MY WIFE AND I WERE GOING DOWN TO SO. CALIF. WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD POP. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE SECOND SPARK PLUG BACK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAD BLOWN OUT. WE HAD TO SET OUT IN THE DESERT FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE WE COULD BE TOWED. THE FORD DEALER IN CARSON CITY, NEVADA TOLD US THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM AND FORD WOULD NOT COVER THESE REPAIRS. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE, WHERE IS THE RECALL, FORD SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ALL OF THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS AT THEIR EXPENCE, THEY ARE THE ONES MADE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS.
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE 1998 FORD EXPEDITION WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING AND WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THERE IS A CLANKING SOUND. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT A SLOW SPEED ONE CAN HEAR THE NOISE. THE SPEED IS 5 MPH. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP THREE TIMES OVER THE NOISE PROBLEM. NO ONE CAN FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY THING THAT THEY KNOW IS THAT IS COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT IT MAY BE THE STEERING COLUMN OR AROUND THAT AREA.*AK
MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER WITH 84K MILES ON IT HAS HAD TWO SPARK PLUG COILS GO BAD AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOR $425 EACH TIME. ON JULY 1, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR MADE A LOUD POP AND WE HAD TO PULL OVER, LUCKILY WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO THE FORD DEALER IN OJAI, WHO LOOKED AT THE CAR AND DETERMINED THAT THE A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE HEAD AND COST TO REPAIR WAS GOING TO BE $3800. MANY PEOPLE WITH THE 5.4L TRITON ENGINE REPORT THE SAME PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS. THE ENGINE SHOULD BE RECALLED SINCE IT HAS A FATAL DEISGN FLAW. THERE ARE ONLY 4 THREADS IN EACH SPARK PLUG HOLE INSTEAD OF 8. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THE CAR HAD STALLED AT THE WRONG TIME. PLEASE GET FORD TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM.
1998 FORD EXPEDITION. ON JULY 1, 2005 CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH BURNED AND MELTED RENDERING VEHICLE INOPERABLE (TEMPORARILY). THREE CHILDREN NEEDED TO BE "EVACUATED" IN TEARS AS SMOKE BILLOWED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ALTOUGH A KNOWN ISSUE TO FORD, BECAUSE THEIR CURRENT RECALL IS 2000 YEAR ONLY THEY OFFERED NO (YES NO) ASSISTANCE FOR REPAIR (ONLY ASKING THAT THE DEFECTIVE PART(S) BE REPLACED - NOT ANY OTHER SUBSEQUENT DAMAGES. DT: THE VALVE INSIDE THE GAS TANK THAT KEEPS THE GASOLINE FROM EVAPORTAING IN THE AIR BROKE. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THIS PART VERY RARLEY BREAKS AND THERE WERE GOING TO CHARGE CONSUMER TO HAVE IT FIXED. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE WHITE PLASTIC PIECE ON THE FRONT OF BUMPER RIPPED OFF AND WAS COMING UP ON WINDSHIELD, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. CONTACT HEARD SOME FLAPPING COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE GOT OUT AND CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND DID NOT SEE ANYTHING. ABOUT 20 MILES FURTHER OF THE BUMPER CAME OFF. *AK

DT: CONSUMER'S 1998 FORD EXPEDITION BURST INTO FLAMES. WHILE CONSUMER WAS IN VEHICLE, WITH THE VEHICLE OFF, SHE NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN THE CONSUMER GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE THE SMOKE TURNED TO BLACK. WHEN THE CONSUMER WALKED AWAY SHE LOOKED BACK TOWARDS THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES.*AK

DT JUNE 4TH, 2005 THE VEHICLE BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE DEPT CAME OUT AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. TWO INVESTIGATORS CAME OUT AND SAID THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. THE DECK BURNED ON THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND IT ALSO BURNED A TREE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 3 DAYS BEFORE IT CAUGHT FIRE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION AT ABOUT A 35 MPH SPEED, ON A SMOOTH DRY PAVED ROAD, A SUDDEN LOAD BANG NOISE WITH TIRE SQUEALING AND A LOSS OF CONTROLL OF THE STEERING OCCURED. INSPECTION OF VEHICLE STEERING REVEALED THE RH INNER TIE ROD JOINT HAD FALLEN APART. THE BALL AND SOCKET OF THE TIE ROD HAD BROKEN AND NO STERRING CONTROLL OF THE RH FRT TIRE RESULTED. NO VEHICLE DAMAGE RESULTED (OTHER THAN THE TIEROD), NO PERSONAL OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OCCURED. FORD HAD SENT ME A LETTER OF CONCERN WITH THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION. IT CONTAINED A BRIEF NOTE ON HOW TO CHECK FOR DEFECTIVE OR WORN PARTS. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME THEIR WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE. I CHECKED THE VEHICLE MYSELF USING THEIR RECOMENDATION AND NOTICED NO WORN PARTS. I HAVE INFORMED FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP OF THE CONCERN, THEY SAID BRING IT IN TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT. AGAIN THE WANTED $$. I WILL HAVE A PRIVATE GARAGE INSTALL ALL NEW FRONT STEERING PARTS ON MY VEHICLE. I WANTED TO INFORM YOUR DEPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE STEERING COMPONENT FAILIER AND THE SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL TO MY VEHICLE WHICH COULD HAVE LEAD TO VERY BAD CRASH.

MY WIFE WAS TEACHING AT THE LOCAL JR. COLLEGE HERE IN PENSACOLA FLORIDA. SHE PARKED THE TRUCK AT APPROX. 6:45PM ,HER CLASSROOM FACES THE PARKING LOT. FROM THE SECOND FLOOR SOME OF HER STUDENTS COULD SEE SOMETHING ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT, IT'S APPROX. 8:40PM BY NOW. THE CAR WAS SEEN BY THE GROUNDSKEEPERS AND SERCURITY TO HAVE WHAT APPEARED TO BE SMOKE AND SPARKS OF FIRE COMMING FROM THE HOOD. THEY ATTEMPTED TO USE FIRE EXTINGUSHERS BUT THE FLAMES AND FIRE BY THIS TIME WAS TO HOT.SOON AFTERWARDS THE FIRE DEPT. ARRIVED. MOST OF THE FIRE WAS UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THAT ENGULFED THE FRONT DRIVERSIDE INCLUDING THE ROOF DRIVER DOOR AND THE TIRE COMPLETLY MELTED AWAY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. WE'VE SPOKEN WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WE WHERE ASKED VERY POINTANTLY EXACTLY WHAT DID WE EXPECT OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY.WE CAN'T IMAGION A MORE LUDACRIS QUESTION! WE WHERE TOLD THAT THE LEGAL DEPT. AT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD GET BACK WITH US IN 24-48HRS. WE'VE EXCEEDED 48HRS + NOW...
CC QUIT WORKING, REPLACED AT DEALER, WOULD NOT GET OUT OF PARK
ON SUNDAY 5-15-05, I HAD JUST RETURNED HOME FROM VISITING MY BROTHER IN THE HOSP. FROM A GUN SHOT WOUND TO THE FACE. I SAT DOWN IN MY FRONT HOME AND I HAVE A GLASS STORM DOOR, SO I COULD SEE OUTSIDE. NOT 5-MIN. AFTER I WAS IN THE HOUSE I COULD SEE A LOT OF SMOKE OUTSIDE. I SAID OH MY GOD SOMETHING IS ON FIRE. MY HUSBAND AND I WENT OUT WITH THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND RAISED THE HOOD ON THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS NO ACTUAL FLAMES TO BE SEEN AT THAT TIME, ONLY SMOKE AND MELTED WIRES.

VEHICLE PARKED APPROX 10 HOURS, HORN BLOWING INTERMITTENTLY, SMELLED SMOKE, INTERIOR GARAGE DOOR TO HOUSE HOT, GOT FAMILY OUT - DID NOT WITNESS VEHICLE FIRE AS OUTSIDE GARAGE DOOR WAS SHUT ----- CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING 1 MONTH PRIOR TO VEHICLE FIRE
ON APRIL 25TH, 2005 MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION EXPLODED AND WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. FROM ALL INFORMATION I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FINE THE DESCRIPTION OF OTHER CAR FIRES MATCH HOW MY CAR BURNED. FORD HAS ADVISED ME THAT MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL HAVE TO SUBROGATE. MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL COVER THE BALANCE OWED ON MY CAR, HOWEVER I AM WITHOUT A VEHICLE. MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS ADVISING ME THAT A LAW SUIT AGAINST FORD WILL TAKE YEARS. I WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST FORD, THIS IS UNFAIR TREATMENT. I HAVE LOST MY CAR, CONTENTS WITHIN AND NOW I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION.
DRIVING 1998 FORD EXPEDITION V8 5.4 LITER... DOWN THE HIGHWAY UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND THE # 4 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD, CAUSING A VERY LOAD BANG FOLLOWED BUY LOAD EXHAUST, ESCAPING FROM THE PLUG HOLE AND HIGH VOLUME OF FUEL VAPOR AND SOME FUEL, THIS WILL BE THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME A SMALL FIRE STARTED WHICH MY HUSBAND PUT OUT IMMEDIATELY, I AM CURRENTLY A SINGLE MOM WITH TWO CHILDREN AND CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP FIXING THIS PROBLEM OVER AND OVER AT ABOUT 600.00 AN OCCURRENCE... NOR CAN I AFFORD THE SAFETY ISSUE WITH MYSELF AND CHILDREN. THIS TIME THE MECHANIC IS SAYING THE WHOLE HEAD MUST BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAS TORN UP THE TREADS.(ALUMINUM HEAD AS WELL) THIS WILL COST ME ABOUT $1500-2$000. TO HAVE REPAIRED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL FORD DEALERS AND TONS OF MECHANICS AND THEY ARE ALL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 5.4 LITER !!! WHY HAS NOTHING BEEN DONE? GEM MODULE/ECU FAILED - COROSION FOUND ON BA BOX FUSE ASSEMBLY - PROGRESSIVE AND RANDON SYMTOMS OVER PERIOD OF TIME PRIOR TO COMPLETE FAILURE - FORD LOOKED AT PROBLEMS PREVIOUSLY AND NEVER CORRECTED(REPLACED BATERY WORN OUT FROM REPEATED DRAINS). CAUSED ELECTRICAL BACKFLOWS INTO VARIOUS SYSTEMS WHEN POWER OFF SUCH AS AC, RADIO, ENGINE ETC... DRAINING BATTERY NUMEROUS TIMES AND CAUSING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD.... THESE SYSMPTOMS OCCURRED MANY MONTHS PRIOR TO TOTAL FAILURE AT WHICH TIME MANY REALLY WEIRD SYSMPTOMS MADE THE CAR VIRTUALLY UNDRIVEABLE AT SPEED... TRANSMISSION CHANGING GEARS ERRADICALLY... SPEEDOMETER WORKS OFF AND ON... ENGINE CYCLE THRU STARTUP CYCLE OVER AND OVER WHILE DRIVING. *AK
RECALL CAMPAIGN 97V171000 CONCERNING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CABLE ASSEMBLY. THE SHIFT LEVER WILL NOT GO INTO PARK. THE SHIFT INDICATOR IS OFF BY ONE. OWNER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES, AND UPON HER RETURN, SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONSUMER CHECKED THE VEHICLE, AND THE FIRE SMOLDERED ITSELF OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE WIRE HARNESS WAS BURNED. *AK THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL SENSOR/SWITCH. FORD STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONED ALSO THE INDICATOR FOR THE GEAR SHIFT HAD BROKEN AND WERE REPLACED. *SC *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR A FEW MINUTES WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE . RESULTS SHOWED THAT THERE WAS S SHORT WITHIN THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH.*AK
A LOUD CLANKING NOISE STARTED COMING FROM THE TRAILER HITCH WHILE DRIVING. THE TRAILER HITCH CAME APART, BUT THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK HOME, AND WILL CALL THE MANUFACTURER THE NEXT DAY FOR APPOINTMENT.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE RESIDENCE. TWO HOURS LATER, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED OUT TO EXTINGUISH OUT THE FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
SPARK PLUGS BLOWN OUT OF CYLINDER HEAD OF FORD EXPEDITION 5.4 LITER ENGINE. *AK
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO A SHOP FOR CHECKUP, AND DURING THAT TIME. IT CAUGHT ON FIRE UNEXPECTEDLY. THE SHOP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A CAUSE, BUT SEEMED TO BE A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO THE CURRENT INVESTIGATION OF EA 05-005 OF THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH FIRES.*AK
OUTSIDE MIRRORS ON BOTH SIDES OF AUTO HAVE SHOWN LINES IN THE MIRRORS AND THEY SHOW UP IN SUNLIGHT AND WHEN IN TRAFFIC AT NIGHT. THEY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE SOME VISION. I NOTICED THIS CONDITION FOR SOME TIME BUT THE DEALERS TOLD ME THIS WAS NORMAL. THIS AUTO HAS ONLY 500 MILES NOW BUT THIS STARTED BACK IN 2000. I JUST WENT IN FOR SERVICE 3/17/05 AT FORD AND THEY SAID ITS UP TO ME TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS COMMON ON FORD SUV. A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE RIGHT FRONT COLLAPSED ONTO THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE MOVED. DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT SPRINGS TORSION BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
I HAVE A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES STOPPED WORKING, THE BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING, AND I COULD NOT PUT THE CAR IN GEAR. I LOOKED AT THE FUSE BOX AND FOUND A FUSE BLOWN. WHEN I REPLACED THE FUSE, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN THE CAR STARTED SMOKING PROFUSELY. I PULLED THE FUSE OUT RIGHT AWAY, AND HAD SOMEONE WATCH AS I PUT IT BACK IN. THE SMOKING STARTED AGAIN, AND IT WAS COMING FROM SOME TYPE OF BRAKE SWITCH ON THE FRONT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. I TOOK THE CAR TO AIRPORT FORD IN FLORENCE, KY, AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE 2000 FORDS WERE BEING RECALLED FOR. I ASKED THEM IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE RE-CALL, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THE RIGHT YEAR OR VIN. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY BECAUSE IT WAS THE EXACT SAME SWITCH CAUSING THE EXACT SAME FIRE THAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING. I HAD TO PAY $158.14 PLUS $15.00 "SHOP SUPPLIES" PLUS $10.39 IN TAXES, TOTALING $183.53 FOR A DESIGN AND SAFETY FLAW - THE SAME ONE THAT THEY SAY ONLY AFFECTS THE 2000 MODELS. FORD IS TRYING TO KEEP FROM TAKING CARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR OTHER MODELS EVEN THOUGH EVEN THEIR OWN DEALERSHIP TECHNICIANS SAY IS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM.*AK
I HAVE NOTICED A LARGE INCREASE IN AMOUNT OF SWAY WHEN STEERING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I WENT TO CHANGE MY OIL AND FOUND THAT ONE OF THE LINKAGES FROM THE STABLIZER ARM TO THE AXLES? (SIDES WHERE THE WHEEL IS CONNECTED) HAD SNAPPED AND THE OTHER ONE WAS MISSING. I CONTACTED TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS, ONE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THAT PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES AND THE OTHER ONE SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF IT. THEY WANTED $75.00 FOR JUST THE PARTS (LINKAGES), WHICH I PAID CONSIDERING THE SAFETY ISSUE. I AM A MECHANICAL ENGINEER AND WHEN YOU HAVE BOLTS SNAPPING LIKE THAT IT APPEARS TO BE BAD ENGINEERING OR FAULTY PARTS. ALSO WHEN YOU CONSIDER THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD A ROLLING ISSUE IN THE PAST (ALTHOUGH ATTRIBUTED TO THE TIRES), I THOUGHT THIS WOULD DEFINITLY WARRANT A RECALL INVESTIGATION (THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER DOCUMENTED CASES ON YOUR SITE OF THIS PROBLEM ALSO). I REPLACED THE PARTS: TWO (2) XL3Z-5495AA STUDS, TWO (2) F65Z-5C491-BC NUT & WASHERS, TWO (2) F65Z-5K483-CC LINKS. I HAVE KEPT THE ONE STUD THAT HAD SNAPPED SHOWING THE BREAK. IT DID NOT SNAP ON THE THREADED END.*AK
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A NOISE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT LOWER BALL JOINTS BROKE.*AK
I WAS DRIVING MY 1998 FORD WINDSTAR WITH 5 PASSENGERS, AND MYSELF AS THE DRIVER. WE REAR ENDED A CAR ON THE LEFT FRONT BUMPER. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, THAT IS A QUESTION FOR MYSELF. MY 4YR OLD IN BACKSEAT DIRECTLY BEHIND ME SITS IN A HIGH BACK BOOSTER, NOT USING THE 5 PT HARNESS. HE IS IN A REGULAR SHOULDER/LAP BELT. UPON IMPACT MY CHILD FLEW FORWARD SLAMMING INTO MY SEAT AND HAVING HIS GLASSES ALSO FLY FORWARD OFF OF HIS FACE. QUESTION ON SEAT BELT. PLEASE HELP!!!!!*AK
WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE AND HEARD A THUMP AS IF SOMETHING WAS UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER'S HUSBAND EXITED THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. ALL FIVE LUG NUT HAD COME OFF THE WHEEL AND IT HAD FALLEN OFF. *JB *JB *NM
I ARRIVED AT HOME AND PARKED VEHICLE IN GARAGE ~5:15PM. MY WIFE WALKED ON THE TREADMILL (WHICH IS IN THE GARAGE) FROM 7:15 ? 7:45PM AND DID NOT SMELL OR NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL. AT 10:00 PM I LOOKED THROUGH GARAGE DOOR TO MAKE SURE LIGHTS WERE OUT AND GARAGE DOORS SHUT. I NOTICED A SMALL RED LIGHT BELOW THE TRUCK. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND IT WAS A FLAME. I CAME BACK IN THE HOUSE TOLD MY WIFE TO NOTIFY THE FIRE DEPT. I USED A HOSE AND FIRE EXTINGUISHERS TO EXHAUST FLAME AS THE FIRE DEPT. ARRIVED. THE HEAT WAS SO INTENSE IT MELTED THE GARAGE LIGHT LENS ABOVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO NEUTRAL DUE TO DAMAGE, SO I USED MY NEIGHBOR?S TRUCK TO PULL THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GARAGE. IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN THE DEFECTIVE CRUISE SWITCH ACCORDING TO A FIRE INVESTIGATOR. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS OBVIOUS I CAN EMAIL PHOTOS (EXCEPT I DID NOT PHOTO DAMAGED WINDSHIELD). WE ALSO HAVE SMOKE DAMAGE TO OUR GARAGE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD ORIGINALLY THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE 5 DAYS UNTIL THEY CONTACT ME, NOW THEY SAY IT COULD BE 10 DAYS. I ASKED THEM TO EXPEDITE, SINCE I AM CURRENTLY WITHOUT A VEHICLE. FORD HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING AT THIS POINT TO REVIEW OR RESOLVE THE ISSUE.*AK

NHTSA CAMPAIGN 98V095000; FORD ISSUED A WHEEL LUG NUT RECALL. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT HAD SOME OF THE LUG NUTS COME OFF. THE VIN IS OUTSIDE THE REMEDY SCOPE. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS THE PEDAL WILL GO TO THE FLOOR, AND VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, WITH NO SPECIFIC PATTERN OR CONDITIONS. OUR 1998 FORD EXPEDITION WAS DESTROYED BY A ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT DAMAGED OUR HOME.THE TRUCK WAS LAST DRIVEN AT 9:30PM AND AT 11:30PM IT STARTED ON FIRE.THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANNC COMPANY.*AK
MY SON WAS DRIVING THE 1998 FORD EXPEDITION AND HAD ENGAGED THE CRUSE CONTROL. THE CRUSE CONTROL WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND REVED THE ENGINE UP TO IN EXCESS OF 8000 RPM. HE WAS ON A HIGHWAY AND WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND ROLL TO A STOP. WHEN HE STARTED UP THE CAR AGAIN IN PARK, THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY WENT UP TO THE 8,000 RPM UNTIL HE SHUT IT DOWN.
THE CRUISE CONTROLS STUCK AND THE CAR WENT UP TO 8,000 RPMS. I COULD NOT STOP THE ENGINE FROM RACING, AND I HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE, AND TAKE OUT THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE.*AK

I OWN A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION WITH A 5.4L V8 ENGINE. I HAVE IT SERVICED AT DIERS FORD IN FREMONT, NE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN 2 HOURS AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN A LOUD POP WAS HEARD FOLLOWED BY ROUGH ENGINE OPERATION. UPON INSPECTION, ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE CYLINDER HEAD STRIPPING THE THREADS OUT OF THE HEAD AS IT WENT. UPON TOWING THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALER, I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $3,000 TO REPLACE THE HEAD. I HAVE GIVEN THE DEALER PERMISSION TO HAVE THE HEAD REPLACED BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WILL NOT BE UNTIL LATE FEBRUARY UNTIL THEY CAN EVEN GET A HEAD TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED ONE. TO THIS POINT THEY HAVE LET ME USE A LOANER VEHICLE BUT HAVE NOW TOLD ME THEY WILL NO LONGER PROVIDE ME ONE. THUS, I AM OUT OF A VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST 8 WEEKS. *JB
I HAD A SKIING ACCIDENT AND SEVERELY DAMAGED MY KNEE. AS I WAS BEING TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN MY 1998 EXPEDITION, IT BLEW A SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE ENGINE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER TODAY THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL FORD TRITON ALUMINUM ENGINES, HOWEVER, THERE WOULD BE NO COMPENSATION FOR THIS KNOWN DEFECT. *NM
