HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE (10-12) INSTANCES WHERE ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. MOST COMMON SITUATION IS WHEN SLOWING FOR A TURN IN CITY TRAFFIC. CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, SO I HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN TRAFFIC.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE UNDERLINING UNDER THE VEHICLE BECAME LOOSE AND WAS HANGING DOWN NEARLY MAKING CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT MULTIPLE SCREWS THAT SECURED THE UNDERLINING WERE LOOSE. THE LOCAL DEALER SAHARA MOTORS (597 US 6 DELTA UT) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS INACCURATE.
COOLANT LEVEL IS DROPPING ON A MULTI WEEK BASIS. ENGINE SMELLS OF HOT COOLANT WHEN OPENING HOOD. CANNOT DETECT COOLANT DRIPPING ON TO THE GROUND BENEATH VEHICLE WHEN IT IS STATIONARY NO VISIBLE LEAKS DETECTED IN SYSTEM..
I HAVE A COOLANT LEAK SOMEWHERE WITH MY CAR. I HAVE BROUGHT THE ISSUE UP MULTIPLE TIMES WITH FORD AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. NOW, AFTER 2 YEARS OF DEALING WITH IT, I HAVE WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF MY EXHAUST WHEN I START UP MY VEHICLE. INDICATING THAT COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE, WHICH CAN CAUSE A FIRE. *TR
I OWN A 2013 FORD ESCAPE SEL 1.6 WITH 103,000. AFTER RECENTLY ALMOST BEING INVOLVED IN A CAR WRECK DUE TO MY ESCAPE STALLING, I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO GET A FUEL SENSOR REPLACED AFTER READING ONLINE THAT IT COULD BE THE CAUSE TO STALLING. FEW DAYS AFTER REPAIR MY ESCAPE IS STILL STALLING. ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING LIGHTS LET ALONE WARNING WHEN MY ESCAPE DECIDES IT WANTS TO DIE. MY ESCAPE STALLS AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHEN I'M IDLE. AS AN ESSENTIAL WORKER, I FEEL MORE SAFE WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC THAN DRIVING MY ESCAPE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED CHINO HILLS FORD LOCATED AT 4480 CHINO HILLS PKWY, CHINO, CA 91710 AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LAMP BULB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 134,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.*DT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE, BLUEISH GREY/WHITE SMOKE EXITED THE REAR TAIL PIPE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE VEHICLE STARTED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE ENGINE CYLINDER AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HALDEMAN FORD LOCATED AT 607 NJ-33, TRENTON, NJ 08619, WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
VEHICLE STALLS IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING GASOLINE TANK. REQUIRES 3-4 ATTEMPTS TO START, INTERMITTENTLY DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. *TR
When driving it makes farting noises and when you make a stop the rpm’s go up and down causing it to jump forward then will shut off and not start. If you open gas tank up and allow it to “fart” it will then start up and you can proceed to destination. Also if you shut car off while getting gas it might have you there for 10 minutes trying to start it but if you leave it on while pumping(which is not safe) it is fine. Talked with several Escape owners and all say they have same issues…so not sure why there hasn’t been a safety recall on it.
I PURCHASED A USED 2013 FORD ESCAPE SE, 1.6L ECOBOOST FROM A LOCAL FORD DEALER IN NOVEMBER, IT STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH LOW COOLANT AND OVERHEATING CAUSING THE CAR TO GO INTO LIMP MODE UNEXPECTEDLY. THERE IS NO SIGN OF OVERHEATING UNTILL THE ERROR COMES UP ON THE SCREEN AND THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE, THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION OCCASIONALLY ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAVE TO PUT COOLANT INTO THE RESERVOIR SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK NOW (IT HAS PRGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE). THERE ARE NO VISIBLE SIGNE OF LEAKING ANYWHERE AND WE HAVE HAD A MECHANIC DO A PRESSURE TEST ON THE COOLANT SYSTEM WHICH PASSED INDICATING THAT THERE IS NO LEAK. WE HAVE REPLACED THE COOLANT RESEVIOR AND CAP AS WELL AS THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR. NOTHING WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. IN REVIEWING OTHER FORD ESCAPE FORUMS AND CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NO FIX. ACCORDING TO YOUR WEBSITE ALL RECALLS ON THIS CAR HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. WE ARE ALSO GETTING A MIFIRE ON CYLINDER 3 ERROR INDICATING COOLANT COULD POSSIBLY BE LEAKING INT THE CYLINDER. THESE ISSUES CAUSE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK IF DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT DOING THE SPEED LIMIT AND IT GOES INTO LIMP MODE CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE IS TOO OLD FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT WORKS FOR A FORD DEALERSHIP THAT TOLD ME THAT ENGINE HAS A LOT OF ISSUES, UNFORTUNATELY I DID NT ASK HIM ABOUT IT BEFORE I MADE THE PURCHASE- LESSON LEARNED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PRIOR OWNER HAD THE SAME ISSUES BUT I SUSPECT THAT THEY DID. MY WATER PUMP SUDDENLY DIED. NO WARNING. I WENT FROM LOW ON HEATING FLUID TO OVER HEATING IN ABOUT A MINUTE. I KEEP MY CAR UP TO DATE ON ALL SERVICES WITHOUT FAIL. THIS IS MUCH SOONER THAN IT SHOULD FAIL. PLUS THE FACT THAT FORD CHARGES 4 TIMES MORE THAN OTHER CARS.
VEHICLE STALLS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY. AFTER STALLING IT NEEDS TO SIT IN ORDER TO BE RESTARTED OR ELSE IT WILL START UP AND STALL WITHIN A MINUTE. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO WHEN IT DOES THIS, SOMETIMES IT GOES MONTHS AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS MORE THAN ONCE IN A WEEK. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON MARCH 24TH, 2020 BUT IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES (OVER 25 TIMES) OVER THE 2-3 YEARS OWNING THE CAR.
VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING, BUCKS, JERKS AND SHAKES WHILE ACCELERATING. RPMS RANDOMLY ACCELERATING, NOT PRODUCING ENOUGH POWER TO ALLOW VEHICLE TO GET UP HILL. ENGINE OVERHEATING, ENGINE SERVICE SOON LIGHT FREQUENTLY COMING ON, ESPECIALLY AFTER SITTING OUT IN HOT/COLD WEATHER FOR A WHILE. MY RADIO HAS COMPLETELY JUST STOPPED WORKING, NO SOUND WHATSOEVER. I HAD HIT A DEER BACK IN MARCH OF 2020, TOOK IT TO MY DEALER FOR REPAIR. WHEN I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE I ASKED IF IT WAS STILL 'SHIFTING HARD.' I ASSUMED SINCE MY COMPUTER TO MY CAR WAS JUST DANGLING AFTER THE ACCIDENT I THOUGHT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG THERE. BUT APPARENTLY THERE HAS BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS AS FAR BACK AS 2018. NOW, HERE I AM MONTHS LATER AND AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR. WILL NOT HAVE MY DAUGHTER IN IT, WHICH MAKES IT HARD BEING A SINGLE MOM. TOOK IT TO MULTIPLE DEALERS EXPLAINING THE SITUATION. EVERYONE MADE ME SEEM CRAZY, IT MAGICALLY DIDN'T DO IT FOR THEM. NOW I SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE!

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT WOULD FREQUENTLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REQUIRED FREQUENT REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT LINKED HIS FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V431000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GUAGE SAID HIGH TEMP GET TO SAFE PLAACE TO STOP. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO BACK OR FORWARD. THE SHOP PUT IN TRANSMISSION BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEY PUT IN A GUAGE. NOW IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. EACH TIME I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND REPAIRED. I THINK THIS IS A MATTER THAT NEEDS BE BE IINVESTIGATED. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE INDICATOR CAME ON AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE REDUCED IN SPEED AND STARTED TO HESITATE. ONCE I GOT TO A PLACE TO STOP IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAVE SPENT OVER $3500 SO FAR AND IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED IN AGAIN AND THEY IT MIGHT BE THE MOTOR. I ONLY HAVE A LITTLE OVER 41000 MILE ON THIS VEHICLE AND I CAN'T AFFORD ANY MORE COST LIKE THIS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHER COMPLIANTS AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
COOLANT LEAK AND CANT FIND WHERE OR WHY CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD,ALSO YOU CAN SEE THE COOLANT ON THE GROUND WHILE PARKED.
VEHICLE DISPLAYED "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" MESSAGE WHEN STARTED BEFORE DRIVING TO WORK IN THE MORNING. DEALER QUOTED REPAIR EXCEEDED $1200.00. TEN MINUTES OF INTERNET SEARCHING REVEALED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE PREVIOUS GENERATION OF ESCAPES (2008-2011) AS WELL AS THE SAME GENERATION OF EXPLORERS (2011-2013). BOTH OF THOSE VEHICLES WERE RECALLED BUT NOT THIS ONE. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY IF IT HAD OCCURRED WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT 70+ MPH JUST A FEW MINUTES LATER.
AFTER STARTING THE CAR WILL START TO STUTTER EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE GAS AND WILL STALL. SOMETIMES IT WILL START AND RUN FINE FOR A FEW MINS AND THEN WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A LIGHT OR TURN, IT WILL DIE AGAIN AFTER STUTTERING. IT WILL STUTTER AND DIE MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE SPAN OF A FEW MINUTES THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY SINCE MY AREA DOESN'T HAVE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND A CAR IS THE ONLY WAY AROUND. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR WEEKS NOW WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A FEW DAYS AGO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO DIE THE LOW OIL LIGHT WOULD COME ON. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS RUN AND IT SHOWED A P0087 ERROR BUT WHEN THE FORD DEALERSHIP TESTED IT, THE ISSUE WAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL RAIL SENSOR.
ON 2 OCCASIONS, 11/4/2019 AND 3/10/2020, I TURNED THE IGNITION OF MY VEHICLE ON MY WAY TO WORK (AFTER CAR HAD COOLED DOWN ALL NIGHT). I DROVE ABOUT 5 HOUSES DOWN THE STREET ON A SUBURBAN ROAD AT 20 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND THE WARNING INDICATED THAT I SHOULD PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAS OVERHEATED. AT THE SAME TIME, THE CAR ENGINE STALLED AND I LOST MOTIVE POWER. BOTH TIMES MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE MECHANIC ADDED COOLANT FLUID EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO SIGN OF A LEAK OR OTHER EXPLANATION FOR THE LOSS OF COOLANT. I AM FEARFUL ABOUT WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I'VE HAD ALL 15 OF THE RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE FIXED IN 2018. I BELIEVE MY SITUATION IS JUST LIKE THE PENDING INVESTIGATION NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE18007.
AFTER DRIVING FOR A LENGTH OF TIME LONGER THAN 20 MINUTES WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK AND SHUT OFF WHEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE WILL TURN ON AND START BUT AFTER DRIVING A FEW HUNDRED FEET THE VEHICLE WILL SPUTTER, JERK, REV UP THE RPMS THEN THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN AND WON'T RESTART TILL IT HAS COOLED DOWN

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DAVID MCDAVID FORD FORT WORTH LOCATED AT (300 W. LOOP 820 S, FORT WORTH, TX 76108), WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTED TO LIMP MODE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
ENGINE COOLING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF LEAKAGE AT THIS TIME THAT WAS INSPECTED AS WELL. CONCERNED ABOUT OVERHEATING, SAFETY MODE AND OTHER ISSUES REPORTED FOR THIS 2013 1.6 LITER VEHICLE FOUND ON VARIOUS WEBSITES THAT COULD FOLLOW. VEHICLE PRODUCED 2/13 THAT FALLS OUT OF 2013 EARLIER RECALL FOR COOLANT/ENGINE PROBLEMS. OBVIOUSLY, THIS ISSUE IS OUTSTANDING FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR MODEL GIVEN MY SIMILIAR ISSUE ALONG WITH A MULTITUDE OF OTHER 2013 1.6 L ESCAPE OWNERS. THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING WHILE DRIVING.
ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN MY LOCAL HOMETOWN, THE COOLANT HAS BEEN LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND HAS CAUSED THE BLOCK TO WARP. ALSO IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MANY FORD ESCAPE MODELS, I'D LIKE TO HAVE OUR VEHICLE CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL BECAUSE THE COST IS OVER $7,000. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND COOLANT LIGHT ARE CONSTANTLY COMING ON WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND IT INDICATES THAT IT'S OVERHEATING
ENGINE RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION. FORD SURPRISINGLY 'CAN'T' REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS AND MOST OF THE TIME LEAVES US STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. A COUPLE TIMES IT HAS LEFT US IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTIONS. ONLY 87K MILES.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that she had initially observed spots on her driveway due to an unknown leak. The contact had taken the vehicle to several independent mechanics however, none of the mechanics could find the source of the leak. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle began to shake with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had discovered that the coolant reservoir was empty. While refilling the coolant reservoir, the coolant spilled out of the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to her residence. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which she linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was provided a case number and was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
ENGINE KEEPS STALLING AFTER DRIVING FOR AWHILE TOOK IT TO FORD GARAGE A FEW MONTHS AGO THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND BASED ON RESULTS OF NEW DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE BY A FRIEND AND NOT FORD GARAGE 2103 FORD ESCAPE P0234 I MAY EVENTUALLY BE REPLACING ANOTHER. THIS IS VERY ANNOYING BECAUSE THE FORD GARAGE CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM.

THE RPM WAS REVVED UP HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT DETECTED COOLANT LEAKING FROM VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TURBO LINES ARE STRESSED. THE CONTACT CALLED JOHN SANG FORD 195 UPPER RIVER RD, GALLIPOLIS, OH 45631(800) 272-5179, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
MY TRUCK KEEPS SAYING HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE STOP SAFELY....LIKE IT'S RUNNING HOT AND IT WILL NOT LET ME DRIVE...I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TWICE...THIS HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY TWICE..I FEEL LIKE IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT ONCE AND I CALLED FORD TO TELL TO HAVE IT FIXED BUT DID NOT GET A GOOD ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR.
CAR CUTS OFF/LOOSES POWER ALSO HAVE TO CONSTANTLY PUT ENGINE COOLANT IN AND CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID ENGINE WILL RUN HOT, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ISSUES DOORS UNLOCK, CAN NOT DRIVE OVER 35MPH, FUEL SYSTEM PUTTING GAS IN CAR WILL NOT START AUTOMATICALLY HAVE TO PUMP GAS PEDAL CAUSING UNSAFE TRAVEL

2013 FORD ESCAPE STEERING STOPS WORKING, BOTH SITTING STILL ON START-UP AND SOMETIMES WHEN MOVING IN TRAFFIC. THE DISPLAY PRESENTS "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" THE VEHICLE IS STEERABLE FOR ME, 70 Y/O MAN WITH GOOD UPPER BODY STRENGTH, BUT IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY DAUGHTER, THE OWNER OF THE CAR. FORD TELLS ME IT IS A FAULTY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST AND FOR ABOUT $2000 THEY WILL REPLACE THE STEERING RACK! IT SEEMS THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL EVENT GIVEN THE DANGER INVOLVED WITH HIGH SPEED DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAS 87000 MILES ON IT.
VEHICLE GOES INTO LIMP MODE DUE TO OVERHEATING FROM THE FAILURE OF THE COOLANT SYSTEM. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70MPH DOWN TO 15MPH IN A MATTER OF A FEW SECONDS WITH NO WARNING. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WORKED ON 5 SEPARATE TIMES, TWICE AT THE DEALERS EXPENSE AND THREE TIMES AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE CODE GIVEN FROM THE OBM IS P26B7, THAT POINTS TO A COOLANT SOLENOID C PROBLEM. I HAVE REPLACED THE PCM, RESET THE NEW PCM, COOLANT RESERVOIR, AND HEATER HOSE TWICE. I SMELL BURNING COOLANT WHEN EITHER THE AIR CONDITIONING OR HEATER IS ON ONCE THE ENGINE WARMS UP. THIS COOLANT ISSUE HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. I HAVE ATTACHED ONE SERVICE RECORD FROM NOV 2019. THE NEWEST SERVICE RECORD IS FOR FEB 2020.
THE ENGINE KEPT STALLING OUT AT IDLE OR JUST PUTTING INTO GEAR. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED AS GDI PUMP PSI WAS DROPPING TO 526. HE REPLACED IT. IT IS STILL STALLING OUT WHEN RIGHT AFTER PUTTING IT IN GEAR.
THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COOLANT RECALLS FOR FORD ESCAPES. MINE FELL UNDER ONE RECALL. MY COOLANT LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY WOULD TOP IT OFF AS A COURTESY AND I NEVER RECEIVED A WORK ORDER. I HAD TO REPLACE A COOLANT VALVE ONCE AND THEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THE SAME THING WAS WRONG. I REACHED OUT TO FORD SINCE THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS FOR THE COOLANT BUT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY PORTION OF THE COST. I FEEL THAT MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE RECALLS SINCE IF I HAD NOT HAD THIS PART REPLACED, THE COOLANT WOULD HAVE LEAKED AND THE CAR COULD HAVE STARTED ON FIRE. THE ADVISOR ACTUALLY SAID, I WAS HIGHLY RECOMMENDING YOU GET THIS REPAIR. I CONTACTED FORD AND ASKED THEM FOR A CUSTOMER REVIEW BECAUSE MY CAR COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS DAMAGE AND ASKED THEM TO HELP WITH THE COST AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T. I AM REACHING OUT BECAUSE MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AND THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED.

ON WEDNESDAY 2/12/2020, WHILE DRIVING HOME, I DETECTED SUBTLE SIGNS OF STEERING CONTROL IRREGULARITIES AND ATTRIBUTED IT TO ICY ROAD CONDITIONS. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, 2/13/2020, ON MY DRIVE INTO WORK, THE STEERING CONDITION BEGAN TO APPEAR AGAIN AND INTENSIFIED. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE MADE IT TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND PROMPTLY SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT THE FOLLOWING DAY, FRIDAY 2/14/2020. WHEN I LEFT WORK THAT DAY, I DISCOVERED A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST TO THE DEGREE THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO SAFELY CONTROL THE CAR. THE EFFORT TO STEER TO ANY NORMAL SAFE DEGREE WAS COMPROMISED AND REQUIRED THAT I ABANDON ANY ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IF THE SEVERE INTENSITY MANIFESTED ITSELF WHILE DRIVING, THE MOST PROBABLE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN A COLLISON. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SATURDAY, 2/15/2020, REQUESTED THEY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, AND EXPRESSED MY ANGER AT A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN SOMEONE'S DEATH. THEY CALLED ME BACK LATER THAT DAY AND GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF NEAR $2,500 TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE STEERING RACK. I DISCOVERED THROUGH INTERNET SEARCHES, ACTIVE RECALLS OF PRIOR ESCAPE BODY TYPES FOR A SIMILAR FAILURE BUT NONE ON MY YEAR. I ALSO DISCOVERED NUMEROUS CASES IN MY INTERNET SEARCH OF THE SAME FAILURE ON MY YEAR ESCAPE. MY WORK COMMUTE WAS PRIMARY CITY DRIVING.
CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING. MECHANIC FINALLY PULLED UP FORCED ENGINE SHUTDOWN AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT MEANT, SO I TOOK IT TO FORD. THEY CANT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I HAVE NO LIGHTS ON. I AM LITERALLY AFRAID FOR MY LIFE. FORD STILL HAS MY CAR HOPING TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. FORD HEADQUARTERS ARE BARELY HELPFUL. PROVIDED ME WITH A CASE NUMBER AND THAT'S ALL. WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTY ROAD, MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL DISPLAYED A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE NOTIFICATION. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE NOTIFICATION WENT AWAY AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GREG DARNELL FORD IN MIDWEST CITY, OK FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND WERE TOLD A GEAR ASSEMBLY IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAD GONE BAD (PART NO. HV6Z-3504-CD). THE REPAIR COST IS $2129 AFTER A 10% MILITARY DISCOUNT. THE PROBLEM IS VERY SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN 14V284000 FOR THE 2008-2011 ESCAPE, BUT THE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN EXTENDED TO COVER MORE RECENT MODEL YEARS. FORTUNATELY, MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO BRAKE AND SAFELY EXIT THE ROAD, SHAKEN BUT WITHOUT INCIDENT. HOWEVER, HAD SHE BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING COULD EASILY HAVE RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND A POTENTIALLY DEADLY ACCIDENT. SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE WITH 2013 ESCAPES ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY DISMISSED MY CONCERN AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.

MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I WAS REAR ENDED BY A MID SIZE CAR GOING AT LEAST 55MPH. THE VEHICLE DID NOT BREAK BEFORE COLLIDING WITH MY VEHICLE. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH MY DRIVERS SEAT AND MY PASSENGERS SEAS BROKE. THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE BASE OF MY SEAT WAS DISLODGED AND CRACKED. THE METAL STRUCTURE OF THE SEATS ALSO BROKE. BOTH MY DRIVERS SEAT AND FRONT PASSENGERS SEAT WERE COMPLETELY LAID BACK AND DID NOT RAISE AFTER THE COLLISION. THE SEATS BEFORE THE COLLISION WERE IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. DUE TO THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING MY HEAD CONTACTED THE STEERING WHEEL.

MY `13 ESCAPE ENGINE WILL SHUTDOWN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS EVENT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BUT THE LAST EXPERIENCE WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEARLY RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP EXAMINED THE CAR THIS PAST WEEK AND SIMPLY STATED THAT IT REQUIRED A NEW ENGINE AD OFFERED LITTLE MORE INFORMATION. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE ECU PROGRAMMING CAUSES THIS CONDITION. OVER TIME, THE CYLINDER HEAD AND/OR ENG BLOCK DEVELOPED INTERNAL CRACKS. THIS OCCASIONALLY LEADS TO OVERHEATING AND COOLANT CONSUMPTION. IN AN OVERHEAT SITUATION THE COMPUTER/DASH WILL INFORM YOU A FEW SECONDS BEFORE SHUTTING THE ENGINE DOWN. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU ARE, WHAT SPEED YOU'RE TRAVELING OR WHETHER YOU NEED POWER STEERING TO AVOID A DEADLY SITUATION. THE DEALERSHIP AND FMC OFFERED NO SOLUTION OR FINANCIAL COMPENSATION.

DEALERSHIP HANDED ME KEYS BACK TWICE AS BOTH TIMES SAYING THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE OR LEAK .AFTER DEMANDING THEY FIND ISSUE LAST YEAR BECAUSE COOLANT WAS LEAKING OUT AND I NEEDED TO ADD IT ONCE A WEEK OR TWICE.., THEY DID THOROUGH TEST AND AGAIN SAID FOUND NOTHING. YESTERDAY IT LET ME SIT ALONG SIDE OF ROAD TEMPERATURE GAUGE HEATED UP TO THE HIGH RED MARK. DEALERSHIP REALIZED ISSUE IS THERE NOW AND THEY FOUND HEATER HOSE TO COOLANT TANK HAD A LEAK IN IT- THIS IS THE 3RD TIME I REPORTED THIS ISSUE AND I HAVE TO PAY SINCE MY WARRANTY COMPANY THROUGH DEALERSHIP WON'T COVER THE HEATER HOSE PART. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND SLOWED MY VEHICLE DOWN SO I KNEW TO PULL OFF AND TEMP GAGE WENT TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL.
