUP AFTER MAKING A TURN. I DO NOT KNOW IF ITS RELATED TO THE PAST RECALLS ON THE THROTTLE BODY OR NOT. *TR
PREMATURE RUST ABOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS CAR AND HAVE WAXED IT ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE BUT YET THE RUST HAS BECOME A PROBLEM DUE TO A MANUFACTURING/DESIGN DEFECT. (WHITE FORD ESCAPE). *TR
AT 35 MPH AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON, ENGINE STARTED SPUTTERING AND DID NOT RESPOND TO PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL. IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING ALTOGETHER. I TURNED OFF IGNITION KEY AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TRIED RESTARTING THE ENGINE. IT RESTARTED AND RAN PROPERLY AFTERWARDS. CALLED LOCAL FORD DEALER AND DESCRIBED PROBLEM AND THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY - ABOUT AN $800 REPAIR. WENT ON LINE TO RESEARCH PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YET FORD HAS DONE AND IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. MY '09 ESCAPE HAS ONLY A LITTLE OVER 36,000 MILES ON IT. LUCKILY I WASN'T PULLING OUT INTO OR DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THIS THING WENT OUT. I HOPE FORD DOESN'T WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE BEFORE THEY CORRECT & RECALL VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM. FORD SAYS YOU HAVE ENOUGH "POWER" LEFT TO GET OVER TO SAFETY BUT YOU REALLY DON'T. *TR
THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY SHORTED OUT INTERNALLY,SCAN HAD CODE P2112. ENGINE HAD NO POWER IT STAYED AT IDLE WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN TO 2 MPH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MERGED TO AN EMERGENCY LANE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TURN OFF AND AFTER RESTARTING IT RESUME NORMAL FUNCTION. ALSO, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SLOWLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM NOTIFICATION RELATED TO THE FAILURE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXHIBITING. HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO PROVIDE THE REPAIRS LISTED SINCE THE FAILURE CODE DID NOT SHOW DURING THE DIAGNOSIS. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO HONOR THE CAMPAIGN UNLESS THE CODES WERE AVAILABLE DURING THE DIAGNOSIS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SAFETY BELT FAILED TO RETRACT CAUSING THE CONTACT TO HIT HER CHEST AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE CRASH, THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFT INTO THE PARK POSITION AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO PUT WOODEN BLOCKS AROUND THE TIRES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION AND CONTUSIONS TO THE SPINE, NECK, SHOULDER AND KNEES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE ON THE NJ TURNPIKE GOING ABOUT 70 MPH WITH NO WARNING. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER A WEEK NOW, AND FORD HAS NOT SENT THE PART TO THE DEALER'S REPAIR SHOP WHERE I TOOK THE CAR. I CANNOT GET AN ANSWER OUT OF THE SHOP OR OUT OF FORD. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD LAST WEEK, BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SINCE - THEY PROMISED TO EXPEDITE THE CASE, BUT THEY'VE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THERE IS A TRACKING NUMBER ON THE PART, BUT IT HAS NOT ARRIVED, NOR HAS ANYONE ATTEMPTED TO GET A REPLACEMENT FOR THE FIRST MISSING PART. I WAS GIVEN A LOANER CAR - A 1999 MERCURY SABLE WITH 130K MILES - WHICH IS VERY SKETCHY. AFTER THE INCIDENT, I LEARNED, VIA MY IPHONE, THAT THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE AND THAT TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON WOULD TEMPORARILY FIX THE PROBLEM, WHICH I DID. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD! *TR
MY VEHICLE STALLED AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP FROM NORMAL DRIVING SPEEDS. IT CONTINUED TO DRIVE AT ABOUT 5MPH AND THEN THE LITTLE GREEN WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN TURNED OFF AND RE-STARTED, THE CAR RAN FINE FOR THE TRIP HOME. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR; SOMETIMES IT WON'T HAPPEN FOR A WEEK OR SO, SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. I BELIEVE IT TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE IT UNDER CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 BECAUSE THE COMPUTER READS NO ERROR CODE. THEY, INSTEAD, SUGGEST IT MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION... BUT THESE ARE NOT TYPICAL 'SYMPTOMS' FOR A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS EXACT PROBLEM WHEN A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY IS PRESENT. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HOPE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED ASAP AS IT WILL HAPPEN REGARDLESS OF WHETHER I AM GOING 10, 40, OR 70MPH AND IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AS PART OF A MANUFACTURER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
FIRST SIGN OF PROBLEM OCCURRED IN AUGUST 2014 WHEN I PUT KEYS IN IGNITION IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO START CAR. IT WAS LOCKED, OR FROZEN UP. I TRIED TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL BUT COULD BARELY MOVE IT. AFTER ABOUT 5 TO 7 MINUTES OF TRYING TO TURN WHEEL, IT UNLOCKED AND I WAS ABLE TO START VEHICLE. NEXT PROBLEM OCCURRED IN EARLY SEPTEMBER WHEN TURNING WHEEL TO BACK INTO PARKING SPACE, IT FROZE UP AND LOCKED. I SLOWLY TURNED WHEEL UNTIL IT KIND OF UNLOCKED. THE NEXT TIME THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE WAS IN LATE SEPTEMBER. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, I LOST MY POWER STEERING BRIEFLY. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND PARKED FOR A MINUTE OR TWO BEFORE STARTING BACK ON THE DRIVE HOME. IT WAS UNNERVING TO FEEL LIKE I HAD NO POWER OVER THE CAR. AS OF YESTERDAY, OCTOBER 4TH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES WHEN VEHICLE IS IDLE. I CAME HOME FROM WORK, PARKED IT AND HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE. *TR
I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL (14S05) EFFECTIVE JULY 25, 2014. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL SATISFIED IN AUGUST IN WHICH I BELIEVE CONSISTED OF A CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATE. UNTIL THIS SERVICE WE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING. SHORTLY AFTER THE SERVICE MY DAUGHTER STARTED HAVING THE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY GOING OUT. BECAUSE SHE IS A COLLEGE STUDENT, I LOCATED THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER TO HER LOCATION WHICH IS DON REID FORD IN MAITLAND, FL. I TOOK IT TO THEM SPECIFICALLY TO ADDRESS THE RECALL FAILURE. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT DON REID SAID THAT THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN CLOSED OUT AND ANY ADDITIONAL WORK WOULD BE AT REGULAR CHARGE. THEN HE SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE STEERING COLUMN AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD LIKE TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND EITHER RESCHEDULE THE REPAIR OR EVEN HAVE MY DAUGHTER DRIVE IT TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER FOR THE WORK AND TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT THE SOFTWARE PATCH DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. HIS COMMENT WAS THAT "THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MATTER AND WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE DRIVE THE VEHICLE". I DECIDED IT WAS IN OUR BEST INTEREST TO HAVE THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AND TO ADDRESS THE RECALL ISSUE AFTER. THE REPAIR WAS $1,000. FORD REFUSES TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE EXPENSES. NOW SOMETIMES WHEN MY DAUGHTER TRIES TO START THE CAR BY TURNING THE KEY NOTHING HAPPENS. SHE REMOVES THE KEY, REINSERTS IT AND IT WILL WORK. I HAVE CALLED AND SPOKEN TO SEVERAL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS WHO BASICALLY AGREE WITH MY ASSESSMENT THAT THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT BE INCLUDED IN THE REMEDY FOR THE STEERING FAILURE. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER WOULD HAVE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH THE REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER AND SUBMIT THE REPAIR AS THE RECALL. *TR
ESCAPE WENT INTO LIMP MODE 4 TIMES WITHIN THE PAST FEW MONTHS- CURRENTLY HAS A FIELD SERVICE ACTION NUMBER FOR THIS PROBLEM 13N03, BUT FORD HAS SET SUCH LIMITS.... DEALER MUST BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT, BUT WITH THIS POWER LOSS - IT HAPPENS WHEN IT HAPPENS. FORD DOES NOT WANT TO COVER REPAIR UNTIL THAT TIME. SO, I HAVE AN ESCAPE THE STALLS... WHEN AND WERE IT WANTS, CURRENTLY CAR AT THE DEALER.... NEVER RECEIVED LETTER FROM FORD.... *TR
MY VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER AND POWERED OFF VEHICLE AND POWERED IT BACK ON (HAD SLIGHT TROUBLE TURNING OVER) CONTINUED ON MY WAY, THE VEHICLE ENDED UP LOOSING ACCELERATION THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVING HOME, WAS ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY DOING 55MPG AT ONE POINT WHEN ALL ACCELERATION WAS LOST AGAIN. WHEN I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO FORD THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM, THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT WHY WASN'T THIS A MANDATORY RECALL WHEN ACCIDENTS COULD HAVE OCCURRED FROM LOSS OF ACCELERATION. *TR
VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOOSES POWER AND IDLES HARD. REPEATEDLY OVER THE PAST MONTH WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP VEHICLE WILL LOOSE ALL ENGINE POWER. THE VEHICLE WILL STILL MOVE FORWARD AS IF IT WAS IN GEAR WITHOUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS/BRAKE. I WAS ALMOST T-BONED WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE SUDDENLY I HAD NO POWER. I HAVE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF THEN START THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND IT WILL WORK JUST FINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON ONCE THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER BUT ONCE YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON IT IS GONE. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN LIGHT. HAD COMPUTER READ. SHOWING A P2119 CODE/THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL. NOTE: VEHICLE WAS IN FORD DEALER ON 24 JULY 2014 DUE TO RECALL ISSUED ON PCM. *TR
THE REAR GLASS HATCH HINGES HAVE COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED AND MY REAR WINDOW IS READY TO FALL OFF. FORD HAS BASICALLY TOLD ME TO SUCK IT UP AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THIS HAS BEEN A CLEAR ISSUE ON FORD SUVS DATING BACK TO AT LEAST 2002. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. I AM BEING FORCED TO PAY $260 FOR PARTS AND THEN WHATEVER LABOR MIGHT BE WHEN MY WINDOW IS READY TO COME CRASHING OUT. *TR
2009 FORD ESCAPE HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH RUST FROM THE UNDERBODY AND APPEARS THRU TO THE PAINTED SURFACE, IT CAN ALSO LEAD TO RUST TO THE SHOCK AND UNDER THE UNDERCOATING OF THE VEHICLE. IT WILL LEAD TO ISSUES THAT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS . FORD WILL DO NOTHING TO FIX THE KNOWN ISSUE AND IT IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM THAT HAS EFFECTED SO MANY VEHICLES. HOPING THIS WILL HELP.
ON JULY 31ST, MY CAR WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, A MINUTE AFTER I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL, MY CAR STALLED (A LIGHT WRENCH ON THE DASHBOARD APPEARED) -IT WOULD MOVE MAYBE 1 MPH BUT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE ON THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER A MOMENT, THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING ...I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT BACK ON, EVERYTHING WAS FINE, THE LIGHT WRENCH DISAPPEARED. AFTER 45 MINUTES LATER, ON THE ROAD, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND I HAD TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS FROM HAPPENING. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH CARMAX LESS THAN A WEEK LATER (BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, HAD IT FOR A YEAR). I WAS ADVISED TO COME BACK IF THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENED SINCE JULY 31ST AND THEY DIDN'T WANT ME TO WASTE MY MONEY IF THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING. SINCE THAT APPOINTMENT, THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES DURING THE WEEK OF AUGUST 3RD-9TH. ON AUG 16TH, THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ALONG WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT, WENT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE MENTIONED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS CONFIRMED TODAY (AUG. 18TH) WHEN I WENT TO AN UNSCHEDULED APPOINTMENT AT CARMAX (EVEN ON MY WAY THERE, THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON) THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THROTTLE STOPPED WORKING AND SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT IT OFF AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN. IT WORKED FOR SEVERAL MILES BEFORE HAPPENING AGAIN. *JS NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CHANGED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AT NO CHARGE. THE FIRST SET OF INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITH MY 7 MONTH OLD IN THE CAR, SO IT WAS SCARY AND DANGEROUS. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR/MODEL.
AFTER FILL-UP, ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. FIRST INSTANCE HAPPENED WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND RESULTED IN NEAR ACCIDENT. THE ENGINE HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL ADDITIONAL TIMES BUT NOT FOR LONG ENOUGH TO SET THE TROUBLE CODE OR LIGHT. THIS RESULTED IN A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION AND ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS POTENTIAL DEFECT NEED TO BE RECALLED. TOOK TO THE FORD DEALER ON 7/28/14 AND THEY ADVISED ME THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS THE TROUBLE CODES WERE STORED IN THE PCM. ENGINE STARTED IN PARKING LOT WITH A VERY ROUGH IDLE. I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A FUEL ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR STARTED BUT DIES IMMEDIATELY AFTER GIVING GAS TO THE PEDAL. THE 2009 FORD ESCAPE WAS TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE REPORTED IT HAS A SEIZED ENGINE ON THE EXHAUST VAVLE #1 CYLINDER. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A NEW FORD ENGINE REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED THIS IS RELATED TO THE GAS THROTTLE RECALL AS THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE AND WITH LOW MILES AND OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES IT JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP COST FOR A NEW ENGINE IS $7000. YOU WOULD HOPE FORD COULD STAND BY THEIR RECALL PRODUCT, BUT THEY SAID NO WARRANTY ON POWERTRAIN. THERE IS A KNOWN THROTTLE BODY ISSUE WITH THE FORD ESCAPE 2009, WHERE THE TRUCK GOES INTO "LIMP MODE" INDICATED BY AN ILLUMINATED WRENCH. I HAD JUST TAKEN IT IN FOR THIS ISSUE, FORD ONLY DID THE RECALIBRATION AND DID NOT REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. THE NEXT DAY WHILE IN THE PARKING LOT AT MY WORK, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO "WRENCH MODE" OR "ENHANCED LIMP MODE (SINCE THE RECALIBRATION)" AND LURCHED INTO A CEMENT PILLAR CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. DAMAGE WAS ~$5K, RENTAL CAR $500, DEDUCTIBLE $100, HIGHER INSURANCE, STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE (PERMANENT LOSS OF VALUE). *TR

FORD CLAIMS THEY HAVE A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM (13N03) TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT CUSTOMERS WHO COME INTO DEALERSHIPS WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMED TO PROTECT THE THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS SO DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT MY ARM MUSCLES WERE SORE. LOOKING AT SOME ONLINE FORUMS, THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE AN ISOLATED FAILURE TO OUR VEHICLE.
