FIRESTONE HAS RECALLED THEIR WILDERNESS AT FIFTEEN INCH TIRES BUT I HAVE SIXTEEN IN TIRES OF THE SAME BRAND.THESE TIRES ARE SHOWING CRACKS AT THE SAME LOCATION WHERE TREAD SEPARATION IS OCCURING ON THE FIFTEENS.I BELEAVE THAT THESE TIRES ON MY FORD EXPEDITION MAY BE UNSAFE.HOW CAN I PURSUE THIS ISSUE SINCE I HAVE THIS VEHICLE LEASED FROM FORD MOTOR CO.THESE CRACKS ARE CONSISTANT ON ALL FOR TIRES AND LOOK LIKE THEY ARE JUST WAITING TO SEPARATE. FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES P265/70R17 EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. *SLC
I HAVE NOT HAD A FAILED TIRE YET. I AM TRYING TO AVOID A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE FROM OCCURING. I HAVE P255/70R16 FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES ON MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. I HAVE COME ACROSS AN INTERNAL FORD MEMO FROM WWW.SAFETYFORUM.COM THAT HAS FORD INSTRUCTING THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND DEALERS OVERSEAS (IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA) TO REPLACE ALL (5) 16 INCH WIDERNESS AT TIRES ON THEIR FORD VEHICLES. THE MEMO STATES THAT THIS IS DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF INTERIOR TIRE DEGREDATION AND TREAD SEPARATION. I WOULD LIKE AN ANSWER AS TO WHY THIS MEMO DOES NOT APPLY TO THE SAME TIRES ON THE SAME FORD VEHICLES IN THE US.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P255/70R16 )
I GET VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING DOWN HILLS, POSSIBLE TIRES DEFECTIVE
I CURRENTLY OWN A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. IT WAS EQUIPPED FROM THE FACTORY WITH FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES. IN LIGHT OF THE VARIOUS NEWS RELEASES THAT HAVE COME OUT, I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY WIFE, AND MY SIX MONTH OLD SON WHEN TRAVELING IN OUR EXPEDITION. I HAVE NOT YET HAD A FAILURE, AND I UNDERSTAND THAT MY SIZE TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE STATED RECALL, HOWEVER, THAT DOESN'T EASE MY CONCERN IN THE LEAST. THERE ARE FAR GREATER NUMBERS OF FORD EXPLORERS ON THE ROAD WITH 15" TIRES THAN EXPEDITIONS WITH 17" HENCE THE HEIGHTENED NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. I HAVE TO WONDER IF MY FAMILY HAS TO BECOME ONE OF THE "STATISTICS" BEFORE THE PARTICULAR SIZE OF TIRE I HAVE BECOMES INCLUDED IN A RECALL. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IF IT'S THE SAME MODEL OF TIRE, THEN THE SAME, OR AT LEAST VERY SIMILAR, PRODUCTION PROCESSES ARE USED. IN SHORT, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE. TIRES CRACKING AROUND TREAD/TIRE SEPERATION( DOT NUMBER: VNCU TIRE SIZE: P255/70R16 )
WHEN TRAVELING BETWEEN 40 & 50 MPH, THERE IS A VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. THIS VIBRATION IS DISTINCT IN THE FLOORBOARDS. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE PROBLEM, THE MECHANIC STATED IT WAS A TIRE PRESSURE PROBLEM & THE PRESSURE WAS ADJUSTED. THE SECOND TIME, ONLY A COUPLE WEEKS LATER WAS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE COULD NOT VARIFY CONCERN. HOWEVER, WHEN VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP, A FEMALE SERVICE WRITER WENT FOR A RIDE WITH ME AND SHE NOTICED THE PROBLEM. ON THE 3RD INCIDENT, A MECHANIC WHO WAS DOING A STATE SAFETY INSPECTION NOTICED THE VIBRATION AND STRONGLEY ADVISED ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH FORD MOTOR CO. AND THEY STATED THAT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WOULD CALL TO MAKE AN APPT.. THIS HAS NEVER TAKEN PLACE. I OWN A SET OF FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES; SIZE 255/70R/16 109S M/S. I KNOW THAT THESE TIRES ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE LATEST RECALL, BUT THEY APPEAR TO BE DOING THE SAME AS THE 15" TIRES. I HAD THEM INSPECTED AT FIRESTONE AND THEY OBSERVED THE SAME THING. THEY, FIRESTONE DISTRIBUTOR, SUGGESTED THAT I REPLACE THEM IMMEDIATELY, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE SAME TIRE WHICH WILL BRING THE SAME RESULT. I HAVE SINCE PURCHASED A SET OF MICHELIN LTX M&S'S. MY TIRES ARE ALOT WORSE THAN I EXPECTED AFTER HAVING THEM REMOVED AND BEING ABLE TO SEE THEM ON BOTH SIDES. MY TIRES ARE VIBRATING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS, ALSO THEY LOOSE AIR CONSTANTLY, I HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED AT LEAST 8 TIMES AND A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF AIR WAS MISSING EACH TIME!! THE STEERING WHEEL IS VIBRATING MAJORLY AT SPEEDS OF 50 TO 75 MPH PER HOUR! I DID CONTACT THE DEALER BUT WAS TOLD THIS TIRE IS NOT RECALLED!! THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS THE DEALERSHIP INFLATES MY TIRES IMPROPERLY DURING SERVICE. THE DRIVERS DOOR READS THAT THE COLD PRESSURE FOR THE FRONT SHOULD BE 30 AND THE REAR 35. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND HAVE BEEN GETTING MY TIRES SERVICED FOR FREE BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THEY CONTEND MY TIRE GAUGE IS WRONG. ONCE I HAD THEM CHECK THEM BEFORE I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TO LET PRESSURE OUT. ALL I WOULD ASK IS THAT THE SITUATION BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT CHECK THEIR TIRES WHEN THEY LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP IS IN A ACCIDENT AND HURT. THESE HEAD GASKET FAILURES ARE COMMON ON THE LATE 1998 AND EARLY 1999 5.4L ENGINES. MANY HAVE BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. HOW EVER, IT APPEARS THAT THIS DEFECT CAN OCCUR AT ANY MILEAGE. FORD HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE SINCE IT OCCURRED AFTER THE WARRANTY AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. FROM THE NUMBER OF DOCUMENTED FAILURES OF THIS COMPONENT, I FEEL FORD SHOULD EXTEND THE EINGINE WARRANTY OR JUST RECALL THE ENGINES IN QUESTION. THERE ARE TWO TSBS ON FILE (8093-122 &13846-124) THAT DETAIL THE DATES OF MANUFACTURE AND THE ENGINES INVOLVED. THERE ARE DOZENS (IF NOT HUNDREDS) OF THIS GASKET FAILURE NOTED ON VARIOUS INTERNET SITES, MOST THAT I CAN FIND HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY, OTHERS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. IN ANY EVENT, THIS GASKET/HEAD IS A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT THAT WILL FAIL AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY.*AK
SAFETY INSPECTION OF FACTORY INSTALLED TRAILER HITCH RECEIVED ONE BOLT ONLY FINGER TIGHT.
1000 MILES AFTER A TIRE ROTATION, RIGHT REAR WHEEL FELL OFF WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, CAUSING DAMAGE TO BACK QUARTER PANEL AND BRAKE ROTOR, DEALERSHIP STATED WHEEL NUTS WERE PROBABLY OVER TIGHTENED AND CAUSED WHEEL BOLTS TO BREAK, THE OTHER THREE WHEELS WERE CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE TIGHTENED SIMILARLY, CONSUMER STATES THERE GIVES NO MENTION OF RECOMMENDED TORQUE ON THE WHEEL NUTS WHEN ROTATING TIRES. *SLC
RECENTLY I WENT TO THE BODY SHOP TO GET A ROTATION. BUT WHEN I WENT, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ALL MY FOUR TIRES HAD SEVERE SIDEWALL CRACKS. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT IF I HAD DRIVEN THE EXPEDITION OVER 65 MPH THE TIRES MAY HAVE TORN OFF FROM THE RIMS AND FLIPPED MY CAR OVER. AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE PROBLEM PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES. TO GET A SECOND OPINION I WENT DOWN TO A PRIVATELY OWNED GOODYEAR SHOP; THE MANAGER, AFTER INSPECTING ONE OF THE TIRES, WHICH ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES HAD DEFECTS IN THEM AND THAT WE SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CALL THE GOODYEAR HOTLINE. HE ALSO HAPPENED TO AGREE THAT THE TIRES WOULD EVENTUALLY RIP OFF AND FLIP THE CAR IF I DID NOT CHANGE THEM. HENCE I CALLED THE GOODYEAR HOTLINE, WHEN THE REPRESENTATIVE PICKED UP, SHE TOLD ME THAT THE MAN FROM GOODYEAR WHO INSPECTED THE TIRES WAS NOT QUALIFIED TO GIVE AN INSPECTION. SO THEN, I DROVE TO ANOTHER SHOP NAMED !0JUST TIRES!1 THAT WAS LICENSED FROM GOODYEAR TO GIVE INSPECTIONS. AFTER INSPECTING THE TIRES, THE MANAGER AGREED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE TIRES AND THAT IF THE TIRES WERE NOT IMMEDIATELY REPLACED I WOULD BE ENDANGERING MY LIFE. HE TOO BELIEVED THAT MY TIRES HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS TO THOSE OF FIRESTONE.I HAVE ALSO HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE EXPEDITION. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR, THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR WAS STOLEN; AND UNDER THE WARRANTY, WE WERE ABLE TO REPLACE IT. HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE NEWLY INSTALLED MIRROR STARTED BECAME SOMEWHAT UNRELIABLE. IT ACCUMULATED SCRATCHES EASILY AND WAS VERY FRAGILE. THE VISUALS THE MIRROR GAVE WERE VERY DULL AND VAGUE. HENCE WHEN WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER REPLACEMENT, THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD US THAT THE MIRROR WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY; AND SO I WAS NOT GIVEN A REPLACEMENT. *AK (DOT NUMBER: PDCUD3ER33 TIRESIZE: P255/70R16)
WHEN VEHICLE IS PUT INTO REVERSE IT IS NOT ENGAGING. YOU MUST USE THE ACCELERATOR TO GO ANYWHERE AND THEN THE FRONT END FEELS AS IF IT IS STUCK ON SOMETHING AND REVERSES EXTREMELY HARD AND MAKES A VERY LOUD SCREECHING NOISE. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND CANNOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN AT THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THEM AFTER THE PROBLEM OCCURED THIS LAST TIME.*AK
