WIPERS RUN WITHOUT BEING ACTIVATED. WHEN WIPERS ARE USED IN A RAINY SITUATION, CAN NOT STOP WIPERS BY TURNING SWITCH OFF. WHEN USING WIPERS IN A "DELAY" MODE, WIPERS STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A SWEEP.
DEFECTS TO OUR OEM TIRES ON OUR NEW EXPEDITION, SIMILAR TO THOSE DESCRIBED IN THE MEDIA. IN MID0AUGUST, AFTER ONLY HAVING OUR TRUCK FOUR MONTHS AND WITH ONLY 2500 MILES ON IT, THE FRONT LEFT SIDE TIRE'S BELTS BEGAN TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE. FIRESTONE REPLACED. FOUR MONTHS LATER, REAR RIGHT TIRE BEGAN TO GO FLAT AFTER HEATING UP, FIRESTONE TOOK OVER A MONTH OF TESTING ON THE TIRE ON THE TIRE AND REFUSED TO REPLACE IT EVEN THOUGH WE RETURNED IT FOUR TIMES DUE TO THESE FLATS. FINALYY, AFTER A MONTH OF COMPLAINTS, THEY RELUCTANTLY REPLACED THE SECOND TIRE. TWO DEFECTIVE TIRES IN LESS THAN EIGHT MONTHS OF THE VEHICLE BEING NEW AND THEY REPORTED NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TIRE. I NOTIFIED FIRESTONE AND FORD OF MY CONCERNS ON 8/28/99 AFTER THE FIRST DEFECT AND HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATION.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 255-70-16 )
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES CONTINUED PROBLEMS WITH SUSPENSION STABILITY AND CONTROL, SEVERAL REPLACEMENTS OF SUSPENSION/STEERING COMPONENTS. YH
THE WELDS THAT CONNECT THE HOOD TO THER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HAVE CRACKED. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
THIS IS A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE FROM FORD FOR MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. THE REPLACEMENT VEHICLE HAS MANY OF THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE STALLING WHEN ACCELERATING IN AN INTERSECTION IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. WE WE'RE NEARLY T- BONED. FORD SOMETIMES ADMITS THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS AND THEN AT TIMES WILL DENY THEM. PLEASE INVESTIGATE
IN AUG, 99, I WAS DRIVING MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION ON INTERSTATE 80 BETWEEN AUBURN, CALIFORNIA AND LAKE TAHOE, WHEN MY WIFE AND 3 CHILDREN HEARD A LOUD NOISE, AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SWERVING ALL OVER THE FREEWAY. AFTER THE NOISE, MY KIDS LOOKED BACK AND SAW WHAT THEY DESCRIBED AS SMOKE AND DEBRIS FLYING BEHIND THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. I GOT EVERYONE OUT OF THE CAR AND WE CALLED THE AUTO CLUB ON OUR CELL PHONE TO COME FIX THE FLAT. I LOOKED AT THE FLAT TIRE, AND I WAS VERY SURPRISED TO SEE THE NATURE OF THE FLAT. THE TIRE SIDEWALL WAS TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED, BUT THE TIRE TREAD REMAINED IS ONE ROUND PIECE. I JACKED UP THE CAR AND REMOVED THE WHEEL, AND THE SEPARATED TREAD THAT SURROUNDED THE ALUMINUM WHEEL. I LOOKED CLOSELY AT THE SEPARATED TREAD, EXPECTING TO SEE A NAIL OR SOME OTHER EVIDENCE OF A PUNCTURE. THERE WASNT ANY PUNCTURE OR HOLE IN THE TREAD. I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY UNUSUAL SO I TOOK SOME PHOTOS RIGHT THERE. THEN I CHANGED THE TIRE AND PUT THE WHEEL AND SEPARATED TREAD IN MY CAR. THE AUTO CLUB TOW TRUCK ARRIVED JUST AS I WAS COMPLETING THE CHANGE. THE DAY AFTER THE INCIDENT, I WENT TO A FIRESTONE DEALER IN ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA AND BROUGHT THE WHEEL AND THE SEPARATED TREAD. I WAS PRETTY UPSET AND REQUESTED A FREE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE IT APPEARED TO ME TO BE A DEFECTIVE TIRE. HOWEVER, THE MAN AT THE FIRESTONE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS ROAD HAZARD AND THAT WARRANTY DID NOT APPLY. I COMMENTED TO MY SON AFTERWARDS THAT HE SEEMED ALMOST PRE-PROGRAMMED FOR THAT RESPONSE. I WASNT HAPPY WITH THEIR ATTITUDE AT FIRESTONE SO I WENT TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE NICER ABOUT IT, AND AGREED THAT IT LOOKED LIKE A TIRE PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAID FORD DOESNT WARRANT TIRES ON NEW CARS. I ENDED UP JUST BUYING A REPLACEMENT WILDERNESS AT IN REDDING THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE THAT WAS OUR VACATION DESTINATION. WHEN WE RETURNED HOME ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER, MY WIFE WROTE A LETTER TO FIRESTONE, BUT WE
VERY BAD VIBRATION PROBLEM, BELIEVED TO BE FROM THE FRONT END, THE TIRES WERE BALANCED BY GOODYEAR AND IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RIMS WERE OUT OF ROUND. THIS CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD AT 45-55 MPH. THE FORD CHASSIS MOTORHOME HOTLINE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. MY ATTORNEY CURRENTLY HAS 4 CASES PENDING AGAINST FORD AND FLEETWOOD MOTORHOMES. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEITHER FORD OR FLEETWOOD WILL ADDRESS. MY MOTORHOME VIBRATED SO BAD THAT THE TAIL SECTION DROPPED 2 INCHES, CURLED THE LEAF SPRINGS BACKWARDS, CAUSED STRESS CRACKS, RATTLES AND DESTROYED THE REAR RING AND PINION GEARS.*AK
REPORTING TRAILER HITCHES FASTENER FAILURE. CONSUMER NOTICED COUPLE OF BOLTS MISSING, ONE FELL OFF IN HAND, AND THE OTHERS WERE LOOSE. CAN NHTSA PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER. *AK
WHILE TURNING VEHICLE ON THERE WAS STALLING. CONSUMER CUT THE VEHICLE OFF TO RESTART, AND ENGINE REVVED. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN STRAIGHT TO THE SHOP AFTER THE FIRST EPISODE, AND IT STALLED ALL THE WAY THERE. *AK
WHENEVER THE HORN, LOCATED ON STEERING WHEEL, IS HIT WITH HEAL ON HEAL IT FAILS TO WORK. ONLY IT HAS WORKED WHEN SMALL PICTURE OF HORN WAS LOCATED & PRESSED. LOCATION OF HORN IS HAZARDOUS TO DRIVER. DIFFICULT TO USE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING OR COMING TO A STOP OR A YIELD SIGN, VEHICLE HESITATES WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT INTO A LOW GEAR BY ITSELF. CONSUMER HAS ALMOST LOST CONTROL.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. THEY WILL COME ON BY THEMSELVES AND GO OFF. DEALER SUPPOSE TO ORDER A PART. *AK
APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED GOING ON WITHOUT ME TURNING THE WIPERS ON. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT I HAD HIT THE BUTTON BUT THEN IT STARTED TO HAPPEN MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY SO I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD MADE AN APPOINTMENT BUT AS SOON AS I TOLD THE GENTLEMAN WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS HE TOLD NOT TO EVEN LEAVE THE TRUCK THAT DAY -HE KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND WAS GOING TO ORDER THE PART FOR ME. I ASKED APPROXIMATELY HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO GET IT IN AND HE REPLIED WITH A SHRUG OF HIS SHOULDERS THAT THE PART THAT I NEEDED WAS BACK-ORDERED. THAT WAS ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO AND I HAD HEARD NOTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL I SAW A REPORT ON CHANNEL 7 NEWS ABOUT ALL OF THE PROBLEMS.
TIRES WON'T STAY BALANCED (BALANCED 3 TIMES - STILL SHIMMY). TIRES RUN VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH. DEALER SAID THIS CONDITION IS NORMAL? SUPRISED THEY WERE NOT RECALLED BY FIRESTONE ALSO....MORE MUST DIE BEFORE A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS SHOWS A PROBLEM.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P245R16 )
AT 3000 MILES THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED DUE TO A KNOCK IN THE ENGINE. AT 11,000 MILES THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE DRIVE TRAIN AT 65 MPH WITH THE VECHILE UNDER LOAD - FORD COULDN'T IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AND HAD NO FIX. AT 12,500 MILES THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED RESULTING IN THE VECHILE STALLING AT STOPS. THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION WERE REPLACED. THIS REDUCED THE VIBRATION BUT DID NOT ELIMINATE IT. AGAIN FORD TRIED SEVERAL TIMES BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AT 21,000 MILES THE VECHILE LOST ALL POWER AND WOULD ONLY MOVE BY REVING THE ENGINE (LIKE SEVERE CLUTCH SLIPPAGE ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION). FORD IS PRESENTLY INVESTIGATING. BOTH FAILURES COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SEVERE ACCIDENTS IF THE DRIVING CONDITIONS HAD BEEN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURES. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO ME TO BE IN THE COMPUTER CONSTROL SYSTEM FOR THE TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN POSSIBLY THE SECOND FAILRE OF THE TRANSMISSION.
TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING OVER AND OVER AGAIN AFTER BEING FIXED. YH
I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE REARVIEW MIRRORS ON MY 1999 EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION. I NOTICED BEFORE MY WARRANTY RAN OUT THAT THEY BEGAN TO SHOW BLACK SPOTS. THE MAINTANCE DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP BRUSHED IT OFF AS NO BIG DEAL. AFTER MY WARRANTY RAN OUT, I AGAIN TOLD THE MAINTANCE DEPARTMENT THAT THE MIRRORS WERE WORSENING. NOW AFTER A FEW YEARS HAVE PASSED, AND SPEAKING TO OTHER OWNERS OF THAT SPECIFIC MODEL, THE MIRRORS ARE UNUSEABLE. I FEEL THAT THE MIRRORS ARE A DEFECT OF THE MANUFACTORERS AND THINK THEY SHOULD BE THE ONE TO REPLACE THEM. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED A PRICE OF $400. / MIRROR FOR REPLACEMENT ON MY PART. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AND RESPOND TO ME.*AK
I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WHEN A DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT AND COLLIDED WITH THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL AT BUMPER LEVEL. THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO SPIN AROUND FACING NORTH AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER ON ITS ROOF. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE DAMAGE AT THE POINT OF IMPACT WAS NOT SO SEVERE THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE FLIPPED ONTO ITS ROOF. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. HOWEVER, I WILL NOTE THAT MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS IN A CHILD SAFETY SEAT IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AND I WAS ALSO WEARING A SEAT BELT. MY DAUGHTER DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES AND I SUSTAINED SOME NECK AND BACK SPRAIN. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE ROLLOVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WHICH COLLIDED WITH MY EXPEDITION WAS A SMALL 1989 DODGE (OMNI ?) HATCHBACK. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING IF THIS VEHICLE HAS A PROPENSITY TO ROLLOVER SINCE I NOW HAVE TO REPLACE MY VEHICLE AND AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN. *AK
1) UPON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION/TRANSFER CASE SEEMS TO SLIP AND SHUDDER AS IF THE TIRES ARE NOT GRABBING THE ROAD. THIS IS AT ALL SPEEDS, WHETHER SLOW OR QUICK STARTS. ALSO, DURING HIGH SPEED ACCELERATION SUCH AS WHEN PASSING ON THE HIGHWAY, THERE IS A LOW PITCH GROWLING SOUND AND VIBRATION AS IF THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE BROKEN. 2) THE FRONT INTERMITTENT WIPERS TURN ON BY THEMSELF OCCASIONALLY, USUALLY JUST FOR ONE SWEEP THEN TURN BACK OFF. 3) THE REAR AUTOMATIC LOAD LEVELING AIR SHOCKS ON ONE OCCASION DEFLATED TOTALLY AFTER BEING PARKED FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. THE TRUCK CHASSIS WAS NEARLY TOUCHING THE REAR TIRES, I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE AWAY UNTIL THEY REINFLATED AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE.
AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR ONLY THREE DAYS, WE WERE TRAVELING 60 MPH ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE DISINTEGRATED - NO STEERING OR CONTROL PROBLEMS OCCURRED AND WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND PUT ON THE SPARE. WE RETURNED HOME AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THREE DAYS PRIOR AND THEY AT FIRST REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE TIRE. AFTER MUCH DEBATE AND RELUCTANCE ON THEIR PART ("THIS NEVER HAPPENS, YOU MUST HAVE HIT A NAIL") - WE ARGUED THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THE TIRE SHOULD HAVE BLOWN AFTER ONLY BEING DRIVE ON FOR LESS THAN 300 MILES AND THAT WE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING WE WERE AWARE OF (THEIR INSPECTION OF THE TIRE ALSO YIELDED NO PUNCTURES THAT THEY COULD FIND). FORD FINALLY AGREED TO PAY FOR A NEW WILDERNESS TIRE AND IT WAS REPLACED. WE ARE REPORTING THIS SO THAT YOU KNOW THIS HAPPENED OVER ONE YEAR AGO ON A VIRUALLY BRAND NEW TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: VNCU TIRE SIZE: 16 )
AUTOMOBILE HESITATES FROM A COMPLETE STOP WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. CONSUMER HAS ESCAPED ACCIDENTS TWICE. BOTH TIMES HAD TO GET TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID THE OTHER AUTOMOBILE. *AK
THERE WAS A PASSENGER IN VEHICLE GOING 70MPH. DRIVER LOST CONTROL, VEHICLE CROSSED OVER SEVERAL LANES, AND FLIPPED OVER 4 TIMES. LANDED ON WHEELS & HIT GUARDRAIL & FLIPPED AGAIN. LANDED ON RIGHT SIDE & SKIDDED 92 FEET. UPON IMPACT WITH GUARDRAIL, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. CHILD 2 1/2MOS. IN REAR FACING SEAT WAS THROWN FROM SEAT AS VEHICLE FLIPPED. POLICE REPORT INDICATED HYROPLANED ON WATER ON HIGHWAY. PICTURES SHOWING FRONT RIGHT TIRE BLOWN & POSSIBLE REAR. FIRESTONE TIRES ON VEHICLE THAT WAS TOTALED. OCCUPANTS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES & TREATED AT EMERGENCY ROOM. CHILD SEAT COSCO MODEL #0273310 DOM 06 OCT 97. *AK

I'VE HAD 5 FLAT TIRES IN THE 20 MONTHS I'VE OWNED THIS TRUCK. THREE OF THE 5 (INCLUDING THE SPARE) TIRES ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF THE TREAD CRACKING AT THE BASE.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 265/70-17 )
ON A CLEAR OPEN ROAD, HIGHWAY 15, OUR TIRE BLEW OUT. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. FIRST WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE, THEN SMOKE FROM THE REAR OF CAR, THEN THE CAR BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. SINCE THE CAR WAS ALMOST NEW WE TOOK THE TIRE TO GAUDIN FORD IN LAS VEGAS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE TIRE. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT HAD TO BE A ROAD HAZARD AND THAT WE WOULD NEED TO BUY A NEW TIRE, WHICH WE DID. ON OUR LOCAL NEWS THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL STORIES ABOUT THE SAME TIRES BLOWING OUT THE SAME WAY, BUT UNFORTUNEATLY FOR THEM, THESE PEOPLE WERE KILLED. I THINK THE TIRES ARE UNSAFE. *AK( DOT NUMBER: )

LEMON LAW -- IF NO SUCSESSFUL REPAIR IN 7 BUSINESS DAYS -- REQUIRES MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE VEHICLE OR FACE COURT ACTION UNDER STATE LAWS TO PROTECT CONSUMMERS. *AK
WIPERS WOULD JUST TURN ON WITHOUT ANY CONTACT WITH MULITI-FUNCTION SWITCH. NO COMMON TIME, DRIVING PATTERN OR PERSON FOUND..ALL AT THE WIM OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER WAS VERY RELUCTANT TO REPAIR PROBLEM. DIDN'T BELEIVE MY WIFE THE FIRST TIME AND NEVER FIXED IT. THEN AFTER SECOND APPT THEY CANCELLED BECAUSE THEY (FORD) DIDN'T HAVE A "FIX" TO THE PROBLEM. AFTER MUCH MUCH YELLING THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWICTCH WHICH WAS DONE. NO RE-OCCURRANCE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE.
"PHANTOM WIPERS"
WIPERS TURN ON AUTOMATICALLY WHILE SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION. WIPER MOTOR REPLACED ONCE, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK
GAS GAUGE READING IS NOT ACCURATE. FUEL AMOUNT FLUCTUATES. CHECKED BY DEALER, NO PROBLEM FOUND. GAUGE STILL INACCURATE. DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE DASH FUEL GAUGE IS NOT ACCURATE AND IS THERE PRIMARILY FOR DECORATION.
FROM THE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP OF OUR 1999 FORD EXPEDITION -- WE HAD DIFFICULTY WITH THE FACTORY EQUIPPED 17 INCH WILDERNESS AT TIRES PULLING TO EITHER SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING STRAIT AHEAD AT ANY SPEED. WE PROCEEDED WITH A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT WITH MASSACHUSETTS ATTORNEY GENERAL. AT LEAST 3 FRONT END ALIEGNMENTS WERE UNSUCCESSFUL IN FIXING THE PROBLEM. A FORD MOTOR COMPANY ENGINEER SAID THE 17 INCH TIRES WERE INHERENTLY UNSTABLE AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO IMPROVE THE PULLING OF TIRES. OUR OWN MECHANIC DETUNED THE FRONT END ALIEGNMENT WITH IN FACTORY SPECIFIATIONS AND THIS ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS INCREASE TIRE WEAR. WE HAVE REPLACED AT APPROX 16,000 MILES ALL FIVE WILDERNESS AT TIRES WITH GOODYEAR TIRES AND DO NOT APPEAR TO HAVE TH SAME STEARING PROBLEMS. (DOT NUMBER: W216-1RE-0 TIRESIZE: 17)

WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAIL ALL THE TIME. CONSUMER CANNOT CUT THEM OFF. MANUFACTURER TOLD CONSUMER THAT THEY CONNOT CORRECT PROBLEM, BUT TO GO AND HAVE THEM DISCONNECTED. DEALER CLAIMED THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THEM. *AK *YC
MY EXPEDITION HAS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS: THEY TURN ON WHENEVER THEY WANT, THEY DO NOT TURN ON ON DEMAND AND OCCASIONALLY THE WASHER FLUID PUMP BEGINS TO PUMP FLUID CONTINUOUSLY FOR 30 SECONDS OR MORE. THE PROBLEM CAN SOMETIMES BE ELIMINATED IF I STOP THE CAR AND RESTART IT - ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT IS THAT IT'S NOT ALWAYS FEASIBLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND BROUGHT IT IN TWO TIMES FOR REPAIR. THEY CANNOT FIX IT, THEY TELL ME, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FROM FORD IN DETROIT. BASICALLY, THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE THAT I'M DRIVING A 6,200 POUND VEHICLE THAT OCCASIONALLY BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. HMMMM!
