TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AROUND A CURVE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE CONTACT TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,196.
DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET ROAD AT NIGHT 55 MPH A DEER JUMPED FROM SIDE OF THE ROAD TO CROSS HIT THE DEER HAD TO PULL OVER CAR STARTED SMOKING RADIATOR FLUID EVERYWHERE THE CAR WAS TOTALED. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. I WAS HURT AND I HAD 4 PASSENGER, ALL WERE WEARING SEATBELTS INCLUDING MYSELF. I DIDN'T FILE A POLICE REPORT AS I FIGURED IT WAS A DEER WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO ARREST THE DEER. I COULD NOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS OR PAYMENTS FOR THE VEHICLE ANYMORE SO I VOLUNTARY GAVE BACK MY VEHICLE TO THE COMPANY.
FIRST DATE OF OCCURRENCE: 7/22/15 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH AND IT SEEMED AS THOUGH EVEN THOUGH I HAD FUEL IN MY GAS TANK, THAT THE CAR WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS. I PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN AND IT RAN FINE. (VEHICLE BEGAN KIND OF SPUTTERING AND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PETAL, IT WAS LIKE IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL.) WAS DRIVING A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. SECOND DATE OF OCCURRENCE: 7/24/15 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH AND THE SAME ISSUE MENTIONED ABOVE HAPPENED. WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON, IT TOOK IT A FEW SECONDS TO TURN BACK ON. THIRD DATE OF OCCURRENCE: 7/25/15 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH AND THE SAME ISSUE MENTIONED ABOVE HAPPENED. TOOK VEHICLE TO A SHOP ON 7/27/15 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. FOURTH DATE OF OCCURRENCE: 7/29/15 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH AND THE SAME ISSUE MENTIONED ABOVE HAPPENED. DROVE APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURRED. FIFTH DATE OF OCCURRENCE: 7/30/15 I WAS DRIVING 40-50 MPH AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURRED. HAD A DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE HOOKED UP TO VEHICLE AND IT READ ERROR CODE P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WERE ABOUT TO STALL. I PRESSED THE CLUTCH AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL, BUT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE (WHICH HESITATED TO CATCH FOR SEVERAL SECONDS). UPON THE VEHICLE STARTING, I AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. AT FIRST THE VEHICLE SEEMED OK, BUT SHORTLY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT INCIDENT, HOWEVER THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AND IT READ ERROR CODE P2111. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT GIVE ME PROBLEMS AGAIN UNTIL AUGUST 20, 2015. AS I ACCELERATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE VEHICLE AGAIN LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE (THOUGH IT DID NOT STALL). I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISENGAGE THE ENGINE. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, AND WITH A HESITATED "CATCH" THE ENGINE RESTARTED. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXISTING AND KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD (NHTSA PE13003), HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY MY LOCAL DEALER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THE WARRANTY EXTENSION OFFERED UNDER THAT INVESTIGATION DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE (WHICH FALLS WITHIN ALL OF THE GUIDELINES FOR YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, AND MILEAGE).
TRAVELING HOME ON ROUTE 1 NORTH, MASSACHUSETTS IN TRAFFIC ABOUT 20MPH CAR BEGAN TO STALL AND SPUTTER AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. BROUGHT CAR TO AUTO PARTS STORE FOR FREE DIAGNOSTIC IMMEDIATELY AND INSPECTION SHOWED "POWER TRAIN ISSUE" (ARE YOU KIDDING ME? JUST PURCHASED THIS USED CAR 3 MONTHS AGO!) NEXT DAY, SAME THING HAPPENED TWICE. CALLED THE DEALER WHO SOLD THE CAR TO ME CANNOT INSPECT THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. FORD ADMITS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) BUT HAS NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLES.
TODAY WAS THE WORST IT HAS BEEN, IT AL STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, IT JUST HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING OF ANY KIND. BUT TODAY THE FIRST TIME WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, LUCKILY I HAD A PLACE TO PULL OFF, TURN OFF ENGINE SIT AND START IT BACK, NOT IMMEDIATE I MAY SAY ( A LITTLE HESITATION IN THE STARTING) THEN THE SECOND TIME (TODAY) HAPPENED IN AN INTERSECTION SAME PROCESS, BUT THIS TIME WAS VERY SCARY, SEEING HOW CARS WERE COMING AT ME HONKING AND GOING AROUND ME. THEN THE THIRD TIME (TODAY) WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, WITH MY GRANDSON IN THE CAR I MIGHT ADD, THIS ACCRUED NOT 30 MINUTES AFTER THE 2ND INCIDENT. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND REPEAT THE PROCESS TO GET GOING AGAIN. IF THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR, IT COULD TURN INTO A VERY BAD ACCIDENT.
AS I WAS DRIVING AT 50-55 MILES AN HOUR MY VEHICLE BUCKED AND LOST POWER AND WHEN ACCELERATING IT FEELS AS IF THE CAR IS GOING TO STALL. WHEN STARTING UP FROM A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR WILL HESITATE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND BUCKS.
SEVERAL TIMES WHEN DRIVING THE CAR AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (55+) THE SMELL OF GAS FUMES ARE VERY STRONG INSIDE THE CAR. THIS IS ESPICALLY TRUE WHEN THE A/C/ IS ON HIGH.
GOING SOUTH ON I81 TO WATERTOWN, NY. VEHICLE QUIT AND I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. TRACTOR-TRAILER BEHIND ME SWERVED TO MISS ME. ALMOST HIT A CAR COMING OFF THE EXIT RAMP, HAD NO POWER TO EXCELERATE TO GET BY HIM. COULD HAVE BEEN A WOPPER OF AN ACCIDENT.
WAS DRIVING THROUGH TOWN, VEHICLE REVVED UP AND THEN STALLED. STOPPED VEHICLE, TURNED OFF, AND RESTARTED. STARTED UP WITHOUT AN ISSUE. 3 DAYS LATER, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, VEHICLES WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE LOST POWER. RESTARTED OKAY. AS THE WEEK PROGRESSED, VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER SEVERAL TIMES DURING MY 20 MILE TRIP TO WORK AND BACK, 40 MILES ROUND TRIP. THEN ON 7/7/15, VEHICLE LOST POWER 4 TIMES ON MY WAY HOME, THE SECOND TIME IT LOST POWER THE ENGINE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. IT ALSO TOOK LONGER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. CHECKED COMPUTER FOR CODE. CODE STATES P 2112, TAC SYSTEM STUCK SHUT. LOOKED UP THIS CODE AND INFO, AND IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. I FOUND SOMETHING THAT STATES THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART, BUT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED SO I CAN DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I'M NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING IT AS I HAVE POOR SIGNAL ON MY CELL PHONE BETWEEN HOME AND WORK AND DONT WANT TO BE STRANDED. PLEASE HELP ME IN ANYWAY YOU CAN.
ALL 4 TIRES HAVE CRACKS IN THE THREAD AND SIDE WALLS
THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CORRODED ON THE VEHICLE CAUSING IT TO STUTTER AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE ISSUE OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE OR FUNCTION PROPERLY. IT WAS CLEARLY UNSAFE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A MILD CONCUSSION AND BRUISES TO THE BODY THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 20 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED BUT FAILED TO INFLATE AND THE SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE PASSENGER SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
DRIVING TO WORK MY ESCAPE LOST POWER AND SPUTTERED TO A STOP. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I SHUT OFF THE RADIO, FAN AND VEHICLE. THE TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND IT RESUMED RUNNING. I SEE THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. HOPEFULLY, THIS WILL BE MY LAST OR THAT A RECALL WILL COME FORWARD AS THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH FORDS. *TR
AN O2/EXHAUST SENSOR & FUEL INDUCTION KIT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS SUV HAS ONLY 13700 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE PARTS WERE FAULTY. MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WENT OUT LAST JULY 2014, SO IT WASN'T COVERED. I FEEL THAT FORD NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE IF OTHER VEHICLES HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. I SHOULD ALSO BE REIMBURSED FOR MY COST. *TR
I WAS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND TURNING LEFT TO MAKE THE TURN AND GO UP THE HILL. THE CAR LOST POWER AND I ACTUALLY THOUGHT IT HAD STALLED. THE CAR HAS DONE THIS FOR ME NUMEROUS TIMES AND I AM AFRAID IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHERE SOMEONE WILL HIT ME IN THE REAR WHEN MY CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE
I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO I-495 IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA, ATTAINING A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL (BECAUSE I HAD REACHED MY DESIRED SPEED), THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY. I APPLIED FULL PRESSURE TO THE BREAK WITH BOTH FEET, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD. I ATTAINED A SPEED OF ALMOST 100 MPH, EVEN WITH BOTH FEET FULLY DECOMPRESSING THE BREAK. BOTH SHOULDERS OF THE INTERSTATE HAD CONSTRUCTION, SO THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO UTILIZE ON EITHER SIDE. AFTER WEAVING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC, I FINALLY FOUND A SUITABLE OFF RAMP. AFTER PULLING THE EMERGENCY BREAK, PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND EVENTUALLY PARK, THE CAR CAME TO A VERY ABRUPT STOP (JUST BEFORE I REACHED A BUSY INTERSECTION AT THE END OF THE OFF RAMP). THE BREAKS CONTINUED TO SMOKE FOR ANOTHER 45 MINUTES AFTER COMING TO A STOP AND CUTTING THE ENGINE. I DO NOT KNOW HOW I'M ALIVE, BUT I AM GRATEFUL. *TR
THE REAR LIFT GATE SEAL LEAKS AND LEAVE A PUDDLE OF WATER AROUND THE REAR LATCH. SOMETIMES THE CARPET IN THE BACK NEAR THE REAR GATE IS DAMP. *TR
WHILE SLOWING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN A TURNING LANE BEHIND TWO OTHER VEHICLES, THE SUBJECT VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION SLIPPED FROM GEAR AND DISENGAGED THE ENGINE. WHEN THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION REENGAGED THE ENGINES REMAINING TORQUE NOT YET DISPLACED, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD CAUSING A LOSE OF CONTROL AND THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP FROM ATTEMPTING THE BRAKING ACTION ALREADY TAKING PLACE. THE SUBJECT VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPT. TO HAVE ITS TRANSMISSION THAT PREVIOUSLY AND COMPLETELY BURNT ITS CLUTCHES OUT AT ONLY 14,775 MILES DRIVEN. THE SYMPTOMS OF THE TRANSMISSION BURNING THE CLUTCHES OUT WAS PRESENTING ITSELF IN AN INCREASING MANNER FROM AROUND 5,000 MILES. THE NEWLY REBUILT TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ONLY 21,150 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE TOTAL LOSS INCIDENT. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER BECAME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

WENT TO THE DEALER, [XXX] , TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY TOLD ME MY MAINE STATE INSPECTION WAS DUE. THE INSPECTION FAILED DUE TO CORROSION ON THE LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING. THERE IS A RECALL ON EARLIER ESCAPE MODELS, BUT MY 2011 MODEL WAS NOT COVERED. IT COST ME AROUND 600 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN GARAGE. THE REAR HATCH WINDOW EXPLODED INTO HUNDRED'S OF PIECES. LOW TEMPERATURE LAST NIGHT 50 DEGREES, 60 DEGREES AT TIME OF INCIDENT. *TR
SLOWING DOWN IN MY FORD ESCAPE THE TRANSMISSION INTERMEDIATELY DOWN SHIFTS SO HARD THAT IT SHAKES MY CAR AND MAKES A LOUD NOISE. HAVE BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND ARE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE INTERMEDIATE PROBLEM. FIRST TIME THEY RESET SOME SORT OF CHIP IN THE TRANSMISSION AND IT HELPED FOR ONLY A SHORT WHILE. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME AND IS INTERMEDIATE, THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT DRIVE IT LONG ENOUGH TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE REAR TAILGATE WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE WITH THE GARAGE DOOR CLOSED. HAPPENED SUNDAY AT 6:45 PM WITH AN OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE OF 45 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. CAR HAD BEEN IN THE GARAGE ALL WEEKEND, SINCE FRIDAY EARLY AFTERNOON. NO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE CAUSED THE BREAKAGE TO HAPPEN. GLASS FILLED THE BACK OF THE CAR AND THE ENTIRE BACK OF THE GARAGE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SINCE JANUARY, VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY STALL WITH NO WARNING. FIRST ALERTED WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS AND VEHICLE KEPT SLOWING DOWN THEN ENGINE, BATTERY, OIL LIGHTS LIT UP. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTARTED. NOTICED WHEN IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY SINCE, THAT THE RPM DROP QUICKLY BELOW 1. HAS BEEN IN FORD SERVICES DEPARTMENT 3 TIMES WITHIN THE PAST 2-3 WEEKS. THE LAST TIME STALL OCCURRED WAS ON DC BELTWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN FAST MOVING TRAFFIC - PANIC EXPERIENCE! IT WAS TOWED TO FORD, KEPT 4 DAYS - DROVE AROUND CLAIMED COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. THEY WANT ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK. I AM IN FEAR CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, INJURING MYSELF, PASSENGERS INCLUDING MY GRANDCHILDREN, AND OTHER DRIVERS WITH THEIR PASSENGERS. CAR WAS PARKED AND CLOSED REAR LIFT GATE AND REAR WINDOW EXPLODED ON ME. *TR
I JUST GOT OFF THE FREEWAY ON RAMP AND SLOWED FOR TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC JUST STARTED TO GO SO, I JUST TOOK MY FOOT OF THE BRAKE AND SLOWLY PROCEEDED TO MOVE, WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE I WAS THROWN FORWARD AND OUT OF MY SEAT. THE VIOLENT IMPACT PUSHED MY VEHICLE INTO A TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME, THAT IMPACT CAUSED ME TO FLY BACKWARDS AND MY DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE. DROVE A LITTLE OVER 2 MILES , EVERYTHING WAS FINE .CAME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I STARTED TO PULL OUT AND I NOLONGER HAD ANY POWER STEERING AND THERE WAS NOW A LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ADVISING OF N TRACTION OFF. I WENT HOME AND WAITED TILL MORNING AND DROVE TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC .THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO FORD BECAUSE THIS WAS A RECALL AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY FORD. THE FORD DEALER SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE I HAD BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THAT RECALL LAST YEAR WHEN THEY SENT ME THE NOTICE AND MY STEERING COLUMN AND ELECTRICAL WAS OK AT THAT TIME. SO ONE YEAR LATER AND $1100. LATER THIS PART BREAKS AND FORD DOES NOT THINK IT IS RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE IT WASN'T BROKE WHEN THEY LOOKED AT IT A YEAR AGO. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR IF SOMEONE HAD PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AS IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL TO AVOID ANYTHING.I FRRL THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING IN THIS ESCAPE AND FORD KNOWS ABOUT IT AND IS NOT STANDING BEHIND IT RECALL/. THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS HIS THIRD SUCH PROBLEM IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS AND FORD WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM I DID CONTACT FORD MOTOR CORPORATE ABOUT THIS BILL AND THEY TOLD ME THE PROGRAM WAS CLOSED BECAUSE MY CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED AND DID NOT NEED THIS WORK DONE AT THAT TIME. *TR

TRUCK JUMPS AND JERKS AT INITIAL ACCELERATION. PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. WHEN IT DOES, WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND SOMETIMES CHECK ENGINE COMES ON. WHILE TRAVELING FROM VIRGINIA TO MICHIGAN ON PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE AT A SPEED OF 75 MPH MY CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHED OFF AND THE VEHICLE DECELERATED. LIKE MANY OTHER REPORTS I HAVE READ THE VEHICLE CEASED TO RESPOND ON 11/24/2014. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING (ROUGH), THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON I WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY POWER WHEN PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. I NOTICED A LIGHT GAS SMELL IN MY GARAGE ONE DAY AND FIGURED PERHAPS BECAUSE MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A GAS LID THAT IS WHY I WAS SMELLING IT. THE NEXT DAY, MY DAUGHTER USED MY CAR TO PICK UP A GAS GRILL FOR A CHRISTMAS GIFT WHICH SHE LEFT IN MY CAR OVERNIGHT. WHEN THE SERVICE MAN CAME NEAR IT HE SAID TO STEP AWAY FROM THIS CAR AS IT WAS DANGEROUS TO BE NEAR IT AND THAT I HAD TO LEAVE IT. AFTER A DAY OR SO, THEY TOLD ME THAT SOME KIND OF "PEBBLE" MUST HAVE RUBBED A HOLE IN MY FUEL LINE AND THAT IS WOULD BE $634.62 FOR PARTS AND REPAIR. I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN ON A FIXED INCOME AND I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS. HOW CAN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN AND PUT PEOPLES LIVES IN DANGER? I WAS DRIVING ON A REGULAR STREET IN MY AREA AT THE RATE OF 35. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 40, SO I DECIDED TO INCREASE MY SPEED TO THAT OF THE SPEED LIMIT. WHEN I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE, IT APPEARED THAT THE ENGINE WAS JUST SPINNING, BUT NOT ACCELERATING, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT JUST LUNGED FORWARD, NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE. IT SEEMED TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY AROUND THE FIRST OF THIS YEAR. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP (BILL COLLINS FORD) TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION. THEY KEPT IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THEY EVEN LOOKED AT IT. THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED SOFTWARE UPDATES WHICH I HAD TO PAY ABOUT $160 FOR. I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER AND IT WAS THE SAME THING - NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE AFTER THEY KEPT IT SEVERAL DAYS AGAIN. THERE APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION NEEDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE SO FREQUENTLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
