I WAS TRAVELING AND SUDDENLY LOST POWER OR THROTTLE CONTROL. THE CAR STARTED STUMBLING AND I HAD NO POWER AS I PUSHED ON ACCELERATOR. THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON MY CONTROL PANEL. *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE ON 6/23/13 APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND IT SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND BEGAN TO JERK FORWARD. "WRENCH" INDICATOR APPEARED ON DASH. PULLED VEHICLE OVER AND WAITED; HOWEVER, PROBLEM CONTINUED. VEHICLE WOULD ONLY MOVE FORWARD AT LESS THAN 5 MPH WHILE JERKING AS IT TRAVELED. HAVE HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASE. A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE ON 2011, WHILE TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION, ALMOST CAUSING A SERIOUS CRASH. VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. SINCE THAT TIME, THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTING HARD AND CREATING NOISES; HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE FIND A PROBLEM. TODAY, THE VEHICLE "DIED" AGAIN AND HAD TO BE PULLED OF THE ROAD. HAVE HAD VEHICLE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPEATEDLY TO ADDRESS ISSUE; HOWEVER, NO FIX HAS BEEN PROVIDED. NOW, JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED (CURRENTLY 39,104) THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED AGAIN. *TR
IT HAS HAPPEN FOUR TIMES, THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 25-30MPH, THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH, THE THIRD TIME ABOUT 25 MPH, EACH OF THESE TIMES MY ESCAPE WOULD LOSE POWER, THE ENGINE WAS MISSING REALLY BAD, AND THE GAS PEDAL DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, YOU COULD PRESS IT ALL THE WAY DOWN, NOTHING HAPPEN, THANKFULLY EACH OF THESE TIMES I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, STOP, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN THE CAR OFF, SET FOR A FEW MINS THEN START AND EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL, THE LAST TIME IT HAPPEN IT WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I COULDN'T GO 50 FT WITHOUT IT DOING THE SAME THING, LOSE POWER, THE GAS PETAL DIDN'T DO ANYTHING, AND THE ENGINE WAS MISSING SO BAD IT ALMOST WOULD DIE. MY CAR IS AT THE SHOP NOW, I AM WAITING ON THE COST TO HAVE MY ABOUT 2 YEAR OLD CAR FIXED SO I CAN DRIVE IT AGAIN. I HAVE READ 23 PAGES OF COMPLAINS ON THIS SITE, MORE THAN HALF IS THE SAME ISSUE I HAD WITH MY CAR. I BELIEVE FORD NEEDS TO DO A RECALL FOR THIS THROTTLING ISSUE AND FIX THE PROBLEM, AND STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, IT SEEMS THERE ARE ALOT OF FORD VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE THAT IS COSTING ALOT OF MONEY TO HAVE REPAIRED.. AT A STOP LIGHT, ACCELERATING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AT APPROX. 30 MPH, THE CAR JERKED AND LOST SPEED. PUT GAS PEDAL DOWN TO FLOOR. THE CAR WAS NEVER ABLE TO GO OVER 10 MPH. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD TODAY IT WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND DUE TO BACK ORDER ON THE PART IT WOULD TAKE UP TO 2-3 WEEKS TO RECEIVE A PART. THIS EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY BROTHER'S 2009 FORD ESCAPE. SEEMS IF THIS IS RECURRENT ISSUE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED SEEING AS THE POTENTIAL DANGER TO THE DRIVER AND OTHER'S ON THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE UNTIL AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE BODY. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE WRENCH SYMBOL AND ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED; THEN THE ENGINE STALLED. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN A FEW MOMENTS; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND WHEN I ACCELERATED TO PULL A SMALL INCLINE AND THERE WAS A LOUD POP, A REAL HARD JERK AND I HAD NO GEARS AT ALL. THE WRENCH INDICATOR CAME ON, I TURNED MY EMERGENCY FLASHER ON, SHUT ME ENGINE OFF. THANKS GOODNESS I WAS IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND THE SPEED WAS REDUCED OR ELSE I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I RESTARTED MY ENGINE AND FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET IT IN LOW TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE NEAREST WIDE SPOT TO GET OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE 4-LANE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER IN MY AREA AND THEY KEPT IT 5 DAYS AND I WAS NOTIFIED ON TUESDAY, THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS STILL DOING THE EXACT SAME THING, SHIFTS HARD, HESITATES TO SHIFT, REVS UP TO 5000 - 5500 RPM'S BUT WON'T DO OVER 20 MPH. IT JERKS AND MAKE SOME TERRIBLE NOISES. ALSO YESTERDAY WHILE TRYING TO PULL A HILL NEAR MY HOME, IT WOULD NOT PULL IT AND I HAD A VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME AND ALL I COULD DO WAS PRAY THAT HE WOULDN'T HIT ME. I HAD TO PULL OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT MY ENGINE OFF IN ORDER TO IT TO TAKE OFF AND PULL AGAIN. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO HAVE THEM IN ON THE HIGHWAY, IT ISN'T SAFE FOR ANYONE TO BE ON THE HIGHWAY IN. I HAVE DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL ON MINE. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THE VEHICLES AND FIX THEM BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN KILLED. ANY ASSISTANCE THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE IN THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR
VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. COASTED VEHICLE TO A STOP AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD AS IT STALLED TWO MORE TIMES TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THEY SCANNED AND GAVE US CODE P2111 TECH SAID THAT WE NEEDED A THROTTLE BOTTLE AND IT WAS ON A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER. TECH ALSO SAID THERE WERE 3 OTHER VEHICLES ON THE LOT WAITING FOR THE SAME PART. TRIED TO ORDER PART AND THEY WANTED CASH UP FRONT, IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I COULD NOT GAS MY CAR. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND I NEARLY CAUSED TWO ACCIDENTS TRYING TO MANEUVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. I AN NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR FAR FROM HOME NOR ON A HIGHWAY AS IT CHOOSES TO REPAY THIS AT RANDOM. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH WHEN MY FORD ESCAPE COMPLETELY STALLED AND S SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I TRIED TO MOVE OUT OF TRAFFIC I WAS NEARLY HIT BY MULTIPLE VEHICLES COMING FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP ASSUMING THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. AFTER EXPLAINING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHAT HAD HAPPENED, BEFORE THEY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE, THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. APPARENTLY, THE PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY IS SO COMMON THEY CAN'T KEEP THE PARTS IN STOCK. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL OR SURGE FORWARD, USUALLY AT RATES OF SPEED EXCEEDING 40MPH. I WAS INFORMED THAT FORD DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS PART OF THE POWER TRAIN. $401.04 LATER I HAD MY VEHICLE BACK. AS I WAS PAYING THE SERVICE CASHIER INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS THE 12TH THAT HAD FIXED THAT WEEK (IT WAS ONLY WEDNESDAY) AND TO HOLD ONTO MY RECEIPT BECAUSE IT REALLY SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. *TR
I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A ROAD WITH A 45 MPH LIMIT. I JUST INITIATED THE TURN WHEN IT FELT LIKE I LOST ALL POWER & WAS BARELY COASTING. I WAITED 'TIL THE ROAD WAS CLEAR TO TURN, BUT NOW THERE WERE 2 CARS BEARING DOWN ON ME SOUNDING THEIR HORNS & WITH SQUEALING TIRES AS THEY ATTEMPTED TO AVOID HITTING ME. I BARELY MADE IT OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. AT WHAT FELT LIKE ONE MPH, I DROVE ONTO THE SHOULDER, TURNED OFF THE CAR & GATHERED MY WITS AS I WAS TERRIFIED. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON & IT WAS THE SAME, BUT NOTICED A WRENCH ON THE DISPLAY. TURNED MY CAR OFF & CALLED MY MECHANIC FOR A TOW. WHILE WAITING, TRIED TURNING THE CAR ON AGAIN & IT WORKED. DROVE TO THE MECHANIC & HE SAID IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY PROBLEM, BUT NO CODE HAD BEEN SET IN THE COMPUTER. HE CALLED SCHAUMBURG FORD & THEY SAID UNLESS A CODE WAS SET, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE THE CAR 'TIL IT FAILED AGAIN & SET THE CODE--LIKE DRIVING A TIME BOMB! THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO HOPKINS FORD WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR 6/30/12 & THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILED THE TEST, SO IT WOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY, BUT THAT IT WOULD BE AT LEAST JULY BEFORE THEY COULD GET THE PART BECAUSE SO MANY HAVE FAILED & ARE ON ORDER. I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE THE CAR 'TIL THEN. LATER THAT DAY THEY CONTACTED ME & SAID FORD ADVISED THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY & THE SERVICE PERSON ESTIMATED THE REPAIR AT OVER $500. WITH THIS MANY FAILED THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLIES, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A RECALL ITEM. SURE HOPE I DON'T GET KILLED OR KILL SOMEBODY WHILE I WAIT FOR THE PART. *TR
I WAS TAKING MY FATHER TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM WHEN MY VEHICLE STARED TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT WOULDN'T MOVE. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE, AND STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. SAME THING HAPPENED AND I HAD TO COAST TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT TO AVOID GETTING INTO A WRECK. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD, AFTER HAVING IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND OF COURSE WAS NOT COVERED AS THE WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART AND HAD TO ORDER IT. IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR EIGHT DAYS WAITING FOR THE PART SO IT COULD BE FIXED. I HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE BECAUSE I COULDN'T DRIVE THE ESCAPE AND THAT COST A FORTUNE NOT TO MENTION THE $406 I PAID TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY REPLACED. EVER SINCE THE REPLACEMENT MY ESCAPE HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME. I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE A RECALL AND I WOULD BE REIMBURSED, BUT OF COURSE THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY CRG G5 AT 45MPH THE ENGINE STALLED, WITH NO MORE POWER SUPPLIED TO THE CAR AND IT ROLLED TO A FULL STOP. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE DID NOT OPERATE TO ACCELERATE OR DRIVE THE CAR ANY MORE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED AWAY. THE CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT AND 'WRENCH' LIGHT ARE ON, THE ASSOCIATED DTC CODE IS P2112. *TR
A FEW WEEKS AGO, MY ESCAPE WOULD SLOW DOWN AND OR STOP INTERMITTENTLY FOR NOW REASON. THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME 2 TIMES IN ONE WEEK AND BY TWO WEEK FROM THE FIRST DATE OF OCCURRENCE. IT HAD STARTED TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN AND OCCURRING THE LAST TIME 3 TIMES THAT DAY. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP (JACK MADDEN FORD) IN NORWOOD, MA. I WAS OUTSIDE OF MY WARRANTY SO I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ORIGINALLY BUT THEN I WAS CALLED LATER THAT DAY AND TOLD THAT I HAD A FAULTY THROTTLE DRIVE AND THAT IT WOULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE. I WAS NOT TOLD WHY IT WOULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE BUT THAT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY, VEHICLE SUDDENLY GOES INTO A LIMP MODE AND THE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. VEHICLE IS ABLE TO TRAVEL PERHAPS 30 SECONDS TO ONE MINUTE FURTHER UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND SEEMED TO BE FORCED DECELERATION. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AFTER A FEW SECONDS AND THE WARNING LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED AND I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED TO MY DESTINATION. PER MANUAL, THE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT IS FOR THROTTLE/POWER TRAIN AND ILLUMINATES WHEN A POWER TRAIN FAULT HAS BEEN DETECTED. HAVE APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER SERVICE IN TWO DAYS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON RT. 80 IN NJ AT ABOUT 70 MPH IN THE FAST LANE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS NO POWER. I WOULD HIT THE GAS AND NOTHING. FORTUNATELY, MY STEERING AND BRAKING WAS NOT AFFECTED AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER AND TURN THE TRUCK OFF. BEFORE THAT, I NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS LIT ON THE DASHBOARD. I SAT FOR A MINUTE WHILE I LOOKED IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL TO SEE WHAT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS FOR AND IT SAID THROTTLE. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND AFTER A BRIEF HESITATION, IT TURNED OVER. I PULSED THE GAS TO MAKE SURE IT WAS WORKING, THEN SLOWLY MERGED BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY WERE VERY NICE AND ASKED ME TO BRING IT IN ASAP. SINCE I WAS ALMOST AT WORK, I SAID I'D CALL HIM BACK AND WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP NEAR MY OFFICE. THERE I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A "KNOWN ISSUE" AND EVEN IF IT WAS WHAT HE "THOUGHT" IT WAS, HE WAS NASTY AND SAID "THERE AREN'T ANY PARTS AVAILABLE ANYWAY..." I ASKED HIM IF THE TRUCK WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND HE HESITATED AND SAID "YEAH...IT SHOULD BE AND THAT IT IS A "SPORADIC" ISSUE." I LEFT THAT DEALERSHIP AND DROVE TO MY OFFICE. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP BACK AND TOLD THEM THIS. THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY (SATURDAY) AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ME. THIS DEALERSHIP (MAGARINO IN SUSSEX, NJ) IS AMAZING! THEY ARE HELPFUL, TRULY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND MADE SURE THAT MY TRUCK WAS SAFE BEFORE I LEFT. EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, THEY STILL MADE THE TIME TO GET ME IN! THEY DID HAVE THE PART IN STOCK, RAN ALL THE NECESSARY TESTS, REPLACED THE PART AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SO THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE OK. $400 LATER (PART NOT UNDER WARRANTY), I WAS HEADING HOME. I HOPE THIS HELPS THE POSSIBLE RECALL INVESTIGATION SO THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS TO GO THROUGH THE TERRIFYING AND HOPELESS FEELING THAT I HAD THIS PAST FRIDAY. *TR
VEHICLE LOST PROPULSION AT ABOUT 30-35 MPH AND DRIVER WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET IT OFF MAIN ROAD. A VEHICLE BEHIND IT HAD TO BRAKE TO AVOID REAR-END COLLISION. WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD AND HAD TO BE TOWED. SUBSEQUENTLY VEHICLE FUNCTIONED AGAIN, BUT ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED -- CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN GEARS. SUBSEQUENTLY A FORD DEALER REPAIR DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. *TR
I HAVE ALREADY FILED ONE COMPLAINT REGARDING THE THROTTLE BODY ON MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE IT FIXED IN JULY AND 3 WEEKS AFTER I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED IT STARTED MESSING UP AGAIN. THE THROTTLE BODY HASN'T GONE OUT AGAIN BUT IT BOGS DOWN LIKE IT IS GOING TO SHUT OFF AT ANY GIVEN SECOND. AND ALSO WITH THE PART MALFUNCTIONING IT WREAKS HAVOC ON MY GAS MILEAGE. BEFORE THE PART MESSED UP AND WAS REPLACED I WAS AVERAGE ABOUT 370 MILES ON A TANK OF GAS AND NOW I AM ONLY GETTING ABOUT 266. THE PART IN UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY WON'T REPLACE IT UNTIL IT GOES COMPLETELY OUT. IT ONLY HAS A 12 MONTH OR 12000 MILE WARRANTY ON IT AND I AM AFRAID THAT IT IS GOING TO GO OUT AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND I WILL BE LEFT FOOTING THE BILL AGAIN. ALSO WHEN IT BOGS DOWN THE SCENT OF RAW GAS IS OVERWHELMING AS IT FILLS THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. I AM A MOTHER OF 2 AND THIS IS MY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL GO OUT AND I WILL BE HIT AND THE GAS FUMES ISN'T GOOD FOR THEM TO BE INHALING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD MOTOR COMPANY WON'T REPLACE THEM SINCE THEY ARE VERY AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER. IT ALSO STARTED BUCKING AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO DRIVE IT INTO A GAS STATION. VEHICLE CONTINUALLY HAS A DECREASE IN POWER. AFTER STEPPING ON GAS PEDAL STARTS TO "CHUG" ALONG SLOWLY EVENTUALLY SPEEDS BACK UP AND ENGAGES TO NORMAL SPEED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY, MY CAR STARTED TO FEEL LIKE I HAD LET OFF THE GAS. WHEN I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENED. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND IT WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND GOING ABOUT 5MPH. A LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WAS GONE AND THE CAR RAN FINE. I CONTINUED HOME AND HAD TO TURN LEFT INTO MY SUBDIVISION. AS I SLOWED DOWN TO TURN, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND I HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND NOT COVERED UNDER MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY OR ANY WARRANTY. *TR
VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP-HOME MODE WHILE UNDER LIGHT ACCELERATION. HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, THE "MONKEY WRENCH" LIGHT TURNED ON AND I NO LONGER HAD ANY THROTTLE. I STILL HAD STEERING CONTROL AND BRAKES. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR SPUTTERED AND I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN DRIVE. AS I BEGAN PICKING UP SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY, I AGAIN LOST ALL THROTTLE CONTROL AND HAD NO POWER WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD A FEW MILES TO GET HOME, AND THIS OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES. I WAS DRIVING 70MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND I LOST ALL POWER AND MY WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PUT IT IN PARK AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND LIGHT WENT OFF. TODAY I COULD FEEL IT LOSING POWER I WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME IF I DIDN'T PAY THE $85 TO PUT ON COMPUTER. I TOLD THEM MY CAR HAD DONE THE EXACT SAME THING THAT OTHERS HAD REPORTED AND IT WAS THEIR THROTTLE BODY. ON MY WAY TO WORK I COULD FEEL IS LUGGING BUT SO FAR TODAY IT HASN'T STOPPED. DRIVING THE CAR WE START TO EXCEL AND THE CAR SHUTS DOWN DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY NOT FUNCTIONING RIGHT. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. MY CAR SHIFTED QUICKLY INTO A LOW GEAR AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING A POWERTRAIN FAILURE. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER OFF THE FREEWAY AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN. IT WOULD START UP AGAIN, AND WE LIMPED INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS ABOUT 1/4 MILE AWAY. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE "THROTTLE BODY" AND INDICATED I WAS THE "THIRD ONE THIS WEEK". *TR
I AM A SINGLE FEMALE AND KEEP MY VEHICLE MAINTENANCE UP TO DATE. I DO NOT HAVE ANYONE TO CALL ON TO HELP IN TIMES OF CAR TROUBLE. THE ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER AND START TO 'COAST' TO A STOP AT VARYING SPEEDS, INCLUDING ON AN INTERSTATE. I HAD TO PULL THE CAR OVER, TURN IT OFF, AND RESTART. THE RESTART WAS ALWAYS TROUBLESOME. ONCE THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT THE CAR, I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 2 WEEKS FOR A REPLACEMENT PART. I HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE FOR 2 WEEKS, PUTTING MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGER IN DANGER OF BEING INVOLVED IN AND CAUSING A MAJOR CAR ACCIDENT. I CALLED THE DEALER 2 WEEKS LATER; THE DEALER DID NOT CONTACT ME. I PICKED UP THE PART AND HAD IT INSTALLED. I ALSO PURCHASED A CABIN AIR FILTER IN ORDER TO HAVE THAT REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME. TO MY SURPRISE, THE CAR DID NOT EVEN HAVE A CABIN AIR FILTER INSTALLED WHEN I PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD THAT FILTER REPLACED. I HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES AND CURRENTLY TAKE 2 SHOTS. I WAS NOT HAPPY TO DISCOVER THE AIR ENTERING MY CAR WAS HELPING TO CONTRIBUTE TO MY PROBLEMS WITH MY ALLERGIES. I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD. THE CAR CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP WITHOUT WARNING, IT SEEMS TO HAVE A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WESTBOUND ON I-10 TOWARDS HOUSTON, TX, AS I CAME UPON RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND LET OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS AT AN EXIT AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND COAST TO A STOP AT A CONVENIENCE STORE ON THE SERVICE ROAD. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO GET BACK ON I-10 TO CONTINUE TO MY DESTINATION. AS SOON AS I RAN INTO TRAFFIC AGAIN AND LET OFF OF THE GAS PETAL, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND RE-START THE VEHICLE WHILE I WAS STILL COASTING. THIS CONTINUED FOR THE NEXT 10 MILES OR SO AS I ATTEMPTED TO GET TO THE HOTEL I WAS STAYING AT, WITH THE ENGINE STALLING WHENEVER I RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR, APPROXIMATELY 10 - 12 MORE TIMES. AS I WAS STUCK IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN A STRANGE CITY, THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD WAS TO DRIVE WITH 2 FEET; 1 ON THE ACCELERATOR PETAL AND 1 ON THE BRAKE PETAL. I WOULD HAVE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE GAS PETAL TO INCREASE RPMS IN ORDER TO KEEP THE ENGINE FROM STALLING. FORTUNATELY IT DID RESTART EVERY TIME AND I MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT GETTING IN A WRECK. THE CAR WAS DROPPED OFF AT JOE MYERS FORD IN HOUSTON, TX, ON 6/6/13 @ 7:00AM TO BE CHECKED. UPON INSPECTION I WAS TOLD THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND WON'T BE IN FOR 3 WEEKS. I'M 1,500 MILES OUT OF THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, SO THEY CALLED MY EXTENDED WARRANT COMPANY TO ARRANGE FOR A RENTAL SO I CAN DRIVE BACK HOME TO NEW ORLEANS, LA. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL ONLY PAY FOR 5 DAYS OF THE RENTAL, SO I AM AWAITING A CALL BACK FROM FORD TO SEE HOW TO PROCEED WITH BOTH THE RENTAL UNTIL MY VEHICLE IS REPAIRED AND THE TIMING OF HOW LONG THIS REPAIR WILL TAKE. *TR

RESTARTED ENGINE APPEARED TO RAN FINE. STARTED DOWN THE ROAD GOT ABOUT 5 MILES AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND IT WOULD BE 2 OR MORE WEEKS TO GET THE PART IF WE ARE LUCKILY. THEY OFFERED NO LOANER CAR AND TOLD ME I COULD RENT A CAR. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 65-70 MPH AND ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. I HAVE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PUT IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING WHEN THIS HAPPENS BUT ONLY AT A IDLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS. THE FORD SERVICE DEPT TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT US PAYING IN FULL FOR THE REPAIR. THE WRENCH LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON. WE WERE TOLD THE ACTUATOR WAS STUCK OPEN. *TR
FIRST ISSUE IS THAT THE BACK BACK DOOR WONT OPEN & THERE IS NO KEYHOLE TO UNLOCK IT EITHER. SECOND ISSUE IS THAT WHEN IT RAINS HEAVY WATER IS COMING THROUGH FROM THE OUTSIDE INTO ALL MY DOORS & IT STAYS THERE BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLUG TO LET THE WATER OUT. THE CHEAPEST OPTION WAS TO DRILL HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF EACH DOOR TO LET THE WATER OUT.

DEALER SAYS THE ISSUE IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND MAY TAKE 6-8 WEEKS TO REPAIR. THIS HAPPENED ANOTHER TIME WITH, PRETTY MUCH, THE SAME STORY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD/STUCK THROTTLE BODY. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS AND APPARENTLY VERY LITTLE INTEREST. THEY REST CODE AND TELL ME FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT IN THE THROTTLE BODY BUT WON'T FIX IT FOR FREE. I AM IN FACT TYPING THIS COMPLAINT IN THE SERVICE WAITING AREA. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SURGES FORWARD WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC AND HAD ALL POWER DROP OUT AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. IT'S INSANE FORD HASN'T RECALLED THIS PART AND REPAIRED IT. NO ETA AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE QUOTED $600. SPENDING $53 PER DAY FOR A RENTAL CAR. I GOOGLED THROTTLE BODY SAW WHERE ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS WERE POSTED THOUGHT I WOULD ADD MINE. *TR

BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER, NO CODES BUT A TSB 12-6-12 AND 11-9-9 COVERED BOTH AND THE PCM WAS REPROGRAMMED. IT STILL SHIFTED HARD BUT I GOT USED TO IT. IT STARTED GETTING REALLY BAD AGAIN IN MAY 2013. NO CODES, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND I CHECKED THE SYSTEM INFORMATION AND NOTHING WAS FLAGGED. IT WOULD CHUG AND THEN DIE WHILE IDLING. AT A STOPLIGHT ON A 55 MPH HIGHWAY, IT STALLED. ENGINE STARTED UP BUT AS SOON AS IT WAS PUT INTO DRIVE IT WOULD MAKE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND STALL. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY WARNING. I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION AND THERE WAS NO WHERE SAFE TO PUSH THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE. I WAITED 30 TERRIFIED MINUTES FOR THE TOW TRUCK HOPING NO ONE WOULD SLAM INTO ME. TOWED IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALER WHERE THEY HAD TO WRITE TO THE HOTLINE TO CHECK SINCE IT WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. FIRST TOLD IT WAS A VALVE BODY OR TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE. METAL WAS FOUND IN THE VALVE BODY AND SOLENOID SCREENS AND THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AND BECAUSE IT HAD 71,000 MILES IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
DRIVING DOWN I-55 IN ST. LOUIS, MY CAR LOST POWER. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE THROTTLE WAS INOPERATIVE. TURNED THE KEY OFF, WAITED A FEW SECONDS, AND STARTED THE CAR. IT RAN FINE, LIKE REBOOTING A COMPUTER. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE ON SIDE STREETS AND IT HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME BEFORE I GOT HOME ON I-55. WENT TO THE DEALER WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. $98 FOR DIAGNOSIS, THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. BACK ORDER FOR OVER 30 DAYS, SO THIS MUST BE A BIGGER PROBLEM. THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND FUEL SYSTEM, ANOTHER $140, WHICH THEY SAID WOULD HELP UNTIL THE PART CAME IN. CAR JUST OUT OF WARRANTY 2700 MILES. KINDA SCARY TO LOSE POWER WHEN YOUR IN TRAFFIC. *TR
