CAR SHUDDERED THEN DIED IN MIDDLE OF VERY DANGEROUS, NARROW, CURVY ROAD. STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY BUT DIED WHEN PUT IN DRIVE. EVENTUALLY GOT THE CAR HOME AFTER NUMEROUS STALLS (A DISTANCE OF APPROX. 3 MILES) HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED IN. TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE $514.00 REPAIR BILL WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY OF THE WARRANTIES. WE HAD OWNED THE CAR 30 DAYS, AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED THE DAY OF THE EVENT. APPARENTLY FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO RECALL OR PAY FOR REPAIRS. MY 17 YEAR OLD SON COULD VERY EASILY HAVE BEEN KILLED. *TR
THE CAR LITERALLY DIED WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OVER (COASTED MORE LIKE), TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART (IT DID). THEN IT DID THE SAME THING AN HOUR LATER. I WAS TOLD BY A TRUSTED MECHANIC IT'S LIKELY A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY (TBA) AND THAT THERE'S A NOTE IN THE DATABASE INDICATING THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM. I WON'T KNOW FOR SURE UNTIL IT'S REPLACED ON THURSDAY. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID IT'S POSSIBLE IT COULD BE COVERED UNDER THEIR 60,000/5YR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY BUT THAT A DEALER MIGHT SAY IT'S UNDER THE 3 YR WARRANTY AND THUS PASSED COVERAGE. I WENT TO A NEARBY FORD DEALERSHIP AND SURPRISE, SURPRISE IT'S NOT COVERED. HOW CAN A CAR LITERALLY DYING WHILE ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY NOT BE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART?! IT'S A 2010 MODEL. I'VE GOT LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT. ALSO THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY BOOK SPECIFICALLY LISTS THE TBA AS COVERED AND IT'S NOT LIMITED TO 3 YEARS. THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. IT'S NOT A MINOR PROBLEM LIKE THE AIR CONDITIONING GOING OUT. AND I DON'T THINK THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENCE IF THERE IS SUFFICIENT CONCERN THAT A MECHANIC CAN SEE A WARNING ON THE PART. I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR JUST LOST POWER. I HAD JUST EXITED THE HWY. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY BACK OFF AND THE CAR RESTARTED. THEN THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER. THEN TWO WEEKS LATER IS HAPPENED AGAIN SAME SITUATION. IT HAPPENED ABOUT 3- 4 TIMES. WE THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS BAD GAS -- SO WE REFILLED WITH PREMIUM GAS....TWO WEEKS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN 3 TIMES IN A ROW. ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY -- IT WAS VERY SCARY..I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY FOUND NOTHING - DID NOT CHARGE ME AND THERE WAS NO REPORT THAT I EVEN TOOK THE CAR IN TO THEM .3 WEEKS AFTER THAT ..IT HAPPENED CONSTANTLY BUT I WAS ON A TRIP AWAY FROM HOME -- IT STARTED BACK UP EVERY TIME ..I IT HAPPENED 9 TIME IN ONE DAY. 3 TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE GOING ABOUT 60 MPH -- IT WAS VERY UPSETTING..WHEN I GOT HOME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE ABS AND IT WOULD COST 800$+ -- I TOLD THEM TO KEEP THE CAR AND DRIVE IT UNTIL THE ISSUE I HAD HAPPENED TO THEM -- THEY HAD IT 2- 3 DAYS AND IT FINALLY HAPPENED TO THEM WHEN THEY HAD THE DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR...IT WAS THE THROTTLE SENSOR ...THEY CHARGED ME $400+ AND IT IS NOW FIXED--MY SISTER HAD AN ESCAPE AN DID HAVE THE SAME ISSUE -- MY 83 YEAR OLD MOTHER HAS THE SAME CAR AND I WOULD NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO HER! SPOUSE DROVE AWAY FROM HOUSE AND VEHICLE STALLED ON THE CITY STREET ABOUT 400 FEET FROM HOME. THIS WAS ON A SATURDAY, I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, CONTINUED TO STALL. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO MY GARAGE AND THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON A FLAT BED TRUCK TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY AT MY EXPENSE. (NO CHARGE FOR TOWING). *TR
CAR WENT FROM 70 MPH TO IDLE ON THE HIGHWAY, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. DEALER REPLACE FAULTY THROTTLE BODY, BUT WE CONTINUE TO HAVE SPORADIC ACCELERATION ISSUES. DEALER CANNOT FIND FAULTS IN THE CURRENT THROTTLE BODY. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE ENGINE STALLED AS I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. THE SECOND INCIDENT, WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE NEARLY KILLED AND WAS IN A LOW SPEED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, JUST STAYED IN ONE SPOT LIKE IT WAS STALLED. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
A LIGHT IN THE SHAPE OF A WRENCH SUDDENLY APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD OF THE CAR. THE CAR GOES IMMEDIATELY INTO NEUTRAL BUT ENGINE KEEPS RUNNING. MANAGED TO GET TO SHOULDER AND TURNED OFF CAR. WAITED AND RESTARTED. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED, BUT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY, CREATING A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. EACH TIME, THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND KEPT THE CAR FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. THEY'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 35MPH IN THE CITY, THE CAR LOST ALL POWER, WHILE IT WAS ABLE TO STEER AND BRAKE, THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT WORK, RPM SLOWED TO 500 AND THE CAR COASTED TO A STOP. THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, IT RAN WELL. THE SAME SITUATION AND SEQUENCE OCCURRED 24 HOURS LATER. I TOOK THE CARE TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO SAID THAT THE COMPUTER REVEALED NO ISSUES. THEY KEPT THE CAR AND WERE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE LOSS OF POWER ON A TEST DRIVE. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, THE COMPUTER SHOWED NO ERROR CODE BUT THEIR READINGS REVEALED ERRATIC READINGS WITH THE MASS AIR SENSOR. THEY REPLACED IT BUT TOLD ME THAT THE SENSOR ITSELF DID NOT SEEM OT BE MALFUNCTIONING. THE DEFECT CAUSED A POTENTIAL DANGEROUS SITUATION. WITHOUT POWER, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE ROAD WAS QUIET AND I COULD COAST FROM THE INSIDE LANE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 68,200.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT STARTED BOLTING FORWARD BUT AT THE SAME TIME COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION.. I PULLED OVER AND PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG I STARTED CAR AGAIN AND IT SOUNDED FINE SO I STARTED OUT AGAIN.. GOT ABOUT A BLOCK DOWN THE ROAD AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN..I HAD IT TOWED IN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY CHECKED IT OUT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE THAT THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH ON SOME OF THE ESCAPES.. SO THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP NOW FOR 9 DAYS WAITING ON THE PART! AND FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE LIKE ME WAITING ON THE PART.. EVEN ONE CAR HAS BEEN AT SHOP FOR THREE WEEKS... ALSO WANTED TO NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM CAME RIGHT OUT OF THE BLUE! NO WARNING AT ALL! THANK GOODNESS I WAS ON A SIDE STREET AND NOT GOING VERY FAST! I CAN SEE WHERE THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IN THE RIGHT SITUATIONS!! THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR FOUR WEEKS. *TR
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WITHIN CITY LIMITS THE CAR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND SIMPLY STOPPED. SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO A DEALER BECAUSE SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN. IT WOULD WORK FOR A FEW MILES AT MOST AND STOP AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED IN MAY, BUT WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD US IT WAS LIKELY THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY, BUT IT WAS FUNCTIONING AT THE TIME WE TOOK IT IN. FINALLY ON JUNE 27, THE CAR WAS SIMPLY NOT OPERATING. WE WERE TOLD THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT A POWER TRAIN FUNCTION AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. WE HAVE READ ABOUT MANY OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT SHE WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM! *TR
DRIVER WAS ACCELERATING AT 35 MPH AND 2010 FORD ESCAPE ENGINE BECAME NON-RESPONSIVE. ATTEMPTS TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR WERE UNPRODUCTIVE. POWERTRAIN LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE COASTED TO SHOULDER OF ROAD AND WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. POWERTRAIN LIGHT WENT OUT UPON RESTARTING. VEHICLE INSPECTION AT FORD DEALER REVEALED NO PROBLEMS. THREE DAYS ALTER, SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED WITH A DIFFERENT DRIVER. THE EXPERIENCE WAS DESCRIBED AS THE GAS PEDAL BEING DISENGAGED FROM THE ENGINE. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY, BETWEEN 4PM AND 5PM, 40MPH. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND PRESSING GAS PEDAL RESULTED IN NO FORWARD MOMENTUM OR RESPONSE FROM THE RPM GAUGE. PULLED OVER COASTING, NO FURTHER RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. RESTARTED CAR, PROCEEDED NORMALLY. HAPPENED AGAIN A MONTH LATER, SAME SPEED, SAME TIME OF DAY. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE ISSUE (THROTTLE BODY) RIGHT AWAY FROM MY DESCRIPTION. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED, NO FURTHER ISSUES. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS VIA THE INTERNET REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE. ISSUE WAS REPLICATED IN A NON-RELATED VIDEO: HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=6HKMOS9POHU. *TR
WITHOUT WARNING, VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER AND ENTERED "LIMP MODE" WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT BETWEEN 65-70 MPH. THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED (WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT) AS I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. IN THIS "LIMP MODE" THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE, BUT THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT POWER TO PROPEL THE VEHICLE. I SWITCHED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN WITH APPARENTLY NORMAL OPERATION AFTER THE RESTART. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED A SECOND TIME WITHIN 500 MILES OF THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY MENTIONED THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE LIKELY SOURCE. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND I'VE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE. I'VE DRIVEN OVER 10K MILES WITH THE REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY WITHOUT THIS ISSUE OCCURRING AGAIN. *TR
ON JUNE 15, 2012, THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE WITH 29321 MILES LOST POWER (I.E. NO GAS, BUT ELECTRONICS REMAINED ON) WHILE MERGING ONTO A CROWDED HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH. AN ACCIDENT WAS BARELY AVOIDED. ERROR LIGHTS WERE LIT ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. HOWEVER, UPON REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND REINSERTING THEM, THE ERROR LIGHTS TURNED OFF AND THE CAR RESTARTED WITHOUT ANY APPARENT PROBLEMS. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY DRIVEN TO THE UNIVERSITY FORD DEALERSHIP IN CHAPEL HILL, NC. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT DETECT A PROBLEM, STATED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS NOT REGISTERING ANY ERRORS, AND RETURNED THE CAR WITHOUT FIXING ANYTHING. ON JUNE 27, 2012, THE CAR (29988 MILES) AGAIN LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE CAR HAD BEEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. AGAIN, AN ACCIDENT WAS BARELY AVOIDED. THIS TIME, THE CAR'S COMPUTER DID REGISTER AN ERROR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT UNIVERSITY FORD IDENTIFIED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY SENSOR (PART NO. 9L8Z9E926A) AND REPLACED IT WITH PART NO. DS7Z9E926A. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ENSURED THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT REPEAT ITSELF. ON NOVEMBER 24, 2012, THE CAR (ROUGHLY 34000 MILES) LOST POWER FOR A THIRD TIME WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND REPLACING THEM ALLOWED THE CAR TO BE RESTARTED, AND THE CAR WAS PROMPTLY TAKEN TO UNIVERSITY FORD. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT NO ERROR WAS REGISTERED ON THE COMPUTER AND THAT THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE RETURNED. THE WARRANTY POLICY STATES THAT NO PARTS CAN BE REPLACED IF A PROBLEM IS NOT DETECTED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 4 (FLORIDA) LOST ALL ACCELERATION OF ESCAPE WHILE DRIVING MIDDLE LANE (70 MPH). I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND PAID FOR IT TO GET FIXED (THEY SAID IT WAS A BATTERY CABLE) . I HAD TWO CARS SWERVE TO MISS ME AS THE CAR TOTALLY SHUT DOWN AS I WAS TRYING TO GET OVER TO SHOULDER. I CONTACTED FORD VIA EMAIL AND RECEIVED EMAILS BACK INDICATING (AND I HAVE THEM ON FILE) THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL OR NOTICE OF THIS KIND OF ISSUE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE ISSUES WILL ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. *TR
DRIVING 60MPH ON HIGHWAY WHEN FORD ESCAPE BUCKED, SLOWED, DID NOT ACCELERATE WHEN GAS WAS APPLIED. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD WHERE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND DIED. RESTARTED TRUCK, DROVE ANOTHER 10 MILES WHEN SAME OCCURRED. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. I ASSUMED I HAD BOUGHT GAS WITH WATER IN IT "BAD GAS". SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE USED A PRODUCT TO REMOVE WATER FROM THE GAS, THIS ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD ON JULY 5TH, I BELIEVE ITS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE IN MY SUV. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS ENGINE BEFORE A FATALITY OCCURS, I HAVE VISIONS OF SOMEONE PLOWING INTO THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE WHILE MY ENGINE STALLS UNEXPECTEDLY. *TR
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 65 MPH, CAR DECELERATES AND STARTS CUTTING OUT, WE HAVE TO STOP, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, KILL THE ENGINE, RESTART, AND GO AGAIN. DRIVING ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO PLACE TO PULL OVER, NO SHOULDERS, STEEP SIDE DITCHES IT DIED 6 TIMES IN 7 MILES. THIS IS JUST THE LAST INCIDENT, THERE WERE MANY OTHERS. I HAD IT DIAGNOSED AS THE THROTTLE BODY BEING BAD, HAD IT ORDERED. FOUND OUT THERE WAS A 3 MONTH BACK ORDER, BECAUSE THERE WAS SO MANY OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH NO RECALL. THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A BAD ODOR WAS EMITTING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER VENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS MOLD IN THE EVAPORATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,531.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40-50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE THEN IDLED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 15 MPH. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,800 UPDATED 7/9/12 *CN THE DEALER DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. UPDATED 07/10/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ENGINE & POWERTRAIN BAD HESITATION AT LOW SPEED ALL THE TIME. SEEMS LIKE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION THAT GENERATES ENGINE & POWERTRAIN TO SURGE AND SEEMS LIKE ENGINE WILL STALL. THIS ALSO CREATES HARD IMPACT IN TRANSMISSION & DRIVELINE SYSTEM AS ALL OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAPPENS AND SUDDEN TORQUE IN TRANSMISSION & DRIVE LINE GENERATES HIGH STRESS (IMPACT) ON THESE SYSTEMS THAT AFFECTS & DEGRADES DURABILITY & RELIABILITY OF VEHICLE. BAD ENGINE & POWERTRAIN HESITATION IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO DEGRADED ENGINE PERFORMANCE AT INTERSECTIONS WHERE ENGINE POWER IS REQUIRED TO TAKE OFF FROM 0MPH TO 45MPH AND POOR ACCELERATION & HESITATION IS PRESENT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN 128 (A MAJOR HIGHWAY) , WHEN MY CAR 'APPEARED' TO DOWNSHIFT ALL ON IT'S OWN. THE 'WRENCH' APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND I MANAGED TO COAST INTO A REST AREA BEFORE THE CAR EVENTUALLY STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND AT FIRST IT SEEMED LIKE EVERYTHING WAS FINE AGAIN. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT HOME, BUT 4-5 MINUTES IN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT HESITATED, LIGHT CAME ONE, CAR STALLED, I DANGEROUSLY COASTED INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE I THEN DECIDED TO GET IT TOWED SINCE IT WAS STALLING IN DANGEROUS PLACES AND I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD MAKE IT HOME. I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC THAT NIGHT. NEXT DAY I WAS TOLD IT'S THE ETB, BUT IT'S NOT COVERED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS PART IS NOT IN STOCK SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY BEING SOLD. THIS APPEARS TO BE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A RECALL, SINCE IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING COMMON AND CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR WORSE. THIS IS MY 5TH FORD, I'VE HAD THE EXPLORER, MUSTANG, FORD 250, FORD 150 AND NOW THE ESCAPE. MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE IS MAKING A NOISE THAT STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE TOOLS WERE BEING STORED IN THE BACK AND WHEN I STOPPED, TURNED, OR EVEN BEGAN TO TAKE OFF AGAIN I WOULD HEAR THIS RATTLING SOUND. I HAD TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF 150 SOMETHING DOLLARS. TEST-DROVE VEHICLE WITH MECHANIC BUT IT WAS VERY HARD TO DUPLICATE. THEY HAD VEHICLE 3 SEPARATE TIMES VEHICLE ENDED UP STAYING BY THE 3RD TIME WITH THEM FROM A THURSDAY TILL A TUESDAY I WAS TOLD IT WAS RUST ON THE SUB FRAME SHOCKED THAT FORD HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR AND THAT THEY HAD TO REMOVE SOME TYPE OF BOLTS. SOUND WOULD BE GONE FOR A FEW DAYS BUT MAYBE SHAKE BACK LOOSE. SOUND NOW COMING FROM THE FRONT. I CALLED BACK TO THE 1ST DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER BASICALLY DON'T BRING IT BACK THERE IT IS A WASTE OF THEIR TIME BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE HE ASKED ME WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE BACK TO ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP. I MUST SAY EARLY ON INTO THE SITUATION I WROTE TO FORD BECAUSE I WAS VERY DISGUSTED THAT I HAD TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO FORD ALL THIS TIME AND WANTED MY FEE BACK. MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE WHERE THE ACCELERATOR STOPS WORKING, THE ENGINE WRENCH ALERT COMES ON, THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE VEHICLE HAS BASICALLY STALLED, IN THAT YOU CAN'T ACCELERATE ONLY SLOW DOWN OR COAST. AFTER THE PROBLEM OCCURS YOU MUST TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES, THEN IT WILL USUALLY START UP AND THE ACCELERATOR WILL FUNCTION AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE RADIATOR SEAL WAS FRACTURED, CAUSING A LEAK. IN ADDITION, THEY ADVISED THAT THE REAR AXLE SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE RADIATOR AND REAR AXLE SEALS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED 100 PERCENT COVERAGE OF THE REPAIR. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT IN AND OUT OF GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE SOLENOID AND ANOTHER UNKNOWN COMPONENT NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

EVEN BEFORE I GOT THE RECALL NOTICE I NOTICED THAT 1 TIME OUT OF 10 WHEN I ENGAGED MY CAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE THAT THE CAR WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY ( LIKE, SOMEONE JUST HIT MY CAR WITH THEIR CAR ). WELL, ON MAY 8, I WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE "WRENCH" LIGHT (POWERTRAIN FAULT INDICATED/DETECTED ! ) CAME ON THE DISPLAY/INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN ADDITION, I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO NOT RUNNING THAT WELL. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED IT OFF RIGHT AWAY THAT NIGHT. IT HAS BEEN 5 DAYS AND THE WORK IS STILL NOT DONE. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE ON MAY 7TH 2012 THERE WERE ONE AUDIBLE AND THREE VISIBLE ALARMS - SHOWING A BRAKE FAILURE. I MOVED FORWARD SLIGHTLY TO SEE IF THAT WAS TRUE AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. FORD HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED IN AND IT TOOK ABOUT 10 DAYS TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR - A FAILED PIN IN A BRAKE SIGNAL WIRE. THEY REPLACED THE WIRE. ON SUNDAY 4 AUGUST 2013 WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH I HEARD A TWIN CHIME AUDIBLE ALARM AND LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD. THERE WAS A VISIBLE NOTICE - CHECK BRAKES. WHEN I DID - THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY TURNING INTO A SIDE STREET THAT WAS UPHILL AND USING THE EMERGENCY / PARKING BRAKE. THERE WERE 33,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT. FORD, ONCE AGAIN, HAD IT TOWED IN. EVEN THOUGH I EXPLAINED CAREFULLY IN WRITING WHAT HAPPENED, WHEN THE REPAIR SHOP OPENED ON MONDAY THEY WROTE IT UP AS A REPEAT OF THE ORIGINAL FAILURE - SO THE DIAGNOSIS IS SUSPECT IN MY MIND. AFTER ABOUT 10 DAYS THEY SAID IT WAS READY - NO FAILURE FOUND BUT THERE WAS SOME CODE SAVED IN MEMORY; THEY RELOADED SOME FIRMWARE AND TEST DROVE IT ABOUT 20 MILES A DAY FOR A WEEK. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM CONCERNED EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. IT NOW HAS 33, 200 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 80 MPH AND SUDDENLY MY CAR JERKED, AND LOST ALL CONTROL OF ACCELERATION. MY CAR WENT FROM 80-15 IN JUST A MATTER OF SECONDS. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY SEVERAL CARS THE LAST TIME SINCE THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH SHOULDER FOR ME TO GET MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD AS THE ENGINE DIED. MY SISTER HAS THE SAME CAR (ONLY A YEAR NEWER) AND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO HER WHILE SHE WAS ON VACATION IN INDIANA. IN RESEARCHING THE INCIDENT WE DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE ESCAPE. THE MECHANIC AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE SHE HAD HER CAR TOWED TO MADE THE STATEMENT THAT HE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR TWO YEARS FOR A RECALL ON THIS PART. IF THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THEN WHY HASN'T FORD ISSUED A RECALL (RECALL EVEN A FORD MECHANIC IS WAITING FOR)? IN RESEARCHING WE ALSO DISCOVERED ANOTHER ISSUED WITH THE BACK WINDOW EXPLODING. TOOK SUV TO LOCAL FORD DEALER TOM HOLZER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS A FAILING THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. INQUIRED IF THERE WAS A KNOWN WARRANTY ISSUE AND DEALER CONFIRMED NO, BUT A SERVICE BULLETIN EXISTED AT CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE - WHICH WAS NOT AGREEABLE. TOM HOLZER SERVICE MANAGER ADVISE TO CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY (WHICH WE DID) AND FORD SAID TO CONTACT SERVICE MANAGER (WHICH WE DID). AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS AND FORMAL COMPLAINTS WE RECEIVED NO SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION. FORD WAS BLAMING THE LOCAL DEALER, THE LOCAL DEALER BLAMING FORD, AND WE STILL HAD TO PAY $525 TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. (IRONICALLY OUR GOOD FRIENDS HAVE A 2010 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH 80,000 MILES THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEIR LOCAL CHEVY DEALER REPLACED THEIR THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND PROVIDED LOANER VEHICLE DURING SERVICE PROCEDURE, BOTH AT NO CHARGE). MY CAR IS NOW AT A FORD DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY SAY IT IS NOT HAPPENING WHEN THEY DRIVE IT AND UNLESS IT HAPPENS WITH THEM, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT THE SITUATION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE ESCAPE JUST SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I PUT IT IN PARK AND IT STARTED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND A REASON. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE 8TH OF APRIL WHEN DRIVING TO WORK I JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY TO AN EXIT RAMP AND IT SHUT OFF AGAIN. I PUT IT IN PARK AND IT STARTED BACK UP AND SHUT OFF AGAIN JUST OVER A MILE DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ESCAPE. *TR
WHILE MAKE A MOVING LEFT HAND TURN... ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. AS I CAME OUT OF THE TURN & STARTED TO TRY TO ACCELERATE I QUICKLY REALIZED I HAD NO ENGINE POWER... DRIFTED FOR ABOUT 50 YARDS & PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET. TRIED TURNING ENGINE ON... VEHICLE STARTED RIGHT UP. WENT ON MY WAY. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE ESCAPE STRAIGHT DOWN TO OUR FORD DEALERSHIP. FORD RAN A BUNCH OF TESTS BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I AM AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE NOW (HER VEHICLE) BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING SINCE I WAS 11 YEARS OLD. I AM NOW NEARLY 40. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS SITUATION. I LOOKED ALL AROUND THE STEERING WHEEL/ETC. TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF THERE WAS SOME WAY I COULD HAVE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE (BESIDES THE KEYS)... I CANNOT SEE ANY OTHER POSSIBILITY... THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN "DRIVE" & THE FUEL TANK WAS MORE THAN HALF FULL. THE VEHICLE KEY IN THE IGNITION WAS STILL TURNED ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I CANNOT SAY FOR SURE THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS ABSENT WHEN THE ENGINE INITIALLY TURNED OFF... DID I STILL HAVE A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF ENGINE POWER?... I DO NOT KNOW... BUT I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE WRENCH SYMBOL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ALTHOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STOPPED AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE WAS RESOLVED MOMENTARILY. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AND RELAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
2010 FORD ESCAPE BACK HATCH AND WINDOW FAIL TO OPEN. THIS IS A KEYLESS WINDOW AND HATCH. FORD DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE 380.00 TO REPAIR. FORD DOES NOT HAVE A MANUAL OR SECONDARY SYSTEM TO OPEN THE BACK HATCH AND/OR WINDOW. THIS FAIL HAS RENDERED THE BACK PORTION OF THE ESCAPE USELESS. IN AN EMERGENCY, A SECONDARY MANUAL OPENING DEVICE FROM THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR NEEDS TO BE RETRO-FITTED, AFTER MARKET BY FORD. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, HAS NO INTEREST IN RESOLVING THIS OBVIOUS ENGINEERING BLUNDER. *TR
I WAS SHUTTING THE TAILGATE WHEN THE BACK GLASS JUST SHATTERED. IT WAS 15 DEGREES OUTSIDE. *TR
WENT TO ACCELERATE AND VEHICLE STALLED. REPLACED AT 50,000 MILES. ON THE NEW REPLACEMENT, AT 70,000, REPLACED AT MY COST AT DEALERSHIP, THROTTLE BODY STUTTERS AND CHUGS BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO GO TO LUNCH WHEN MY THROTTLE BODY JUST STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. I HAD TO SHUT IT OFF SEVERAL TIMES TO JUST GET IT A SIDE ROAD. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD IN REGARDS TO BEING REIMBURSED FOR HAVING THIS PART REPLACED WHICH I PAID FOR OUT OF MY OWN POCKET AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REIMBURSE ME STATING THAT THE DATE FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS OVER JULY 31ST 2014. I HAVE FOUND ON THE NHTSA THAT THE WARRANTY IS GOOD FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES FROM THE DATA OF ORIGINAL PURCHASE, WHICH I PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2012 AND THERE IS ONLY 55,000 MILES ON IT WHICH IS CLEARLY UNDER THE WARRANTY. I HAD THE PART REPLACED AT BARTOW FORD IN BARTOW, FL AND THE ARE REFUSING TO REIMBURSE ME AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW EXPLODED. THE CONTACT FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN UNDER SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER: TSB-11-2-9 (VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR) BUT WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,400 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
I WENT TO CLOSE THE REAR AND WENT IT SHUT, THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED SHATTERING GLASS AND SENDING IT ABOUT 15 FEET FROM THE VEHICLE, NO UNNECESSARY FORCE WAS USED IN CLOSING THE HATCH, NOTHING WAS BLOCKING IT OR ANYTHING. BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN OCTOBER 2011. THIS HAPPENED JAN. 13, 2012. JUST CLOSED THE HATCH AND BOOM, GLASS WENT EVERYWHERE. *TR
WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, A STRONG FUEL ODOR IS PRESENT AND ABOUT A QUART OF FUEL LEAKS FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THIS LEAK DOES NOT COME FROM A SPILLAGE AT THE PUMP HANDLE AND FILLER TUBE. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I REFUEL. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD! *TT
