I SHUT CAR OFF AND RESTART AND PROCEED TO DRIVE AGAIN AND IT HAPPENS A 2ND TIME. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING IN THESE MODELS AND I THINK SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT! *TR
VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, WOULD MISS FIRE AND STOP RUNNING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE CONTACT, WHO FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,217.
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HAD NO PEDAL THEN THE WRENCH CAME ON THE DASHBOARD HAD TO GET OVER 2 LANES TO SIDE OF ROAD TURNED CAR MOTOR OFF THEN TURNED BACK ON WAS OK FOR A WHILE THEN HAPPENED AGAIN MY WIFE AND I COULD VERY EASILY OF BEEN KILLED SEE WHERE PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM CANT BELIEVE FORD HASN'T RE-CALLED THIS WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND CAR STARTED TO JERK AND I STARTED TO LOSE SPEED EVEN THOUGH I WAS STEPPING ON THE GAS NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY TO SHOULDER AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK WHILE THE CAR WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND TURN IT OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND WITH HESITATION IT STARTED BACK UP AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE HOME.. HAPPENED A SECOND TIME THE VERY NEXT DAY ONLY DOING 25 AND A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND AGAIN NO GAS OR SPEED FROM THE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO SHUT IT OFF RESTART AND CONTINUE HOME.. VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY MOTHERS 2010 FORD ESCAPE, IT SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND CAME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY ABLE TO CREEP ALONG, BARELY ALLOWING ME TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME, OTHERWISE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE AS I SAID, IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM 35MPH DOWN TO 2 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH, INDICATING A "THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN" ISSUE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT AND IT RAN FINE, HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED MY MOTHER AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HER ON 3 PREVIOUS OCCASIONS, ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I HAD THE CODES CHECKED, AND THAT INDICATED "THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL (TAC) SYSTEM - ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN". I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE IT IS TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I FOUND RECALLS FROM FORD FOR THROTTLE ISSUES, BUT NOT THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, APPARENTLY THEY DON'T CONSIDER IT A SAFETY ISSUE. WELL LET ME TELL YOU, IT ABSOLUTELY IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF I HAD BEEN OUT ON THE MAIN ROAD DOING 55 AND THIS HAPPENED WITH SOMEONE BEHIND ME, THEY WOULD HAVE SLAMMED RIGHT INTO ME BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING. I'M REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BUT FORD REALLY NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL, IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT, IT'S NOT JUST COINCIDENCE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY PEOPLE, THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
CAR THROTTLE ALMOST STALLS TO ROUGH IDLE , SPUTTERS BUT CANNOT GIVE IT GAS OR REV ENGINE WRENCH SYMBOL LIGHTS UP YOU MUST TURN OFF CAR TO RESTART AFTER ABOUT 10 TIMES AND IT HAPPENING EVERY MILE OR SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND STAYS ON EVEN AFTER RESTARTING. THIS WILL HAPPEN OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED BUT IDLES JUST ENOUGH TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY ! RESTART AND DRIVE A MIKE AND EITHER JUST IDLING OR ACCELERATING IT JUST QUITS GOING . I CALLED TAYLOR FORD AND WAS TOLD I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT NEED THROTTLE BODY AND APPROX $450 ! SO THEY TOO KNOW IT'S AN ISSUE! *TR
BEGAN AT IDLE AT STOP LIGHT/SIGN; RPMS GO UP/DOWN THEN STALL. THEN WHILE DRIVING APPROX 45 MPH, CAR DOES A "THUD", DOESN'T STALL, BUT GAS PEDDLE NO LONGER WORKS, YOU CAN PUSH IT TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING. I TURNED ON MY FLASHERS, COASTED OFF SIDE OF ROAD AND STOPPED. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. 2ND TIME, WHILE GOING THREW A HUGE, BUSY INTERSECTION AT RUSH HOUR, CAR STARTED JERKING, GAS PEDDLE QUIT WORKING, ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED, WHOLE FAMILY WAS WITH ME; ROLLED OFF SIDE OF ROAD, TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. WHEN TURNING KEY ON IT WOULD MAKE THE REPEATED START SOUND BEFORE IT ACTUALLY STARTED. WHEN THE "THUD" HAPPENS THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ELIMINATES ON MY DASH, BUT ONCE I SHUT OFF KEY AND RESTART, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT GOES AWAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A "CANISTER PURGE VALVE" THAT NEEDED REPLACING AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $390 TO FIX. I PAID THEM THE $92 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND MY HUSBAND PAID $42 FOR THE PART AND REPLACED IT HIMSELF. ONLY MY PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AS THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM AT ALL. I CALLED FORD BACK TODAY EXPLAINING IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN TODAY WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT 15 MPH AND THEY THEN GUESSED IT WAS THE "THROTTLE BODY" AND I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW! MY FRIEND WITH SAME YR, MAKE AND MODEL OF ESCAPE WAS ON THE HWY AND IT HAPPENED LAST WEEK; SHE ALMOST GOT HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK!! *LN *TR
DRIVING HOME FROM A DAY TRIP W/ FRIENDS AND WHEN APPROACHING LIGHT, CAR STARTED BUCKING. WHEN THE GAS PETAL WAS PUSHED DOWN, THE VEHICLE ONLY WENT 20 MPH AND WAS QUICKLY DROPPING SPEED. THE RED WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASH. WE PULLED OVER IN A NOT SO VERY NICE PART OF THIS PARTICULAR TOWN, SHUT OFF THE CAR. FORTUNATELY FOR US, THE VEHICLE STARTED AND WE GOT HOME. I HAVE A CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD THE VEHICLE (USED) TO ME IN 2012. I AM HOPING TO HEAR FROM THEM TOMORROW. PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING, I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO HESITATE MANY TIME WHILE DRIVING ; ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I KNOW OF TWO FRIENDS WHO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR THIS FOR FREE. I AM HOPING THE SAME. IT SEEMS TO BE THOUGH, THAT THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING AT 20 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE TOOL LIGHT CAME ON AND MY FORD NO LONGER WOULD GET GAS FROM THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS SUDDENLY COASTING WITHOUT ABILITY TO GIVE GAS TO THE CAR HOWEVER THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. IT CAME TO A STOP AFTER I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF HIGH TRAFFIC AREA ALMOST GETTING HIT BY OTHER CARS. THERE IS NO WARNING IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY. SHUT OFF CAR TURNED BACK ON AND WAS FINE. ON THE 9TH OF SEPT JUST A COUPLE DAYS LATER THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES ALMOST CAUSING A SEVERE ACCIDENT--SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS AS IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TOO MANY TIMES AS BEING A ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE AND IT IS A DEFECT. I AM HAVING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AT THE FORD DEALER TOMORROW AS I HAD IT TESTED TODAY AND HOOKED UP TO DIAGNOSTICS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT GAVE WARNINGS. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE TO THE DEALER IT MUST BE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ALSO THE RPM'S WERE GOING CRAZY WHEN THIS HAPPENED EACH TIME. THE AGENCY NEEDS TO HAVE IT SO IT IS RECALLED ITEM SO THIS WOULDN'T BE COMING DIRECTLY OUT OF THE CONSUMERS POCKET--IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE FORD 2010 ESCAPE--I WANT A REFUND!!! *TR
THROTTLE BODY SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED, AND ACCELERATOR PEDDLE WENT LIMP. DEALERSHIP IS TELLING US IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY, WE'RE UNDER THE 36,000MI BUT OVER ON THE 3 YEARS HOWEVER NOW I'M READING THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
1ST - VEHICLE WAS REFUELED WITH 87 OCTANE AND JUST DROVE ONE MILE DOWN AND UP A HILL WERE IT STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE THROTTLE WAS APPLIED AND VEHICLE LURCHED AND STALLED. 2ND - VEHICLE WAS DRIVING AROUND NEIGHBORHOOD GOING 20 MPH AND STARTED TO SPUTTER AND HESITATE 3RD - RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WERE IT WAS STOPPED THEN THROTTLE APPLIED AND LURCHED AND STALLED 4TH - USING CRUISE CONTROL DRIVING 75 MPH DOWN PARKWAY, VEHICLE HESITATED AND THEN QUICKLY SLOWED DOWN TO 20 MPH AND STALLED 5TH - DRIVING TO DEALER TO FIGURE OUT HESITATION AND STALL, ACCELERATED FROM RED LIGHT AND HESITATED AND STALLED 6TH - STILL ENROUTE TO DEALER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED, AND VEHICLE STALLS AGAIN ONLY 300 FEET FROM LAST STALL. ENGINE HAS ROUGH IDLE. POLICE OFFICER SUGGESTED THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM BECAUSE HIS FORD EXPEDITION RECENTLY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND SYMPTOMS. DEALER DIAGNOSED A BAD THROTTLE BODY. VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE LAST 6TH STALL. EVERY TIME VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEM THERE WAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AND RESTART IN NEUTRAL LED TO RE-STALLING. VEHICLE HAD TO BE STOPPED AND RE-STARTED AFTER TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN PARK. ENGINE SPUTTERED AND WAS RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION AFTER 6TH STALL BUT SLOW SMOOTH ACCELERATION PROVED EFFECTIVE. ALL STALLS WERE EXPERIENCED WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE ACCELERATION. *LN
COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION, BUT NEVER STALLED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING. WE TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED AND IT DROVE FINE.
WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 40MPH OVER A FREEWAY OVERPASS, THE CAR LURCHED REPEATEDLY, AND SLOWED WAY DOWN. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY GET IT PULLED OVER, TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT. FOR THE NEXT DAY AND A HALF, IT WOULD DIE ALMOST EVERY TIME I CAME TO A STOP FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS, OR ANY TIME I TRIED TO DRIVE UP MY INCLINED DRIVEWAY. I RESTED IT THE NEXT DAY (SUNDAY) AND MONDAY MORNING DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. IT DID NOT DIE ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. NOW THE DEALERSHIP HAS IT AND THEY HAVE ROAD TESTED IT 2 OR 3 TIMES AND CAN'T GET IT TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM OR SHOW CODES. I'VE FOUND SEVERAL LINKS ONLINE TO PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND IT TURNS OUT TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY. HOWEVER, THE FORD DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY UNLESS IT SHOWS THEM CODES OR REPEATS THE BEHAVIOR FOR THEM. THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT THAT THIS HAPPENED. AS IT'S APPARENTLY AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, WHO KNOWS WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN? SO IF IT DOESN'T DO IT FOR THEM IN THE NEXT DAY, I'LL HAVE TO PICK THE CAR BACK UP UNFIXED, AND AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT ON THE FREEWAY FOR FEAR OF BEING KILLED WHEN IT LOSES POWER AT 65MPH AND CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,600. *TR
DRIVING DOWN ROAD AT 55MPH, SUDDENLY THE GAS PEDAL WAS UNRESPONSIVE (NO POWER) . PULLED TO THE SIDE OF ROAD, SHUT CAR DOWN AND WAITED APPROX. 5 MIN. THEN RESTARTED CAR. RAN OK. SINCE THEN THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING EVENT. RECENTLY STALLED ON RAILROAD TRACKS AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK. WOULD LIKE TO SEE FORD STEP UP AND RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE LOSSES THEIR LIFE IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A FAIRLY EXPENSIVE REPAIR,APPROX. $650 FROM WHAT WE'VE READ ON LINE. SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING WITH MORE FREQUENCY SINCE FIRST OCCURRENCE. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE HAD BEEN HAVING AN UNEVEN IDLE WHILE IN DRIVE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. IN THIS CASE, WHILE ACCELERATING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND STALLED WITH THE ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATING. PULLED OVER TURNED KEY TO OFF POSITION PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THAT WEEKEND. TECHNICIAN WITNESSED THE UNEVEN IDLE. NO CODES WOULD SHOW UP ON COMPUTER. TECHNICIAN RE-CALIBRATED IDLE. CAR RAN SMOOTH FOR 3 DAYS AND UNEVEN IDLE REAPPEARED. THREE WEEKS LATER WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN, CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE; WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH WITH CRUISE SET I COULD FEEL "SURGES" IN THE ENGINE. TOOK CAR OFF CRUISE, COULD STILL FEEL SOMETHING JUST WASN'T RIGHT. UNEVEN IDLE STILL PERSISTS ALTHOUGH NOT CONSISTENTLY. TAKING BACK TO DEALERSHIP TODAY. HAVE DONE LOTS OF RESEARCH ONLINE AND BELIEVE THIS MAY BE CONNECTED TO ALL THE COMPLAINTS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
THROTTLE BODY FAILURE: REPLACEMENT NOT ONLY COSTLY, BUT ALSO ON BACK ORDER AND IS ESTIMATED TO TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS. *JB
I WAS GOING HOME FROM WORK IN A MIDDLE LANE OF THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH. THE ESCAPE STARTING COASTING DOWN AS IF THE ENGINE HAD DIED. I GAVE A LITTLE MORE GAS, NO EFFECT. I GAVE MORE AND MORE GAS UNTIL FLOORED, NO EFFECT. BY NOW I WAS DOWN TO 45 MPH IN MULTIPLE LANES OF HEAVY INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO JUST GET INTO THE RIGHT LANE IN ORDER TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. ON THE SHOULDER, I FOUND THAT THE ENGINE WAS IDLING, I THOUGHT IT HAD DIED. I JUST COULD NOT REV IT ABOVE THE IDLE RPM. I TURNED IT OFF & READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL WHICH SAID TO GET TO A DEALER. I RE-STARTED IT & REVVED IT A BIT. I CAUTIOUSLY DROVE ABOUT A MILE ON THE SHOULDER TO THE EXIT, WHICH WAS MY EXIT. I CAREFULLY WENT HOME WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS. I DROVE TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING WITHOUT PROBLEMS. ON THE WAY HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ON A SMALL TWO-LANE ROAD WITH NO SHOULDERS & DITCHES IMMEDIATELY AT THE EDGE OF THE ROAD. I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF MY LANE TO RESTART IT. LUCKILY A CAR COMING UP BEHIND ME SLOWED TO A STOP TO LET ME GET GOING AGAIN. I RESEARCHED THE "THROTTLE CONTROL / POWERTRAIN" ERROR MESSAGE AND FOUND THAT IT HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM SINCE 2004 FOR MULTIPLE FORD VEHICLES. THERE WERE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS THAT FORD WOULD NOT HONOR THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THE MESSAGE POINTS TO A POWERTRAIN PROBLEM. WARRANTY IS FOR UP TO 36,000 MILES AND POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS FOR UP TO 72,000. I HAD 38,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER. NO MATTER HOW I QUESTIONED HIM, HIS RESPONSE BOILED DOWN TO BRING IT IN SO WE CAN LOOK AT IT. THE ONLY ESTIMATE I COULD GET WAS THAT IF WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT, THERE WOULD BE A $99.99 DIAGNOSTIC FEE IF FORD DID NOT PERFORM ANY SUGGESTED REPAIR. I FOUND IN MY RECORDS THAT I HAD TAKEN THE ESCAPE IN TO THIS DEALER AT ~5,800 MILES FOR A RECALL THAT STATED THAT IT WOULD PREVENT THIS PROBLEM! *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 09-10-13, A WEEK AFTER HAVING THE WORKS AND AN ALIGNMENT DONE ON MY CAR AT A FORD DEALER. WHILE DRIVING 40MPH, MY VEHICLE SURGED AND LUNGED, THEN I LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE MY VEHICLE HAD TO PULL OVER PUT FLASHERS ON AND RESTART VEHICLE. A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT LIT UP ON MY DASH. I LOOKED IT UP IN THE MANUAL WHICH INDICATED A THROTTLE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHICH SERVICED MY VEHICLE FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEY AGREED THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE PROBLEM BUT NOT TO WORRY UNLESS IT HAPPENS AGAIN; THEN CALL TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED 09-14-13 WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. AGAIN I LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT LIT UP ON MY DASH. I HAD TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT TO RESTART MY VEHICLE. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET TO REPLACE AND FIX THE PROBLEM ON A VEHICLE THAT IS JUST OVER THREE YEARS OLD AND THAT IS NOT RIGHT. THE PROBLEM DID NOT STEM FROM MY OPERATING THE VEHICLE. *TR

SOMETIMES IT WILL START RIGHT BACK UP SOMETIMES I WILL HAVE TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES. THERE IS NO WARNING, IT HAS DONE IT WHEN I'M GOING SLOW AND IT'S DONE IT WHEN I AM ON INTERSTATE GOING 65MPH, IT HAS DONE IT WHEN I'M STOPPED AND TRY TO GO. ON WAY HOME THE CAR DID IT AGAIN AS I WAS COASTING AROUND THE CORNER. THAT'S WHEN I TOOK I TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONLY TO BE TOLD THE PART. THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. SEEMS A RECALL IS IN ORDER. OVER 700.00 TO BE FIXED, PLUS POSSIBLY 3 WEEKS WAITING FOR THE PART.
WHILE DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET, MY VEHICLE STARTED TO DECELERATE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I LOST ALL MOTIVE POWER, AND I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND THEN, AFTER A MINUTE, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AGAIN. IT WORKED BUT I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE FORD DEALER. THEY INDICATED THAT IF THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ON (THERE WAS NONE) THEN IT WOULD BE UNLIKELY FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO DETERMINE EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THREE DAYS LATER, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AGAIN. AGAIN, I TURNED THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT, AND DROVE OFF. IT WAS IN THICK TRAFFIC SO WE WERE MOVING SLOWLY FOR THE HIGHWAY, BUT AGAIN IT WAS BETWEEN 40-50 MILES/HOUR. I BELIEVE THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE THE INCIDENTS DETAILED IN THE CURRENT OPEN INVESTIGATION, PE13003, OPENED IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. A RECALL OF THESE FORD ESCAPES NEEDS TO HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR YOUR CAR TO SUDDENLY STOP FOR NO REASON ESPECIALLY IF THE SUV IS CARRIED SMALL CHILDREN (MINE WAS NOT). NEW ONE WAS BACK ORDERED TO OCTOBER 26TH. SERVICE TECHNICIAN(KYLE) TOLD ME I COULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. INITIAL TESTING REVEALED NO PROBLEM BUT AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED FOR THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AT A TOTAL COST OF 480.97 AS THE WARRANTY ON THE PART HAD EXPIRED 214 MILES PREVIOUSLY. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS ENOUGH DISTANCE THAT I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE MEDIAN AND STOP. FORD ESCAPE HAS NO POWER. IDLES AT LESS THAN 1000 RPMS OCCASSIONALLY SPUTTERS. *JS
ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2013 I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, OUTSIDE OF TOWN WHEN I ACCELERATED TO MERGE LANES & MY ESCAPE STARTED LURCHING AND I LOST POWER CAUSING MY CAR TO COST TO A STOP. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO A LOCATION THAT WAS SAFE AND HAD TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. I HAD IT TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND WHERE I HAVE ALL MAINTENANCE DONE ON IT. I WAS TOLD BY LANDMARK FORD SERVICE THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT TWO WEEKS TO GET THE PART IN AND AROUND $520.00 TO FIX IT. I SPOKE WITH FORD CORP AND THEY SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM (THUS, THE BACK ORDER ON REPLACEMENT PARTS). MY ESCAPE IS 3 YEARS OLD. *JB
