WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT ABOUT 20-25 MPH, CAR JERKS LIKE TRANSMISSION IS TRYING TO SLIP FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR. HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR OVER TWO YEARS. MOST READINGS ON 'NET SUGGESTS SOFTWARE ISSUES BUT NOT MANY OWNERS HAVE FOUND SATISFACTION WITH THE UPDATES AND APPEAR TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM..
REPEATED INCIDENTS OF TWO SYMPTOMS: 1) POWER SURGES WHEN I'M HITTING THE GAS TO PULL OUT OR PASS SOMEONE AND CAR FEELS MOMENTARILY LIKE IT WILL JUMP FORWARD. 2) POWER FEELS LIKE IT WILL STALL AND THE CAR SORT OF JUST POWERS DOWN. UNTIL TODAY THAT WOULD JUST PASS AND THE CAR WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY. TODAY (AUG. 11) I HAD TO PULL OVER AS IT WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 20 MPH SUDDENLY. IT RESUMED NORMALLY AFTER I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IN A FEW MINUTES. *TR
FROM THE TIME WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, THE HORN WOULD SOUND WHEN WE HIT A BUMP. THEN IT BEGAN TO FAIL AND NOT SOUND AT ALL. I HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $500 TO REPAIR AND THERE HAD BEEN NO RECALL. WHEN WE PICKED UP OUR VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, THE HORN WOULD NOT SOUND AT ALL. IT HAS NOT SOUNDED SINCE. *TR
PROBLEM SEEMS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. I HAD THAT SERVICED AND IT WAS FINE. THEN I HEARD ABOUT THE " THROTTLE BODY " PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE WRENCH WARNING SYMBOL WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF BY THE CONTACT. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY UNTIL THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
WE WERE JUST PULLING OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. IT JERKED FORWARD AND THEN STOPPED. WE WERE STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY AND COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO FORWARD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TRIED AGAIN. THE CAR AGAIN JERKED FORWARD WENT A SHORT DISTANCE AND THEN SHUT DOWN AGAIN, ON THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY WE WERE ONLY A MILE OR SO FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT 5 TIMES AND WERE ABLE TO GET THE MILE TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED, A WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASH, SIGNALING A POWERTRAIN ISSUE AND TO GET TO THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. AFTER THE CAR WAS LOOKED AT BY THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND WOULD COST $400 TO REPAIR. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR FORD, AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOMETHING SO SERIOUS THAT IT CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR DEATH IS NOT BEING RECALLED. I GUESS FORD DOESN'T WANT THE COST TO REPAIR THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS AND OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF ITS CUSTOMERS OR THE LAWSUIT THAT WILL FOLLOW. FOR THIS REASON, I HAVE NOTIFIED ALL OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS NOT TO BUY ANOTHER FORD. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR CITIZENS AND MAKE A RECALL MANDATORY, NOT GIVE IN TO THE MIGHTY FORD COMPANY AND THEIR LACK OF CONCERN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,520. ...UPDATED 03/27/13 *BF UPDATED 3/28/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE ON HIS WAY TO THE DEALER, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A LURCHING MOTION FOUR TIMES. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AT THE TIME, SO HE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THREE WERE RECORDED ON THE BLACK BOX, WHICH REACHED ITS CAPACITY. THE LAST ONE, CAUSED THE WRENCH LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE AND IT REMAINED ON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. AS OF 03/22/13, THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE ENTERED A FOUR LANE DIVIDED ROAD WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC COMING TOWARD HIM. AS HE ENTERED THE FIRST WESTBOUND LANE, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A LURCHING MOTION, SLOWING DOWN HIS FORWARD MOVEMENT WITH TRAFFIC COMING CLOSER TO THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN WENT INTO NEUTRAL MODE AND HE WAS BALE TO COAST INTO THE LEFT TURN LANE, CONTINUE THROUGH THE TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROLLED INTERSECTION AND COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSECTING ROADWAY. HE NOTICED THE TAX SHOWED 2,000 RPM. HE CYCLED THE KEY AND THE ENGINE STARTED AND OPERATED NORMALLY.
VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AT IDLE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AT STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, OR ANY IDLE TIME CAR WOULD BUCK FORWARD LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. *TR
THE SUV STARTS SLOWING DOWN, LOSING POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. I PULLED OVER ,CUT SUV OFF WAIT ABOUT 15MIN AND START SUV BACK UP L WRENCH LIGHT IS NOT ON. NO INCIDENT AGAIN UNTIL MAY 30,2013 AND JUNE 1, 2013 . TOOK VEHICLE TO DARCARS ON JUNE 3,2013 , DEALER NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE INCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE DECELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE EMERGENCY LANE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY AFTER RESTARTING IT. THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED A VALVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. *TR
THREE TIMES WHILE TRAVELING AT 60+ MPH ON THE INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE LOST ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE AND A YELLOW WRENCH ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. TRYING TO NAVIGATE FROM THE LEFT LANE ACROSS 3 LANES OF HIGHSPEED RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY. *TR
CLOSING REAR LIFT GATE AFTER THE CAR REMAINED STATIONARY OVERNIGHT, THE WINDOW SHATTERED ONTO THE GROUND AND INTO THE TRUNK. LOW TEMPERATURE FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE WAS 19 DEG F. SUBSEQUENT CLEAN-UP EFFORTS REVEALED SCRATCHES TO CAR BODY AND RESULTED IN PERSONAL INJURY (LACERATIONS). FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR COST BASED ON VEHICLE MILEAGE, DESPITE EXPLICIT REFERENCE TO PE 11-016 AND TO FORD TECHNICAL SERVICES BULLETIN 10-22-10. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN SLEET AND SNOW AT 40 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO USE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID AND NOTHING WOULD COME OUT. THE CONTACT COULD NOT SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WHICH ALMOST RESULTED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SPRAY NOZZLE WAS CLOGGED WITH DEBRIS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,361.
I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AS I STRAIGHTEN OUT MY CAR FROM THE TURN MY CAR LOST POWER. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS BUT WASN'T GOING FORWARD AND THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING REALLY BAD. THE IRONIC THING IS I FELT A TUG HERE AND THERE BEFORE BUT I THOUGHT I WAS BEING PARANOID. I DON'T THINK I WAS!!! THANK GOODNESS I HAD TURNED OUT OF TRAFFIC. I DIDN'T WANT TO TURN IT ON AGAIN I REMEMBERED I HAD A TOW CARD FROM WHEN I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE. IF THIS IS SOME DEFECT I NEED TO KNOW. I HAD MY LAST VEHICLE FOR 11 YEARS AND NEVER DID SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN. I BOUGHT A NEW CAR SO THAT I DON'T GET STRANDED AND I DID GET STRANDED. I HAD IT TOWED TO MAXWELL FORD AFTER THEY TESTED IT TODAY I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY MY SON WHILE HE IS AT COLLEGE. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD APPROXIMATELY 8 INSTANCES IN THE PAST 6-9 MONTHS (7 OF THOSE IN THE PAST MONTH DURING A ONE WEEK TIME PERIOD) IN WHICH THE VEHICLE HAS LOST A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF POWER AND SPEED WHICH HAS REQUIRED HIM TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY FOR HIS SAFETY. ONCE OFF THE HIGHWAY, HE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON WHICH CLEARED THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME OF THESE ISSUES, THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES AND WAS 2 1/4 YEARS OLD. HE SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, SEVERAL DAYS AFTER THE WEEK IN WHICH HE HAD 7 SEPARATE INCIDENTS, AND THE FORD DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT BODY OF KNOWLEDGE THAT INDICATES FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ON LATE-MODEL ESCAPES. FORD SHOULD, AT A MINIMUM, ACKNOWLEDGE THIS SAFETY CONCERN, AND ALSO MAKE REPAIRS AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER, TO MITIGATE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
IT WAS ABOUT 30 DEGREES AND MY 13 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WENT TO PUT A ITEM IN MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY. UPON CLOSING THE REAR LIFT GATE THE GLASS SHATTERED INTO TINY PIECES. THIS CAUSED SCRATCHES AND OTHER BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WHEN THE HYDRAULIC ARMS AND WIPER BLADE ASSEMBLY GAVE WAY WHEN THE GLASS SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE IS 2 YEARS OLD AND UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND WAS TOLD TO TURN IT INTO MY INSURANCE. NO OTHER HELP WAS OFFERED!!! MIND YOU ITS 30 DEGREES OUT AND I HAVE 2 YOUNG CHILDREN AND LIVE IN A RURAL AREA. I DID AS I WAS TOLD AND REPORTED TO MY INSURANCE CO. THEY TRIED TO HOOK ME UP WITH SEVERAL GLASS PLACES WITH NO LUCK. THE CLOSEST WAS 35 MILES AWAY AND SAID IT WOULD BE ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO GET THE GLASS BECAUSE ITS NOT SOMETHING THEY HAVE IN STOCK. I HAD TO DRIVE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WITH NO REAR WINDOW IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER WITH TWO KIDS JUST TO GET IT COVERED WITH PLASTIC SO I COULD HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE. AM I WRONG TO THINK FORD COULD HAVE DONE MORE TO HELP???? *TR
AFTER UNLOADING ITEMS FROM REAR CARGO AREA, TAILGATE WAS CLOSED, AND THE REAR TAILGATE WINDOW EXPLODED IN MY FACE SPONTANEOUSLY. IT SEEMED AS IF THE RECIPROCATING ARMS PERHAPS DID NOT COLLAPSE COMPLETELY AND WENT THROUGH THE WINDOW. AN INDIVIDUAL WHO ASSISTED IN CLEANING UP THE DEBRIS WAS CUT BY THE GLASS. *TR
TURNED ONTO MY STREET ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN COULDN'T GIVE THE CAR ANY GAS. NOTICE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. COASTED INTO DRIVEWAY TURNED CAR OFF-WAITED A FEW AND TURNED BACK ON. NO LIGHT AND CAR SEEMED FINE. NEXT DAY TOOK CAR OUT AND JUST AFTER GETTING ON HIGHWAY CAR DID THE SAME THING THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. TURNED OFF AND ON AND WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF BUT ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. DROVE DIRECTLY TO DEALERSHIP. WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY GOT STUCK AND WAS BEING REPLACED. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON BUSY ROADS! *TR
THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHERE MY CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE DURING COLD WEATHER MONTHS. JANUARY 4, 2013 WAS WHEN I NEARLY GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. ONE MORNING WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, I PULLED OUT ONTO A MAIN ROAD AND MY CAR'S ACCELERATION DRASTICALLY SLOWED DOWN (TO ABOUT 5-10 MPH ON A 40MPH ROAD). THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME ALMOST SLAMMED RIGHT INTO ME BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON (AND WHY WOULD THEY BE? I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS PETAL TRYING TO MAKE IT GO!) THE FACT THAT FORD DOESN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM IS SCARY! I AM HONESTLY CONCERNED THAT ONE DAY THIS WILL CAUSE ME TO GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
THE ENGINE SURGES AND STALLS AT THE MOST UNUSUAL MOMENTS. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO REASON FOR THE SURGE AND STALLING, BUT CAN BECOME VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE LEARNED TO LEAVE EXTRA EXTRA ROOM IN CASE OF SURGING AND I ALSO HAVE ADOPTED THE POLICY OF WHEN MAKING DECISIONS TO ENTER TRAFFIC, I MUST ACCOUNT FOR "IN CASE THE CAR STALLS, WILL I DIE". 2011 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED. *TR
CAR WOULD VIOLENTLY BUCK WHILE LOOSING POWER. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THEN DISAPPEARED. SEAMS TO BE A RANDOM GHOST THAT VISITS EVERY 2 WEEKS. HAD MAP SENSOR REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY THEN 2 WKS LATER HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME PAID FOR THROTTLE BODY. 2 WKS WENT BY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME DIDN'T. GO TO DEALER. NOT SURE BUT I THINK IT MIGHT BE THROTTLE BODY AGAIN IF IT IS INFACT THE PROBLEM. CAR SUCKS. SAME PROBLEM OVER AND OVER. *TR
WHEN THE WEATHER STARTED GETTING COLDER, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED OUT HARD TO SHIFT. I TRAVEL FOR WORK AND WHEN I AM IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IT IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE CAR TO SHIFT OUT. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY SHIFT, IT IS A HARD SHIFT AND HARD TO CONTROL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 55MPH GOING EAST ON 301. I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN TO TURN LEFT ONTO 305, CROSSING OVER 301 WEST. AFTER STOPPING, I ACCELERATED TO CROSS OVER 301 WEST TO TURN ONTO 305 AND THE ENGINE DIED. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO DRIFT ACROSS THE ROAD AND MADE IT SAFELY ONTO THE SHOULDER OF 301. IF I DIDN'T I WOULD HAVE BEEN T-BONED BY CARS TRAVELING <55+MPH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTART AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,690. UPDATED 01/05/13*LJ UPDATED 02/11/2013*JS
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX 55 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR I SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING, LIGHT ETC, BEGAN TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT I DID NOT HAVE ANY FORWARD POWER. I PULLED OVER, TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I STARTED IT BACK UP, DROVE DOWN THE BERM AT ABOUT 15-20 AND IT DID IT AGAIN; I STOPPED TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND MANAGED TO GET OFF THE INTERESTATE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY; THIS WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT CAME ON THE VEHICLE. ABOUT $382.00 LATER MY CAR SEEMS TO BE DOING OKAY. MY POINT.....THIS IS DANGEROUS, EXTREMELY DANGEROUS - LUCKILY I DIDN'T HAVE A TRACTOR TRAILER BEARING DOWN ON ME....HOWEVER, THERE WERE SEVERAL HORNS AND ABRUPT STOPS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
I FILLED MY GAS TANK AT A HOLIDAY GAS STATION/STORE IN ESCANABA, MI ABOUT 6 P.M., NOVEMBER 21 WHILE TRAVELING. I FILLED THE TANK, LOCKED THE VEHICLE, AND WENT INTO THE STORE FOR A SNACK. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, AN EMPLOYEE WAS SWEEPING UP GLASS FROM MY BACK WINDOW WHICH SHE HEARD EXPLODE. THE WINDOW WAS COMPLETELY GONE. THERE WAS NOTHING AGAINST THE BACK WINDOW OR THE HATCH BACK THAT WOULD CAUSE STRESS. FISHING EQUIPMENT WAS LYING FLAT ON THE FLOOR. I DROVE 200 MILES HOME WITH NO WINDOW. BESIDES THE EMPLOYEE WITNESS, I FILED A POLICE REPORT WITH THE ESCANABA POLICE. I CONTACTED A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE PICTURES. I SENT DOCUMENTATION ALONG WITH THE PICTURES TO THE DEALERSHIP. THAT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR FORD. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE BODY REPAIR MANAGER TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO FORD WHO CAME BACK DENYING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE ON THE GLASS "BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE PROVEN THAT THIS WAS A FORD GLASS DEFECT. I DROVE 200 MILES ROUND TRIP WASTING AN AFTERNOON OF MY TIME. I HAVE CONTACT AND TALKED WITH FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS A HALF DOZEN TIME. I ASKED THE WITNESS TO CALL FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS TO VERIFY THAT I WAS NOT EVEN IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE GLASS EXPLOSION. GLASS FEW FROM 10 TO 15 FEET IN SMALL, DEADLY PIECES. LUCKILY, I OR SOMEONE ELSE WAS NOT STANDING BEHIND THE CAR. I HAVE NOT OPENED THE BACK WINDOW FOR MONTHS FINDING IT EASIER TO REMOVE ITEM BY LIFTING THE HATCHBACK DOOR. IN CONTACTING FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS, I WAS TOLD THAT ONCE A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE, IT COULD NOT BE REVERSED. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE IN AUTHORITY AND WAS TOLD THAT ONCE A DECISION WAS MADE BY FORD, IT COULD NOT BE REVERSED AND WAS GIVEN AN ADDRESS TO WRITE MY COMPLAINT. *TR
WHILE PULLING ONTO HIGHWAY ONRAMP THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK VIOLENTLY AND SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WAS A BUSY TRAFFIC TIME AND THE SUDDEN DECELERATION OF MY VEHICLE CAUSED OTHERS TO HAVE TO SUDDENLY BRAKE TO AVOID A COLLISION. PULLED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. RESTARTED AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE FIXED. BEGAN DRIVING VEHICLE TO DEALER WITH HAZARD LIGHTS AND PROBLEM OCCURRED ABOUT 4 MORE TIMES. DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. IT WAS A SCARY INCIDENT AS WE WERE JUST SECONDS AWAY FROM JOINING HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
2011 FORD ESCAPE ENGINE STALLS AT RANDOM TIMES: I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A FORD CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2012. IN NOVEMBER THE STALLING ISSUE STARTED. IT'S HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES NOW. THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF AND GOES INTO SOME TYPE OF IDLE MODE AND A LITTLE ORANGE WRENCH APPEARS ON THE DASH. TWO TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE AND AGAIN ONE MORNING COMING INTO WORK. WHEN IT STALLED ON THE FREEWAY I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND HAD TO PULL OFF INTO THE GRASS -- HIT SOMETHING AND BLEW A FRONT TIRE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER CHANGING THE FRONT TIRE IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP BUT ONLY MADE IT 45 MINUTES BEFORE STALLING AGAIN (THIS TIME AT 45 MPH AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD). HAD SAME STALLING ISSUE ON THE WAY TO WORK BUT AT A LOWER SPEED. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE LOST POWER AND DIED. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN TURNED IT ON AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED FOR ANOTHER 5-6 MILES, THEN THE ISSUE REPEATED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON, HOWEVER. FINALLY WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE MY TRIP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK LATER, WITH THE SAME OUTCOME AS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. SCHEDULED A REPAIR FOR 11/14/12 AT WHICH TIME I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A DEFAULT CODE P1450. CANNISTER WAS FULL OF FUEL. EVAPORATOR CANISTER, PIPE AND VALVE WERE REPLACED. TOTAL FOR THE REPAIR $557.16 PLUS SALES TAX BECAUSE VEHICLE MILEAGE EXCEEDED 36,000 WARRANTY CEILING. THEN ON MAY 16, 2013, WHILE ON VACATION, VEHICLE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS - ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, VEHICLE LOST POWER AND DIED... PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF VEHICLE, TURNED IT BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT TOWN WITH A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RUN ON THE VEHICLE. THIS TIME THE CODES WERE P0685 AND P2112, WHICH REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY WHICH COST ANOTHER $314.18 PLUS SALES TAX. I HAVE SINCE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD STATING THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS NOW BEING COVERED UNDER THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03, BUT WONDER WHY THERE IS NOT SIMILAR COVERAGE FOR THE EVAPORATOR CANNISTER ISSUE. *TR
WHILE CRUISING AT CONSTANT SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE, THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. FIRST REACTION WAS TO PRESS ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE ONLY BY LUCK WE WERE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WERE ABLE TO COAST TO A SAFE STOP. AFTER STOPPING, THE CAR WAS PLACED IN PARK AND THE ENGINE REMAINED ON BUT IDLED VERY ROUGH. THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CLEARED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL APPEARED TO WORK AGAIN SO WE TRIED TO DRIVE ON. A SHORT DISTANCE LATER THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE SAME THING WITH THE GAS PEDAL. AT THAT POINT WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND TRANSPORTED THE CAR TO A LOCAL FORD REPAIR SHOP. THE FORD SHOP CLAIMED THERE WERE NO CODES STORED AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK AND SAID MAYBE WE RAN THROUGH SOME WATER AND SENT US ON OUR WAY. TWO DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN UNDER IDENTICAL CONDITIONS. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT TO A DIFFERENT FORD SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY ALSO STATED THERE WERE NO CODES BUT APPARENTLY OUR WORD WAS GOOD ENOUGH THIS TIME. THE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR COMMENTED THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE FREQUENTLY. I ALSO WAS DISCUSSING THIS WITH A COWORKER AND FOUND OUT THEY HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN ON THEIR 2011 ESCAPE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OR DESIGN OF THIS PART OR PROGRAMMING. IF FORD DOESN'T ADDRESS THIS SOON, THERE WILL BE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS IF THERE HASN'T BEEN ALREADY. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE INTERSECTION, I LOST ALL THROTTLE. I HAD NO POWER AT ALL, IT WANTED TO STALL AND I HAD NOWHERE TO PULL OVER FROM THE INSIDE LANE. 2011 FORD ESCAPE WAS BEING DRIVEN @ 55 MPH IN TRAFFIC & IT SUDDENLY LOST POWER. ORANGE WRENCH APPEARED, MOTOR RUNNING ROUGH. STEERED TO EMERGENCY LANE. TURNED OFF IGNITION, WAITED, RE-STARTED. I WENT ON TO MY MEETING THE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP NEAR WHERE I WORK. THEY SAID TO DRIVE IT THERE (IF POSSIBLE) NEXT TIME WITHOUT CUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. TWO DAYS LATER (LOCAL DEALERSHIP CLOSED) WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, RAINY NIGHT, COUNTY ROAD, NO "EMERGENCY LANE", WAS ABLE TO GET PULLED OVER (NOT ALWAYS AN OPTION ON A COUNTRY ROAD). DAUGHTER WAS WITH ME - FRIGHTENED HER. TURNED IT OFF, RESTARTED. NEXT DAY (SATURDAY) I TOOK IT TO LOCAL FORD DEALER. SAID NEED THE LIGHT ON, BUT WOULD SEE IF THE DIAGNOSTICS TOLD ANYTHING. BORROWED CAR FROM MY DAUGHTER. THIS WAS INCONVENIENCE TO ME AND HER. DEALER CALLED MONDAY, SAID IT CLEARS THE CODE EACH TIME THE CAR IS RE-STARTED. THEY KEPT MY VEHICLE OVERNIGHT. DID IT AGAIN WITH THE MECHANIC DRIVING. HE DROVE IT AT ABOUT 10-15 MPH TO THE DEALERSHIP. I GOT ONLINE AND THERE ARE MANY ISSUES INVOLVING THROTTLES. MANY RECALLS, BUT NOT ON MY MODEL. ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED IT WAS THE THROTTLE. THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT & IT SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY RECALLED. I DRIVE ABOUT 60 MILES A DAY ON THE INTERSTATE & I NEED MY VEHICLE TO BE DEPENDABLE. IF A SEMI TRUCK CAME UP BEHIND ME IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A WRECK, OR EVEN LOSS OF LIFE. I LOVE MY ESCAPE & HAVE BEEN A LOYAL FORD CUSTOMER. SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO ADMIT THERE'S A PROBLEM & MAKE THINGS RIGHT. FORD SHOULD RESOLVE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC WHO DID A COMPUTER CHECK AND INDICATED P-2011 AND P-2012 CODES. ALSO NOTED IN MY SEARCH WHERE MANY FOLKS THINK A RECALL IS IN ORDER........I COMPLETELY AGREE. THE PART IS FAULTY AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IN THE FUTURE IF IT IS IGNORED. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. FUEL ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN, OTHER STUCK CLOSED. I AM A NURSE MARKETER, SINGLE MOM I FOUR AND I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO. I DON'T HAVE THE 700.00 TO HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. NONETHELESS, I AM LUCKY I HAVEN'T BEEN KILLED YET ON THE INTERSTATE BY THIS PROBLEM. I'M HAVING TO BORROW A CR NOW. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED EXACTLY THE SAME A COUPLE OTHER TIMES. ALSO HAPPEN ONCE WHEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY. I WAS AT A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE CAR LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT. I WAS NEARLY T-BONED AT 5 MONTHS PREGNANT. DEALER WAS HAVING A HARD TIME FIGURING OUT WHAT WAS WRONG BUT FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL. *TR
8/18/12 WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH MY TRUCK SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN IN THE MIST OF TRAFFIC. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND NEEDED TO PULL OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. AFTER MUCH EFFORT I WAS ABLE TO DO SO. IT WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING THE ENGINE. IT STARTED UP OKAY AND I PULLED OUT AND STAYED IN THE RIGHT LANE. A FOURTH OF A MILE LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CARS WERE BLOWING THERE HORNS AND I ALMOST GOT HIT A COUPLE OF TIMES. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME IT SCARED HER SO BAD SHE BEGAN TO CRY. WE WERE A GOOD DISTANCE FROM HOME. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO OR WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE TRUCK. I'D ONLY HAD IT FOUR MONTHS. IF THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING, WHY HASN'T SOMETHING BEEN DONE? A RECALL MAYBE? WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH 8/16/2013, MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. I PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ON DASH WAS ON. I CALLED FORD BLOOMINGTON, THEY GAVE ME ROADSIDE ASSIST # AND HAD ME CALL THEM TO SEND A TOW TRUCK TO BRING ME AND MY VEHICLE TO FORD FOR CHECK UP. IT WAS READY LATER THAT DAY, WAS TOLD THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED PCM AND UPDATED CALIBRATION, THEY CHANGED AIR FILTER AND TOLD ME I WAS "GOOD TO GO" I PAID $35.00 FOR THAT. THE VERY NEXT FRIDAY, I WAS DRIVING HOME (AT 60 MPH) AND THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN AND I PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. LUCKILY THE ENGINE DID RESTART AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. SATURDAY, I TOOK MY SUV TO FORD BLOOMINGTON, ENGINE SPUTTERED ON THE WAY THERE. FORD CALLED RENTAL CAR FOR ME( WITHOUT ME ASKING) AND AGAIN LOOKED AT THE ENGINE, WAS TOLD ON MONDAY THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD, NEEDED REPLACED. THEY HAD THE PART, BUT IT WAS THEIR LAST ONE AND THAT THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER UNTIL OCTOBER. I HAD PART REPLACED AS IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, FOR $500.00. ALSO I HAVE A $110.00 BILL FROM ENTERPRISE RENTALS. *JB
THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. ONCE ON 7/27 AND AGAIN TODAY, 8/6. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE COMING DOWN OFF AN OVERPASS WITH THE AIR ON THE CAR SUDDENLY STALLED. BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING 80MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, MY 2011 FORD ESCAPE WITH 27000 MILES SUDDENLY LOST POWER AS A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO PULL ONTO SHOULDER OR TO MOVE AROUND TRAFFIC. ALL FUEL ACCELERATION WAS LOST. AS I FINALLY COASTED TO THE SHOULDER, NARROWLY AVOIDING BEING THE CAUSE OF MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS, THE VEHICLE STARTING SHAKING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT (POWERTRAIN INDICATION) REMAINED OFF AND THE VEHICLE ACTED NORMAL. THERE WAS NOT AN INDICATION BEFORE OR AFTER THE INCIDENT OF ANY FAULTY SYSTEMS OR PARTS. THE VEHICLE DID THIS WITHOUT ANY REASON, LEAVING ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND RUNNING WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS INCIDENT. I FEAR IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT REASON AND PLACE MY LIFE AND THOSE OF MY PASSENGERS IN HARMS' WAY. *TR
