I WAS TRAVELING DURING THE HOLIDAYS AND WENT TO A CAR WASH. WHEN THE ATTENDANT WENT TO CLOSE THE REAR LIFT GATE THE BACK WINDOW GLASS EXPLODED OUTWARD AND COMPLETELY SHATTERED. I HAVE HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE WITH THE REVISED WINDOW COMPONENTS LISTED IN THE FORD TSB 11-2-9. THE CAR WASH PROVIDED ME WITH SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE OF THE INCIDENT. *TR
I HAD JUST ENTERED THE INTERSTATE AND WAS ACCELERATING UP TO SPEED. SUDDENLY THERE WAS NO POWER, A LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THERE WAS A SIGNAL. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND WAITED ABOUT 30 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND I WENT ON WITH MY BUSINESS. LATER THAT DAY THE SAME THING HAPPEND AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN I GOT HOME I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS OUT OF SPECIFICATIONS BY 8 OR 9 PERCENT. THEY ALSO STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRENTY. I TOLD THEM IT WAS A CPO VEHICLE THAT I HAD PURCHASED 3 DAYS BEFORE. I PAID THE BILL AND MY DEALER REIMBURSED ME THE $100 DEDUCTABLE DUE TO THE FIRST DEALER FILING THE PAPERWORK INCORRECTLY. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE AND IT NOW HAS 48,000 MILES ON IT. *JS
MOVED SOME ITEMS FROM REAR OF VEHICLE TO BACK SEAT AREA. CLOSED LIFTGATE, THEN CLOSED REAR PASSENGER DOOR. REAR LIFTGATE GLASS SHATTERED A FEW SECONDS LATER. BOTH WINDOW SHOCKS SHOT OUTWARD. GLASS LANDED BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. I TOOK PHOTOS WITH MY CELL PHONE. *KB
THE GLASS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF MY VEHICLE HAS MANY VERTICAL SCRATCHES - MORE AS I USE THE WINDOW. I AM FEARFUL THAT AS TIME PASSES THESE SCRATCHES WILL IMPAIR MY VIEW. I HAVE READ OF MANY OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND AT LEAST ONE IN WHICH THE GLASS SPONTANEOUSLY 'SPIDER WEBBED'. I HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AS WELL AS FORD CUSTOMER CARE REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THAT COMPONENT THEY WILL NOT REPAIR. THEY WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW A FIELD REPRESENTATIVE TO HAVE A LOOK. FORD HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN - TSB 10-25-5 THAT DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING AND THE REPAIR PROCEDURES. CURRENTLY THERE ARE NUMEROUS SCRATCHES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND A FEW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (PASSENGER WINDOW IS USED LESS FREQUENTLY). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC BUT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER REPLACED A SENSOR. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF WHICH SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
FIRST INCIDENT: NOV 2011 - SLOWED TO ENTER ROUND ABOUT AND VEHICLE STALLED/LOST ALL POWER. I DRIFTED ACROSS THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE, PUT IT IN PARK, AND IT RESTARTED. SECOND INCIDENT: OCT 26, 2012 - STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN AND VEHICLE STALLED/LOST POWER. PUT IT IN PARK AND IT RESTARTED, DEALER SAID IT WAS THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT (AND CHARGED ME) AND SAID THERE WERE NO TECHNICAL BULLETINS ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR THE THROTTLE SUDDENLY WOULD NOT LET ME 'GO' ANY FURTHER AND THE CAR SLOWED TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHEN STOPPED, IT SHUDDERED IN PLACE UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF. THIS HAPPENED ANOTHER TIME JUST AFTER A BUSY INTERSECTION, BUT FORD APPARENTLY DOES NOT DEEM THIS A SAFETY CONCERN, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND THE CONSEQUENCES FOR PROBLEMS LIKE THIS COULD BE TERRIBLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR FOR THE ABOVE PROBLEM TWICE, ANOTHER COUPLE OF TIMES FOR LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID (WHICH I AM ALSO LED TO BELIEVE COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO STOP IN TRAFFIC IF THE LEAK REMAINS UNDETECTED ONE OF THESE TIMES), AND ANOTHER FOR HARD SHIFTS BOTH ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE ONES THAT FORD SEEMS UNABLE TO FIX AND DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE HAPPENED. I KEEP WAITING FOR A RECALL TO BE ISSUED FOR AT LEAST SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS, SINCE IN SEVERAL SITUATIONS I DO FEEL VERY STRONGLY THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND DO NOT APPRECIATE MY CHILDREN HAVING TO RIDE IN AN UNRELIABLE CAR. I ALSO DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO THROW AT A 2010 CAR EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR LOOKING INTO THESE PROBLEMS. THANKS! *TR
SUBJECT: REAR WINDOW "EXPLODED". I CLOSED THE TAILGATE, NOT THE WINDOW, AND BY THE TIME I WAS 2-3 STEPS AWAY, THE WINDOW "EXPLODED". THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE OPENED AND I CLOSED THE TAILGATE DOOR, THEN THE WINDOW CHATTERED INTO PIECES THAT FLEW IN ALL DIRECTIONS. I ONLY OPENED AND CLOSED THE DOOR, I DID NOT OPERATE OR TOUCH THE WINDOW BUT IT CHATTERED. IT WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY DOOR I HAD OPENED WHEN IT HAPPENED. GLASS FLEW IN ALL DIRECTIONS IN LITTLE PIECES LIKE 8 FEET AWAY ON THE OUTSIDE AND LIKE 3 FEET ON THE INSIDE. THE SOCK ABSORBERS ARE STICKING OUT OF THE WINDOW AND ARE TOO HARD TO RETRACT AND CAN'T BE PUT BACK INSIDE THE CAR. THE REAR WIPER ASEMBLY IS HANGING AND THE HEATER ELEMENTS ARE DANGLING TOO. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND THE 40'S AT AROUND 10:40 PM. NOTHING COULD'VE TOUCHED THE GLASS AT THE TIME OF CLOSING DOOR SINCE I ONLY HAD A CHARCOAL BAG LAYING FLAT ON THE CARGO AREA WITH A SMALL BOX OF ALUMINUM FOIL, A SMALL TOOLBOX (LIKE 4" X 8" X 12"), ALSO LAYING FLAT ON THE CARGO AREA FLOOR, AND A SMALL BLANKET. *TR
THIS WAS EMAILED TO FORD CUSTOMER CARE IN APRIL 2012. I PURCHASED A USED 2010 FORD ESCAPE V6 FWD IN DECEMBER 2010. THE VEHICLE OPERATED WELL UNTIL NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER OF 2011 WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY THE VEHICLE?S ACCELERATION GAVE OUT. THE RPMS WENT DOWN TO AN IDLING LEVEL (900 RPMS) AND THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT RESPOND. I PULLED ON TO THE SHOULDER AND AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE UNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE DID TURN BACK ON AND WAS OK TO DRIVE HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY IT WAS STILL RUNNING OK AND NO SENSOR LIGHTS WERE ON UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE FOLLOWING DAY I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO A FORD SERVICE CENTRE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PURGE VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS COMPLETED AND I WAS ASSURED THAT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED. ROUGHLY, TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED WITH THE VEHICLE?S ACCELERATION STOPPING AND ENGINE GOING TO AN IDLE, BUT THIS TIME THE POWERTRAIN LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE INTO THE FORD SERVICE CENTRE. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE AXEL ROD FLUID WAS LOW AND A SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AGAIN I WAS TOLD THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. AFTER DRIVING AROUND 7500 KMS THE VEHICLE HAD THE SAME ISSUE (WITH POWERTRAIN LIGHT ON). AFTER MAKING AN APPOINTMENT, THE VEHICLE?S ACCELERATION GAVE OUT 3 TIMES WHEN DRIVING ON ONE TRIP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. IT DROVE POORLY THE FOLLOWING DAY AND THE ACCELERATION GAVE OUT AGAIN. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD FOR THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED BUT DUE TO THE CONTINUOUS ASSURANCE THAT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED EACH TIME, I DID NOT HAVE FAITH THAT IT HAD AND BOUGHT A NEW VEHICLE AND TRADED IN THE ESCAPE. *TR
AT STOP OR IDLE, ENGINE SURGES, HESITATES, STALLS, SMELL GAS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. TOOK ESCAPE TO DEALER. DEALER SAYS ITS THE PURGE VALVE AND EVAP CANISTER. PURGE VALVE FAILED AND RAW GAS FILLED EVAP CANISTER. DEALER SAYS ITS OUT OF WARRANTY, THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOW PROBLEM SINCE 2006, TSB BULLETIN 11-3-22, PART # 9U5Z-9C915H-PURGE VALVE, PART # 9R3Z-9C985-B EVAP CANISTER. FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE DAMAGED PARTS WITH THE SAME PARTS WITH NO FIX FOR THE SPILLAGE OF RAW FUEL, ON THE GROUND, IN THE AIR, ON THE VEHICLE. THIS RAW FUEL SITUATION COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION AT ANY TIME. YET FORD SAYS ITS NOT AN EMISSION ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FORD FORUMS ON THE INTERNET ARE FULL OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME RAW FUEL SPILLAGE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE FORD ADMITS THEY HAVE A DESIGN PROBLEM AND FIXES IT??? THIS SAME ISSUE IS ALSO RELATED TO THE 2010-12 FUSION. *TR
AFTER WAITING FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL, I BEGAN MY TURN LEFT. JUST PAST THE INTERSECTION, I LOST POWER WITH SORT OF A CHUGGING MOTION IN THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS OF A SMALL WRENCH, INDICATING THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN IN THE MANUAL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AND DRIVE IN. THE CHARGE FOR INSTALLING DS7Z 9E926 D (THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR AS) WAS $400.46 PLUS TAX. WITH LESS THAN 38000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE, I DID NOT EXPECT TO HAVE THIS KIND OF REPAIR. *TR
AFTER STOPPING AT A LIGHT ON A HIGHWAY I PROCEEDED TO TURN LEFT AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINE CUT OUT. I HAD TO COAST ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. *TR
REAR WIPER FAILS TO OPERATE AT CONSTANT SPEED, OFTEN PREVENTING DRIVER FROM SEEING WHAT IS BEHIND, WHICH CREATES A SAFETY CONCERN. OWNER'S MANUAL (PAGE 66) STATES THAT REAR WIPER HAS A NORMAL SPEED AND AN INTERMITTENT SPEED. HOWEVER, DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER CARE CLAIM THAT TWO INTERMITTENT SETTINGS (ONE WITH LONGER DELAY) IS THE DESIGN INTENT. THIS IS ABSURD. NO OTHER VEHICLE WITH A REAR WIPER WHICH I HAVE DRIVEN (RENT FREQUENTLY) DOES NOT HAVE A CONSTANT SPEED OPERATION. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND A TOW TRUCK WAS NOTIFIED WHO TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE THROTTLE BOX FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,552.
2010 FORD ESCAPE. ACCELERATION FROM A STOP AND SLUGGISH ACCELERATION WHEN ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAYS WAS INTERMITTENT FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS AT APPROXIMATELY 58K MILES. CAR STALLED AT A STOP LIGHT AT 68K MILES, WAS ABLE TO GO AFTER SWITCHING IGNITION OFF AND THEN BACK ON. ACCELERATION HAS BEEN QUITE SLUGGISH. CAR IS AT THE DEALER NOW AND I WAS JUST TOLD IT IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. AFTER RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND THAT THIS IS HAPPENING QUITE A BIT TO OTHER FORD ESCAPE OWNERS-FRIGHTENING THAT I LET IT GO ON THIS LONG. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO THE TPA ON I-75 APPROACHING THE EXIT FOR I-4 WE SLOWED FOR A TRUCK THAT CUT US OFF. OUR VEHICLE SHIFTED DOWN AT LEAST TWO GEARS WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVER REV. WE TRIED TO SPEED UP, BUT THE ENGINE JUST REVED HIGHER. SO WE SLOWED WHILE EXITING ON TO THE RAMP FOR I-4. WE WERE ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT AND PULL OFF THE RAMP ROAD BEFORE GETTING ON TO I-4. WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES TO COMPOSE OURSELVES. I WAS HOPING THAT THE SYSTEM WOULD RESET ITSELF SO WE COULD CONTINUE. WE STARTED THE ENGINE AND WE CONTINUED TO THE AIRPORT WITHOUT ANYMORE PROBLEM. I DROVE HOME AND FOR TWO WEEKS DROVE WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL 8/26/2011. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AS BEFORE. THE ENGINE DOWN SHIFTED ABOUT 65 MPH AND THE ENGINE BEGAN REVVING. WE SLOWED THE VEHICLE AND CAME TO A STOP TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. AFTER EXCELERATING WE FELT THE ENGINE OVER REVVING BEFORE SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS UNPREDICTABLE AS TO WHEN A PROBLEM WILL OCCUR. IT?S A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN. WE NEED THIS PROBLEM FIXED WITH ASSURANCE THAT IT IS TRULY FIXED OR WE NEED RESTITUTION FROM FORD FOR SELLING US AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TT
2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT. STARTING WITH ABOUT 1200 MILES THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN HARD SHIFTS, HESITATION BETWEEN GEARS, JERKING HARD INTO REVERSE WHEN ENGAGING, HIGH SPEED SHIFTS JERK INTO GEAR SOUNDING LIKE THE REAR END IS FALLING OUT. FORD DEALER FIRST STATED IT WAS NORMAL, AFTER SEVERAL MORE COMPLAINTS THEY DECIDED TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. IT WORKED SMOOTHLY FOR ABOUT 200 MILES THEN STARTED THE SAME THINGS AGAIN, IT GETS MORE FREQUENT AS THE MILES MOUNT UP. MY WIFE IS AFRAID OF THE VEHICLE AND WILL NOT DRIVE OR RIDE IN IT. WHEN ROADS ARE WET THE SHIFTS ARE HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE WHEELS SPIN. LAST TIME THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE TRANSMISSION, IT NOW HESITATES WHEN PUTTING INTO GEAR. I WAS TURNING AROUND ON A ROAD THAT I SHOULD HAVE HAD AMPLE TIME BUT WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE IT DELAYED SO LONG TO ENGAGE THAT TRAFFIC WAS HEADING TOWARD ME. IF THE CAR SITS 2-3 DAYS, IT GIVES A LONG HESITATION TO GO INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. ALSO, HAVE EXPERIENCED SQUEALING COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, FORD HAS CHANGE THE BELT SEVERAL TIMES AND THE TENSIONER, IT LASTS FOR A FEW HUNDRED MILES AND STARTS AGAIN. ALL ITEMS I HAVE BEEN TOLD ARE NORMAL. I HAVE OWNED MORE THAN 20 CARS AND DO NOT FIND HARD SHIFTS, HESITATIONS, EXCESSIVE NOISE AND HARD CLUNKS TO BE NORMAL BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION. I PAID $25,000 FOR THIS CAR, I HAVE DRIVEN CARS THAT COST HALF THIS PRICE THAT HANDLED BETTER. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL FORD OWNER OF F150'S, EXPLORERS, EXPEDITIONS AND EVEN A COUPLE OF OLD F100'S. I HAD ALWAYS BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THEM. THE ESCAPE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO DOWNSIZE FOR OUR 2ND VEHICLE AND HAVE SOMETHING MORE ECONOMICAL, WE LIKED THEM WHEN WE RENTED THEM BUT THIS ONE HAS BEEN A VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AND TIME CONSUMING. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED(HYBRID) REAR WINDSHIELD GLASS EXPLODED SOMETIME DURING THE DAY WHILE I WAS WORKING A 12 HOUR SHIFT IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY CURRENT JOB. LOCATION BEING INDIANAPOLIS, IN, YESTERDAY WAS IN THE 90 DEGREE RANGE OF TEMPERATURE. WALK OUT TO MY CAR ABOUT 1:30 A.M. THIS MORNING AND SAW GLASS ALL OVER THE GROUND, LOOKED UP TO MY VEHICLE, AND NOTICED THE BACK WINDOW WAS STILL IN ONE PIECE IN THE MIDDLE AND GLASS CRACKED OUT ALL AROUND THE EDGES. NO SIGN OF AN ACCIDENT OR DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR OF MY VEHICLE EXCEPT LITTLE SCRATCHES FROM WHERE THE GLASS HAD BUSTED OUT. COMPONENTS HOLDING THE GLASS WERE HANGING OUT OF THE LATCH INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER COMPONENT, HINGES GLASS WAS ATTACHED TO., AND GLASS LATCH YOU WOULD USE TO OPEN THE COMPARTMENT. BEING THAT THIS HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY MORNING, NO REPLACEMENTS WERE DONE AS THE FORD DEALERSHIP WILL NOT BE OPEN UNTIL MONDAY. HAVE A 5 YEAR/100K WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE AND PLAN ON TAKING IT IN THE FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING. THE TRUNK COMPARTMENT HAD NOT BEEN USED ALL DAY OR EVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE ABOUT 11 AM EARLIER SATURDAY MORNING. HAD BEEN SITTING FOR CLOSE TO 13 HOURS. GLASS EXPLODED OUT ABOUT 4-5 FEET BEHIND THE VEHICLE. VERY DISPLEASED. *TT
WHILE DRIVING TO THE TPA ON I-75 APPROACHING THE EXIT FOR I-4 WE SLOWED FOR A TRUCK THAT CUT US OFF. OUR VEHICLE SHIFTED DOWN AT LEAST TWO GEARS WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVER REV. WE TRIED TO SPEED UP, BUT THE ENGINE JUST REVVED HIGHER. SO WE SLOWED WHILE EXITING ON TO THE RAMP FOR I-4. WE WERE ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT AND PULL OFF THE RAMP ROAD BEFORE GETTING ON TO I-4. WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES TO COMPOSE OURSELVES. I WAS HOPING THAT THE SYSTEM WOULD RESET ITSELF SO WE COULD CONTINUE. WE STARTED THE ENGINE AND WE CONTINUED TO THE AIRPORT WITHOUT ANYMORE PROBLEMS. I DROVE HOME, CALLED JOHN AT BRANDON FORD AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE NONE OF THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON DURING THE INCIDENT. HE SAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HOPEFULLY IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I DROVE FOR TWO WEEKS DROVE WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL 8/26/2011. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AS BEFORE. THE ENGINE DOWN SHIFTED ABOUT 65 MPH AND THE ENGINE BEGAN REVVING. WE SLOWED THE VEHICLE AND CAME TO A STOP TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. AFTER ACCELERATING WE FELT THE ENGINE OVER REVVING BEFORE SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS UNPREDICTABLE AS TO WHEN A PROBLEM WILL OCCUR. IT'S A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN. WE NEED THIS PROBLEM FIXED WITH ASSURANCE THAT IT IS TRULY FIXED OR WE NEED RESTITUTION FROM FORD FOR SELLING US AN UNSAFE VEHICLE.

I DROVE MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE TO THE OLYMPIC PENNINSULA FROM SEATTLE ON A SUNNY 70 DEGREE DAY (TAKING THE BREMERTON FERRY TO SAVE ON MILEAGE) AND DROVE ONE HOUR TO MY PROPERTY IN LILLIWAUP ON A PAVED ROAD. AFTER UNPACKING THE THE ESCAPE I CLOSED THE BACK HATCH AS USUAL AND IT EXPLODED BLOWING A MILLION PIECES OF GLASS 10 FEET IN ALL DIRECTIONS. I HAD MY DAUGHTER AND 3 YR OLD TWIN GRANDSONS WITH ME WHO WERE STANDING CLOSEBY. MIRACULOUSY NONE OF US WERE HURT BUT WE WERE ALL VERY SCARED AND SHAKEN! I DROVE MY ESCAPE TO BILL PIERRE FORD SERVICE CENTER TODAY AND TOLD MY STORY AND THEY ARE REPLACING FOR FREE AND GIVING ME A FREE RENTAL CAR UNTIL THE NEW BACK WINDOW COMES IN WHICH THEY SAID WOULD BE 2-3 WEEKS! THEY SAID THEY JUST HAD ANOTHER 2010 FORD ESCAPE THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES, HE HAS PLUGGED IT INTO THE COMPUTER, AND NOTHING SHOWS UP AS BEING WRONG. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR-ENDED BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN SLOWDOWN, PEOPLE TRYING TO SPEED AROUND ME, AND TRYING TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO STOP THE CAR. AAA HAS TOWED ME MULTIPLE TIMES. I READ UP ON THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET, AND THERE IS A MASSIVE NUMBER OF FORD ESCAPE OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM AND FORD REFUSES TO RECALL THE VEHICLE. SOMEONE WILL DIE IF THEY DON'T NOTIFY ALL 2010 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS OF THIS HUGE SAFETY MALFUNCTION AND FIX IT. SOME SAID IT IS A FAULTY THROTTLE BOTTLE ASSEMBLY, BUT THAT FORD SIMPLY REPLACES IT WITH THE SAME FAULTY ASSEMBLY AND TELLS THEM THERE'S NO GUARANTEE AS TO HOW LONG THE NEWER FAULTY ONE WILL LAST. OWNERS HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY GETTING MULTIPLE THINGS FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE FINALLY DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER TO GET IT REPLACED AND RISK LOSING POWER AT NIGHT ON A DANGEROUS ROAD AGAIN, OR TO SIMPLY SELL IT AND TAKE MY LOSSES. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD REFUSES TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE. I SPOKE WITH SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR IDENTICAL VEHICLE. I ALSO READ WHERE THE NHTSA HAD RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF A SIMILAR NATURE AND THAT FORD HAD ACKNOWLEDGED THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND HAD SUBSEQUENTLY RESOLVED IT IN LATER PRODUCTION. THEY ALSO SAY THAT THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES INDICATING A PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, THIS IS AN ACTIVE PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. THE ONLY FORD RESPONSE REGARDING THIS STALLING PROBLEM THAT I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO UNCOVER IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WHICH INDICATES A FAULTY CIRCUIT BOARD ON FORD ESCAPES BUILT BETWEEN JUNE 22 AND OCT 15, 2009, WHICH IS THE PERIOD DURING WHICH THIS CAR WAS BUILT. *TR
DRIVING OFF ROAD UP A STEEP INCLINE (40-45 DEGREES), THE VEHICLE CAME TO A HALT. THERE WASN'T ANY POWER GOING TO THE TIRES EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. THE ENGINE RPM WOULD ONLY REV UP TO ABOUT 1200 RPM. IT FELT AS IF THERE WAS A DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ENGINE AS THERE WAS NO POWER BEING DELIVERED TO THE TIRES. THE TIRES DID NOT LOOSE TRACTION OR SPIN EITHER. WHAT WAS ESPECIALLY UNSAFE ABOUT THIS IS THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS BACKING DOWN THE STEEP HILL I HAD TRIED TO ASCEND. I WAS TRYING TO BACK DOWN SLOWLY BY USING THE BRAKE, BUT MANY TIMES THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT AND SLIDE SOMETIMES SIDEWAYS WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL. I TRIED TO GO UP THE HILL AGAIN TO NO AVAIL. THIS VEHICLE IS USED BY THE US FOREST SERVICE IN WHICH MANY TIMES THE VEHICLE IS REQUIRED TO GO OF ROAD ON FOREST SERVICE ROADS. THERE IS A SECTION IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL ABOUT OFF ROAD DRIVING, BUT IT MAKES NO MENTION THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UP STEEP INCLINES.
I HAD JUST TURNED LEFT UNDER AN UNDERPAS AND WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE UNDER AN OVERPASS I REMEMBER THINKING "WOW. THIS IS APOWERFUL ENGINE." A CAR WAS COMING IN FRONT OF ME AND WHEN I BRAKE IT DID NOT SLOW DOWN AND I HIT THE CAR AND THAT'S ALL I REMEMBER WHEN I CAME TOO THE HORN WAS BLOWING AND TWO PEOPLE WERE POUNDING ON MY WINDOWS AND MY EMERGENCY BAG HAD DEPLOYED, I WAS RELEASED. THEY GAVE ME FIRST AID UNTIL THE AMBULANCE CAME, TREATED ME AND TOOK ME TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED. THEY KEPT ME OVERNIGHT. I BELIEVE BECAUSE I HAD A CONCUSSION. I WAS VERY CONFUSED. THEY KEPT ME OVERNIGHT AND WENT HOME THE NEXT DAY. THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WAS IN ACCESS OF $16,000.00. *TR
I JUST LEASED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE ONLY 10 MONTHS OLD. THE HATCH BACK WINDOW EXPLODED 3 TIMES. THE LAST 2 TIMES WAS IN A MATTER OF 2 MONTHS. THE LAST TIME IT EXPLODED BY DAUGHTER WAS BY THE GLASS AND MOST OF THE PIECES SHATTERED ON HER. THIS IS CRAZY. KNOW AS I GOOGLE I SEE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. I AM GOING TO FORD. WAS DRIVING MY NEW 2010 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID, WHICH I HAD JUST PURCHASED IN AUGUST, 2010 AT ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN - FOR NO APPARENT REASON - THE REAR WINDOW ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IMPLODED. IF A CHILD HAD BEEN IN BACKSEAT, THE CHILD WOULD HAVE A HIGHLY LIKELIHOOD OF INJURY TO EYES AND PROBABLY CUTS. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP - AND UPON THEIR INSPECTION - THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WINDOW MECHANISM; AND THEREFORE, FORD WOULD NOT FIX THE WINDOW FOR FREE. ENDED UP COSTING ME $500. I UNDERSTAND FORD HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE SAME TYPE OF FREAK WINDOW EXPLOSIONS/IMPLOSIONS IN THE FORD ESCAPE. FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO REPLACE THESE WINDOWS - THE DEALERSHIPS ARE OF NO HELP WHATSOEVER. *TR

MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE WITH REMOTE START MALFUNCTIONED IN 2010 AND 2011. THE UNIT STARTS THE VEHICLE WHEN FOBS ARE LAYING UNTOUCHED ON A TABLE AND AWAY FROM ALL POSSIBLE CONTACT. A REPROGRAMMING OF THE UNIT WAS COMPLETED IN 2010 BUT THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN IN JANUARY OF 2011. THE ENTIRE UNIT WAS REPLACED ON 1/12/2011. CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY. *TR
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES TOTAL LOSS OF POWER IN A RANDOM PATTERN, 2-5 TIMES A WEEK UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CLIMBING SLIGHT INCLINES, OVER BUMPS..ETC. RECOVER CAN TAKE A MINUTE TO HOURS. BASICALLY YOU CAN BE ON THE FREEWAY AND LOOSE ENGINE POWER FOR FORWARD MOTION, WHICH IS DANGEROUS. ALL FORD RECOMMENDED SOFTWARE AND THROTTLE BODY CHANGES HAVE BEEN INSTITUTED. DEALERS DON'T SEEM TO BE CAPABLE OR INTERESTED TO RESOLVE ISSUE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD GLASS WOULD BREAK WITH THE SLIGHTEST IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GLASS MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE WINDSHIELD GLASS WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,643. *JS UPDATED 5/11/12 *CN CONSUMER STATED THIS VEHICLE WINDSHIELD CRACKED EASIER THAN OTHER VEHICLES OWNED. GLASS MECHANIC STATED WINDSHIELD SHOULD BE ANGLED NOT STRAIGHT. DEALER APOLOGIZED AND THAT ALL COST WERE HER RESPONSIBILITY. UPDATED 6/7/12 *SD
I WENT TO OPEN UP MY REAL TAILGATE TO PLACE A BLANKET IN THE BACK OF THE ESCAPE. I CLOSED THE TAILGATE WITH NORMAL VELOCITY AND WHEN IT SHUT, THE REAR WINDOW IMPLODED. THE TAILGATE WAS NOT SLAMMED, THE WINDOW ITSELF DID NOT HAVE ANY DAMAGE PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR <1 MONTH. I ONLY PUT 312 MILES MYSELF ON THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD OF BEEN MORE DANGEROUS IF EITHER THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING OR CHILDREN WERE IN THE BACKSEAT.
MY WIFE IS THE MAIN DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE AND HAS TOLD ME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS INCLUDING THE MOST RECENT ON DECEMBER 18. 2013. THERE IS A SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ENGINE ACCELERATION SIMILAR TO WHAT THE TOYOTA VEHICLES HAVE HAD. AT THIS POINT IT ONLY OCCURS WHEN SLOWING DOWN. SHE APPLIES THE BRAKES BUT FINDS IT DIFFICULT TO SLOW WITH THE ENGINE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THIS LAST TIME I WAS RIDING WITH HER AND SHE SLAMMED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. I DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS TOO GOOD FOR THE TRANSMISSION BUT IT DID CORRECT THE DIFFICULTY AT THE TIME. HAVE ANY OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM ? *TR
WAS LOADING SHOPPING BAGS INTO THE BACK OF MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE WHEN I CLOSED THE HATCH, THE BACK WINDOW EXPLODED INTO A MILLION PIECES SENDING GLASS FLYING EVERYWHERE. I DID NOT SLAM THE BACK DOOR, I CLOSED IT THE SAME WAY I ALWAYS CLOSE IT. *TR
SIMPLY CLOSED THE REAR HATCH OF OUR 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND THE BACK GLASS EXPLODED IN OUR FACES. THERE WAS NOTHING IN VEHICLE THAT HIT OR CONTACTED THE GLASS WHATSOEVER. THERE WAS NO EXTRA EFFORT USED TO CLOSE HATCH. SIMPLY CLOSED IT AS WE ALWAYS DO (NOT SLAMMED) AND THE GLASS BLEW UP ALL OVER US, OUR GROCERIES AND THE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. WE WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGER WHO REPLIED "IT WAS BECAUSE YOU LIVE ON A DIRT ROAD". I SAID, "SO IF YOU LIVE ON A DIRT ROAD YOU SHOULD AVOID PURCHASING A FORD ESCAPE?". HE HAD NO REPLY TO THIS ONLY SAID FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE DAMAGE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF ESCAPES WITH THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND NOTHING SEEMS TO BE GETTING DONE ABOUT IT. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDOW AT THE COST OF ALMOST $500.00 WITH NO GUARANTEE IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN. LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE WEIGHT OF THE REAR WIPER MOTOR OVER THE LATCH IS TOO MUCH WEIGHT AND CAUSES STRESS ON WINDOW WHEN CLOSING. *TR
