WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT WILL RANDOMLY LOSE ALL POWER AND NO LONGER MOVE. I HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO KEEP FROM GETTING HIT BECAUSE I CANNOT ACCELERATE. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND I WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT IS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE 6 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS!! FORD TELLS ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL! *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-5 AND 2011 FORD ESCAPE STARTED TO DECELERATE WHILE FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL. HAD TO SWITCH LANES AND EXIT HIGHWAY BEFORE I LOST MOMENTUM. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THE PROCESS. SHUT IT OFF FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES THEN TURNED IT OVER BUT IT STRUGGLED TO FIRE. WHEN STARTED WE DROVE STRAIGHT HOME AND PARKED IT. I THEN GOT ON THE COMPUTER TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE AND LOOKED UP ANY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. I FOUND ARFC AND SEEN ABOUT 270 OR MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. I'M CURIOUS WHY FORD DIDN'T RECALL THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THAT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS YOU THINK SOMETHING WOULD BE DONE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY FORD ESCAPE JUST LOST ACCELERATION. EVERYTHING ELSE STAY ON, BUT I TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL WITH NO RESPONSE AND NOTHING HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, EXACT SAME THING. LUCKILY DURING BOTH EVENTS NO CARS WERE BEHIND ME AT THE TIME. *TR
OUR FORD ESCAPE WAS PARKED AT THE GROCERY STORE. AFTER PUTTING GROCERY BAGS IN THE BACK I SHUT THE TAILGATE AND THE BACK WINDOW EXPLODED. FORD WOULD NOT COVER THIS SINCE ITS PAST THE FACTORY 3 YEAR WARRANTY. NO EXPLANATION FOR HOW THIS HAPPENED HAS BEEN PROVIDED. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 9:00 AM IN THE MORNING, THE REAR TAILGATE WINDOW WAS CLOSED INSTANTLY SHATTERING EVERYWHERE. *TR
I WAS ON I80 HEADING WESTBOUND THROUGH LINCOLN. ALL THE SUDDEN I FELT A THUMP AND LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I WAS IN THE CENTER LANE (OF THREE LANE TRAFFIC) AND WAS SURROUNDED BY SEMI TRUCKS. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO GET MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I CALLED AAA FOR A TOW AND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. I WAS ADVISED THAT I HAD A STUCK THROTTLE BODY. THEY SAID THIS IS QUITE COMMON FOR THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY UNDER WARRANTY AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. I HAD RECENTLY TAKEN AN 1800 MILE ROAD TRIP WITH MY CHILDREN THROUGH DALLAS AND HOUSTON. I AM SO GRATEFUL THIS DIDN'T OCCUR ON OUR TRIP. *TR
SEVERAL WEEKS EARLIER, AS A WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, MY CAR STARTED BUCKING OR SURGING, FEELING AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STALL. IT DID NOT STALL AT THAT POINT. A FEW MINUTES LATER, AS A WAS SLOWED DOWN BY A BUS, IT DID STALL. RESTARTED VERY EASILY AND I KEPT DRIVING. EVERY FEW DAYS, WE WOULD NOTICE THE SURGING, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM, BUT THEY WEREN'T SURE WHAT EXACTLY. STALLED A SECOND TIME POST DEALER VISIT. THIS MORNING, AS I WAS IN MOTION AT 35 MILES AN HOUR, THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. I COASTED VERY EASILY TO THE SHOULDER, BUT COULD NOT RESTART. CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. AWAITING THEIR ANSWER, BUT SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE THE OTHER THROTTLE BODY ISSUES I'VE READ ON HERE. I'M FORTUNATE TO HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY YET, ESPECIALLY WITH MY YOUNG CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT. THIS WAS A SCARY SITUATION, AND I'M NOT PLEASED THAT THE PREVIOUS RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE 2011 MODEL YEAR. PLEASE REOPEN THE INVESTIGATION. *TR
CAR 4 MONTHS PAST WARRANTY, STUCK IN TRAFFIC WHEN SUDDENLY NOT GETTING GAS. DEALERSHIP SAYS IS THROTTLE BODY. SEE LOTS MORE COMPLAINTS SO WANTED TO REGISTER MINE TOO. *TR
IN THE PEAK OF TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE STALLED AND STARTED CHOKING. ALMOST WOULD BARELY RUN. HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO STOP IN THE REST AREA AND HAD TO PAY THE TOW TRUCK. VEHICLE CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND THE DIAGNOSIS IS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACING. AND THE WARRANTY IS NOT COVERING. *TR
2011 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AIR BAG AND SEAT FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE WAS REAR ENDED, HER HEAD FLEW FORWARD AND HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH HER MOUTH, THEN FLEW BACKWARD, WHERE THE BACK OF THE SEAT COLLAPSED, WHICH ALLOWED HER TO FLY BACK AND LAND AT A PARTIALLY RECLINED POSITION. FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES, SHE LAID IN THE VEHICLE, SUFFERING FROM MUSCLE SPASMS, TRYING TO DETERMINE IF SHE COULD STAND UP. THE CONSUMER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CONCUSSION AND WHIPLASH.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. BOTH TIME I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK. THE FIRST TIME I WAS GOING ABOUT 45MPH TURNING ON THE STREET TO MY OFFICE AND THE ENGINE DIES. I HAVE NO POWER. I AM PRESSING ON THE GAS AND NOTHING. I STOP THE CAR AND PIT IT IN PARK. I RESTART THE CAR AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP. I THINK OH NO BIG DEAL MAYBE I HAVE A BAD TANK OF GAS. MAYBE THE ENGINE WAS NOT GETTING ANY FUEL. DID NOT THINK TOO MUCH INTO THE PROBLEM THIS MORNING IT HAPPENS AGAIN! EXCEPT I WAS GOING A LOT FASTER AND I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM GOING ABOUT 65MPH AND 10 MINUTE AWAY FROM WORK. I AM IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND THE ENGINE DIES. I INSTANTLY PANIC AND NEED TO GET OVER FIVE LANES OF TRAFFIC. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON LUCKILY I STILL HAVE POWER FOR THOSE. I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I PUT IT IN PARK AND TAKE THE KEY OUT. SIT THERE FOR A MINUTE WHILE I CATCH MY BREATH BECAUSE I JUST CROSSED 5 LANES OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH A ENGINE THAT IS NOT ON. I PUT THE KEY IN AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP. I PRESS ON THE GAS AND I HAVE POWER AGAIN. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF US. NHTSA ACTION NUMBER - DP12006 VEHICLE STALLS GOING 65 MPH. ISSUE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY WHY???? WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE?????? *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY INTERSTATE IN THE CENTER LANE, MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY MADE A JERKING MOTION, MADE A LOUD NOISE AND THEN STARTED SLOWING DOWN QUICKLY. I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE CAR KEPT SLOWING DOWN. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE WHILE DOING THIS. I THEN NOTICED A WRENCH SYMBOL LIT ON MY DASH. I CHECKED THE OWNERS MANUAL AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL SHOWED THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN. SINCE I HAVE CERTIFIED PRE OWNED WARRANTY WITH FORD, I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. WHILE WAITING ALMOST THREE HOURS IN THE RAIN FOR A TOW TRUCK AND SITTING ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, I WAS TERRIFIED. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY FIVE SEMIS. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. *TR
TURNING OFF THE FEEDER ROAD OF THE FREEWAY AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND WAS UNABLE TO APPLY THE GAS. THE ENGINE WAS ON BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
ACCELERATOR CEASED WORKING WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THIS WAS THE 3RD INSTANCE IN 2 MONTHS; HOWEVER, THE FIRST TIME THAT PUMPING THE ACCELERATOR FAILED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE WAS REQUIRED TO CORRECT AT THIS POINT. REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF I 85 THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE RIGHT LANE BECAME CLEAR AND I COASTED THE CAR ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY AT THIS SPEED WITH CARS BEHIND ME. *TR
VEHICLE CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING 65MPH ON HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING. *TR
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS ON 11-14-13, THE 2011 FORD ESCAPE LOST THROTTLE POWER AND NEEDED TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED, IN ORDER TO GAIN THROTTLE BACK. THE 1ST INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING APPROX. 35 MPH, ON LOCAL ROADS. THIS OCCURRED AT 8:00AM ON THE 14TH. THE 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED AT APPROX. 11:30 AM ON THE 14TH WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 81. VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. PULLED ASIDE BOTH TIMES AND RESTARTED CAR TO REGAIN THROTTLE. A WRENCH ICON APPEARED BOTH TIMES. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANTLY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I HAD A LOCAL GARAGE ASSESS AND WAS DIRECTED TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED CAR. APPT, FOR 11-19-13 AT COCCIA FORD IN WILKES-BARRE, PA. *TR
I STARTED ACCELERATING AFTER BEING AT A COMPLETE STOP AT A LIGHT. HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE THROTTLE LOST POWER AND I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH MY HAZARDS ON UNTIL I COULD GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. AS I APPLIED THE BREAKS AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, IT STARTED SHAKING UNTIL I COULD PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, IT TOOK LONGER THAN USUAL TO START BUT SEEMED TO BE RUNNING FINE AND WAS NOT SHAKING. AFTER WAITING FOR IT TO RUN WITHOUT PROBLEM, I SLOWLY ACCELERATED THE CAR TO CONTINUE MY COMMUTE. WITHIN 2 MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN AND BOTH THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I ONCE AGAIN PULLED OVER, STOPPED THE CAR, AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR, I DROVE TO A GAS STATION WHO WAS ABLE TO HOOK UP THE ENGINE TO A COMPUTER SCANNER. THE TECHNICIAN CAME BACK WITH WHAT HE SAID WAS AN " O2 SENSOR CODE." HE CHECKED MY FLUIDS AND RESET THE COMPUTER TO TURN OFF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SAID I SHOULD BE FINE TO DRIVE THE 30 MILES HOME BUT SHOULD GET IT CHECKED OUT ASAP. WITHIN 20 MILES OF DRIVING, THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN. SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET, THERE IS NO RECORD OF THE CODE THAT CAME UP, SO THE DEALER SPENT AN HOUR TRYING TO GET IT TO ACT UP BUT HAS HAD NO LUCK. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID SAY THAT ALTHOUGH THEY CANNOT GET THE CAR TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM, THEY HIGHLY SUSPECT THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 80 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH WARNING LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
AFTER SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE VEHICLE TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY THEN VEHICLE HESITATED AND WOULDN'T RESPOND TO ANY ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER COMPLETELY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND TRYING TO RESTART IT, IT TOOK APPROX 7 SECONDS TO TURN OVER AND AFTER MAKING ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE THERE WASN'T ANY CHANGE. I DID THIS TWO MORE TIMES AND ON THE THIRD TRY, THE VEHICLE RESPONDED TO PROMPTS FROM THE ACCELERATOR. BOTH THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT WERE STILL LIT UP, BUT I DROVE THE CAR TO THE AUTOPORT AND WAS GIVEN THE TROUBLE CODE P2112 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ALONG HIGHWAY, MY GAS PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST OFF TO SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND SUV BEGAN TO IDLE EXTREMELY ROUGHLY. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS. RESEARCHED ISSUE TODAY AND FOUND NUMEROUS EXAMPLES OF THIS PROBLEM. ISSUE SHOULD BE RECALLED!! *TR
THIS IS THE 2ND INCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE, FIRST TIME JUST STOP MIDDLE OF DRIVING JUST SHUT DOWN. DEALER DID REPLACE THROTTLE BODY AT 22,000 MILES IN NOV 2013. THIS INCIDENT (4-16-14) I WAS SITTING AT STOP LIGHT A FEW MILES FROM HOME AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF, I PUT VEHICLE IN P AND DID RESTART. DROPPED OFF VEHICLE AT DEALER AND AT THIS POINT THEY HAVE NO ANSWER FOR THIS PROBLEM. JUST FEEL UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE ESP ON THE HIGHWAY AT FULL SPEED WITH THIS PROBLEM SEEMS LIKE CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MY FAMILY AND OTHERS. AT THIS POINT I REALLY JUST NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS A REPORTED PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES TO FIX THE ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION. ON OCCASION THE VEHICLE LURCHES WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. THE PROBLEM IS ESPECIALLY ACUTE HAVING BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AND WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO DRIVE IN THE FIRST 300 FEET THE VEHICLE "KICKBACKS". THE DEALER CAN ONLY REBOOT THE ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION. THIS RESETS THE CAR FOR ABOUT ONE WEEK AND AFTERWARDS THE VEHICLE GOES BACK TO THE HERKY JERK PATTERN BETWEEN GEARS. *TR
THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER WHEN CROSSING INTERSECTION. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON . COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATION. CAR LIMPED HOME [FORTUNATELY ONLY 300 YARDS] @ LESS THAN WALKING PACE. NOT HAPPY AND HAS AFFECTED MY CONFIDENCE IN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE. LUCKILY FORD AGENT HELPFUL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND ONCE RESTARTED, IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,824.
DRIVING NORMAL SPEED, WITHOUT WARNING, "WRENCH ICON" APPEARS AND GAS PEDAL FAILS TO RESPOND. COAST TO STOP IN A PARKING LOT. SHUT OFF ENGINE, RESTART VEHICLE AND IT DRIVES NORMAL FOR REMAINDER OF 2 MILE TRIP. START NEXT ERRAND AND SAME THING HAPPENS. SOUNDS LIKE THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE AND LIMP MODE THAT I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING ONLINE. *TR
DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE OF A 3-LANE HIGHWAY I HEARD A LOUD "THUNK" FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT & FELT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SLOWING DOWN. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, I FELT NO RESPONSE & LOOKED AT THE DASH TO SEE THE WRENCH LIGHT ON. I LOOKED OVER TO MAKE SURE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STILL IN DRIVE, THINKING MAYBE IT HAS SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN - NOTHING. VEHICLE HAD A STRONG SHAKING/VIBRATION I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OUT OF TRAFFIC. I SHUT THE CAR OFF & WAS ABLE TO ABLE TO RESTART WITHOUT THE WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON AGAIN. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO FORD DEALER TO BE CHECKED BECAUSE "STALLING" ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IS NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO EXPERIENCE AGAIN. HOPE THEY FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!! *TR
THE VEHICLE WENT TO IDLE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS SWITCHED OFF AND RESTARTED. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. OUR DEALER SAYS THEY CANT DIAGNOSE UNLESS THEY HAVE THE VEHICLE WHILE IT IS IN IDLE ONLY. *TR
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A FUEL SURGE CAUSING A REACTION THAT WAS NOT INTENDED BY THE DRIVER. THE CAR JOLTEDAS IF ONE MASHED THE ACCELERATOR THEN RELEASED REPEATEDLY. ONCE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP THE CAR SPIT AND SPUTTERED LIKE BAD ENGINE TIMING. WE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF WHERE IT SAT OVERNIGHT. I STOPPED BY AN ADVANCED AUTO PARTS STORE WHERE THE ATTENDANT PULLED THE SERVICE CODE P2112 THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK CLOSED. *TR
THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 65MPH, THE CAR GAVE A SMALL JERK AND THE WRENCH ICON ILLUMINATED, THE CAR APPEARED TO STILL HAVE POWER BUT THERE WAS NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MOVE OVER TWO LANES OF BUSY, SPEEDY TRAFFIC (AS THERE WAS NO LEFT SIDE SHOULDER) AND PULL OFF WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF THEN RESTARTED IT, IT APPEARED TO RUN OKAY AFTER THAT UNTIL ABOUT 3 MILES LATER THE EXACT THING OCCURRED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE I WAS ABLE TO EXIT IT HAPPENED ONCE AGAIN ON A RURAL ROAD AT ABOUT 35-40MPH. I CALLED FOR SERVICE AND TOOK THE CAR IN THE NEXT DAY, WHILE ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING ONCE MORE - AT ABOUT 45 MPH. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY NERVE-WRACKING EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY - IT COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND TURNED OUT MUCH WORSE. ONCE THE DEALER CALLED ME TO TELL ME WHAT THE ISSUE WAS I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF I COULD FIND ANY INFORMATION AND CAME ACROSS HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS, ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME EXPERIENCE I HAD. I FEEL, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ AND THE NEED FOR SO MANY PEOPLE TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED IT SHOULD BE A FORMAL RECALL BY FORD AND NOT SOMETHING THAT THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY FOR, AS I AM NOW. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS SITUATION OCCURS AND CAUSES SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, IF THAT HASN'T ALREADY HAPPENED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40 VEHICLE STALLED OUT, HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH AND SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. DROVE VEHICLE HOME AND STALLED OUT 3 MORE TIMES WITHIN COUPLE MILES. HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS AND CANNOT BELIEVE A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED. *TR
ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS AM, I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC DUE TO A LIGHT SNOWFALL LAST NIGHT. OUT OF NOWHERE,MY REAR WINDSHIELD IMPLODED, SHATTERING THE ENTIRE WINDOW. WHEN I HAD THE BODY SHOP LOOK AT THE BROKEN GLASS, THEY FELT THE HEATING COILS MIGHT HAVE BEEN TOO HOT. THIS WAS BASED ON THEIR VISUAL EXAMINATION OF THE BROKEN GLASS. IT COST ME $450 TO REPLACE THIS. THERE ARE MULTIPLE SITES ON THE INTERNET TALKING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WITH WINDOWS ON THE FORD MODELS. SHOULD THIS NOT WARRANT A RECALL? I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS REPORTED AND THERE IS NO RECALL. CAN YOU HELP? *TR
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE STOPPED. I WAS LEFT AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH A CAR THAT WOULD BARELY MOVE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER - THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE CAR WAS ONLY OUT OF WARRANTY BY 1000 MILES. ENDED UP COMPROMISING ON PAYING $100. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS. THEY KNOW IT'S AN ISSUE. *TR
JUST LEFT HIGHWAY SITTING AT RED LIGHT. LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND PROCEEDED TO GO WHEN A TOOL LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH LIT UP ON THE DASH. CAR WOULD NOT GO JUST COASTED ALONG. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY COAST THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER I TURNED MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON TO ALERT THE OTHER DRIVERS THAT I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION. I CALLED THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I TAKE MY VEHICLE TO AND WAS TOLD THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR NEEDS A NEW THROTTLE BODY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-80 AT 65 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO POWER WITH MY GAS PEDAL AND MY ENGINE LIGHT (WRENCH) CAME ON. MY CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL IT DID NOTHING. WHILE WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK, I SHUT MY CAR OFF AND THEN STARTED IT AGAIN. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS IT STARTED TO GO AGAIN. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED TO GET BACK ON THE INTERSTATE I HAD NO POWER AGAIN AND MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHECKED IT AND THEY SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE. I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. WHILE DRIVING ON I75 NORTH NEAR DAYTON, OH MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE RPM'S DROPPED DOWN TO 0 AND THE POWER TRAIN/TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS NO ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN BRAKE AND GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING AT 70MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT THE TIME. ON THE SHOULDER I SHUT OFF THE CAR, AND RESTARTED IT. EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL. I NEEDED TO GET BACK TO TOLEDO, OH. ABOUT 30 MILES LATER THE CAR DID THE SAME THING AS BEFORE. ONCE AGAIN, I WAS FORTUNATELY ON A SECTION OF I75 WITH A SHOULDER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT THE REST OF THE WAY ON THE TRIP. IF THIS INCIDENT HAD HAPPENED IN AN AREA WITH NO SHOULDER, IN CONSTRUCTION, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH NO WAY TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, ON A HILL.....ETC THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. THE FORD DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. ONCE AGAIN, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. TO LOSE ALL POWER ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING 70MPH IN BUSY TRAFFIC IS A SAFETY ISSUE. TODAY ON NEARBY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, SUDDENLY MY THROTTLE PEDAL ACTED USELESS WITH NO POWER, ENGINE IDLED DOWN. THROTTLE PEDAL USELESS IN ANY POSITION. ENGINE OUTLINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL A OPEN END WRENCH. WRENCH WARNING LIGHT IN LISTED IN OWNERS MANUAL AS "THROTTLE CONTROL / POWERTRAIN FAULT, PLEASE CONTACT DEALER." I CALLED THE FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, HE KNEW PRETTY QUICKLY THE DEFECT I WAS DESCRIBING. HE INFORMED ME THAT MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE IS A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES OVER THE 3YR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. BUT HE ALSO SAID I MAY BE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED EMISSIONS WARRANTY. MY CAR IS JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD. CODE P2112 - ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED BY FORD ON 10/17/13 FOR $320.76 VEHICLE ALSO LOST POWER ON 10/10/13 WHILE AT A LOW SPEED AND TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO ENTER THE FREEWAY. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON BUT NOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT AWAY. *TR

I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND SAT FOR A SECOND AND WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON IT STARTED UP AND WOULD GO. OVER THE PAST MONTHS THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AND OFF. SOME DAYS IT DRIVES FINE AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL DO THE SAME ASPECT. *TR
EVER SINCE WE BOUGHT OUR 2011 FORD ESCAPE (USED IN FL--HAD TO DRIVE IT TO WA STATE DUE TO MILITARY PCS ARMY ORDERS) THE CAR HAS NEVER GOTTEN MORE THAN 20 MPG. IT WAS HESITATING CONSISTENTLY AFTER WE PUT 5,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT STARTED HESITATING/ REVVING RPMS AT STOP/JUMPING/ACCELERATING THEN ENGINE WOULD JUST SHUT OFF AND POWER AS WELL. FINALLY STALLED ON JOINT BASE LEWIS MCCHORD, WA (WHERE WE ARE STATIONED AND LIVE) AND MY HUSBAND COULD NOT GET IT TO START. THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" WAS ALSO THEN SHOWING. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP (LAKEWOOD FORD). WE HAD A PLATINUM WARRANTY WE PAID EXTRA FOR WITH OUR MONTHLY PAYMENTS. EVEN WITH THAT WE STILL HAD TO GET AN AER (ARMY EMERGENCY RELIEF) LOAN FOR THE DIFFERENCE (APPX. $187.00) THAT WAS NOT COVERED. WE WERE ENTITLED TO RENTAL CAR COVERAGE BUT THE FORD DEALERSHIP DID NOT CONTACT OUR WARRANTY COMPANY IN TIME SO WE WERE WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 4 DAYS. THAT WAS BARELY 3 MONTHS AGO. THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY REGULATOR. AGAIN...HERE IT IS LESS THAN 3 MONTHS SINCE THAT WAS REPLACED AND WE ARE ONLY GETTING 18.2 MILES TO THE GALLON. IT IS WORSE WHEN WE USE THE FLEX FUEL. IT BARELY HAS 47,000 MILES AND IT IS UNPREDICTABLE AND I FEEL UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. MY HUSBAND IS BEING MEDICALLY BOARDED FROM ACTIVE DUTY ARMY BECAUSE HE IS 100% DISABLED AND A "WOUNDED WARRIOR." THE ONLY COMFORT I HAVE IS SEEING THAT WE AREN'T THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM. THAT IS TERRIBLE TO SAY BUT IT IS EVEN WORSE WHEN YOU CANNOT RELY ON A VEHICLE YOU BOUGHT ONLY 1 YEAR USED. WE ARE FACING HAVING TO DRIVE THIS BACK TO ORLANDO, FL AND NOW WE WILL PROBABLY VOLUNTARILY TURN IT IN TO THE LOAN COMPANY SIMPLY BECAUSE NEITHER ONE OF US FEEL SAFE ENOUGH TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT 3500 MILES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES, ALONG WITH THE MEDICAL CONCERNS. *TR

MY WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER SOME TIME OF SITTING, THE CAR DROVE FINE AND I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE ERROR CAME UP "THROTTLE BODY STUCK CLOSED". AFTER RESEARCHING, I'VE FOUND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. I'VE ALSO HAD TIMES WHERE AFTER STOPPING AND THEN PRESSING THE GAS TO GO, THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE FORWARD SUDDENLY. BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECTIVE PART, MY SON AND I WERE STRANDED FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND WERE TRAVELING HOME SO WE WERE ABOUT 4 HOURS FROM HOME. WE HAD TO DEPEND ON STRANGERS TO HELP US.
