WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT CITY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG. *TR
ON AUGUST 15TH I DROVE MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION TO GET A HAIRCUT IN THE MORNING. THEN ON THE WAY BACK I STOPPED AT LITTLE CEASERS PIZZA FOR MY KIDS. SOON AFTER THAT I CAME HOME AND PARKED MY 2001 EXCURSION IN MY BACK YARD. ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES LATER I CHECK ON MY KIDS AND I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF MY EXCURSION. SOON AFTER THAT I SAW FIRE AND THE WHOLE EXCURSION WAS UP IN FLAMES. MY CAR WAS PARKED AND LOCKED THERER WAS NO FIRE OR SMOKE WHEN I LOCKED THE VEHICLE AND CAME IN THE HOUSE. THE VEHICLE IS TOTALED. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE ON THURSDAY OF LAST WEEK BUT THE NOTICE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY IT JUST SAID CALL YOUR LOCAL FORD DEALER WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE TO HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF. THEY NEVER SAID YOUR TRUCK CAN CATCH ON FIRE AND MAYBE BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN. *JB
CAM POSITION SENSOR FAILURE ON 2001 FORD EXCURSION WITH 7.3L TURBO DIESEL FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 2 YEARS. HAVE REPLACE THE PART TWICE BEFORE AT A PARTS COST OF $195.00. FORD CAME OUT WITH A NEW PART NUMBER AND NOW IT COSTS $30 BUT THEY CANT GET THEM IN. *TR
CPS, CAM POSITION SENSOR, FAILED IN TRAFFIC. INTERMITTENT HICCUP WHILE DRIVING, STOPPED IN TRAFFIC FACING DOWNHILL TRUCK DIED. RE-STARTED AND CONTINUED WITH INTERMITTENT STOP/START FOR SEVERAL MORE MILES. REPLACE WITH NEW. NO MORE PROBLEMS.*JB
VEHICLE STALLS WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THERE'S NO CONSISTENT SITUATION I HAVE NOTICED, HAS STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AS WELL AS AT A STOP LIGHT. THE PROBLEM WAS RATHER SPORADIC WHEN I FIRST NOTICED SOME TIME AGO, BUT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT.*AK I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED ANY REPAIRS YET.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE 01 FORD EXCURSION BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY LOSING POWER. AS I BEGAN TO PULL OF THE ROAD THE ENGINE DIED COMPLETELY AND WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER LEAVING THE TRUCK TO SIT FOR 8 HOURS, I WENT BACK AND IT STARTED UP FINE. MY MECHANIC SAID NO ERROR CODES WERE SHOWING ON THE ECM. AFTER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET,I FIGURED OUT IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND HAD IT REPLACED. NO MORE PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. APPARENTLY THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE. THERE ARE ENTIRE MESSAGE BOARDS FILLED WITH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.*AK
FACTORY PAINT PEELING. STARTED ON HOOD AND DOOR JAMBS, NOW ON ROOF. I CANNOT BELIEVE A GOVERNMENT AGENCY WOULD ALLOW PAINT TO PEEL AND CONTAMINATE IN THE ENVIRONMENT. *TR
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF ENGINE. POSSIBLE DEFECT IN CASTING..?? WAS TOLD THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON BUT FORD REFUSED TO COVER THEIR KNOWN DEFECT. COST ME OVER $6,000 TO REPLACE ENGINE. *TR
VEHICLE HAS A VIBRATION ABOVE 45 MPH UP TO 55 MPH. NOT SURE IF THE VIBRATION IS COMING FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT OR NOT BUT IT HAS A DISTINCT VIBRATION. *JB
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF ENGINE. POSSIBLE DEFECT IN CASTING..?? WAS TOLD THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON BUT FORD REFUSED TO COVER THEIR KNOWN DEFECT. COST ME OVER $5,000 TO REPLACE ENGINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION ZONE ON A TWO LANE ROAD WITH CONCRETE BARRIERS, MY FORD TRUCK EQUIPPED WITH A 7.3L POWERSTROKE DIESEL ENGINE, SUDDENLY QUIT, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO COAST TO A STOP WITH NO ENGINE POWER. LUCKILY, I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO TAKE A OFF-RAMP AND GET OFF THE ROAD. BUT THIS SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE CAM POSITION SENSOR OR CPS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FAILURE OF THIS PART IS COMMON ON POWERSTROKES AND IT SHUTS OFF ALL FUEL TO THE ENGINE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION WITH 82,000 MILES, BLEW A SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE CYLINDER. THE DEALER STATES THAT THE ALUMINUM HEAD FAILED AND THAT THERE ARE NO THREADS LEFT IN THE HOLE. THEY ALSO STATE THAT THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE THE HEAD AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED FROM FORD. *NM
2001 FORD EXCURSION: ACCELERATED AFTER TURNING A CORNER AND A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. HAD BEEN HIGHWAY DRIVING FOR 60 MILES PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE ENGINE STILL RAN BUT DID NOT RUN SMOOTHLY. THE THREADS WERE DAMAGED AND A NEW PLUG COULD NOT BE INSERTED. THE HEAD IS BEING REPLACED WITH A NEW HEAD FROM THE DEALER AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $3800. NM
I HAVE A 2001 EXCURSION AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT POPS FREE BY IT'S SELF SEVERAL TIMES DURING A COUPLE OF HOURS OF DRIVING. DEALER SAID IT WASN'T COVERED. I ALSO HAD THE WINDOWS & DOOR LOCKS STOP WORKING BACK IN 2006. IT NEEDED A NEW GEM MODULE AND SOME FUSE PANEL WORK (DUE TO A LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD SEAL FROM THE FACTORY). I FINALLY SAVED UP ENOUGH MONEY TO GET EVERYTHING FIXED-- ROUGHLY $1100.00. THE REP. FROM THE WINDOW COMPANY SAID HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL LIKE THIS HIMSELF. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE SMELL OF SMOKE WAS PRESENT BUT NO OTHER INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED OFF THE ROAD WHERE A FIRE WAS NOTICED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE WAS IMMEDIATELY EXTINGUISHED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND FILED A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CAUSED THE FIRE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
1. I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXCURSION. I HAD FIRESTONE STEELTEX A/T LT 265-75 R16'S ALL THE WAY AROUND MY VEHICLE. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD A BLOW OUT; IT WAS THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. WE GOT OUT LOOKED AT THE TIRE AND THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. THE STEEL IN THE TIRE TORN UP THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND WHEEL WELL AND DID A LOT OF DAMAGE UNDERNEATH AND TO MY GRILL GUARD. WITHIN LESS THAN 50 MILES, MY OTHER FRONT TIRE WENT OUT. BUT WITH THIS ONE THE TREAD WAS PULLING AWAY AND FALLING OFF (AGAIN TEARING UP THE BODY AS IT WENT). THE TIRE NEVER BLEW BUT THE TREAD DID ENOUGH DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK THAT IT WILL HAVE TO BE FIXED ON THAT SIDE ALSO. THE BODY OF MY TRUCK WILL NEED WORK. WHEN I OPEN MY DOORS THEY POP BECAUSE IT IS RUBBING ON THE FRAME THAT HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK. WHEN WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION IT WAS LATE SATURDAY SO WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL SUNDAY (WHICH WAS EASTER SUNDAY AND NOT MANY PLACES WERE OPEN). WE WENT TO SEARS AND HAD NEW TIRES PUT ALL THEY WAY AROUND THE VEHICLE. WE WERE NOT GOING TO TAKE THE CHANCE OF THE BACK ONES SEPARATING ON THE WAY HOME. *JB
2001 FORD EXCURSION SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. *NM
MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION WITH A 7.3-LITER DIESEL ENGINE HAS CUT OUT INTERMITTENTLY. IF I AM TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT WILL CUT OUT BRIEFLY AND THEN RESUME RUNNING. IF ON THE OTHER HAND I AM IDLING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND IT CUTS OUT, IT MUST BE RESTARTED USING THE IGNITION SWITCH. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION GIVEN THERE IS NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES AVAILABLE IN THESE INSTANCES. I NOTICED A REPORT IN MY LOCAL NEWSPAPER TODAY (3/5/06) EXPLAINING THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH OTHER 2001 EXCURSIONS. *JB
OWN 3 FORD VEHICLES. THIS YEAR, 2 OUT OF 3 HAVE HAD BLOWN SPARK PLUGS. E350 WAS REPAIRED AND SEEMS TO BE RUNNING WELL. EXCURSION NOT SO LUCKY AND NOW, IT LOOKS LIKE NEEDS A NEW HEAD. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE ON THIS VEHICLE 51000 WHEN PLUG BLEW. *JB
DRIVING DOWN RURAL ROAD, 60 MPH IN OUR 2001 FORD EXCURSION DIESEL. ENGINE JUST DIED. NO BRAKES, LIMITED STEERING. TURNS OUT TO BE A PART CALLED A CPS (CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR). ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALER THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE AND WHEN THEY FAIL IT IS SUDDEN AND COMPLETE. HAD THIS OCCURRED ANYWHERE THAT WOULD HAVE REQUIRED ME TO MANEUVER AND ALL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BAD. *JB
DRIVING ON LEVEL INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 MPH. HEARD SMALL EXPLOSION SIMILAR TO TIRE BLOWOUT. IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND CHECKED ENGINE. FOUND THAT THE #3 SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. HAD VEHICLE TOWED HOME. NO REPAIRS MADE AT THIS TIME DUE TO HOLIDAYS. *JB
2001 FORD EXCURSION WITH 7.3L POWER STROKE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. ON 11/06/2005 THE ENGINE DIED WITHOUT WARNING WITH MY WIFE DRIVING ALONG A REMOTE COUNTRY ROAD ALONG A RIVER. THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING RESULTED IN A PARTIAL LOSS OF CONTROL THAT CAUSED THE TRUCK TO LEAVE THE PAVEMENT AND NEARLY PLUNGE INTO THE RIVER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE TRUCK RESTARTED, BUT THERE WAS A PROFOUND LOSS OF POWER RENDERING IT UNDRIVEABLE. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED 45 MILES TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER WHERE A SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND WE WERE CHARGED $1000 FOR A TUNE-UP. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US THAT WE SHOULD USE UNLEADED GASOLINE TO AUGMENT THE OCTANE IN THE DIESEL FUEL TO PREVENT A FUTURE FAILURE. ON 3/9/2006, AFTER JUST 3000 MILES, THE TRUCK STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, THIS TIME WHILE TOWING A LOADED HORSE TRAILER AND WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD TWINS IN THE VEHICLE. AGAIN, POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES WERE LOST AND THE TRUCK BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I HALTED THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT WENT FULLY OVER THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AND INTO THE RIVER. HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING IT IS UNLIKELY WE WOULD HAVE SURVIVED. *NM
A PASSERBY KNOCKED ON OUR FRONT DOOR LETTING US KNOW OUR 2001 FORD EXCURSION PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WAS SMOKING. WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND WHILE WAITING FOR THEM, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES TO SHUT OFF ANY POWER TO THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATORS DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE SAME CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT HAS BEEN CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH OTHER MAKES OF FORD TRUCKS AND SUV'S. ALTHOUGH WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FIRE INVESTIGATORS AND FORD PARTS MANAGERS THAT THE MODULE IS THE SAME DESIGN/PART USED IN ALL OF THE OTHER VEHICLES THAT HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE, FORD IS NOT ASSUMING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIRS AND HAS NOT INCLUDED OUR MODEL IN ITS RECALLS. *NM
CONCERNING MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION - VIN NUMBER [XXX], (NOT PART OF RECENT RECALLS BY FORD!). AFTER SHORT TRIP, (25 MILES) DROVE TO LATE EVENING OF THE 16TH OF JULY. PARKED MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HOME IN CENTER OF THE CIRCULAR DRIVE APPROX 4 FT FROM FRONT DOOR. TURNED OFF VEHICLE & WENT INSIDE HOUSE TO BED. AFTER ABOUT 50 MINS, (12:15 AM JULY 17TH) STARTLED BY LOUD SOUND OUTSIDE. I OPENED THE FRONT DOOR OF HOME AND SAW EXCURSION ABLAZE ON DRIVEWAY WHERE I HAD PARKED IT. I WOKE UP FAMILY, (WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN) SENT THEM NEXT DOOR, CALLED 911. QUICKLY RAN OUTSIDE DROVE MY CADILLAC AWAY FROM THE EXCURSION. FLAMES LEAPT 16 TO 20 FEET IN AIR. NEIGHBOR AND I GRABBED WATER HOSES AND ABLE TO CONTAIN TILL THE FIRE DEPT ARRIVED 15 MINUTES LATER. MY FAMILY TRAUMATIZED! THANK GOODNESS WAS NOT PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE FIRE ALSO CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO MY DRIVEWAY. THERE IS NOW A LARGE BLACK AREA OF MELTED MATERIAL FUSED INTO THE CEMENT. OUTSIDE OF HOME LOOKS OKAY..NOT SURE IF ANY INTERNAL STRUCTURES DAMAGED FROM HEAT OF FIRE OR SMOKE. ALSO DAMAGED AND DESTROYED SURROUNDING PLANTS AND SHRUBS. THIS WAS A REAL STRUGGLE TO KEEP FIRE CONTAINED. SOME SMOKE INHALATION AND CONTINUED COUGH SINCE INCIDENT. NATIONWIDE INSURANCE SAID CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH!!. AN INDEPENDENT FORENSIC FIRE INVESTIGATOR FROM ADVANCED INVESTIGATIVE CONCEPTS, (AIC-FIRE ) INVESTIGATED CAUSE OF FIRE EXAMINING EVIDENCE ON JULY 19, 2005. DETERMINED ORIGIN AND CAUSE. FROM THEIR REPORT THEY STATED THAT, "THE FIRE ORIGINATED AT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER LOCATED IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE PORTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH." I AM VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD HAPPEN TO SOMEBODY ELSE ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING RELEASED BY FORD CONCERNING A RECALL FOR THE EXCURSION. THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT & ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH!!!
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD EXCERSION, WITH MY WIFE AND TWO DAUGHTERS, ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THE LEFT REAR FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT TIRE BLEW OUT AS A RESULT OF THE TIRE TRED SEPERATING FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAD 49530 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL AND FENDER WERE DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THE BLOW OUT. ON 06-20-05, FIRESTONE REPLACED FOUR OUT OF THE FIVE TIRES I HAD ON THE VEHICLE AS PART OF A RECALL. THE SPARE TIRE IS ON ODER, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE IT IN STOCK.
CONSUMER GOODYEAR TIRE SEPRARATED WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TS HE CONSUMER HAS HAD TO REPLACED THE VEHICLE GOODYEAR TIRES A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES (AT TOTAL OF 12 TIRES). EACH TIME THE VEHICEL WAS TAKEN TOT HE TIRE DEALER THEY DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. *NM
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD HEARD BIG POP AND LOTS OF NOISE. SPARK PLUG ON #4 CYLINDER BLEW OUT ON V-10 ON 2001 FORD EXCURSION. HAD HELI COIL PUT IN SPARKPLUG HOLE. SPARK PLUG ON #7 CYLINDER BLEW OUT AND HAD HELI COIL PUT IN, BUT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN. WAS TOLD COULD NOT FIX WITH HELI COIL AND HAD TO REPLACE HEAD. *AK
THE 2002 FORD EXCURSION THAT I HAVE BEEN USING FOR TRANSPORTATION HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT IN THE REAR HATCH/REAR DOOR SYSTEM , IF EITHER OF THE TWO BOTTOM DOORS IS SHUT AFTER THE TOP HATCH HAS BEEN LOWERED, THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERS AND THE ENTIRE WINDOW (POBABLY WEIGHING 50-60 LBS.) ABRUPTLY COMES CRASHING TO THE GROUND. THIS HAPPENED TO MYSELF AND TO MY FAMILY MEMBERS WITH VERY LITTLE PRESSURE BEING APPLIED IN SHUTTING THE DOOR. FIRST, THIS DESIGN DEFECT SHOULD NOT EXIST, SECOND THERE SHOULD , AT THE VERY LEAST , BE A VERY VISIBLE WARNING STICKER ON THE WINDOW OR THE DOOR ASSEMBLY TO ADVISE ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE USING IT OF THE SERIOUS POTENTIAL FOR EXTREME BODILY INJURY OR EVEN DEATH IF THIS WINDOW WERE TO FALL ON A CHILD OR ON AN EXTREMITY CAUSING SERIOUS VASCULAR DAMAGE OR EVEN AMPUTATION.THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND CORRECTION BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.
I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXCURSION. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE STEERING STABILIZER IS LOCATED TOO LOW IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. MOST ALL OF FORD'S FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES, DURING THOSE MODEL YEARS, HAVE THE SAME SETUP. IF THE VEHICLE COMES INTO CONTACT WITH A SMALL( OR MEDIUM) SIZED ANIMAL OR ANYTHING LYING IN THE ROAD, THE STABILIZER CAN BECOME BENT AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE STEERED. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXCURSION WITH 52,000 MILES. I WAS 2 BLOCKS FROM HOME WHEN I HEARD THIS LOUD POP, THEN THIS LOUD CLAPPING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM AND HAVE HAD ALL THE REGULAR MAINTENENCE DONE AT. (MORRIE'S BUFFALO FORD, BUFFALO, MN) THE 3RD SPARK PLUG ON THE RH SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLEWOUT, AND TOOK THE CYLINDER HEAD THREADS WITH IT. $3000 TO REPAIR. THE FORD INSPECTOR REFUSED TO ADMIT FAULT ON FORD'S PART, YET THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE PLUG BLOWOUT WAS NO FAULT OF MINE. PURCHASED AN ADDITIONAL $2000 BUMPER TO BUMPER EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WOULDN'T COVER IT EITHER. IT IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP AS I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY PRODUCT AND FIX LIKE THEY SHOULD. I HAVE FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I'VE ALSO BEEN DOING SOME PRETTY HEAVY RESEARCH OVER THE LAST WEEK, AND HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF IDENTICAL INCIDENTS. IT'S ABOUT TIME FORD IS FORCED TO BE RESPONSIBLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING A POWERSTROKE DIESEL FORD TRUCK, THE "CAM POSITION SENSOR" CAN FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. THIS SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF AND YOUR POWER BRAKES AND STEERING. VERY HARD TO CONTROL. THE FORD DEALERS DON'T ALWAYS DIAGNOSE LIKE IN MY CASE I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND IT SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC. I PAID $800.00 FOR A REPAIR I DIDN'T NEED. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS SINCE MARCH AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS THE MOST COMMON PART FAILURE ON THE 7.3 FORD POWERSTROKE DIESEL ENGINE. THE SAME BASIC DESIGN IS USED FROM 1994 TO 2003. *NM
THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR OF THE TIRES ON HIS 2001 FORD EXCURSION PRIOR TO RECEIVING RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE CONSUMER SUBMITTED THE FORM AND RECEIPT FOR REIMBURSEMENT BUT HASN'T HEARD FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *NM *SC *JB
MULTIPLE WARPED ROTORS. FAILED WHEEL BEARING WHICH BY FORD DESIGN ARE NOT SERVICEABLE. DEALER TOLD ME NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, YET CHARGED ME FOR WHT IS A DESIGN FLAW, A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, POSSIBLE LOCK UP. COMMON KNOWLEDGE ON WEB THAT GRESE LEAKES ON TO ROTORS CAUSING SLOW STOPPING, AND WARPING, AND YOU CAN NOT ADD GREASE.
STEELTEX RADIAL BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE TIRES HAS A RECALL BUT THE CONSUMER HAD NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. *BF THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. *SC *JB

FORD EXCURSION 2001 V10 FORD V10 ENGINE OIL COAGULATES DUE TO POOR OIL FLOW AND SEEZES ENGINE. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME HE HAD AT LEAST TEN ON HIS LOT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE ONLY SOLUTION GIVEN IS REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE. AN EXPENSIVE SOLUTION. *AK I HAVE READ MANY TESTOMONIALS ON THE WEB OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME SITUATION. HOPEFULLY I CAN GET SOME HELP WITH A RECALL OR CLASS ACTION SUIT.

WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS A BLOW OUT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S TIRE. AFTER CONTACTING THE TIRE COMPANY THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER THE LEFT DRIVER'S TIRE MELTED FROM THE INSIDE. MANUFACTURER STATED THAT TIRE WAS TOO LARGE, AND HE NEEDED TO DISCUSS IT WITH THE DEALER.*AK
CONSUMER WAS UPSET THAT TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 55,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING AND TOWING A BOAT LOST SECOND GEAR. VEHICLE REVVED HIGH WHEN HE WAS IN FIRST GEAR. THEN IT WOULD SKIP SECOND GEAR AND GO INTO THIRD GEAR. ALSO, OVERDRIVE LIGHT FLASHED. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A FORD MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION WAS SKIPPING SECOND GEAR. CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4,294.97. *AK
AFTER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE TIRE MANUFACTURER, SENDING IN THE RECEIPTS, ALONG WITH THERE FORMS, THE CONSUMER HAS NOT BEEN REIMBURSED. ALL TIRES BUT ONE WERE REPLACED. *NM. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE KNOB THAT TURNED ON AND OFF THE HEAD LAMPS BROKE OFF. CONSUMER SPOKE TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT HE TAKE THE VEHICLE, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS HAPPENED A LOT. ALSO, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2000 MODEL, BUT NOT ON THE 2001 MODEL, ALTOUGH BOTH HAD THE SAME DESIGN. *AK

THE SIDEWALL ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ON MY 2001 FORD EXCURSION SEPERATED FROM THE PLY EXPOSING THE CORD. THIS HAPPENED DURING HIGHWAY USE, WITH THE TIRE PROPERLY INFLATED TO VEHICLE SPECS. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXCURSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AND THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE OIL WAS NOT ENTERING THE ENGINE AS IT SHOULD HAVE, WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
DEALER CALLED THE CONSUMER FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL ON FIRESTONE TIRES. A DATE WAS SET. BUT WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED FOR THE APPOINTMENT HE WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT FOR THE TIRES ON HIS VEHICLE. HOWEVER, CONSUMER DID FIND SPLITS IN THREE OF THE FOUR TIRES, SPLITS EXTENDED FROM THE RIM TO THE TREAD.*AK

HEADLIGHT SWITCH KNOB SNAPPED OFF. CALLED FORD PARTS COUNTER AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THIS WAS OCCURING A LOT IN 2001 MODEL EXCURSION AND F250 MODELS WHICH BOTH USE THE SAME SWITCH. EMPLOYEE STATED THAT HE HAD RECEIVED NUMEROUS CALLS REQUESTING THE KNOB. SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THE 2000 MODEL EXCURSION HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM [NHTSA RECALL NO. 01V075/FORD RECALL NO. 01S09] THE 2000 MODEL AND THE 2001 MODEL APPEAR TO ME TO HAVE THE SAME HEADLIGHT SWITCH AS THE REACALL NOTIFICATION DID NOT START UNTIL MARCH 26, 2001. *LA
