FORD FAILED STEERING ON 2000 EXPEDITION. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE HAD A TIE ROD FAILURE AT ABOUT 30 MPH. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT A RECALL BE SENT OUT FOR HIS VEHICLE. A REVIEW OF DATABASE RELATIVE TO TIE ROD FAILURES ON 2000 FORD EXPEDITION VEHICLESREVEALED INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO WARRANT OPENING A SAFETY DEFECT INVESTIGATION AT THIS TIME. *TC
SMELLED GASOLINE IN OUR GARAGE. DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC SHIELD AROUND THE GAS TANK HAD RUBBED THROUGH BOTH THE SHIELD SURROUNDING THE GAS LINE AND THE GAS LINE ITSELF CAUSING THE SUV TO HAVE A GAS LEAK. DEALER TO REPLACE GAS LINE AND SHIELD. I WILL MAKE SURE TO GET BOTH THE SHIELD AND GASLINE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE FRONT TIE ROD SEPARATED AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *AK THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE CONSUMER PROPERLY AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. 4 DAYS LATER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE FROM FORD WARNING HIM ABOUT POSSIBLE TIE ROD FAILURE, THE CONSUMER STATED THE VIN AND OTHER INFORMATION WAS WRONG WHICH MAY HAVE DELAYED RECEIVING THE MAIL. *JB
MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WAS PARKED IN MY MOM'S DRIVEWAY WHILE WE WENT TO THE BEACH. WE RETURNED 4 HOURS LATER AND THE HORN WAS BLARING AND SMOKE WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER, WHO SOLD US THE CAR. I REFUSED TO GET BACK IN THE CAR WITH MY KIDS, AFTER I SPENT $700 TO REPAIR THE BURNED OUT WIRING, AND ENDED UP TRADING IT IN FOR A BRAND NEW EXPEDITION. THE RECALL NOTICE CAME OUT IN JAN -05, AFTER MY INCIDENT. MY FRIEND'S F150 WENT ON FIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH THE HORN BLARING - WHICH CAUSED ME TO INVESTIGATE THE RECALL. SOME OTHER FIRES HAVE INVOLVED HORNS BLARING. I WANT MY $700 BACK. *JB
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE . THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
IN PROCESS OF MOVING PARKED VEHICLE AT OLD HOUSE FOR 1 OR 2 HOURS IN DRIVEWAY, AND WHILE TALKING WITH NEIGHBOR SAW SMOKE COMING FROM VEHICLE. ANOTHER NEIGHBOR PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A HOSE. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THE FIRE STARTED NEAR MASTER CYLINDER. WILL FAX INVOICE FOR REPAIR WORK. CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING FOR 6 MONTHS OR A YEAR. NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE OTHER THAN THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER MALFUNCTIONED. NO AFTER MARKET EQUIPMENT ON VEHICLE.*AK
THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A RATTLE AND LOOSE. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT IT MAY COME OFF. *JB
DT: CONSUMER STATES THAT HER 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WAS PARKED FOR NO MORE THAN A HALF AN HOUR AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THEY PUT FIRE OUT WITH WATER. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE THEY CHANGED A FUSE, BUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD THEM THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED. CONSUMER WAS REPORTING THIS BECAUSE OF THE RECENT REPORT OF FORD PROBLEMS.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT AFTER TAKING A TRIP VEHICLE VIBRATED AT HIGH SPEED. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES HAD CRACKS. THESE TIRES WERE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FIRESTONE RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES.*AK
PRIOR TO OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION BEING RECALLED FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS, WE EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTING GROUP; RADIO, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, ETC. AFTER A RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK AND THE BLOWER MOTOR WOULD REMAIN ON OR BE ON WITHOUT IGNITION ACTIVATION. THE BATTERY HAS RUN DOWN BECAUSE OF THIS! WE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEMS AGAIN AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED AN ELECTRICAL SPECIALIST. HE DIAGNOSED THE WINDSHIELD SEAL LEAK AS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE JUNCTION BOX-GEM MODULE MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE IT WAS PARKED. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE HAD A SHORT. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY OWNER.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. VEHICLE RAN VERY ROUGH. ALSO, HESITATED AS IF DIDN'T HAVE FUEL IN IT. THEN IT LOST POWER. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE. *AK
A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE DRIVER SIDE TIE ROD CAUSED LOST OF STEERING AND IMPACT INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE WAS BETWEEN 20 AND 25 MPH. A COMPLETE DISCONNECTION OF THE TIE ROD END, WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD, CAUSED COMPLETE LOST OF STEERING. AUTOMOBILE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY WHERE NEW TIE RODS WERE INSTALLED AND A SUBSEQUENT BODY SHOP WHERE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. PHOTOS OF THE FAILED COMPONENTS ARE AVAILABLE AS WELL AS PHOTOS OF THE SITE OF THE FAILURE. *JB
TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALER FOR ONE PROBLEM, AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH $4100 IN PROBLEMS INCLUDING A LEAKY HEAD GASKET (LEAKING ON RIGHT SIDE) AT 57,000 MILES. OUR MECHANIC TRIED "RAD SEAL" AS A TEMPORARY FIX FOR THE LEAK...STILL WAITING TO SEE IF IT WORKED. *AK
PARKED VEHICLE AT 11:00 PM, SON SLEPT OVER GARAGE. WHEN SON WOKE UP SAW ORANGE COLOR OUTSIDE WINDOW. SON WARNED FAMILY. CONSUMER LOOKED IN GARAGE AND SAW SMOKE. RAN OUT AND CALLED FIRE DEPARTMENT. STATE FIRE MARSHAL SAID FIRE IN EXPEDITION. INSURED BY AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE. AGENT DAVID POTTER 417-883-3307. PRIOR TO FIRE REAR WIPER QUIT WORKING. 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO FIRE CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING. RADIO HAD BEEN ACTING FUNNY. NO AFTER MARKET EQUIPMENT ADDED.*AK
TIE ROD BROKE WHILE DRIVING 35-40 MPH. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING A FIRE STARTED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 35,070 MILES ON IT. THE CAR CLUNKED AND HAD METAL ON METAL SOUND BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. CAR UNDRIVABLE AT THAT POINT. TOWED TO FORD DEALER AND DIAGNOSED WITH TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. COST TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION $2,600 - OUT OF WARRANTY BASED ON AGE OF CAR!! VERY UNHAPPY WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY!!*JB
THE FRONT SWAY BAR LINKAGE BOLTS RUSTED AND BROKE ON BOTH SIDES. I ONLY HAD 47K MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I NOTICED THE VEHICLE JERKED AFTER HITTING POT HOLES ALMOST BEING UNCONTROLLABLE IF I WAS NOT HOLDING ON THE STEERING WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS. *LA
VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS NO WARNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOO WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *NM
WHEN I TURNED ON IGNITION WIPERS STARTED TO OPERATE WITHOUT BEING TURNED ON. SMOKE BEGAN BLOWING FROM VENT AREA. I TURNED OFF IGNITION AND ALL ELECTRICAL. WIPERS AND WASHER FAILED TO OPERATE. WIPER MOTOR CONNECTOR CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT OUT WIPER MOTOR. REPAIRED AT "RON BORTNICK FORD" UPPER MARLBORO MD. 20772. *LA
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. AS A RESULT, THE AIR BAGS WERE INOPERATIVE, AND WOULDN'T DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED. *JB THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED BUT IS UNWILLING TO SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER ALSO SPOKE WITH THE DEALER ABOUT CORROSION ON THE DOORS. *NM
WHILE BEING PARKED VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS STILL UNDETERMINED.*AK
CRUISE CONTROL RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V017000, CONSUMER WENT OUT OF TOWN, AND UPON T ARRIVAL AT HOME, WAS NOTIFIED BY NEIGHBORS THAT THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE REAR OF THE HOUSE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. VEHICLE/THE SIDING ON THE HOUSE, AND OTHER PERSONAL PROPERTY WERE DAMAGED. CRUISE CONTROL NHTSA RECALL 05V017000. *AK
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45 TO 50 MPH, CONSUMER HEAR NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR. CONSUMER WAS PULLING OUT THE ROAD, WHEN SUDDENLY THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE AND ROLLED OVER A QUARTER OF MILE, ALL FIVE LUG NUTS SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *LA
WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOME STUCK, CAUSING VEHICLE TO TRAVEL AT HIGH SPEED. *AK
THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE IT WAS PARKED. THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED. *JB
I LOST MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION, THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR REPORT STATES THAT IT WAS A FAULTY IGNITION WIRE THAT CAUSED THE LOSS OF MY VEHICLE, AND PERSONAL AFFECTS AND AT THE TIME I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING TO MY NEW HOME AND THIS HAPPENED AT WORK, THE FIRE DESTROYED TO OTHER VEHICLES PARKED NEXT TO MY FORD EXPEDITION EVERYTHING WAS A TOTAL LOSS, MY INSURANCE COMPANY ADVISED I NEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY OWNERS INSURANCE, BUT I HAD ALREADY SOLD MY OLD HOME AND IN THE PROCESS TO CLOSE ON MY NEW HOME. *NM
I HAD A TIRE SEPARATION WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH. PLEASE SEE TIRE RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER BELOW. TIRE RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02T012000 I HAVE 5 OF THESE TIRE ON MY 2000 EXPEDITION. ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP, MY VIN WAS NOT A PART OF A RECALL. THE TIRES, HOWEVER WERE. DOT NUMBERS WERE VERIFIED WITH CONTINENTAL. THERE WERE 596610 UNITS AFFECTED, YET FORD ONLY IS SHOWING APPROXIMATELY 500 VEHICLES WITH ONLY 300 ACTUALY QUALIFYING. THIS SEEMS LIKE A GAME TO ME AS THES FIVE TIRE WERE ORIGINALLY ON MY VEHICLE. *LA
IN JUNE, MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT ON FIRE IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR WELL OVER AN HOUR. IT APPEARS AS IF THE FIRE WAS ELECTICAL. FIRE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO MY HOME AS WELL AS A VEHICLE PARKED INSIDE THE GARAGE. AS OF YET, MY INSURANCE HAS NOT SETTLED WITH ME DESPITE THE TRUCK BEING TOTALLED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALLS EITHER. A FIRE INVESTIGATION WAS DONE BY THE NORTH LAS VEGAS FIRE DEPARTMENT BUT CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED. AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATING OF MY OWN, I HAVE FOUND MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THIS MATTER. THANK YOU.*AK
MY HUSBAND HAPPENED TO BE WALKING UP TO MY CAR AND NOTICED THE SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. WHEN HE OPENED THE HOOD THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WAS ON FIRE. WE STILL HAVE IT DISCONNECTED BECAUSE WE'RE AFRAID IT WILL CATCH THE CAR ON FIRE.*AK
MY WIFE PARKED OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION AT WORK AROUND 8:30 A.M. TWO HOURS LATER IT WAS ON FIRE. AFTER MANY CONVERSATIONS WITH MARSHALL MIZE FORD THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE STARTED IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THEY SAID THAT BRAKE FLUID LEAKED ON MY MANIFOLD AND SPARKED A FLAME CAUSING MY CAR TO BURST INTO FLAMES. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS NOT FLAMMABLE, ESPECIALLY AFTER SITTING FOR TWO HOURS IT SHOULD NOT HAVE EVEN BEEN HOT ENOUGH. MY TRUCK WAS FIXED AND WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT YET. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE FIRE WAS QUICKLY PUT OUT CAUSING THERE TO BE ONLY $6500 IN DAMAGE. PARTS REPLACED CONSIST OF THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS, THE COMPONENTS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM UNDER THE HOOD, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. IF NEEDED WE CAN FAX A COMPLETE INVOICE OF ALL PARTS AND LABOR. *NM
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN IT FELT LIKE THE TRUCK WAS SKIPPING. CONSUMER THEN PULLED OF THE ROAD. UPON EXITING THE TRUCK CONSUMER NOTICED THAT 3 OF THE WHEELS WERE FACING FORWARD, AND THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS TURNED INWARDS. THE TRUCK WAS THEN TOWED TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE STEERING LINKAGE, AND INDICATED THAT A TIE ROD HAD FALLEN OFF, AND THE OTHERS WERE LOOSE, ALL 4 TIE RODS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO HAD TO REPLACED THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. *AK
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAME ON WHEN THERE WAS NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE FAN BLEW AND THE IGNITION KEY SOUND CAME ON BY ITSELF WITHOUT THE KEY. WHEN PLACING THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A GENTLEMAN WHOSE HOUSE BURNED DOWN BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME IT RAINED. *JB
1) CHILD SAFETY LOCKS CONSTANTLY ENGAGE (E.G. LOCK IS TURNED OFF AND THEN SWITCHES TO LOCK) DURING NORMAL DRIVING ON BOTH REAR PASSENGER DOORS OF VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THE LOCKS SAFETY CHILD DOOR LOCKS ARE DEFECTIVE SINCE BOTH LOCKS ARE AFFECTED AND SHOULD NOT MOVE WHEN SET TO EITHER LOCK OR UNLOCK. 2) PASSENGER SITTING IN THE REAR HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE TO LET THEM OUT AND THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS SINCE IT GREATLY AFFECTS THE ABILITY OF PASSENGERS TO NORMAL DEGRESS THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. CONVERSELY, IF A SMALL CHILD IS IN THE BACK SEAT, THE LOCKS SHOUD NOT UNLATCH TO AND ENABLE THE CHILDREN TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE VEHICAL IS MOVING. 3) TOOK CAR TO DEALER, DEALER STATES LOCKS ARE NOT IN WARRANTY AND WILL COST $400 PLUS TO REPLACE EACH LOCK WHIOCH IS UNACCEPTABLE. VEHICLE IS WAS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD WHEN PROBLEM STARTED TO OCCUR.
BODY RUST AND ROT, ALONG THE ROCKER PANELS, BOTTOMS OF ALL DOORS AND RADIATOR SUPPORT. THIS WAS POINTED OUT TO LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE PURCHASED, RESPONSE WAS IT WASN'T OUTER BODY RUST THRU, SO NO COVERAGE. THE RUST HAS PROGRESSED THAT ALL THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORS ,ROCKER PANELS AND RADIATOR SUPPORT HAVE RUSTED AWAY. I HAVE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM ON MANY OTHER EXPEDTIONS. IT SEEMS TO AFFECT THE 2000 MODEL YEAR ONLY. I HAVE MANY OTHER , OLDER AND HIGHER MILEAGE FORDS WITH A LITTLE OR NO RUST AT ALL. I DON'T THINK THE VEHICLE WILL PASS THE NEXT INSPECTION AND THIS HAS MADE THE VEHICLE WORTHLESS FOR TRADE OR SELLING. *KB
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO, AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DID NOT APPEAR PRIOR TO THE CRASH. CONSUMER WORE A SEAT BELT. NO INJURY REPORTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS ISSUED.*AK
I HAD JUST HAD MY 2000 EXPEDITION INSPECTED THE MONTH BEFORE. I WAS DRING UP AN ON RAMP TO AN INTERSTATE AND MY CAR SWERVED OUT OF CONTROL. I WENT OFF THE ROAD. SEVERAL CARS ALMOST HIT ME AND I THEM. IT TURNED OUT THAT MY TIE ROD ON MY FRONT LEFT TIRE HAD BROKEN. VERY DANGEROUS. VERY UPSETTING.*AK
FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER SITTING 5 HOURS. KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. CRUISE CONTROL HAD GONE OUT, AND A BRAKE LIGHT WAS COMING ON ONCE IN A WHILE. CRUISE CONTROL WAS OUT FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. INSURED BY ALLSTATE. THEY SENT AN INVESTIGATOR, AND HE SAID IT WAS A BRAKE SWITCH THAT WAS SOME HOW BECAME CONNECTED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL.*AK
WHILE PARKED THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL WIRING MALFUNCTION. *AK

SPARK PLUG FAILURE AT 67,000 MILES, WELL BELOW MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATION OF 100K MILES. ALSO, SPARK PLUG COIL FAILURE. *AK
