My engine coolant kept disappearing with no signs of a leak and no overheating. Then one day it was driving fine when I stopped at a red light and it stalled so I tried to restart it but every time I put it in gear it stalled so I had to get it towed to a mechanic and the diagnosed it as transmission failure. It never showed signs of transmission issues and never had a check engine light on or anything. Worst buy ever
My vehicle has a severe oil leak, including leaks at the T valve, vacuum pumps, and transmission fluid. My local garage said this should be covered under the Ford Escape Oil Leak recall, but Ford said it is not. The Ford dealership in Bridgeport, CT, said they were unaware of any oil leak issues with the 2014 Escape, which was not part of the recall. They asked for $3000.00 to cover repairs and said they could not guarantee that the issue would be corrected entirely. My local garage said the vehicle should not be driven as the issue can cause the car to catch fire. I have seen many recalls on the Ford Escape for the problem below. Ford Escape Recall: Certain vehicles with 1.5L engines may have vulnerable engine oil separator housing that can crack and allow oil to leak. A fire can occur if fuel leaks onto an ignition source at high temperatures. Ford states that at least four drivers experienced car fires within five minutes of shutting down the engines in their vehicles. It is disappointing that Ford does not own up to this oil leak issue in their vehicles. I have had nothing but problems with my 2014 Ford Escape. The repair costs are incredibly high. I am making car payments on a vehicle that I can no longer drive due to the dangers of a possible car fire. In addition, Ford knows this is an issue but has not issued a recall for my Ford 2014 vehicle. This is very disheartening as it shows they do not value the safety and lives of their customers. I would appreciate it if this can be looked into further,
I have been having a lot of problems with the backup camera on my vehicle. For the past 2 years the backup warning beep sounds when there is nothing behind the car. For the last year, the camera sometimes shows inverted and at times it doesn't work at all. This is a very important safety feature for me since I am unable to turn my head fully due to a neck injury. I read an article a few days ago on Reuters saying that Ford Escapes, among others, are being recalled because of these issues. When do you expect a recall notice to be issued for my vehicle? Thank you for your time and assistance.
My backup camera does not work properly. The video often appears onscreen as upside down or does not appear at all. There are no lights or warnings of any kind when this happens. I’m usually backing up in a parking lot using the backup camera and it suddenly flips upside down or it goes black. When this happens I have to react immediately and stop the car since I can no longer tell if a person or another vehicle is behind me. This has been happening for over a year. It has now happened so often that I’m scared to put the car in reverse.
Vehicle has been to Ford dealer several times for loosing coolant. The error message for low coolant is always on, even after verifying the level. The dealer states not to worry about the error message and that they cannot locate the leak. Recently the vehicle warnings for overheating went off and found that the coolant reservoir was low. The dealer maintains they are unable to find a leak or root cause of the problem.
I have had coolant issues with this car for 7+ years. No matter what work I have done to it, it still looses coolant. I'm currently topping off the reservoir every 3-4 days. Pressure test does not find a leak but it must be going somewhere!! Within the past 3 months I have had: - heater hose replaced ($500+ at dealership) - valve cover gasket and turbocharger wastegate control solenoid replaced ($800+) - coolant tube and vac system replaced ($1000+ at dealership) I have had other extremely expensive repairs done over the years, including recalls, and the car still looses coolant somehow.
I have maintained my vehicle as I always have with previous autos in the past. In 11/22 I had to replace the transmission, which left me 6k+ in debt. My auto is now seemingly going into limp mode for no reason whatsoever and just shutting off while driving. This almost caused an accident, there was NO forewarning of any mechanical issues prior to it doing this. The check engine light came on, rpm’s declined, tried to move to side of the road by pressing gas pedal with no acceleration. Shut car off, called a tow truck mechanic could not diagnose any problem. Since this first incident it has happened almost everytime I’ve driven it. This last time left me and my dog on side of road, unable to move to safe place due to no acceleration with gas pedal. My car is now leaking oil once parked, there’s oil all over hood and internal parts of car, auto is now spuddering with intermittent bursts of power. I’ve never had as many issues with a vehicle as I have with my ‘14 Ford escape ecoboost titanium suv. Upon researching common problems with this year and make this is a MAJOR COMMON ISSUE. For an auto to be “known” for these mechanical issues, these should be ALL covered by the manufacturer!! Transmission is a known issue, the deacceleration and oil leak issue once this issue starts are all known issues. Every mechanic I’ve either brought it to or discussed my issues tell me the same thing, “ oh yeah, that year is known for these issues” so what does one do, when they can’t afford a new vehicle , they owe more on the car due to the repairs? I’ve also needed to replace minimum of 5 headlight bulbs and tail light bulbs within the last 6 months. That’s not normal. Please advise
The transmission is slipping. When you try to get it up to forty forty-five it jerks and boggs down almost stops in it place. Have to slowly press the exceradtir to get it moving again almost causing be rear ended there is a noise and ive carried it to a couple ford dealers me they honestly weren't sure whats going . Also the washer motor went out for no reason . But mostly my concern. Is the transmission issues. There is a light that comes one it's like the two tires on the back lights up
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle made a popping sound and then lost motive power. An unknown message was displayed. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, but the transmission failed to shift into reverse(R) or drive(D). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer discovered a coolant leak; however, the dealer was unable to determine the location of the leak. The contact was instructed to wait several weeks and then insert a dye to determine the source of the leak. The dealer insisted that a faulty sensor needed to be replaced because the engine temperature could not be determined. The sensors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
the instrument panel cluster gets inoperative including a blank multiple functional display (MFD), and non-functional warning chimes, messages and warning lights. The engine cylinder head overheats crack and leak oil. Other 2014 Ford escapes have had recalls for the same issues but they are saying mine isn't affected. Obviously it is.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated the transmission was jerking abnormally while shifting gears. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, there was engine oil leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was determined that the failure was related to the pistons. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 184,080.
My car has 15 recalls. I was only notified of 2. According to one of the letters I received It states that repairs were done but not completed and that is a lie. I have never had any recall work done, mainly because the first letter said they didn't have parts. I was only made aware of the latest 2 and no work has ever been done that I am aware of nor have I ever been notified until recently. So why are they saying work was done when I know it wasn't? One of the recalls says my car should not be driven for safety reasons. How can they be trusted? I know the repairs were not done even though the letter says it has been done. How can they claim it was fixed, when I know for a fact it wasn't. What can I do to prove they are lying? Shouldn't there be records? I would love to see these records. My name is [XXX] [XXX] . or [XXX] . My car is a 2014 ford escape. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Coolant intrusion around 130,000 miles. I swapped the motor from a 2013 Escape that had 107,000 miles on it and the coolant intrusion is happening with that one after driving 15,000 more miles.
The contact’s mother owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While the contact's mother was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with coolant leak and engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
My 14 Escape will not turn off. This is a standard start not push button. Been running for an hour without key in ignition. Recall for this issue is not for 2014 models it seems. Does have factory dealer installed remote start that was put in years ago.
2014 Ford Escape Power Steering failure while on the interstate in fast moving and heavy traffic. Almost caused a pile up and barely got out of the way of a semi truck going 70 or more mph to the safety of the edge of interstate. The power steering had been working fine. Until a couple days prior to the incident, I cranked it up and it seemed like it was in manual steering mode. I cut it off re cranked it and it was fine. So i thought just a randon glitch when starting it. Always loved and relied and trusted ford vehicles until the incident on the interstate. I got it off the interstate cut it off and started it again, it was no longer power steering and felt it was in manual steering mode all the way on the back roads getting it home. I contacted Ford and told them of the problem, they instantly said they had repared vehicles and also numerous complaints on this problem and that there was not a recall on it, only on vehicles up to 2012. Then after further research I found tons of folks who were experiencing the same problem and some in the process of lawsuits or in process of filing one against Ford for the problem. I ask on line and researched others complaints about their experience, for some it was just the battery, so I replaced it with a new battery, it was not the problem and soon after had someone put a scanner on it and it shows the electric steering rack as the error. the dealership when called about the part stated that Ford had several problems with the steering part, that the system had a faulty boot which would allow water to get into the electric steering component and basically fry the board. The solution Ford has for it is not to do anything about it in numerous vehicles having the same faulty parts is to sell you a corrected part and charge you around $4000/labor? Really? You are getting sued and you are telling others to repair it with another probably faulty part again? Should I sue for the repairs? Can they be forced to recall?
Coolant system leaking continuously causing overheating; frequent issue in 2014 ford escapes
This vehicle has had a bad electrical problem where it makes a real bad clicking noise and sometimes it doesn't turn off the radio also the radio doesn't turn on at times. The major problem is it has not passed emissions for almost a year it gives out bad sensor readings and clearing the code so I can pass emissions don't help it comes back on. I have tried to let Ford know that this car is having recall issues . I have had a purge valve put on it but it's still it's not capable of passing the emissions because the sensors at all Ford dealerships said they can reset the sensors but they want me to pay I don't think that is fair to me because these are recall issues that I'm having! even though it's older .I think it's only fair to have it analyzed at a Ford dealership free of charge.. I'm paying car notes and I cannot even drive the vehicle safely now it's leaking antifreeze if you check the past recalls on 2014 Ford escapes there were fuel injector problems and that's probably why it cannot pass emissions so I need this recall handled properly thank you.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the high temperature gauge alert was red and the notification to stop and the turn off engine soon warning light was illuminated. The contact's wife parked the vehicle and turned the vehicle off. The engine had overheated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
The contact's girlfriend owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at approximately 10 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The transmission warning light illuminated later. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Information/Instrument cluster has gone blank. I cannot see mileage, or any warning information. This problem was on a previous recall.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while having new tires installed on the vehicle, the tire dealer was unable to remove the lug nuts because the lug nuts were swollen. The contact was informed by the tire dealer that the bolts and the lug nuts needed to be removed and replaced to properly mount the new tires. The contact called a dealer and was informed she had to pay out-of-pocket to have the lug nuts and mounting bolts replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
With no warning or indication the car would not go into gear. When put in reverse the car went forward. The car then bucked and the wheels kept spinning. I shut the car off and turned it back on. I had my children in the car. I was able to drive up the road and then the car made some crazy noises and would no longer accelerate. The car then indicated it needed to be serviced due to the transmission. No warning. No indication. Just died. I got this car a month ago.
My power steering locks up on Frozen mornings and will not turn this has happened numerous times since 2023 and it is now January 21st 2024 and is becoming more frequent
After remote starting the vehicle, the vehicle timed out. Upon entering and starting the vehicle, a check engine light and overheating notification were received. The vehicle was undrivable and this occurred during single-digit temperatures. The vehicle was left overnight (single-digit cold weather) and upon return the following day, the vehicle was started and still had a check engine light and engine overheating notification. The vehicle was towed to the dealership for diagnosis. The dealership determined that coolant was leaking into cylinders 1 and 2. The dealer indicated that the necessary repair would be an entire engine replacement and was quoted $10,000 dollars. The repair estimate was declined and the vehicles check engine light was cleared and ran fine.
We had our vehicle engine light come on, vehicle would shake and misfire, we had the spark plugs replaced. No sooner the vehicle light came on again, vehicle still shake and misfire and had it looked at with Ford service Ford service replaced the power packs. No sooner once again, the engine light came on, this time the vehicle over heated. The vehicle would shake and misfire. Took it in again to Ford service, they concluded that it was the throttle body they replaced and fixed. No sooner once again, the vehicle still shooked, but this time the vehicle started to lose power and would not go while driving on the highway, it over heated, misfired. Returned once again to Ford service whom finally revealed the truth and said these vehicles are notorious for a new engine. We were told that the design of the engine revealed that coolant was leaking into the block/heads. It was unsure if the blocked cracked and that we needed a new engine. If we just replace the head gaskets that later down the road we would need to replace the engine. We were left with replacing the vehicle with Ford service in replacing the engine at the mileage of 96,812
A repeated low coolant light continues to show up after refilling the system and having it flushed. The system message center presented a message that said "Stop Safely Now" due to low coolant. The engine temperature gauge was reading completely cold.
Backup camera on my Ford Escape works only intermittently, sometimes it shows a black screen and error message, at other times it shows an upside down images. Please include this model year (and perhaps others) along with the recent backup camera recall you recently issued. Thanks for considering my request.
After no signs of overheating or leaks the coolant level of the car has dropped significantly after topping off several times. The heat stopped working and the coolant reservoir never stayed filled. We took it to the dealership for diagnosis. The service representative told us the coolant was leaking directly into the engine and the only solution is to replace the cracked engine block.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "High engine temperature, stop safely" message was displayed before the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the coolant reservoir was empty. The contact had to add water or coolant to the coolant reservoir for the vehicle to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle previously had two unknown repairs for coolant intrusion; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the "High Engine Temperature - Stop Safely" message was displayed on the instrument panel with the temperature gauge indicating that the engine was hot. The contact pulled over and allowed the engine to cool down. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the coolant reservoir was empty. The contact replenished the coolant and drove the vehicle home. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving uphill at 35–45 MPH, there was white smoke coming from the tailpipe. The vehicle went into LIMP Mode and lost motive power. The engine temperature rose to a HOT level. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to veer off the roadway. The contact stated who is an independent mechanic completed a diagnostic test and indicated that there were codes for the cylinder head, overheating, and cam position sensor fault. There was coolant entering the cylinder head and exiting through the tailpipe. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact about a software program and referred the contact to the local dealer and the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle was intermittently consuming twice the amount of fuel while driving at various speeds. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact documented that a certain routine trip with the vehicle showed that a 25-mile trip was consuming 55 miles worth of gasoline. The dealer was notified of the failure but could not duplicate or diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
The factory-installed rear backup camera image flips upside down while in the car is in reverse and some times won't even turn on. Ford knows about the defective cameras.
Lug-nuts corroded under the plating causing the service dealer (NTB) to not be able to get the proper size wrench on them to remove and then re-tighten. They said new lug-nuts would be required to service the tires (been driving and servicing vehicles for 50+ years, this is the first vehicle I had to replace the lug-nuts). Had to purchase a new set of 20 lug-nuts to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, it is a bad two piece design on the lug-nut and should be re-engineered. I could have forced the lug-nuts off myself, but if this happens to my wife or daughters when they need to replace a flat, it would be a big safety concern. Ford should address it.
Engine slowly loses antifreeze which is leaking into cylinders. This causes overheating and cracked block. This is a problem with all Ford 1.6 litre motors. Ford knows this!
Back up camera doesn't function 100% of the time. Get display message stating unable to connect (or similar) Other times, no message or screen change. Has been happening for over one (1) year. Not just one time.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the temperature indicated that the vehicle was overheating, and the contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed that the coolant reservoir was abnormally low. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the coolant intrusion had damaged the engine, requiring the long block to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Vehicle is leaking coolant. This seem to be common on this model even after the coolant recall service was performed.
I was not notified by Ford of two recalls issued on my vehicle.
Engine overheated, loss of coolant, check engine light illuminated. Towed to Ford dealership. replaced valve cover gasket and spark plugs. Dealership said this would fix overheating issue. 3 weeks later engine overheated again, loss of coolant, check engine light illuminated. Towed for a different Ford dealership. No stored code for check engine light illuminated. Mechanics cannot reproduce overheating. Mechanics said they have found nothing wrong, no loss of coolant. There is a recall for 2014 Ford escape 1.6L ecoboost, Ford is saying my vin number does not fall in this recall of Engine and Engine cooling. Recall # 17V2009000. Both dealerships say nothing is wrong with the car, they cannot find an issue yet it has happened 2 times now.
The car was smoking whitish gray smoke. I had something repaired. About 3 week later the smoke returned. Took to dealership told it needed an engine. Given a price of $14,000. With that info my car has been parked. I never received info that ford had a class action about engines until a month ago. Please advise.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly jerked. The contact stated that after shifting into drive, the message “Shift to Park” message was displayed. The service transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a general failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 149,000.
My car's coolant is leaking, this may lead to many belts breaking and engine failure. There are many reports online about coolant leaking and totaling the Ford Escapes. This puts me and others at risk because my car could stop working at any time while driving it. My dealership has noted that the coolant was leaking, but did not notify me about it. No warnings or lights came up on my car besides telling me my coolant was low, I refilled it multiple times.
Coolant circulation as part of recall 17S09. Not sure if my car was affected but it’s not right. We have change coolant bottle and coolant seems to be going somewhere and can’t figure out if my car was with this recall. Also already had to rebuild transmission. It was destroyed. $5000. Will never buy a ford again
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 35-45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted after several attempts. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer where it was diagnosed that the PCM, electrical system, fuel system and power train had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V413000 (Power Train), 14V495000 (Electrical System), and 14V525000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was no warm air coming from the defroster or air vents while the heater was activated. The contact was adding coolant to the coolant reservoir two to three times a month for the system to operate as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
My car was put into safety mode and dropped down to 3 miles per hour
