DRIVING PA TURNPIKE AT 10:00 PM 7/19/2013 @ 65 MPH SB. HEARD THUMP, WRENCH LITE CAME ON, THEN ENGINE LITE. NO POWER ON ACCELERATION. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. CALLED AAA. COULDN'T START CAR KEPT SPUTTERING. WAITED FOR 1 1/2 HOURS NO AAA. TRIED TO START CAR. STARTED. CONTINUED ON JOURNEY. NEXT DAY TOOK TO DEALER. GOT AN APPOINTMENT FOR 7/23/2013 @ 2PM. DROVE CAR ON MON. 7/22/2013. GOING 35 MPH. SAME THING. THUMP, WRENCH LITE, ENGINE LITE.NO POWER. COASTED TO OFF RAMP. TOOK TO DEALER ON 7/23/2013 FOR DIAGNOSTIC.FAILED THROTTLE BODY ASSY. REMOVED AND REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND REPROGRAMMED THE PCM AND RETESTED. COST..$500.68...OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
AFTER TRAVELING FOR A APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES, MY CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING DOWN THE ROAD. AT THIS POINT MY GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN RPM OR SPEED, THEN MY ENGINE BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I BARELY WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE. THEN, A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH OF MY VEHICLE. I THEN TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE LIGHT WAS GONE AND THE GAS PEDAL WORKED ONCE MORE. I MERGED INTO TRAFFIC AND CONTINUED ON MY TRIP WITH SLIGHT HESITATION ON THE REMAINDER OF MY TRIP. THIS WHOLE SCENARIO HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE 19TH OF JULY 2013 ONLY 20 MINUTES INTO MY TRIP HOME. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT FORD DEALERSHIP BEING CHECKED OUT. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR STALLS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY IN THE LEFT LANE, WHEN I ACCELERATED THE MADE A COUPLE OF JERKS, THRU THE WRENCH SIGN ON THE DASH AND LOST ALL POWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES, ONCE FROM A DEAD STOP TURNING LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC AND TWICE WHILE ACCELERATING AT AN AVERAGE SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF PROPULSION OF THE CAR AND ALL YOU CAN DO IS HOPE AND PRAY YOU CAN COAST TO SAFETY. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED ON A BUSY INTERSTATE WHEN THE THROTTLE GOES OUT. FORD REPLACED MY THROTTLE YESTERDAY FOR $328 AND NEVER SAID A WORD ABOUT THIS BEING AN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR! THIS ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT AND RECALLED! *TR
MY WIFE WAS TAKING HER MOTHER HOME ON THE 18TH OF JULY WHEN THE ESCAPE STARTED TO HESITATE AND SURGE GOING UP A HILL. WHEN SHE PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE.THE POWERTRAIN AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON SO SHE CALLED ME IMMEDIATELY. SHE WAS AFRAID TO LEAVE IT RUNNING SO SHE SHUT IT DOWN. WHAT MADE THINGS WORSE WAS THE FACT THAT IT WAS 97 DEGREES OUT THAT DAY AND SHE HAD HER MOTHER WITH HER WHO IS HANDICAPPED. AFTER THE ENGINE COOLED A BIT, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT THE REST OF THE WAY TO HER MOTHER'S HOUSE. AFTER DROPPING HER OFF, THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN TWICE ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR FACILITY. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. AS A FORMER MECHANIC AND NOW A PARTS PERSON I CAN SAY WITH CONFIDENCE THAT THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO KIDS IN TRAFFIC ON 95 WHEN MY TRUCK JUST SEEMED TO STOP WORKING. IT DID NOT STALL, THE ENGINE WAS STILL WORKING, I COULD STEER BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE . I QUICKLY HAD TO GET OVER FOUR LANES TO THE SHOULDER . WHEN I DID, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT WAS A HARD START, ALMOST AS IF IT WERE GOING TO NOT START. TO GET .I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED AS BEST AS I COULD TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT~ WHO IN TURN ,OVER THE PHONE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS ELECTRICAL AND INFORMED ME MY WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER IT, I SHOULD TAKE IT TO MY MECHANIC. I DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AND HE TRIED TO FIX WHATEVER MAY HAVE CAUSED THE PROBLEM, COSTING US $500. MY HUSBAND PICKED IT UP AND WE TOOK IT OUT THAT NIGHT ~ IT HAPPENED FIVE MORE TIMES . THIS WAS SATURDAY NIGHT, MONDAY I TRIED TO CALL FORD AND TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS ON THE PHONE OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT 3-4 HOURS TRYING TO HAVE THIS HANDLED. FINALLY, I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC~NOT THE DEALERSHIP~ ABOUT THIS BEING SOMETHING I COULD LOOK UP, THAT OTHER OWNERS HAD THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE. FORD TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN ON WED, I HAD TO CALL FORD CORPORATE TO FIND OUT IF I WAS ENTITLED TO A RENTAL AND DID I HAVE TO PAY A $100 DEDUCTIBLE. IT WAS LIKE PULLING TEETH TO HAVE THIS HANDLED. ON WED WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO DROP IT OFF, AFTER MORE DISCONNECTED PHONE CALLS AND VOICEMAILS~ I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A DIRECTOR OR MANAGER. IN MIND EXPERIENCE HE WAS TREATING ME AS IF I WERE A CHILD AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE FORD ESCAPES.AFTER TELLING HIM WHAT I FOUND OUT ONLINE I WAS TOLD "IF YOU READ ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET, THAT'S SIMPLY YOUR RESEARCH." I AM DISGUSTED WITH MY EXPERIENCE,MY TRUCK IS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. I DO NOT TRUST A COMPANY TO FIX SOMETHING THEY ARE PRETENDING DOESN'T EXIST. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON ROAD WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE BEGAN DECELERATING AND PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR WAS USELESS. IT BEGAN JERKING, LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO SHIFT BACK INTO GEAR OR DOWN SINCE THERE WAS A SUDDEN DECREASE IN SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT AND PUT IN INTO PARK. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ALLOWED IT TO SIT FOR A MOMENT. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON. IT TOOK A MOMENT FOR IT TO KICK OVER, BUT EVENTUALLY IT DID. I GOT BACK OUT ONTO THE ROAD. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN NOT MORE THAN 100 FEET DOWN THE ROAD. AGAIN I PULLED IT TO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME AFTER THAT WITH NO ISSUES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I WAS TRAVELING AT APROX. 35MPH WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED. MY RPM GAUGE STARTED TO "BOUNCE" FROM 1 TO 4 REPEATEDLY. MAKE IT VERY HARD TO STOP AND COULD NOT GIVE IT GAS. AT THE SAME TIME, MY POWER-TRAIN WARNING LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, A/C WAS RUNNING (MAX A/C) AND SUDDENLY WHITE SMOKE/MIST WAS COMING OUT OF VENTS. THE CABIN STARTED TO SMELL LIKE COOLANT. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, ENGINE TEMP REMAINED NORMAL, BUT IT CONTINUED TO COME OUT ALONG WITH COOL AIR. THIS INITIALLY HAPPENED DURING MORNING COMMUTE, AND SAME THING HAPPENED DURING EVENING COMMUTE. AFTER TAKING TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE HEATER CORE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AT AN ESTIMATE OF $1,150. CALLED FORD TO REPORT THE PROBLEM, AS A HEATER CORE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED ON A VEHICLE WITH THIS FEW MILES ON IT, AND JUST OVER TWO YEARS OLD. WAITING FOR RESOLUTION. WILL BE ALMOST A WEEK WITHOUT CAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT DROVE FINE ALMOST A WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN MAYBE 3 MILES FROM MY HOME I TURNED ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED DROVE ABOUT 1 MILE AND IT DONE IT AGAIN AND PICTURE OF A WRENCH CAME ON INSTRUMENT PANEL I DROVE ABOUT 1 MILE AGAIN AND STALLED AGAIN. I STARTED VEHICLE AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I MADE IT TO MY DRIVEWAY. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE CALLED AND SAID IT IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND WOULD BE A FEW DAYS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO ORDER THE PART AND IT WILL BE $349.00. I WAS SURFING THE WEB TO SEE WHAT THE PART WAS WHEN I SAY THIS PAGE ABOUT OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BEEN STALLING DAILY SINCE JULY 2013. VEHICLE WHEN IN FOR SERVICE 4-30-14 DO TO DRIVERS CONCERN OF VEHICLE CRASHING AT FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREET SPEEDS. ON 4-29-14 THE VEHICLE STALLED (5) TIMES AND SEEMS TO STALL DURING THROTTLE CHANGES FROM CLOSED TO TRAFFIC FLOW SPEEDS. THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" AND "FILL CAP" LIGHT WERE ON. DEALER PULLED CODES P144A, P1450 AND P2196 AND REPLACED THE PURGEVALVE (9U5Z-9C915-H). THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN ALONG WITH THE VEHICLE EXCEEDING EMISSION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET, WHEN WITHOUT WARNING, I SUDDENLY HAD NO POWER AT ALL. MY ACCELERATION WAS GONE, AND I THOUGHT THAT THE ENGINE HAD DIED, HOWEVER EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL AND GOT NOTHING, FORTUNATELY THERE WAS A CONVENIENCE STORE COMING UP ON MY RIGHT, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO TURN INTO. AT THAT POINT I NOTICED THE "WRENCH" ICON LIGHTED UP ON THE DASHBOARD, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND SEE IF IT WAS A GLITCH, SINCE I HAD JUST HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP EARLIER IN THE DAY. AT LEAST I WAS HOPING THAT WAS THE CASE. THE CAR STARTED PERFECTLY, IT TOOK A FEW SECONDS TO SHAKE ITSELF, WHICH STILL WORRIED ME, AND PROCEEDED TO ACT NORMALLY AS I DROVE HOME, WHERE I CURRENTLY AM. I ADVISED MY SON ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND HE CHECKED UP ON AUTO DEFECTS ON THE FORD ESCAPE AND BROUGHT THEM TO MY ATTENTION, THAT IS WHY I AM REPORTING WHAT HAPPENED TO ME TODAY. I WILL BE BRINGING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING DUE TO MY NEEDING THE USE OF MY VEHICLE FOR WORK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. I FELT THE ENGINE LOSE POWER AND SAW THAT THE CAR WAS DECELERATING. I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL WITH NO EFFECT. I SIGNALED AND MOVED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET AFTER I REACHED THE SHOULDER, THE CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD AND STALLED. I TURNED IT OFF, LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN IT ON AGAIN. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I CALLED AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. IN SPEAKING TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY, HE TOLD ME E PROBLEM WAS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS DEALERSHIP WAS BACK ORDERED FOR THE PART AS 5 OTHER FORD VEHICLES WERE AWAITING A NEW THROTTLE BODY. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I REALIZED THAT MY VEHICLE ALSO EXPERIENCED A "LURCHING FORWARD" WHICH WAS LIKELY ALSO RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS LURCHING HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40 MPH AND MY VEHICLE JUST QUIT RUNNING (LOST POWER) AND I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH FIGURE ON THE DASH. AFTER LETTING MY ESCAPE SIT FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS,IT STARTED RIGHT UP. AFTER IT STARTED, I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND PROCEEDED TO GO DOWN THE ROAD AND AFTER ABOUT TWO MILES, MY VEHICLE QUIT RUNNING AGAIN. AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF SITTING, I STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND MANAGED TO GET INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS A THROTTLE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE PART WHICH COST ME $342.00. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS HAD BEEN A PROBLEM WITH MANY ESCAPES AND SAID THIS PART MAY BE ON THE VERGE OF A RECALL. *TR
CAR DRIFTED TO A STOP WHILE IN GEAR. TURNED OFF IGNITION. RESTATED CAR. IT ACCELERATED IN PARK WITHOUT HAVING FOOT ON GAS PEDDLE. TRIED DRIVING AGAIN ,THE CAR REPEATED THIS PATTERN 3 MORE TIMES. FINALLY GOT IT TO OPERATE AFTER LETTING IT REST FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I WAS A WRECK DRIVING IT HOME, 5 MILES. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT USED ONLY 4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. IT HAS RUINED MY CONFIDENCE IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
AT A STOP LIGHT. STEP ON GAS PEDAL WHEN LIGHT TURNS GREEN, NOTHING HAPPENS. ABLE TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF RODE. WRENCH LIGHT ON. TURN CAR OFF AND ON. WRENCH LIGHT GONE AND CAR DRIVES FINE. TOOK CAR TO MY MECHANIC THAT SAME DAY AND NOTHING "REGISTERED" ON THE CAR'S COMPUTER SO NO PROBLEM IDENTIFIED, ALTHOUGH I WAS TOLD IT "MIGHT" BE THE "THROTTLE BODY," AS HE'D JUST REPLACED ONE ON ANOTHER FORD. AS A "SAFETY PRECAUTION" I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TURN IT ON/OFF TO GET IT GOING IF IT SHOULD HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY. CALLED THE FORD SERVICE PEOPLE AND TOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED - THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN NOT FIX ANYTHING IF NOTHING REGISTERED ON THE CAR'S COMPUTER., I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TWO-THREE WEEKS GO BY - CAR DRIVING OK (WHEN GOING TO WORK I MAKE SURE TO DRIVE IN RIGHT LANE "JUST IN CASE" AND I NO LONGER CAN DRIVE ON HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILD IN CAR). THEN, IT HAPPENS: WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE CAR LOSES POWER AGAIN. I GET OFF THE ROAD. ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT ARE ON. CAR TOWED TO DEALER. THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. I AM DRIVING A RENTAL. *TR
TRAVELING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE NORTH WEST OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA AT 5:00 IN THE MORNING USING CRUISE CONTROL. CRUISE CONTROL WENT OFF AND CAR HAD A CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF POWER. NO RESPONSE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE OPEN END WRENCH EMBLEM CAME ON THE DASH BOARD. CAR SPEED DROPPED TO 2.5 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL DOUBLE SURGES UP TO 4.5 MPH. HAD TO DRIVE ON SHOULDER FOR 1 1/2 MILES AT 2.5 MPH IN ORDER TO GET TO AN EXIT AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE. WAS ON MY OWN AND TOTALLY UNFAMILIAR WITH THE AREA. CALLED FORD MOTOR ASSIST AND THEY TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. THIS WAS A SUNDAY SO HAD TO SPEND NIGHT IN MOTEL BEFORE COULD SEE SERVICE PEOPLE. DIAGNOSIS ENDED UP BEING THROTTLE CONTROL NEEDING REPLACED. HAD COMPLAINED TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT SOMETHING BEING WRONG WITH WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AS THE CARE WOULD SURGE OR SHIFT FUNNY SEVERAL TIMES CLEAR UP TO JUST PRIOR TO REACHING 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. SINCE THIS OCCURRED AT 37,195 AND 500 MILES AWAY FROM HOME IT WAS CONSIDERED AN OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIR AND COST $478.00. I AM THANKFUL IT WAS 5:00 IN THE MORNING ON A SUNDAY AS HAD THIS OCCURRED IN RUSH HOUR IN A FURTHER LEFT HAND LANE, THE SUDDEN DECELERATION WOULD LIKELY HAVE CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM!!!!! *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND MYSELF AS PASSENGERS WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. I DROVE IT ABOUT TWO MILES AND IT, AGAIN, WENT INTO LIMP MODE......ENGINE RUNNING BUT NO POWER. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE HAD IT OVER A WEEK AND SAY THAT THEY HAVE DRIVEN IT AND CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY CAN NOT FIX ANYTHING UNLESS IT SHOWS UP ON THE COMPUTER. THERE IS ONLY 150 MILES LEFT WHILE IT IS UNDER WARRANTY (36,000 MILES). I WILL NOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. WE ARE AT A STALEMATE AND I AM OUT TRANSPORTATION. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED THE ESCAPE SUDDENLY LOSES POWER. THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING BUT THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SLOW AND DEPRESSING THE THROTTLE HAS NO EFFECT. THE ONLY INDICATION ON THE DASH IS A SMALL WRENCH SHAPED LIGHT ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, I TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART. FROM THE POINT THE ESCAPE RUNS FINE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED TWO WEEKS AGO. IT HAS OCCURRED SIX TIMES. 4 OCCURRENCES ON THE HIGHWAY AND SPEED AND 2 OCCURRENCES ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS WHILE TRAVELING IN THE 20 - 25 MPH RANGE. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN GAS PEDAL ON 2011 FORD ESCAPE V6 BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. GOT VEHICLE TO SHOULDER AFTER ALMOST CRASHING IN TRAFFIC. RED WRENCH LIGHT ON DASHBOARD WAS ON. TURNED VEHICLE OFF THEN RESTARTED AND APPEARED TO BE OK. DROVE HOME APPROX. 10 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER WHO CHECKED CODES AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS NOT HELPFUL. INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT WAS MOST LIKELY A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS ON THE SHORT LIST FOR A RECALL. PURCHASED AN OBD II SENSOR AND PLUGGED IN WHILE DRIVING TO GET THE CODE. PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN WITH A FAULT CODE OF P2111 - THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM - STUCK OPEN. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ALONG AT 55 MPH, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. THE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT IDENTIFIED IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL AS "POWERTRAIN" LIT UP AND THE VEHICLE JUST WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR WHATSOEVER. I MANAGED TO COAST TO A SIDE ROAD AND EXIT TO THE RIGHT. ONCE STOPPED, I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. IT IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS THAT DAY. I CONTACTED THE DEALER, BUT THEY INFORMED ME SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THERE WAS A $95 CHARGE TO JUST CHECK THE CODES! I TOOK IT TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC WHO SCANNED IT AND NO CODES APPEARED. IT HAS SINCE HAPPENED 5 MORE TIMES, PROGRESSIVELY GETTING MORE FREQUENT. THIS PAST FRIDAY (16 AUG) I HAD IT BACK AT MY MECHANIC WHO CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY/SYSTEM AND CHANGED THE OIL. YESTERDAY (19 AUG) IT AGAIN LOST POWER AND THEN AGAIN TODAY - AND TODAY I NARROWLY AVOIDED A COLLISION DUE TO THE SUDDEN DROP IN SPEED WHILE DRIVING IN COMMUTING TRAFFIC! I DRIVE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT DAILY TO/FROM WORK AND I AM NOW EXTREMELY NERVOUS ABOUT STARTING HOME AFTER THE INCIDENT THIS MORNING. THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS IT IMMEDIATELY! I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND THERE'S A HUGE AMOUNT OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE!!!!
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED, THE VEHICLE INSTANTLY LOST POWER. GAS PEDAL WAS NON-RESPONSIVE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE SPOT OFF THE MAIN ROADWAY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO PARK, IT IDLED ROUGHLY AND THE ORANGE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS. TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO RETURN HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL DEALER SERVICE THE NEXT DAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT THE REPAIR PART NEEDED IS CURRENTLY ON EXTENSIVE BACKORDER, MAYBE UP TO SEVERAL WEEKS. THE PRIMARY CONCERN OVER THIS TYPE OF ISSUE IS THAT IT COULD OCCUR TO SOMEONE WHO IS AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND WOULD BE UNABLE TO REACH A STOPPING POINT SAFELY. THE FACT THAT THE PART NEEDED TO FIX THE ISSUE IS ON EXTENSIVE BACKORDER INDICATES THAT THIS IS HARDLY AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000.

PURCHASED A PREOWNED FORD ESCAPE IN MARCH 2013. HAD APPROXIMATELY 28,000 MILES. DROVE FINE UNTIL JULY 8 2013. ABOUT 1/2 MILE FROM HOME, DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ESCAPE STALLED AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED FINE. DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE AND STALLED AGAIN. TURNED CAR OFF AGAIN AND RESTARTED, THEN DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE HOME AND PARKED IN GARAGE. CHECKED OIL, AND LEVEL WAS FINE. CALLED LOCAL FORD DEALER AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY SUGGESTED I DRIVE IT IN SO THEY CAN TAKE A LOOK AT IT. TOLD THEM I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING IT THE 5 MILES TO THE DEALER. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR MANY MONTHS WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE RIGHT WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. IT WOULD SHIFT VERY HARD & JERK EVEN HARDER FROM 1ST/2ND & 2ND/3RD. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP & THEY EXPLAINED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION SO I PAID FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY HAD 32K MILES. THEY ALSO AT THIS TIME RESENT THE COMPUTER TO MY DRIVING HABITS? THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP LAST WEEK TWICE & THEY BELIEVE THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY BUT ALL COMPUTER CHECKS SHOWED THE TRUCK AS FINE. YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING 45MPH, IT ALL OF SUDDEN SHIFTED HARD LIKE IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL & THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. I DID NOT LOSE POWER STEERING & WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I AT THIS TIME NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON IN THE LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE DASH. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT FORD TOLD ME THIS WOULD HAPPEN & THAT I NEEDED TO GET THE TRUCK TO THEM WITH THE LIGHT ON SO THAT THEY COULD GET THE CODE THEY NEEDED IN ORDER TO FILE THE CLAIM WITH FORD & REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS TOO FAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO JERK DOWN THE ROAD OVER 5 MILES IN NOTHING MORE THAN A CREEPER PACE ESPECIALLY DURING RUSH HOUR. WHEN I APPLIED MY FOOT TO THE GAS PEDAL IT WAS NON RESPONSIVE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT IF I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK & RESTARTED IT THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD GO AWAY & THAT IT DOES NOT SEND AN ERROR CODE TO THE COMPUTER FOR THEM TO REFERENCE. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF, BUT NOT BEFORE TAKING PICTURES FOR MY RECORDS. I TRIED TO RESTART THE TRUCK & IT STRUGGLED BUT FINALLY TURNED OVER OF WHICH THEN IT DROVE FINE. ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP & THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THAT THE PARTS ARE ON AN INDEFINITE BACK ORDER. NOW WE WAIT. A COMPLETE INCONVENIENCE & RIDICULOUS THAT FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM. *TR

I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC, THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR REPEAT THE FAILS AT THAT TIME, SO THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENED. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, I'M ON THE HIGHWAY HEADED TO WORK AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN, SAME SITUATION, EXCEPT THIS TIME ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND HE WORKED ON IT FOR A FEW DAYS, CAME BACK AND SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BEFORE I DID THAT, I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THE LEAD MECHANIC THERE AND WITHOUT EVEN SEEING THE CAR, HE AGREED WITH MY MECHANIC THAT IT 100% SOUNDED LIKE A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH A TOOL WRENCH. I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL AND IT SAID THROTTLE PROBLEM. I TURNED IT OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT DROVE PERFECT FOR HALF A BLOCK AND LOST POWER AGAIN. FINALLY I GOT IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND PUT IT BACK IN THE GARAGE WHERE IT SITS, UNTIL I CAN FIND OUT IF THIS IS A FORD DEFECT. *TR

I COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE AND PARKED ON THE SHOULDER, OR GRASS BESIDE THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A MINUTE, THEN STARTED IT UP AGAIN. IT SEEMED TO BE OK FOR ABOUT 3 MORE MILES AT A REDUCED RATE OF SPEED WITH FLASHERS ON, THEN IT DID THE SAME THING. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO A GARAGE UP THE STREET FROM WHERE I LIVE. THEY INDICATED IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY DEFECT AND THAT THE PART WAS BACKORDERED. I HAD FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOW THE CAR TO HARRIS FORD IN NEWPORT NEWS VA AND THEY CONFIRMED YESTERDAY THAT THE THROTTLE BODY PART HAD FAILED ON THE VEHICLE AND THAT IT WAS BACKORDERED. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN BRINGING A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST FORD BECAUSE THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND IF THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM THEY SHOULD AT THE LEAST DO A RECALL AND HAVE AMPLE PARTS ON HAND TO REPAIR THE VEHICLES IN A TIMELY MANNER, OR PREVENT FAILURE BEFORE A FEMALE DRIVING ALONE IS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DRIVING WHAT SHE ASSUMES TO BE A SAFE VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. THIS HAPPENED ONCE MORE A WEEK LATER - WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR TO FORD SERVICE WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS LIKELY THE THROTTLE MODULE BUT FORD WOULD NOT REPLACE IT EVEN THOUGH OUR CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY FOR A FEW MORE MONTHS. ON 7/13/2013, WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY AGAIN AT 60MPH APPROX. AND WITHIN A 5MILE STRETCH OF FREEWAY, THE SAME THING HAPPENED 5 TIMES, EACH TIME WE WERE IN HEAVY FREEWAY TRAFFIC. WE WERE ON OUR WAY OUT OF TOWN, BUT TURNED AROUND AND CAME BACK, TAKING A BACK ROAD RATHER THAN THE FREEWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING WHEN IT APPEARED TO STALL SHUT CAR OFF I DROVE TO DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED IT WAS BAD THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. IT WILL COST $411TO FIX DEALER OFFERED TO TAKE 10% OFF.IF MY WIFE WAS DRIVING SHE WOULD HAVE TOTALLY TOTALLY PANICKED AND MOST LIKELY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. FORD NEEDS TO STEP TO THE PLATE AND FIX THIS. *TR
VEHICLE WENT INTO STALL WHILE TRAVELING OFF OF EXIT RAMP. HAVE READ THAT THIS IS BEING INVESTIGATED AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED! DANGEROUS AND FELT UNSAFE WITH MY CHILD IN VEHICLE! IF THIS HAPPENED AT A HIGH SPEED ON HWY, IT COULD LEAD TO A CRASH AND INJURY OR EVEN DEATH! *TR
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. VEHICLE LOST POWER LIKE YOU HAD KICKED THE CRUISE OFF. PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED AND IT WORKED FINE. WENT ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND IT DID IT AGAIN. HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH THEY SAID WOULD COST $300 PLUS THE COST FOR TOWING. THIS WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND WHEN IT SUDDENLY DECELERATED. *TR
DRIVING AND LOST POWER, WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON. DROVE HOME. NEXT DAY I DROVE TO DEALERSHIP AND ALMOST DIDN'T MAKE IT. KEPT LOSING POWER, SO HAD TO DRIVE ABOUT 20 MPH WITH FLASHERS ON. IT WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE. *TR
DRIVING THE CAR WOULD RESULT IN THE CAR TO STALL. THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC VEHICLE. I WOULD HAVE TO PUT INTO NEUTRAL TO RESTART CAR. THEN THE RPM WOULD JUMP THEN STALL AGAIN. I TOOK IN THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED AND FOUND CODE THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK CLOSED SO THE CAR WOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT THE THROTTLE BODY BEING REPLACED. AFTER FIXED THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THE PROBLEM IS $500 LATER AFTER THE REPAIR AND THE CAR HAD NOT EVEN BROKE THE 50K YET. VERY BAD PROBLEM AND SEEMS A IF I AM NO THE ONLY ONE. AFTER LOOKING IT UP TO SEE IF I COULD GET THE PARTS MYSELF I SAW THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF DIFFERENT FORD VEHICLES AT THE SAME TIME IN THE SAME RANGE OF YEARS. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND JUST GLAD THE KIDS WEREN'T IN THE CARS AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
AS I BEGAN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP I REACHED ABOUT 15MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO VIBRATE VIOLENTLY.THE WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. I WAS ABLE TO GUIDE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE SHOP.THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND THE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER FROM FORD AND HE WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO ETA. THE MECHANIC WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT COULD TAKE UP TO A YEAR!!! HOW TO I PAY A CAR NOTE FOR A USELESS CAR AND HOW DO I GET TO WORK?! THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AND THE FORD ESCAPES THAT ARE STILL ON THE ROAD ARE A DANGER TO ALL WITHOUT THIS PROBLEM BEING FIXED! *TR
WHETHER I DRIVING IN DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC OR HIGHWAY MY FORD ESCAPE WOULD START HESITATION. COULD NOT GET A CHARGE FROM TO DRIVE SUV. OR MY ESCAPE WOULD POWER AND THE ENGINE WOULD DIE WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT FROM INTERSECTION. I TOOK FORD ESCAPE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP THEY DID WHATEVER TEST AND TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER PART. TWO WEEKS OF WAITING FOR PART TO ARRIVE AND STILL NO PART DEALERSHIP TOLD ME PART WAS ON A STATE ORDER BECAUSE I WAS IN FLORIDA WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND I WAS FROM ILLINOIS WITH MY TRIP ENDING AND NEEDED TO GET HOME. I FELT DEALERSHIP WAS GIVING ME RUN AROUND SO I CALLED MAIN HEADQUARTERS IN DETROIT, MICHIGAN AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WAS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE FORD WAS HAVING PROBLEMS FIGURING OUT PROBLEM AND THEREFORE COULD NOT SEND PART BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CORRECTED THROTTLE BODY PART TO SEND. I ASKED IF FORD WAS DOING A RECALL ON ESCAPE AND WAS TOLD NOT AT THIS TIME. I RECEIVED A CALLED FROM FORD MOTOR CO. ABOUT 2 DAYS LATER TELLING ME THE PART WOULD BE SENT TO DEALERSHIP BY WEDNESDAY OF FOLLOWING WEEK AND THAT A CALL WAS ALSO PLACED TO DEALERSHIP TO INFORM THEM THE PART WAS FOR MY ESCAPE NOT THE TWO FORD ESCAPES WITH SAME PROBLEM THAT WERE AHEAD OF MINE. BY THE FOLLOWING WEEK ON WEDNESDAY MY FORD ESCAPE WAS REPAIRED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME BACK TO ILLINOIS. TO THIS DAY I AM NOT SURE IF I HAVE A REPLACEMENT PART THAT HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM OR IF FORD MOTOR CO. SENT ME THE SAME PART THAT WILL AGAIN BREAK DOWN ON ME. I HAVE KEPT TRACK OF ALL PHONE CALLS I MADE DATE TIME AND WHO I SPOKE WITH AND ALSO THE CALLS FROM FORD MOTOR CO. TO ME. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE WHOLE MATTER AND I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
