ROLLING UP DRIVER WINDOW-CLICKING NOISE/TICKING IN FRONT END DURING SLOW TURNS-SLOWING DOWN/ENGINE VIBRATION AND ROARING ON ACCELERATION/ACCELERATOR STICKING WHILE USING CRUISE CONTROL/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS(I.E-WINDOWS ROLLING UP AND DOWN W/OUT PROMPTING, DOOR LOCKS INOPERABLE, RUNNING BOARD LIGHTS FLASHING ON AND OFF OR NON-FUNCTIONING, ILLUMINATED TEMP. AND COMPASS FLASHING OR NON-FUNCTIONING, FAN IN A/C RUNNING FOR NO REASON W/VEHICLE OFF AND KEYS OUT OF IGNITION, INDICATOR LIGHTS IN DASH FLASHING ON AND OFF, WIPERS OPERATING W/OUT PROMPTING, REAR WINDOW WIPER NON-FUNCTIONING, STEREO ONLY WORKING IN PARK AND REVERSE OR NOT AT ALL, ELECTRICAL CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE DASH, LEFT BLINKER FASTER THAN THE RIGHT)/BLACK FOAM SUBSTANCE COMING FROM A/C VENTS/THUMPING NOISE RIGHT WIPER WHEN IN USE. THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO FORD DEALER AND THEY STATED IT WAS A BAD GEM MODULE AND TOLD US THAT IT WAS GETTING WET. THEY STATED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. THESE PROBLEMS ARE WORSE WHEN IT RAINS. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN IF IT IS HUMID. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA, I DON'T THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EVERYTIME WE PARK THE VEHICLE. BUT IF WE DON'T, WE HAVE ALL OF THIS GOING ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF AND THEN THE BATTERY GOES DEAD. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF THESE THINGS STARTED HAPPENING AT ONE TIME, IT WAS RAINING. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE TRYING TO GET THE WIPERS TO FUNCTION AND GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD UNTIL ALL OF THIS STOPPED. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED FROM A LOCAL DEALER BACK IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR. THE PROBLEMS BEGAN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. AS THE PROBLEMS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE, I LOOKED THIS UP ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE GEM MODULE, JUST AS THEY KNEW ABOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM AND THEY ARE DOING NOTHING TO FIX IT. AS I STATED ABOVE, THEIR ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM WHICH THEY KNEW EXISTED, IS TO DISCONNECT MY BATTERY EVERYTIME I PARK THE VEHICLE. *NM
I OWN 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. JUST FOUND OUT THE WINDSHIELD IS LEAKING, CAUSING WATER TO GET INTO FUSE BOX AND GEM MODULE UNDER DASH CAUSING MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE 4-WAY FLASHERS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING; THE BLOWER STAYED ON EVEN AFTER REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, ETC. HAD WINDSHIELD REPLACED TODAY AND IT ONLY TOOK 1 MINUTE TO BREAK THE SEAL. THE REPAIR GUY SAID IT SHOULD TAKE AT LEAST 20 MINUTES AND THAT IF WE WOULD HAVE HAD A WRECK THE WINDSHIELD WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT. I'VE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN 1997-2001 F150'S, EXPEDITIONS AND NAVIGATORS, BUT ESPECIALLY THE 2000 EXPEDITION. THE SEAL USED BY FORD AROUND THE WINDSHIELD DRY ROTS CAUSING THE LEAK. SERVICE MAN AT FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT SAYS NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. *AK
2000 EXPEDITION PARKED IN STORE PARKING LOT, KEY REMOVED. STORE EMPLOYEE EXTINGUISHED FIRE BY USING EXTINGUISHER UNDER WHEEL WELL. FIRE WAS CONFINED TO MASTER CYLINDER AND ADJOINING HARNESSES AND PLASTIC. CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TWO MONTHS PRIOR.WAITING FOR CALL BACK FROM DEALER TO SEE ABOUT REPAIR.*AK
MY VEHICLE WENT ON FIRE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPEDITIONS. RECENTLY MY CRUISE CONTROL STARTED ACTING UP. AFTER READING ABOUT AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION ABOUT 200 FORD VEHICLES, I BELIEVE MINE IS THE SAME SITUATION. THE TRUCK WAS ARKED FOR MORE THAN 12 HOURS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WAS ON FIRE. FORD DEFECT!!!!*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER'S REAR TIRE TREAD WAS SEPARATING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE CONSUMER COULD SEE SMOKE COMING FROM OUT OF THE HAZARD SWITCH. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
PARKED THE EXPEDITION IN A PARKING GARAGE, APPROX. 2.5 HOURS LATER WAS CALLED AND TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE HAD CAUGHT FIRE. A CONCERNED CITIZEN PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH AN EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND OPENED THE HOOD TO FIND THAT THE FIRE HAD STARTED ON THE LEFT SIDE NEAREST BRAKE CALIBER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RULED IT TO BE AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. AFTER MUCH THOUGHT AFTER THE FIRE, WE REMEMBERED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING. MARK WAS CONTACTED ON 12/13/04 BY BRUCE YORK TO TALK ABOUT WHERE THE FIRE HAD STARTED. THE OWNER, MARKPIATT, SAID THAT HE HAD MADE A MISTAKE AND THERE WAS FIRE WAS AT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER NEAR THE FUSE PANEL NOT THE CALIPER. MARK SAID HE WOULD SEND PICTURES.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A FIRE STARTED IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK SAME AS COMPLAINT #10105051
WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 12 HOURS A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK SAME AS ODI #10104367
VEHICLE WAS PARKED APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS BEFORE THE FIRE STARTED. CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE, WALKED OUT OF HOUSE, AND SAW BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WELL, AND FROM ALONG THE HOOD. CONSUMER POPPED THE HOOD, AND SAW FLAMES RIGHT AT THE MASTER CYLINDER. SHE GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. CONSUMER STATED THAT CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING ONE MONTH BEFORE THE FIRE, AND THAT THE REAR DOOR WIPER MOTOR ALSO STOPPED WORKING. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID KEAKED BEFORE THE FIRE.*AK
WHILE PARKED FOR TWO DAYS VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
VEHICLE IS 2000 FORD EXPEDITION APPROX. 60,000 MILES. TOOK A TRIP AROUND 150 MILES, MOST OF WHICH AT 70-72 MPH. STAYED THE WEEKEND, THEN SUNDAY ON THE WAY HOME AT ABOUT 35 MPH PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD BROKE, FRONT END OF THE TRUCK BOUNCED UP AND DOWN UNCONTROLLABLE WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, SLOWED DOWN QUICKLY AND PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. DROVE SLOWLY 5 MPH TO NEAREST SERVICE GARAGE, LEFT VEHICLE OVERNIGHT, MECHANIC REPLACED THE TIE ROD. I DO HAVE OLD PART.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WHEN THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD BOOM NOISE, AND THEN ANOTHER. THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. IT STARTED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHERE THE BLACK BOX WAS. THERE WAS NO WARNING IT JUST EXPLODED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD BEEN ACTING UP. AT TIMES WHEN THE CONSUMER SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 90 MILES IT WOULD TAKE OFF AND THEN SOME TIMES IT WOULD NOT WORK. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
I DROVE MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION TO WORK PARKED IT AND 1 1/2 HOURS LATER I WAS TOLD IT WAS ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT QUICKLY AND NO ONE WAS HURT. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE IS IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEAR THE DASH. IT WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
WHILE BEING PARKED VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAUSE OF THIS WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
I HAD PULLED UP IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE SPARE TIRE JUST DROPPED OUT ON THE DRIVEWAY. I WAS CONCERNED WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPEND IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY SPARE TIRE AND DROPPED OUT ON THE HIGHWAY, WHAT DAMAGE, INJURY OR EVEN DEATH THAT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED. I REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALERSHIP, AND THEY WAS NOT TO CONCERNED, THEY JUST TOLD ME WHAT IT WOULD COST TO REPLACE THE CABLE FOR THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER. I BELIEVE THIS IS REALLY A SAFETY FACTOR THAT SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY FORD.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED INSIDE THE GARAGE. FOUR HOURS LATER THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK CONSUMER STATES THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD OVER NIGHT CLAIM OF LOSS FORM BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED.*SB *NM

FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF DRIVERS SIDE TOWARD THE REAR OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEAR THE WINDSHIELD AFTER HAVING BEEN PARKED FOR 1.5 HOURS. TWO DAYS EARLIER, BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING. NO TROUBLE WITH CRUISE CONTROL, BUT DID NOT USE OFTEN. WILL E-MAIL BRUCE YORK PICTURES. *AK *TC
DRIVING THRU A PARKING LOT WHILE GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP MY SPARE TIRE FELL OUT FROM UNDER MY FORD 2000 EXPEDITION CABLE BROKE ON WENCH. I AM NOW TALKING WITH DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT.I AM WORRIED THAT SAME THING CAN HAPPEN WITH NEW WENCH POSSIBLE ON FREEWAY. *AK
MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED AT MY JOB. ENGINE WAS OFF AND NO ONE WAS IN THE VEHICLE. THE CAR IS TOTALED AND INSURANCE IN ONLY PAYING FOR THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH LEAVES ME WITH A BALANCE TO PAY OFF. *NM
DT: CONSUMER WENT ON VACATION TO RETURN HOME AND FIND THAT THEIR FORD EXPEDITION HAD BURNED, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND THE INSIDE WAS GUTTED. FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE FRONT ENGINE AREA. THERE WERE NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD REGULAR MULTI-POINT INSPECTIONS. LATER CONSUMER FINDS THAT FORD HAS HAD PROBLEMS (PER CHANNEL 7 LOCAL NEWS) WITH CRUISE CONTROL ISSUES. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, FORD WAS NOTIFIED, BUT WOULDN'T TALK TO CONSUMER. *TT THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSOR. A WORN IDLER ARM CAUSED NOISE AND VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *NM
CONSUME RPARKED THE VEHICLE AN D 10 MINUTES LATER RETURNED TO VEHICLE AND FOUND IT SMOKING. SMOKE COMING FROM PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ON THE WAY IN TO WORK THE RADIO WAS CUTTING IN AND OUT.*AK
THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRING HAD A SHORT WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE WHILE IT WAS PARKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BY THE OWNER. *JB *TC
VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 4 OR 5 HOURS, LOOKED OUT WINDOW, AND SAW FLAMES COMING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WELL. CALLED 911, AND GOT OUT OF HOUSE. FIRE SPREAD TO HOUSE. INSURED BY STATE FARM, AGENT JOE BROWN IN ORLANDO, FL. PRIOR TO THE FIRE NO PROBLEMS WITH TRUCK. CRUISE CONTROL WORKED IN MAY. DID NOT USE IT OFTEN. NO AFTER MARKET EQUIPMENT. WILL E-MAIL VIN & PICTURES TO BRUCE YORK. *AK
OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION BURNED TO THE GROUND SITTING IN A PARKING LOT. AFTER LOOKING AT WWW.AUTOMOTIVEFORUMS.COM, WE SEE MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. THEY MOSTLY REPORTED REAR WIPER MOTOR PROBLEMS/REPLACEMENTS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILURES. BOTH IN OUR CASE. WE WERE NOT HURT. I SEE SOME OF THESE OTHER PEOPLE LOST THEIR HOMES IN A FIRE STARTED BY THEIR EXPEDITION. DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS? DOES FORD KNOW?*AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER BEING PARKED 5 TO 10 MINUTES. FIRE CENTERED ON DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE FIREWALL. THE CRUISE CONTROL AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER FAILED WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF THE FIRE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND HIT A PARKED CAR. THE CONSUMER THEN STEERED TO THE LEFT BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AND HIT MORE PARKED CARS. THE RIGHT WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED ONTO ITS LEFT SIDE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WENT OUT. *AK *NM
A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2004. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN OFF FOR OVER 1 HOUR WITH THE KEYS OUT AND IN THE PARK POSITION. THE FIRE STARTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND BURNED VERY QUICKLY LEAVING NOTHING LEFT OF THE VEHICLE. FIRE MARSHALL STATED THAT THE CAUSE WAS UNKOWN BUT THE INSURANCE COMANY IS STILL INVESTIGATING. THEY HAVE CLAIMED THE VEHICLE AS A TOTAL LOSS AND ARE REPLACING IT FOR ME. JUST LAST NIGHT, MY NEIGHBOR'S EXPEDITION ALSO CAUGHT FIRE IN A SIMILAR MANNER AND FELT IT NECESSARY THAT I REPORT MY INCIDENT. *AK
I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS THE PLACE TO VOICE THIS COMPLAINT, BUT SINCE I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING FORD VIA EMAIL WITH NO RESPONSE, I DID NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHERE ELSE TO TURN. WE HAVE A 2000 EXPEDITION. THE TIMING CHAINS WENT OUT AND WE REPLACED THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING JUST FINE BEFORE WE REPLACED THEM--JUST NOISY. SO WE HAD THEM REPLACED. WE RECEIVED THE TRUCK BACK ON THE 12TH OF OCTOBER AND DROVE IT APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES (THAT'S BEING GENEROUS). IT WAS RUNNING FINE THEN SOUNDED LIKE YOU HIT A ROCK. THE ENGINE BLEW. LUCKY FOR US THAT IT WAS ON A SIDE ROAD AND NOT ON 465 WHICH WE DRIVE EVERY DAY. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED AT 55+ MILES PER HOUR IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC? I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE DESIGN BECAUSE I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT IT HAPPENS ALOT IN THESE ENGINES. I FEEL THAT REPLACING THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD NOT CONSTITUTE REPLACING THE ENGINE. SINCE IT HAS HAPPENED IN FORD DEALERSHIPS AS WELL, I BELIEVE THAT FORD IS AWARE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND HAS CHOSEN TO IGNORE IT. A FOUR YEAR OLD ENGINE SHOULD NOT GIVE OUT BECAUSE THE TIMING CHAINS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AT FORD AND WITH A DEALERSHIP IN OUR AREA--SPEAKING TO THEM IS HOW I FOUND OUT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED IN DEALERSHIPS ALSO. PLEASE ADVISE ME ON WHERE TO GO FROM HERE IF I HAVE CONTACTED THE WRONG PLACE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE IN INDIANA ALSO.
6-12 MONTHS AGO, 2000 FORD EXPEDITION STARTED HAVING ERRATIC ELECTRICAL BEHAVIOR. WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT WORKING DURING RAINSTORM WHILE AWAY ON VACATION. WAS VERY HAZARDOUS TO HAVE HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY DURING A DOWNPOUR! RADIO WOULD GO ON AND OFF WHILE SHIFTING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. TOOK TO DEALER (STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT THIS TIME), THEY "TIGHTENED UP SOME THINGS", PROBLEM WENT AWAY, UNTIL NEXT RAIN STORM! DUE TO NEEDING THE VEHICLE, I COULD NOT GET IT BACK TO DEALER BEFORE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OK THOUGH, BECAUSE I HAD PURCHASED A "PREMIUM" EXTENDED WARRANTY. TOOK TO DEALER A SECOND TIME, NOW TRUCK TRIES TO START ITSELF WITH NO KEY IN IGNITION, WIPERS AGAIN FAIL WHILE DRIVING DURING RAINSTORM, HEATER BLOWER MOTOR REMAINS RUNNING AFTER EXITING VEHICLE. THIS DRAINS THE BATTERY IF LEFT OVERNIGHT, AND RESULTS IN AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE. TRUCK FOUR WHEEL DRIVE INDICATORS FLASH ON AND OFF AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING. NOT A GOOD FEELING WHEN TRAVELING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER INSPECTION, DEALER INFORMS ME THAT WATER HAS INTRUDED INTO THE DASH COMPONENTS DUE TO A LEAKING WINDSHIELD. THEY STATE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WONT COVER IT BECAUSE THEY DONT COVER "WATER INTRUSIONS". GEM MODULE, FUSEBOX NEED REPLACED, WINDSHIELD RESEALED TO FIX PROBLEM. QUOTE OF ABOUT $1000.00 I DECLINED REPAIRS AT THE TIME. WENT HOME AND RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM. SEEMS MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD AND AFTER MANY PHONE CALLS, THEY DECLINED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD. HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT THEIR PRODUCTS BECAUSE I BELIEVED THEY STOOD BEHIND THEIR RELIABILITY AND WORKMANSHIP. HERE IS A FACTORY INSTALLED WINDSHIELD THAT STARTED LEAKING BEFORE THEIR 3/36 WARRANTY EXPIRED, THEIR DEALER "BAND-AIDED" THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF FIXING THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW I HAVE AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY THAT FRANKLY, SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY RISK TO PUT MY FAMILY OF SIX IN.
(1) DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE, THE INTERIOR POWER FAILED. I HAD NO WINDSHIELD WIPERS, NO RADIO, NO AC, AND NO CONTROL OVER POWER WINDOWS. (2) IT HAPPENED TO BE RAINING AND I HAD TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER INTO A PARKING LOT SINCE THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. I CHECKED THE FUSES AND ALL WERE IN WORKING ORDER. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN, I REGAINED ELECTRICAL POWER. (3) AUTO MECHANIC LOOKED AT VEHICLE AND ONLY DETERMINED THAT BATTERY COULD BE REPLACED. (4) PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND CONTINUES TO OCCUR AT DIFFERENT TIMES. I TURN CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON TO REGAIN ELECTRICAL POWER
2000 FORD EXPEDITION EB 5.4LT 4X4 , SPEED CONTROL DEFECT, WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE GETS TOO HOT , A LOT OF ELECTRICAL DEFECTS LIKE , SIGNAL LIGHTS , RADIO LIGHTS , MIRRORS , MILES COUNTER, WON'T WORK , I CHECK EVERY FUSE AND RELAYS ALL OK, A/C PROBLEMS ETC . *TR
I WAS TAKING MY CHILD TO SCHOOL FOR A FIELD TRIP. WE WERE IN THE PARKING LOT FOR APPROX. 20 MIN WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THEN OUT OF NOWHERE A BIG GUSH OF GRAY/BLACK SMOKE APPEARED. I IMMEDIATELY GOT MYSELF AND CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO CALL 911. AT THIS TIME THE 2 BUS DRIVERS CAME AND ASK ME TO POP MY HOOD ASSUMING IT WAS MY CAR RUNNING HOT WHEN THEY LIFTED THE HOOD THERE WAS FLAMES. THEY GOT A FIRE EXT. AND PUT IT OUT. I PROCEEDED TO FIND A WAY TO GET HOME AND GET MY OTHER CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. I THEN CALLED MY MECHANIC AND ASKED HIM TO MEET ME AT MY TRUCK. HE INSPECTED IT AND DETERMINED THE SW ASY AND BRAKE FLUID LINES HAD BURNED AND MELTED . HE TALKED TO A COUPLE OF HIS FRIENDS WHOM OWN JUNKYARDS AND THEY TOLD HIM IN THE LAST YEAR THEY HAVE HAD 10 OR SO EXPEDITIONS COME IN BURNED FROM THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD AND HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAN. DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. ANY HELP OR COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE TURNED OUT WORSE THAN WHAT IT DID IF I DIDN'T HAVE BUS DRIVERS THERE TO HELP. *JB
THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE AT 9:00AM AT THE END OF DAY AROUND 6:00PM THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO CAR AND FOUND IT HAD BURNED UP. THE FIRES STARTED AT 3:00PM AND HAD BEEN PUT OUT. PRIOR TO THE FIRE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING. INSURED BY STATE FARM INVESTIGATED BY STRINGER AND ASSOC. WHO FOUND THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AT THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. OWNER HAS REPORT. *JB
UPON LOOKING UNDER MY TRUCK I NOTICES THE ANTI SWAY BAR WAS NOT CONNECTED ON EITHER END OF THE BAR TO ANYTHING. I HAVE THE TRUCK AT MILLER FORD WHERE THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY SEE SEVERAL OF THESE WEEKLY. I ASKED HOW COULD IT BE? THE REPLY WAS THEY SIMPLY BREAK OFF. I ASKED WOULDN'T THEY BE ANY REMNANTS OF THE CONNECTION LEFT? THE REPLY WAS "NO" THEY SIMPLY FALL OFF ONTO THE ROAD. COULD THIS BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR NOT ONLY A ROLLOVER BUT A PROJECTILE BEING LAUNCHED ONTO THE HYWAY? SEEING AS THEY SEE "AT LEAST SIX CASES A WEEK.*AK
FIRE - 2000 FORD EXPEDITION CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS BEFORE IT WENT UP IN FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.
WE OWNED A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION, WHICH WE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH. THE END OF SEPTEMBER (I CAN'T REMEMBER THE DATE RIGHT OFF HAND) WE ARRIVED HOME FROM THE PLAYGROUND AND 10 MINUTES LATER OUR TRUCK SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE. MAJORITY OF THE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID IT LOOKED TO BE ELECTRICAL. A NEIGHBOR WHO LIVES DOWN THE STREET INFORMED US THAT THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL EXPEDITIONS THAT RECENTLY CAUGHT FIRE. WE THEN WENT TO AUTOMOTIVEFORUMS.COM AND WAS SURPRISED TO FIND MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS THAT THIS ALSO HAPPENED TOO. I SENT AN EMAIL TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY JUST TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THERE WERE MANY MORE PEOPLE THAT HAD THIS HAPPEN TO, AND TO THIS DAY NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY INFORMED US THAT MOST CLAIMS LIKE THIS USUALLY NEVER GET REPORTED TO FORD. WE HAD AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER FROM HOUSTON CALL US TO GET MORE INFORMATION. MAYBE YOU COULD WARN OTHERS SO THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME THING THAT WE HAVE. I CAN ALSO OBTAIN AN REPORT FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IF THAT WOULD BE OF ASSISTANCE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE TO UNCONTROLLABLY. *BF AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE OUTER TIE ROD END ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO LOSE ALL CONTROL OF THE STEERING. *JB

WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE IT BURNED. THE CONSUMER ASSUMED THE WATER FROM THE VEHICLE PUT THE FIRE OUT, BECAUSE UPON ARRIVING THE FIRE WAS OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. NO DAMAGE TO THE INJURY.
MY CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. ROUND 5:00 AM ON YES 9/ 11/ 04 I WAS AWAKENED BY NEIGHBORS TO LET ME KNOW THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE SOMEONE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO PUT IT OUT. *AK IT COMPLETELY BURNED UP EVERYTHING IT WAS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION XLT. I CONTACTED FORD AND FILED A COMPLAINT BUT THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NO WIRING PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO
VEHICLE WAS RUNNING FINE. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT 8:00 AM. PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY ALL DAY. 5:30 IN THE AFTERNOON, RECEIVED A KNOCK ON THE DOOR WITH SOMEONE INFORMING US THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND TOTALLY DESTROYED, ALMOST CATCHING THE HOUSE ON FIRE. FIRE DEPT STATED IT WAS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL.*AK
UPON PARKING THE VEHICLE, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY START ITSELF ON ITS OWN WITH NO KEY. ALSO, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE INOPERABLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. PLEASE PROVIDE CORRECT VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY, CAUSING THE INTERIOR LIGHTS, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, AND WINDOWS NOT TO FUNCTION. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY CONSUMER.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLEW OUT, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
CONSUMER WAS AWAKENED AFTER SMELLING SMOKE. HE WENT TO THE GARAGE AND THE DOOR WAS TOO HOT TO TOUCH. VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. T A RECALL WAS RECEIVED ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. HOWEVER THE FIRE SEEMS STARTED UNDER THE HOOD.*AK
AFTER MY TRUCK SAT IN A DOWNPOUR, I GOT INTO IT TO RUN AN ERRAND. THE RADIO COMPLETLY SHUT OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. WHEN PUT INTO PARK IT CAME RIGHT BACK ON. THE NEXT RAIN WE HAD, A FEW WEEKS LATER, I WAS DRIVING AND DIFFERENT INSTUMENT LIGHTS BEGAN TO COME ON. 4X4, WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID, ETC. LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN 4X4 AT THIS TIME AND THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID WAS 3/4 OF THE WAY FULL. A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN AGAIN MY WIPERS COMPLETLY QUIT WORKING. EVERY 10 SECONDS OR SO THEY WOULD KICK ON AGAIN FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND THEN STOP AGAIN. THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTLY TERRIFYING SITUATION. I WAS DRIVING IN THE POURING DOWN RAIN ON AN INCREDIBLY BUSY STREET AND MY WIPERS QUIT. AFTER THE FIRST COUPLE OF INCIDENTS MY HUSBAND AND I NARROWED IT DOWN TO HAVING SOMETHING TO DO WITH RAIN WATER. I ASKED A FORD TECH ABOUT THIS OVER THE PHONE AND WAS TREATED LIKE I HAD ABSOLUTLY NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. I FINALLY TOOK IT INTO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IN FACT THE SEAL AROUND THE WINDSHIELD WAS LEAKING, ALLOWING WATER IN TO SHORT OUT THE ELECTRONICS. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH HAVING TO PAY FOR THESE REPAIRS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NOT VERY OLD AN IN GREAT CONDITION.
