I BOUGHT MY '16 FORD ESCAPE OVER A YEAR AGO. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO JUST FINE WHEN TURNING IN AN INTERSECTION THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IT WAS DRIVING WITHOUT ISSUES UNTIL THIS PAST WEEK WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND WHILE IN MOTION THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIES. AGAIN I TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZZARD AS THE CAR COMPLETE GOES INTO A COST WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IT.
2016 ESCAPE WITH NO HISTORY OR PROBLEMS PRIOR TO EVENTS HERE. DURING A TRIP FROM HOME APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES AWAY VEHICLE OPERATED JUST FINE. AFTER A 5 MIN STOP, I RE-ENTERED AND STARTED THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 2 MILES AND WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING 70 MPH VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUTTERED AND ACCELERATION AGGRAVATED THIS SITUATION. POWER LOSS WAS PRESENT, AND VEHICLE STALLED OUT. I COASTED TO SHOULDER. ATTEMPTED NUMEROUS RESTARTS THAT WOULD SEEM TO CATCH BUT SOON STALL OUT. EVENTUALLY GOT THE VEHICLE TO RUN ENOUGH TO LIMP OFF THE HIGHWAY. VERY LOW POWER. PARKED FOR 20 MIN AND RESTARTED WITH NO APPARENT ISSUE. ENGINE LIGHT WAS PRESENT SINCE FIRST STALL. DROVE ABOUT 1 MILE AND SYMPTOMS RETURNED. LOW POWER AND STALLED OUT. VEHICLE RESTARTED AND I AGAIN LIMPED OFF HIGHWAY. EVENTUALLY GOT TO EXIT AND OFF INTO A PARKING LOT. NUMEROUS STALLS AND NEVER ANY REAL POWER. WAITED FOR A TOW FROM THERE AND VEHICLE RESTARTED WITH NO ISSUES WHEN DRIVING IT ONTO THE TOW TRAILER. FUEL PRESSURES WERE NORMAL, AND CODES WERE P06A7, P0106 AND P0236 WERE PRESENT AND PERMANENT WHICH WAS ALSO A NEW DEVELOPMENT. PERMANENT CODES HAVE BEEN ELUSIVE. A PREVIOUS RECALL ON 2013-2014 ESCAPES FITS THIS ISSUE EXACTLY. AFTER NUMEROUS HOURS OF RESEARCH, I AM CONVINCED THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE INVOLVED IN THE PREVIOUS FORD TSB 13-12-12 AND THE PREVIOUS TSB 13-7-5. I WAS IN GREAT DANGER WHEN THIS VEHICLE STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT WARNING. RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON 70 PLUS MPH ROAD WITH ALMOST NO SHOULDER. BECAUSE OF THIS AND THE DISABLING OF THE AIRBAGS WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURS ALONG WITH THE SEAT BELT ACTUATORS, I THINK IT'S REASONABLE TO ASSUME THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I'M CONFIDENT THIS ISSUE CAN BE REPLICATED.
CODE P1450 WHICH IS EMISSION PROBLEMS. REGULATES THE FLOW OF STORED FUEL VAPORS FROM ESCAPING INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL.
A RECENT INCIDENT WITH MY VEHICLE, A 2016 FORD ESCAPE SE AWD, HAS LEFT ME UNHAPPY AND DISAPPOINTED IN FORD MOTOR COMPANY. SINCE I STARTED DRIVING IN 1984 I HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT AND OWNED A FORD PRODUCT. I HAVE HAD NO REASON TO QUESTION THE QUALITY OF FORD PRODUCTS UNTIL NOW. THE ESCAPE HAD TO BE TOWED INTO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP, CHAMPION FORD ' EDINBORO, PA. UPON INSPECTION OF MY VEHICLE THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED AN INNER SEAL WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. THIS RESULTED IN TRANSMISSION FLUID ENTERING ALL AREAS OF THE TRANSMISSION AN ESSENTIAL RUINING THE UNIT. THE SERVICES MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION WAS REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. THIS WAS DONE WITH THE PURCHASE OF A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME ON FEBRUARY 27, 2019. MY FIRST DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THE TRANSMISSION OF A 2016 ESCAPE FAILING IN LITTLE OVER THREE YEARS SINCE PURCHASE (OCTOBER 2015). THE SECOND DISAPPOINT WAS THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. MY ESCAPE HAD A 5-YEAR/60,000-MILE WARRANTY ON THE POWERTRAIN. AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE I HAD DRIVEN MY ESCAPE 72,000 MILES. THEREFORE, I WAS LEFT WITH A $6232.67 REPAIR BILL ON A VEHICLE I HAD HOPE TO LAST ME SEVEN TO TEN YEARS. AT THIS POINT I WILL NEED TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE ANOTHER TWO OR THREE YEARS. WHEN I DO BEGIN LOOKING FOR ANOTHER NEW CAR, I NOW BELIEVE I NEED TO START LOOKING AT OUR MANUFACTURER PRODUCTS. I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD HONOR THEIR PRODUCTS BETTER THAT I HAVE SEEN IN THIS EXPERIENCE. IF THE COMPANY DOES STEP UP AND PROVIDE SOME RE-COMPENSATION FOR MY DIFFICULTIES, I WOULD BE WILLING TO RE-THINK MY LOYALTIES TO THIS BRAND. WHEN ACCELERATING ON A HIGHWAY (GOING 55 - 60 MPH) VEHICLE ABRUPTLY SHIFTS GEAR AND SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN TO THE POINT OF THINKING THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE AND THEN A FEW DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE STARTED HESITATING TERRIBLY WHERE THE CAR WAS HOPPING DOWN THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. THEN AT A LIGHT IT STALLED OUT COMPLETELY AND I WAS NEARLY HIT. AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE BEYOND 30 MPH. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE FOLLOWING DAY WHERE IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO THEM. NO CODES PRESENT, BUT A COUPLE HISTORICAL CODES FOR SENSORS. THEY INDICATED THEY WERE UNSURE IF THE SENSORS WERE THE ISSUE, BUT REPLACED. PICKED VEHICLE UP AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TODAY. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY THIS TIME, BUT THE CALL COMPLETELY STALLED AT LOW SPEED WITH AC ON AND MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THIS TIME EITHER. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE CURRENTLY UNSURE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. THIS ISSUE SEEMS SIMILAR TO OTHER REPORTS AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I AM HAPPY TO PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. I WILL BE ESCALATING THIS UNTIL APPROPRIATELY RESOLVED. SEEMS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL, BASED ON THE VOLUME OF REPORTS.
REAR REVERSE CAMERA NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT WILL ALWAYS BLUR AND WILL TURN UPSIDE DOWN WHEN BACKING UP, THUS MAKING IT DANGEROUS FOR ACCIDENT.
JAN. 24, 2019 POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON HAD NO POWER STEERING. CONTACTED LANGLADE FORD IN ANTIGO, WI TOOK IT THERE THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO REPLACE THE EPAS COMPLETE SYSTEM AND IT WAS DONE ON FEB. 1, 2019 AT COST OF $1683.41 AS MY 3 YEAR WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I WROTE TO FORD IN DEARBORN, MI ABOUT IT, AND RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THEM ON MAR. 8, 2019 THEY STATED "COMMENTS WERE RECEIVED, DOCUMENTED AND SENT TO THEIR APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT". THEY NEED TO HAVE A RECALL ON THIS AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AT ALL WITH NO POWER STEERING I AM FORTUNATE IT DID NOT LOCK UP ON ME. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME SUBMIT THIS, I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT'S HAD THIS PROBLEM.
PRIOR FORD RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE MY MODEL AND YEAR BUT EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUES AS NOTED IN RECALL #16S46 AND DEALER WILL NOT COVER EXPENSES. THE TURBOCHARGER OIL SUPPLY LINES MAY NOT BE BRAZED PROPERLY, RESULTING IN AN ENGINE OIL LEAK. OIL SUPPLY LINES TO THE TURBOCHARGER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAY LEAK ENGINE OIL. THIS COULD ALLOW OIL TO LEAK ONTO HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS, CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. OUR RECENT OIL CHANGE, NOT AT FORD, INDICATED THAT THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED AN OIL LEAK THAT IS COMING FROM THE TURBO LINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 8-10 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, BUT FAILED TO INFLATE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, LEG, AND BACK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS PROVIDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
USED 2016 FORD ESCAPE BOUGHT IN 2016 WITH 85000 WHILE DRIVING JUST STOP MOVING. GEARS WERE MOVING BUT NO MOVEMENT IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER DIAGNOSIS AT THE DEALER IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A TRANSMISSION FAULT. WITH ONLY 85000 MILES AND ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD, TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT'S NORMAL OR A SEMI NEW VEHICLE, I BELIEVE FORD VEHICLES ARE BEEN BUILT WITH FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS THAT DON'T LAST LONG.
THE HEATED SEAT MECHANISM STOPPED WORKING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. A BURN MARK APPEARED ON THE BACK PORTION OF THE SEAT. ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE IN TOOK THE CAR FOR SEAT REPAIR, THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WHICH CAUSED THE BURN. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE BUT LUCKILY IT WAS NOTICED RIGHT AWAY AND WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A COSTLY REPLACEMENT.
Backup camera fails intermittently and unpredictability. Often just a blank blue screen appears, sometimes an error message over a video image appears, and other times the camera works at first but fails after a few seconds. It can work one minute, and the next time the car is shifted into reverse (such as when parallel parking) it may not work (or vice-versa). OBDII fault codes indicate a possible communications/electrical issue. Online reports reveal that there are scores of other owners of model year 2014-2019 Ford Escapes with the same or similar issues with their back-up cameras (one mentioned having theirs replaced at least _4 times_ while the car was still in its warranty period). No other warning lamps are available. The alert text that (only sometimes) appears on the display screen when the camera fails is non-specific (e.g. “Camera not available.”). This has been occurring for at least the last 3 or 4 years. For all intents and purposes, since this fault is so unpredictable, I can no longer consider this car to possess a back-up camera. Safety: while I have never had a serious, another driver could easily fail to see and possibly collide with property or individuals while reversing (especially when the camera image disappears in the middle of an in-progress reversing operation). I am more than happy to make my vehicle available for inspection upon request. Ford has issued a recall for the seemingly identical issue for 2020 model year vehicles, but not for my 2016 Ford Escape (nor, to my knowledge, many other model years using an identical camera and display design).
MY 2016 FORD ESCAPE CAUGHT FIRE ON 12/24/2018. THE CAR WAS SITTING IN AN OPEN PARKING SPACE AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE THE AFTERNOON THE DAY BEFORE. NOTE THE ENGINE WAS COLD WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON ON 12/24/2018, MY HUSBAND WAS WALKING OUT TO OUR FORD ESCAPE WHEN HE NOTICED SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ESCAPE. WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE CAR, WITNESSES SAID THE ESCAPE HAD STARTED SMOKING ON ITS OWN AND THEY HAD HEARD NOISES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. ACCORDING TO THE FIRE REPORT COMPLETED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DETERMINED TO BE MALFUNCTIONING ELECTRICAL. WE OF COURSE SPOKE TO THE KEN GRODY FORD WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY TOLD US BECAUSE THIS WAS A FIRE, IT HAS TO GO THROUGH THE FORD GENERAL COUNSEL. WE FILE THE CLAIM WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF FORD. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE GENERAL COUNSEL WOULD RESPOND WITHIN 15 DAYS. THAT TIME FRAME HAS COME AND GONE. WE HAVE COMPLAINT MANY TIMES TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. HOWEVER, FORD HAS FAILED TO RESPOND TO US. AAA HAS TOWED THE CAR TO A SECURE SITE AS THE CAR WAS A HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE WHERE IT WAS SITTING. AAA HAS BEEN TRYING TO GET FORD TO COME AND INSPECT THE CAR SO THAT THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE FIRE CAN BE DETERMINED. BUT FORD WILL NOT RESPOND TO THEM EITHER. WHAT IS MOST DISTURBING TO ME AND SHOULD BE DISTURBING TO EVERYONE, IS FORD'S LACK OF CONCERN AS TO WHAT CAUSED THIS FIRE. HAD THE FIRE STARTED FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE CAR. NOT ONLY WOULD MY FAMILY HAD BEEN IN HARMS WAY BUT SO WOULD OF THE OTHERS AROUND US. THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE PARKED IN A GARAGE. FORD NEEDS TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, she smelled an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed but no failures were found. The contact's son used the OBD reader and Ford computer system to diagnose that the fuel line originating from the engine to the fuel tank appeared to be clogged. The contact's son diagnosed that the purge valve Evap System had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed by the dealer, and it would then be determined whether they could assist with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FWY MI CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING I PULLED OVER AND MY CAR TURNED OFF. I HAD A QUARTER TANK OF GAS LEFT ONCE I TRIED TO TURN IT ON IT WOULD NOT LET ME. I HAD TO CALL A TOW. I NOW HAD A CHECK ENGINE SIGN ON. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW PURGE CANISTER VALVE. BUT THAT DOESNT EXPLAIN WHY IT DID NOT WARN ME ON THE FWY THAT I NEEDED GAS .
I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD ON 11-24-18, ON MY WAY HOME WHEN I HEAR A VIBRATING NOISE. I THINK IT IS MY PHONE, BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STALLS. THANKFULLY I HAD NO CARS BEHIND ME SO I POWER IT DOWN AND THEN TUNE IT BACK ON AND IT GIVES A LITTLE ISSUE TURNING BACK ON BUT DOES. I MAKE IT HOME. IT WORKS FINE THE NEXT FEW DAYS. ON 11-27-18 AFTER ONLY DRIVING LOCALLY IN BETWEEN I TAKE MY FORD ON THE HIGHWAY TO GO TO THE AIRPORT 30 MINS AWAY AND ALL IS FINE UNTIL THE RIDE BACK HOME ON THE HIGHWAY. I HEAR THE VIBRATING NOISE AGAIN AS IF I WAS GOING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS ON 95. THE CAR GOES ON A LITTLE LONGER AND THEN SHUTS DOWN AGAIN. POWER REMAINS ON BUT THE CAR STALLS. I AM TAKING IT IN TODAY. I HOPE TO GET THIS RESOLVED AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. I BOUGHT A NEW CAR FOR A REASON. RELIABILITY AND NOW I AM JUST ANNOYED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING WITH ONLY 32K MILES ON THE 2016 ESCAPE.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the transmission would not operate in the reverse position. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the shaft lock cable assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously repaired for the same failure in 2018. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000
ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW MESSAGE APPEARS ON DASH WHILE DRIVING, AND NO HILL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE, TOOK IT HAVE SERVICE WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, BROUGHT CAR IN 2016 WITH AN 150 MILES ON IT, NOW HAVE 18,553 MILES AS OF TODAY.
ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW MESSAGE REPEATEDLY SHOW UP WHILE DRIVING, TOOK IT TO HAVE SERVICED, WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, AND THE MESSAGE NO HILL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE SHOWS UP AS WELL, BOUGHT CAR IN 2016, HAS 18,553, MILES ON IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE SUN ROOF EXPLODED WITH A LOUD NOISE. GLASS ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A LARGE HOLE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE GLASS WAS REMOVED FROM THE SUN ROOF AREA BY A GLASS REPAIR FACILITY WHO ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT GLASS. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR THE SUN ROOF REPLACEMENT PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
APIM Malfunction; 2016 Ford Escape. The vehicle’s APIM is encountering issues that are causing the SYNC system, voice command, GPS, radio, Bluetooth, audio control, USB, HVAC, and rearview camera features of the vehicle to be impaired and/or fail completely.
CAR LOSES THROTTLE RESPONSE RANDOMLY. LUCKILY I'VE HAD SOMEWHERE TO GET OFF ROAD EVERYTIME ON HIGHWAY. WHEN SEARCHING CODE FOUND OUT THERE WAS A FIELD SERVICE ACTION TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED. THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE NOW.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A TOWN CENTER PARKING LOT, AND I WENT IN TO A RESTAURANT TO HAVE DINNER. AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES, SEVERAL PEOPLE CAME RUNNING IN TO ADVISE THAT A GREY FORD WAS ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT. I HAVE A SILVER 2016 FORD ESCAPE, SO I WENT OUT TO SEE IF I NEEDED TO MOVE MY CAR, AND TO MY SURPRISE REALIZED THAT IT WAS MY CAR ON FIRE. THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS IN FLAMES ... AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED SHORTLY THEREAFTER TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE VEHICLE APPEARS TOTALED AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS TOWED IT AWAY. THE ENGINE WAS A 1.6L TURBOCHARGED MODEL ... AND ON CHECKING ON THE INTERNET, THERE APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE ENGINE FIRES WITH THIS MODEL ENGINE. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF NOTIFICATION FROM FORD MOTORS, AND THE VEHICLE RAN TOTALLY FINE UNTIL THE FIRE, WITH NO COOLANT LEAKS, OR ENGINE OVERHEATING.
WHEN STARTING THE CAR AN ALERT POPPED UP STATING "STEERING ASSIST FAILURE". THE STEERING WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE. TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING THE MESSAGE CLEARED. THE CAR HAS ONLY 27100 MILES. FORD STATES THAT THE STEERING GEAR HAS FAILED. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE MOVING IT COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS

While driving approximately 1-5 mph the vehicle shuts off and and will not move when the gas peddle is pressed. The vehicle engine light comes on. Vehicle operator has to press the power button in order to shut off the car, put the car in park, and press the power button to turn the car back on. Vehicle then works as intended.

PRE-MATURE WEAR OF REAR BRAKE ROTORS. AFTER 34,000 MILES, SQUEAKING BRAKES DEVELOPED. UPON INSPECTION, BOTH REAR BRAKE ROTORS ARE SEVERELY SCORED WHILE FRONT ROTORS SHOW NO WEAR (SMOOTH IN APPEARANCE). REAR BRAKE PADS ARE STILL AT 8MM THICKNESS. REAR ROTORS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN NEAR FUTURE AT OUR EXPENSE.
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY - THE CAR STALLED OUT ON THE FREEWAY. PRIOR TO STALLING, THE CAR WAS SHAKING AND THEN STALLED.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN I25 IN COLORADO. IT WAS 75 WITH CLEAR SKIES WITH NO CARS AROUND ME. SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOT GUN WENT OFF IN MY VEHICLE. WE SOON REALIZED MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. NOTHING HIT IT. IT JUST EXPLODED. WE LATER FOUND OUT THIS IS FAIRLY COMMON. THANKFULLY WE HAD THE SHADE PULLED CLOSED SO NO ONE WAS INJURED.

WHEN SHUT DOWN FOR 10 MINUTES IT WOULD TRAVEL ABOUT 20 MILES BEFORE HAVING ISSUES ONCE AGAIN. FOUND OUT WHEN THE FUEL HAS UNDER A HALF A TANK THE PROBLEM BECOMES MORE FREQUENT. THIS TIME THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL BUT IT STARTED ACTING UP.
THE ESCAPE HAS INCIDENTS WHERE ALL ELECTRICAL POWER STOPS. ALL LIGHTS, IGNITION SYSTEM, EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL STOPS WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEED, SOMETIMES AT VERY LOW SPEED, SOMETIMES WHEN TURNING, OR GOING STRAIGHT. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP AND PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK THE VEHICLE THEN STARTS AGAIN. AFTER REPEATED TRIPS TO CANBY FORD, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG, AND THE CAR HAS NOT RECORDED ANY CODE INDICATING A PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED ONCE ON A LOCAL FREEWAY AT RUSH HOUR WHICH TERRIFIED MY WIFE. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED WHILE PARKED AND RUNNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES. THE BELOW DATE IS JUST THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT.
VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN DRIVING, I STOPPED, TURNED CAR OFF, AND AFTER 5 MINUTES TURNED CAR BACK ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED ON, CAR WAS STATIONARY AND A MEMO FLASHED ON DASHBOARD INDICATING 'AUTOMATIC STEERING FAILURE'. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE I NOTED THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND WOULDN'T MOVE OUT OF ITS STATIONARY POSITION. CAR WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC POWER STEERING RACK FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
I PURCHASED A 2016 FORD ESCAPE IN LATE 2015 AND IN 2018 WITH 30000 MILES THE ENGINE LET GO, REQUIRING A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. ADDITIONAL, ISSUES DEVELOPED AS THE VEHICLE WOULD BE DELAYED FOR A MONTH AND WAS DRIVEN BY AN UNDERAGE DRIVER. THUS NO ONE WOULD PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR FOR HER TO LEAVE THE STATE. THE ONLY OPTION GIVEN WAS TO TRADE A VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. DURING THIS PROCESS WE LEARNED THAT THE STATE WOULD REQUIRE TITLE CHANGES REQUIRING BRANDING FOR INCORRECT MILEAGE. WE HAVE SINCE IDENTIFIED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND SOLD FOR MORE THAN FORD ALLOWED ON THE TRADE. SECONDARILY IT DOES NOT APPEAR THE TITLE WAS PROPERLY BRANDED. WHEN CONTACTING FORD EXECUTIVES IN WRITING (CERTIFIED MAIL) I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS FOR RESOLUTION. UPON CALLING THEIR COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO OPEN CASE WHEN ASKED IF ONE COULD BE OPENED, I WAS TOLD "YOU ARE THE OWNER AND THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO FOR YOU". WITH MUCH PERSEVERANCE AND SHARING KNOWLEDGE REGARDING CURRENT RECALLS; FOR THE VERY PROBLEM WE EXPERIENCED A CASE NUMBER WAS PROVIDED; BUT WOULD NOT GRANT A TIMELINE FOR FUTURE EXPECTATIONS. THIS THE SAME ENGINE AS IN THE FORD FOCUS WHICH IS CURRENTLY UNDER A MASSIVE RECALL. THE VEHICLE SOUNDS STARTED WHILE IN MOTION, BUT THE ENGINE BLEW UP WHILE IN THE SHOP UNDER A DEFINED DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT FORD WAS RUNNING PER THERE RECALL PROGRAM BULLETIN.

BUT NOW THE POWER TRAIN COMPONENTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED BEFORE IT BREAKS COMPLETELY. I CAN FEEL THE VIBRATION WITH MY FEET ON THE FLOORBOARD. NOW IT'S REALLY LOUD AND I'VE ONLY HAD IT 5 MONTHS. IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE WITHOUT FIXING THE CAR ITSELF WILL FAIL. POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I STILL HAVE 13000 PLUS TO PAY ON A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. NOT INCLUDING THE PHENOMENAL COST TO REPLACE. THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. CAN PROVIDE ESTIMATEDS FOR REPAIR. NOT EVEN SURE IT'S WORTH KEEPING. THERE WILL BE A CRAS IF I DON'T FIX IT OR CONTINUE TO DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE, THE LUG NUT WRENCH FAILED TO RELEASE THE LUG NUTS BECAUSE IT WAS TOO SMALL TO FIT OVER THE LUG NUTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EQUIPMENT WAS THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS ABLE TO ASSIST IN REMOVING THE LUG NUTS AND CHANGED THE TIRE; HOWEVER, THEY HAD DIFFICULTY WITH THE LUG NUTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GRAPEVINE FORD (801 E TX-114, GRAPEVINE, TX 76051), BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE DETAILS OF THE WRENCH WERE UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,450. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

BROUGHT IN TO FORD AFTER ABOUT 1 YEAR. THEY SANDED THE SURFACE OF THE PADS, ROTORS. PROBLEM CEASED FOR A LITTLE OVER 8 MONTHS. PROBLEM RETURNED AND NOT BROUGHT IN UNTIL INCESSANT LIKE BEFORE. THIS TIME, NOTHING WAS DONE. WAS TOLD WITH NO ABNORMAL SIGNS, THIS WAS NORMAL. VIN CHECK RETURNS NO RECALLS.
WHILE TRAVELING VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND BEGIN TO SHUT OFF. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT WHERE IT WOULD NOT START. WE HAD TO LET IT SIT FOR 10 MINUTES TO RESTART BACK UP FOR ANOTHER 20 MILES OF TRAVEL.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND IT STARTING SHUTTING OFF. CAME TO A POINT WHERE IT HAD TO BE SHUT OFF FOR 10 MINUTES TO TRAVEL ANOTHER 20 MILES BEFORE REOCCURRING.
WE FREQUENTLY DRIVE FROM MIDWAY, UT TO SALT LAKE CITY, UT ON I-80 WHERE THE HIGHWAY GOES THROUGH PARLEY'S CANYON AND EXPERIENCES 6-7% GRADES. WE WERE DRIVING HOME IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF I-80 WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR LOST SPEED FROM 70 MPH TO 40 MPH. WE TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO NO AVAIL. WE MOVED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND EXITED THE HIGHWAY. THE MESSAGE THAT DISPLAYED LISTED ENGINE OVERHEATING AS THE ISSUE BUT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED NORMAL TEMPERATURE. WE CONTACTED OUR FORD DEALER ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND LEARNED THAT THERE IS A SENSOR ON THIS CAR THE DETECTS POSSIBLE ENGINE OVERHEATING AND AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES YOUR SPEED. WE WROTE TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF WHAT WE BELIEVE IS POTENTIALLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHILE THIS MAY BE THE DESIGN POINT OF THE SENSOR, IT IS CERTAINLY DANGEROUS FOR DRIVERS, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, TO HAVE THE CAR LOOSE SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO EXIT THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT INCIDENT. FORD WROTE BACK TO US AND INFORMED US THAT THIS SENSOR IS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND TO ALLOW US TIME TO GET TO A SERVICE FACILITY. WHILE WE APPRECIATE THE VAST ARRAY OF TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENTS NOW AVAILABLE THAT PROVIDE THE PUBLIC SMARTER AND SAFER VEHICLES, TAKING THIS KIND OF CONTROL AWAY FROM A DRIVER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITHOUT ANY WARNING BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE IS QUITE UNSAFE. OBVIOUSLY THE SENSOR IS NOT SENSING THE DRIVER'S SITUATION OR LOCATION WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOOSES SPEED. FORD HAS FURTHER SUGGESTED THAT WE SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE ON FORD SOCIAL WHERE WE CAN POST QUESTIONS FOR FORD'S ENGINEERS AND DESIGN TEAM. IS THE NHTSA AWARE OF THIS ISSUE? IF SO, WHAT IS THEIR OPINION ABOUT THIS TECHNOLOGY? ARE WE OVERREACTING?
