TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS REQUIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING).THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE GAS PEDAL BECOME UNRESPONSIVE, I BEGAN QUICKLY LOSING SPEED, AND A "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE WITH A WIDE SHOULDER AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER BEFORE SLOWING TO A COMPLETE HALT. HAD I BEEN IN A CENTER LANE OR ON A STRETCH WITH NO SHOULDER, THERE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND SURGED AS I CAME TO A STOP. WHEN I WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED AND SHIFTED INTO PARK, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TO TOWED TO MAXWELL FORD (AUSTIN, TX), AND THE REPORTED CAUSE WAS "FAILED R&R THROTTLE." *JS
I WAS TRAVELING NORTHWEST ON I 26 WHEN I HEARD A POP AND LOST SPEED AND CONTROL. I EASED OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TRIED TO STOP. AT THIS TIME, THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. EVENTUALLY THE CAR STOPPED AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEWBERRY AND LEFT THE CAR AT A GARAGE AND RENTED A CAR TO CONTINUE MY TRIP TO PICK MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND RETURN TO CHARLESTON. I HAD TO PAY 85.00 TO THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER, 385.00 FOR THE CAR RENTAL AND 486.36 TO THE GARAGE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT. NOW I FIND OUT THIS HAS HAD A RECALL. IF I HAD BEEN NOTIFIED, I WOULD NOT BE OUT NEARLY $1000.00, NOT TO MENTION THE SAFETY ASPECT OF THIS WHOLE INCIDENT. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY, AT A CONSTANT SPEED, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, GAS PEDAL DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. PUTTING IT IN PARK AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE, AND STARTING AGAIN MAKES THE LIGHT GO AWAY AND RUN FINE AGAIN. *TT
ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER SEVERAL COUNTLESS TIMES DURING A 300 MILE JOURNEY ON A HIGHWAY. I ALMOST CRASHED VEHICLE DURING THE EARLY OCCURRENCES. *JS
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 10 EAST OF TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA THE VEHICLE WARNING LIGHT (WRENCH) CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON BUT THERE WAS NO POWER. SHE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, CUT THE ENGINE OFF, AND CALLED HOME. I ASKED TO START THE ENGINE TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. SHE DID AND THE VEHICLE PULLED OFF LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPEN. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPEN WHEN I WAS GOING OVER AN OVER PASS ON INTERSTATE 10 YESTERDAY. I PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, CUT THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED TEN SECOND STARTED UP AND DROVE OFF. *TR
1ST TIME I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE WANTED TO SURGE FORWARD SEVERAL TIMES, WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND IT HESITATED. THIS WOULD HAPPEN EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, NOT A CONTINUOUS ISSUE. IN DEC 2014 IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS TIME WITH THE VEHICLE STALLING, PUT IN PARK AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP BUT HESITATED WHEN ACCELERATING, DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A 5 MILE SPAN. PARKED, DID MY 8 HOUR WORK DAY CAME OUT, STARTED RIGHT UP AND NO ISSUES DRIVING HOME. LATER THAT NIGHT MY HUSBAND DROVE IT AND IT STALLED ON HIM 3 TIMES WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. CODE P144A CAME UP, TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE CODE THROWN SHOULD NOT CAUSE STALLING ISSUES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING BATTLE, SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE RUNNING GREAT, SOMETIMES I DON'T KNOW IF I'LL MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS; IN CITY, INTERSTATE, OR AT A COMPLETE STOP. LOSS OF POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEED, 70 MILES PER HOUR, DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. MY WIFE HAD TO PULL OVER TO BREAKDOWN LANE AND TURN OFF ENGINE, ON I-95 IN WEST PALM BEACH FL AREA. WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE RESTARTED, AFTER A FEW MINUTES WAITING AT SIDE OF VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WITHIN TWO WEEKS. RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR WON'T UNLOCK OR OPEN. *JS
MY CAR WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY. I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING EXPLODED. I WENT OUTSIDE TO FIND MY REAR WINDOW HAD SHATTERED. I CALLED FORD BECAUSE I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND IT SEEMED TO BE A COMMON THING WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE ONLY THING THEY SAID WAS THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THAT HAPPENING WITH THIS MODEL AND THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP WITH THE EXPENSES. *JS
TRAVELING ON I-71 SOUTHBOUND IN CLEVELAND, OH DOING A SPEED OF ABOUT 70MPH, I ALL OF A SUDDEN HAD NO POWER STEERING. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO STILL DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT TOO MUCH OF AN ISSUE. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN LATER IN THE DAY ONLY THIS TIME, I HAD STOPPED AT AN ATM. WHEN I STARTED TO PULL AWAY I NOTICED ONCE AGAIN I DIDN'T HAVE POWER STEERING. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE WAIT FOR 5 SECONDS AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE OF I-495 IN LONG ISLAND, NY AROUND 1:00 PM WHEN MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND FELT THAT THERE WAS NO POWER IN THE ACCELERATOR. THE CAR WAS NOW ONLY MOVING BECAUSE OF THE PREVIOUS HIGHWAY SPEED THAT I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT, AND I WAS ABLE TO USE THE REMAINING PROPULSION OF THE CAR TO PASS TO THE RIGHT LANE AND PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER. I HAD TO WAIT 2 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK TO ARRIVE WHILE WAITING PRECARIOUSLY CLOSE TO THE RIGHT LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY, BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR FURTHER TO THE RIGHT ON THE SHOULDER DUE TO THE LACK OF POWER. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS EVENT FOR ME, AS I WAS SURROUNDED BY TRACTOR TRAILERS AND OTHER LARGE VEHICLES THAT WERE DRIVING A MINIMUM OF 65 MPH. I COULD'VE BEEN KILLED HAD I NOT THOUGHT QUICKLY TO GUIDE MY VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. I'VE NOW READ ABOUT NHTSA'S INVESTIGATION INTO THIS STALLING ISSUE WITH FORD VEHICLES AND THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO NOTIFY THE AGENCY ABOUT YET ANOTHER EVENT - MY OWN. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A FORD DEALERSHIP IN LONG ISLAND AND I AM AWAITING NEWS REGARDING THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. BUT AFTER READING ABOUT THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WHICH MIRROR MY OWN CAR'S POWER LOSS, I BELIEVE THAT I MAY ALSO HAVE A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. PLEASE EXPEDITE YOUR INVESTIGATION INTO THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE AT STAKE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 11 PM ON A COUNTRY ROAD, WHEN MY VEHICLE JUST STOPPED, I COASTED AROUND A CORNER AND PUT ON MY FLASHERS. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE AND IT WAS VERY DARK. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED FORD ROAD SIDE EMERGENCY SERVICE AND THEY INFORMED MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY FOR TOWING AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE WRECKER. I HAD JUST GOT THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE SHOP FROM THE FORD DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WHICH THEY HAD FOR OVER TWO WEEKS BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY WERE WAITING ON A PART BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND NO ONE HAD ONE SO THEY HAD TO ORDER IT. I GOT THE CAR OUT THAT DAY ABOUT 11AM, WHICH I HAD TO PAY $176.00, PLUS OVER $30.. FOR A RENTAL FOR 5 DAYS, THAT'S ALL THEY WOULD COVER. I HAD TO SAT IN THE DARK AND RAIN FOR TWO HOURS WAITING ON A WRECKER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I AM 67 YEARS OLD AND THANK GOODNESS MY SISTER IN LAW WAS WITH ME, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THE WRECKER TOWED MY VEHICLE TO FORD AND I AM WAITING ON THEM TO OPEN SO I CAN CALL THEM SO THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT THREE SEPARATE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. EACH TIME, I WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF, WITHOUT BEING HIT BY TRAFFIC. I HAD TO TAKE MY SEATBELT OFF AND RAISE UP TO PUT MY FULL BODY WEIGHT ONTO THE WHEEL. AFTER THE THIRD ATTEMPT AT RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK ON. I DRIVE ALMOST 50 MILES A DAY ON THE HIGHWAY TO AND FROM WORK, AND I'M VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR, AND WON'T LET MY KIDS RIDE IN IT NOW. PHONE CALLS TO FORD AND TWO LOCAL DEALERSHIPS HAVE BEEN NO HELP. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DOUBT THAT A CODE WILL SHOW ANY PROBLEM WITH A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK, AND THAT IF IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE, THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MINE IS THE FIRST REPORT OF THIS KIND, AND THAT A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT COST WILL BE UP TO ME AS MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, AND SHOULD NOT BE A WARRANTY ISSUE, IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS. *TR
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PART IS BAD.... I WAS DRIVING ON A OPEN HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO SPEED, IT WAS AS IF I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE HIGHWAY BUT WHEN IT WAS IDLING, IT WAS RUNNING REALLY ROUGH. AFTER SETTING FOR AWHILE IT SEEMED TO RUN OK BUT OF COURSE BEING A LADY I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING IT NOW. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO OUR DEALER, ASTORG FORD, THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THEY WOULD REPLACE THE DEFECTED PART BUT DIDN'T HAVE IT IN STOCK, THEY WOULD GET IT IN A FEW DAYS BUT STILL SENT IT BACK HOME FOR ME TO DRIVE AND OF COURSE I WILL NOT DRIVE IT TILL IT IS FIXED, I THINK IT WAS BAD ON THEIR PART TO SEND THE ESCAPE BACK TO ME THE WAY IT IS. PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME, THE CAR SURGED FORWARD ON ITS OWN AND NARROWLY MISSED THE NEIGHBOR. THIS SURGING OF THE ENGINE ON ITS OWN IS GOING TO CAUSE A DEATH ONE OF THESE DAYS. FORD REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ONE MORNING THE FORD ESCAPE WITH OUT WARNING STARTED TO FEEL LIKE THERE WAS NO THROTTLE WHEN SHE STEPPED IN THE GAS. SHE IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (COASTING BECAUSE THE GAS PEDDLE WASN'T RESPONDING. A LITTLE WRENCH (THROTTLE BODY/POWERTRAIN) LIGHT CAME ON, ON THE DASH. THIS HAPPENED TWICE ON THIS DAY, BOTH TIMES OUT OF THE BLUE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT AND IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE SO NEW AND SUCH LOW MILEAGE. *TR
ACCELERATING FROM TRAFFIC LIGHT, IN LEFT LANE, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR. MANAGE TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED ENGINE. ALL APPEARED NORMAL. I MANEUVERED TO A ROAD WITH LESS TRAFFIC TO CONTINUE HOME. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WITHIN A MILE. *TR
ON 1/10/14 UPON PULLING ONTO AN EXIT OFF OF A MAJOR INTERSTATE AS I SLOWED DOWN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE HAD POWER BUT THE ENGINE SHUT OFF ON IT'S OWN. I PUT HAZARD LIGHTS ON, CAR IN PARK AND STARTED AGAIN FINE. AGAIN LATER THAT EVENING I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND UPON PULLING OFF AN EXIT THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN. 1/11/14 I DROVE HOME ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, CAME TO STOP LIGHT AND ENGINE LOST POWER AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND PARK. ENGINE RESTARTED FINE AND VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO STALL AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION. THIS TO ME IS DANGEROUS LOSING ENGINE POWER. I AM AFRAID THIS COULD CAUSE ME TO BE REAR-ENDED IF THIS KEEPS UP. I AM SEEING THE DEALER FIRST THING NEXT WEEK. *TR
THE REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN. FIRST IT STARTED OFF WITH SOMETIMES OPENING AND THEN NOT OPENING. THEN AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING, IT WOULD OPEN. NOW IT WON'T OPEN AT ALL. WHEN I PUSH ON THE BUTTON TO OPEN THE DOOR, I CAN HEAR IT DOING SOMETHING, BUT THE HATCH REMAINS LOCKED. *TR
DROVE CAR TO WORK, PARKED IN THE OUTSIDE LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 6:30 A.M. RECEIVED A CALL ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER BY SECURITY THAT MY "WINDOW SHATTERED". THINKING SOMETHING HIT THE WINDOW, I WENT DOWN TO SEE THE DAMAGE. THE SECURITY OFFICER WHO WAS IN A BOOTH SEVERAL CARS AWAY FROM MINE SAID HE HEARD A VERY LOUD POP, WHEN HE WENT TO INVESTIGATE HE NOTICED MY BACK HATCH WINDOW JUST SHATTERED. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT MAYBE IF WAS FROM THE COLD, IT WAS COLD THAT MORNING, BUT IT HAS BEEN COLDER BEFORE AND I DID NOT USE THE REAR DEFROST THAT MORNING. WHILE DOING SOME INVESTIGATING MYSELF, IT SEEMS THAT FORD HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THE 2010/2011 HATCH WINDOWS SHATTERING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED DURING A TURN. THE RESULT OF THE FAILURE WAS A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN MY HEADING AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE. AFTER PULLING OVER, I TURNED THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF AND THEN BACK ON. MY POWER STEERING WAS THEN REESTABLISHED. I HAVE HAD THREE REPEAT INSTANCES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FAILURE THAT OCCURS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS WAS NOT WEATHER INDUCED; I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND THIS OCCURRED ON A 65 DEGREE DAY. *TR
DRIVING ON A WINDING, MOUNTAINOUS ROAD THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WAS NOT RESPONSIVE TO THE ACCELERATOR. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER, SO I KEPT GOING, VERY SLOWLY, AND THEN IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATING RESPONSIVENESS, ONLY TO LOSE POWER AGAIN. THIS CONTINUED FOR THE 4 MILES IT TOOK FOR ME TO GET HOME. I HOPED IT WAS SOME BAD GAS AND WAS A ONE-TIME EVENT - UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN, AND I WAS AGAIN ABLE TO GET HOME. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. *TR
2011 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE WAS UNDERSIZED. WHILE DRIVING, HE FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND INSTEAD HIS FOOT HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ON ONE OCCASION, THE CONSUMER HIT THE BUMPER OF ANOTHER VEHICLE, AND ANOTHER OCCASION, HE WAS FORCED TO DRIVE THROUGH A TRAFFIC CONTROLLING ARM AT A LOCAL GUARD HOUSE, BREAKING THE EXTENDED BARRIER ARM.*JB UPDATED 11/26/14
CAR TAKES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO TURN WHEEL ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS.TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THIS PROBLEM IS DIFFERENT THAN THE RECALL 14S05. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND COST 1200 TO FIX. I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT IS RECALL RELATED. *TR
IT'S STALLING IN MOTION OR SUDDENLY SURGING FORWARD WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, POSING A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS, OTHER MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS. INTERMITTENT VEHICLE STALLS AND SURGES AS THEY ENTER TRAFFIC FROM A STOPPED POSITION OR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
ACCELERATED FROM A STOP AND CAR LURCHED AND ENGINE SEEMED ABOUT TO QUIT, GOT "WRENCH LIGHT" AND WAS ABLE TO CREEP TO GET INTO PARKING LOT. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON CAR AND SAID THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
DRIVING ON 5 LANRE PAVED ROAD AT 50 MPH WHEN ENGINE LOST POWER DID NOT STALL. NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND COAST INTO PARKING LOT SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED PROBLEM WENT AWAY. TOOK TO DEALER 3 DAYS LATER WHERE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND STALLED TO A VERY SLOW SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT WITH ENGINE BARELY RUNNING. AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF AND PREPARING TO CALL AAA, TRIED STARTING ENGINE AND IT RAN FINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR FOR A CODE CHECK. CODE WAS P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN. I AM JUST GOING OUT OF WARRANTY (30 DAYS AGO IS 3RD ANNIVERSARY OF PURCHASE) AND FEEL THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BEYOND THE WARRANTY. HAD THIS HAPPENED WITH TRAFFIC CLOSE BEHIND AT 70 MPH, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS THE SLOWING WAS DRAMATIC WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKES. THIS CONDITION IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
CAR STALLED. WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE WERE GOING DOWN A ROAD THAT HAD NO PLACE TO PULL OVER. WE WERE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED BUT WAS VERY SLOW TO START. WE TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK HOME AND IT DID IT SEVERAL MORE TIMES. CALLED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND IS GOING TO COST OVER $400 TO FIX. WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO ENTER MERGING HIGHWAY, MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE TOOK MANY SECONDS TO STALL AND THEN FINALLY ENGAGE. MY SON ASKED WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN, AND ITS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE NOT KNOWING WHEN ENTERING THE TRAFFIC, THAT YOU WILL NOT KNOW IF THE CAR IS GOING TO MAKE IT IN THE TRAFFIC. I DROVE FAR AND QUITE A BIT YESTERDAY AND IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES. I AM TAKING THE CAR IN NEXT WEEK, EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER THINKS NOTHING IS WRONG. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING, AND HAD PULLED FROM A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO STALL, AND SHE HAD NO CONTROL- NO BRAKES, NO THROTTLE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DIDN'T STOP HER, AND SHE FINALLY PUSHED IT INTO PARK AND THAT DID NOTHING. IT ROLLED TO A STOP, ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE RUNNING. SHE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED IT. IT RESTARTED, AND SHE PROCEEDED TO DRIVE TO HER DESTINATIONS WHICH WAS CLOSEBY. VERY SCARY, BUT FORTUNATELY, NO OTHER REAL TRAFFIC, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. *TR
AFTER INTERMITTENT 3 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS, HAD THROTTLE BODY CLEANED 12/14/2013 PER FORD TSB. ON THIS DATE, 12/16/13 IT FAILED AGAIN AND HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. FORD WOULD NOT COVER IT AFTER 36,000 OR 3 YEARS AS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS CONDITION NOT TO REPLACE. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY FOR REPLACEMENT. *TR
WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT MY VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR QUIT FUNCTIONING. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME WITHIN A 14 DAY PERIOD. TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEM, I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF VIA THE KEY, WAITED 3 MINUTES AND TRIED AGAIN. SAME THING. NEXT I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED 5 MINUTES AND THE THROTTLE BODY BEGAN FUNCTIONING AGAIN. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY CLEANED THE AFFECTED PART AND RE-INSTALLED IT. *TR
WAS DRIVING 2011 FORD ESCAPE AND CAR STARTED TO JERK AND DECELERATED WITH GAS PEDAL NOT DOING ANYTHING. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE POWERTRAIN WRENCH LIGHT HAD COME ON THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. RESTARTED THE CAR A MINUTE LATER AND IT DROVE A FEW HUNDRED FEET BEFORE SAME THING HAPPENED AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAPPENED TWICE AND I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR 3 MONTHS. IT' STALLS WHEN I'M DRIVING. I HAD TO STOP THE CAR ON THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IN NY/NJ. TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND START AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK IN BUSY TRAFFIC, SUDDENLY THE ENGINE CAME TO AN IDLE AND A SMALL ICON OF A ?WRENCH? LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER TRYING TO MANEUVER THROUGH TRAFFIC ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY AT 5 MPH (ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT) I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT, THE ICON OF THE WRENCH WAS GONE AND THE CAR PROCEEDED TO RUN FINE. I'M REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I HAVE HEARD THIS HAPPEN TO OTHER PEOPLE AND IT WAS CAUSED BY A THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. *TR
WHILE BACKING FROM A DRIVE THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER/ELECTRONIC STEERING. I HAVE DRIVEN OLDER VEHICLES WITHOUT POWER STEERING BUT THIS WAS TWICE AS HARD TO TURN. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME AND HAD TO MAKE SURE TRAFFIC WAS CLEAR AT INTERSECTIONS TO AVOID OTHER TRAFFIC WHEN TURNING SINCE I COULD NOT AVOID GOING INTO OPPOSING LANES. RESET ITSELF LATER BUT WENT BACK OUT A WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MUCH AND HIT A SMALL AMOUNT OF SLUSH. LIMPED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING SHE PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL IT. REVIEWS ONLINE SHOW THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AT LEAST 2008 THAT I CAN SEE. ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT RESULT IN A CRASH THE POSSIBILITY DOES INCREASE IF THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR
THE ESCAPE LEAKS GASOLINE THROUGHOUT THE GAS PUMP ONLY WHEN IT'S TURNED ON. AND THE BACK DOOR DOESN'T OPEN, IT'S LOCKED. *TR
LAST NIGHT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 55 MPH MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SOUNDS SLOWED IMMEDIATELY TO LESS THAN 5 MPH. I MANAGED TO LET THE CAR CREEP INTO A LOCAL CAR TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. THIS MORNING I CALLED MY FORD DEALER WHO ASKED THAT I LEAVE THE KEYS WITH THE VEHICLE AND ARRANGE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. UPON ARRIVING TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP A SERVICEMAN SUGGESTED I TRY ENGAGING DRIVE AND REVERSE, I DID SO AND THE VEHICLE DID ENGAGE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE FORD DEALER PRIOR TO CALLING ROADSIDE TOWING AND STATED THAT I WOULD NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS FIXED. THE DEALER SAID HE WOULD ADVISE ME AS SOON AS THEY INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 MPH, WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO SLOW. I NOTICE THAT THE WRENCH ICON WAS LIT ON THE DISPLAY. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT ONLY AT ABOUT 1000RPM AND STILL SLOWING DOWN. INCREASING THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO AFFECT ON THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD ON TO A SIDE STREET. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO PULL ITSELF ALONG, BUT ONLY AT A SNAILS PACE. I STOPPED THE CAR AND SHUT ENGINE OFF FOR A MINUTE OR 2, RETRIED STARTING IT AND IT CRANKED SO I MADE IT HOME. THE CAR DONE THE VERY SAME THING THE NEXT NIGHT, THIS TIME DRIVING AT 65MPH ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY.. THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM OTHERS HAVE DESCRIBED CONCERNING THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS VEHICLE IS TOO NEW FOR THESE PROBLEMS TO BE HAPPENING. A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
