I INVESTIGATED A TRAFFIC COLLISION INVOLVING A 2011 FORD ESCAPE THAT SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE DURING THE EVENT. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE COLLISION AFTER THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE FRONT BUMPER AREA TO INCLUDE THE BUCKLING OF THE HOOD AREA. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE VEHICLE DAMAGE I CAN E-MAIL SHOWING THE VEHICLE AND DAMAGE SUSTAINED. INJURIES WERE INCURRED FROM PARTIES IN BOTH VEHICLES (2 CAR COLLISION). WHILE DRIVING ALONG MY FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY REFUSED TO ACCELERATE, I WAS HOLDING THE GAS TO THE FLOOR AND IT WOULDN'T BUDGE. IT WAS IDLING STRANGELY AND SURGING. A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED IN THE SCREEN ON THE DASH. I WAS ON A HILL AND WAS UNABLE TO PULL OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. I WAITED A FEW MOMENTS AND RESTARTED THE ESCAPE, IT WENT AND THEN CONTINUED TO DECELERATE ONCE AGAIN. I WILL BE TAKING THIS BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED. BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED, UPON RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I FOUND MANY MORE COMPLAINTS ONLINE. WHY HASN'T THIS ISSUE BEEN RECALLED? IT IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE ESCAPE CUTS OFF AT THE WRONG TIME AND GETS SOMEONE KILLED. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE IT BECOME AN EPIDEMIC LIKE THE CHEVY COBALT. *TR
I WAS CROSSING A HIGHWAY AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS I HAD NO POWER! JUST A FEW WEEKS BEFORE IT WAS AT FORD FOR A TORQUE AND STEERING RECALL. WHEN I CALLED FORD TO INFORM THEM WHAT HAPPENED THEY SAID I WILL HAVE TO PAY $130 FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE IT! I'M NOT HAPPY WITH FORDS RESPONSE. THIS IS A REAL DANGER AND THEY NEED TO TAKE IT SERIOUS! *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I HEARD A SOUND SIMILAR TO THE CAR'S AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THAT I HAD NO ACCELERATION AS I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL. I STOPPED AT A SAFE LOCATION AND SAT WITH THE CAR IDLING FOR ABOUT A MINUTE. DURING THIS TIME I NOTICED THE RPMS HUNTING AT IDLE SPEED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE TURNED OVER A FEW MORE TIMES THAN USUAL BEFORE IT FINALLY CAUGHT. AFTER THAT, I HAD NO OTHER PROBLEMS FOR THE TWO MORE HOURS I DROVE IT. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY GIVING EITHER A FALSE SIGNAL OR TEMPORARILY LOSING SIGNAL. *TR
WHILE ENTERING A MAIN ARTERY OF TRAFFIC FROM A SIDE ROAD, DURING THE ACCELERATION BETWEEN 35-45MPH, THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED FROM THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE, NOT BEING SUBJECT TO TRANSFERRING ENERGY TO THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO GAIN RPM EXCEEDINGLY FASTER ON ITS OWN WITH THE OPERATORS FOOT STILL ONLY APPLYING THE EQUAL FORCE APPLICABLE TO NORMALLY EXECUTE THE ENTRANCE ON TO THE MAIN ROAD. THE TRANSMISSION REGAINED TRACTION WITH THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A VIOLENT LUNGE FORWARD THAN DISENGAGED ONCE MORE AND REPEATED THE SAME AGAIN WITH THE DISENGAGE AND LUNGE FORWARD. THE OPERATOR WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AROUND THE BLOCK AT NO MORE THAN 10MPH AROUND THE BLOCK TO GARAGE THE VEHICLE AND CALL FORD TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. *TR
CAR LOST POWER SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH. I PULLED OVER TO RIGHT LANE IN HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I COASTED AT REDUCED AND SLOWING SPEED TO THE NEXT AN EXIT RAMP, WHICH WAS ANOTHER FREEWAY. SEVERAL CARS WERE HONKING AND PASSING ME ON THE EXIT RAMP. I PULLED OVER AND DROVE ON SHOULDER FOR ANOTHER MILE UNTIL I CAME TO A SLIGHT HILL. I STOPPED ON THE NARROW SHOULDER BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT AT LOW RPM. THE WRENCH ICON SHOWED ON THE DASHBOARD. I TURNED ENGINE OFF AND WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES. IT HAD FULL POWER WHEN I RESTARTED, GIVING ME ROOM TO DRIVE TO NEXT EXIT LESS THAN A BLOCK AWAY, BUT LOST POWER AGAIN MINUTES LATER. I EXITED ON TO CENTURY AVE, DODGING ONCOMING CARS COMING AT FULL SPEED. I PULLED TO A SERVICE STATION RIGHT OFF THE HIGHWAY. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR LOST IT THROTTLE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT I HAD NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I PULLED THE CAR OVER. TURNED IT OFF, THEN BACK ON AND THE CAR APPEARED TO SHOW NO ISSUES. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER THE ISSUE APPEARED AGAIN. SAME SOLUTION. FROM MY RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AND COULD VERY MUCH ENDANGER ANYONE IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS HARD TO CONTROL. THE SUV SEEMS TO SPUTTER AS I PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR, AND THE ENGINE (MOTOR) SEEMS TO MISS WHEN ACCELERATION IS BETWEEN 20 AND 40 MPH. NEXT, WHEN ACCELERATING PAST 60 THE ENGINE MISSING OR (CUTTING OUT SYMPTOM) OCCURS. *TR
ENTERED LEFT TURN LANE TO APPROACH OFF RAMP, TRUCK STALLED. APPX 40MPH. TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, DROVE HOME. HAD NOTICED JUMPING RESPONSE FROM IDLE TO REVERSE TO DRIVE, PARTICULARLY UPON FIRST IGNITION OF DAY, FOR ABOUT A WEEK. HAVE CONTACTED DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF NOTED THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR 1 WEEK FROM TODAY. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY APPROX 65 MPH, NO WARNING, ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPS. THANKFULLY ABLE TO DRIFT OVER TO SHOULDER OF EXIT LANE AND RESTARTED WITH NO DETECTABLE ISSUES. ASKED MECHANICS TO RUN ALTERNATOR DIAGNOSTICS - AS THEY SAID THE ALTERNATOR WAS THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD MAKE AN ENGINE COMPLETELY CUT OFF. TESTED OK. PARKED FOR WEEKEND. SAME THING HAPPENED ON MONDAY MORNING. SEARCHED FOR PROBLEM ONLINE, FOUND THROTTLE BODY COMMENTS. CALLED LOCAL DEALER - SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME IT WAS COVERED UNDER RECALL, BUT APPOINTMENT SETTER TOLD ME IT WASN'T. WE'LL SEE WHEN I GET THERE TOMORROW. VERY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE - I'M LUCKY I TRAVEL AT VERY EARLY TRAFFIC TIMES. I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE AFTER READING SO MANY SIMILAR STORIES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 71 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, I NOTICED A SLOWING DOWN FEELING, THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WENT OFF, THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I PULLED TO THE BERM. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL IT WAS THE THROTTLE. IT TOOK 2 TRIES TO RESTART CAR, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF. A FORD DEALERSHIP WAS 5 MIN. FROM INCIDENT. ACCORDING TO INVOICE, THEY PERFORMED THROTTLE BODY UPDATE. I WAS TOLD IF THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, IT MIGHT NEED A THROTTLE BODY. I ASKED IF THEY COULD PERFORM THE WORK, THEY STATED WITHOUT THE LIGHT BEING ON, THEY COULDN'T DO THE WORK UNDER THE WARRANTY. MEANWHILE I WAS OVER 200 MILES FROM HOME, AND NEEDED TO GET HOME. IT FELT SO UNSAFE FOR 5HOURS OF DRIVING. THE CAR HAS SURGES OF POWER, DOWNSHIFTS WITH JOLTS, AND CLUNKING SOUNDS WHEN IT DOES SHIFT. THIS IS HOW IT DROVE FROM THE BEGINNING, I BEGAN TO THINK IT WAS NORMAL SO NEVER REPORTED IT. ALSO, SINCE THE WORK WAS DONE I NOTICED THE RPMS AT IDLING ARE HIGH, I CAN PULL INTO THE GARAGE WITHOUT PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE GAS THE RPMS ARE AT 2 AT 30 MILES AN HOUR, SAME AS AT 70 MILES AN HOUR. I'M CONTACTING FORD ABOUT THE RULES OF THE WARRANTY AND HOW UNSAFE IT FEELS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS, DEATHS WILL IT TAKE TO GET THE REAL WORK DONE, NOT A PATCH UP JOB. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, WHEN I FELT A 'CLUNK'. THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE 'WRENCH' LIGHT LIT UP. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES AND THEN RE-STARTED THE ENGINE. THE 'WRENCH' LIGHT DID NOT RETURN. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THIS ISSUES IS RESOLVED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE SERVICE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE SERVICE AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
AT 11 PM I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 MPH AND I THOUGHT MY CAR HAD SHUT OFF BECAUSE I NOTICED I DIDN'T HAVE ANY POWER. I TURNED DOWN THE RADIO TO HEAR FOR THE ENGINE BUT HEARD NOTHING. I HAD ENOUGH SPEED TO COAST TO A SAFE LIGHTED AREA TO INVESTIGATE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, COME TO FIND OUT THAT MY CAR WAS RUNNING BUT NO THROTTLE TO MAKE IT MOVE. A WARNING SYMBOL SHOWED UP AND IT WAS A LIGHTED WRENCH BUT I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THAT WAS UNTIL I DUG OUT MY OWNERS MANUAL THE NEXT DAY. I TURNED THE KEY OFF, RESTARTED THE ESCAPE AND MOVED ON MY WAY. I TRAVELED APPROX. 2 MORE MILES AT A SLOWER SPEED AND I LOST SPEED WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARING AS WELL AS THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT TURNING ON. I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT THE ADDITIONAL 1/2 MILES TO MY HOME. DOING RESEARCH I SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED IN JUNE WITH 32,365 MILES, THIS IS THE LAST THING I EXPECTED TO HAPPEN WITH A NEWER VEHICLE. PLEASE ADVISE IF THIS IS CONSIDERED A RECALL. THANK YOU! *TR
HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW! PARKED CAR AT MY OFFICE AND 2 HOURS LATER WANTING TO LEAVE AND DID NOT MAKE IT OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT GET POWER; BUT ALL OTHER COMPONENTS APPEARED WORKING FINE. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RE-STARTED; WITHIN SECONDS SAME THING HAPPEN. I WAS READY TO GO ON A 3 HOUR TRIP IN MORNING ON A BUSY INTERSTATE AND NOW I AM AFRAID TO GO SINCE I DO NOT WANT TO GET RUN OVER (HAVE TO GO THROUGH MUCH INTERSTATE CONSTRUCTION. THIS POWERTRAIN FAILURE IS NOT SAFE AND CREATES HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD FOR EVERYONE. EVEN WITH 50 MILES PER HOUR IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE; IT IS VERY DANGEROUS LOOSING THE POWERTRAIN IN A ONE LAND-BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC WITH HEAVY TRUCKS BEHIND YOU. PICTURE YOURSELF IN THIS SITUATION. I AM CERTAINLY AFRAID TO GO ON MY BUSINESS TRIP IN THE MORNING. LIKE GUESS PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE FIRST BEFORE FORD IS TAKING SOME RECALL ACTION! MY CAR IS REGULAR MAINTAINED; THIS WAS NOT EXPECTED AT ALL! I WILL NOT BUY A FORD AGAIN! *TR
PART BROKE APART IN A/C SYSTEM AND A/C UNIT STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS NOT A WEARABLE PART AND FORD REFUSES TO FIX. THE CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN WINTER AND THE A/C WAS NEVER TESTED TO SEE IF IT WAS WORKING.

THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP IN THE CENTER LANE OF HWY 50 LEADING INTO SACRAMENTO CA. THE FORD CAME TO A STOP IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC AND WE WERE NEARLY HIT FROM BEHIND. WE WERE STRANDED THERE FOR ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK TO ARRIVE. THE FORD HAD TO BE DRAGGED UP ONTO THE CAR HAULER. THE WHEELS WOULD NOT ROLL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING APPROX. 70 MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I HAD TO MANEUVER ACROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET ON THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAS PREPARING TO CALL A TOW TRUCK WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND HAD LIMITED ACCELERATION. I WAS ABLE TO "LIMP" THE CAR HOME AND TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN CROSS TERRAIN F4290R TIRES, SIZE P225/65/R17 (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE DRY ROTTED. ALSO, THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW AT ALL TIMES. THE TIRES WERE TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE RESULTS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AT 65 MPH, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE CUTS OUT AND I HAVE NO POWER. THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT IN THE DASH CAME ON. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TURNED THE KEY OFF AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT DROVE FINE THE NEXT 3 MILES TO MY HOME. *JS
VEHICLE CONTINUED TO JUMP, THEN CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS. THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CAUSE. *JS
DRIVING DOWN ROAD AND JUST QUIT RUNNING. *TR
THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED TWO TIMES WITHIN ABOUT 30 MINUTES TIME, SO I DROVE IMMEDIATELY HOME, PARKED THE CAR, AND CALLED MY DEALER, WHO SPECULATED THAT THE TROUBLE WAS DUE TO THE "THROTTLE BODY." THE FIRST TIME, I WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN AND I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, I HAD NO ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE JUST SAT THERE, WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY POWER TO BE HAD TO THE THROTTLE. I TURNED ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS, PUT THE CAR IN "PARK," TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, TURNED IT BACK ON, PUT THE CAR IN "DRIVE," AND THE CAR BEGAN TO DRIVE NORMALLY. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER, AFTER PARKING THE CAR, CONDUCTING AN ERRAND, AND THEN RE-STARTING THE CAR AND BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, THE THROTTLE DID THE SAME THING IN THE MIDDLE OF A STREET: TRIED TO ACCELERATE IN "DRIVE" AND GOT NOTHING UNTIL SHUTTING OFF THE IGNITION AND RE-STARTING. PREVIOUSLY, OVER THE COURSE OF THE PAST SIX MONTHS, I EXPERIENCED WHAT SEEMS TO BE A SIMILAR, THOUGH OPPOSITE, PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE. OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING, I WOULD HEAR AND FEEL WHAT SEEMED TO ME TO BE A SMALL SURGE OF POWER WHILE ACCELERATING ON SURFACE ROADS. I ASSUMED AT THAT TIME THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND NORMAL SERVICING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION AND FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH IT. I BELIEVE NOW, AFTER READING ABOUT THE THROTTLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL ON NCCONSUMER.ORG, THAT THOSE INCIDENTS WERE LIKELY DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONING AS WELL. I EXPERIENCED APPROXIMATELY 10-12 OF THESE POWER SURGE INCIDENTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT. AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC ALL OF A SUDDEN I FELT A LOSS OF POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON. I WAS ALMOST HIT MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO FORCE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SAT THERE FOR A COUPLE MINUTES AND THEN STARTED THE CAR NORMALLY AND DROVE HOME. IT WAS A SCARY EXPERIENCE AND ONE THAT I HOPE FORD TAKES CARE OF. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH SWITCH SAYS IT IS NOT LATCHED, BUT IT IS. THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON WHILE DRIVING. HARD TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH LIGHTS ON. DANGEROUS. DOORS DO NOT LOCK PROPERLY BECAUSE IT THINKS THE DOOR IS AJAR. I UNDERSTAND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS EXACT ISSUE.
DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AT 85 MILES PER HOUR. VEHICLE STALLS AND RPMS OR MPH WON'T MOVE. PULL OVER PUT IN PARK, VEHICLE SHAKES REAL BAD AND WRENCH COMES ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED AND AFTER THAT THE CONTROL MODULE FOR THE AIRBAGS WENT OUT. THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION THE STEERING BEGAN LOCKING UP AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS BEGAN SHOWING DISABLED. ALSO, THE CAR BEGAN SAYING TO RESYNC SOMETHING BECAUSE THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW WHEN IT WAS JUST FINE. AFTER RETURNING FROM VACATION AND THE STEERING COLUMN TOTALLY LOCKING UP SEVERAL TIMES, THE DEALERSHIP NOW TELLS US THAT ADDITIONAL CONTROL MODULES ARE OUT. WHEN THE STEERING LOCKS IT REQUIRES STOPPING NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE AT AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE TO RESET AND THEN STARTING IT AGAIN. THIS PROBABLY HAPPENED A DOZEN OR MORE TIMES ON BUSY HIGHWAYS. THIS VEHICLE IS ROUGHLY THREE YEARS OLD AND THEY CAN'T EVEN SAY WHY THE MODULES ARE CONTINUING TO GO OUT AND IF FIXING THEM WILL EVEN SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INDICATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL ISSUE COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL ON CURVY ROADS. I SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID TO BAD, THIS IS NOT ON THEIR LIST OF ITEMS THAT THEY HAVE TO FIX. THEY WILL LET ENGINEERING KNOW BUT NO GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL EVEN RESPOND TO THIS ISSUE. WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN IN THIS CASE AS THIS IS GOING TO COST ROUGHLY $2500 - $3500 TO FIX AND NOTHING TO SAY IT WON'T GO OUT AGAIN. The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel intermittently failed to turn in the intended direction. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, the power steering assist failed to operate as needed. The steering wheel became extremely tight, and excessive force was needed to drive the vehicle while avoiding crashing into another vehicle. The contact called three dealers and was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The contact ordered a power steering torque rotation sensor and planned for an independent mechanic to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. THE ENGINE HAS STALLED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND ALSO REPROGRAMMED THE PCM PER THE 13N01 RECALL. FORD - COMPLETE AC FAILURE/ AC DRYER FAILURE WHEN I TURNED ON THE AC FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR IT MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THEN NEVER COOLED.TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK FOR PROBLEM. CAR HAS 41400 MILES ON IT (LITTLE MORE THAN 5000 OVER THE 36000) BUT STILL HAS 6 MONTHS ON WARRANTY. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM.(ROSELLE FORD)WHERE PURCHASED. EVEN THOUGH A LOUD GRINDING SOUND WAS PRESENT AND NO COLD AIR.. HE TOLD HER TO BRING IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.. SHE DID, THEY VACUUMED &CHARGED. IT WORKED FOR 2 WEEKS THEN STOPPED. DEALER CALLED AND GAVE THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM ..."IN THE AC DRYER THERE IS A FILTER BAG WITH "LITTLE BLUE BALLS" OF DESICCANT. IT SEEMS THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT THESE FILTER BAGS BURST AND FLOOD THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM WITH THE BALLS (AKA "DEBRIS") WHICH CAUSES ALL THE PARTS TO FAIL AND OR CLOG. MANY OF THE PARTS CAN'T BE EFFECTIVELY FLUSHED SO THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED." THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM (ALL VALVES, TUBES, HOSES, EVAPORATOR, COMPRESSOR, CONDENSER, ACCUMULATOR, DRYER, ETC.) CAME TO $2,022.65. THIS DRYER UNIT THAT IS CAUSING ALL THE PROBLEMS IS A NON-SERVICEABLE UNIT AND IS IN NO WAY AFFECTED BY REGULAR MAINTENANCE, AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO PREVENT A FAILURE. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ONE YEAR, AND IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOUNT ALL OF THE TIMES IT HAS STALLED ON ME WHILE DRIVING IT. IT HAS STALLED IN PARKING LOTS, IN HEAVY STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC, MAKING TURNS, PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, AND ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY. IT STARTED WITHIN TWO MONTHS OF PURCHASE. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST OF 2014 WHERE THEY PERFORMED RECALL WORK WHICH INCLUDED THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT, REPROGRAMMED THE PCM, AND A POWER STEERING ADVISORY ITEM. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. THE STALLING SEEMS TO HAPPEN JUST AFTER FILL-UP AND HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL THE GAS GAUGE READS LESS THAN THREE-FOURTHS AND AT LOW SPEEDS. I FILLED IT UP YESTERDAY, AND IT HAS STALLED SEVEN TIMES SINCE THEN. IT HAPPENS WHEN COASTING TO A STOP OR MAKING A TURN. ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS, IT RUNS WELL. THE ISSUE WAS COMPOUNDED IN FEBRUARY WHEN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE EVAP CANISTER WAS FULL OF GAS. IT, ALONG WITH A TUBE HOSE ASSEMBLY (BL8Z9D667B-AF), WAS REPLACED ONLY FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. THE PURGE VALVE WAS STUCK OPEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A SECOND EVAP CANISTER. THE STALLING ISSUE CONTINUED, AND THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE CANISTER TO BE SATURATED WITH GAS AGAIN. THIS TIME, THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AS THEY BELIEVE IT IS A VALVE BUILT INTO THE TANK WHICH SEEMS ABSURD. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS SINCE THEY QUOTED A COST OF OVER $2000. EVEN IF I HAVE THAT DONE, IT WILL ONLY CORRECT THE CANISTER ISSUE, NOT THE STALLING. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF POSTS ON THE INTERNET FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME MODEL YEAR AS I HAVE. THESE ARE BOTH ISSUES THAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE RESULT OF A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE VOLUME OF OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, MY 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A LEGAL RIGHT TURN ON RED. WHEN SHE WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED NOTICED THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT, A RED BATTERY LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT ALL CAME ON. WAITED 10 MIN FOR ME TO GET TO HER. WE RESTARTED CAR SEEMED FINE. I TOOK TO FORD DEALER LAST NIGHT. FORD DEALER CALLED THIS MORNING AS ADVISED FUEL THROTTLE PROBLEM AND SAID NO PROBLEM WARRANTY EXTENDED ON THAT PROBLEM TO 150,000 MILES 10 YEARS, YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY.
