TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALLAN VIGIL FORD OF FAYETTEVILLE INC (275 GLYNN ST N, FAYETTEVILLE, GA 30214, (770) 461-1151) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVING AND CAR WENT INTO POWER FAILURE MODE AND WRENCH DISPLAYED ON DASH DISPLAY. FOUND PAPERWORK ABOUT THROTTLE BODY SAFETY RECALL. DECIDED TO HAVE SAFETY RECALL 16S41 FUEL MODULE DONE ALSO SINCE IT WAS GOING IN FOR WORK. ON SEPT 5, 2017 TOOK TO KEYSTONE FORD CHAMBERSBURG 717-264-5104. AFTER BOTH REPAIRS DONE I WAS STARTING CAR TO LEAVE- HAD VERY LONG CRANK TIME. HAD SERVICE PERSON COME OUT TO HEAR AND HE SAID" SOUNDS LIKE YOUR STARTERS GOING BAD". LEFT FORD AND CAR CONTINUED WITH LONG CRANK TIMES- NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WORKED ON IT. TOOK BACK ON SEPT 8,2017- THEY FOUND NOTHING BUT SAID I NEEDED NEW FUEL PUMP $700.00. I COMPLAINED BECAUSE THEY HAD WORKED ON THE FUEL PUMP AND THEN IT WENT BAD!! CLAYTON BLACK OFFERED ME TO DO THE FIEL PUMP FOR $509 AND NO COST FOR LABOR. ALSO IF NOT FIXED DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR WORK DONE. WENT TO PARSON'S INTERSTATE FORD SHIPPENSBURG FOR 2ND OPINION. THEY SAID THEY COULD DO THE FUEL PUMP FOR $474 WHICH INCLUDED LABOR! WHEN PARSON'S REMOVED THE FUEL PUMP THEY SAID A RING WAS LOOSE AND WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY LEAKED GAS- WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS. KEYSTONE DIDN'T HAVE IT ON CORRECTLY! I WANT KEYSTONE TO PAY FOR THE FUEL PUMP REPAIR THEY CAUSED THE DAMAGE TO- $499.
I HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE SEAT BELTS, THEY DO NOT RETRACK BY THEMSELVES AND SOMETIMES THEY LOCK UP EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT STOP SUDDENLY., ANOTHER PROBLEM IS WITH MY DASHBOARD THE LIGHTING GOES DIM AND THEM BRIGHT WHILE I AM DRIVING FOR NO REASON I CAN TELL, THIS IS ALL DURING CITY STREET DRIVING. I ALSO HAVE A STRONG FUEL SMELL WHICH LASTS FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES WHEN I START THE CAR IN THE MORNING.
2012 FORD ESCAPE VIN # [XXX] REAR WINDOW HINGES CORRODED. PICTURES ATTACHED OF CORRODED HINGES BOTH SIDES -ONE WORSE THAN THE OTHER PARKED MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY .... LATER WENT OUT TO RUN ERRAND AND THE WINDOW WAS OFF. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND CORROSION AT BOTH HINGES CAUSING ONE SIDE OF WINDOW TO DROP OFF. TODAY REVIEWING INTERNET COMPLAINTS I SEE THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM. ONE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED PROBLEM IS COMMON AND ANOTHER DEALERSHIP SAID NOT A COMMON PROBLEM BUT WE SELL QUITE A FEW HINGES. IS THIS PROBLEM NOT BEING REPORTED BECAUSE INDIVIDUALS BUY THE LOW COST REPLACEMENT HINGES AND REPAIR THIS ON THEIR OWN? WOULD APPRECIATE A REVIEW OF THESE COMPLAINTS AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS. MY 2012 FORD ESCAPE WAS RECALLED OCTOBER OF '16. TO DATE, I HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING FROM FORD IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA RECALL #16V777 AND ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, IT HAS NO REMEDY YET. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A SAFETY RECALL HAS A BIRTHDAY WITHOUT A REMEDY? WE'RE SUPPOSED TO ALLOW TIME FOR THINGS TO BE RESOLVED, BUT REALLY??? THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL ISN'T IT? THIS IS TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM BURSTING INTO FLAMES DUE TO A POORLY DESIGNED FUEL MODULATOR FAILURE RIGHT?

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, LEFT AND RIGHT WRISTS, BACK, RIGHT KNEES, RIGHT ANKLE AND THE RIGHT FOOT. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE CAUSING ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION, SHIFTING. MECHANIC SAID TRANSMISSION IS STARTING IN 5TH GEAR. JERKS VERY HARD WHEN PUT IN REVERSE. UPON GOING 45 MPH ENGINE REVS TO 3 RPM. CANNOT TAKE OFF FAST, VERY SLOW MOVING.
WHILE DRIVING UPHILL ON A BRIDGE ON A CITY STREET AT 40 MPH ENGINE SUDDENLY QUIT AND ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. NO PREVIOUS DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS BEFORE SHUT DOWN. COASTED TO A PARKING LOT. ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER. FORTUNATELY NO TRAFFIC AT TIME, BUT IF I HAD BEEN ON EXPRESSWAY OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN WRECKS AND FATALITIES. DEALER SAID IT WAS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. I ATTACHED THE REPAIR REPORT WITH PERSONAL INFO HIDDEN. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOME GETS INJURED AS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF OCCURS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
I WAS IN A TURN LANE TURNING ONTO A HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR STARTED SPUTTERING AND LOST POWER. I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I COASTED THROUGH THE TURN AND HAD TO COAST ACROSS A LANE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TO GET PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SAFETY. THE WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY HAVEN'T LOOKED AT IT YET BUT FROM WHAT I CAN TELL IT SOUNDS LIKE THE THROTTLE BOX, WHICH FORD HAD UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY'VE HAD WITH IT. WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN RECALLED??? IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME TO LOSE ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND THIS COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN AVOIDED IF THEY WOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL ON IT YEARS AGO!
IN THE PAST YEAR, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED 2 NEAR CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENTS BOTH DUE TO UNDER HOOD SAFETY LATCH FAILURES ON OUR 2012 FORD ESCAPE. IN BOTH CASES, WHILE DRIVING ON SAN DIEGO AREA FREEWAYS, THE HOOD UNEXPECTEDLY FLEW UP AND CRASHED INTO THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE NOT ONLY TO THE HOOD BUT ALSO THE HOOD HINGES, WINDSHIELD AND AREA SURROUNDING THE WINDSHIELD. THE TOTAL COST TO REPAIR OUR FORD ESCAPE FOR BOTH ACCIDENTS WAS ALMOST $9,200. ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY DRIVE THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AVOIDING OTHER VEHICLES IN EACH CASE, THE POTENTIAL FOR MULTIPLE VEHICLE AND SERIOUS INJURY EVEN DEATH WAS POSSIBLE. AFTER EXAMINING THE HOOD SAFETY LATCH LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE RADIATOR, IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM IS A POORLY DESIGNED SAFETY LATCH AND SPRING WHICH SHOULD ONLY ALLOW THE HOOD TO BE RAISED AFTER THE SAFETY LATCH IS MANUALLY RELEASED. OBVIOUSLY, IN BOTH CASES, THE HOOD SAFETY LATCH WAS NOT MANUALLY RELEASED BUT RATHER RELEASED FOR SOME OTHER REASON SUCH AS WIND, BUMPY ROAD, ETC. RELATED TO THIS UNDER HOOD SAFETY LATCH ISSUE IS THE LOCATION OF THE HOOD RELEASE LEVER ON THE LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE UNDER THE DASH. THIS HOOD RELEASE LEVER IS CO-LOCATED NEAR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE RELEASE. OBVIOUSLY, THE POTENTIAL FOR PULLING THE WRONG LEVER IS PRESENT BECAUSE OF THIS CO-LOCATION. NONETHELESS, THE HOOD SHOULD ONLY BE ALLOWED TO RISE, IF BOTH THE UNDER DASH LEVER AND THE UNDER HOOD SAFETY LATCH ARE MANUALLY PULLED / MOVED. THE HOOD SHOULD NEVER FLY OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN BEING DRIVEN ON A FREEWAY OR OTHER HIGHWAY EVEN IF THE UNDER DASH LEVER IS PULLED. AGAIN, THE UNDER HOOD SAFETY LATCH AND SPRING ARE POORLY DESIGNED IN OUR 2012 FORD ESCAPE ALLOWING THE HOOD TO FLY UP WHILE OUR CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE.

THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM P2111. ALSO TRANSMISSION WILL JUMP INTO GEAR CAUSING A LURCHING ACTION AND LOUD POP NOISE. MOVING DOWN STREET WHEN CAR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. LIMPED INTO AUTOZONE WHO RAN A DIAGNOSIS AND CAME BACK WITH P2111. THEN THEY LOOKED IT UP ON YOUTUBE AND FOUND HOW TO RESET IT (TURN KEY TO LOCK, SLOWLY (10 SEC) PUSH DOWN ACCELERATOR PADDLE, HOLD FOR 10 SEC, DEACCELERATE AT SAME RATE, TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART. IT WORKED FOR A FEW BLOCKS AND IT DID IT AGAIN. RINSE AND REPEAT SEVERAL TIMES TO GET HOME. LAST TIME ENGINE SYMBOL CAME ON...
GET CK FUEL FILL INLET WARNING, THEN GET CHK ENGINE LIGHT CODE IS P0457.SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY .

THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT AND FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERE NECK INJURIES, BROKEN RIBS, A BROKEN LEFT HAND, AND FRACTURES TO THE SKULL. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, MY 2012 FORD ESCAPE HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 40 MPH. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, ONE TIME ON A SIDE ROAD AND THE OTHER ON A HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, AND THEN TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. BOTH TIMES THAT SEEMED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OTHER 2012 ESCAPE OWNERS ON FORUMS/BLOGS.
BRAKE HOSE CONNECTOR FOR FRONT BRAKES IS NOT ALLOWING FLUID TO FLOW BACK TO MASTER CYLINDER. THIS CAUSES BRAKES TO REMAIN APPLIED AND HEATING UP. TEMPERATURES PREDICTED BY FORD DEALER (SHANE AT BOB ALLEN FORD, OVERLAND PARK, KS) PREDICTED TO BE AS HIGH AS 1200 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. POTENTIAL FOR FIRE IS HIGH AND BRAKES, ROTORS AND CALIPERS ARE RUINED. WAS NOTICED IMMEDIATELY BY DRIVER OF VEHICLE. NOT A DELAYED ISSUE.

THERE WAS NO INDICATION AS TO WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PROVIDE THE PART FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WHILE BRAKING THERE IS A VIBRATION AND ENGINE STALLS. THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE AND WANTS ME TO RESCHEDULE TO BRING IT N AGAIN A WEEK LATER. THIS HAPPENS EVERY I STOP OR SLOW DOWN IN A RIGHT TURN. I GET THE VIBRATION AND ENGINE STALLS. I HAVE TAKES ELSE WHERE TO CHECK IF THERE IS SOMETHING STUCK IN THE BRAKE BUT NOTHING FOUND THEY DO REPLICATE PROBLEM BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. I CAN NOT DRIVE UNTIL THIS IS FIXED AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE VEHICLE STALLS. DEALER IS NO HELP MAYBE MANUFACTURE OR SOMEONE ELSE THIS HAS HAPPENED TOO CAN ASSIST.
MY CAR WAS PARKED WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING. FOR NO EXPLAINABLE REASON, THE REAR WINDOW ON THE LIFT GATE EXPLODED. IT WAS PARKED ON A CITY STREET.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH BROKE NOT ALLOWING ME TO CLOSE THE DOOR AT ALL. AFTER CONTACTING FORD MOTOR COMPANY I WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL YEARS 2013-2015 NOT INCLUDING 2012. I HAD THE PART REPLACED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AT ALL AND I NEEDED A BUNGEE CORD TO KEEP IT CLOSED AS WELL AS HOLDING IT WITH ONE HAND WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE THE PART THAT WAS BROKEN IN MY POSSESSION AT THIS TIME. I AM WONDERING IF THE PART IN MY CAR COULD HAVE BEEN A PIECE THAT WAS PART OF THE RECALL. I DISCOVERED THIS BROKEN LATCH WHILE OUT SHOPPING WHEN RETURNING TO MY CAR AND HAD TO DRIVE HOME HOLDING MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. MY SON WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. FRONT END OF VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG NEVER WENT OFF. BUT THE SEATBELT LOCKED. THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP WAS DUMBFOUNDED AT WHY IT DIDN'T GO OFF. SO AM I.THE SEATBELT AND AIRBAG LIGHTS WERE ON ON THE DASH AFTER THEY FIXED IT. THAT'S HOW WE FOUND THAT THE SEATBELT LOCKED. I COULDN'T GET IT AROUND ME TO GO HOME. THEY THEN REPLACED THE COMPUTER. THE CAR STILL DOESN'T SEEN CORRECT. BUT, HOW DO I KNOW THAT IN THE FUTURE THERE IS AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE AND IT DOESN'T GO OFF AND I GET KILLED. MY SON WAS MOVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN THIS VERY YOUNG GIRL WITH A RESTRICTED LICENSE ABRUPTLY STOPPED. MY SON HIT HER. MY SON NOW OWNS THE VEHICLE. I'M MORE CONCERNED THAT I GAVE HIM A CAR THAT IS A HAZARD.

WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY TURNED OFF. I COULDN'T HIT THE ACCELERATOR AND HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, AND IT RESTARTED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. IT HAS DONE THIS TO ME A HANDFUL OF TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS, BUT EVERY TIME I TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC, THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE CANNOT FIX IT. THE FORD DEALERSHIPS OFFER TO "TAKE A LOOK AT IT" FOR A HIGH PRICE, AND CAN'T TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG EITHER. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN THE ELECTRICAL AND/OR FUEL SYSTEM, BUT NO ONE CAN SEEM TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS CONSUMERS, WE PAY A VERY HIGH PRICE FOR VEHICLES THAT WE DEPEND ON DAILY TO BE SAFE AND RELIABLE. I HAVE OWNED THIS ESCAPE FOR A LITTLE OVER 5 YRS (OUT OF WARRANTY). I JUST NOTICED THIS WINTER THAT THE PAINT WAS BUBBLING AND PEELING OFF THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FENDER. THE INNER FENDER WELL (SAME SIDE) - THE METAL IS WARPED AND RUSTED. THE LIFT GATE ON THIS VEHICLE HAS STARTED TO RUST AT THE LOWER SEAM. RUST IS VISIBLE. I THINK FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND FIX/REPAIR THIS FLAW. IT IS DEFINATELY A DEFECT OR POOR WORKMANSHIP.

I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT, AS I ACCELERATED TO TURN LEFT, THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND MADE A THUMPING NOISE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND IT STARTED AND THEN ACCELERATED. THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS DRIVING WHEN MY CAR STOPPED AND HE WAS BEEPING AT MY CAR. IT WAS LUCKY THAT HE WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND QUICKLY STOPPED AS THIS WAS VERY UNEXPECTED AS I WAS ACCELERATING AND NOT BRAKING TO CLUE HIM INTO STOPPING. ON THE WAY HOME I WAS TURNING LEFT AGAIN ONTO ANOTHER ROAD AND THEN WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD AND WHILE DRIVING THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION AGAIN AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE WAS ON AND IT WAS MAKING A THUMPING NOISE AGAIN. THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. IT WAS FRIGHTENING AS THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE AT FULL SPEED, AT LEASE 30MPH AND MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON AS I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CARS DRIVING AT FULL SPEED HAD TO QUICK GO INTO THE NEXT LANE TO AVOID HITTING MY CAR. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING. I QUICK PUT THE BRAKE ON SO THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE SEEN AND THEN THE FLASHERS. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AGAIN AND IT STARTED UP AND THEN ACCELERATED. I AM GOING RIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING AS THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I JUST GOOGLED THE THROTTLE AS THAT IS WHAT THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT STOOD FOR IN THE MANUAL AND I AM SEEING THIS HAD BEEN A FORD ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD AS THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SERIOUS PROBLEM. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. I GET MY OIL CHANGES AT FORD DEALERSHIP AND THIS WAS NEVER TOLD TO ME.
