IN DECEMBER 2010, I WAS CLOSING THE LIFTGATE ON MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND THE LIFTGATE GLASS SHATTERED AS IT CLOSED. THE GLASS SHATTERED INSIDE AND OUT. THE SHATTERING GLASS ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE PAINT ON THE LIFTGATE. THE GLASS HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE LIFTGATE REPAINTED. *TR
S10 DIRECT REPLY-LETTER TO THE ADMINISTRATOR FROM CONGRESSMAN STEARNS ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE HER ORDEAL WHILE DRIVING HER 2010 FORD ESCAPE *TGW CHEMICALS WERE DISCHARGED THROUGHOUT THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. DUE TO THE INHALATION OF THE CHEMICALS THE CONSUMER WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE DOCTORS INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT HER CONDITION HAD FORMED INTO PNEUMONIA AS A RESULT OF INHALING THE CHEMICALS. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE STATED THE DISCHARGE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVAPORATOR TUBE AND IT WAS COMMON. THEY ALSO STATED IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT AND IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. *JB
BRAKES WENT OUT AND WE ALMOST HIT SOMEONE BUT WE DIDN'T. BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE MESSAGE APPEARED WHEN IT HAPPENED BUT NO WARNING BEFORE. TURNED OFF CAR THEN TURNED ON AND BRAKES SEEM TO BE WORKING NOW INTERMITTENTLY. FORD ESCAPE 2010. HYBRID WITH ONLY 21000 HIGHWAY MILES. JUST HAD THE 20000 CHECK AT THE DEALER 2 WEEKS AGO AND WE WERE TOLD BRAKES WERE FINE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HAD NOT BEEN A RECALL SINCE MANY OTHER OWNERS ONLINE SEEMED TO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND WAS STANDING BESIDE MY FORD ESCAPE WHICH WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THE REAR GLASS JUST EXPLODED AS HE STOOD THERE. FOR NO REASON AT ALL THE WHOLE WINDOW BLEW OUT. IF HE HAD BEEN STANDING ANY CLOSER, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CUT BY GLASS OR IT COULD HAVE EXPLODED IN HIS FACE CAUSING EYE DAMAGE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN CLOSING THE TRUNK, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW BROKE CAUSING IT TO SHATTER AT LEAST 10 FEET AWAY. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,653. UPDATED 1/19/2010 *CN UPDATED 01/27/11
AFTER CLOSING LIFTGATE, REAR GLASS EXPLODED, SENDING SHARDS 10 FT. THE GAS CYLINDER STRUTS WERE THEN STUCK AT FULL EXTENSION OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THEY COULD NOT BE PUSHED IN WITH FORCE. WEATHER WAS DRY, 35 DEG.F. WE HAVE OWNED FOUR PREVIOUS ESCAPES AND HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEARS WOULD SHIFT HARD AND LONG. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THEN BACK TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER THE REBUILDING OF THE TRANSMISSION, THE GEAR CONTINUED TO SHIFT HARD AND LONG. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND WHILE PERFORMING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURE CODES GENERATED AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT PROBLEMS WITH THE GEARS SHIFTING CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
THE LEFT FRONT AXLE SEAL BEGAN LEAKING FLUID. *TR
NEW 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT, 4 CYLINDER, WAS PURCHASED IN SEPTEMBER, 2010. DURING LATE OCTOBER, 2010, A NOISE BECAME EVIDENT WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE A BRIEF RUBBING NOISE. WEATHER DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A FACTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED AT LEAST TWICE BY THE DEALER WHO DENIED HEARING THE NOISE AND DETERMINED IT WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. ONE EXPLANATION GIVEN BY THE DEALER IS THAT IT COULD BE THE RESULT OF THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THE DRIVER USES ON THE GAS AND BREAK PEDALS. THE NOISE HAS OCCURRED WITH VARIOUS DRIVERS, SO I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE DEALERS EXPLANATION. THE NOISE CONTINUES AS OF THIS DATE.

TRANSMISSION WILL TOTALLY DISENGAGE WHEN NEEDED THE MOST, SUCH AS ENTERING THE INTERSTATE. VERY SCARY SITUATION. DEALER SAYS NEEDS A COMPLETE OVERHAUL. ONLY 18,000 MILES. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED ON 29 JULY 2010. ON 20 SEP 2010 I NOTICED AS I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE IT JERKED VIOLENTLY AND SOUNDED LIKE THE BOTTOM FELL OUT OF THE CAR. WHEN I CAME TO A RED LIGHT IT SHIFTED HARD DOWN TO FIRST GEAR. I HAD MY DAD CHECK IT OUT AND IT DID THE SAME THING WITH HIM. HE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON 21 SEP 2010 AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM, IT WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO DO THAT. THEY CHECKED WITH FORD AND THERE WAS SOME ADJUSTMENTS THEY HAD TO DO TO THE COMPUTER. THIS DID NOT FIX PROBLEM AND THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE. THEY NOW HAVE TO TAKE OUT THE TRANSMISSION AND CHECK SOLENOIDS BEFORE FORD WILL SEND A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE, IF THE OPERATOR HAS TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE HAS 5000 MILES ON IT. *TR
I RENTED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE SUV FROM DOLLAR RENTAL CAR IN SAN JOSE. ON 9/11/10 AT ABOUT 6:00 AM AT MY HOTEL I WENT TO LOAD MY BAGS TO RETURN TO THE AIRPORT. BY ACCIDENT I UNLOCKED THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS WITH THE REMOTE. (I DID NOT THINK TO RE-LOCK IT BEFORE OPENING THE LIFTGATE.) AFTER MY BAGS WERE LOADED, I CLOSED THE LIFTGATE FIRMLY (NOT SOFTLY, BUT NOT LIKE KING KONG); UPON IMPACT OF CLOSING, THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS EXPLODED, SHOWERING GLASS ALL OVER THE PAVEMENT AND IN THE BACK / ON MY LUGGAGE. THERE HAD BEEN NO CONTACT WITH LUGGAGE IN THE BACK / MY BAGS WERE LOW-PROFILE (I HAVE PHOTOS TO PROVE; ALSO, I HAVE A 3RD-PARTY WITNESS WHO WAS LOADING HIS CAR SEVERAL SPACES AWAY.) THE AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 60 DEGREES; THE WEATHER WAS FAIR / CLEAR. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN ENTERED SINCE THE DAY BEFORE; I DID NOT EVER USE THE REAR DEFROST OR WIPER DURING THE COURSE OF MY THREE-DAY RENTAL. WHEN REVIEWING THE DAMAGE, I NOTED HOW HEAVY THE REAR WIPER MOTOR IS THAT IS ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO THE GLASS. THE SUSPENSION RODS FOR HOLDING THE LIFTGATE GLASS IN THE RAISED POSITION MUST BE VERY STRONG TO SUPPORT THAT MOTOR, ESPECIALLY WITH THE SHALLOW ANGLES INVOLVED. (OTHERS REPORTING EXPLODING REAR WINDOWS EXPLAIN THAT THE COMPRESSED GAS INSIDE THESE DEVICES CAUSES THE EXPLOSIVE NATURE OF THE FAILURE.) PRESUMABLY THIS FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE THE GLASS WAS NOT LOCKED, AS IT HAD NOT EXPLODED DURING PREVIOUS CLOSINGS OF THE LIFTGATE. THERE IS NO WARNING IN THE OWNERS MANUAL TO BE SURE THAT THE GLASS IS LOCKED BEFORE CLOSING THE LIFTGATE. POSSIBLY THERE WAS AN INVISIBLE DEFECT IN THE GLASS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. I WAS "BOOBY-TRAPPED" BY THIS CAR. IN MY 53 YEARS I HAVE NEVER DAMAGED A VEHICLE SIMPLY BY OPENING AND CLOSING ITS DOORS. THERE WERE NO OTHER FACTORS THAN THOSE DESCRIBED ABOVE; I HAVE PHOTOS, A 3RD PARTY WITNESS, AND WILL BE HAPPY TO TESTIFY THESE EVENTS IN COURT. THE VEHICLE JERK AND LUNGES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. SHIFTS HARD DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AND LUNGES AND JERKS VERY VIOLENTLY DURING TAKE-OFF AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS VEHICLES HAS BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WITH NO SUCCESS FOR REPAIR. EVEN MORE AGGRAVATING IS THAT WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR THEY EXPECT YOU TO REPLACE THE GAS IN THE LOANER WHICH IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO AS NICE OF A CAR THAT YOU ARE HAVING REPAIRED YET THEY DO NOT REPLACE YOUR GAS OUT OF YOUR CAR. VERY FRUSTRATING. THE MECHANICS ACT LIKE THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND HAVE TRIED VARIOUS THINGS TO FIX IT TO NO AVAIL. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE JERKS SO HARD IT GIVES YOU WHIPLASH. *TR
1ST GOT ESCAPE HAD TO HAVE SOME REPROGRAMMING AFFECTING THE TRANSMISSION. 2ND HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR. 3RD MY DASH LIGHTS BLINK FROM BRIGHT TO DIM DURING THE DAYTIME/ 4TH HAD TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACE - WHEN I PUT MY KEY IN--WOULD NOT TURN-. 5TH EVEN AFTER HAVING THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR-STILL CHANGES HARD. 6TH SOMETIMES WHEN PARKED ON AND INCLINE-PLACE IN DRIVE-WILL MAKE A "POP" NOISE. STILL DO NOT FEEL LIKE MY CAR IS WORKING/RUNNING AT A 100%. I DID TAKE OUT ANOTHER WRTY--JUST INCASE--HOWEVER IT IS ALMOST UP. MY HUSBAND & I HAVE DROVE FORDS FOR THE PAST 35 YEARS-AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY ESCAPE. 7TH USE STABILITY CONTROL ONCE---IS IT SUPPOSE TO SOUND LIKE THE CAR IS BREAKING INTO? *TR
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS SLAMMED VIOLENTLY INTO GEAR WHILE BEING DRIVEN A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND SHE THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD HIT HER FROM BEHIND AND SHE ACTUALLY HURT HER NECK BECAUSE THE JERKING WAS SO VIOLENT. THREE OF THE 4 OTHER TIMES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED HAVE NOT BEEN AS VIOLENT BUT IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO (AT ABOUT 11,000) MILES AND IT WAS VERY VIOLENT (AND MY WIFE GOT 'JERKED' AGAIN). *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE HAS A FAST IDLE SPEED, IGNITION KEY LOCK PROBLEM AND A SOFT BRAKE PROBLEM. *TGW THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE IDLE SPEED LOWERED TO 500 RPM. THE DEALER STATED THAT COULD NOT BE DONE BECAUSE THE IDLE WAS SET AT THE FACTORY. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL FORWARD AND BACKWARDS DUE TO THE FAST IDLE SPEED. HE ALMOST HIT THE BACK OF A BUILDING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. THE KEY WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN IN THE IGNITION WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO START THE VEHICLE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE SUN ROOF "EXPLODED" INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED BY THE GLASS DUE THE COVER ON THE SUN ROOF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHO TOOK PICTURES OF THE SHATTERED GLASS AND SENT THE IMAGES TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO DEFECT ON THE GLASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO DEBRIS ON THE ROAD OR ANYTHING THAT HIT THE SUNROOF TO CAUSE IT TO EXPLODE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VEER TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE CONTACT HAD A HARD TIME TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WHERE AN UNKNOWN STEERING MECHANISM WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,500.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED WHEN HE SIMULTANEOUSLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE EXTREMELY CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER AND DUE TO HIS SIZE 11.5 SHOE SIZE, HE WOULD OFTEN DEPRESS BOTH PEDALS UNINTENTIONALLY. I RENTED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED AND A 2010 FORD TAURUS LIMITED THIS WEEK FOR VACATION. AS I WAS OPENING THE LIFTGATE ON THE ESCAPE, THE REAR WINDOW MAKE A CREAK NOISE AND EXPLODED INTO MY FACE. I HAVE CUT ALL OVER MY HANDS, BUT THANK GOD IT AVOIDED MY EYES. MY 10 YEAR OLD SONG HAD GASHES ON HIS LEGS FROM WHERE THE GLASS FELL AS WELL. I'VE BEEN LOOKING AROUND AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPES. TAKE CARE OF TOYOTA BUT TAKE CARE OF FORD TOO! *TR
NO ACCELERATOR RESPONSE IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEFTHAND TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. NO ENGINE REVS THEN ENGINE ROARED AND I WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE MY TURN. DEALER SAW NO ENGINE CODES,NO NOTES,A 1.5 MILE TEST DRIVE SHOWED NOTHING,NO NOTES WITH VIN AND FORD STATED NO KNOWN ISSUES. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THEN? *TR

FROM DAY 1, 365 MILES, AS I TURNED LEFT ON A WIDE TURN OR SHORT TIGHT TURN I HEAR A CLUNK NOISE FELT IN THE FLOOR BOARDS. AFTER 10,000 MILES I CAN MAKE IT DO IT ON COMMAND. ONLY LEFT TURNS. FORD HAS REPLACE SWAY BAR BUSHINGS AND ONLY LASTS 2-3 DAYS, NOISE RETURNS. THIS WILL BE THE 3RD ATTEMPT TO PUT "FRAME EARS" ON TO DETERMINE SOURCE OF NOISE. MAYBE I SHOULD STOP TURNING LEFT? *KB
ENGINE RACING AND JUMPING WHILE DRIVING. REVERSE MAKING LOUD NOISE. REPORTED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. JOLTED AT A STOP AFTER REMOVING FOOT FROM BRAKE FORCING DRIVER TO TURN INTO CURB. HAD TO FILE CLAIM WITH INSURANCE COMPANY TO GET CAR FIXED. DEALER CLAIMS NO ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION. DID TESTING W/O INSURANCE ENGINEER PRESENT AS AGREED TO. *TR
FORD ESCAPE (2010) APPEARS TO HAVE FREQUENT WINDSHIELD GLASS BREAKAGE COMPARED TO OTHER VEHICLES. A VERY TINY SHIP CAN CAUSE LARGE WINDSHIELD CRACKS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS. I NOTICED FROM A GENTLEMAN FROM THE STREET AND TOLD ME AS I WAS PUMPING IT WAS RUNNING OUT ALSO YESTERDAY MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON
PURCHASED MAY 30, 2012....LESS THAN ONE MONTH LATER, I WAS DRIVING ONTO A RAMP AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CAR JUST STOPPED BUT I COULD STEER SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OVER. A STATE POLICEMAN CAME BY AND I SAID I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH MY MECHANIC. APPARENTLY, THE COMPUTER HAD SHUT DOWN AND THE ISSUE MAY HAVE BEEN THAT THE KEY I WAS USING WAS NOT PROGRAMMED?. I FOLLOWED STEPS TO PROGRAM KEYS AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR MONTHS UNTIL THIS PAST APRIL, 2013. DRIVING ALONG ON A MAIN ROAD, THE CAR DID IT AGAIN. COULD STEER IT BUT COULD NOT REPAIR SAME WAY AS BEFORE. I KNOW COMPUTERS AND SAY THAT WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, DISCONNECT IT. SO WE DISCONNECTED BATTERY AND WERE ABLE TO START CAR AND GET HOME BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN ARRIVING AT MY HOUSE. OF COURSE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT BACK IN FEBRUARY. MY MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE DID NOT KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED. I DO REGULAR MAINTENANCE THAT IS REQUIRED AND TAKE CARE OF THE CAR. I ALSO KEEP A LOG. IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES SINCE, YESTERDAY AND TODAY, JUNE 17, 2013. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED USED AND WAS TWO YEARS OLD. THE PREVIOUS DRIVER DID NOT HAVE IT FOR VERY LONG BEFORE TURNING IT IN. I ASKED FOR THE CAR FACTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO REPAIRS DONE. NOT EVEN SURE IF THEY WERE THE ACTUAL CAR FACTS. *TR
PURCHASED NEW FORD ESCAPE 06/01/10, AT APPROX 800 MILES IT DEVELOPED A METAL TO METAL CLICKING SOUND WITHIN STEERING COLUMN WHEN MANUVERING IN AND OUT OF PARKING LOTS AND SLOW SPEED TURNS. BROUGHT ESCAPE TO DEALER ON 06/21/10, DEALER SAID THEY HAVE TO REALIGN MOTOR TO FRAME. NOISE RETURNED AND ESCAPE WAS RETURNED TO DEALER ON 07/27/10. DEALER REPLACED STEERING SHAFT AND COUPLING. NOISE RETURNED AGAIN, ESCAPE RETURNED TO DEALER ON 08/30/10, THIS TIME THEY ARE REPLACING WHOLE STEERING COLUMN. AS OF 09/13/10 DEALER STILL HAS ESCAPE. FORD ISSUED SSM # 21321 BUT THIS WAS A DIFFERENT KIND OF NOISE AND SERVICE MANAGER AGREED. TO ME NOISE SOUNDED LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK WAS TRYING TO ENGAGE AND THAT MAY BE WHY THEY ARE REPLACING STEERING COLUMN. *TR
UNEXPECTED GLARE FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BLIND YOU WHILE DRIVING THRU WINDING ROADS IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. THE CURVATURE OF THE LOWER RIGHT AND LEFT CORNERS OF THE PANEL NEEDS TO BE MADE OF A NON-GLARE MATERIAL. I AM GOING TO PLACE SOMETHING IN EACH CORNER TO KEEP THEM FROM REFLECTING THE SUN BACK IN ANYONE'S EYES. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 FORD ESCAPE THAT WAS RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE ON A TRIP THIS WEEKEND, THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED UP AND ALMOST CAUSED A TREMENDOUS REAR END ACCIDENT. I LEFT THE CAR 100 MILE FROM HOME BECAUSE NOW FORD HAS TO DO THE WORK AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS OTHER PROBLEMS THAT THEY ARE NOT FIXING WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

AS HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS SCHEDULE TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE BODY DAMAGE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE INSPECTED FOR INTERNAL FAILURES. THE CONTACT AND A PASSENGER WERE REPORTED INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS INSPECTED FIVE TIMES PRIOR IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V222000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,000.

NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT OUR FORD ESCAPE ON JUNE 1ST, 2010, WE HAVE HAD THE CAR SURGE WHEN STARTING OFF AND HAVING TO APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE WE FIRST GOT THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO FILED A REPORT (ODI # 10520754) FOR THE ENGINE GOING TO IDLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BECAUSE OF THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDING REPLACING. FROM A DEAD STOP, WHEN WE WANT TO JUST MOVE UP A LITTLE BECAUSE THE CAR IN FRONT OF US HAS, WE HAVE PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN BRAKE AND THE CAR SURGES FORWARD LIKE I MASHED THE GAS HARDER. SEVERAL TIMES, THIS HAS CAUSED US TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US BUT RARELY CAUSING DAMAGE. THE SURGING HAS HAPPENED PROBABLY 150 TIMES OVER THE 3 YEARS WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. BOTH MY WIFE AND I HAVE BUMPED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF US ABOUT 10 TIMES ONLY CAUSING MINIMAL DAMAGE AND NEVER FILED ON ANY INSURANCE. THE FORD DEALER IN MEMPHIS (DOBBS FORD WOLFCHASE) TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE. THIS WAS OUR FIRST FWD VEHICLE WE HAVE OWNED SINCE 1994. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,151.

SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IT HAD BEGUN PULLING TO THE RIGHT AFTER THE DEALER ALIGNED THE WHEELS FIVE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,842.

THIS COMPLAINT INVOLVES THE SPONTANEOUS EXPLOSION OF THE REAR CARGO DOOR WINDOW IN A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE EXPLOSION OCCURRED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MY FAMILY MEMBERS SUFFERED VERY MINOR CUTS AND SCRATCHES. SOME OF OUR PERSONAL PROPERTY WAS RUINED BY THE MILLIONS OF GLASS SLIVERS THAT WENT EVERYWHERE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 864.
WINDSHIELD HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CREATES A HEAT SHIMMER LIKE EFFECT WHEN LOOKING THROUGH IT. THIS CAUSES A DISTORTION DURING THE DAY, BUT DISTORTION INCREASES AT NIGHT OR RAINY WEATHER. FORD HAS REPLACED THIS ONCE UNDER WARRANTY WITH ANOTHER FORD WINDSHIELD. NEW WINDSHIELD HAS SAME DEFECT. *TR

PURCHASED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE NEW, 4 MONTHS AFTER THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED AND THEY CLAIMED IT COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE IT WAS DAMAGED BY AN OBJECT MOST LIKELY FROM THE ROAD. DAMAGES ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE SERVICE TECH WENT ON TO SAY THAT THE GRILL DOES NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION FOR THE AC CONDENSER THEREFORE EVEN IF I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED AND DIDN'T REPLACE THE GRILL, IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN OVER 3 MONTHS AND FORD STILL REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. IT IS NOW ON AVERAGE 102 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I CANNOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE HEAT AND INABILITY TO USE THE AC. *TR
