Driver's door hinge limit opening check-arm mechanism failure. First awareness when popping noise occurred when opening and closing the door. Internet search found this and related hinge failure experiences by many other Escape owners. The factory welds attaching the mechanism housing to the interior of the door body are failing. Ford has not made a recall. While this is a primary vehicle function, our car is slightly out of warranty and the Indianapolis Skillman Ford dealer offered no help after presenting the vehicle in-person as soon as the problem occurred. Our check arm has not completely failed. Complete failure reports include interference with power window operation and inability to safely open and close the door. We contacted Ford Motor Company direct; the person on the phone checked and said there was no recall and no assistance due to our vehicle being past warranty but they did create a case#: SSM 51553.
The driver's side door makes a popping/cracking noise when opening. Check arm/hinge seems to have failed and the door is not only making noise but the door assembly is pulling apart. The window now does not go all the way down. The vehicle is available for inspection. The door does not properly open or close properly and at times has to be double checked when in the vehicle to make sure it is closed all the way. This is not safe for travel. The vehicle was brought to the dealership and they said they would have to take it to the body shop in order to inspect it. Estimate of charges for repairs is $3,000 - repair would require a new door (both panels), hinges, and paint along with labor. There were zero warnings prior to the failure. The door just makes noise (popping or cracking) when opening and closing.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the front driver side door latch detached from the vehicle making it difficult to properly close the door. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the front driver’s side door to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
The driver side door brake isn't working properly due to broken welds in the assembly. I took it to my Ford dealer, and they will not give warranty consideration because the vehicle is over 36,000 miles, but under 3 years. I have done some research, and this is an ongoing problem with this model year. Their solution is to have me pay for an entire new door and assembly at a cost of between $2500-$3500.
When opening and shutting the drivers door it makes a terrible popping noise and is hard to shut.
Awd module failed Problem confirmed by dealer Ford previously had a recall for this exact problem. That recall should not have expired as the problem is still ongoing.
Door mechanical issue could become a future safety issue where failed/poor spot welds on a doors check arm bracket could cause the door to swing too far when opened or it could open while driving because of the spot weld failure. Current popping sound when opening and closing the door indicates spot welds on the check arm bracket, internal to the door, have failed, making the door difficult to open and close. A secondary failure is the inability to open and close the window.
My check arm broke at the welding sites and has now affected my locks, window, and the door staying open/shut. I am worried about my window shattering and my door not closing or opening while I am driving. My locks are no longer working which leaves me to be worried about someone getting into my car, since there is not way for me to lock my door. They don’t even work with the key fob. The outside manual lock will not turn. The problem was confirmed by the dealership Ken Stoepel Ford In Kerrville, TX. But they will not fix it because it is out of warranty due to mileage. There was no warning of this. I was parked when it happened. I simply opened my door to get in and it snapped.
Drivers side check arm broke resulting in 3 rivet joints to break where it’s attached to the inside door skin. SSM 50150 for fleet vehicles addresses this. This was purchased from Enterprise. Was told a new door skin was required along with the check arm replacement. Over $1200. This should be a recall.
Driver door door check tore loose bent window track.cant put windows down all the way, sometimes door does not want to close.ford wants 12-1500 to fix there flaw
The drivers door when opening looks like it’s going to rip off at the hinges.
The door started popping when it was opened and closed. After one day the weld completely busted loose and the window no longer rolls down either.
I am reporting a weld malfunction on the driver's side door for the check arm assembly. I started to hear a log poping noise out of the blue one day. And the next thing i knew the door was not opening properly. Took it in they informed me the weld had broken and that i would need a brand new door. I unfortunately am no longer under warranty. And feel this should be a recall, given it is a manufaturers error.
Recall 22n17 needs to include the gear knob for the chrome peeling. It cut my finger and thumb.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while opening the driver’s side door, there was an abnormal popping sound and the door failed to open. Additionally, the window failed to roll down as designed. The contact had to use the other doors to enter the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the bracket had separated from the door. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: PE23013 (Structure). The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Broken spot welds in the left front door at the check arm attachment point in the door assembly. Window not operable. Door difficult to close due to interference of broken bracket inside door assembly. This is a known issue for make/model. Poor quality spot welds at point of attachment.
Service engine soon light is on due to the injector problem that has been recalled, but has not been fixed yet, because the dealer has not received the parts yet. Service engine soon light is also throwing a code for the catylitic converter and it’s causing the vehicle to run and shift poorly and getting worse fuel economy because of this issue. I have always bought Fords and I’m very dissatisfied with the problems I’ve encountered since I’ve purchased this vehicle. I think these issues need to be addressed and fixed ASAP, because this could potentially lead to a fire under the hood or underneath. Toni Ann
After experiencing cracking and popping noises I took car to dealer and was told the welds on driver door are cracked. The window will not roll down. The door swings open and I fear it will brake off. Occurred at 34000 but 6 months after warranty ended. Over $2500 to repair and was told no recall and it is a common problem. Long wait for doors due to so many customers needing doors replaced.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the rivets on the driver's side door detached, causing the door not to function properly. Additionally, the window on the driver's side door failed to roll down. The vehicle was taken to a collision repair center, where the contact was informed that the driver's side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
My driver's side front door has started to make a large popping noise and is resisting opening/shutting. A few days after this started my window has also started to act up, not wanting to go all the way down or going down when I'm trying to get it to go up.
My car is displaying similar symptom found on a fleet version of the car - SSM 50150 - 2020-2021 Escape - Cracked Or Broken Spot Welds In The Left Front Door At The Check Arm Attachment Points In The Door Assembly.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while attempting to exit the vehicle from the driver's side, the door made an abnormal sound and was difficult to open. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined a structural failure of the door well. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 56,000.
Warped Instrument Panel Upper Section – 2020 Ford Escape This should be covered by the manufacturer!!!!!
My driver side door began to make a popping sound and was hard to open and shut. Now it feels like the door will fall off or open while driving and has caused the window to no longer roll down. The Ford dealership (Bob Tomes) has acknowledged the problem and the same problem with other same year models but will not take care of the issue unless I pay full price out of pocket.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated the front driver's side door failed to close securely. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the door check needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
At a little over 4,000 miles and less then a year in to owning my car the transmission went out. Now at at little over 36,000 and now the driver door isn't opening easily, and is making a popping noise. This shouldn't be happening with a car this new
The welds on my door snapped, which is causing a grinding noise and preventing the window from opening. The dealership has told me that I need a new door for my vehicle. My vehicle has less than 30,000 miles.
Spot Welds at door check are starting to crack/fail making a intermittent snapping noise. This is on both front doors. There are 6 spot welds holding bracket on. At this time the ones behind the check on the door is failing putting stress on the other spot welds. Dealer said it out of 36 month warranty so, I would need to pay myself when it completely fails.
Lt door is very hard to close, does not open properly. Lt door check arm weld broke.
Door hinge broke and caused window motor to fail
The lift gate won't open. The "enable" and "disable" options on the vehicle screen are greyed out.
On 7/11/2023, I opened my driver's side door and heard some strange popping sounds I had not heard before, my window would not work correctly either. I got into my Ford 2020 Escape and proceeded to drive home while driving approx 35 miles an hour while making a left turn the driver's side door flew open. The weld on the driver's side door has failed along it exhibits cracks and/or broken spot welds in the left front door at the check arm attachment point in the door assembly. Please see attached photos. There was no warning that the door was not completely shut. The car has been looked at, at the dealership and they have assessed that the failure of the weld Section 501-03 is what caused the problem.
Driver door - one day, without prior warning, when opening or closing the door, it makes a popping sound as if a hing of some sort is broken. The door does not remain in an open position when getting in our out. Consequently, the drive window only opens about 2 inches.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated there was a clicking sound while opening and closing the front driver's side door. The contact stated that the front driver's side window failed to roll down completely. The contact stated that eventually the front driver's side door failed to close as needed. Upon inspection it was discovered that the front driver's side door middle weld had separated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who indicated that the door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 11,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the check arm attachment points were fractured on the front driver's side door. The front driver's side door made an abnormally loud sound while being opened. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer confirmed that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.
The inside wheel boot fills with water and boot liner gets moldy causing breathing issues. It is apparently a known issue and Ford has no resolution. I also have a driver's side window that has issues since the day I bought and all the Ford dealership quick fixes has not resolved the issue. They reset the up/down of the windows and it keeps going out of alignment so that when then window is pushed up it overshoots the sensor and comes back down.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated the welds fractured on the front driver’s side door. The contact stated that the front driver’s side door and window failed to close properly. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,800.
The front left drivers door check guide bracket spot welds have separated from the door frame resulting in the door not opening and closing properly, the window will not roll down or up with the door closed .The door can only open about half way and doesn't shut properly without using unexcusable force .The spot-welds are clearly broken because there are 3 holes in the door where the door check mounting bracket is spot welded to the door shell .If I need to get in or out of the vehicle very fast in an emergency, the door may not open enough for me to get in or out or may not even open at all.If I need to roll down the window with the door shut in an emergency situation I will not be able to,I would have to break the window to escape danger.Ford needs to be responsible for fixing this problem that is clearly a manufacturing defect .A recall by Ford is due immediately to fix this dangerous issue.
Drivers door started popping when opening. I understand this is common with this model. A Ford service tech said it only happens to Escapes. Ford won’t repair past 36000 miles
The driver door creaks and wines like it is going to fall off or break off when you open it The passenger side door is also starting to do this. I took it to a dealership who told me to go to a auto body shop. They told me it should be a recall and do not pay for the repairs.
last year in the summer of 2023 I first experienced my 2020 Ford Escape not being able to shift from park to reverse, neutral, or drive. It was a very hot day and my car had sat idle for 8 hours in the sun while I was working. I got into my vehicle and started the car. I tried to turn the dial type shifter to drive and it was locked. I immediately looked online on my phone to see if this was something like turning the wheel one way and then the other and it would unlock. I found some people said to press on the brake and release because maybe it had not completely disengaged when the vehicle was turned off, but that did not work. I then found something else that said to to engage the parking brake and then disengage, that did not work either. Now while stuck in the parking lot alone since all have left and I could not move, a client of the agency I work at, starts banging on my window and screaming at me. Luckily security was still inside and came out to assist me, but it could have gotten ugly because my car that is now only 4 years old, but was 3 years old then, won't function properly. I called the Ford Dealership I deal with, and they tell me that they have never heard of this problem. All the while I am sitting in the car now with the AC on, because it is so hot, and now my car shifts into gear when I try after 10-20 minutes. I found a forum where many people have had this issue and yet, Ford still tells me they have no idea what this is. Now this summer 2024 I have had this issue multiple days in row when it is hot and my car has sat for hours. I again called my local dealership and they still say that they have never heard of this issue and told me to have my car towed to the service center. And yet here is this [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
A week and a half ago, as I opened my driver's side door on my 2020 Ford Escape, i heard a clunking and popping sound. As I examined closer, I noticed that the door hinge limiter was rattling and the hinge pin was moving, along with the sound. I took it to my nearest Ford dealer to get it investigated (Academy Ford, Laurel MD) and they determined that indeed, the welds for the door hinge had broken, ad that the broken part was bumping up against the window regulator, thus the sounds. There was a TSB for this from Ford, covering the same thing, for commercial trucks, but they had also seen this start to happen on Ford Escapes as well. Because I'm still under bumper-to-bumper warranty, my door will be replaced for free, but this car only has 18K miles on it, and it shouldn't be happening at all.
While opening and closing left front door (driver door) making a popping noise which is now making it difficult to close and open the door. This opposes a safety if I’m not able to open my door when needed. This has started a few days ago so I have not contacted dealership and confirmed with them but I have watched a few YouTube videos regarding others having the same problem and concern. There were no warning lights/lamps present and no prior problems before this occurred.
Driver door detached from body by normal opening the door. The window is unable to lower down and the door is unable to be opened and closed. It seemed the door was attached by three small welded spots which seemed unsecured due to the doors natural weight.
My compressor went out during a road trip and it spread metal particles through the entire AC system, ruining basically the whole thing. My concern is the sheer number of ford escapes that seem to be having issues with their compressors. So many that the part is on back order almost everywhere. I think it’s worth looking into that Ford may need to recall this part.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that he noticed six holes and one large crack located on the front driver’s side door. The contact then stated that the weld hinges had also cracked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the top center hinge had fractured from the spot weld and needed to be replaced. The contact was then advised to take the vehicle to an auto repair shop for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 47,767.
Some 2020-2021 Escape vehicles may exhibit cracks or broken spot welds in the left front door at the check arm attachment point in the door assembly. My door started making a lot of noise when opening it and closing it. Now I can only open my door to a certain degree and and cannot open it all of the way. My window now is not working properly so I can't open it without it getting stuck halfway down. Is very hard to close the window.
The center hinge connecting the driver's side door to the car has become disconnected as if it is no longer welded to the car door. This hinge limits how far the door can swing open. The concern is the door being unable to close completely and the window mechanism not working properly. The problem was first noticed on July 5 as there was a clicking sound as the door was opened as well as some resistance. People at three different dealerships noted that "this is a problem that has been occurring." The third Ford dealership is willing to do the work. Here the problem was documented and is scheduled to be repaired on July 24. A new door will need to be ordered and replaced. The service manager warned me of two complications that could possibly occur because of the broken hinge. Since July 5 I have been exiting and entering my three year old car through the passenger side since I cannot risk not being able to close the door. I also am careful not to open the window as it may come off of its track.
We noticed a loud "popping" sound in the hinge of the driver side front door. The door was unstable and we had trouble shutting the door. After research we realized this could be a problem that could cause the door to open while driving. The car is at a Ford Dealer being repaired now and the cost to me is $1157. Ford is not taking care of this dangerous situation.
My drivers side door makes a creaking noise and window doesn’t roll down
