PURCHASED USED 07/27/16 AND SINCE THEN, ON THREE OCCASIONS WHILE GOING UP SMALL INCLINES THE VEHICLE ACTED AS THOUGH IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND STARTED AND THE MOTOR STARTED TO REV UP, AS IF I HAD FLOORED THE GAS PEDDLE. AFTER PULLING TO THE ROADSIDE, THE ENGINE SLOWED DOWN TO NORMAL RPM'S AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS, SO I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE AND IT SEEMED TO BE OK AGAIN. ON THE THIRD INCIDENT IT DID THE SAME THING SEEMINGLY SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR AND THROTTLED WAY UP, HOWEVER THIS TIME A DISPLAY SHOWED ENGINE FAULT, AND WHEN I TRIED TO TAKE OFF AGAIN THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE UNTIL I BROUGHT IT TO A STOP AND TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. WHEN I RESTARTED THE MESSAGE WAS GONE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING FINE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS NOW. I HAD IT TESTED TO SEE IF ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE STORED, BUT IT SHOWED NONE. IT TOOK ABOUT 30 DAYS FOR IT TO ACT UP BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND INCIDENT, BUT ONLY A WEEK FROM THE SECOND TO THE THIRD INCIDENT. FORD DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY ANSWERS, UNLESS A CODE SHOWS UP IN THE MODULE, HOWEVER THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED.
WHILE DRIVING MY VECHICLE WILL STALL GO DEAD ALSO WHEN I START IT IT'S LIKE NOT GETTING GAS WHEN I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT JUST STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC FOR IT TO BE A 2013 I'VE HAD LOTS OF ISSUES / RECALLS ON WHAT WAS A NEW VECHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE FUEL CANISTER AND LINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE CAR WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING AT ANY GIVING TIME YOU CAN RESTART IT AND IT WILL GO UNTIL YOU HIT THIRD GEAR THEN IT WILL STALL EVERYTIME.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
AS I WAS EXITING MY GARAGE, THE POWER STEERING FAILED, MAKING IT VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED BEFORE I WAS ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND DIAGNOSED AS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. DEALER REPLACED STEERING GEAR. NOT COVERED UNDER NEW CAR WARRANTY OR ANY PREVIOUS FORD RECALL.
I PURCHASED MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE JULY 2015 AND FOR THE YEAR I HAD IT I WAS FAIRLY PLEASED. I HAD HEARD THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THESE CARS CATCHING FIRE AND WAS AWARE OF THE RECALLS. I HAD BEEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP BACK IN JUNE FOR A TUNE-UP AND ASSURED ALL RECALLS HAD BEEN DONE ON THE VEHICLE, I HAD BOUGHT IT USED BUT FORD WAS ABLE TO SEARCH THE INFORMATION FROM THE VIN, OR SO THEY SAID. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 23RD I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK, ON THE I-5 NORTH FAST LANE, WHEN THE CAR HAD A WARNING LIGHT SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT MY 4WHEEL DRIVE. THE CAR BEGAN TO LURCH AND SMOKE BEGAN TO COME UP FROM RIGHT UNDERNEATH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER, THANKFULLY WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, I COULD SEE THE SMOKE REPLACED WITH FLAMES AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT ON THE DASH. I GRABBED WHAT I COULD AND MY DOG AND CALLED 911. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO GET TO US THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. ALTHOUGH PERSONAL ITEMS, AND MY FIRST CAR I PURCHASED ON MY OWN, WAS LOST MY DOG AND I MADE IT OUT ALIVE. AS THE PROCESS OF DEALING WITH INSURANCE BEGAN I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET FORDS ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER. I AM NOW THE 14TH PERSON THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. AFTER MORE DIGGING AND NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS ONLY A HANDFUL OF THEM TOLD ME TO GET THE CAR IN IMMEDIATELY TO A SHOP BECAUSE OF FIRE RISK. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE RECALLS HAD NOT BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE, AND ONE DEALERSHIP EVEN GAVE ME A SHOP NAME THAT THE RECALLS HAD SUPPOSEDLY BEEN DONE AT. I CALLED AND THE SHOP HAD NO RECORDS OF EVEN SEEING THE VEHICLE. I AM AWAITING A LETTER FROM FORDS LEGAL DEPARTMENT BUT THIS ISSUE REALLY NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT THERE. I WALK BUY THE VEHICLES EVERYDAY, SOME WITH BABY SEATS IN THE BACK, AND IT HORRIFIES ME. **ALSO TRYING TO UPLOAD PICTURES BUT IT'S NOT ALLOWING ME. *TR

IN ADDITION, WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED, SMOKE APPEARED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
"ENGINE FAULT" SERVICE NOW SIGNAL CAME ON & CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. CAR WAS CUTTING OUT & DIFFICULT TO DRIVE.... MANAGE TO MAKE IT HOME SLOWLY WHILE DRIVING W/EMERGENCY FLASHERS. SIGNAL WENT AWAY AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF & WAS DRIVEN JUST FINE AFTER THAT. 2 WEEKS LATER EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED & FORTUNATELY I WAS CLOSE TO FORD DEALERSHIP & WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT THERE. ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACED & PART IS BACK ORDERED. AND CAR IS COMPLETELY UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN NOW.
ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2016 AROUND 6:30PM, I STARTED THE CAR AND NOTICED THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE STEERING WHEEL. NORMALLY THE STEERING WOULD COMEBACK AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE BUT NOT AT THAT TIME. I WAS RUNNING LATE AND DROPPED MY SON TO HIS ACTIVITY CLASS ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY MY HOME IN THE CITY AREA. THE POWER STEERING DID NOT COME BACK AT ANY TIME DURING THE TRIP THERE AND BACK. I COULD ONLY DRIVE SAFELY AT ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR, AND WHEN I NEEDED TO TURN, I HAD TO SLOW TO ABOUT 2 MILES PER HOUR IN ORDER TO MAKE THE TURN SAFELY. THIS WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SO WHEN I GOT HOME, I ARRANGED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT THE FAILED POWER STEERING. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS BAD CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. IT SEEMS THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH SEVERAL OTHER YEARS WITH THE ESCAPE UP TO 2012. MY ESCAPE IS A 2013 MODEL AND SHOULD ALSO BE A RECALL ITEM. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS, AND IT WAS ONLY 65,000 MILES AT THE TIME. IT'S TRULY UPSETTING THAT IT IS GIVING ME THIS TYPE OF UNSAFE ISSUE AND ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY AND OTHERS WHO IS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. *TR
TURNED ON VEHICLE AND POWER STEERING FAULT MESSAGE CAME ON. HAD NO STEERING ASSISTANCE AND TURNING WHEEL EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. TURNED CAR ON/OFF AND IT WENT AWAY. IT DID IT AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER BUT WHILE DRIVING RESIDENTIAL AT 25 MPH IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF/ON VEHICLE, FAULT WENT AWAY AND STEERING RETURNED. TOOK TO FORD FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR. WAS TOLD NO FAULTS STORE IN THE POWER STEERING MODULE THEREFORE WARRANTY WILL NOT PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR. WAS TOLD IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, DRIVE VEHICLE TO DEALER AND DO NOT TURN OFF. I TOLD THE DEALER THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THEY SHOULD NEVER RECOMMEND TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH NO POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO DO ANY FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS AND COULD NOT RECOMMEND SAFE FUTURE STEPS. REFUSING TO PAY FOR WARRANTY ON A SYSTEM WITH NO FAULTS THAT DOES NOT STORE FAULT CODES IS UNREASONABLE. THE CAR IS UNSAFE FOR MY WIFE TO OPERATE YET THEY TOOK NO STEPS TO CORRECT CONCERN. THE MODULE PROGRAMMING WAS UPDATED BUT ADVISOR DESCRIBED THE UPDATE AND IT DOES NOT ADDRESS MY ISSUE.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR OFF THE LOT ON SATURDAY 9/17/2016. ON TUESDAY EVENING OF THE 20TH MY FAMILY AND I WENT TO DINNER CAR RAN FINE NO WARNING SIGNALS. PARKED THE CAR WENT IN TO EAT AND CAME OUT STARTED THE CAR AND WENT TO DRIVE AND COULDN'T STEER I THEN NOTICED THE MESSAGE BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL THAT READ STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE NEEDED. I THEN SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TRIED TURNING IT BACK ON STILL SAME MESSAGE. WE LITERALLY DROVE HOME WITH NO STEERING WHICH IS BEYOND DANGEROUS. IT IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. AT THIS POINT I AM SCARED TO EVEN DRIVE IT AGAIN.
TRANSMISSION/SHIFTER LINKAGE BREAKS EASILY LEAVING VEHICLE IN OR OUT OF GEAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
THE SAME THING DESCRIBED IN 13V583000 HAPPENED TO ME ON THE HIGHWAY. FORD IS HIDING BEHIND THE VIN AND SAYS BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE VIN IS NOT EFFECTED BY 13V583000 THAT THEY CANNOT REPAIR IT. I OWE 16000 ON THIS CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
RECALL-DOORS OPEN WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING
2013 FORD ESCAPE LOST POWER STEERING TWICE ON 9/12/16 WITH THE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" MESSAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. 1ST TIME HAPPENED 2 MINUTES AFTER START WHILE TURNING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. 2ND ONE HAPPENED 10 MINUTES AFTER START WHILE DRIVING. IF THIS HAPPENS DURING DRIVING IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!! YOU LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE WOULD HAVE CRASHED FOR SURE. THEY SAY IT HAS A MANUAL REVERSION TO DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THIS IS WAY HARDER. THE RACK AND PINION HAD PROBLEMS AND WAS REPLACED ON 8/5/15 AT 23972 MILES. IT HAS GONE OUT AGAIN ON 9/12/16 AT 38000 MILES. NOW FORD IS SAYING IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ONCE AND HAS NOT GONE OUT AGAIN IN 1 YEAR! THIS IS CLEARLY A FAULTY SYSTEM TO HAVE GONE OUT TWICE IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS AND 38000 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR SURE AND I HAVE NO DOUBT WILL LEAD TO A RECALL OR LAWSUIT.
COOLANT BYPASS VALVE CLOGGED CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT AND STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AFTER TURNING OFF OF A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. MANAGED TO LIMP THE VEHICLE TO FORD AND PART WAS REPLACED AFTER TWO DAYS OF THE DEALER HAVING IT. PART IS UNDER RECALL, BUT NOT APPLICABLE FOR MY VIN APPARENTLY TOLD TO ME BY FORD CORPORATE. COST OF REPAIR OUT OF POCKET WAS $400.
MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE IS OVERHEATING AND IT CUT OFF ON ME WHILE IN MOTION ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND IT WOULDN'T NOR START .

ONE MONTH AGO, JULY 2016 THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SUDDENLY OPENED AND WOULD NOT LATCH. WE TRIED EVERYTHING; WE COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE DURING TURNS THE DOOR WOULD SWING OPEN AND THE ALARM WOULD NOT STOP DINGING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAW THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM/RECALL WITH THIS YEAR 2013 ESCAPES. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I CALLED FORD, SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS AGAIN TOLD, MY CAR NOT PART OF RECALL. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS! THEY SAID IF RECALL IS EXPANDED I CAN GET A REFUND FOR MY REPAIR. ONE MONTH AND 7 DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. MY DOG NEARLY FLEW OUT OF THE CAR.
